I’m trying to figure out if I’m autistic so had a couple quick questions-
Is it possible to subconsciously script? For example, I consciously script what to say when I show up to an appointment/anything I should bring up/etc. But I don’t consciously script a whole conversation for small talk that inevitably happens. I don’t think about it in the moment if it’s a short back and forth (longer is a different story), but I’ve realized that I tend to say a lot of the same things that I had purposely memorized in the past (short responses like “it’s no problem” or “take your time” etc). I figured those were polite things I’d picked up/learned over the years but I’m not sure if, in an autistic setting per se, this could be subconsciously masking after actively trying to memorize in the past?
And that goes into my second question. I see a lot of autistic people online say they constantly analyze a conversation as it’s happening. If a conversation goes on for a while, then yes, I do this (and get overly aware of eye contact/body language/etc). But short-term, I usually don’t overthink it as it’s happening besides a couple stray “why did i say that” or “i rambled too much there” after I say something, and can maintain eye contact etc without thinking about it for a few minutes before I get uncomfortable and start timing how long and when I should make it/how my body should be positioned to look like I’m listening.
Sorry if this doesn’t make sense! I keep going back and forth about it, and since autism is such a broad spectrum I really can’t tell what would count as neurotypical or neurodiverse. Like I feel like a lot of the traits for me are “sometimes” and not “all the time, constant” so that makes me think I’m not autistic. But I also very much don’t fit in with people, which could also just be anxiety and neurotypical social awkwardness.
In any case, I really like your blog because it really makes me think if I relate or not, and either way I’m learning more about autism. So thank you for sharing your (and posting others’) experiences!

i agree with you that the subconscious scripting is simply just go-to’s that has been put into your brain enough times for it to stick
as for the ‘analyzing conversations’ thing, i am the same way with becoming hyper-aware of my expressions and physical reactions (especially with eye contact) only after a few minutes of conversation
it’s like there’s a timer of the amount of time i can stay fully in-touch with the person talking to me, and once it runs out there’s nothing i can do to stop it
also, i know i’ve said this a few times before, but considering that you are autistic—and considering how autism essentially affects you in every area of your life,—basically everything you do counts as an autistic trait or behavior
and when it comes to whether you relate to certain autistic traits or behaviors, i guarantee you that a lot of these things that you don’t think you experience, you probably actually do, but it’s so subconscious that you aren’t able to recognize the similarities just yet

No, you're absolutely right! 😃 I was told to reach out to him about a week ago and was asked if he could have permission to use my "Neilstarion" drawing for his Streamily and for prints at cons for people who want to get something signed, but didn't bring anything themselves. To which I of course said yes!
Even though I had said it wasn't necessary to compensate me, Neil really insisted that he did, which is super sweet of him. But yes! You're right indeed 😊 I'm not sure if other prints will be added besides mine though, but I suppose we'll see. I'm very excited!
