Reasons to play 30XX:

- best mega man X game released in the last decade

--thats not just due to the lack of competition, mind you (although that is a factor), the smooth controls, great story, level design, and especially the super-villain level PRESENTATION with a great soundtrack that blows it's predecessor's out of the water (which is saying a lot because that predecessor is 20XX) and visuals based on classic 16-bit games are absolutely worth experiencing

- I know Rouge-likes can be intimidating, but 30XX is an amazing entry point, ESPECIALLY if you are already a mega man fan. That's in one part because of mega mode, which basically gives you infinite lives, gives you complete control of the stage order, and lets you replay levels you've already beaten - as well as some other changes to help ease you in. But that's not your only other option...

- Maker mode is, for the most part, exactly what it says on the tin- make 30XX levels, or play ones made by others online. If you ever wanted a mega man X maker, this is pretty close.

-- Maker mode also let's you do a version of the main campaign with user-made chunks, So there's really no shortage of content

- speaking of, 30XX has INSANE replayability, although that's no surprise given that it's fusing a series that is in part known for it's replay value with a genre that is in part known for it's replay value - the clown generated content of maker mode is just icing on the cake

- speaking of the fusion, both mega man and rouge-likes are also in part famous for their difficulty, and 30XX very much delivers- ESPECIALLY after you unlock the various difficulty modificatiers known as entropy (which also increase rewards of course) - resulting in a game with plenty of good challenge

-- but if that sounds like too much for you, no worrys - you can always use assist mode, no one will judge

- and there's daily/weakly challenges too! No reason to worry about them if completing online for score/time isn't your thing, but the flavored ones can always be a nice change of pace

- there's also seed racer (input a specific seed for your run) and rush job (a boss rush mode) returning from 20XX, did I mention that this game has a lot of content?

- another great thing about 30XX are accessibility options; in addition to the aforementioned assist mode and the ability to use either keyboard or controller, you can also control the screenshake and even set different outlines for players, projectiles, and enemies, as well as a background filter with colors of your choosing. There's probably other cool stuff in the options menu I'm forgetting too! There's no excuse now - everyone should have no life!!!

-- I feel like now is a great time to bring up that this is an indie game that costs 20 bucks on steam and is currently on sale for 16 that will be getting some free content updates. By comparison, pokemon scar and pokemon violet are 60$ with extra expensive DLC and have one of the worst options menus I have ever seen from a triple a title.

---Oh, and 30XX also works properly so... Take that

-Dally (the robot cat) also returns from 20XX. This is the most important thing ever

- Ace has become so stylish he could pass as a paper Mario TTYD partner

- both Ace and Nina have been overhauled since 20XX, and are far more distinct - you aren't just chosing what flavor of primary weapon you want

- 30XX really is blowing 20XX out of the water in every way it can, and given how good 20XX was that's really saying something. There's more level themes, augs, way more music, mid-bosses, weapons and powers, and no shortage of balancing and quality of life improvements.

--and the few things I can think of that 20XX does have over 30XX, like challenge characters, endless mode, and a complete datalore, are all planned for future updates. There's genuinely a lot to look forward too

- And the story is genuinely amazing, I can't spoil it here, but it's got basically everything. It's a really cool mystery, with twists, feels, commentary (of both meta and social flavors), humor, lesbians, Delta is there... It's great all around.

BUG GAME MASTERPOST (AS OF NOV. 2022) TEXT-ONLY

heyhey! this isnt actually anything "official"! i just thought i’d make this for fun and to also spread around bug video games that others, who like the silly little critters as well, might enjoy!

(remember that this is as of nov. 29 2022 so if any game unreleased game on here is now released, it may have been after the date that this was made)

there will be 3 categories: released games, games to be released/are being developed, and honorable mentions

under the released games, i will also be stating if i have finished the game, played them, or simply heard of them (can range from "i have the game wishlisted", "owned but not played", literally only heard of it, etc.)

these bug games will also only list games where most invertebrates are the main focus of the game

other than that, i will be doing the following if possible!:

- i will be providing brief comments for what i think of each game (this is my opinion of each game!! everyone has their own tastes and its alright if you dont agree with what i say! and in no way is my comments for each game professional/an attempt to critique the game in any way ksfhskjd)

- what the gameplay is like (sort of. im not really good at explaining LMAO)

- where you can find these games (game websites may be linked if available instead!)

released games

hollow knight - website; finished - a challenging metroidvania! i personally found this game really fun though i did have to take breaks from the game due to some difficult fights and events lsfhdskj. its definitely the type of game thats fun to replay and see how much you've improved since first playing it! i also think the world building, implied lore, and characters are really well done! (i highly enjoy reading people's analysis posts of this game jksdfkj)

overall, i suggest this game if you enjoy challenging fights and platformers, creative characters, games with deep lore, and/or emotional osts!

bug fables - website; finished - i am emotionally attached to the blue moth. anyways! bug fables is a paper mario rpg inspired game (used to be called paper bugs actually!) and it has charming characters and a good story! this game has a very fun ost and you definitely fall in love with the characters as you learn more and more about them. i find the sidequests very much worth doing and also really fun as it makes you go around and interact with a lot of the npcs in the game! you'll end up seeing that a lot of them have unique personalities and are loveable in their own right :] !!

i suggest the game if you like rpgs, bright characters and settings, bubbly osts, and/or perhaps even learning a dark secret or 2?

bugsnax - website; finished - silly game about catching and eating bug-shaped foods! or food-shaped bugs? food bugs!!!! the horrors. all the bugsnax designs are super fun and some of them are challenging to catch which i think makes the game pretty fun! there's also a bunch of ways that u could catch a bugsnak, its just up to what you can think of! the horrors. the characters are also pretty loveable and they have really neat stories and getting to know them can change the course of the game (just the ending really actually)

highly suggest the game if you enjoy being a little creative with how you perform a task/solving puzzles, characters that are more than what they seem, and silly creative creature designs!

creepy castle - available on steam; played - i have yet to finish this game! but from what i've played, its pretty fun exploring around, reading lore tidbits, and doing the duel minigames! it has a neat retro style and you can change the colors/gui settings if i remember correctly!

i suggest the game if you like rpgs, pixelated style games, and/or minigames!

webbed - website; finished - super cute spider game about saving your bf, swinging around on and crafting webs, and making new friends! did i also mention that youre a spider that shoots lasers from their eyes? webbed is a really charming game that can be completed in just a few hours, even with all the bonus/side things that you can do!

i suggest it if you like pixelated style games, are a completionist, want a shorter game, or just want to be a silly little laser spider!

apico - website; finished - a relaxing game about keeping bees and restoring bee populations! recently they've added an update where you can help repopulate solitary bees and butterflies, and there's a bunch more content that they're planning to develop and release!! the characters have silly bee pun names and have neat dialogue! (they also have pronouns next to their names when you talk to them <3) bee management is not super demanding and with some mods, you can enhance your experience in the game. personally, i have not played with mods, i really enjoy the base game alone! you can also build pretty bases, listen to the relaxing ost, or trap yourself in menu hell!

i suggest the game if you want something that's more laidback (though there is a bit of management), like reading silly dialogue blurbs, want to have a calming ost to listen to, or just wanna do some beekeeping! (proceeds also go to charities that help repopulate native bee populations!)

grounded - website; played - grounded is an open world survival sandbox game (theres also a literal sandbox in the game) where you're a teen that's been shrunken down and must survive in the backyard while finding a way to bring yourself back to your original size. the game actually got a full release in back in september and i have yet to play it because my partner has not been able to play kfhskj. but we have played when it was in early access and it was super fun! there are giant spiders in the game but there's an accessibility setting that allows you to make the spiders more blobby in case you have arachnophobia! other than that it's really fun to go running around the game screaming and crying because the giant mosquito is about to 2-shot you. the base building is also pretty fun with a variety of materials you can make your base from as well as decor. there's also a variety of weapons and armors to choose from and create a build to optimally destroy bugs that are not so friendly. you can also tame some of the passive creatures and become extremely overprotective of them. (im not speaking from experience [lying]) there's actually a storyline to follow as well that helps encourage exploration and progression in the game!

i recommend the game if you enjoy open world sandbox survival games, being scared out of your mind when something you didnt see gets aggro'd on you, making neat bases, and/or strategizing and making builds to suit your playstyle! (i also highly recommend playing with friends!)

