man it baffles me how everytime hozier releases music people still seem to fail to grasp that his artistry is extremely politically charged.
like this is the man that got famous from a song criticizing the church for its hypocrisy that has a music video explicitly calling out homophobia. since the beginning of his career hes been making music that explores themes of leftist activism, particularly in the context of ireland and its colonial legacy alongside vocally lifting up the black voices and artists that inspire his music. and yet still im seeing people take unreal unearth, an album that is very much about both the failings and beauty of society through a very political lens and make it about their shows!!! thats so fucked

*takes a drag off my definitely real cigarette* Idk I just wish Bendy and the Ink Machine had done what Welcome Home is doing and fully, deliberately embraced the medium it's based on to unsettle the audience. No generic-looking demons or humanoid blob monsters, no relegating the toons to window dressing, just full-on leaning into the uncanny factor, the unreality of toon logic, and the sexually-charged occult weirdness of pre-Code Fleischer animation. The only examples of actual "toon horror" I can think of that don't entirely rely on blood/cult imagery are Swing You Sinners, Invasion of the Bunny Snatchers, the Judge Doom reveal in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Ralph Bakshi's original pitch for Cool World, and maybe Pibby. And like I’m not even a horror person I just have a deep admiration for deliberate artistry and also I think toons are neat

Much of Hozier’s work is out of his deep appreciation for the work of Black artists and naming that—along with admitting just how much there is to be thankful and grateful in that truth. “If I weren’t to write music that was authentic to my influences, I would no longer feel [like] an authentic artist,” he asserts. “But what wouldn’t feel right is to not mention that all of my influences—the vast majority of my influences—come from Black artistry.” He likens it to how, if someone from Poland or Scotland came to Ireland and were a remarkable uilleann pipe player and they carved out a life and a career and were rewarded for their pipe playing, but didn’t mention Seamus Ennis or Finbar Furey, it wouldn’t make sense to him. “All I can do is keep pointing back,” he adds. “What I try to do is create breadcrumb trails to constantly signpost in the work where it is coming from—whether it be naming a song after Jackie Wilson or, in a song like ‘Almost,’ there’s something like 18 nods to jazz songs.”
The island where Hozier comes from has its own history with survival and escaping the horrors of colonial rule. Even though he donated 100% of the publishing money from his single “Jackboot Jump” to the NAACP, he can’t answer for America’s history, nor can he rise to the question of answering for America’s particular failures towards Black people—or how they are still, actively, kept out of conversations around becoming the beneficiaries of industries that make fortunes off of the music that is built from their innovations.
“I listen to music everyday that’s released in America and I find gospel chords, neo-soul chords, jazz chords, R&B beats, hip-hop beats, the legacies of funk,” Hozier says. “Gospel and jazz are constantly used in modern popular music, but what isn’t part of the conversation is that, no matter what, the music is all influenced by Black artists and it rests on the shoulders of the achievements of Black artistry. All I can do is be honest about that and try to honor it where I can. The idea of writing music that isn’t influenced by Black artistry, that ship has sailed. It’s impossible. I challenge anyone to do it, but I don’t think it can be done. If you look back at Frederick Douglass and his travels to Limerick, meeting Daniel O’Connell—our emancipator—the struggles are tied. The question of anti-racism, it’s a global question—so I try to just acknowledge that influence and honor that work.”
Reminder that Hozier, as he himself repeatedly says, is not an Irish folk artist, or a fey bard from 1,000 years ago, he’s a contemporary Irish artist who takes his main inspiration from blues, soul, jazz, R&B, and other genres of specifically Black American music. If you like his music, awesome, but let’s recognize where it comes from :)
Here’s a playlist to check out some incredible Black artists whom Hozier has mentioned as inspirations.

Seeing Billy Joel compare Taylor’s impact to that of The Beatles is just so unreal. Like that’s exactly how you begin to convince all of the naysayers that she’s one of the greats (also Billy Joel being a Taylor fan is truly one of my favourite things!!)
They can’t deny the power of Taylor Swift forever!!
Yes! This whole tour being as huge as it is has really made her star rise higher than it’s ever been, not that she wasn’t at the top before but… everyone is curious about her. Some curious enough to attend the show and come out amazed by her.
A lot of the people who say stuff about her are the ones who know absolutely nothing about her or her music, just the image of her they have based on misinformation.
I’ve said it before but, her whole career is a masterclass in artistry. Her talent and heart shines above all else, and you can’t help but be drawn to her.
Not to get all emotional but It’s always interesting to go back and watch earlier videos of how she got started compared to where she is now… it’s just amazing. So many things have to align for an artist to make it, but what’s evident is that she knew what she wanted from a very early age and had an amazing family of support and she went for it in every way possible, determined until she got where she wanted. I admire that about her so much. She’s a one in a million artist and it’s just an honor to witness.

