I am so normal about Digital Circus that I came up with an idea for an AU where the Circus is a literal traveling circus in 1920s America and they're not doing very well at the time when they meet Pomni.

Every character is some kind of an outcast who joined the circus out of desperation.

Caine is the owner of the circus (Moon is the owner of the owner slash wife) and has a dog named Bubble.

Kinger is a war veteran who never got accepted back to society, his wife passed away from tuberculosis, he has ptsd. Performs classic magic tricks and illusions.

Ragatha is a suffragette who was disowned by her conservative family. A dancer.

Jax is an orphan who used to work on the farm for people he's not related to but lost his job when they sold their land to a big manufacturing company. Animal handler.

Zooble worked at the factory since early teenage years but lost their job due to industrialization. Heavy smoker and also a heavy lifter of the circus.

Gangle used to write comedies for the local theaters back in her hometown but her family wanted to had her married to cure her "female hysteria" and she had to leave her home because of this unwanted perspective. Performer and writer of the circus.

Pomni is an immigrant who wanted to get a better life in America but failed miserably all her her plans and ended up alone on an unknown continent with no money and relatives to back her up. Becomes a jester of the circus to sort of replace Kaufmo who passed of spanish flu not too long ago before she joined.

Dead/Abstracted Performer Headcanons Volume 2/5

Name: Barridge ( A simple play on barrel of a gun and widget, also kind of sounds like barrage)

Avatar: Pink sloshy blob in a canon unicycle with a jester hat on the back.

Personality: Energetic and slightly clingy goober who was something of an adrenaline junky and enjoyed almost all the adventures.

Fun fact: Barridge had full control of the canon at all times, but not of his fluid head. Bonus: The other members of the first four took to calling him Barry and future arrivals all thought that was his actual name

Abstraction: He was the longest lasting member of the first four humans to enter the circus. The weight of missing his friends and Caine pressuring him to interact with the new performers just ended up being too much. His abstracted form broke a ride at the outdoor carnival and briefly glitched one other person.

Name: Queener ( Even I have to take the easy route some time)

Avatar: Only difference between her and Kinger that's not visible in the portrait is a longer robe.

Personality: Wine aunt who arrived at the same time as Kinger, neither could remember the other's human life, but felt they should stick close together and formed a very close but nebulous bond. They were fiercely protective of each other.

Fun fact: She had a Canadian accent.

Abstraction: Kinger started letting go of his inhibitions to have more fun on adventures which worried her but she kept those feelings buried until it was too late. Her rampage broke a bunch of crap in the tent but fortunately, no one was glitched. Kinger blamed his perceived recklessness for her snapping which made him even more paranoid than he would have been if she just abstracted on her own.

Time to blow this case wide open. Since age list reveal, I have estimated the ages in which every character had been transported.

Starting with Kinger, I think like Pomni, he was transported in his 20s. Along with the old abstracted characters, he spent a decade in the circus. By the end of that decade everyone had abstracted, leaving Kinger alone.

Then Ragatha joined the circus, shortly followed by Gangle. Ragatha was 20, Gangle was 16. Personally, it just doesn't make sense that Gangle acts so...immature?? Unless she had been in the circus for a while, causing her to stay at one mental age, which I predict was 16.

Then Jax and Zooble joined and considering Zooble kind of acts like Skipper from Barbie, or for better reference, Uzi from Murder Drones and Jax acts like an teenage boy, they were both 17-18.

So here's my list for those who didn't read

Kinger - 28 (been there for two decades)

Ragatha - 20 (been there for a decade)

Gangle - 16 (been there for a decade)

Zooble - 18 (been there for 4 years)

Jax - 17 (been there for 5 years)

Pomni - 25 (this is just canon lol)

Take this with a grain of salt since I came up with this on a whim.

only thing I want in my life is for Jax’s room to be revealed on the inside. I want it to be a flipped 180 version of his little smug asshole personality, and his room is just pastel rainbows and carrots. I want him to be embarrassed and ashamed of it. Maybe this can be another thing for why he steals peoples keys to their room. He just sneaks in and sleeps in there. He can’t stand the pastelness of it all.