space moth dx - available on steam; played - an arcade-like shoot-em-up bullet hell where you play a moth shooting lasers at other laser shooting bugs! this is actually a fairly tough game if you're not familiar with these types of games. i personally have not gotten that far and have yet to play it again kslfhkjs but i think the art is super neat and the gameplay is pretty fun!

i recommend it if you enjoy bullet hells where you literally don't see anything But bullets (there is also space moth: lunar edition!)

bug academy - available on steam and switch; played - a pretty fun physics puzzle game where you control a swarm of bugs! there are different levels with different objectives and a star-based score depending on how well you do in each one! the only reason i havent finished this game is because im a completionist for it and got stuck on a level i have yet to get 3 stars on ksjfhkj. if you ever get this game, i highly recommend playing with a controller!

i suggest this game if you like puzzles, timed/stopwatch levels, trying to see how far you can chuck something, destroying buildings by chucking items, crying when you knock over your tower on accident, and/or being a silly bug swarm

crustacean nations - available on steam and itch.io; finished - woah moth!!! a game about crabs???? yeah they're getting a spot on this list, they're sea bugs to me. but anyways! crustacean nations is a fairly short game with only 3 levels (if i remember correctly) and a sandbox mode. you're essentially commanding a kingdom of crabs and you must defend your sand castle while destroying the other crab sand castles. there's also a pit where you can sacrifice crabs and summon a Big One. it doesn't take too much strategy to win each level but you still need to think about it a bit!

i suggest it if u want to play a brief n short army-building game! with crabs!

kill it with fire - website; finished - a silly game about exterminating spiders. as you progress through the game you get a bunch of new weapons to um. delete spiders with. there's also a bunch of challenges you can do and achievements to get! i've completely 100%'d the game just because it's kinda fun trying to do the challenges and collect all the achievements. the ending is also. a little messed up.

i suggest the game if you're a bit of a completionist, don't like spiders for some reason (i think theyre pretty neat), want to have a stress-relief game (or would it be stress inducing??), or want to see how goofy it gets

social moth - available on steam; heard of - a lot of my mutuals talk about and adore this game! i have not played it yet but it's wishlisted! here's a copy n pasted excerpt from the steam page: "Social Moth is a narrative platformer where you play as a small moth contending with social anxiety. Set in a close-knit community on the forest floor, the game allows the player to explore themes of mental health, relationships, and finding a sense of belonging."

i think i can suggest this game if you have social anxiety/want to understand social anxiety while also playing a puzzle platformer with an endearing art style and characters!

buggos - available on steam; heard of - ive had this game wishlisted for a while! here's a copy and pasted excerpt from the steam page: "Buggos is an RTS Auto Battler where you evolve your army into the perfect bug fighting force. You control a young hive mind bent on world domination, and your swarm will mostly listen to your every beck and call. Guide your swarm’s evolutionary path and breed your best bugs for world domination!"

i think i can suggest this game if you like the idea of world domination and slaughter, want a bug army building game, or enjoy pixelated style games.

i commissioned some bees - available on steam; heard of - did you know there's 10 of these games plus an advent edition?? these games are essentially just where's waldo bee edition and multiply those by like 1000. i've had this game wishlisted for a while but it hasnt been a priority pft. here's an excerpt from the steam page!: "The brief was simple. I commissioned artists to create a fantasy world, and hide as many bees as they can inside it. Now it’s your job to find them all! With 10 art pieces to choose from, and 1000+ bees, you will have a lot of searching to do."

bee simulator - website; heard of - i own the game but havent played it yet. the most ive done is watch markiplier play it hfkjsd. here's an excerpt from the epic games page: "The hive awakens as the sun's first rays warm the horizon. It's time to test your wings, receive orders from the Queen and begin your first mission. And that's just the start of your adventures. Humans want to cut down the tree that holds your hive, so your fate – and that of the whole swarm – rests on your tiny shoulders!" i think this game is more of an educational game aimed towards families and children but who knows! maybe some of you will enjoy it too?

i think i can recommend this game if you like bees :) and doing minigames/tasks/challenges!

black widow: recharged - website; heard of - an arcade shooter where you play a spider! i own this game but havent played it yet. here's an excerpt from the site: "Aim for a high score in the old school arcade mode and earn bragging rights with your name at the top of the leaderboard. Or test your skills and rank on the boards in one of 30 intensely creative challenges, which twist the gameplay in new and exciting ways. Collect cash from downed enemies to charge a powerful web blast, or pick up one of a dozen new power-ups including explosive blasts, spread-shots, and fear, trapping all enemies in your web. Every mode and level is playable in local co-op mode with a friend."

centipede recharged - website; heard of - i've played centipede in an actual arcade but it was not this specific game so i dont know if the experience is around the same. (i own it but havent played it) centipede recharged is similar to black widow: recharged in terms of an arcade shooter as well as the description given

empires of the undergrowth - website; played - an army building game about ants! in the "main zone", you're an experimental ant species that seems to be able to take on traits of many other ant species. you play levels as real-life ant species and try to grow your colony and complete objectives that are given to you. the rewards you get from these levels are used to upgrade your lab species and after completing a set of levels, you'll be given a challenge using the lab species. i havent completed this game due to being stuck on one of the challenge levels fhksjd but i think its kind of fun

i suggest this game if you like army building games (similar to starcraft or warhammer) and the idea of making a huge ant colony and competing against other colonies

yoku's island express - available on steam; heard of - there's actually a lot more places where you can purchase yoku's island express (epic games, switch, gog, etc.) but their website is down so i decided to resort to linking the steam page. i currently own the game but have not played it! it's a game about you being a tiny postman exploring around islands, delivering packages, while also making new friends and saving the islands where you reside. it's a pinball platformer adventure game and it seems really cute and fun to play!

earthtongue - available on steam and itch.io; heard of - this game actually just got recommended to me after this was posted! earthtongue is a game where you watch over a world inhabited by fungi and bugs. here's an excerpt about the game!: "You will spend most of your time watching life grow and eat each other to survive. Your subtle nudges will be required to maintain the balance of this world, but it can handle itself much of the time. Player given goals are limited, aside from maximizing the health of your ecosystem. You may choose to try to create a fungal garden to your liking. You may try your best to breed as many beetles as you can. You might use those beetles instead as food stock for the mantises. You might instead just peacefully watch the story of Earthtongue unfold on its own."

stonefly - website; heard of - stonefly is an adventure game where you control a bug-shaped mech! here's an excerpt from the site: "Harness the wind and soar through the wilderness of Stonefly, a chill and tranquil action-adventure game about self-discovery, legacy, and belonging. Glide your mech strategically among beautiful flora and dangerous fauna, confronting hungry bugs, adventures, and memorable characters."

to be released/in development games

hollow knight: silksong - website - the game that the hk fandom says doesn't exist and is actually a collective fever dream (it is 100% a real game, we're all just very excited for it to come out! /srs) the game is going to be like hollow knight (a challenging metroidvania) but this time the player plays as a new protagonist, who was a character in the first game, hornet! this game will have a new world to explore, new mechanics to master, new faces to meet, and much more.

bugaboo pocket - website - a really cute pixelated game about raising bugs! an excerpt from the site: "Bugaboo Pocket is a digital pet game where you raise bugs from egg to adult. How you care for your pet influences their personality and impacts the ecology around them. Inspired by real bugs!"

another crab's treasure - website - a game where you play as a hermit crab! you use trash in your surroundings as your shell and each "shell" provides a different effect that affects how you play the game! an excerpt from the site: "Another Crab’s Treasure is a soulslike adventure set in a crumbling underwater world. As Kril the hermit crab, you’ll need to wear the trash around you as shells to withstand attacks from enemies many times your size. Embark on an epic treasure hunt to buy back your repossessed shell, and discover the dark secrets behind the polluted ocean." (i recommend checking out their tiktok, some of the posts there are extremely funny)

dewdrop dynasty - steam page - a pixelated style metroidvania where you play as a gunslinging bee who lost their wings and finds themselves trapped in an unknown place. you'll meet interesting characters, challenging enemies, and also learn new skills and mechanics as you play the game. goodgis, dewdrop dynasty's dev, also posts a bunch of videos on youtube regarding game development tips and devlogs. (that's how my partner knew about the game and introduced it to me) a fun and charming game that will have mysteries to discover!

i am a caterpillar - dev's twitter - a game where you play as a caterpillar!: unbothered. slimey. thriving. in your moss. squelched up. wriggling. an excerpt from one of the dev's tweets!: "Become the squidgy lil' caterpillar you've always wanted to be, on a quest to stop your own metamorphosis. Crawl & wriggle all over anything in your path and explore the canopy."

