Sixteen. Yes I am still a noob especially writing for a very old fandom.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Almost always unless something happens in my life that takes me away from ao3 for awhile. I love connecting with readers, it's the best part of fandom and I have met some of my best friends this way.

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

There's two and it is up for debate.

The first is Quasar-- Mass Effect. It ends with Shepard taking that breath after the destroy ending

The other is Walking in the Airless Dark- TLOU, a 900 word oneshot about Bill and Frank's last moments, in Bill's POV, remembering their beautiful life together. I cried writing it. Whoops.😂

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

For Doctor Who, probably When the Chaos Calls Me Out. It was very angsty for most of it and the ending is tooth rotting fluff with Rose rejoining Thirteen in the TARDIS after a very satisfying cameo from someone...COUGH...while still able to connect with her family in Pete's World

For Horizon, since my enormous wip is far from being done, it would be Orpheus, a short fic with five relatively short chapters where Aloy stays for one more night, and she and Seyka spend it hunting down the dinosaur figurines so that they can play Dino Digits...although they lose interest in the dinosaurs progressively through the fic.😏

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Sometimes. I remind people I do this in my free time as a hobby so nothing is going to be perfect.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I do. I like to say the 'E' in my E rated stories stands for "Emotional Smut" 🤣 so my smut is very hot but also vanilla, heavily focused on feelings.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Nope but I want to write a Horizon/Doctor Who one

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not really but I have seen a few instances of people using specific things I came up with, that apparently became their headcanon. I don't mind that.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Not that I know of

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No but I would like to maybe, if it was with someone whose style aligns with mine

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

It has been Doctor/Rose for years.........buuuuuuut it's been bumped by Aloy/Seyka, but only slightly. I love my girls, they're so gorgeous together.

15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

The Dream of Atlas. It was my first fanfic, so my style was a bit all over the place and I didn't really know what I was doing.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Probably a combination of imagery and feelings? I think?

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

DIALOGUE. It takes forever!!

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I've already done it!

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Doctor Who

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

My current WIP and obsession, "The Space Between the Stars" closely followed by "When the Chaos Calls Me Out." I am very proud of both of them and constantly surprise myself when reading it later like "Oh hey I wrote that! That's not bad..."

Summary: The Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler’s quest for a small alien invader results in a few unexpected revelations.

Notes: An entry for the Fangirlia Doctor Who Fictober 2021. This story is based on the first prompt “Leaf Pile”. Other prompts have niggled at my imagination, but only in a HUGE multichapter kinda way, and I don’t think I have time or mental energy to commit to something like that at the moment. But the month is young, and I feel more inspired to write recently than I have done in MONTHS, so who knows…?

Oh, anon! Thank you! I’m so glad you like the dribble I translate into words ☺️

I’ve been meaning to do a long fic actually, I just end up getting far too distracted by other ideas that I end up scribbling down into one shots. Any ideas for a long fic, people, send them my way!

I’m going to put specific recommendations under a cut, because I have a few. Before I go ahead, though, I just want to point you in the direction of the following authors here on Tumblr (some of whom are mentioned below!) who inspire me as a writer, and you won’t be disappointed if you were to click on any story they have written! Some of these authors only have short fics to date, but still, we can never have too much love and promotion for writers and these writers are gorgeous ♥️

Anything these guys post, it’s an immediate click from me because I know I’ll just love it. And it’s great, because you end up getting exposed to things you never thought you’d love.

That said, below the cut are long stories I often go back to! I won’t give a lengthy review of each, I want you to just go and ready them (that, and my reviews would be various forms of sobbing that don’t translate all that well over text).

**If anybody can help a loup out and add any further suggestions, please do!! Recs are not my forte because I’ve been so dreadful at keeping track of my faves... I should really make a rec list. Oh boy!

Time Not Yet Lost by thebaddestwolf (14 chapters, Explicit)

After the TARDIS falls into the pit on Krop Tor, one of its room's timelines is thrown off, giving the Doctor and Rose a sketchy glimpse into the future. At first glance things look grim, until Rose decides they can put the room to good use after all.

This is one fic I always think of when I remember fics that made me so invested. It’s so emotional, so moving, and just leaves you with a sense of completion. Love this one!

But Broken Lights by rosa_acicularis (11 chapters, Teen)

She brushed her hands across the console, then leaned into it and sighed. Home, finally, she thought, then snapped her hands back as if the TARDIS had burned her.

“For now,” she reminded herself firmly, out loud. “Home, for now.”

Oh god, HOOKED. That’s what I was on this, it’s just written so well and so compelling.

Time Will Tell by lauraxtennant (30 chapters, Mature)

Reinette is aboard the TARDIS. Or, I should say, a hopefully slightly more historically accurate Reinette is aboard the TARDIS. How does this affect the Doctor, Rose and Mickey? How long will she stay?

This is SUCH a good what-if fic, if Reinette had come along with them after GITF. AN ACCURATE and not-a-total-cow Reinette, that is — what a rare find!

