HELLOOOOO I ABSOLUTELY ADORE YOUR ART it's sooo beautiful and I stare at your work so much!! do you have any art inspirations? like any artists or specific pieces that just. scratch your brain?? hope you're having a good one ^o^
first of all: thank you so much! don't get lost in it now! and secondly: i have put off answering this ask for so long bc i find that question pretty difficult to answer. i love way, way too much art. but still it's an opportunity to showcase some that i love. under the cut :) im sorry if this off from what you're expecting (crying emoji)
these are a small fraction of art that tickle my brain, only visual, sometimes inspiration just springs from a non-fiction like an essay, or in the repetition of furniture music, a strange movie with a story but with no discernible plot (the best kind of movie), when you cook a meal etc etc ....they exist where you least expect it........
i mainly do two art styles that, despite me whining abt inconsistency, are deliberate bc they give different moods, and i dont really care if my art doesnt look the same, esp since im not really interested in the industry where style consistency is part of branding yada yada. it’s more fun this way. i'll start with the inks.
one of my favourite mangaka ever is nishioka kyoudai. they're a brother-sister duo that writes these surreal poem-like stories without a plot. once you see it, it's a Very obvious inspiration. when i first got into hypmic, one of the comments i even made then was gentaro feels like a character from their work which lead to no longer human comic later for inktober www thats why i draw him a lot in the style inspired from their art...
below is the front and back cover of their most popular manga: kami no kodomo (just a warning if anyone checks this out: it's violent and disgusting. dont be like me who read them @ age 12, i was an edgy problem child)
another one of my favourites is taiyo matsumoto. art below is from their manga titled tekkon kinkreet, which has a movie ! and one of their manga got an anime adaptation as well....please watch ping pong the animation it's really good (shameless promo)
theres more, but these two mangaka really got me loving inks and not caring abt my art looking all social media pretty. weird is great!!! i embrace manga that looks unconventional
now for paintings, it's a different world ww most of them are contemporary. i like paintings that depict smth mundane or private. i love tenderness.......i like it when bodies feel like they merge into one, and where the figures' edges become imperceptible unless you look closely. intimism is where it’s at babey!!

idk why people are saying catra wont get redeemed or that now you’re Problematique if you ship catradora like... this was obviously eventually going to happen. it’s the climax of the series, things have to get much worse before they start to get better; going from lukewarm rivalry to redemption wouldnt have been very interesting
the worst ending they’d probably give catra is either her sacrificing herself for redemption (which is cheap and unlikely) or her starting to turn herself around very close to the end and thus not having much time to figure herself out, with her and adora’s relationship not being fully recovered

i think i am in the overwhelming minority of people who like the epilogue... like i’m not gonna say i love it and i don’t consider it canon personally but i don’t hate it
that being said i have known myself to not have a critical bone in my body except for when it comes to basic morals which there are a few problems with but that’s mostly specifically from certain characters and not the writing itself, which i actually find pretty interesting

Joelleity: ur scattered nonthesis 🤝 my scattered reply but godddddd i genuinely remember loving a lot of B's costuming/styling even after reading criticism that made sense but im always just a sucker for any media that Tries stuff and boy were they trying stuff but i have gotten a feeling from what i remember and from what uve been mentioning that their choices are like. very. representative of larger sticking points abt it as a show as a whole lol for sure--
--all presented image that u cant actually sink ur teeth into bc if u start to u'll just get irritated abt the nothing underneath kjsdfg versus yeah!!! delightful knowledge abt actors involved in their chars' styling which means its probably gonna be some degree of. not even practicality but authenticity? personality? which is always what i gravitate towards when i draw clothes is i think abt what a char would actually choose n how an outfit would work in action
one more. tie that in somehow with what i read days ago abt mary's fashion being pulled partly from like a century ahead as a very . reflection of her character. which i loved finding out i love so much that theres genuine thought put into mary. all of a part w 'exaggerating to tell something true' my beloved storytelling style. mwah. chefs kiss. also. why clothes fastenings if not to unfasten the clothes? so extremely true