a webbing journey - website - a cute 3D game where you play as a spider! you'll explore the world, making webs and slinging around on them. you'll also meet some friendly faces to talk to and do quests for them! an excerpt from the site: " You control a little spider equipped with all the typical spider abilities and a little bit more as you travel through various stunning islands searching for the most exotic flowers for your spider date. Along your journey you meet other spiders and animals who provide additional side stories and quests which challenge your spider abilities."

invertipets - dev's site / toyhou.se - a petsite game being made by @shadybugdev where you take care of bugs and bug-like pets! there's not much on it publicly available yet other than some pet concepts (which can be viewed through the toyhouse link!) but it's something to look out for!

honorable mentions

an isopod game(?) being made by riley neville (part of sbuggames/made webbed) - this "game" has not actually been announced to be a game that will be published but it looks neat!

a worm game(?) being made by riley neville - same thing as the previous one!

ive made a few of these bingo sheets and theyre fun so i decided to make one not just for e3 but also JUST for splatoon 3 (not just for e3 but for like the whole lifetime of the game). also heres my updated list of characters id like to see in smash, ordered generally by which id like more and/or think are the most realistic

since min min got in i took out helix, and since i couldnt decide whether to add in waluigi or madeline i added another row (realistically i dont think any indies are getting in but i threw some in anyway). also i was like “oh yeah maybe theyd put in a gen viii pokemon” so i threw in hatterene since thats one of my favorites.

also as for waluigi (and shovel knight for that matter) i think it would be nice to see an assist trophy get in just to break that rule. also i remember being super surprised he wasnt in brawl (back then i thought he and wario were equally important) and even though that was based on a wrong impression ive still felt like he should be in there ever since

really is about time for those n64 games, especially now that mario is dead so theyre free to release sm64 on it. game boy games would be nice sometime too

would also make sense to include banjo-kazooie in that, nintendos had a good relationship with microsoft lately and the total absence of anything banjo-kazooie on the switch is odd since it’s a dlc character (every other one has a game on switch they can use for cross-marketing, even if joker’s took a while) and i think the best explanation for that would be that theyre holding off for the nso n64 app (this is easiest from a technical standpoint because all they have to do is make a deal to use the roms)

when are they putting octolings in mk8d

xenoblade chronicles x is one of the only wii u games left that they could port (aside from ones that wouldnt make much sense like splatoon and ssb4) so i guess that might as well happen sometime. also monolith soft might be doing something else besides helping with splatoon 3

im not ready for metroid prime 4 (im over halfway through mp2 and therefore the trilogy as a whole) but it’s been a while, they might show it and it could even come out this year

hal apparently recently hinted at a new kirby game or something

the upgraded switch is obviously going to be called the Nintendo Switch ͥ since they already did the ds lite so theyre clearly naming everything in the family after the ds family, theres absolutely no flaw in this logic. idk if theyre showing it, but unlike 2019 they didnt say they werent showing new hardware (just that they were showing software, which could be taken as denying rumors, but they sometimes specify when certain things arent being shown)

metroid prime trilogy also might come this year. would make sense to release it before mp4 since not everyone is going to buy a wii u to get it (and at this point that doesnt get nintendo any money since they stopped making them)

where is detective pikachu 2. i hope it has the blue pikachu from that first tease they gave us in like 2014 (2013? that was a loooong time ago idk)

they said this was MOSTLY 2021 so i am absolutely getting my hopes up for splatoon 2

the two sinnoh games could likely be there

would be super cool if oddity came to switch. and almost as ironic as megalovania getting into smash

we havent seen the botw sequel for a couple years so we’re kind of due for an update on that

it’s ace attorney’s 20th anniversary this year so maybe theyre doing something. theyre already porting those games though so idk. maybe he’s getting in smash

whats with that watermelon mario render

i held off on watching a playthrough for ndrv3 on the off chance it came to switch and i could play a dangan ronpa game for real for once but it’s now been 4 years and we just passed the 10th anniversary of the series (albeit during a pandemic when i wouldnt expect them to have done anything) so it would be cool to see the series come to switch. i think if it still doesnt after this though i’ll just watch the playthrough, 4 years is long enough. amazed ive avoided spoilers this long, i still know next to nothing about the game

im about done with acnh but im still waiting on those splatoon items. and i ran out of storage in february so i need more of that too

nintendo did stuff for zelda’s 30th anniversary so i doubt theyre forgetting the 35th. maybe wwhd/tphd ports, idk

been a couple years since fire emblem, intelligent systems is probably up to something besides planning yet another paper mario spinoff

miyamoto forgot pikmin 4 in the oven 6 years ago and it got burnt to a crisp and thats why it hasnt come out yet because he had to start over

and splatoon

the inklings scared daft punk into quitting so now that theres no competition in the robot musician scene they should have a daft punk style group

i waited and waited and neither of my top two splatoon stages (flounder and d’alfonsino) came back in splatoon 2 so i hope just because splatoon 3 isnt in inkopolis doesnt mean they still wont return

would be sick as hell if there was a real hide and seek mode instead of just sticking to your own rules in private battles. havent played that since 2015 but it was super fun

salmon run doesnt make sense if youre friends with a smallfry but they could either change the story context (you just fight “evil” salmonids?) or replace it with an equally fun co-op mode

amiibo!!! i think i said this before but they should label them by weapons if these cephalopods dont have genders, would make more sense (the gendered ones had different weapons anyway)

returning characters!!!! would like to see everyone have a role of some kind

maybe #GearForAll wasnt successful in getting the emperor/spy/mecha gear, but perhaps theyll at least consider not making that stuff exclusive this time around

squid girl gear should be back. and they should call it a dress instead of a tunic because its a dress. and theres no gender now anyway

as ive said before... TRIPLIES!! you hold one in each hand and another in your mouth. and you can spin around like the tasmanian devil

remove splatfest tee annoyances: you should have a prompt at the end of a splatfest to pay to scrub your tee (to make sure you get the chunks) also it should be on a neutral brand so you dont end up with an overabundance of ink resistance up (or whatever else)

better online and cloud saves would certainly justify having a second splatoon game on the same console, as much as im loving that it exists

hopefully theres a global testfire again

sooner or later the workers will rise up and kill mr grizz

remember in splatoon 1 where if you had squid beatz (via the amiibo) you could “play” it in the lobby and change the music? then you were stuck listening to only bubble bath in splatoon 2? why did they take that option away they should bring it back

looking at those apartment buildings in the trailer i think it would be cool if you had your own room and could decorate it

an octavio redemption arc would be fun to see. in the manga he stole the zapfish because the octarians had an energy crisis, and in the end they worked out a deal to share the electricity

also this is kinda rambly but whatever

when it comes to shuraras motivations here, maybe he could have been another childhood friend of keroros. idk how they could have been introduced, maybe through pururu or just by meeting in school, but ig that part doesnt rlly matter. what DOES matter though is that shurara decided to tag along with keroro, giroro, zeroro, and pururu on one of their misadventures and he gets hurt during it. BADLY. pururu patches him up, and zeroro apologizes like crazy (since he knows how much this sucks), but shurara is left with a strong dislike of keroro and friends. except for pururu, who he still likes (but im not keeping the crush bc it serves no purpose here) and zeroro who he kinda forgives a little bit but just because he apologized so much. maybe this could have resulted in some major physical injury that affected how he lived for a while, or maybe it spawned a phobia, but either way it left an impact.

putata and mekeke are sent in first with the goal of beating up the platoon a little bit and taking the star because they are the most skilled team. shurara doesnt want the star because of some stupid bandaid, but he wants to take it in order to both deeply hurt keroros pride and also to potentially have his platoon no longer be officially recognized, taking away something that means a lot to keroro. they actually succeed in taking the keron star kinda. when they get back to base, they realize that the star is fake, its just a piece of fabric or paper with tape on it (like what happened in the original arcs ending). this way the shurara corps will be established as an actual threat and also the ending will have actual stakes.

gyororo sends word back to base that the keron star putata and mekeke got was fake, so giruru is sent in to ACTUALLY get the real star, as well as punish the platoon for embarrassing the corps like that. this one plays out kinda like the actual episode (bc im too lazy to think of anything else), but all that matters is that he still ends up captured.