Who wants to bet Caine always has to break it up whenever Jax causes trouble?

Like, I keep seeing all this art of Jax getting beat up or strangled after he does something mean to the other characters.

And I'm just imagining every time this happens Caine has to come in like the referee and get everyone to calm down and stop beating on him.

Kinger wouldn't understand the phrase "Butterflies in the stomach" basically he'd freak out a bit since he'd think the person literally has butterflies inside of them basically like "YOU HAVE BUTTERFLIES INSIDE OF YOU, HOW DID THEY GET IN THERE DID THEY GROW INSIDE DID YOU EAT THEM SHOULD I GET THEM OUT FOR YOU!?" basically like that

Quick TADC headcanon: Jax is an asshole because he's scared that the second he gets close with someone, they're gonna abstract, so he keeps everyone at a distance.

Why is he scared? Remember that one door in the living quarters with the picture of a worm on a string? This one?

Rewatched Tadc (again) and spent some time thinking on it to kinda give myself some structural meaning! This is kinda how I see this sad little tale of precious babies

Candy coated dread.

Here they are, in this absolute utopia of a world. No need to work, eat, sleep, you have whatever you want, you would think it would be a dream. Except it’s not. It lacks a key thing humans constantly spend their life searching for, purpose. Here you are, in this world of endless creativity and fun, but with no reason to create and feel joy. All the things that brought on those feelings have been wiped away. Your family, your friends, your life’s enjoyment, your identity, for gods sake your own physical being has been striped away from you. And here you are surrounded by joy and childlike wonder, grasping for strings of sanity because you lack purpose. You lack meaning for existence. You lack self. It’s a common thought for humans to question life’s meaning and worth, it’s a sort of drive to create and explore. But now there’s no reason, this is the final extent. And what do you do? Just. Keep. Living. Through the pain of watching everything you knew, the good, the bad, and the ugly, just slip right out of reach along with whatever sanity and self worth you held. All you can do is sit there and keep living, because the sweet release that is death isn’t an option, and losing whatever you had left entirely is far to painful. So you keep on going. And you can’t stop. And here you are in this utopia where you can’t die. This is a perfect world, a candy coated world of existential dread.

God I love animated shows with life questioning crises and some biblical implications

Dead/Abstracted Performer Headcanons Volume 1/5

Decided to make a bunch of shit up about all the dead people who entered the digital circus (divided into pairs)

Name: Glumis (pronounced like gloom and the name Loomis)

Avatar: Relatively short and stocky inchworm (with suspenders) but his torso and arms telescope out when sufficiently excited or angry.

Personality: Self important "artiste" who initially enjoyed the circus and always gave Caine suggestions for what would make the most engaging and "well written" adventures. He carried himself as empathetic but lashed (and stretches) out when someone would criticize his ideas.

Fun fact: Kinger, Ragatha and Kaufmo were the only canonically named performers to meet Glumis before his abstraction.

Abstraction: One day he realized Caine never took his suggestions and confronted him about it, Caine tried to let him down gently but Bubble showed up and accidentally made it seem like Caine had a personal grudge against Glumis, which broke him. He was sent to the cellar before he could do any damage.

Name: Rovey (since Rover is the most common dog name)

Avatar: Avarege sized dog with a tie that covers their torso and two pairs of cufflinks on each limb (with and extra one on their left leg).

Personality: Cartoonishly boring and tranquil southerner who tried to befriend everyone to keep a healthy balance in the circus dynamic. Occasionally played into stereotypical dog behavior to amuse the other performers.

Fun fact: Rovey was among the first four people to enter the program (even before the chess pieces) and due to a one-off bug forgot what gender they identified as in the real word (he/him, in case you were wondering). Bonus: They could emit stock dog noises.

Abstraction: When new humans entered the digital circus for the first time since their arrival Rovey was so disturbed by the sheer idea of unknowing people being trapped there that it depressed them to the point of Abstraction. They glitched the newbie and two other "original" humans in there rampage by the lake. (The last original had already abstracted)