I just listened to Hozier's album Unreal Unearth and I'm gonna explode. Holy shit what an amazing album and what an incredible artist. Here are my first impressions I got from each song.
De Selby (Part 1) - Very pretty. A beautiful song to start this album. A wonderful taste of what's to come
De Selby (Part2) - FUNKY! I'll be taking this and I will be listening to it on repeat til I'm sick of it or dead. Whichever comes first (probably death tbh).
First Time - Just a simple love song (I'm lying). It doesn't really speak to me on any kind of existential level (still lying).
Francesca - What a lovely sonG OH HOLY SHIT- (Also the ending portion of this song is heavenly, pun intended)
I, Carrion (Icarian) - I could only think about Crowley and Aziraphale when this song came on. It fits them SOOO well! Anyways, gorgeous song!
Eat Your Young - The sound of this song is so awesome and sexy for a song that uses a clever parallel to Chronos to keep the Greek mythology theme to make it about sacrificing the next generation for money and power. I live for it.
Damage Gets Done - Hozier and Brandi Carlile's voices are so pretty together. This song sounds like running through a flower filled field with someone you want to be buried next to.
Who we are - This song speaks for itself and what it has to say is beautiful and painful as shit. I love this song.
Son of Nyx - The animated masterpiece that I made in my head to this song was incredible.
All Things End - "If there was anyone to ever get through this life with their heart still intact, they didn't do it right." GODAMN SO TRUE! This song is so nice. Accepting that everything will end while still keeping hope that we'll begin again UGH! I LOVE IT!
To Someone From A Warm Climate (Uiscefhuaraithe) - Beautiful. Incredible. I'm speechless. I also cannot believe that word is pronounced that way.
Butchered Tongue - This reads to me like a poetic love letter to language, music, and to Hozier's hometown. It goes over his personal experience with growing up in his hometown and appreciating it even more as he experiences other places and recognizes even more how it has affected him. That's what I got at least. Lovely song ofc.
Anything But - If the previous song was about the love of things that make us human and connect us like language, this song is about the feeling of wanting to be anything but human or, better yet, nothing at all. So cool. I love this man.
Abstract (Psychopomp) - When I listened to this song for the first time, I didn't really pay attention to the lyrics. I still teared up. I still haven't really looked at the lyrics and I'm still emotional about it. I love music. I love life. I love that I get to experience this with my ears. I love that I can appreciate it and understand it. GOD THIS ALBUM IS SO GOOOOD!!!
Unknown/Nth - This song with a math reference in the title makes me lose my mind in the best way. "Do you know I could break beneath the weight of the goodness, love, I still carry for you that I'd walk so far just to take the injury of finally knowing you." That might just be the most emotional line I've ever heard in my life jfc.
First Light - The melodies he is singing in this song do something to me. I ascend every time that pre chorus/chorus comes in. LIKE DAMN, IF I BREATHED IN THIS SONG, I WOULD SEE INFINITY!
I need to study the lyrics of all of these songs in an academic manner soon. I could only dream of the artistry that Hozier achieved here. This album will probably change my life.