after this, the platoon is like ok this might actually be serious so they go on high alert. one day dororo notices gyororo (who was sent in a little before putata and mekeke to scout the place out and gather info) bc hes the only competent member of the platoon and confronts him, outing his presence to everyone. gyororo fights back but he is also captured in the end.

after the platoon has captured giruru and gyororo , shurara plans to capture and torture a member of the platoon as revenge. before he can do this though, dokuku and nuii decide to rescue giruru and gyororo in secret. nuii serves as a distraction to everyone while dokuku goes to rescue the fellaz. theres some minor conflict but in the end the four of them escape. after that happens, shurara is furious about his subordinates disobeying him and doing things behind his back, but he keeps his goal the same.

im gonna change yukikis powers bc they kinda suck and hes confusing. anyways yukiki isnt actually a snowman, but hes the hat! kinda like in mario odyssey, you put the hat on anyone or anything, and it will immediately be controlled by yukiki. he was an experiment done to try to make a sentient object, and he got his name because he was first tested on a snowman (which also makes it the form hes most comfortable taking). anyways, shurara sends in yukiki to capture someone by taking control of them, but hes defeated somehow and returns empty-handed.

im also gonna change robobos powers a bit. with robobo i dont think that he should have the ability to turn people into electronics because thats dumb and doesnt make any sense, so im gonna give him the ability to just control other machines. he also doesnt have a giant form, and can switch his hands between their magnet form and their drill form. anyways, at this point shurara is furious and decides that he doesnt care about capture anymore, he wants the platoon dead. he decides to send robobo for the job because robots dont have the same margin of error that living things do, or at least theyre supposed to. turns out, they totally do bc robobo also comes back with a failure.

after this, shurara somehow lures the platoon to his base (just like in the anime) but this time everyone is waiting for them there in a big empty room together. shuraras disembodied voice gets a monologue like in the anime and the roof opens, lighting the room up because its a bright spring day. kagege then appears and takes control of the platoons shadows like in the anime! all of the shadows are used to fight the platoon, as well as the corps themselves fighting. its an epic fight, but just when it seems like the platoon is all gonna die, the corps suddenly decide to stop fighting. they all tell the platoon about how shurara has been acting worryingly erratic and obsessive, so they agree to spare the platoons life as long as they confront shurara. the platoon obviously agrees, and theyre taken to a holding area so that shurara thinks that theyve won. they give them this offer because theyre not personally invested in killing these nerds, they dont really care. they ARE worried about shurara though, seeing how obsessed with this hes become.

anyways kagege reports to shurara (in my headcanon hes like shuraras right hand man or something like that) and is like "we beat the platoon, but we didnt kill them. theyre our prisoners right now and were gonna torture them before we let you do the honors" and then shuraras like "poggers!!! thats a great idea!!" and then proceeds to drink his choccy milk and play minedcraft. meanwhile, some of the others are actually patching the platoon up and telling them what to do with shurara. they tell the platoon to try to hurt him as little as possible, and DEFINITELY dont fucking kill him, but just try to knock some sense into him and restrain him or something.

the platoon asks why shurara hates them so much and whoevers patching them up doesnt know, but kagege comes down soon after and tells them shuraras motivations. after this, some understanding can be felt by giroro and dororo (bc they were there, even tho dororo is the only one who remembers shirara like at all) and keroro feels kinda guilty but not too much bc head empty. later, the corps has a big celebration feast and shurara declares that hell painfully kill the platoon bright and early tomorrow. in all the commotion, nuii convinces gyororo to sneak down into the platoons holding cells to bring them some leftover food.

the next day, the platoon is brought to the same room that they fought the corps in, and theyre tied up. shurara is talkin abt how hes gonna kill them all super painfully and stuff but little does he know that the ropes holding the platoon are actually not secure at all (on purpose), so the platoon all escapes their bindings and a fight with shurara ensues. when the platoon is in a tight spot, one of the corps will show up real quick and help them out, kinda like a support in a fighting game. eventually, shurara is tied up and defeated technically.

shurara is whining and stuff and calling the corps a bunch of traitors, but the corps talk to him about how worried they all are about him and that this whole thing has gone too far (you rlly think these goobers are worth all this effort??). shurara says something about how keroro hurt him before, so he wants to hurt him and his platoon back. the corps are like ya i get that but killing them is wayy overkill no pun intended. keroro apologizes and maybe dororo can say something about how keroro also hurt him in the past but hes been able to move past that or whatever and shurara is like bro ur right and he starts crying like da babey he is lmao and there u have it!!! the arcs over and everyone is ok and happy!!! found family trope pog!!!!!!

Hi Im going to rant about nostalgia for a bit because im experiencing Emotions and I dont have anyone to talk to about it.

I think the memory that started this was this camp I went to when I was 12. It was in the middle of a quiet forest with about 50 kids from school. We had little cabins and a big area in the middle with a campfire. This was when I was first discovering that I was a lesbian and I felt so alone and scared and confused. We did an activity where we stood in a big circle, the camp leader would say something and if we related to it, we step in the circle. Everyone would hold up their hands and do the sign for “I love you” in sign language to show their love and support.

Anyways, this went on for a little bit, and then the leader said “step in the circle if you are part of the LGBTQ community” and I was like, oh shit thats me. I was so scared I didnt want people to know, I felt like they would be against me and I was so alone. A couple kids stepped in and after a moment of hesitation I followed. I looked around and everyone in the circle raised their hands in support, showing they loved me for who I am. I immediately broke down in tears, I really wasnt alone. I felt loved

That night we walked to the campfire around 10;00 pm, and people sang songs around the fire. I stared up at the stars, there were so many, I heard the fire, the singing, the crickets, the breeze. The girl I liked at the time came and sat next to me, we watched the stars together before returning to our cabins.

The next night we got on the bus and headed home around 7:00 om, and two hours in the girl I liked put her head on my shoulder and we both fell asleep the whole ride home.

Another thing I remember was the Halloween events we would have in elementary school. We would be there until around 10:00 pm which was so exciting because I was never allowed to stay up that late. Me and my friends dressed up, and we all hung out on the swings together. I did the cake walk and won a delicious angel food cake with strawberry frosting, and fell asleep on the car ride home.

I miss when almost every friday nearly in 9th grade I believe, my best friend at the time would come over and we would play super paper mario together, he had to play most of it cuz I sucked at it. We ate cheese dip and drank arizona tea. We have drifted away because he got popular and I somehow got less popular than I already was. I miss it a lot and I really hope he doesnt read this.

I miss two years ago, my brother and I began to become friends as I got out of my depression and we talked for the first time in at least a year. The first time we really talked was when we went camping and two moths got into the tent and I started having a panic attack. My parents didnt understand my phobia and he immediately came to my defense, he looked out for me the rest of the trip and he still does.

I remember being at my grandmas old apartment, we would sleep there every saturday and binge TV shows with her for hours, and then I would stay up half the night playing tomodachi life and octopath traveler. I went to see my brother in the other room, and he told me that he wants me to play kid icarus, he really liked it and thought I would too. He got it for my birthday and we started playing it together. He had to beat most of it for me.

We went to this hotel with my parents, and when we werent doing much we would sit in the room and play kid icarus together. We started developing inside jokes, we started getting along well, I always laughed so much around him, I felt like for the first time we were really becoming friends. I miss sitting in his room and watching him play outer wilds for hours. He let me play at first, but i couldnt stop crashing like a dumbass so of course, he had to beat it for me. I remember crying my eyes out at the ending.

I miss playing minecraft with him, he was pit and i was tressa and we mostly messed around. I miss playing stardew valley with him too, all he did was fish but it worked. I miss playing raft with him and some of his friends occasionally, i miss playing octopath traveler with him. for once i had to beat the game because he sucked at it, sorry dude.

I dont know, Im listening to minecraft music and just really miss this. Maybe its because everything is so shitty right now that I wish I could go back to these happier, simpler times. But even if things are fucked up or not, I wish I could experience those again. I think I miss a lot of people that used to be in my life, it almost hurts to look back at, but at the same time I’m glad I experienced these things.