Chasing the Aurora by Elialys (26 chapters, incomplete, Explicit)

Rose refuses to leave the TARDIS on Bad Wolf Bay, travelling back to her universe with the Doctors instead, where she hopes to resume the 'carefree' life of adventures they had before Canary Wharf.

After years apart, and with two Doctors instead of one, that's easier said than done.

No words, really. This is the story we all wanted, never got, and now finally have. Elialys does such a fantastic job of making us feel all the things for both Ten and Tentoo, which again, is rare in fan fiction, and each chapter really packs a punch with feelings and story.

To Make Much of Time by Chocolatequeen (41 chapters, Teen)

The Doctor thought he’d removed all traces of the Vortex from Rose, but there was still something of the Wolf about her. What would have changed if he’d been forced to face that–and if Rose had understood what she was becoming?

A series 2 canon divergence fic starting with Tooth and Claw and following the changes through Doomsday.

So many twists and turns, a really interesting concept that actually delivers. An amazing read!

The Contingency Plan by gingerteaandsympathy (11 chapters, Mature)

The button that will take him back to himself. The contingency plan. The failsafe. The button he designed after Krop Tor, in a fever of fear and fatalism, to make sure Rose would never be unreachable.

The Time Lords had done this sort of thing before - folding time together, sustaining paradoxes so it was possible for multiple versions of the same person to interact.

After all, there was only one man for the job. And it couldn't be him.

Well, not exactly.

I honestly wouldn’t even know where to begin with this one. It’s fantastic, and it’s both Nine and Ten! The writing is extraordinary, and the story is so bloody good! This one is primarily Nine, and Ten only shows up towards the end, so if it’s exclusively Ten you’re looking for, then I recommend Coming Clean and Follow the Tide by the same author. One chapter each, but still, incredible reads.

Forever With You, Forever With You: Part 2, and Part 3 by harmony88 (currently 79 multi-chapter stories, Mature)

In a post Doomsday AU, Rose and the Doctor are still together, but still dealing with the trauma of almost losing each other. Then comes a night in 2056, where they have to go undercover to investigate a mysterious reading at a gala in London. That leads them down a rabbit hole of other adventures, and they find themselves giving into desires more and more, and ultimately work to figure out how to spend their forever together.

A collection of episodic adventures that all connect together into a larger story.

This series is absolutely wonderful. If you want Doctor-Who-esque series, whereby the stories are like episodes that all link in to a larger story, this one’s it! The characters (and original characters!) are so true and fleshed out, I guarantee you’ll love it!

Chemical Potential (and the follow up, Chemical Reaction) by HiddenTreasures (lastbluetardis) (AU, 12 chapters, Teen // 22 chapters, Explicit)

Slightly homesick and stressed about her abysmal chemistry grade, Rose Tyler meets quirky James Smith, the boy who sits in front of her in their chemistry class. They become fast friends as James makes it his personal mission to help Rose get through the semester.

I’m adding this one here, because this is what I mean when I say you can find things you never thought you would like to be something you considered a favourite. AUs are not my thing, at all, but lastbluetardis writes these characters in another universe so true to the original ones, and with such interesting premises and impeccable writing. The Catalysis series is one of those stories I wish I could have a first time reading again — even though I go back to them, nothing can beat the first time you read it!

Perchance to Die by lostwolf (13 chapters, Teen)

Set immediately after the Season 2 episode A Girl in the Fireplace. What happened between GitF and Rise of the Cybermen to convince Mickey that it was just the Doctor and Rose? After all, the Doctor had abandoned Rose to rescue Madame de Pompadour. Something changed. What was it?

Absolutely incredible. So gripping, I remember reading this one ‘slowly’, as in, one chapter a night as a treat. It was hard, because you’ll want to smash through this, but it holds a special place in my heart!

Mind Over Matter by LN29 (38 chapters, Teen)

The Doctor has walls that he can never let down, no matter who he's with and how much he cares about them. But when those walls are destroyed in the most brutal way possible, can he bring himself to trust on a level he's never had to before? And as she finds herself more alone than ever, can Rose Tyler do the unthinkable in order to save them both?

I can’t write what it is exactly I loved about this, as it really isn’t normally my thing. But it’s so gripping, and I found I just couldn’t put it down. So much emotion and love felt between the characters, and it’s another one of those fics that I’m glad I tried, in the end, because I think about it often!

Nothing to say here other than these are my comfort fics, the ones I go to when I just want a good cuddle from the internet. Love these so much!

When Rose Tyler was little, she always wrote a Christmas wish list to Father Christmas. As she grew older, the wish list became more of a letter to someone she could confide in once a year, but she fell out of the habit somewhere along the way. Now, as a new mum, celebrating her daughter’s first Christmas, Rose takes up writing her Christmas letter to Father Christmas once again.

Rose’s Christmas letters are excerpts from her life with her beloved Tentoo and their children in Pete’s World, written once a year, for each of 31 years.

OK, these are great! I was a little hesitant about the letters to Santa format, but they’re actually great! The letters build on each other and you get both an overview of what Rose & the Doctor’s life in Pete’s World could have been like, but also some brilliant up close moments, ranging from laugh-out-loud funny to almost heart-breakingly sad moments.

