Obsessed with how Gortash in "Empty Prayers" AU fits in with the team.
He is a failed chosen of god, as well as Gale, Shadowheart, Nemo and somewhat even Lae'zel.
He is the war criminal type with a really cool class/subclass. He has (bad) history with Karlach and Wyll (due to kidnapping of his father) and (good) history with Nemo.
The party of Gale, Nemo, Gortash and Astarion is pretty much "bad and/or questionable decisions" bingo. They can not be allowed to go out exploring like that because things will go badly (for everyone else involved).
He wants to rule the world, but doesn't have the means to anymore + his former patron god WILL torture him endlessly if he dies, so he cannot die.
He WILL have to learn to rely on other people bc not only he doesn't have a choice in that, but his own survival is closely linked to how well he'll adjust to the new reality.
He probably tries to avoid sleeping or sleeps as little as possible at first because he doesn't trust anyone in the camp but Nemo, and Nemo is kind of the reason of his downfall, so it's complicated.
Nemo has to convince him to sleep and stay guard for him because Enver lowering his defenses amidst strangers and enemies? Absolutely not.
The awful adjustment from being at the top of the world to being at the end of the food chain (again). The determination to climb back no matter what.
The fact what he wears his coat at all times bc without he is vulnerable to fear and that won't go.
Bonus point: Bane not answering his prayers and abandoning him while Bhaal tries to claim Nemo over and over again.
The "my god left me" VS "your god can't leave you alone". Hating Nemo for still having his god's attention, pitying Nemo because Bhaal is the last god you want to be acknowledged by.

third playthru antics so far involve gale agreeing to the hag's bargain and getting his eye fucked up in the process <3 and tbh i actually think this is the funniest possible choice they could make as a party since they all dismiss ethel's "netherese magic BLEUGH" reveal as just a symptom of gale already having that shit in his system. like its too much of a coincidence for something so ancient and mythic to happen TWICE to the SAME random guy so theyre all like yeah no shit !!!! gale is the netherese guy !!!! we knew that like a week ago idiot !!!!! foresight is not a gift im givng these people i am so sorry king </3

astarion is so fucking funny as a character because conceptually he hits all the marks of a wet cat blorbo but in practice he's unbelievably hard to stand. i'll be on the bg3 companion guide and have to start CRYING from trying to find the shit under his section that gains approval. loses -15 points for gently suggesting we not massacre an orphanage in cold blood with the d&d equivalent of a nuclear warhead

Everyone thinking Astarion would be the most romanced companion only to have him land in 4th or 5th place is the most hilarious outcome
Because Astarion himself would have walked up to those stats absolutely PREENING and being INSUFFERABLE, so certain he was #1 he wouldn't have thought for a MOMENT that he wouldn't be,
He'd have spent the whole morning pissing everyone off in the MOST obnoxious way, and then they all pile up against the poster pinned to the wall and he sees that he's not only NOT first, but he's WAY DOWN THE LIST
And him being just absolutely STUNNED the look on his face when then whole team just starts busting a gut
Wyll: thought you'd be used to bottoming- er, being on the bottom, eh Astarion?
Gale: oh how the mighty have fallen. Or never gotten up to begin with, as it seems.
Karlach: cheer up Soldier, I'd kiss that pointy mug of yours any day
Shadowheart, absolutely PREENING: I'm not surprised in the least. It's nice to see you in your proper place, Astarion. Like I am in mine.
Laezel: is this a battle prowess ranking they did it wrong I should be winning
Halsin: And so the Peacock finds its plumes plucked. Ease your heart, Astarion. Your feathers are still most entrancing to those of us who see you.
Astarion: I'm going to kill you all and burn. This. Poster.

Can I request Tav and astarion but they get trapped together and astarion has to feed but feels like Tav offering isn’t really giving consent since they are trapped and he thinks they feel obligated. Bonus points if they’re also bickering and pining for other
this was so much fun to write! i may have gotten a little carried away but i hope you enjoy!! requests are still open if anyone is interested<3 i'm really enjoying writing these and am open for more ideas!!
✧・゚: *✧・゚:*
trapped
pairing ; astarion x gender neutral!reader
summary ; a wild treasure hunt leads to an unfortunate situation where you find yourself stuck in a cave-in with Astarion. / ao3
other info ; wyll, karlach and gale get special roles in this because i physically cannot stop myself from including other companions in the background. no real spoilers for the game so you're free to read wherever you are in the game!!
warnings ; vampire feeding, blood mention, vague mention of Astarion's past, general conversation surrounding consent (but everything is consensual because that's hot)
word count ; 5.9k (again. went a little wild)
You have no idea how long you have been walking for. It feels like days though you are certain it was only a few hours. The lack of sunlight is starting to get to you and the cramped cave system you are walking through is really not where you wanted to be today.
Was it a little ridiculous to be chasing a lead you found on a note on a dead traveller? Probably. Did you have to convince everyone that it wouldn't be a waste of their time? Yes. But here you are, travelling in the dark to hunt down buried treasure.
Karlach was more than happy to join you, in fact she was the first one who volunteered to be part of the “treasure hunting team”, as she called it. She managed to get Wyll involved and you were happy with this group. As you were getting ready to leave you had a last minute addition to the team - Astarion. Why he wanted to join you trekking through a damp cave, you had no idea. You weren’t going to ask, either.
So, here you are in the depths of a cave system, following a badly drawn map that should lead you all to hidden treasure. It took you way too long to get to this location and the day is already drawing to a close. You are certain you weren’t going to make it back to camp before nightfall. This treasure has to be worth it.
Through flooded areas and tight walkways, the deeper you get into the cave the quicker your hopes that this treasure would be easy to find crumbles. On the map it looks simple, yet the actual cave was difficult to navigate and you are not as prepared as you thought you would be. Perhaps you should have taken the spare rope from Halsin before you left camp. Karlach spends the time picking up interesting rocks she comes across, rushing over to show you with a grin on her face and a list of places to put it back at camp. You have a few rocks she gave to you in your pocket and you are glad that her optimism never falters the longer you travel. Wyll has marked arrows on the walls to keep track of where you have been, which is an idea that didn't even cross your mind until you noticed him doing it. And Astarion is… complaining.
Maybe complaining is the wrong word. It's more like he has been announcing loudly how he thought this would be an easy task to complete. He didn't sign up to be wading through knee deep cave water or scrambling over rocks to get to the next area. Neither did you, but you aren’t complaining about it.
You have managed to drown out his comments for the most part, keeping your focus on following the map and making sure not to get lost. There have been a few times where you almost walked on some loose stone and went plummeting down into the depths of the cave and you really didn't fancy getting stuck down here. You have also noticed the further you went into the cave the more dust and debris that fell from the ceiling. A sinking feeling begins to settle in your stomach and you approach each step with caution.
“Personally I think this map is leading us to a dead end,” Astarion says as he slinks up next to you, ignoring how lost in focus you were. “We should cut our losses and return back to camp before nightfall, don’t you agree?”