I think I’m scared for life to go on.

but yea, if you want my opinions on the paper mario games, here they are

i haven’t played paper mario 64 yet, so i cant say anything about that

i can totally understand all the love ttyd gets, it is really kinda that perfect mario rpg thats fun with unique characters and a big story with real weight to it

except i do really love super paper mario more because that game was my childhood and it had a much more grander and personal story than ttyd had, even if that did mean stripping the more traditional rpg elements away from that game to make it alot more palatable to gamers more traditionally accustomated to platformers

sticker star and color splash are fine, obviously, i dont really hate those games. ive never played them (i only played through the beginning of sticker star), and color splash can sometimes get broken, but as far as i know, these games arent as bad as TTYD elitists make them out to be

the origami king not only looks really good, but i have heard both sides on the arguments about the origami king, as you can see in my blogs bio. i havent played it yet, and im planning on getting it sometime soon, but from what i heard, the origami king might be the best paper mario game in this past decade of paper mario games (excluding the paper marios of the 2000s)

No one asked for it, but here's my RPG experience

Final Fantasy

I've played the first seven, but I use the term "played" loosely. After all, I've only finished the first two and really only enjoyed the first one. I dont know, something about these games just lose me when I try to play them. I really want to give 4, 6, and 7 another chance and I'm dying to play 9, I think I'll like that one. I may also revisit 3, but I think I'd rather do NES than DS... lastly, Mystic Quest actually looks fun to me. Idk, I know it's not a true FF game but it's always intrigued me.

Dragon Quest

Love this series. Finished the first 6, played some of 7, 8, and 11. Loved most of them. Mixed feelings on 2 and 6. The only one that I didnt really enjoy much was 7, which is why I'm playing 8 now despite not having finished 7... I do want to come back to it.

Chrono Trigger

Played and finished the DS version. I might catch some flak for this I think the game is just okay. Frog kicks ass, couldnt tell you most of the games plot points. I'd like to replay it someday.

Super Mario

I played every Mario RPG until Sticker Star and Dream Team. Have no plans to try Color Splash or Paper Jam. Super Mario RPG, and Bowsers Inside Story were my faves. Obviously they left huge impressions on me.

Pokemon

I was a very loyal fan until recently. Gen 7 mark's the first time I couldnt finish a Pokemon game and might end up being the last one I buy. I enjoyed gen 1, 2, 3, and 5 a lot, and they left pretty big impressions on me, as they did many. But I think I've had my fill.

Earthbound

This ones pretty special to me. I played all 3 games back to back, and replayed them all a few times. I'll never forget these games. That's all I'm going to say about that.

Magical Starsign

Picked this one up for dumb reasons. And because I recognized one of the characters from Super Smash Bros Brawl's trophy collection. I dont remember a thing about it other than it having a weird art style and unconventional characters. I dont think I'll ever finish it.

Contact

Another game I picked up for dumb reasons. Another game I could scarcely recall the plot to, other than the cute pixelated scientist man and his dog on the upper screen, and the mindfuck ending where the protagonist becomes sentient and tries to throw rocks at the player... I also remember the start up being rough as hell.

Kingdom Hearts

I played KH1 and KH2. I remember fun action RPG gameplay, and fun Disney fan service. Couldnt tell you a thing about the plot other than it being an incomprehensible word salad. I think I'm ok not playing any more of the series.

Mana series

I played a lot of Secret of Mana, but I lost interest at some point in an inn run by a mushroom creature I think? I dont remember the plot in the slightest. I do remember the menu bein the most unintuitive menu I've ever had to navigate... I also played Secret of Evermore... I remember this one much better but I still abandoned it in the pirate area because it has the same damn menu system.

Tales of

I played Tales of Symphonia to kill time while waiting for the release of Super Smash Bros Brawl. I remember liking the gameplay and graphics a lot but I cant say I remember the plot... here's what I do remember. "Demon fang! Demon fang!" "Titans! Go!" "Dwarven Vow!" Pinching Genus's nose in his sleep for some reason. Yu-gi-oh voice actor. "Yoog-drasil." Lloyd got punched by his dad in front of his friends. I think there was a dog thing? Zelda 2 style overworld.

Undertale

I think this is one of the most creative and fun RPGs with a great cast of characters, a unique idea for a battle system, and an emotional story that I'm going to remember for a long time, I hate what meme lords have done to its reputation..... I haven't played Delta Rune yet, though I downloaded it ages ago.

Skies of Arcadia

One of my all time favorites. Encounter rates can get tiresome though, and I'm not a fan of the hidden "reputation" system, or certain bosses leveling to match you. But this one made a huge impression on me. It's never too moody or serious, but it's also not a total clown show either, it's just the right balance in tone for me

...and thats it. I was considering trying out Breath of Fire on the SNES online once I'm done with my dive into Dragon Quest. Theres actually a few things I may have missed on this list... this was not a good idea, but I spent my time writing this so I'm not wasting it.

Nintendo Switch saves Valentines Day

Can you believe that we are almost half-way done with January? Maybe it’s just me and the countless hours I put into reviewing the latest titles for the Nintendo Switch...which is our focus point that can change the tide if you hit a hard spot this V-Day. Maybe you don’t have enough money for that dinner, movie and gift. Maybe you thought that restaurant you made a reservation at is more expensive than you though. Maybe you just started a new relationship but you still have some awkward silences that seem to kill the mood. Whatever the situation may be a Nintendo Switch can get you to second base and home plate...trust me.

So let’s look at some of the titles for switch that are great to play with that special someone. (Games are listed in no particular order; games are not based on “)sales”; Games are mainly hidden gems)

1. Monopoly | 9.5 out of 10

Hear me out. I was one that grew up playing the original board game with my family and the overall appeal of the game was astounding, but I lost interest when I got older and noticed how long it takes to make everyone go bankrupt. ...but this is something...otherworldly. The first awesome thing you will notice when you pick up this title is the use of the Joy-Con controllers to shake the dice and throw them. Though this is still the same mechanic in spirit as its predecessor but with the newly animated boards populated by Mii’s and watching a living city grow as you play and add properties adds an entirely new respect for Money Bags. Our team lost track of time having so much fun with this one and before we knew it, we had seen 5 hours pass. (No one wants to play Monopoly for that long.)

2. Uno | 8.5 out of 10

Uno is another one of those games I grew up playing with family. When I purchased the game, I was expecting some sort of controller mechanic similar to Monopoly’s dice...but with cards instead...but I was let down. None the less, going into this, I didn’t even know that there were so many ways to play Uno besides the normal rules. Once again, I was amazed at how much more fun this was than the physical cards themselves. Rules like “Stacking. Where Player 1 can play a “Blue Draw 2″ card and Player 2 can counter play a “Draw 2″ card as well. ...but if Player 3 doesn’t possess a “Draw 2″ card, Player 3 then has to pick all 4 cards from the previous turns” was so exciting to try and there are many other ways to customize rules and play styles.

3. Super Smash Bros | 9.0 out of 10

I really don’t need to go into detail about this one. My only issue with the Smash series is I would really enjoy a multiplayer adventure mode or campaign. I was quite pleased with the full roster of characters though. Disclaimer: Make sure your partner isn’t a sore loser. We all know about SSB’s steep learning curve for beginners. “Don’t be a butt...”

4. Diablo 3 | 9.0 out of 10

I remember having this title on my old PS4 and being able to enjoy it on my PS Vita while I was in a relationship with someone who liked the game as much as I and we would both take our Vita’s to the restroom with us so we could keep the experience going. This title can definitely be used to understand the mindset your partner has by the way they customize their character and the actions they take in response to events. It’s a top-down action-adventure-role-playing-hack-n-slash (inhale.) It is a port of it’s original released on PS3 & 360...the price tag is still $59.99. That’s a deal breaker in my book.

5. NES Emulator | 7.5 out of 10

I honestly chose this one because of how many gamers I know and how 89% of them are males. This is something for those who don’t game to get their feet wet. The emulator is free on the eShop for a 7-day trial but comes with a subscription cost after. Pretty inexpensive for the titles they have. Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros, Metroid, and many more. It even comes with special versions of some of the games which gives the player the experience of playing with Game Genie cheats.

6. 99 Vidas | 7.0 out of 10

Your probably thinking, “ Why is this even listed?” Well, just in case that partner your with doesn’t dig the 8-bit look or the low-res adventures of the NES Emulator and desires a little more action and has a fetish for Streets of Rage and Beat ‘em Up’s. Simply. The available characters are cool enough to get players to find a favorite out of them. ...so...that’s good!

7. Oh Sir...The Hollywood Roast | 8.3 out of 10

After seeing the Samuel Jackson clone named “Bad MotherHugger” who’s personality is totally canon, I had to dig deeper. If you didn’t play the prequel, you don’t need to. I honestly only used the first title to learn how to play. In this installment, you and a co-star face off on a movie set where your scenario is to insult the other the worst. It plays like a fighting game, complete with health bars, special insults, tag team insults and so much more. For the price it is, I was expecting something way less entertaining. Oh, and one point or another you will joke against a Deadpool copy...a less funnier Deadpool but funny enough.

