A drawing of what I think a gold aurelian dragon from The Aurelian Cycle Trilogy would look like! Lots of spikes along back and head and chest and on the end of their tails. They have a traditional wyvern dragon build, with the arms being wings instead of 4 legs and wings from their shoulder blades. I really wish more people knew about The Aurelian Cycle, it is such a good book series with really cool fantasy elements and realism along with that. I recently (by that I mean like 2 weeks ago) read Flamefall for the first time and the gayness in it made me so happy. Books like that usually don't have gay or bi characters and I love that they have that inclusiveness and representation. The characters and their awkward interactions along with the action makes it a thrilling book series even if it's slow paced a lot of the time. I do suggest to any teenage readers as it does have some more adult content in it. I hope you all like my art and try reading Fireborne (the first book) sometime! Have an amazing day and never stop being you cause I love you no matter what!

mid-year book freak out tag
years go by... i still read books...
1. Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2023? moby dick! i totally did not expect to like this dusty tome so much but it was just too perfect a mix of tropy revenge tale, sea adventure mockumentary, and making stuff up and putting it into categories that caused pleasant vibrations in my neurodivergent brain. i have watched so many whale documentaries after reading this, you guys have no idea🐳
2. Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2023? flamefall is the second book in the aurelian cycle and it’s the best sequel i’ve read so far this year. the addition of a slow burn mm master/servant story line improved things considerably, not to mention that it was my favorite character’s time to shine. this series is sooo good, please read it guys you won’t regret it i swear🙏
(ngl i’m a bit annoyed that fourth wing, this fireborne sjm-ified, is doing numbers out there and meanwhile there’s no fandom for the aurelian cycle to speak of😒)
also i simply have to mention defekt, book two of litenverse. i found the first book quite boring despite it’s shortness but the sequel has a sad lil guy🥺. highly recommend for fans of black mirror, severance or the murderbot diaries. you don’t reeeally need to read book one btw, i think you can just read the description and then jump straight to the good stuff
3. New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want To? i want to read witch king but i keep putting it off cause everything i hear about it sounds suspiciously like *american author does mdzs* and idk how i feel about that😬
4. Most Anticipated Release For Second Half of 2023? i’m looking forward to system collapse the most bc it’s gonna be set chronologically after network effect and it’s longer than the other murderbot novellas too. very excited to see murderbot and art bicker again hehe
5. Biggest Disappointment? ig it’s the warrior’s apprentice😬 many people recced the vorkosigan saga to me as “the lymond chronicles in space” but based just on this first(-ish) book i have to say miles is uhhh,, not lymond😐 lymond’s key traits are that he’s queer and a cunt and baby miles is simply not that (yet). of all the other books that people mentioned on my overcompetent scheming bastard post this was the last one i hadn’t read so i was a bit disappointed that it didn’t pull me in like the lymond chronicles. however, of all the books mentioned there it’s also the only series i can see myself continuing any time soon so. it wasn’t all too bad ig🤷‍♀️
i was also somewhat disappointed by assassin’s apprentice but i will make myself push through the realm of the elderlings just bc i’m so intrigued by the fool👀
6. Biggest Surprise? apart from the life changing experience that was moby dick i gotta admit i didn’t expect to like the goblin emperor, what with it being one of those cozy hopepunk fantasies where people are nice and decent to each other🙄 but it really did grow on me by the end, it indeed made me feel cozy and soothed. now i wanna try katherine addison’s older darker stuff that was apparently so controversial she had to change her pen name or smth👀🤭
7. Favorite New Author? so i read another book by christopher rice and can confirm that he’s now one of my favorite authors. the man’s early 2000s gay thrillers are very melodramatic and refreshingly juicy - you can really tell they were published in ye olden pre-twitter times
8. Newest Favorite Character? cyrano savinien hercule de bergerac. after just reading that first act where he monologues about his nose for three pages straight and then spends all the money he has to hijack a theater and cause a scene by duelling a guy on stage while insulting him in ballad form i thought wow but this is one of my sexy fucked up guys who like to swish their swords and run their mouths! please enter the mind rotation chamber, monsieur🙌
9. Newest Fictional Crush? power sur eater🐉 you guys are sleeping on the aurelian cycle and on the Glory and Tragedy of My Boy who has done nothing wrong ever in his life and i love him😭 seriously, if you’d like to watch a character like draco malfoy go through jaime lannister’s arc you gotta read this series
also csevet aisava? the guy who put sexy in bureaucracy?? it’s a crime that he and maia didn’t kiss tbh
💕Best Ship💕 the relationship of griff and delo in the aurelian cycle was SO dramatic and full of rawest scenes! kinda reminded me of captive prince at times, bc of the whole master/servant element. and the ending? “i will grow old in love, let them sing of others”?? i am Emotion🥺
10. Book That Made You Cry? furysong made me cry my eyes out like every ending to a ya series should. have i mentioned you should read the aurelian cycle btw? but also both moby dick and cyrano de bergerac made me laugh AND cry as only really good books do. there’s a part in moby dick about seeing whales in mountains and stars that made me remember i am a human being and was a small and happy human being once - like that scene in ratatouille when anton ego tastes ratatouille and the nostalgic memories hit him and he becomes not evil anymore. that was nice but i cried like a little bitch😭
11. Book That Made You Happy? re-reading twittering birds never fly without skipping all the yakuza plot scenes made me realize how hilarious this manga actually is! yashiro can obviously crack a joke but this time i discovered the comic relief goldmine that is nanahara
Tumblr media
skjdvnksjdvk like?!
12. Favorite Book Adaptation You Saw This Year? i have a LOT of criticisms about martin crimp’s “free adaptation” of cyrano de bergerac but ngl it was fun to watch the play come to life on stage (even tho there were no swords, a crime😒) and even more fun to watch christian kiss cyrano on the mouth like god intended
13. Favorite Review You’ve Written This Year? so this year i actually started reviewing stuff on goodreads for the first time and it’s quite fun and really useful for refreshing your memory on what you thought of a book. i try to go for short and witty over in depth and analytical so i suppose the best examples of the reviews i have written so far would be the ones of moby dick and the goblin emperor
14. Most Beautiful Cover? the og red cover of fireborne slaps! the revolutionary red? the minimalist black dragon? the main characters’ profiles formed by its wings?? talented brilliant show stopping. idk who made the decision to redesign the covers after the first book but that decision was utterly stupid🤨
15. What Books Do You Need To Read By The End of The Year? i need to finish some series (the diviners, the dreamhealers, the broken earth), then like i said i want to read witch king and also i’m doing the classics challenge again so i have to at least finish reading roxelana and re-read the picture of dorian gray (the uncensored edition👀). i have looked up my old mid year tags and was pleased to discover that i since have managed to read all the books mentioned there EXCEPT for you love me which has been a staple in my reading plans since 2021 so i’m gonna put it on this list again to honor the tradition lmao
overall i have to say my reading year is going well but i still miss the exhilaration of discovering new books worth obsessing over like it kept happening in 2019-2021 with the secret history, captive prince, all for the game, mdzs and lymond. last year i used to think i wasn’t doing a good job of finding books like this but now i’m starting to suspect that i have actually read ALL the good books and there aren’t any left :( but that’s absurd right?? or isn’t it?! anyways tell me what you’ve been reading so that i can maybe get intrigued by something and prove myself wrong on this🙏📚