🫧🌊Neptune in Houses🫧🌊
🦋Neptun is planet of illusions, dreams, drugs, alcohol, karmic debt. It represents the ocean, some say Neptune is supposed to be the king of the ocean. It represents the confusion and fantasies we create in our heads. Idealism, hidden romance, sacrifice, spirituality, escape. Disillusionment -the thing we long for can sometimes feel out of reach, intensifying our longing or bringing sadness, disappointment, and a sense of loss.We can become disillusioned when the reality does not live up to the dream. But also represent our imagination and artistry🦋
🎨Neptune in 1st house- cover your bad qualities, good qualities come to the fore. People can see you as a dream person, spiritual, dreamy, you can emit fairy vibes. People with this placement can also have many pisces characteristics and their eyes can be larger and more accentuated. But Neptune can also cause confusion (for example: talking to someone and saying nonsense). This person is also uniquely gifted and mysterious. Neptune gives natives a special magnetism and a stare that could conquer anyone’s heart. They can read minds like others read books. Meanwhile, no one can see what’s really happening in their minds. Neptune also makes you an imaginative and artistic person.
🧞Neptune in 2nd house- may have problems with debts, money. You can have too much unrealistic ideas. These people dream wealth. Natives can make a lot of money from painting or writing books. It’s often that people with Neptune in 2nd house give their last penny for tickets to a concert rather than keeping it for food or something else they may urgently need. You can have a lot of imagination about music. You can make dream music. Many people will be impressed by their vision and encourage their career or hobbies.
🧜🏼‍♀️Neptune in 3rd house- your voice can be gentle, calm, relaxed. People with this placement dream a lot and can spend a lot of times in their head. They love spiritual things. Their thoughts can often be chaotic, confusing. When you talk to them many times they may seem absent because they are always floating in their thoughts. This can also make them great actors. It influences the natives’ way of communication, their siblings, close-by neighbors. Which means they can have a confusing relationship with them many times. They can be great writers and artists as their soul is full of poetry and mind of philosophical thinking. But because Neptune affects your thoughts, these people can be subjected to substances many times. But they can also forget things many times. Also can have problems with studying because they can’t concentrate.
🫧Neptune in 4th house- I would say this is one of the hardest placement to have for neptune & 4th house. Neptune is associated with illusion, dreams, unreality, lies, obscurity. This means that you can often feel misunderstood in the family. There can be many lies and secrets covered up. You may feel insecure and lost at home. Neptune in 4th house individuals will look for a safe home or perhaps the one they dreamed of as children. When you get older you will try to hide any memory relating to the places you grew up, in your subconscious. You may not felt warmth from your mom. You may also not have felt any connection to her, as if she didn’t care about you. Your father may probably the unemotional type, the parent who hasn’t been there for you when you needed him the most. Like I said Neptune can cause a lot of unpleasant problems in childhood. I have also seen many people have problems in the courts because of their family. But if Neptune is in good aspects then it doesn’t have to be that way. And in the end, you can create a much nicer family on your own than you had.
🧚🏽‍♂️Neptune in 5th house- good artistic ability, imagination is very rich and you are more romantic. Fantasizing about the ideal partner. You may may not see love as it actually is because you can have these rose-colored glasses when it comes to issues relating to love. Individuals are very good actors. It’s normal for them to have many friends and to change partners. Neptune here can also manifest in the longing to have a child and to feel totally fulfilled. Neptune here may also suffer disappointment and disillusionment when lovers or even children fail to live up to their dreams. You can also sacrifice a lot for children. Many people with this position have adopted children. Your love life involves a lot of fantasy, and often your deep need for drama can lead you to see things that you want to see. You might be attracted to lovers who you feel need to be saved somehow, but you could end up with people who are confused, distant, noncommittal, or dependent.
☔️Neptune in 6th house- individuals may have serious problems dealing with the everyday life as they think it’s not that important to follow a routine. Having this attitude and ignoring the most important responsibilities. They may suffer from some mysterious illnesses that can’t be diagnosed or have strange allergies that can’t be seen in others. They love animals very much. Neptune makes people chaotic, always late and dependent on others to do their job. Neptune can also make people dependent on drugs and alcohol. Could end up suffering from insomnia or panic attacks.Depending on what the aspects are. Neptune in this house can represent working with animals, spirituality. They can also be vegans.
Part 2 is comming🌊

Navigating Blender: A Gateway to Creative Careers
The Intimidating, Yet Rewarding World of Blender
For newcomers, Blender can appear as an intimidating labyrinth of functions and tools. However, this open-source 3D creation suite is more than meets the eye. It's a gateway to endless creative possibilities, paving the way for careers in various digital fields.
Mastering the Basics: The Foundation of 3D Artistry
Before delving into the complex features of Blender, understanding its basic functions is crucial. These include:
Modeling: The core of 3D creation, where you sculpt your ideas into tangible models.
Texturing: Adding colors and patterns to give life to your models.
Rigging: This is like digital puppeteering, where you create a skeleton for your model to move it around.
Animation: Bringing your models to life by creating motion.
Rendering: The final step where you turn your 3D scene into a 2D image or animation.
These foundational skills are essential for creating a 3D image and form the basis for more advanced projects.
Blending Software: When Blender Meets Complementary Tools
While Blender is incredibly versatile, certain projects require the integration of additional software, especially in the realm of 2D video production. Programs like Adobe After Effects or Photoshop often come into play for post-processing and fine-tuning, adding to the overall cost and learning curve.
The Leap into Game Development: Programming Meets Artistry
For those eyeing a career in game development, Blender serves as a valuable asset. However, it's just one piece of the puzzle. Understanding game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine is crucial, and this often requires programming knowledge. Languages like C# for Unity or C++ for Unreal Engine become essential tools in your arsenal.
Conclusion: A Journey Worth Taking
Blender might be daunting at first glance, but it's a journey worth embarking on. The initial challenges give way to a world of creative freedom, with opportunities in animation, game development, and beyond. While the need for additional software and skills like programming can add layers of complexity and expense, the investment in learning and tools is a stepping stone to a rewarding career in the digital arts.
As you master Blender and its accompanying skills, you open doors to a realm where imagination meets reality, transforming daunting beginnings into the start of an exciting, creative career.

