VERY late entry for Ulysses Week's prompt "the divide". Lyrics are from Autopsy Garland by the Mountain Goats. I have a project for fnv planned involving the whole song, but I couldn't get this concept for an alternate Ulysses thing for these lyrics out of my head. I love Ulysses and the divide very much. >24 hours of drawing on this one.

Authors note: This is part of the high school AU were all working on, Sokol loves hockey as he does. He's so new to America that he barely speaks English, He only speaks a couple words, which is why he doesn't talk in complete sentences, so there's that. no use of Y/N but Sokol calls reader прия́тель which according to a translation site I found that isn't google translate means Friend or pal. H/N is heister name, Sokol doesn't call you that, at all, he sticks to прия́тель
Sokol looks around the halls of his new school. It was way bigger than anything he had seen back in Russia. He was sanding by his new locker, waiting for the person that had been assigned to show him around the school. looking around for a couple seconds, he saw you, you were so much smaller than he was. It wasn't surprising, He was much taller than most kids at his age. At 16 he was 6'0 tall, and sure, kids are both taller and shorter than him, Hell he'd seen kids his age who looked like they were 6'8. You looked to be around 5'6, which he thought your height was kinda cute. you walk over and stand in front of him. looking up at him
"Hello! you must be Sergei! nice to meet you! I'll be showing you around the new school and helping you out with anything you need to get used to the new school" you say holding your hand out, offering a handshake
Sokol smiles softly and shakes your hand smiling "pleasure to meet you прия́тель"
You smile softly and nod "Well its nice to meet you Sergei!" you say softly and motions for him to follow you "I'll show you around the school before leading you to your classes" He nods
You guys both walked around the school for a few minutes, you were showing him around he school. Starting with the cafeteria and library, then moving to the computer lab and other clubs, ending off with the parts of the gym.
"We have multiple different Gyms, which is fun I guess. The bottom floor is mostly used for Hockey and figure skating"
Sokol's eyes lit up and he looked down at the bottom floor of the gym "WOAH! HOCKEY!' he says smiling
you giggle and look at him "You really like Hockey huh?" He nods rapidly and smiles
"Hockey is favorite sport" He says, still smiling like an idiot
You giggle softly and nod softly, grabbing him by his sleeve and tugging him out of the gym, much to his dismay. when you lead him to his class, he sighed softly.
You smile softly and roll your eyes "I'll see you after class Sergei!"
He nods and walks into his class while you walk off to get to yours. You guys both grew closer over the few school years you guys have. When you both graduate school, you both unfortunately lose contact. after a couple years, you finally give up on your dead end job and go into a life of crime. so, you join the payday gang. the second you walk into the safehouse you hear a familiar nickname from your years in high school
"прия́тель???" you turn and look at whoever shouted that at you, and there he is. A familiar blonde haired man you hadn't seen since high school
You sprint over and hug him tightly "HOLY SHIT SERGEI!!" you smile and look up at him laughing "Holy shit you got taller!"
He smirks softly and chuckles "and I guess now I have to show you how things work here" he says, grabbing your arm and dragging you off to show you around.
both of you were glad you both had found your best friend again.

2. album of the year
i KNOW it only just came out last month but The Maybe Man from AJR.... SOOO much of it was on my spotify wrapped even though it had only been out for like 3 weeks at that point.. it killed me dead and then revived me just so i could listen 2 it more. slay 4ever.
14. favorite book i read this year
i got this one twiiiice which is great cause i have an actual BOOK and then i have a graphic novel so ill say the book here. its called "salt to the sea" and its SO good. my mom gave it to me to read and it took me a while cause im a slow reader but MAAAN. SO GOOD. it made me CRY. in CLASS. so that was embarrassing but i forgive it.