YES. yes yes love this point. big agree i thinking about how beloved every crew member is cause how True the feel. like my friend who works at a department clothing store like (looks at lucius) "im pretty sure we sell that" and its a big part of i think jims appeal of like. cool ass nonbinary character that the camera just. loves. just the clothes give them the most dramatic silhouette on the show (with lighting to match), they look like a gun slinging cowboy but… u know pirate with knives. AND they still have that vibe after the beard comes off.
I will say, its probably even a theme of bridgerton that the characters like. dont get to wear things they like (thinking of little yellow girl from derry girls and bookish little sister. cause like society and structure. compliance narrative etc) but u know, how deep is that. versus blackbonnet identity and clothing EVERYTHING
OH. OH OH. this is so true im losing it. i did think she looked a little victorian or edwardian. (i think her fashion thing even passes on to the kids in stede absence cause [checks screenshots] yeah alma starts wearing pants and both of them have much more active looking clothing.)
i love mary as a character so much in her own right and narratively to like hold stedes feet to the fucking fire but also be the. foil maybe. for him and how like. society traps him (cause stede, not maliciously was trapping her). so much thought and care for her. Letting our characters do bad things kinda stuff. but not saying that means they cant do better

I would like to formally request a post about the twitch chat as a Shakespearean third person omniscient audience, please and thank you
asdf I wasnt expecting to make this post immediately but like... the validation... so here lets do this;
I realize my original post was poorly worded so let me clarify, the third person omniscient audience is a facet of all tragedies, not just shakespearean. In Classical Greek tragedies this took the form of the chorus, a sort of faceless ensemble that would acted as a middleman for the fourth wall, both interacting with the characters on stage and singing to the audience, telling them what would happen to the characters. Shakespeare’s work may also contain a chorus, most notably the prologue of Romeo and Juliet is read by the chorus, but the main way the audience recieves this omniscience in his plays is from characters’ soliloquies. The character will basically put the play on pause and talk to themselves, discussing their thoughts, feelings and plans with only the audience to hear. And if you think abt it that’s basically what talking to your twitch chat is. When Wilbur or Techno or Tommy or ANYONE mutes their discord mic and starts talking to their chat directly, thats a soliloquy babey! And it sounds silly to compare goofy Minecraft lets plays to Shakespeare, but whether they realize it or not thats what theyre doing. And the goofy Minecraft lets players take it one step further, because the audience can talk back. Because live streams are an interactive medium, the fourth wall is very loose in the dream smp. Techno threads the needle on this with the introduction of his voices, taking his chat behind the fourth wall and making them a part of the plot, but for others they just roll with it and incorporate the audience into the story as-is, which I think is just as if not more interesting! It’s almost a combination of the soliloquy and the concept of the greek chorus, between being an observer and an active part of the story. When wilbur is in the button room debating whether or not to blow it all up, his chat is cheering him on or yelling at him to stop and he acknowledges them. he argues with them, in fact! Tommy being somewhere high up and the chat going “DO A FLIP” is another, albeit more lighthearted, example, but I find it interesting that you can track his character’s mental state by whether he’s staring pensively at the lava or snarking at his chat for the dumb joke.
I think you can debate whether or not the audience for the dream smp is “omniscient”. We dont know exactly how the story will end at any given time. I especially had NO clue where season 2 was going right up until the end. But in some ways we do know what will happen when characters tell us what they’re going to do. As much as I like to rag on techno for his whole “bluh I told you guys I was an anarchist” from a character perspective, from a tragedy perspective he told the audience exactly what was going to happen. Same with wilbur and his stupid Chekov’s gun references, even if the characters couldn't see the signs, we the audience can. and Its the same thing with stuff like Ranboo’s memories and journals, or Karl’s time traveling. We the audience know more than the characters involved, and to bring it back to Hitchcock, knowing something bad is going to happen ramps up the tension for us in the story. the one downside of this is the attempts at meta gaming when the chat will try to warn their streamer of choice abt whats happening, but I cant fault the chat itself or any specific audience members for that. Its a downside of the medium, if you introduce the concept of audience interaction into your story you have to live with the risk that the audience may not do exactly what you want.Its a part of what makes it unique and these streams are all improv-heavy anyway, so the storytellers have to roll with the punches.