The dust from the ceiling drops in front of you again as you pause, reaching an arm out to stop Astarion in his tracks. “Be quiet, would you?”
“Everything alright?” Wyll asks from behind, hand reaching for his rapier in case something jumps out to attack.
Either something was down here with you or the cave ceiling isn’t as strong as you would like. You didn't know which thought was worse. Turning back to Wyll and Karlach, you shake your head slightly. “Be on your guard. Something’s off.”
“This is what I’ve been saying for the past five minutes. Have you seriously not been listening to me?” Astarion asks as you continue walking at a slower pace now, acutely aware of every foreign noise that doesn’t come from your group.
“Not really. I’m trying to keep us alive here,” you reply quietly, eyes darting from the floor to your surroundings in quick succession.
You stop in your steps as you hear the rumbling grow louder, though Astarion keeps talking even after you shush him again. It’s a rolling noise, one that grows the more you focus on it; a sound of rock against rock and a low rumble from above. You cast your gaze upwards and spot the beginnings of a large crack splitting the ceiling. Like pressure on ice, it splits into several off shoots before crumbling beneath whatever weight was on it.
You quickly pull Astarion towards you, dragging him away from the collapsing ceiling as you both fall to the floor with a thud. In an instant, your surroundings grow darker as a wall of stone and rubble barricades you and Astarion from Wyll and Karlach. The dust settles from the sudden upheaval of rock and the noise you have been hearing stops. Shit.
“Are you both alright?” Wyll calls out from behind the rubble and you can hear the sound of stone grating against stone which only cements your idea that this could be an early grave for you both if you didn't think fast.
You glance over at Astarion who is dusting himself off, rubbing at his elbow in a way that makes you assume he landed on it wrong. “We’re alive… just.”
“Does the map show any other ways to get to you? I’m not certain we can budge all this stone…” Wyll asks as you hear the sound of metal against the stone and a disappointed sigh from Karlach. You sit upright, grabbing the map from where it fell onto the ground and frown. It was a one way system, looping back around the way you came once you got to where the treasure was. This pathway is the only way in and out of the cave. You are stuck.
“So, uh… bad news… There’s no other way around,” you reply. The silence that follows on their end is not a good sign, however it is quickly broken by Astarion.
“What?!” He looks at you in dismay, his face falling at the thought of being stuck here. “You cannot be serious.”
“We’ll find a way to get you guys out! Don’t even stress!” Karlach yells. Her voice gets quiet but you can still hear her. “Do you think they’re stressed, Wyll?”
You take a moment to assess the cave-in, trying to budge a few rocks out of place but nothing moves. Perhaps with enough force they could be displaced, but you don’t have anything on that level right now.
“Wyll? Do you have anything that could push the rocks away?” you ask, hoping he has something in or on him that could force the rocks out of place.
“I don’t…” he pauses for a moment, before you hear him click his fingers together as an idea forms. “But Gale does. I know the spell you are hinting at. We can go back and get him?” he suggests, and you run the time it would take for them to get back to camp and back here again in your head. They would be back by early morning at the earliest… Which means you will need to spend the night in a cold, slightly damp cave. You give Astarion a look.
“Don’t look at me like that. I’m not going to dig our way out. My hands are way too delicate for that,” he says, turning his back to the problem at hand.
“Gale seems to be our only way out, which means we may need to spend the night here…” you tell him.
“Gale? Our only hope? What is he going to do, talk the rocks to death?” He rolls his eyes. “Surely there’s another way out?”
“There isn’t.” You sigh, rubbing at your temples as you begin to feel a stress headache forming. “And he can use spells, Astarion. Gale can shatter the rocks or something. They’re too tightly packed to move them normally. We’re stuck here until he can sort it out.”
“Great. Wonderful, actually. I’ve always wanted to spend a night in a cave. Thanks for this, really!” His voice drips with sarcasm and you have to physically hold yourself back from getting annoyed at him.
“I didn't personally cause this cave in! You think I want to be stuck here with you like this? Gods, you are infuriating.”
Before the argument could escalate, Wyll calls out from behind the wall of rocks that he and Karlach are going to head back to camp and grab Gale. They’ll be as quick as they can, he promises. It gives you some reassurance that you will not be stuck here for too long with Astarion.
The sound of your fellow companions leaving fills you with anxiety as the clock begins to tick on getting you both out alive. This is not how you planned this trip to go and you are starting to wonder if this was even worth it at this point. Astarion didn't seem to think so.
"For your information, I am not sleeping on the floor with no bedroll. This is expensive fabric, I’m not ruining it.” Astarion gestures to his outfit as you begin to set yourself down on the ground, ready to call it a day.
“We’ve camped in worse places, I don’t understand why you’re complaining so much about this,” you say, rummaging through your bag and thanking the Gods you packed some food for yourself.
“At least at camp I have my tent. And all my belongings. And comfort. Do I need to go on?” He shifts in his stance, looking down the tunnel to avoid your gaze.
You glare at him. “Okay, fine, I guess this isn’t an ideal place to rest. But I don’t want to travel too far in case we get lost. And then we’ll probably die down here. Do you want that?”
He sighs but doesn’t make a comment. You take it as a win.
After placing the contents of your bag onto the ground you come to two conclusions. One: the floor is far too damp to start a fire which means you are going to spend the next few hours cold. Two: you have enough food for yourself, but you aren’t sure if Astarion bought anything of use with him. You didn't see him pack much before he said he was joining you. He is still standing when you look over to him again.
“Are you going to stand all night?” you ask as he nods, still avoiding your gaze.
“Like I said. Expensive fabric. I’m not ruining it because someone got us trapped in here,” he replies and you roll your eyes. Wordlessly, you unbuckle your cloak from your shoulders and place it down on the floor for him. The dampness of the floor is most likely going to ruin your nice and expensive cloak, but at least it will stop him complaining. Hopefully.
He looks from you to the cloak and back again, confusion crossing his face and disappearing as quickly as it arrived. “What’s that for?”
“Just sit down. Please.” You start to reorganise the contents of your back, returning the tinderbox and an almost empty waterskin but keeping out the food you swiped before you left. When you look back up, you see Astarion has sat down atop your cloak. You hold back a smile.
The silence that falls over the both of you is broken by droplets of water or the sound of other vaguely ominous cave noises. If your timing is right you are certain it was now early evening. Hopefully Karlach and Wyll have left the cave by now.
“Did you bring any food?” you ask after a little while passes. It’s only when the question leaves your lips that you realise it is a stupid one. The look Astarion gives you only enhances your point.
“Yes, actually. I have three live rabbits tucked neatly away in my bag in case I fancied a snack,” he responds, opening up his pack with a flourish. “Did you want one? I’m so happy to share.” A few books and his trusty thieves tools were the only things you spot before he shoves his bag to the side with a frown. “Of course I didn't bring any food.”
You feel bad holding a stale bread roll in your hand as he tells you that and you lower it down slightly, letting him continue his rant.
“I was considering going to hunt down a cave bat or something. Not what I wanted, but I guess a life of “adventure”-” he says the word with exaggerated air quotes around them, “means that I bury the idea that I’ll ever get a lavish meal again.” He crosses his arms in annoyance.
