hii, might i recommend checking 'don't pick up boyfriends from the trash bin'? it's a bl qt which explores some themes that imo are rarely explored in qt genre. the side characters from each worlds are given their own story and character development, and the mc is always respectful and sympathetic toward the person whose body he's occupying (smth i've rarely seen in qt). sorry if this is too presumptuous of me, or if you actually have read it, you can just ignore this
You May Not. I’ve heard it’s good tho. a while ago one of my pals was telling me how it ruined all other quick transmigration for them because that’s what they started out with. for anyone who wants to check out qt tho this is a good starting point

So I got me the physical Volume 1 of Berserk today (I would have gotten 2 and 3 as well but they didn’t have it), and rereading the first chapters, why did I forget that Puck can feel the emotions of other people?

Elves that live forever: -_-
Elves that will live forever except the ones who die of mundane shit such as cancer, starvation, dehydration, bacterial or viral infection: >:-D sickos.jpg
And elf society where ppl eat and shit and fuck and there's 1 rich moisturized thriving elf wizard-philosopher for every 500-1000 elf subsistence farmers who have pre-industrial human rates of things like child mortality and malnutrition
Elves portrayed as actual people with their own civilization, basically. So many portrayals of elves are like "imagine a society where the 1% is actually the 100%, and magic smooths over all of the problems that would arise in a society that was actually like this! What if the eloy weren't an allegory, they were just beautiful perfect people and also we got real orientalist about how civilized yet Other they are"

and here's the lore dump, since im assuming your answer to the previous ask was "yes" (actually, this is lore dump part 1, and is pretty much just about her early childhood, family, and the town she grew up in):
so, let's start out with the basics: Cynthia LaFloren is a half-elf, born in a backwater farming town with a name i havent thought of but its probably smth really vanilla and vaguely european (currently liking Wyndellwood), to Elfmom LaFloren and Humandad Lastname (both placeholder names)
so the thing about elves is, they live a long time. half-elves? not as much. cynthia grew up in a society built by and for people who live over 3 times as long as she does, and who age 5x slower than she does. the elves born in the same year as her would still be in diapers, learning how to walk by the time she's already enrolled in magic school at age 8 or 9.
this, as you can imagine, is extremely alienating. she literally outgrows her friends within the space of a year.
Elfmom realized very early into raising cynthia that she was going to outlive this child, and it fucked her up quite a bit. as a result, she alternated between being very warm and loving, almost to the point of being smothering (making the most of the time they do have), and being cold and distant (trying to avoid getting attached and spare herself the future pain of losing her daughter)
so. uh. yeah. mommy issues pogchamp!!!1!
also, cynthia has a sister she's never met: Dazel LaFloren, full elf, who'd already grown up and moved out to a city called Cithril before cynthia was even born. Dazel wrote home every couple months, but never came back to visit, and works as an archivist's assistant.
(this is actually a fun little in-joke for me- dazel lafloren was a wizard character i made and never used years ago, and when making cynthia i used that original name and concept as a starting point, and it seemed fitting to include her in cynthia's story.)
Humandad is an involved parent, and does care about cynthia a lot, but struggles to relate to or connect with her in any meaningful way. (he spends a lot of time out of town anyways, doing trade and working in the fields and whatnot)
so yeah. cynthia grows up too fast (in terms of elf society, anyways), and almost entirely isolated from her community due to it. she hears stories of the White Consuls, thirteen wizards who are incredibly magically powerful, and are revered as national heroes because of it, and thinks, i want that. she hears stories about her sister, from her mother and from the other elves in the community, fondly reminiscing about the shenanigans dazel would get up to, and how proud they are of her for training in magic at the Cithril monastery, even if she did drop out, and thinks, i want that. she sees Elfmom (an Exclave elf to her core) highly revering magic and those who practice it, and thinks, i can be that.
And so, at age 8 or 9, when she has the chance to enroll as a student at the Kabar Taj monastery, to leave her family and her home behind and learn magic and possibly be apprenticed under a White Consul, maybe even become one one day? she takes it with pretty much zero hesitation, regardless of how dangerous it is.
Oihgggghhhg you have no idea how much I like this, the combination over attachment and cold indifference from her mom makes me foam at the mouth, I was hoping you would do something with the aging thing, it’s one of my favorite things about half elves and in one of my dnd places I’ve made that is a hybrid city there’s a section specifically for half elves who have nowhere else to go because of not fitting in with humans or elves, so obviously I’m a fan djsbdjh
That makes a ton of sense though with the aspiring to be a powerful magic person, like your whole life you’re ostracized, and this is the one way maybe you wouldn’t be looked down upon, but you don’t fit in there either it’s so aaaaagaggahdhdhrhrhgh
I do really like the name wyndellwood and the filler names for the parents are very funny to me, and I love the callback to an older character of yours I love when people do that sort of thing