tbh if youre going to make a silent hill movie, why not just adapt the second game
i know that the others are more classic horror that appeals to a wider audience, but an artistic, complex, psychological horror film? incredible
silent hill 2 has a self-contained story with compelling characters and more storytelling devices (symbolism babey), like it has much more of a focus on the story than some of the other games
the issue with a lot of video game movies is that the source material doesnt have much of a story, but you could very easily adapt sh2's story into a three act structure, you'd just have to add some more of a narrative drive from place to place, and maybe some more character interactions
i know, realistically, an adaptation of sh2 would just turn out bad, or never be made because its such a niche story, but like
maybe i don't have as much of a bias against adaptations as fans of things usually do, but i would love to see a horror film based on sh2 thats accurate to the story and nails the atmosphere of the game and all the themes and stuff
in the medium of a movie, you could even expand on that kind of stuff, the themes and symbolism and emotions of characters especially

life update babey!!!
as y’all know, ive not exactly been present online for a Hot Second. college has really been beating my ass. but now that im ready to ride again i feel like updating u on whats been goin on!!!
im almost done with college which is terrifying. i still have no idea how to Life. and im ANGRY i have to take math classes. shanks didnt have to take math classes and he turned out just fine
ive hopped into the realm of voiceover work!!! which is baller because thats my dream career!!!!!!!! what!!!!!!!!!!
im in an improv comedy group and as of last night we were named the number one group in southeast america which means we get to compete for KING OF THE IMPROV GROUP at the national competition!!!!!!!!!!! what!!!!!!!!
in addition to that, im in a traveling storytelling group, and we’re about to debut a retelling of norse mythology for 2000 children and ya girl gets to play loki!!
my heart has been taken by two things in addition to one piece: fire emblem three houses and bts. i will talk ur ear off about them this is a Warning
all-in-all, my mental health hasnt been the greatest, but this tumblr always brought me peace, so in a sense, im coming back to heal and just be wild with yall again!! fuck zoro

i mean if we are talking school i would obviously go with creative options like theatre music art all that fun jazz, but i really like english. writing is fun and i’ve been told im pretty good at it. but just writing. everything else sucks. idk being creative is my jam and jelly babey

three dreams huh? one of them is definitely to be able to draw well. i can kinda draw but if you have ever seen anything from my art blog u know i mostly suck. i always wanted to be a storyteller. i have so many worlds and ideas. making a comic is always a dream I had. that kinda goes in hand with the art thing. third dream lemme think. . . playing guitar. i just want to be able to play guitar well. so when she learned about what was happening up at auradon ?? devastating.
shocked at the fact that the isle was even created
shocked at the fact that the white queen felt forced to send her sister to the isle of the lost, as the time of the isle’s creation had a lot of suspicious eyes among the heroes and the royals. if the white queen didn’t send their ‘villain’ to the isle, then they were seen as highly suspect
all things that the white queen shared with her children, because she learned that telling the truth was important for keeping together a family (and she regrets deeply never telling the truth about the tarts)
totally following ‘alice through the looking glass’ canon here bc that movie has my heart pls fight me
TRUTH became important for lillanelle, and being an avid writer and storyteller from the start, she started wanting to tell the truth
first it started with telling her mother all the times she lied (it was a short list but an honest one)
then it started with talking to all the underlanders and sharing their stories and truths
then it started with trying to find out all the secret things and finding truth hidden under rocks and clamshells
only when she was allowed up to the upperland for the first time did she find a name for it: reporting.
so now !!! this is their first time in auradon and they’re very excited to see what they can uncover