“You shouldn’t eat a bat. You could get sick. Rabies, or something like that,” you tell him, though you aren’t sure your fun fact is a welcomed sight right now. The look on his face tells you that it isn't. “Halsin told me that after I tried to convince him to keep a family of bats that were living near one of the spots we set up camp a while ago…”
Astarion blinks, unsure of how he is supposed to react to that nugget of information. “Now my meal options have been reduced to nothing. Thanks. You’re truly a beacon of hope.”
An idea pings into your mind as you take in how irritated he is getting, most likely from the lack of food on his part. Not that you have been keeping tabs on when he would feed but from your calculations it had been a while. The last time he fed on you was a week or so ago and you still felt the sting of his fangs against your neck even now. It is an uncomfortable sensation and you were certain that it would only happen again in dire circumstances.
This feels like a dire circumstance…
“You can feed on me if you want.” The words come out quickly before you have a chance to think too deeply about the implications of it. You take a mouthful of bread to stop yourself from taking back the offer.
The irritation on his face dissipates into a softer look, one you didn't recognize. His usual quick remarks have vanished at your suggestion and it takes him a good minute to respond. The minute feels like hours to you as you start to regret even offering. Was it weird? Did you say it in a strange way?
“You don’t… I mean, I’m sure I’ll manage until we get back to camp.” He waves nonchalantly though you are unsure if he really means it.
“No offence but I have noticed you lagging behind a little lately…” you begin, unable to hold your gaze on him. “I just assumed, well, y’know… Plus I have a lot of blood to spare, so I don’t mind.” You cringe a little at that last sentence, wondering why you said it like that.
“It’s really not a big deal, I’m perfectly fine! If need be I can always go and find…” he grimaces at the next few words that leave his mouth, “a cave rat or something.”
You aren’t sure if you should feel offended at how he hasn’t jumped on the opportunity to feed from a person. Maybe it is because of how little you allowed him to feed on you. Maybe he hates you and would rather drink blood from a rat than you. You push that thought away with a frown.
“Astarion, I’m offering this to you if you need to,” you say as you set down your own food. “I’d rather you do it while I’m awake this time.” You see that he is thinking of more ways to put barriers between him and feeding on you and you wish he could be straightforward with you and say no.
“You’re all the way over there and like I said before, I don’t want to get my clothes wet,” he says and you can’t help but laugh at that. “What?”
“You can tell me no, it’s okay. I just thought I’d offer seeing as I really doubt you’ll find many cave rats around.”
He’s quiet for a moment and you can’t work out what he’s thinking. With what little you know about Astarion and his past you can’t help but assume he hasn’t had that many opportunities to say no to things.
He considers his words, opening and closing his mouth a few times before sighing, looking at you with a soft frown. “I don’t want you to feel like you are obligated to do this considering our circumstance.”
You blink in confusion at that, unsure why he feels that way. You wouldn't have offered if you didn't feel comfortable in allowing him to feed, so why was he convinced you were doing this because there was no other option?
“We haven’t built up much of a feeding rapport, that’s all! We haven’t… done this much. It still feels new.” He looks away and it clicks in your head at once - he’s nervous. You are also incredibly nervous about this, but if it means he is at the top of his game afterwards then the pain would be a small price to pay for it.
“I have no idea how else I’m supposed to say this: I’m giving you permission to feed on me, Astarion.” You want to know what he is thinking as your words hang in the air. You want to tell him that this is you telling him it’s okay, you’re wanting this just as much as he needs it.
He waits a moment, like he is expecting you to tell him you're joking or change your mind but it doesn't happen. When he realises you mean this and aren't saying it for the sake of it, he gives you a nod.
"Alright. Only if you're sure," he says quietly, moving over on your cloak to give you room beside him. You move over to sit next to him, glad to be off the cold floor and sitting on something that wasn't as uncomfortable.
"Is this alright? Do you need me to be in a certain position?" you ask quickly, shifting yourself from sitting on your knees to crossing your legs.
"It's easier if you lay down," he replies, quickly adding, "for the blood flow."
"Right. That makes sense." You check to see how much room you have of your cloak behind you before shuffling forward, coming face to face with Astarion for a moment. The sudden closeness causes you to stop in your tracks for a moment, holding his gaze for a moment longer than what is normal.
It's strange how you never really see Astarion without his guard up. Whenever you two bicker it was always with his signature smile on his face and a carefree laugh after each comment. But seeing him here and now with the gentle furrow of his brows and the soft lines etched along his face you can't help but try to memorise it all. Without even realising you found yourself moving a hand up to brush some hair from his face, stopping yourself once it rested ever so lightly against his cheek. You are about to pull away until you feel him lean into the touch, something you had not planned on happening.
The sound of a loose rock falling a little way away causes the moment to break as you pull away from him quickly, ready to move in case there was another cave in.
In an instant, the facade he has is pulled back up. "Are you trying to get me to starve to my death?" he asks once you have realised there was no chance of another incident. You laugh a little in response, cheeks warming up at the moment the two of you just shared.
"Wanted the last thing I saw to be something good. You know, in case you drink all of my blood and I die," you tease, before laying back on your cloak. The reality of what was about to happen is starting to settle in now and you keep your focus on the ceiling above you, not on Astarion.
"I promise you I won't kill you. I don't have any way of getting you back and I'd rather not have to explain to the others what happened," he replies, hands moving to either side of your head to hold himself up. He's at an angle, legs staying to one side of you. It's a little awkward and you can tell it's not ideal for him.
"That's good to hear! I do bring a scroll of revivify with me everywhere so we have a backup plan… just in case." It is hard to keep your gaze on the ceiling now as Astarion leans over you. Your heart pounds heavily against your chest and you cannot work out if it's because you know you are about to lose blood and it was working to keep it flowing or perhaps because of something else you didn't want to admit to yourself.
"Are you ready?" he asks softly, and you can already anticipate the sharp sting of his fangs piercing your skin. You give him a nod and turn your head to the side, exposing your neck to him.
He leans in and you can feel his breath against your neck. It takes everything in you to not turn to look at him, even seeing him so close out of the corner of your eye was enough to redden your cheeks. You hope he didn't notice.
The sudden pain is sharp and takes you off guard, reaching to grab onto Astarion's shoulder tightly to try and take your mind off of it. It's not as bad as the first time he fed from you, but it certainly isn't any better. He shifts positions as you see his legs now straddling you, and if anyone were to suddenly burst down the wall of rock it would be a rather embarrassing encounter for everyone. You forgot how intimate this whole ordeal could be.
You close your eyes as the pain subsides, now giving way to a feeling of numbness that crashes over you. You're very aware of the feeling of his lips against your neck and it would be so easy to let yourself imagine this was something else entirely. But then you move and the discomfort of your blood being removed from your body kicks back in and you have to stop yourself from allowing him to take too much from you. You give his shoulder a soft squeeze, and when there's no response from him you are forced to find your voice.
