thought this needed to be shared on its own since the sweeney team have decided to edge us with releasing the cast album

this is from the second night of previews, february 28th. i gifted the full audio here, and shared a clip of the final sequence here as well

(more notes on the clip + the production under the cut)

after the verse about the beadle, annaleigh ashford attempts to swing onto the table and misses twice, before succeeding as the audience cheers. it was really funny in the moment and played into the vibe of the song as both ashford and groban continued to crack up. this seemed to happen on more than one night during previews from what i've read, which had me suspecting that it was a planned break-in a la the music man revival. but outside of previews i haven't heard of this happening again, so they could very well have just had difficulty with this bit during the first few shows. either way, the audience couldn't get enough of it. it was just amazing to hear this whole sequence live after only ever watching the movie and concerts (where the audience volume is significantly reduced). there was just the most contagious laughter at all the right moments, and it makes me really upset in hindsight that this number was butchered so much in the movie

so much to say about ashford and groban's performances in general. they clearly have so much fun with these roles and they do this particular number such justice, in my opinion. their visual comedy is just on a whole other level, and it really let the material shine along with their vocals. some people have criticized ashford for her accent/general characterization of mrs. lovett, but i'm so obsessed with what she's brought to the role. her lovett skews younger and, to me, she offers a mix of the iconic actresses who have taken a stab at the character before. others have had things to say against groban being cast as sweeney, but i personally enjoyed him very much, and he's of course at the top of his game vocally. this production plays things pretty straight and doesn't do anything super imaginative with the staging, but it really lets the actors performances shine

as a general note for the whole show, maria bilbao absolutely kills it as johanna, john rapson as the beadle makes parlor songs into one of my favorite bits of the show, and i want to print a little picture of nicholas christopher's pirelli and keep it in my wallet. gaten mattarazo is a great tobias, ruthie ann miles's beggar woman is as entertaining as she is soul-crushing. though he's since departed, jordan fisher had amazing chemistry with maria bilbao and his anthony was very sweet. jamie jackson as judge turpin was everything you could want out of that character, though i really really would've loved to see mea culpa here. i think the judge in this production especially feels a bit empty without it

this revival makes the weird choice to remove the factory whistle, which really takes away from a lot of the drama and overall makes it feel less sweeney-esque. although, i did read that they were maybe having technical issues during previews and added it back in later? but i watched/listened to some bits after opening and didn't hear it, so... still must be noted

despite some general criticisms i'm just so obsessed with this show, it's amazing to have a full staging of it on broadway once again and the 26-piece orchestra still has me in a chokehold. i highly recommend seeing it if you can!

Pretty sure I've talked about this before but now that I'm done with the National Treasure AU fics, I'm moving on to Sorcerer's Apprentice which is one of my favorite Nic Cage movies. This AU has also gotten me in a chokehold so we'll see how long it takes me to finish this one. We're already at 5 pages and 2,207 words and we're about twelve minutes into the movie

Rip to my lil Hedgehog, you were only here for a short while but you were the real MVP

“Chessboard daddy” (as some people have taken to calling him, fitting) YOU SUCK.

Uncle Porsche, absolutely not. I would’ve punched you into oblivion but clearly Porsche has more self control than I do.

Kim. Get your act together. Also, why is this the first we’re seeing him actually attend this school lmao. Like idk I just kind of forgot he was even a student at all. Love that for you babes. Juggling between stalking the love of your life, mafioso living, being a pretty well known superstar and attending THE music institue must be hard. Doesn’t give you a reason to treat Chay like trash. You suck today. 4/10

Kinnporsche. Boyfriends that plot murders together, stay together. The lovey dovey stuff is still cute, but it probably won’t last much longer…uncle Porsche and Chessboard Daddy are here to crash the honeymoon party right on time… ANYWAYS they love each other so much it kinda hurts 😩.