Consider this the American version of The Office.

8. Oh Sir...The Insult Simulator | 7.8 out of 10

Obviously, this is the European version of The Office. I won’t say this is better than the sequel and I can’t say it’s worse either but I will say “I am an American...” What this game does is teach you how to layer your jokes and how lay the foundation for repetition in your topics to create combo’ s. I like to let the opponent bombard me with little weak jokes and build a super mean and super long insult that grants victory for only one joke. I call it, “The Kamehameha Effect!”

9. No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Back

The third installment to the series hits the eShop and retailers in a few days and I am super excited to get my copy. If you aren’t familiar with the series, let me fill you in:

Travis Touchdown is the protagonist of all three games. In NMH1 we find Travis at his lowest moment in life. Jobless, hopeless and drunk, he runs into a mysterious woman who offers him employment with a sketchy syndicate group he knows nothing about. Luckily he had lost all his money by winning a bid at an online auction for a Beam Katana, his main choice of weaponry. Not long after, you find out you were hired as an assassin in a shady game by her higher-ups. Travis takes the job after being promised some passionate TLC if he can take out all 10 of the already top ranking assassins all over the world. Travis is a pretty simple guy. He likes mecha anime, luchador wrestling, old school video games, porn, sex, and sleeping on the toilet.

In NMH2, Travis finds out that after becoming the #1 ranking assassin in Santa Cruise, he finds out that he actually has hundreds of more assassins in a new ranking system where Travis is the lowest ranking.

This time around, Travis is joined by the father of one the assassins he killed in NMH1, and the co-op option is something that would have been outstanding to have in NMH2 but none the less the developers always deliver great content in their titles and this one will not disappoint. Couples will enjoy the kinky nature of the series for sure. It has been proven many times.

10. Broforce | 9.5 out of 10

Every wanted to play Super Mario Bros on NES but with guns? Ever want to change Mario for, let’s say...any huge action movie star from the 80′s, 90′s, 00′s? Ever wanted it to be a co-op experience with up to 4 players with local and online co-op? As a mercenary for the USA, you are sent to 3rd world contries to liberate them from the evil control of Satan and his hell spawn. Before that, you will have to fight through waves of kamikaze soldiers, war dogs, giant helicoptors, aliens (...from the movie “Aliens”) and much more. Along the way, you will recruit an entire cast of badasses. From Rambo to Robocop, you will find Chuck Norris, Neo, Blade, Bruce Willis, Terminator, Preditor, Machette, Michelle Rodrigez, The Bride (Kill Bill) & so many more including Mortal Kombats Raiden.

Very easy to pick up, very hard to put down.

11. Nidhogg 2 | 8.0 out of 10

2D-Side Scrolling Fighter. You start of with a sword. When you die, you respawn with a dagger. When you die, you respawn with a bow and arrow. Die again and respawn with an ax. Die again and respawn with your fist. This cycle will continue until you our your opponent makes it to the opposing end of the map. Maps are relatively small and consist of about 2 to 3 different frames. Sounds easy on paper right?

Tons of laughs to be had!

12. Tales Of Vesperia

If your looking for an in-depth RPG you both can play while she sits between your legs and you both focus on the Switch screen laying in front of you: this is for you two. The co-op system usually only functions when you enter battle. Player 1 will always be the one running around the world map but this is still fine if you keep an open-mind and communicate on decisions that impact the story and more. (Keep track of your own money.)

side-note: All Tales games are co-op in this sense, even the Super Nintendo picks.

13. Harvest Moon: Light of Hope

I’ve been a Harvest Moon fan since Super Nintendo and got my first copy on the N64. I know a lot of people see this game and hate the thought of a farming simulator but unlike it’s counterpart with the same name-sake; Harvest Moon is so much more. This can easily tame the craving for an adventure-rpg-dating sim with a very rich story and characters that actually grow on you. I have not had the chance to play this particular version yet, but I saw it was multiplayer and that sold me. If you want to try a good yet cheaper version, Harvest Moon: Back to Nature is by far, one of the best, next to Harvest Moon 64.

so heres the long super paper mario post

strap in for why super paper mario is fucking bizarre and why that’s pretty much awesome

gonna be a good amounts of spoilers, so if you’re on desktop then hit that read more, and if your on mobile, then here’s your punishment for using this god awful app

super paper mario is a game that is incredibly difficult to put into words, but it leaves such a powerful, lasting impression on me and i can’t come to say anything first other than I love it so much, and if you havent played the game, please just go do it now, even if you have to pirate or emulate or something, just let yourself play this game. It’s one of those games that I really feel I can just recommend to anybody

it’s difficult to think of where to start with dissecting this thing so i’ll just start with the art since lookin at things is pretty easy

ART/WORLD DESIGN

every world in SPM is completely unique, not just in what type of environment, but it’s art style, and this is premised with the fact that none of these worlds are capable of existing together and are completely separate, and NOT part of a cohesive universe (LOOKIN AT YOU ODYSSEY I STILL THINK YOU LOOK STUPID)

The hub and the first 2 worlds are mostly just slight variants on the same general style of simplistic shapes and colors, with world 1 delving into more linework type aesthetics, and 2 focusing more on impressions and silhouettes,

world 3 changes this completely with what is obviously an 8 bit kind of style, but instead of jarring over sized pixels, the world is composed of detailed tiles arranged to look like pixel art that imply a more real world, and not a gamey one,

world 4 focuses on patterns and big patches of color to give the impression of the vast emptiness of both space and the surface of a barren planet, before giving you the “Whoa Zone”, with a striking mix of wire frame and futuristic UI style to it

world 5 takes the idea of nature being crude and simplistic and humanity being sharp, angular, and extreme and flips that on its head, with humanity and the space they occupy being these absolute memes with no sense of depth, and the plant life existing in a system of clean cut caves with futuristic technology and elegant historic values

world 6 simplifies a kind of colored Japanese painting aesthetic, down to the funny cylindrical cloud clusters and brushstroke trees

world 7 depicts what is essentially hell (yes there’s hell in this game keep your pants on) as a squarish blur of bright greens and warm reds and purples, and depicts heaven as fluffy land of clouds and Greek temples

and lastly, world 8 is inverted greyscale, where light is black and darkness is white, its simplistic and striking and i couldn’t think of a better style for the final area of a game so focused on the concept of light and dark

MUSIC

I’ll just try and keep it simple, the musics fucking cash money

The game makes great use of motifs when it needs to, where specific themes and instruments are used in other songs to suggest relationships and put battles and travels into perspective

And when it ISNT doing that, it’s just fucking funky stuff, with a weird trend of BOING and PLOP and SPLISH noises in the percussion because fuck you i guess

There’s a lot of good songs that do lots of interesting things, any of the like 5 final battle songs are great things to point to, but i’ll just go ahead and say the main theme of world 8 “Castle Bleck” is one of my favorites that isn’t super highly rated. It brings in the types of instruments that have been associated with the villain the entire game, but also throws in 2 very important things; a sudden triumphant burst of almost JRPG styled chiptune that pushes away the constantly building tension, which is then followed by the sound of a clock ticking, which is a musical motif only present in the songs “Memory” and “Promise” which is played whenever the memories of the player’s little guide thing and the main villain’s past lives together are alluded to. This one song holds a lot of weight, as well as simply being a fucking cool song.

