First impression: he's just a sweet lil lad. a sweet boy.. he seems so nice and shy and somewhat pathetic... i take pity on the lil squishy wizord in deadfire: damn aloth's old and cynical now lmAO

Impression now: this is tough bc i've slooowly started replaying deadfire and i forget most of my impression of him 🤔 I remember thinking that he makes a lot of very funny snarky comments and I liked how they gave him nervous stims esp with his hands. he just seems so done with all the bullshit and i feel that. I do wish he still had some of that sweet ladness left under all that cynicism though... but I think Rake thinks it's a little sexy

Favorite moment: bruh he propositioned Rake in the bathhouse literal seconds before tekehu did... i've been wanting to write a fic about it. besides that, there was a bit in the first game where rake failed a str check and aloth also failed a str check to help him and dislocated his shoulder and I just thought it was so sweet :-) so little rng things i guess... although i do like the comment he makes after you kill the memory monster in the wael dlc

Idea for a story: ok ok u know how i do like. vignettes. well i've been wanting to replay deadfire and sloowly make a fic abt their relationship? starting with the first time they enter the bathhouse maybe ahaha it'll be more playful in tone. my writing's improved a lot since i started the rake series and I still think about one comment I got that said they were so glad i was writing because barely anyone else did male watcher/aloth... 💀 i wrote like. three things and i still feel guilty about it sometimes

Unpopular opinion: oo boy! i feel like i stay so far away from fandom that i dont know what anyone thinks anyways LOL. ig just a general thing for me which is I'm not really a fan of romance? shippy stuff kinda gives me the ick 😅 For characters like aloth (esp bc i. dont like men lmao) I'm mostly drawn to their vibes and personality, and I really liked his whole wizard deal plus iselmyr and the abusive dad backstory ; i feel like there's a LOT of potential to dive into how that affects him that no one really explores

Favorite relationship: with edér :)) just two good ol boys. i like how theyre pals

Favorite headcanon: oo i dont really make these for characters esp if I like canon. i guess i'd like to further expand on how iselmyr functions for him, esp since in game it doesnt seem to follow specific rules or guidelines. does she come out when he's triggered? does she come out just to yell at me for friendly fire or to be upset when my unkillable ghost dog dies? how did he learn to function well in combat if she delivers attacks sometimes ("i dinnae con the spellybooks" girledfriend then woter u doing here? 😔) i guess i'd headcanon that there'd be a learning curve, esp since his first instinct was to fight/suppress her 🤔

actual thoughts on eder's 'romance' (or lack of it) that aren't just 'woag that's crazy' now that i've replayed the rejection scene (if it can even really be called that either)

this is longer than it needs to be and is literally just my interpretation of his second approval scene (and surrounding banter) lol

on the one hand, i genuinely think having eder reject being in a romantic relationship with the watcher is a fascinating choice for what it says about his character. relationships with others (whether in a community or on a more personal level) is an important part of eder's character as much as his personal faith, so for him to reveal that he feels unable or is unwilling to have romantic feelings for the watcher probably due to his life after the saint's war is a really compelling turn for his character. I think it really works to show that the saint's war has impacted him drastically, and the fall out of it isn't just: eder's lost people he cares about and is sad :(. it's genuinely impacted his ability to form relationships! and considering that he saw people he cared for (including former lovers) persecuted or forced to flee because of their faith, a fate he was temporarily spared because he made the 'right' choice in the war, it's understandable that he doesn't want to start a relationship. the serafen banter he has where serafen (the mind reader) is genuinely shocked that eder rejected the watcher also feels like to me a flag that the player should at least recognise there is something more than: 'he's just not that into you' going on here. i think being able to pick up on the potential romantic readings of his relationship with the watcher is very much intended by the writers. and i've said before but i think using this as an opportunity to explore eder's trauma and how it impacts his relationship with the watcher is way more interesting than if the player was never able to address it at all and we were just meant to take his unending devotion as regular friendship and not as potentially something more.

at the same time, the fact that the player is able to have this conversation which potentially raises the issue that eder is not really coping with everything he's lost and where he admits he'd have feelings for the watcher (in another life/if he wasn't traumatised) but is unable to have them, and then afaik this isn't ever really addressed again in the game is kinda frustrating and it does feel like there's this loose thread hanging here when you take this dialogue option and i do wish it was explored more in some way. because all of this stuff is right there in the text! like idk i just feel like there's too much dialogue, within this scene and around it (tekehu(?) also questioning if eder and the watcher are together is another example) that makes me feel like idk there's something here the player is meant to be picking up on, and i am! but then once i do that i'm like ok. now what?

so obvious to me that obsidian never rly cared about the romances but even more so like,... the other romances other than aloth... how come you literally never kiss maia and like at the end game you cant kiss xoti or maia???? girl... (sorry idk anything about tekehu) but yea... this kind of solidifies the fact that romances should not have been part of the game ... idk why they added it

Aloth is her favorite shhh don’t tell the others. Her main party is Aloth, Tekehu, Pallegina, and Xoti as her faves and, let me tell you, that is a party that Totally Gets Along With No Problems.

6. What was your Watcher’s ship(’s) name(s)? Did they enjoy being Captain of a boat? Would they rather have been back at Caed Nua?

I’m pretty positive it’s the The Flowering Grace, but I haven’t pulled up my save game to check. I restarted her game like four times and I don’t think I ever got far enough to get a larger ship. But she does enjoy the ship and captaining. She’s an adventurer at heart and was going a bit stir crazy being stuck at Caed Nua.

8. Did your Watcher find romance, or close companionship, in the Deadfire? If so, who did they get close to, and how did that relationship develop?

I ship her with Aloth but I never got far enough in her game to actually lock in the romance with him. However, I’ve written about them having pining feelings for each other since Pillars 1 including Amaryllis helping Aloth with some of his Leaden Key adventures in between games. They still don’t actually get together until Deadfire where there is still much pining for a long time (and Xoti starts off just assuming they’re dating already because of the way they look at each other).