I understand personal preference and that some people just don't like ships with men, and that's ok! but I'm annoyed at the implication from some fans that labru has less depth as a relationship than farcille or any other wlw ship in dungeon meshi, and the idea that people are only shipping it as a joke, or because they're horny, or because they're misogynistic and don't want to look at female characters, etc etc. I've seen people call it like, "bloodlust obsession that turns to horniness" and it made me realize that the people who don't ship labru don't understand their dynamic at all. labru shippers didn't just pull this out of our asses lol
a lot of the story around kabru involves how he and laios are perfect opposites of eachother. NARRATIVE FOILS, if you will. everywhere kabru thrives (social interaction, charisma, the surface) laios completely fails. and everywhere that laios is most successful (in the dungeon against monsters) kabru keeps getting killed. not only that but their desires are mirrors of each other too: laios grew up bullied by humans and wanted to become a monster, kabru grew up dehumanized by his villagers and then the elves, so he wants to affirm his identity as a human being.
despite how kabru should be repulsed by laios due to his hatred of monsters, he's drawn to him instead. kabru spends the entire story trying to get to laios to talk to him and to get to know him. firstly he knows laios is closest to defeating the dungeon lord and needs to sus out if he's a good person, but he admits that he really wants to be friends with laios too, not just to determine his virtue but to see what value laios sees in monsters. he wants laios to share his interest in people, he wants laios to be interested in him back. kabru never had any true bloodlust or desire to kill laios, he was prepared to go that far if laios wasn't a good person, but once finding out that he has good intentions kabru spends all his energy trying to help laios instead. and when you consider that kabru spent his childhood believing he was half monster because of how he was ostracized in utaya, his curiosity about how laios could possibly love monsters feels so much more personal.
and for laios, he's not used to anyone taking an interest in him. people are constantly telling him he's weird, and the person he believed to be his best friend told him he couldn't stand him. he misses falin so dearly because she thinks he's the coolest man on earth, so meeting someone and being told "I hate monsters but I still want to know YOU" would have an impact on him, I think. in postcanon they become good friends, kabru becomes laios' right hand man to help him with more of the dicey social aspects of being a leader. laios asks him to stay by his side and help him, and kabru says "yeah, that's what I've been doing this whole time"
I wouldn't claim that a romantic relationship between them is CANON, but I wouldn't even say that about farcille either tbh (and I love farcille just as much so don't come for me lol) this isn't a comedy crackship that yaoi fans just made up. laios and kabru are really multi dimensional characters and they're made to reflect eachother in every way, even down to their physical design. so it's not out of nowhere that people ship them

Dungeon meshi is a story about autism. To me. I didn't realize it until I watched the show, but Falin was Laios' link to other people. The friends he had were mostly friends with her. She translated the things he tried to say into words that were less abrasive, more caring and conscientious. The entire manga is about one autistic guy finding out exactly how vulnerable he is without his advocate (who is equally weird by the way, just in a different manner) and painfully, slowly learning how to make connections on his own. It's not that he's cured by the end, because that's never the point. But it's not an accident that the people who told him he was dense and seemed to hate him and assume the worst (what if he wants to turn everyone into monsters?) all rallied behind him and his strength of character at the end, and it's no accident that he walked up to the elves, said exactly the right formal words to get them to leave Marcille alone, and then retreated to hyperventilate. He learned more scripts! His greatest wish was to be around monsters and that didn't make him any less determined to save his sister also! I love it. His story hit hard in several places, and he was not punished for the things that made him who he was.