Updates
If you want to know about updates to a specific project I leave my anticipated upload schedule in fic notes(usually on ch 1).
For the most recent updates follow me on Twitter, that is where I post about when new chapters go up, and will say if chapters are delayed etc.
I am not opposed to you politely asking about updates in my comments sections, so long as you keep it respectful(or funny) and don't overdo it. I totally understand the worry over fics updating, and I take it as a compliment that you're that worried about my silly little story :]
Boundaries
Minors - If you're a minor do not message me, and do not interact with any NSFW content I create. I am an adult, and I do write some stuff rated T, but a vast majority of my work is rated M or E and intended for an adult audience only.
Critique - Critiques of my work are fine, though I'd prefer to not see it(don't tag me etc). Tip - Compliment sandwiches are your friend. Anything that is overly negative/harassment in comments will be deleted. Keep things civil and within reason and we'll be fine. I have thick skin, but I do this for fun and don't have time for this type of thing. If there is a serious error in a fic feel free to dm me about it.
Inspired works - if for some reason one of my works inspires you to create your own thing(art, fic, headcanon, etc), awesome! Please tag me and stuff, I wanna see it. I don't really care about credit or anything(we're all here to have fun). But if you make something based off something I create I seriously will probably cry(in a good way). Please tag me in anything you create <3
Sharing - Feel free to share my works on Twitter or with your friends, fic clubs etc. That's fine, and please let me know what you think, I love interacting. However do not repost my works to any other platforms(like Wattpad). I only post on AO3 and would like to keep it that way.
Interacting - I seriously just love being in fandom communities. It's why I love comments so much. I just wanna chat about blorbos, ships, writing, fandom culture, and everything in between. Go nuts, comment away, tag me on Twitter, send asks on Tumblr, I promise you aren't bothering me.
More About Me as a Writer
Here are some posts to get a better sense of where I am as a writer, and what my tastes are with regards to storytelling. Just so you can get a taste of my specific brand of crazy ;)
My favorite fanfiction trope post
Weirdest places I've written fanfiction post
Beta and Collabs
Beta requests - If you are looking for a beta reader(in my fandoms) then reach out, I might very well be interested(if it's for the Aurelian Cycle the answer is a preemptive YES). Just let me know the project you're working on and the type of feedback you're looking for and I'll get back to you.
I have a pretty quick turnaround time, but I am an adult with a full time job, so it depends on how busy I am.
Writing Collabs - if you are a fellow fic writer and want to collab and write something together, yeah I'd like to talk. I've never done it before, but it sounds fun :) I am picky about ships though. Other Works These are previous fandom works that I am no longer active in. I am always happy to talk about them so don't be afraid to send asks or comment <3
DNF/MCYT fics: The Hounds of Love(11/11) Unsought is Better(9/9), Suffer Love(UIB sequel)(9/9) February 15th(5/5) I'd Lie(24/24) Hecate's Little Demon(5/7) One Fated Thread(3/3) Haunted Deep(3/3)