Im so sick and tired of all the Russian netizens talking about how valiullina is too big and how she is still growing bigger. There are other prima ballerina who also are not the typical skinny to the bone type of dancers, so why are they insulting her saying that she couldn’t dance properly because of her huge bones?!!
Honestly I’m worried that the theatre won’t be giving her more roles because of her body :(
That is really unfortunate. I never really understood the fixation on extremely long limbs and unreal hyperextensions. It's not like that always translates to skill nor artistry. Dancers typically look bigger on stage too, like in every photo I've seen of Sofya in rehearsal, she's still slender in my opinion.
So far though, she's been given a lot of roles so maybe it's not an issue for management/higher ups. We'll soon see her in Jewels and grand pas in La Bayadere. Not all the castings are out either and there are like 20 Nutcracker shows lol. I hope they give her more chances!
This really makes you wonder how many dancers we've missed because of these unrealistic standards. ( Unrelated but I'm particularly bitter about Maria Petukhova. She had technique and stage presence. There's a reason why she was beside Maria Khoreva at the barre and was a leader for center exercises. Such a disservice for lovers of the art to not have her on a main stage)

Just as a heads up - if I do reblog anything about the Goncharov thing (a movie that does not actually exist) it’ll be tagged with #Goncharov Gaslight so that there is as little confusion about it as possible.
I find some of the artistry going into the meme beautiful and hilarious, but I also don’t want to fuck with anyone’s sense of reality past the point of a joke.
Edit: I have been informed #unreality is a preferred tag for such things, and will be sure to include that and the #tw unreality as well!

Friendly reminder no game requires over 100million in budget and Lethal Company is 10$ made by one dude.
Friendly reminder you, yes, you, right now, can make And Sell, a game. Right now. Unreal Engine? Unity? Gamedot? Gamemaker? RPG maker? Source Engine?
Don't get me started on all the free shit, or pre-made shit that cut costs significantly. Or reusing assets you've had for decades.
Friendly reminder that Graphics never mattered and putting it ahead of even the simplest artistry and clarity has only increased budgets Absolutely Unneccessarily, and thus prices, arbitrarily, went up as well, but nothing gameplay wise has improved since Dark Souls at best. A game from 2011.
Friendly reminder that buying a game on sale is not "getting one over" on anyone but yourself. Companies, in fact, set these sales up themselves. All you're doing is delaying being a Pay Piggy Useful Idiot. But still choosing to be. Please. Please understand that companies set these sales up themselves. Please understand you're embarrassing as all hell thinking Sales are a gotcha for anyone but towards yourself from companies. Please understand that even if you pull the trigger, the industry held the gun to your head, and you didn't win anything. Please. Please grow the fuck up.
Friendly Reminder that these companies hire Addiction Experts to give you and children mental and financial issues so they can claim "disappointing" streak setting record profits again after a decade of doing this, it's never been subtle and not recognizing that gives me depression.
Friendly Reminder that just about every game company SA's their staff, overworks, underpays if at all pays, and in general blacklist and have pizza party layoffs for people Just Like You And Me, employees, workers, developers, whatever you want to say, they're on your level, not the CEOs.
Friendly Reminder that N64 cartridge prices are not, and have never, been legitimate arguments to increase prices without increasing literally anything else, from quality to content, to still having DLC and micros, the price increase was the consumer's demand of less for more. Utterly. Pathetic.
Friendly Reminder that you Do Not Have To Buy From Companies and this is the Last Industry With Ethical Consumption possible.
Friendly Reminder that there is No Other Regulator than the Consumer. You and Me. When you and I demand better for less, companies have no choice but to listen.
However.
Friendly Reminder: Guaranteed Sales have made this industry completely unfixable. You're either choosing to support an industry of sexual assault, regular assault, and horrific work conditions, or you know...just...just buy indie.
Really imagine a world where all ya had to do to lower sexual assault rates was...buy from Indie instead of actively supporting, defending, and enabling this horrific industry?
Friendly Reminder: You aren't going to fucking die if you don't buy that product, you're a human being respect yourself for fucks sake, companies abuse your lack of self-respect to get you to lower your standards.
Friendly Reminder: I haven't changed my stance since the early 360 years. Ya'll just helped companies move the goalpost. I didn't. Do better. Be better. You only benefit yourself, consumers, workers, and the art, by not supporting this dreadful industry.
Friendly Reminder: for the price of One (1) Triple A game, you can get 10 indie titles that are far, far superior, and will make an actual lasting mark on your life. Unlike anything triple a has put out in decades.
Friendly Reminder: In 10 years everything you did in Fortnite and Apex Legends, Overwatch etc, will be deleted. Gone. Nothing to come back to. All the money put in? Poof. Gone. Nothing to show but a receipt. Won't even be able to play the game anymore. It will live on in YT videos. A mere memory.
Stop buying from Triple A and FOR GOD'S SAKE, STOP DEFENDING THEM???!??!!!? I'd ask of the sex was worth it, but we both know these people will never get laid. They can't even respect themselves enough to not let a company fuck them in the ass one way or the other.
Incredible there's a hustle culture for gaming, with digital libraries. Imagine showing off how shanghai'd you were into giving away money to people already rich whilst you're poor and permanently sexless. Like congrats on throwing all resources into a bloated, dead industry kiddo, your mommy's credit card is gonna chargeback and your account closed. Losers.