"Hey…" You mumble, tightening your grip on his shoulder. "Astarion..?"
He does nothing except press himself closer to you, savouring every last drop he could get. Black spots begin to fill your vision and with what little strength you had in you, you smack your arm down into his side to get him to stop.
He pulls away from your neck at the impact, blood smeared across his lips and his pupils dilated - you can hardly see the red anymore. Would it be odd to say that he looked so very handsome like this?
"Shit," he says breathlessly, "might have over indulged there. Sorry."
You give him a weak laugh, feeling your head spin at the sudden blood loss. "S'alright. Just glad you didn't kill me."
His eyes glance back at your neck as you speak, and when he leans you worry that he was going in for round two. You are taken aback when he licks across the area he had just bitten. If you weren't so dizzy you would have questioned him as he sits back, still straddling your waist.
"I'm not about to waste perfectly good blood," he says, noticing the confusion on your face. "Are you alright, though? You look a little pale."
You give him a thumbs up, still laying down. "All good. Missing some blood, that's all."
He nods, watching as you close your eyes again. You could quite easily drift off to sleep right now, the dizziness and the general feeling of not being right only adding to the need to rest. When you don't feel Astarion move off of you, you open one of your eyes to make sure he was okay.
"Are you alright?" you ask, catching him deep in thought.
"Oh, yes, I'm great. Wonderful. Absolutely perfect," he replies too quickly for it to be truthful. You frown, sitting up slowly to be at eye level with him.
"Is there more blood there still?" you ask him, watching as his eyes keep going back to your neck. "If there is, you should get it."
His touch is so soft you cannot discern if he was cleaning up some blood on your neck or if it is a kiss. When it happens again you realise he isn't cleaning up your neck but kissing over the spot he had just bitten. It is a strange feeling and one you didn't expect to feel after being drained from your blood, but as he moves along your neck leaving faint kisses in his trail you wonder if perhaps he had similar feelings towards you as you did him. You have always been happy to push those feelings down, keeping your focus on the main goal at hand. But here, trapped in a cave with no one to bug you to keep on track, maybe you could indulge yourself this once.
Astarion pulls back from your neck to look at you, his lips are still tinted a softer red from your blood and you find yourself staring at them for a little too long. Gently, you place your hand back on his cheek, smiling when he leans into the touch again. His hand moves to cover yours and you are still in shock at how soft his movements are.
The gap between you both closes slowly and you are aware of what this would lead to. Playful remarks and comments about hooking up were one thing, but this was not playing out like how you imagined it would. You didn't picture yourself being stuck in a cave with him, for starters. You want to ask him if this was okay, if this was even allowed.
You opened your mouth to speak and are suddenly caught off guard by the sound of more rocks falling elsewhere, echoing through the cave. The sudden sound causes you to flinch as you both turn to look in the direction it came from, further along the tunnel. At least it wasn't the way you came, you thought.
Astarion looks back at you after a moment and clears his throat, sitting back to put some distance between you both.
"You should get some rest. I'll, uh, keep watch in case the others turn up," he says quickly, climbing off of your lap in a clumsy manner. You can't help but feel slightly sad at the loss of his touch, but sleep was begging for you to join it.
"Wake me if anything happens," you tell him as you lay back down, already closing your eyes. You don't hear his response as sleep greets you with open arms.
Sounds of your name being called over and over again wakes you up from your slumber. Your head hurts and you feel as if you've been fighting fifty different battles and didn't win one of them. There was a pressure on your chest and as you come to you are met with a mess of white hair laying on you, Astarion's arms wrapped tightly around your midriff. You smile softly at the scene, hand moving to brush through his hair slowly. He hums in response but the moment is broken by your names being called again.
"Are you both still alive?" It's Wyll, you note, which only means he and Karlach had either gotten lost and returned back or they had Gale with them.
"We're still here!" you call back, still groggy from sleep. "Is Gale with you?"
Gale's voice is heard next and you have never been so happy to hear him speak. "The one and only!"
"Thank the Gods. Gale, I promise you that I will buy you whatever you want when we get to Baldur's Gate, just please tell me you have a way to get us out of here," you say, hoping that he had good news with him.
Astarion stirs from all the loud conversation, pressing himself closer to you in an attempt to drown out the noise. You move your hand from his head as you try to sit yourself up. It doesn't work.
Gale continues speaking. "I have a way to get you both out, don't you worry. I will need to ask you both to stand as far back as possible. I mean it. Far. Back."
You give Astarion a shake of his shoulder, trying to wake him. "Hey. Get up. We're almost out of here."
"This is not a good time to wake me up," he grumbles, swatting your hand away with a groan. "Too early."
"Gale is literally on the other side ready to blow this wall of rocks up. Wake up." You continue to shake him awake, ignoring the groans of protest.
He turns to look up at you with pleading eyes. "He can wait five more minutes. Please?"
You want to say yes, to give in and allow himself a moment of comfort. But your back hurts from laying on rock for hours and you want nothing more than to sit in your own tent and get some fresh air. You sit up quickly, causing Astarion to lose his place on your chest and sit up with you.
"I cannot believe this betrayal," he exclaims dramatically, giving you a half-asleep but playful glare. "Being this pretty doesn't come easy, you know. I need my sleep."
"You don't even sleep," you mumble, ignoring how your head sways as you push yourself up to your feet. "And you're pretty enough already." You blame the aches and pains for that last comment, though it doesn't seem to go past Astarion as quickly as you wish it did.
He grins. "You think I'm pretty?"
"Shut up and move your things. I want to get back to camp." You begin to pack away your belongings, shoving things back into your pack and waiting for Astarion to do the same. He picks up your cloak and gives it a quick brush off before putting it on himself. You're too busy putting distance between yourself and the rocks to even notice this. He slides up next to you after a moment, arm wrapping around your shoulder with a grin.
"Okay, I think you're good to go!" you yell, hoping Gale can hear you through the wall. You get confirmation almost immediately afterwards.
You feel Astarion lean towards you as you wait. "I think we should get trapped together more often. Who knows what else it could lead to?"
"More puncture holes in my neck, probably," you mumble in response. He laughs, his lips meeting your neck again just under the place where he drank from you hours ago.
"But you're so delectable," he whispers and you glare at him. The blush rising on your cheeks tells him you aren't mad.
With an almighty crash of thunder, the rocks that made up the wall you have been trapped behind suddenly disperse, the larger ones shattering and the smaller ones turning into dust. You cover your face at the impact and when your ears stop ringing you turn to see Gale, Wyll and Karlach on the other side.
Karlach immediately runs over, arms outstretched and embracing both you and Astarion without thinking.
"I'm so glad you both aren't dead. I have no idea how I'd break the news to Scratch and the Cub! Or everyone else, I suppose," she says once she lets go of you both, your clothes slightly singed by the warmth emanating from her.
"Did you find the treasure?" Gale asks when the three of you walk back to him and Wyll and is only slightly disappointed when you shake your head no. "Ah, well, nothing lost then! I'm sure there's plenty of other treasure to be found. Hopefully not in caves, though. Might I suggest avoiding them in the future?"