Once upon a time, there was a small temple of Roman times ...Sant'Urbano alla Caffarella
Tumblr media
Once upon a time, there was a small temple of Roman times... The original construction on the site was a pagan temple or perhaps a tomb, from around 160 AD. Urban exploration to rediscover built and abandoned places, but that shouldn't be the case.
The church of Sant'Urbano alla Caffarella is found on the edge of the Caffarella Park in the southeast of Rome.
It was originally a Roman temple. In the 10th Century, the structure was modified and consecrated as a church after restoration works commissioned by Cardinal Francesco Barberini on May 24, 1636.
Tumblr media

Built in a dominant position over the valley of the Almone river, the current Caffarella valley in the Ardeatino district, this church is one of the lesser-known monuments of Rome outside the Walls. Although it is of great value for at least two reasons, it is a real ancient temple (dated to Emperor Marcus Aurelius). The second is that it preserves a pictorial cycle, a rare testimony of Roman art of the early eleventh century.
Its current appearance is due to the last radical restoration carried out in the seventeenth century under the pontificate of Urban VIII.
Tumblr media

After a long period of abandonment, at the behest of the Barberini family, it was consecrated again on May 25, 1894.
The Church today is inside a private property. And unfortunately, it is no longer open to the public.

Note. The Caffarella valley reflects the history of Rome, the city and culture, the people who populated it, and the area in which they settled down—located close to the Aurelian Walls and between two ancient roads, the Via Latina and the Via Appia. The valley was the scene of myths and legends, perhaps suggested by the gentle hills that make it a natural border and the Almone, a small tributary of the Tiber, considered a sacred river by the Romans since the beginning of Rome's settlement.