Today was a rather uneventful afternoon. Shuichi was relaxing in his room with Koichiro, as they usually did when neither of them were busy with their jobs. Doing their own thing while enjoying each other’s company, surely having their usual crazy banter as they did. But that’s exactly what made spending time with Koichiro so fun; something he we wouldn’t exchange for anything else in the world.
For a while, the two had gone quiet again, Shuichi continuing to read his book. When Koichiro spoke up again... it was something that Shuichi did not expect to hear at all. “....Huh?” He instantly paused. Lowering the book, he stares back at Koichiro. “I... wha...wh-what did you just...?”
Even if he knows he heard him correctly, Shuichi could not believe what he was actually hearing. Koichiro... having a crush on him? The two had been so close for so long, since they were children... so it never even hit Shuichi that Koichiro might feel that way about him, someday. It was why for a moment, he didn’t really know how to react. “A-A crush on...me....?” But it wasn’t a bad kind of shock by all means. If anything; made his heart start racing much faster, and cheeks quickly turning a dark red. Shuichi never considered himself ‘good’ at these things, but sometimes he wondered to himself... were his feelings for Koichiro only platonic?
...And then Koichiro states it was a lie. “A-A lie?!” Now his face was an even deeper red for a entirely other reason. He was so embarrassed, he could die... that’s what he gets, he thought; for getting his hopes up like that... “K-Koichiro!! That’s no funn-!” Then he says ‘or is it’. “Whaaaa????” Which makes him emit an even more confused whine. This was not good for his heart... “ueeuueeue, wh-which one is it? Don’t be cryptic about these kinds of things, g-geez!! B-But...um....” Darting his eyes away, he sets his book down on the bed and nervously plays with his fingers.
“W...Wh-While I don’t want to risk making.. assumptions about your own feelings. I-I... guess I would be a little happier if you, um... was not lying about that. B-But even I would like to think y....you wouldn’t make s-such a cruel joke like that. It would... kind of hurt, anyway. A-Ahaha...” Especially when he already found it hard to see what about him people would even grow to like in the first place.... “S...So come on, dummy: what’s the truth, already...”