"Suggestion taken. I miss sunlight," you reply, feeling Astarion's hand move from your shoulder to the small of your back.
"We had fun though, didn't we? A cave-in can certainly bring people closer together. Right, my dear?" Astarion grins, giving you a wink.
"As much as we all would love to know what that's insinuating, we really should get out of here before there's another freak accident," Wyll suggests, gesturing to the way out.
You nod, wanting nothing more than to breathe fresh air and be away from cramped spaces.
The journey out of the cave is long and feels longer due to the woozy feeling of having a little less blood than you started the journey with. You find yourself leaning on Astarion for support every now and then and he is more than happy to wrap an arm around you to keep you up. The two of you are at the back of the group; you didn't want your slow pace slowing everyone else down.
"I never thanked you earlier," Astarion says quietly to you, a look of sincerity on his face.
"Oh, it's no problem," you reply, nudging him with your elbow. "Just don't almost kill me next time."
"Next time?" He raises an eyebrow with a grin. "You'll allow me to go for seconds?"
"As long as you treat me as nicely as you did afterwards, I may consider it." Thinking about the almost kiss that happened after makes you blush and Astarion shrugs casually, though you can spot the faintest hint of pink spreading across his cheeks.
"Maybe. We can always do that without the biting part," he suggests. "Only if you want."
"I'd like that." You give him a smile, leaning over to press a kiss onto his cheek. "Only if you want, too."
The first sign of daylight causes you to pull away from him before he can respond as you rush over to the opening of the cave with Karlach, thankful to get fresh air again.
Astarion watches you go, listening to you cheering and praising Gods you didn't believe in. How quickly his plans could crumble. How quickly you made him feel accepted. There was a knot present in his stomach that was slowly untangling itself the more he thought about intimacy with you. Perhaps, one day, he would want that with you.

Do you ever think about how the Tadfools are psychically linked together right from the moment they meet? And how, when the Netherbrain dies and the tadpoles are gone, that link just... vanishes?
All those months of being constantly aware of each other's presence. Always knowing if one of them is hurt or tired or needs a hug. Fighting together with uncanny fluidity, knowing exactly when to dodge out of the way of an incoming spell, knowing who needs healing and when. Holding entire conversations without any of them opening their mouths. And then - in a moment, they're cut off from each other.
Do you think Tav ever leaves the room their partner or friend is in and has to fight a stab of anxiety, not quite certain they're still there once they're out of sight? Did Gale go straight to Sorcerous Sundries and learn Rary's Telepathic Bond, because sometimes the silence is just overwhelming, too much like being shut up in his tower, alone? Do Karlach and Wyll ever finish a fight in Avernus and almost fall over from spinning around to to find each other, because without the tadpole link, they don't know anymore if the other one is okay?
I think maybe they all touch each other a lot, for that first week or so. Little pats and hands on the shoulder whenever they can, making up for that weird feeling that the others aren't quite tangible anymore. I think sometimes they try to send their thoughts to each other, and it takes a while for them to realise why no one's responding. I think they have to relearn how to fight as a team, even how to communicate, because they're so used to just knowing each other's feelings and needs.
I think sometimes Tav holds their partner or their dearest friend, and says, I know it doesn't make sense. I know you're right here. But I miss you.

Elfsong
Do you ever think about how messed up the staff at Elfsong are after the party stays there?
Tav traveling with Gale, Astarion and Shadowheart, looking like a respectable adventuring team: "Excuse good sir, is there a room we could rent?"
innkeeper is all: "Eh, everyone else has been staying away due to the gruesome murders, sure. In fact pay me more and you can have the entire upstairs."
Tav: "Wonderful! We should get the rest of the party, I think everyone will be happy to have a bed again!"
Innkeeper: "Uh, okay we do have ample space up there. Remember if you need food you can order it."
*Cut to the rest of the party showing up*
Wyll: "Our campions rented the room upstairs. Is there anyone to help with our belongings?"
Karlach lifting two trunks, "No need for all that! Just show us where the room is."
Lae'zel carrying a trunk and backpack: "If that man is not giving you the key, I am sure we can find another way inside."
Innkeeper: "Apologizes, uh is that an owl bear?"
Halsin gently guiding Scratch and the Owl Bear cub inside.
Innkeeper: "You have an Owl bear...A dog...and"
Minsc: And a miniature giant space hamster!"
Innkeeper: "Right...Well it's upstairs. Enjoy you're stay..."
The innkeeper just watches in utter confusion and mild panic as the entire group troupes up the stairs followed by Withers, Mizora, Duke Raven guard for some reason and Shadowheart's parents.
Also the food requests would be a nightmare.
"I'm just saying all you need to do is add some spice. It is lifeless!"
Tav: "GALE STOP ARGUING WITH THE KITCHEN AND GO TO BED!"
Astarion: "Oh, do they have any more blood from the beef roast?"
Edit: I compeletly forgot about Aylin and Isobel. So on top of all these people in walks the moon maiden loving holding hands with her angel wife. Also Yenna and their cat is there as well.

Tumblr media
“Gods, darling.” Astarion moaned softly, his fingers threading through your damp locks as you licked a generous stripe up the underside of his thick cock with your tongue. You took the tip into your mouth, swirling your tongue around the hole, collecting the salty precum as you went, your eyes rolling back in your head when he twitched. You never thought this was something you would enjoy, but having the handsome vampire moaning and writhing at the warmth of your mouth had you keening around his pulsing member as you sucked him further in.
“Mmph!” you cried out around Astarion’s cock as long, thick fingers pressed against your slit from behind.
“Gods above, you’re already so wet, my love.” the wizard’s voice crooned in your ear approvingly. “Does taking his cock alone truly make you this excited?”
You hummed in response, nodding your head enthusiastically, your mouth bobbing up and down on the vampire’s length, pulling another moan from the recipient’s throat. His fingers gripped your hair harder, tugging you closer, further down onto him until you tapped his hip lightly to let him know you were at your limit. With a grunt, he released your hair, his hands instead trailing over your shoulders, arms, then around to your breasts. He cupped each of them in his hands and squeezed, sending jolts of pain and shivers of pleasure coursing through you; down your spine and then straight back up as Gale massaged your swollen folds, pressing kisses in the dimples of your hips before slowly trailing his lips and tongue up your body.
“Om, geemmmf!” you cried Gale’s name, only a muffled wail reaching the men’s ears as your cheeks hollowed out around Astarion’s throbbing cock.
“Oh, she likes that, Gale.” Astarion purred, brushing several stray hairs out of your eyes as the wizard prodded your entrance. Gale didn't respond, his eyes focused on the way your back arched forward away from him, pressing your rear closer to him as he teased your folds with his digits.
"Fuck, Tav." He growled, an uncharacteristic curse stringing from his lips when he slipped a finger inside of you. You keened as the rough pad of his middle finger rubbed a blazing heat in your velvety folds, the delicious squelch a noise forever burned into the minds of the men handling you. Astarion's hips rutted involuntarily at the sound and he groaned.
