just finished my people of earth rewatch (my GOD, what a cliffhanger!!!!! WHY!!!!! tbs, you took this and wrecked from me and i hate you. 😭), and i really appreciate how djenks's shows are very ambitious narratively within the half hour comedy format. like, having a half hour comedy that is also telling such an engrossing, high stakes genre story is just so refreshing and complex and so cool and WHY WON'T SOMEBODY LET HIM TELL THE WHOLE STORY ALREADY

Ask Bo 3 times if he needs to go potty and he tells me no all three times. I get him set up watching paw patrol so I can do a 10 minute zoom parent teacher conference, go into the office, 1 minute later he’s crying at the door that he needs to go potty. 😅
On a positive note, I had a great parent teacher conference with her teacher. She’s meeting all benchmarks and is doing well socially. She says she had a bit of an adjustment period when she switched to the class and would cry when she didn’t know how to do something, but that she’s settled in and is now comfortable just asking for help. She can give instructions on independent work and Clara will just sit down and do it.
It’s so interesting how kids with the same basic upbringing can just be so different. Because Clara is meeting academic benchmarks, but not necessarily exceeding. So she’s totally fine academically, but compared to Waylon it’s just such a different ball game. He’s always been beyond exceeding academic expectations, but his ability to focus is always the big discussion point. So Clara is doing fine with her assessments, and is a model student. Waylon absolutely blows the assessments out of the water, but absolutely cannot focus for the life of him. Which in a way makes me feel a bit better, just because I feel like there’s a lot of self doubt when you’re dealing with an ADHD kid. Like, am I just failing to teach him how to act? Do I just need to work more with him on figuring out doing independent work and paying attention in class? But the fact that Clara has absolutely no issues in that area is a bit reassuring in my parenting abilities, that it’s not just some failure on my part. I’m interested to see how Waylon’s parent teacher conference goes next week, because his tend to be interesting. His teacher this year has been decent with him, so I’m not super worried. But also, she’s not quite as accommodating as his teacher was last year. But that’s hard to meet, his teacher last year was just the PERFECT match for him. She loved and embraced his quirks and I couldn’t have asked for a better teacher.