Rome Outdoor Activities: 10Best Outdoors Reviews

Rome Outdoor Activities: 10Best Outdoors Reviews
Tumblr media
Rome has something for everyone. From art afficionados to history buffs, foodies and even the outdoorsy type. With so much to do around here, it can be really hard to prioritize what you choose to form your roman holiday memories. For many, the pandemic has reignited a love of the outdoors and options abound here so when it’s time to get out of those galleries, museums, stores, restaurants and perhaps even your hotel, add one of these outdoor activities to your list.
Villa Borghese is one of the city’s most popular parks and is often dubbed Rome’s Central Park. Great for a stroll or even a picnic, row boats can even be hired for a leisurely day on the lake.
For the foodies at heart, why not head to the historic Campo de Fiori market which is open daily until 2pm or take a food tour with Casa Mia. They take you off the beaten track to explore Rome’s food traditions in the working class neighborhood of Testaccio and the picturesque Trastevere.
Trastevere itself is an attraction in itself and you could actually spend a whole day here. Put your map away and get lost in the narrow cobblestone streets that are so pretty you’ll feel like you’re on a movie set.
To escape the big smoke and get out of town for the day, the ancient Roman ruins and archeological site of Ostia Antica makes for a great day trip.
So if you love the outdoors, the only problem you’ll have in Rome, is trying to fit it all in!
Tumblr media
In Rome, nothing is more romantic than the ‘passeggiata’ – a leisurely stroll. And Trastevere is just the neighborhood for it. This quarter prides itself on its authenticity and devotion to Roman culture. Narrow streets lead to quaint homes that display gardens on roofs and spacious piazzas. The original inhabitants of this area across the Tiber have their own version of the Roman dialect and their own defining cuisine. This is the place to experience true Roman dining. Though the ambience here during the day is fairly quiet, when the sun goes down the atmosphere becomes beyond lively. TRAM: 8, BUS: H.
Recommended for Outdoor Activities because: Trastevere is so pretty, it could be mistaken for a movie-set and is beautiful to stroll by day or night.
Maria’s expert tip: End your passeggiata at one of Rome’s best spots for authentic gelato, Fatamorgana (Piazza San Cosimato).

Built in the third century as part of Rome’s defense system, this massive fortification wall is a must see. The wall was commissioned by the Emperor Aurelian after the city’s previous structure was in ruins. The wall has undergone significant restoration, and the best-preserved gate is that to the Via Appia, or Appian Way, known as Porta San Sebastiano. If you visit the Museum of the Roman Walls (at 18 Via Porta San Sebastiano, Tue-Sun 9am-2pm) located in the gate you can usually gain access to the wall and get a matchless view of the surrounding area, little of which has changed from when the Apostle Peter traveled through Rome on foot. The Appian Way is the Roman Republic’s oldest highway, with sections still in use today. BUS: 118 from Circo Massimo metro station or the hop-on hop-off Archeobus from in front of Stazione Termini (see www.trambus.com)
Recommended for Outdoor Activities because: The Via Appia Antica makes for a lovely day out, particularly on Sundays when the area is closed to traffic.
Maria’s expert tip: Many tour agencies in Rome offer cycling tours so that you can ride along the Appian Way.

Walking up from the Roman Forum from Via dei Fori Imperiali, you reach the Palatine Hill. The ruins here are left from Domus Flavia and Domus Augustana, and were built around the first century. It is believed that it was on this very hill that Rome was born and where Romulus and his brother Remus, are believed to have been born. Emperors August, Tiber, Domitian also had residence here. From atop the hill, you have an incredible view of the city and you can look out across the Circus Maximus and the Alban Hills. Access ends about one hour before sunset. BUS: 85, 87, 175. METRO: Colosseo. TRAM: 3
Recommended for Outdoor Activities because: Said to be the site of the birth of Rome, Palatine Hill is a must on your Rome visit.
Maria’s expert tip: A visit to the Palatine Hill is included in your ticket to the Roman Forum and Colosseum and is valid for two days.

Rome’s number #1 rated food tour and only one of its kind, runs daily except for Sundays in two real Roman neighborhoods (Testaccio and Trastevere). On this four hour journey through the streets of Rome, you will get to enjoy about 10 authentic tastings (from tiramisu to buffalo mozzarella to pizza) at gourmet food stores, bars, a restaurant & fresh food market. You will get to know the Rome through its people, culture and cuisine in a truly unique way and the best part of the tour (aside from the unforgettable food!) is that it takes you to the parts of the eternal city that you wouldn’t have ordinarily stumbled upon.
Recommended for Outdoor Activities because: Eating Italy Food Tours are one of the highest rating food tours in Rome and provide unique and off the beaten track food experiences.
Maria’s expert tip: Get in early because group sizes are small and tours book out fast. And sign up to their newsletter through their website for discounts and giveaways.