Porsche with them trust issues again. Like I get it. But Kinn wouldn’t do anything to hurt you baby. And I find it really funny that Kinn’s been the one vocalizing that he finds it hard to trust people, yet he’s more trusting than Porsche seems to be.

PETE PETE PETE PETE PETE PETE. I can’t even express how much I love this guy anymore, like the words aren’t wording. He is that guy. He really looked a crazy man in the eyes, called him a psycho then proceeded to allow him to get even crazier. Love that for you babes. Like really.

Vegas is such a sad character, like I don’t personally sympathize with him cuz he’s kind of awful and hasn’t done anything fully redeeming yet but gosh he’s one troubled soul. Poor kiddo. No one should have to lose people the way he has his entire life because of things so completely out of his control.

VEGAS X PETE. I honestly wasn’t here for it at first because of Vegas being shit and Pete being an Angel but girlllllllll the way these past few weeks have had me in a chokehold. Vegas thinks he’s the ring leader, but Pete is the puppet master bro. Pete being the reason we got ALL of the beautiful moments this episode…he carried hard and he deserves a good back massage when he gets back to the main house.

I miss Khun. I miss him so so so much. I miss his little movie nights and his absurd outfits that somehow worked. I miss his hysterics and his dynamic with Porsche and Pete. I can only hope for some Tankhun x Chay moments because I miss my subtly wise older brother 😭😭😭

seriously, aside from writing and gaming, making playlists is my one true passion so i can defs give you recs. here's five random songs i've really been into:

today by q — sounds like it came straight from the 80s. strictly a good vibes song. really good for night drives imo.

runnin' by the pharcyde — arguably my favourite 90s rap group out there. labcabincalifornia is such a good album but this (and drop) are for sure my faves. also, if you like music videos definitely watch the mv for drop because it's so good and was actually directed by spike jonze!

suicide doors by blk odyssy — blk vintage: the reprise is another really good album but this song is definitely my fave.

sympathy by too close to touch — a little change in genre from the others but oh my GOD. this song hits me in the feels and the vocals are just so good. as a pop punk kid growing up this really feeds my teenage soul. <3

the summoning by sleep token — THIS FUCKING SONG HAS HAD ME IN SUCH A CHOKEHOLD it's literally the sexiest thing i've ever heard, like genuinely the last minute and a half makes me feral and i stg sleep token will most likely be my top listened to artist on spotify this year because of it.

i'm also gonna rec some loki songs; all of which can be found on this playlist because i'm a whore and whenever i find songs that remind me of him at all i throw them on there.

sexy villain by remi wolf — pretty self explanatory, hehe.

time moves slow by badbadnotgood & sam herring — this is the song that started the playlist. mostly it just reminds me of how loki's constantly leaving; opting for a life of solitude, and ultimately how much harder it gets each time he disappears. originally it was the inspiration for a tva!reader x loki fic that had some major severance vibes i had going but like always i got distracted and switched projects.

they don't want by electric wire hustle — when i tell you this song is MY loki song, i mean it. i swear, just listen to the lyrics and you'll get it.

trouble by cage the elephant — another self explanatory one. loki's always getting into trouble.

laughing on the outside by bernadette caroll — as someone who's obsessed with movie/tv scores, my dream is that one day marvel uses this song for loki.

1. jane eyre / this novel got me into reading, writing and studying literature so I’m eternally grateful for it. jane is a badass. she will not be caged. also rochester is an asshole and doesn’t deserve her.

2. bucky barnes (marvel) / I’m not into marvel that much anymore, but bucky will always have a special place in my heart, he is such a fascinating character and I will eternally love him and devote my soul to him. even my dad knows him too well (he took me to see civil war and i cried a lot) protect him at all costs. also fuck me up long-haired red shirt civil war bucky

3. jesse pinkman (breaking bad) / have I ever cried more tears for a fictional character? i dont think so. I couldve put anyone from this show (hANK SCHRADER???? MIKE?????? GUS???!?!! SKYLER???!?!?!!!!!!) but jesse... yeah. he’s my broken little dork and I still weep for him regularly.