GAMEPLAY

This is, sadly, the one place I’ll not mince any words and say the gameplay is not amazing by any standard, it’s pretty much a classic mario game if it had RPG stats, items, and random abilities granted through the character and partner systems. The 3D flipping mechanic is nothing astounding, though it is very interesting to see how worlds are constructed

One of the biggest flaws people will mark the game for in its gameplay is that it’s tedious, and while I have to agree, that’s because I’ve already played the game before, and the tedium only comes from not being completely invested in the experience anymore. I’ll get some specific examples in a bit, but there’s a few cases of “tedium” that i believe are 100% intentional and drive the story in an interesting way

STORY/WRITING/GAME DESIGN

Thats a fuckin broad section, but its pretty much everything else i have to say on the game, and where the most spoilers and random praise is gonna be

I’m not actually gonna talk about the whole story, more just the strong parts of it, under the assumption you’ve already played it or understand a story as simple as “villain wants to destroy world, hero wants that to not happen”

The writing and characters are just flawless, everyone is fun to be around, especially the bad guys, who you see more antics of than your own party. There’s goofy running plotlines about O’chunks and mimi essentially getting grounded and being forced to write essays about why they fucked up at beating mario, and big stinky brother dimentio teasting and bullying them and sneaking them out to do his bidding when The big Count Bleck is away

The game is full of referential humor to not just mario itself but all kinds of games, there’s skeletons in hell who are clearly just Marios from the mainline games who died in stupid ways, there’s an actual dragon quest turn based boss battle in hell too, and chapter 3 has an otaku villain who tried to get with peach in a simulated visual novel

but the humor exists not just in references, but in simple good scenarios, with things like “Having a game show in a bathroom when everyone's life is at stake” and “locating an ancient manuscript to use as toilet paper” or “flying through black holes to find a convenience store” and things of that nature

It also interacts with the players emotions in many interesting ways, one of the more lauded being chapter 2-3, where mario is forced into working off a massive debt of fictional money, and is required to do hard, boring labor. There isn’t anyway to avoid doing both the hitting a block 100 times and the running on a treadmill for a few minutes thing, but the constant feeling of “there has to be a faster way to do this” drives the player to prod around, find the secrets, and slowly discover how to break the system wide open and get to the end, and i love it for that

This entire game is some sort of bait and switch, to put it simply, while it’s already a bit of a departure from both mario itself and the paper series, the first 5 worlds are pretty fucking tame stuff, other than the void, which is a giant black and purple spot that sits in the sky, always, every single world has the void growing in its sky, and it does grow, every chapter it gets bigger and bigger and takes up the sky, but where this truly culminates into the “switch” part is chapter 6, which starts itself by presenting you with the most TEDIUS sounding chapter possible, fight 100 enemies in a row, and nothing else, and for 25 straight fights, that is all it is, so you’ve locked yourself into it at this point, you know whats up, but the void in the background begins to grow to the point of being the entire fucking background, and every enemy you face speaks as if they know they’re all going to die, and by the 30th fight, one of the villains comes to stall for time as the void completely swallows the world, and the party is sent back to the hub. When they decide to go back in to world 6, its empty, the entire world is a white void with a single black line making up the ground, and colorless destroyed structures occasionally peaking out of the ground.

and you walk on this white void for so long and you just feel nothing but regret and fear and no matter how fast you make yourself go you feel like you’ll never find anything, but you do eventually get your plot item and escape

then, Dimentio, one of the villains you’ve seen the least of, appears in the hub world, the safest place in the universe, and kills mario

he just fucking kills him

he puts mario in a box and fills the box with explosions and mario fucking dies and goes to hell because fuck you mario

then you go through all of chapter 7 just to escape hell (called the Underwhere cus how could we possibly be allowed to take hell seriously) and join up with your full party before confronting the final world, which i’ve already stated i just love the design off

the game just takes the comfortable ride you’re on and throws it into the fucking sun and burns you alive and i love it so much, even the very end of the game doesnt let up, where the main villain is overtaken by that absolute madman Dimentio (Whose name is a play on both Dimension and dementia), who clearly was powerful enough to have done the whole “ending of the world” himself, but did it this way for the theatrics of it

there’s a lot i could still say about the game, but this post is absolute rambling and its 2 in the morning but as usual, i just wanted to shit my thoughts onto the internet to people could maybe learn somethin about either the game or me and how i think and look at and respond to stuff, and as always, anybody who read this whole thing is cool and i love you a whole heck of a lot

okay i’m stuck at work for an hour and a half and i’m fucking bored so. here’s all my kin memories about tippi from my non-canon super paper mario tl i guess since it’s on the brain.

Okay so when Francis found Tippi I was home for the day and just kinda hanging out - we hadn’t started dating yet at this point and I was DEEP in the unrequited crush sauce, Francis went out to look for butterflies to raise because hehe special interest go brrr. When he brought Tippi home and showed her to me he genuinely thought she was just, your standard new species of non-talking butterfly. So Francis started infodumping, and being all excited and doing those happy hand flap things and I just sat there, falling ever deeper in love with him as one does when Tippi spoke up, kinda lowkey interrupting him but really politely and everything. Poor Francis looked like he was going to faint and I started freaking out thinking that we accidentally messed with the fae and were going to get our shit rocked. After the initial panic and I had managed to convince myself that she was just, a normal butterfly that could talk somehow we agreed that we couldn’t just like, keep her indefinitely since, yknow that’s a sentient ass being you can’t just Do that shit right ? But we couldn’t just let her outside because we had fucking, praying mantises and spiders and shit in the yard and there was a good chance she could wind up getting caught and eaten so we kinda collectively decided that she could just, hang out until we figured out how to both release her somewhere she’d be comfortable and taken care of while preventing her from getting eviscerated by another bug or a bat or something. She was only in the castle for like, maybe a week? And the entire time she was there she had to deal with like, two stupid gay nerds that are mutually pinning for each other but are too dumb and nervous to come forward. I think Francis told me that he had talked to her a little bit about how I was making him question if he was attracted to men or not and I know for a fact that I mostly didn’t say anything about my shit until this one day I was just deep in the feeling like shit sauce, got day drunk on wine, and started sobbing to her about how Francis could never love me back because I was ugly and how I’d started having weird gender shit and poor fucking Tippi had to try to rationalize with me and console me until Francis got home after I’d started coming down a little bit and came to my room to check on me cuz he hadn’t seen me all day and thought I might’ve been sick or something. She pretty much had free reign of the place but Francis did have one of those little butterfly hutch things set up in his room for her to sleep in or when she wanted to get away from us. She was generally pretty polite despite, yknow not really wanting to be there and all. I do assume that she probably didn’t like either of us much though. and yeah thats about it. i do know the boss fight still happened but I don’t know much about the context because I was in the other room when it happened so I only have some idea of how it all played out. I still feel bad for how I kinda accidentally made her babysit me while i was drunk at like 2 pm because I was sad about wanting to kiss a fuckign lizard

This one time, my best friend gave me drugs.

I've never really been into drugs, I've smoked weed a few times but it just made me super tired so I have at no point went out of my way to take anything stronger than regular painkillers.

I was 18 years old, working at a bar 50+ hours a week for an extra £20 on top of my benefits. I know now that my employer was taking advantage of my work placement, but back then I thought that it was normal.

I walked home at about 3am one morning after a 14 hour shift to find my best friend(Lisa) sitting outside my house in her car. She said that she couldn't remember which bar I worked at and her phone was dead, but she wanted me to go to her boyfriends with her so she had support to break up with him.

He had gotten her pretty heavy into drugs and I knew she was struggling to end things with him for that reason. She had a lot of issues and I was trying to do the best thing for her and just support her through it, which I now know was enabling, something I have since learned made the situation ten times worse.

We drove to her boyfriends and his best friend was there as well. Lisa and her boyfriend left the room, I assumed to talk, while his friend was explaining whatever game it was he was playing. I was trying to listen in to their conversation so I wasn't paying attention until he asked if I'd ever taken Molly. I said no, and went back to ignoring him. A minute later he handed me what looked to be a balled up rolly paper and told me to swallow it. I said no thank you and set it down on the table. He shrugged and went back to his game.

A while layer Lisa comes in, smiling and happy and sits beside me on the sofa. I'm confused but her boyfriend has come back in so I cant say anything in front of them. She asks what we were talking about and he says, "I was asking if she wanted molly, but she said no." She gets super excited and says I should try it, that I'm too wound up and it would relax me. I again say no, so she shrugs and lifts the balled up paper and swallows it.

Its maybe an hour later when she asks again if I would take some. I'm exhausted and don't want to argue anymore, plus she seems fine so they had me another balled up paper and I take it. Nothing happens. 20 minutes later, I still feel fine. They tell me I have to snort it if that didn't work. Against my own better judgement I do. Again, nothing. Another 20 minutes go by and they give me more. All of a sudden it all hits me and I feel amazing.

We talk shit, enjoy our night, play games, listen to music, everything is just totally chill. I forget how tired I am and the breakup that obviously never happened is gone from my mind.

Its a little after 10am when Lisa says we have to go to her work friends for a few hours, because she promised him she'd visit. I dont argue and just get into the car with her. She only took the one paper thing so I think she's fine, she isn't even acting like she's been effected at all. We are about half way down the motorway when she giggles that she can barely make out the road. I start laughing as well, although there's a little voice in my head panicking.