When a new album comes out, I usually don’t pay attention to lyrics at all on the first listen, just vibes. If the vibes are great, I keep listening for vibes a few more times before focusing on lyrics.
Y’all.
Unreal Unearth has gorgeous vibes. Vibes alone are perfect. If you never learned a single lyric, you’d be experiencing exquisite artistry.
And then, you start paying attention to the lyrics.
And you go, “oh no, this perfect experience somehow became even more perfect.”
Hozier has created such a beautiful and devastating experience. What a wonderful human, sharing his art with us.

The whole interview is well worth a read, but here’s a few highlights
Hozier tactfully addressing the internet lust brigade:
Hozier may find comfort in maintaining a certain level of mystery. Earlier this year, a Spotify user shared a playlist titled submissive men !! that featured four Hozier songs, including “NFWMB,” from his 2018 EP Nina Cried Power. The musician finds his inclusion on the playlist “interesting” and raises his eyebrows at the idea that he might have some songs out serving as theme music for all the subby boys out there.
“I think I’m glad most people don’t know me all that well,” he says. “Sometimes I think the negative space between me and the actual me and fans is filled with very, I think, attractive descriptions of myself or attractive imaginings of myself.”
Hozier on the politics of his music:
That said, he doesn’t want his music used for causes he doesn’t support. “What I’m concerned [with] is if it gets co-opted for something that’s harmful or deliberately harmful,” he says, his voice becoming firmer with his conviction. For as many love songs as Hozier sings, he is equally committed to social justice and calling attention to inequality and oppression. In “Butchered Tongue,” from Unreal Unearth, he highlights the colonialist practice of forcing indigenous peoples to abandon their mother languages. He also directly references pitchcapping, an ancient form of torture famously used by the English to put down the Irish Rebellion of 1798. Pointing out the atrocities of the world is as important to him as declarations of undying love.
“I'm very interested in Irish history, but I find that Irish history– it’s one little microcosm of something that happened across the world, you know what I mean? And so my understanding, the history of my place, where I come from—it informs my understanding of imperialism, of global imperialism, and it informs my understanding of global power structures,” he says. “They’re part of my psychic makeup, just from what I understand of my own country’s history, my own nation’s history. … It colors the lens, as it were, with how I see the world.”
Hozier on fans ignoring the influence of Black artists on his music:
“This is kind of part of the wider thing … I can talk about my influences being of Black artistry. It’s mentioned all the time. It is in the work. It’s literally in the work … and it’s just something that is not taken seriously,” he says.
Black fans have often taken to social media to express their own frustration at how white fans conveniently ignore Hozier’s tributes to Black artists, praising him instead as a ridiculously tall forest elf from a magical land far, far away. But Hozier says it’s natural for him to pay homage, to take care of the work he’s built his own on.
“It just seems strange that it wouldn’t be part of the conversation,” he says. “And it’s so fundamental to my influence. I named the songs after Black artists, and the work is signposted constantly back to it. I just try to be honest with it as best I can, and try to approach that conversation with the spirit of honesty and openness.”