"Let me taste her." He commanded, eyeing the round of your ass where he knew Gale’s hand was splayed. The wizard nodded, rendered silent by his lust, and pulled his finger from you, earning a whimper from below him. He offered the soaked digit to Astarion, who drew it into his mouth greedily and sucked. The combined moans of the two men above you sent shivers down your spine as Astarion cleaned Gale's fingers of your slick. You released Astarion's cock from your mouth and opened your lips to ask for a taste of your own when Gale’s finger delved back into you without warning, and a high pitched whine was all that came out in the question's place.
"F-fuck, Gale!" You cried, now up on all fours as the wizard prepped you for another finger, and he moaned in response, pumping his own cock, already half hard, against the curve of your rear.
"Don't forget about me, darling." Astarion cooed, his face suddenly inches from yours. Leaning towards him, you captured his lips without hesitation, pressing your tongue onto his, begging him to taste himself in your mouth. He groaned into your mouth and pushed you upright against Gale’s bare chest. You wrapped an arm up around the wizard’s neck on instinct, and Astarion seemed fully delighted with how much access that maneuver gave him to your plump tits, now dangling dangerously in front of his vermillion gaze. "Add another finger. She can take it. Can't you, love?" He murmured, his lips brushing the place where the little scars from his fangs were on your neck. Your hips bucked in response, the residual pleasure from him biting you stoking an insatiable fire in your core, and you nodded fervently, aching for more friction. "Good girl." Astarion whispered, his breath tickling your ear with warmth before it disappeared in an instant and his lips closed around one of your pert nipples instead.
You moaned loudly, Astarion's praise sending enough extra slick to your core to allow Gale’s index finger to slide inside of you with little resistance. You trembled as he pumped in and out of you, your orgasm barreling closer with every curl of Gale’s fingers and flick of Astarion's tongue. "Ah, I'm- Stari!" You cried, your free hand finding his locks and tugging.
"Come for us, darling." He mumbled around your nipple, the sensation and his permission sending you spiraling out of control. Your legs shook as your eyes squeezed shut and you plunged off the precipice into a white hot eruption of bliss.
Your senses returned to you slowly; the soft blanket beneath you, the veil of sweat suspended in the charged air around you, the gentle hands cascading over your skin: soft, rough, warm, cold; kisses being dropped on your shoulders, your back, your breasts, your stomach. You hummed softly in approval as your breathing slowed and two sets of strong, loving arms embraced you from the back and front. You peeled one eye open only to meet the loving gaze of a pair of red ones staring back at you. "Hello." He purred, leaning in to press a tender kiss to your lips.
"Hi there." You replied. You giggled then, a gurgled, happy thing that infected the vampire enough to have him chuckling back at you.
"Welcome back, my love." A smooth, low voice tickled your ear as Gale leaned down to plop a chaste kiss on the shell of it.
You giggled again. "Thank you."
"How are you feeling?" The wizard asked, his large hand dragging along your stomach in a way you assumed was supposed to be comforting, but was so close to where you were still sensitive that all it did was re-awaken the ache within you.
"Mmmm," you crooned softly, pressing your body further into his touch. "Good." You mumbled, trying to nuzzle your head into Gale’s shoulder despite the awkward angle. A deep rumbling laugh shook your body and you smiled into his damp skin, breathing in his scent deeply, hoping it would settle within you and never leave, much like Astarion's had.
"Are you done for the evening, my darling?" Astarion asked, taking your fingers between several of his own and playing with them. You whipped your head around to face him, a look of what you could only imagine to be shock and affront on your face, and he let out a belly laugh. "Oh Gale, you should have seen the look I was just on the receiving end of. If I were not undead already, you would have to hold a funeral."
"Does that mean that our little love isn't quite sated yet?" Gale teased, his fingers swooping lower on your stomach causing you to squirm. You shook your head, not quite trusting your voice with the answer, however your vampire had other ideas. His fingers were gripping your chin before you knew what was happening, turning your head to face him again.
"Answer him, darling. Use your words."
"I-" you stuttered, your face heating up under his commanding eyes. "I w-want more."
"Mmm perfect." He smirked before crashing his lips to yours and pulling you to him. He sought entrance with his tongue and you gave it to him freely, moaning as he explored your mouth; plundering it eagerly as his hands found purchase on your plump ass cheeks, squeezing them when he wanted you to make more noise for him. You were so caught up in the kiss that you were oblivious to Gale’s movements until you felt a tap on your thigh and broke away from Astarion to find the wizard on his back before you, his stiff cock twitching ever so slightly as your heated gaze raked him up and down.
You stole a glance back at Astarion who was smiling wickedly at you. "Well, darling? Never turn down a willingly offered meal, especially not one this pretty." He stroked his fingers up Gale’s arm, the wizard shuddering in response to his chilled touch and the praise that came with it. You bit your bottom lip, a low whine building from your throat as you shuffled around and swung your leg over Gale’s hips. His hands found the pudge there and he curled his fingers into your soft flesh, holding you steady as you adjusted yourself on top of him.
"Mmm, you look divine, my sweet." He mumbled, staring at you with awe in his eyes. "So pretty and flushed. Your bewitching sex is ready for me, isn't it?" He freed a hand to press several fingers into your slit and you whimpered and flinched, still so incredibly sensitive from your last high. "Shhh, relax, my love." The wizard purred, circling your clit lazily with his thick fingers and dipping them inside. The pleasure soon overrode the pain again and your hips bucked reflexively into his hand. He chuckled darkly, then removed his fingers, much to your dismay.
"Galeee…" you keened, dropping your hips to search for the friction you'd lost.
"You've had quite enough of my fingers, my sweet." He leveled you with a mischievous smirk that sent wet heat seeping through your folds. You groaned. "Fine." You smirked in return. "No more fingers."
"Good girl." The two men praised you simultaneously and you bit down on your lip to keep the smile from overtaking your face.
Without warning, you dropped fully down onto Gale’s stomach, his long, curved cock pressed between his abdomen and your swollen folds, and he moaned loudly.
Slap!
"Ungh!" You yelped in surprise, more wetness seeping onto Gale’s skin as you recovered from Astarion's swift slap to your rear.
"That's for being cheeky." He teased, raking his fingernails over the reddening mark on your ass.
"If I punished you every time you were cheeky, you wouldn't have any pale skin le- mmfph! Ah!" You cried out as a slap came down hard to the other cheek.
"Less speaking. More riding, darling." Astarion tutted. "Look at poor Gale, he's being so good, waiting for you." You glanced down at the wizard splayed below you, a flush having crept up beyond his beard on his cheeks; one that then traveled all the way back down to his hairy chest, the orb there glimmering ever so slightly in his excitement. There was an overwhelming sense of adoration in his stare as his palms explored your every dip and curve, but you could feel the undercurrent of impatience growing and decided to gift your lover what he wanted.
