ST. LOUIS — Anheuser-Busch has one more opportunity to commit to union member job security, Teamsters said on Thursday. If the company's next offer doesn't meet union member standards, around 5,000 will go on strike as soon as March 1. "The halting of beer production at Anheuser-Busch's U.S. breweries appears imminent and unavoidable," Teamsters General President Sean M. O'Brien said. "They have a harsh reality awaiting them when Anheuser-Busch breweries are empty, and Teamsters are on the streets." The negotiations continue after 99% of union members at 12 Anheuser-Busch breweries voted on Dec. 16 to authorize a strike.

This is huge.
This is the sign, to all workers that Unions are NOT the bad guy. The millionaire CEO's who do nothing for the people making the company run are the bad guys of the story.
Time to make a lot of rich people very fucking scared.

I love the energy I see here for the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, and I really hope everyone (fellow denizens of the U.S.) keep it up if/when the strike against UPS starts. That strike is way more likely to affect you (fellow denizens of the U.S.) personally, and you’ll hear a ton of shit from people offline about how the Teamsters are being selfish/cruel etc. The people who deliver our shit are just as important as the writers & actors and they deserve fair pay and good working conditions.

With all the strikes in the news, I'm obviously exuberant that these unions are advocating for better contracts and conditions. It's so encouraging to see it becoming more high profile and getting more public support.
But people might not realize that not all unions are allowed to strike. For example, unions comprised of government workers are not allowed to strike under federal law. That means your postal workers, air traffic controllers, IRS employees, Treasury employees, and many other federal, state, or local government employees cannot strike if their work conditions worsen or become unfavorable.
That makes these non-government strikes all the more important. Union strikes established almost all of our labor rights and fairness standards. These rights and standards aren't limited to the members of the unions, and that's because other organizations and industries know that if they don't offer what the union can offer, people won't work for them.
I for one hope that these strikes result in the unions getting everything they ask for and inspire everyone to raise their standards too!

After B*den shut down the railway worker's strike (which--wtf?? how is that a thing), with all of these other unions striking, couldn't they just re-call a strike? Their demands weren't met, and negotiations shut down, so it shouldn't have anything to do with contract-negotiation timing.

Negotiations broke down this week between UPS and its Teamster-represented workers, weeks before their contract is set to expire. As a potential strike looms, UPS workers across the country have been holding "practice pickets," holding signs that say, "Just practicing for a just contract." Here's what you need to know about the labor situation and the impact of a potential strike.

SAG-AFTRA, Teamsters, IATSE, Writers Guild Issue Joint Statement in Solidarity with Directors Guild of America
May 31, 2023
Los Angeles, CA — As the Directors Guild of America’s negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) enter their final scheduled week, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), the Teamsters, Hollywood Basic Crafts (Teamsters Local 399, IBEW Local 40, LiUNA! Local 724, OPCMIA Local 755 and UA Local 78), the Writers Guild of America East (WGAE), the Writers Guild of America West (WGAW), and the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) stand alongside our sisters, brothers, and kin in the DGA in their pursuit of a fair contract.
We believe in a Hollywood where every worker is valued and their contributions recognized, whether their labor is on or off screen. A fair contract for directors does not benefit just a select few; it uplifts every worker in the film and television industry and acknowledges the interconnected nature of our work. We call on the AMPTP to immediately negotiate a fair agreement that addresses the Directors Guild of America’s unique priorities in good faith.
As eyes around the world again turn towards the negotiation table, we send a clear message to the AMPTP: Our solidarity is not to be underestimated. The Hollywood guilds and unions stand united, and we stand strong.
In solidarity,
Matthew D. Loeb International President, IATSE
Lindsay Dougherty Motion Picture Division Director & Western Region Vice President, Teamsters Hollywood Basic Crafts, Chairperson
Duncan Crabtree-Ireland National Executive Director and Chief Negotiator, SAG-AFTRA
Michael Winship President, Writers Guild of America, East
Meredith Stiehm President, Writers Guild of America West