Dubbed the central park of Rome, Villa Borghese is a favorite for tourists and the locals. The resurrection of the park was commissioned during the 17th century and used by the Borghese and Bonaparte families. Though, it’s not the largest park in Rome it is the most popular thanks to its central location and its beautiful scenery. Villa Borghese is also famous for its historical buildings and world-class museums such as the Galleria Borghese, a children’s cinema, and a place where you can rent bikes. There are many places to sit and take some time out or have a picnic, but along the banks of little late are some of the prettiest. BUS 495, 490, 88. METRO: Flaminio.
Recommended for Outdoor Activities because: Dubbed the Central Park of Rome, it’s not the largest in the city but certainly one of the prettiest.
Maria’s expert tip: Once you reach Villa Borghese, head to the Pincio gardens for a breathtaking view of the city skyline and Piazza del Popolo from the terrace.

After the Colosseum, the impressive Roman Forum is your next best introduction to Ancient Rome. From the entrance on Via Dei Fori Imperiali, one can take in the breathtaking views of the ancient ruins and relics left behind from the stomping grounds of Rome’s former emperors. The site started off as a simple valley between the Capitoline and Palatine Hills. It later became the heart of the city’s most important municipal buildings and a commercial center. The ruins left behind today run a span of some 900 years from 500 BC to AD 400. BUS: 87, 571. METRO: Cavour; Colosseo
Recommended for Outdoor Activities because: Nothing will make you feel like you’re in the center of the ancient world than standing beside this wonder.
Maria’s expert tip: After a day of touring the Roman Forum, head into the Monti neighborhood for artisan boutiques and dining.

This area is not easily accessed by public transportation, but the walk up to the top on Via Giacinto Carini is well worth it. You are surrounded by lovely views of the Alban Hills. Make sure that you go to Villa Lante before you leave the area, where you can get the best view of the city. The Fontana dell’Acqua Paola (dubbed the ‘fontanone’ by Romans, which means big fountain) is located at the point where Via Garibaldi and the Janiculum walk begins and is a stunning example of baroque design. BUS: 115 or 870 to the top or 44 and 75 to Via Giacinto Carini
Recommended for Outdoor Activities because: View one of the most beautiful panoramas of Rome from Janiculum Hill.
Maria’s expert tip: Try to head up on a cloud-free day to ensure the best view of the city.

If you feel like visiting quintessential Rome, there’s no better place to do it than at the Campo de’ Fiori open air market or mercato all’aperto. Taking a stroll through this market, gives you a glimpse of Italian culture. Once inside, you’ll witness the vendors take center stage as they turn the art of selling a tomato into an off-Broadway performance. By day, the Campo de’ Fiori market sells all types of fresh fruit and vegetables, cheese, meats and even fish. There’s also a lovely flower market in the far corner of the piazza. The Campo de’ Fiori Market is open Monday through Saturday from 7.30am-1.30pm. BUS: 40, 64, 46. TRAM: 8.
Recommended for Outdoor Activities because: One of oldest markets, Campo de Fiori warrants a stroll through.
Maria’s expert tip: Taking a stroll through the market won’t cost you a dime. If you decide to buy something, it’s best to make sure you have spicci (change) on hand as big bills are often frowned upon at the outdoor markets.

Duck is arguably one of the most likable characters in the whole trilogy. I've always pictured him with some variation of either light brown or dirty blonde hair. Although I'm not sure it specifies. I hope I did him justice for all the duck fans out there.
And ugh, the scene in Flamefall when he asks Lee to give him and Annie a shift off at the same time because she's stopped sleeping and he goes to her dorm to help her sleep just kills me with the feels.
Also, I experimented more with the blue/ mother of pearl description for the skydish breed. Happy with the results.

being in the aurelian cycle is such a wild experience because like. on one hand we have mor who makes mind-shattering world-altering analyses every few hours while initiating new members into this weird little cult of dragon worshippers. and then we have alex who is like the only active fic writer here and usually accompanies mor's ramblings while recycling the same seven posts between the two of them. and then there's like the three other blogs who i havent interacted with who tend to lurk and like posts and occasionally drop their own reality-breaking views and/or art. and then there's me! hi! i have no clue what i contribute but i arrived here a few weeks ago and i love it! sometimes i lose my shit publicly and other people love it! hooray!