Slowly, you dragged your core along the taught muscles of his lower stomach, letting out a low groan at how good his happy trail felt against you. He grunted softly once he realized what you were doing and gave your hips a squeeze of encouragement. You rocked slowly atop him, your hands resting behind you on his knees as you propelled yourself back and forth, your slick coating the hair on his body with a thin film as you rode his muscles. Each time you pressed back onto his cock, you both shared a groan that sent your mind spiraling into oblivion, the world around you no longer all that important when you felt his tip slip between your folds and prod at your clit.
"Please," he murmured softly, his grip tightening on your hips.
"Please, w-what, Gale?" You stuttered, teasing him as best you could while the pleasure fought to take your words. "Use your words." Astarion groaned loudly next to you at his command being used on Gale, his hand stilling against his cock so that he didn't spill too quickly.
The wizard underneath you growled and took over the motion of your hips, rocking you back and forth quickly on top of him, rendering you a mess of moans and whimpers as the pleasure built hot inside of you, but just before it overtook you, Gale clamped down on your hips and stilled you completely. "No.." you whined pitifully, trying to wriggle in the wizard’s hold. But he was stronger than he looked, and you were held fast against him.
"Come here, my love." He smiled after your breathing regulated again and pulled your mouth down to his to capture your lips in a kiss filled with all of the ardor he held for you. "My love, my heart, my everything." He murmured against your lips between every kiss. "Let us become one." You nodded vigorously as his finger prodded the underside of your thigh, lifting yourself onto your knees eagerly; so eagerly that you had Gale chuckling into your mouth as he positioned himself at your slit. "Sit." He instructed, leaving no room for hesitation, and you complied without question, lowering yourself down onto him, your eyes screwing shut as his tip pushed past your opening.
"That's it, darling." Astarion's voice was in your ear, encouraging you. "You're taking him so well, look at you. Let me help you along." You nearly jumped when his soft, cool fingers found your clit and started rubbing circles into it, but relaxed quickly into his touch, the extra pleasure and slick helping you to fully sheath yourself on the wizard’s length, dropping your thighs down to rest once again on Gale’s taut abdomen. All three of you shared satisfied moans once he'd bottomed out inside of you, Astarion's fingers only slowing for a moment before speeding back up again. Gale's hands found your breasts instead, squeezing and flicking your tender nipples with the rough pads of his fingers as you adjusted to his size. "Gale, oh gods, Gale." You keened. The stretch of him already had you delirious, murmuring his name over and over like a prayer as you rutted your hips shallowly.
"By the gods, you feel incredible." He groaned, snapping his hips up to meet yours.
"Wet and tight, isn't she?" Astarion huffed, his breathing labored as he continued to stroke himself.
"So much so, oh gods." Gale said, tugging your nipples between his fingers as you started bouncing on him in earnest. All too soon, your arms and legs tired of the position you were in, so you propelled yourself forward, bracing yourself against the wizard's chest instead, his soft pecs beneath your palms and the stiff peaks of his nipples poking through your fingers. "C'mere, love." Gale growled, his hands closing around your back and pulling you down to meet his lips in a kiss as he held you in place and rutted his hips up into you. The slapping of your thighs colliding with his pelvis and the way his cock curved inside of you to hit the deepest parts of you every time nearly had you toppling over the edge, but Gale’s pace slowed and came to a stop, denying you the release you so desperately craved. Your walls throbbed around his length painfully and you groaned.
"Please, Gale. Please, I need- ungh! Please, gods." You muttered, barely coherent as you were forced down from your high, every limb clinging to Gale's body like a life preserver in your aching haze.
"Shhh, it's alright. Breathe, relax. You'll have what you desire. Won't she, Astarion?" Gale hummed, running a comforting hand up and down your arched spine.
"Of course, darling." Astarion answered from behind you and you curled around to look at him. "Lay down on him, my love, and breathe." You followed his instruction wordlessly, laying your body flat against Gale’s chest, your pebbled nipples pressing against his as you breathed in the scent of old leather, patchouli, and musk. “Good, my love. Keep breathing and trust us. I’ll go slow and take care of you. Tell me to stop at any time, yes?” Astarion swirled his dexterous fingers over your opening where Gale was still buried and you nodded, whining as you tried to push closer to his touch.
"Yes," you whispered, knowing the vampire would want a verbal confirmation before he went any further.
"Mmm what a good girl you are, my love, learning so quickly." He murmured into the crook of his neck as he placed open mouthed kisses there. His fingers stretched you further open with centuries' old expertise and you were moaning loudly, clenching around Gale’s cock and Astarion's two fingers before you could even register how they got there. Gale grunted softly as your walls contracted around him, using every ounce of his willpower to stay still as you rode your high. His hands explored your trembling body, gliding down your back, over the curve of your rear before making their way back up your spine, over your shoulders, and down your arms as you relaxed against his chest and your breathing evened out.
"You're doing so well, my love." He murmured in your ear approvingly, and you shivered with delight at the way his warm breath tickled your ear. Your body slowly turned to mush against his, and you closed your eyes, reveling in how pliantly blissed-out you felt.
"Do you have one more in you, my sweet?" Astarion's crooning voice behind you had you flopping your head to the other side on Gale’s chest and staring into his red-wine gaze, full of mischief, adoration, and unbridled lust.
You started nodding before your mind even caught up to his words. "Mhm." You mumbled softly, curling closer to Gale.
"Excellent." Astarion grinned and pressed his fingers back to your sensitive slit. You retreated from him, the soreness of your abused cunt leaving you reflexively pulling away from him. "Easy, love." His soft voice, full of promises, coaxed you into relaxing again and allowing him to stretch you open, the pain soon easing once more into an intoxicating buzz that had your jaw dropping in a silent whimper. “See what happens when you’re a good girl?” the vampire whispered to you as he used his first two fingers to spread you open for him. Your eyes rolled to the back of your head and you nodded vigorously, humming happily when Gale pressed kisses to the curve of your jaw.
“Breathe, love.” Gale cooed against your skin and you started to allow the air in your lungs when you felt something press against your stuffed slit and gasped - it was much larger than Astarion’s fingers. You whipped your head around and were met with the beautiful sight of your lover's face twisted up in pleasure, his mouth open, showcasing his deadly fangs as he groaned. His abs were taut and his shoulders tense as he worked his tip inside of you.
"A-Astarion, oh gods, it's- it's too much!" You cried out and he stopped immediately, his brows un-furrowing and his eyes opening wide with concern. "T-too fast." You said breathily, fear warring with desire inside of you. "Go slower… please."
"Darling, are you sure? We don't have to do this. Gods know I have plenty more ways to make you scream in pleasure." He reassured you, his cold hand stroking down your back gently.
"Yeah, don't push yourself, love. Not if it hurts you." Gale said, giving your upper arms a squeeze.
Their care and consideration for you made up your mind and you took a deep breath. "No, I want this. I want to do this with both of you. I'm just… nervous. Please, please take care of me." You murmured, taking a moment to look each of your wonderful lovers in the eyes.
"We will always take care of you, my love." Gale tucked a strand of loose hair behind your ear and leaned up to press a kiss to your lips.