We make it to her friends (stephen) and there were no issues getting there. We are in his living room when she goes to the bathroom. He asks, matter of factly, if I'm gonna fuck him. I laugh and say no, he's totally fine with that and asks if I want to try out his bong. The weird, random question is gone from my mind and I end up saying yes to the bong.

Lisa comes back from the toilet, she takes a hit as well and then we watch TV. At some point I go to the kitchen to get a drink and Stephen follows me, grabs me and tries to kiss me. I push him away and he looks super confused, as, I'm sure, do i. He storms off and goes back to the living room and I follow in a few minutes later.

I ask Lisa when we're going home and she says later, she has to bring her dad to the airport and she starts getting up to leave. She tells me to stay here for an hour then she'll come back. I say no, I'll just come with her and she tells me her dad will know I'm high, so no. I dont really have a counter argument for that, so I just sit down and she leaves me alone with Stephen who won't even look at me.

We sit in silence, watching the TV for over an hour. I'm ringing Lisa and her phone is going straight to voicemail. He makes some snide comment about him not being what I was "expecting". I tell him I have no clue what he's on about and he tells me to check my texts. I still don't understand and he stares at me for ages before he looks furious and shows me his phone.

There are dozens of messages from that morning/ afternoon, the person he's talking to saying how badly they want to fuck him. I'm high, my brain is barely working so I still don't understand.

"You sent me these." He says. I tell him I didn't. He starts to argue, then stops, looks at his phone and obviously realises something is going on. He asks for Lisa's number, because at this point they only ever talk on whatever messanger everyone used back then. I show him her number and he's absolutely livid, she said it was me in the texts.

I feel like a weird, awkward weight has been lifted off my shoulders, I'm not scared of him anymore, she was messing with him and thats not his fault. I tell him I'm sorry she was doing that to him, but that explains why we were both so confused about what was going on. Everything relaxes and we end up smoking more.

Its maybe 3 hours after Lisa is supposed to be back, we still haven't heard from her and I'm the highest I've ever been in my life, I still don't feel like the molly has fully worn off and we are sitting next to each other on the sofa, playing Mario cart if I remember right. He starts touching my leg, I tell him I'm too high to be messing around and he rolls his eyes and tells me what's the best way to fuck. I laugh it off but he keeps touching me and I dont stop him.

One thing leads to another, ill not get into it, but we end up having sex. It's awkward and uncomfortable and I honestly still don't know if I had wanted it.

When Lisa eventually comes back, she's laughing that she fell asleep in her car, as if it hasn't been over 5 hours since she said she'd be back. I say bye, lift my stuff and head out to her car. She stays inside for about 20 minutes while I sit in the car texting my mum telling her I'm heading home.

Lisa gets into the car, drives off and starts asking me what happened. Its only then that I remember the texts she sent and I start basically telling her off, saying she put both of us in a really awkward situation and she was evil.

She thinks it's hilarious and we drive on in silence for a minute before I tell her we had sex. She's silent, then after a while asks how high we were. I said I was pretty high, not sure about him. I confess that I wasn't really into it. She's silent again, right up until she drops me off. She says bye and thats it.

I go to bed straight away, mum laughing at me for getting so drunk and promising to make me food when I feel up to it.

Its days later, I've spend two days on a come down that made sure I never wanted to try anything ever again when Lisa ring me, telling me she broke up with her boyfriend. I tell her I'm happy for her. She says she is too, because it means she can finally tell everyone that she's with stephen. I'm shocked to say the least. I remind her what happened with me and him and she laughs, tells me she'd planned it to see if he would cheat on her but then couldn't blame him since they weren't exclusive.

I hang up the phone and don't talk to her, promising myself that I'd never have anything to do with her again, but that was a lie. I was weak back then, she was my best friend and she used me in such a vile way.

She did so many other things against me in the years after, I will probably get to that at some point.

In my house, my mom has one of those creepy glass skulls filled with vodka. It used to be right in the middle of our dining room’s cabinet on a little pedestal thing but now she put it in a cabinet thANK GOD.

In my room I have this Targaryen lamp thats like, a piece of thin glass with the family sigil in it and it lights up from below but it needs batteries :c

aaaa so i finished super paper mario! (the story at least) and i loved it!! only a few things bugged me, but they’re small things and idk it was really fun and i loved the story aaaaaaaaa

im gonna go over cons first bc ye

cons:

paper mario REALLY doesnt seem to care abt his bro??? for all he knew, luigi, along with peach and bowser sacrificed themselves so that he could continue and he’s like ‘oh well lmao i’ll grieve later’ ??? DUDE im personally gonna fight paper mario

none of them actually said anything abt luigi being mr l the whole time like???? did HE even know, do they EVER tell luigi that he was used by dimentio to make super dimentio??? does that affect him?? does anyone help him through it??? being brainwashed and made to fight the people you love and then later being fused with a madman and the chaos heart has gotta take a toll right??? do you think he has nightmares??? i need to know!!! let him have therapy and hugs and work through it!!

speaking of, why did they never explain WHY luigi was the perfect host for the chaos heart??? bc he’s powerful?? bc he’s so good and it needs a counter??? why not mario or peach or bowser??? or did dimento just choose luigi to fuck with him like??? again I WANT TO KNOW MORE TELL ME

this may sound kinda cold but the sammer’s kingdom SHOULD HAVE STAYED DESTROYED like the whole point of that chapter is that is shows what the void will do to everywhere else if count bleck succeeds??? and bringing it back literally shows that they could have waited for nearly every world to fall, and then just did what they did to save everything?? idk it kinda cheapened it for me like walking through the sammer’s kingdime when it was just a void gave me chills it was EXCELLENT

similar to the sammer kingdon, if u go back to the overthere, you find luvbi alive again?? and they don’t even explain why she even says she doesn’t know how she’s there?? again, that’s kinda lazy and cheap, and im not going back to the overthere, so she’s staying dead in mine lmao, why does this game build up these really deeply sad moments then go back on them?! i get that it’s a kid orientated game but STILL stop taking these deep moments and wrecking them??? like in the end the actual only character thats fucking dead is dimentio (maybe?), like i was just asking for the sammer kingdom and luvbi to STAY THAT WAY (i mean...n my mind they are, like the story of the game is essentially finished, i think they just re added the things so that kids wouldn’t be upset?? like everything post story is kinda non canon sooooo

pros!!:

luigi gets a big role and i LOVE IT

speaking of...mr l has such an excellent design i need to draw him???

peach is kicking ass and taking names i love her

all the villains and npcs have great designs and are v interesting

bowser is fucknig hilarious

count bleck and tippi is an actually sweet compelling, interesting het love story like that’s one in a million for me iM

i love dimentio bc he’s evil and smart and cunning and fun and dangerous HOW EXCELLENT

i love anything where villains and heroes team up, so bowser being there is great, and that bit at the end where even count bleck, nastasia, mimi and o chunks are with ya?? v good!!!

level design is bright and lovely, even underwhere it LOOK SO COOL

lovely hub world!!! filpside and flopside is so good aaaa

the pixls are adorable and i love how colourful and cute they are

getting to stomp on a creepy objectifying nerd’s head multiple times as peach was extremely satisfying

speaking of, francis’ fort is so funny especially those bits where it’s like ‘my first love was an anime character’ and ‘i love going on message boards and complaining about games i’ve never played’ GOD

characters talking together without it being abt mario!! peach and luigi being happy to see each other/concerned for each other!!! good brotp

bowser, for all he knows, sacrificing himself so the others can go on!!! he and o chunks wanting the other to leave so they dont die and arguing abt it! that scene was so funny aaaa

i nearly cried at the end when tippi and count bleck were gone but they were together and happy

o god the luvbi thing!!! that was the most emotional thing ive seen in a mario game since we heard abt rosalina’s mum being dead (which was then kinda ruined but we’re ignoring that)

random observations

that bit where mimi taunts peach abt her ‘boyfriends’ like no..hon.. luigi is gay

i found nastasia in flopside after everything and she sounded so sad and it made me sad i hope she gets to be happy

i still can’t get over that one person in merlee’s mansion who was like ‘you make me sick’ holy fuck

is o chunks supposed to b scottish i hope so

fuck those weird slug spring things (cursyas??) ESP THOSE GREY ONES THAT SEND U BACK TO THE FLIPSIDE MID LEVEL