4. joel miller (the last of us) / that goes without saying....w tf..... joel miller has had a chokehold on me since 2015 and he will never leave me. the tears I wept. the hURT I have felt. he is so special to me and his voice, his actions, his very being has influenced me to the core. I could write an entire thesis on this man.

5. elizabeth bennett / has a more badass mf ever existed in media? no. I think not. lizzie is the mvp. her and darcy are the originals. i dont care what you say.

6. jack from marrowbone / those who haven’t seen this movie just watch it... you’ll never be the same. what the fuck. I’m still not over it. wtf.

7. violet baudelaire / my role model as a child. I wanted to be 14 so bad for so long because I wanted to be violet. she’s a star. now she’s like my child. forever in my heart.

8. fred and george weasley / they come as a pair ok fight me.... but those two. oof. their writer is a piece of shit that deserves the worst but gred and forge deserve the best. I will never forgive and I will never forget™️. they were also the objects of my first official fanfic which gave me confidence in writing so yeah. they’re my soulmates. a part of me will always live above weasley’s wizard wheezes. ♡

9. rengoku (demon slayer) / I know this must be a ~mainstream~ choice or whatever but I don’t care. the imprint that he has left on me. him and tanjiro remind me of the importance of kindness and I have embraced it fully since.

10. kaz brekker (shadow and bone) / I really hesitated with inej but kaz. that boy. that character............ I will always vividly remember reading him for the first time. like oh. OH. oh. And it was too late

11. kang sae byeok (squid game) / I saw this girl and I knew... I knew we were going to have silent conversations. her portrayal. her vulnerability. her strength. she is it.

12. opie (sons of anarchy) / I havent even finished watching sons but .... fuck.... FAVORITE HELLAVERSE CHARACTER(s)?~

Husk. I fucking love Husk. For more than one reason, I could talk about him all day. I really do enjoy his personality, I’ve always been a sucker for the harsh exterior personalities when they truly are just caring, broken souls within.

Stolas. My birdy babe. 😭. I seriously want things to go good for Stolas, Blitzø too. Stolas is such a flawed character, but he’s trying, and that’s what tugs my heartstrings. He tries.

Lucifer. ON THE TOPIC OF DEPRESSED FATHERS. “Take that, depression!” Lucifer is my spirit animal, for fucking real. I love him, so much. I love that he cares for Charlie, and that he wants to help his daughter achieve her dreams.

Millie. I would’ve added Moxxie to this list, but I have mixed feelings on him after Happy Campers. But I do adore Millie, mostly because I relate to her.

FIZZAROLLI. Because who doesn’t like Fizz. I fucking LOVE 2 Minutes Notice, and I love that he was able to fight back against Mammon. I’m happy that oh I’m and Ozzie are so healthy for a couple in Hell, and I’m so happy that our king of Lust has helped nurse Fizz back into health.

Sir Pentious. The man stays winning, seriously. I love him so much, and I totally adore him and Cherri. I’m so sad that their time was cut short, but that single kiss was enough to keep me satisfied canonically. Twitter and Tumblr can do the rest..😭

out of minhyun's dramas, I've only watched alchemy of souls (that drama still has me in a severe chokehold idk how I'm surviving without it)

seongwoo's dramas,, I've watched moment at 18 (it was a sob fest it made me go thru a fuck tonne of emotions) I dropped more than friends a few eps in bcs it was slow for my liking and bcs ong's character reminded me of this dude I was in a situationship and it was making me hate his character 💔😭. I've watched seoul vibe and it was a really fun movie (with some violence but his character is a lovable goof in it so 🫶🏼) there's another drama of his I watched halfway through (I still haven't dropped it, I just got invested in other dramas) idr the name it was smth to do coffee idk it's on netflix.

and yes!! I didn't know he was going to be in 20th century girl!! I couldn't even let out a shriek bcs I was with my students so I had to conceal my excitement