Top 5 Fics

@sherl-grey tagged me to do a list of my top five fics. Thanks for the tag, darling! 💜 I wasn’t entirely sure if this was a top 5 kudos’ed or my top five favorite that I’ve written, but I’ve gone with the latter 😄

1. Catalysis series -- This series (currently just two stories) grew into something I didn’t anticipate. At first, it was just a fun little college AU that I wanted to play around with, but as I started writing Chemical Potential, these characters took on a life of their own and really guided the story. Then with its sequel Chemical Reaction, I had anticipated it to be a short little ten-chapter thing to guide me through their courtship, but once again, James and Rose took the story in a very different direction. I hadn’t realized how much trauma Rose was still holding on to, and I hadn’t realized how insecure James was about himself and his ability to be a good romantic partner. Chemical Reaction is by far one of my all-time favorite fics, and I suspect will continue to be one of my favorites.

2. What Makes a Family -- Once again, this story grew beyond what I expected it to be. I knew right from the start that there were two halves of the plot: James and Rose falling in love, and River returning. I expected each half to be approximately 50-75,000 words, give or take. Well, the story is currently sitting at 212,000 words, and I’ve barely skimmed the surface of the River plot, so God only knows how long this will end up being. But I am having the time of my life writing it. I love this little family. I love James and Rose and their kids, and I love destigmatizing “broken” families, and that dads can be really wonderful caregivers, and, as Rose said, “What makes a family isn’t blood or biology or DNA. It’s about love. Above all, love. And feeling safe and happy with the people you choose.”

3. Perfect Match -- This was my first baby. I’d never written a really long fic before, and certainly not such a long AU fic. But I’d read a prompt on tumblr that had me wondering how a soulmateship such as theirs would work, and how they would slowly fall into many forms of love with each other over the course of their youth, and how it would help them through tumultuous times. This series is a behemoth now, but I will always hold a spark of fondness for this story--it was definitely my gateway drug into long-fic AUs, and I haven’t really looked back since. I’m in the process of rewriting/editing this story because I’m lowkey mortified at my past writing skill/style. Which means I grew a lot since I first wrote it in 2016/2017, but still, I cringe to go back and reread some parts of it 😅

4. Sacred New Beginnings -- This story kinda crept up on me and demanded it be written. I was just vibing to Taylor Swift and suddenly ideas started tugging at my sleeve. I was so curious to explore how a relationship could begin and blossom when at least one half of the partnership was constantly in the public eye, and what it would mean for the couple. I wanted to know what sorts of trials and tribulations they would face, and also the joys and victories they would celebrate. This story let me play around with grimmer, grittier versions of James and Rose, which was a nice breath of fresh air for me.

5. In a Heartbeat -- This is an oldie of mine, something I wrote back in 2017 when I was fully in my soulmates trope obsession. It was a lot of fun to write and fairly short, it’s about soulmates who wear rings in which you’re able to feel your soulmate’s heartbeat. It was a slightly angstier/more dramatic fic than I typically write, but I really enjoyed myself.

SOOOOO Doctor Who:

My very first multichapter fic "The Dream of Atlas," Tentoo x Rose. It was in my very early days of writing so it's a bit of a train wreck but I'm too nostalgic to pull it down. I do plan on writing another post-JE fic about them at some point because I already started working on the first chapter several months ago. Rated E

A Ten x Rose reunion involving a sensory deprivation tank, and trying to contact each other, may or may not involve the Dimension Cannon. He keeps seeing her. He ends up back at Torchwood Estate, and spooky stuff happens. Angsty but happy at the end. Rated E eventually

"Causal Nexus" my current DW wip, centering on the episodes The Stolen Earth and Journey's End. I only have a few chapters left. It's a Ten x Rose reunion AU where the Dalek that ruins their moment is removed from the equation. Still rated T but soon will be rated E.

A Ten x Rose fluffy fic where they visit Disney together

A Thirteen x Rose long oneshot fic where they crash into each other, Rose from the Dimension Cannon and Thirteen in the TARDIS. Lots of telepathic smut at the end, rated E

Mass Effect:

A Femshep x Liara post- destroy ending reunion multichapter fic. It's 4 years later and the Normandy gang are still stranded on an outlying planet waiting for the Mass Relays to be fixed. Liara knows Shep is not dead because she's her bondmate, she'd feel it. EDI lives and so does Legion and the Geth. Shepard has been cared for somewhere in the Arctic, where this part of the Citadel has broken off and landed. Her caretaker is a Keeper, now free of Reaper control. She's suffering from amnesia but slowly remembers Liara and they feel each other's presence. Eventual reunion and lots of emotional telepathic smut

Horizon Forbidden West/Burning Shores:

-Aloy x Seyka fic "The Space Between the Stars" where Aloy returns to the burning shores and they begin an actual relationship while dealing with trauma and the aftermath of what happened with Londra. They will eventually head east towards Nora territory and north to The Cut. Rated E, already lots of emotional smut.

-Aloy x Seyka fic "Orpheus" where Aloy turns around and stays one more night after the kiss, and they go on an adventure to find the dinosaur figurines. T right now, eventual E.