I've already alluded to TaT's Case 5 being the best in AA history, even moreso than the payoff to hours and hours of buildup and dead ends in Dual Destinies, and the cathartic sheer eight year-postponed SATISFACTION of unravelling the mystery of Apollo Justice. Issue #8 Rant
This is an opinion piece and just to let you all know, you might not agree with me and I could be completely wrong about all of this. I am biased because I love Alexandra, she’s my mean little baby that I have to protect. Also, I really hate “girl drama” that involves two female friends ruining each others’ lives over a guy. I had a group of boy-crazy friends throughout my schooling and they were constantly fighting with each other over some 14 year old dude who didn’t even know they existed. Imagine sitting at home, trying to play video games and do your homework and then the phone ringing non-stop with all your friends calling to gossip about one another and “how could she look at him when she knows that I like him?!!?” Every. Night. For hours.
(Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS, and lots of pictures)
Are we really doing this story in what was a really good, pro-woman, positive comic? I get that it has always been Alexandra vs. Josie for whatever boy was hanging around the group that Josie was kind-of dating - but that was different. The situation in the 2016 series makes Josie look petty and selfish. She is basically a jerk to Alexandra over some guy she supposedly got over issues ago.
The classic Alexandra vs. Josie feud was more comical and fun because it was basically Alexandra trying to seduce men away from Josie and failing miserably. Josie would get furious, Alexandra would be mean, but at the end of the day, it was Josie (who was obviously in the right) that won and Alexandra would (rightfully) lose. On top of that, they were never suppose to be good friends or even friends at all like Betty and Veronica (or 2016 Josie and Alexandra) were, so it was more like watching a game or a comedy sketch than something sad or frustrating.
In issue #8, this feud is not fun or entertaining at all to me. It is infuriating. Allow me to explain why.
2016 Alan is not a sympathetic character (to me). He played Josie, broke her heart, basically told her to get over herself, and then went on the sleep with any other available women he saw. He has basically been the Pussycats’ doormat because of this. He has spent the last issues trying to get them to take him seriously (and whining), but they refuse because they have banded against him.
Because of this, he has become an uninteresting and just spends his time moping around the story. In fact, I always thought he was the only really bad thing in this comic. I don’t care about Alan. They give us no reason to care about him either. Every time the guy speaks he gets shut down or ignored by the girls and the comic obviously wants us to cheer the girls on when they do so. JOSIE IS OBVIOUSLY NOT INTERESTED IN HIM ANY MORE BECAUSE SHE HAS TURNED HER BACK ON HIM SEVERAL TIMES SINCE ISSUE 4/5.
Speaking of which, Alexandra and Alan showed no interest in each other before now. There is zero reason why these two would ever be interested in each other. Alexandra is far too much of an interesting character and I just can’t see any spark between them. The two have a one night thing, pretend not to care about their one night thing, then Alan asks her to “see where this takes us” (with your track record? Nowhere.), and then they spend the rest of the issue worrying about Josie’s feelings.........even though Josie is obviously not concerned with anyone else’s feelings. You think this girl would change after learning her lesson over and over and over again...but no. (No wonder Valerie gave up.)
And then comes Josie who suddenly decides: “I’ve been over Alan for 4 or 5 issues BUT NOW THAT ALEXANDRA LIKES HIM I suddenly like him again!! He’s mine! I saw him first and slept with him first and omg Alexandra he is our manager how could you???? Because it’s OBVIOSULY your fault and not Alan’s and certainly not me OVER-REACTING and being a TERRIBLE HUMAN BEING. I’m gonna make you cry and hate you forever that’ll show you!!!”
And then she LITERALLY RUNS TO HER HUGBOX/SAFE SPACE…Valerie and Melody. They hug her and tell her how awesome and amazing she is and validate her bad behavior.
And then…then…it turns out that’s all she needed and she’s happy now! “Alan? Alan who? Oh, Alexandra is upset? Too bad bitch he was mine until I lost interest and then got interested when you came into the picture tee-hee!”
Look at that face. She basically winked at the audience like: “I’m okay now thank you all for supporting me while Alexandra has no one and I just hurt her emotionally again tee-heeee!”
Meanwhile, we have established multiple times in the series that Alexandra has huge trust issues because of what happened between her and Josie. Alexander revealed that she has NO FRIENDS because of it.
And we’re supposed to be all proud of Josie right now?? I refuse.
Even worse, when Alan and Alexandra discuss whether or not to tell Josie, Alexandra wanted to tell Josie the truth (and Alan didn’t because he’s a wimpy jerk as the comic established when he ran away from the armed robbers that attacked Josie and the gang....). In fact, Alexandra says she wants to tell Josie several times in this issue.
Alexandra is clearly the mature one out of all the characters in this issue and it’s frustrating to see Josie still acting like a spoiled brat.
Are we supposed to presume that Alexandra doesn’t deserve this relationship because of her character in the original comics? That she had this coming for trying to seduce all Josie’s sort-of boyfriends in the past? Alexandra has been the most sympathetic character in the series. The writers have made it clear (*many times*) that Josie basically ruined her life. We’re supposed to be like “you go Josie lol you don’t need no man tell Alexandra off!!!111” because that’s not going to happen.
This kind of drama happens in real life between girls. It is so annoying and frustrating that women keep each other down because they have “dibs” on a guy who probably don’t know or don’t care they exist. This new series, up until now, has been an amazing pro-woman, female-positive, and girl power comic. It’s sad that it is ending on a typical woman vs. woman over some guy (more specifically, two strong female friends having a falling out because they like the same guy) “drama” story.
*cough*Wicked*cough*
Maybe I’m wrong, but that’s how I feel based on my own experiences and such. I feel Josie can’t block Alan from having a serious relationship because she had a crush on him and slept with him that one time. Yeah, it was a real shit move and I felt bad for Josie (somewhat – Alan has so little personality that he has no chemistry with her or Alexandra) but she has no right to treat Alexandra this way.
Alexandra is finally opening herself up to a connection after years of being afraid to because of Josie. And now Josie is trying to ruin that. As usual, Josie is only thinking of herself and I’m over it...much like Valerie.
Supposedly, the next issue is the last one (although we don’t know permanently or temporarily). If this series ends with Josie “winning” by being a selfish jerk to Alexandra AGAIN, it will leave a sour taste in my mouth to an otherwise well-written series.

Phanty had brought Kiyotaka to the grocery store with him, Bobby having made the shopping list for them! Though Phanty decided to be 'nice' and told his brother he'll do the shopping with Kiyotaka for him, so that his brother can just relax at home today.
Of course.... while that was partially genuine, he mostly wanted to do this because he secretly added a certain ingredient down on his list, himself, just awaiting his nephew's reaction when he gets to that part. And when he does.....