"Well, I was going to say that but Gale stole it from me." Astarion huffed from your side, but when you looked over to him, his eyes were glimmering with mirth and you smiled at him, welcoming his kiss too. "You're safe with us, darling." He mumbled against your lips and you nodded, relaxing into his touch and immediately breathing a soft yelp into Astarion's mouth as your walls twitched around Gale’s length, aching from both the lack of friction and the overstimulation of staying seated on him for so long.
"Astarion, please."
"Please what, my sweet?"
"I need you inside me."
He moaned against your mouth, stroking himself again before shuffling back behind you and relining himself with your entrance. "Alright, darling; my beautiful, beautiful love. Lay down and kiss your wizard."
Gale chuckled in response and guided your lips to his as you melted into him, your rear raising higher as you bowed low to wrap your arms around his neck. Gale’s tongue intertwined with yours and you hummed as you entered this passionate dance with him. You grunted when you felt Astarion press into you, but then his cockhead disappeared and you cried out into Gale’s mouth when you felt his tongue lick a sudden, salacious stripe up your slit. Gale shuddered at the sensation of Astarion's tongue on his sheathed member and clutched you closer to him, bucking up into you shallowly as Astarion repositioned again.
This time, when he entered you, the stretch didn't burn as badly and you bowed back, welcoming him inside you with a high pitched mewl. You felt the vampire’s cold spit dribble down between your bodies as he pushed you back down onto Gale and urged his cock further inside of you. “S-so full,” you babbled, curling your arms around Gale’s shoulders and holding on for dear life as Astarion’s length joined Gale’s, filling you to the brim. You gulped down air, crying out with every exhale as you lost track of whose hands were massaging your body and which pair of lips caressed your skin. You were on fire, a hedonistic rapture like you’d never known possessing all of your senses at once as the two men rolled their hips into you with rapid, shallow thrusts.
“Going to let us come inside you, my love?” you heard the words somewhere far away, distant in your fugue state.
“Yes! Gods, yes, please- please oh gods Gale- Astarion! Gods!” you cried out, tears streaking your cheeks as the pleasure overtook you and you clamped down hard on their cocks. The sounds of your moaning and screaming bounced off the walls of Astarion’s tent while they worked you through your climax, pumping you full until they too, one right after the other, groaned in ecstatic bliss as they stilled inside you to coat your walls white with their spend.
Little by little, the tent descended into a comfortable quiet as the three of you came down from your highs and naturally curled against one another in the aftermath. Reaching for the damp cloths he had summoned, Gale used one to gently wipe away the excess fluids from your swollen slit. You gasped when the material touched you, wincing as you pulled away from him. But Astarion was behind you, and he held you fast. “Let him work, darling. It’s alright, I know it’s sensitive. You were such a good girl for us.” he pressed a tender kiss to your temple and you relaxed in his hold, giving Gale a nod to continue. After he finished, you reached for a new cloth and cleaned him and Astarion, pressing your lips to each of theirs in deep kisses that you hoped would convey what words could not; you loved them - madly, deeply, and truly. You were theirs forever if they would have you. They both seemed to get the message, each cradling your face and gifting you all the tenderness and ardor that only a lover could.
When you were finished, Gale laid down against Astarion’s multitudes of pillows - an action for which you were certain, if the vampire had not been so completely blissed out as he was now, would have been snarked about - and pulled you gently to his chest, your back pressing up against his warmth. You hummed in contentment as the wizard’s arm snaked around your front and curled around your soft stomach, drawing lazy circles there with his thumb. “Mmm Astarion, c’mere.” you murmured, opening your arms to the vampire, who eagerly slid in beside you to face you, tangling his legs with yours and Gale’s and curling his body around yours like a blanket. You breathed in the scent of his cool skin, your nose pressed against his pec; rosemary and bergamot. It was the most familiar scent in the world to you now, and Gale’s combination of patchouli and vanilla was quickly following, and you let your eyes drift closed as your lovers pressed in closer.
“I love you both so much.” you mumbled quietly, sleep quickly drawing nearer. You felt Astarion pressing kisses to the crown of your head, Gale joining him in the act on your shoulder and you giggled softly, squirming between them.
“We love you too, darling.” Astarion whispered into your damp locks.
Gale, nuzzling your neck.  “More than you could ever imagine.”

feeling some feelings about gale tonight *cracks knuckles*; he was a child prodigy, he was in tune with the weave, and inevitably mystra, since he was just a little kid. imagine being so in tune with magic, feeling so comfortable and safe within its bounds, falling in love with something so beautiful as a child. it becomes your whole world. imagine being filled with such childish idealism, such hope, that your only desire becomes getting closer to this thing, this goddess, finding that love and safety and giving it form.
imagine growing up, finally getting the attention of your goddess, how starry eyed you must be, how proud of yourself. this is your whole world, the reason you're alive, your purpose in life. mystra is everything to you, the magic in your veins, the giddy feeling in your heart, the proud ego in your chest. and then she finally *sees* you for the first time, you end up sharing her bed, touching her, talking to her, earning her approval, and, you think, her love. magic is your job, your lover, the motherly embrace of childhood. of course you would try to ascend to be with mystra forever. of course you would want power, so she sees you as an equal. of course you want to impress her, she's all you've ever known.
and then when you fail, when a ticking bomb gets stuck in your chest, you get none of that love and care. she doesn't protect you, she doesn't even talk to you anymore. so you've lost everything you've ever held dear in one fell swoop, the basket you put all your eggs in shattered, and you're left with nothing. you're now a middle aged man, your whole life spent in service of your goddess, who abandoned you at the first sign of free will you've shown. you feel like a failure. you don't have any friends, nor lovers, and you fall from being an archmage to nearly becoming an ilithid thrall. and maybe you realise that were it not for the astral prism, you'd have become a mindflayer and mystra wouldn't have saved you.
maybe you realise she's completely written you off when elminster shows up and tells you she wants you to sacrifice yourself. maybe you think "is this what my life's work is worth? a lifetime of devotion? a second hand missive asking me to die?". but no matter how ridiculous the request, you're in too deep now. nobody would care if you died, mystra made sure you were always focused on her, never making meaningful connnections with other mortals, having no friends, foes, or lovers. if mystra forsakes you, you might as well not exist. so death to serve her might be the best ending you could've hoped for, really.
except along comes someone, and they also have a worm in their head, and you team up, and soon enough there's a bunch of you strutting around faerun, and suddenly someone *cares*. for the first time in years, you actually have... friends? and they're telling you mystra is insane, that you've been manipulated, they tell you that what mystra is asking is too much, that they want you to live. and you're defensive, of course. you still love mystra, and you can't get away from her either, because you feel her presence every time you cast as much as a firebolt, magic running through your veins like ambrosia, nectar and poison all at once. you conjure her face to gaze at, and when you start falling for tav, you show them the weave, because that's the only way you know how to love. eventually you accept that you might have to defy mystra to stay alive and suddenly you have a choice again. but in the process, everything you knew and loved turned to dust, and you had to build yourself back up from the ashes, all while smiling and laughing and trying fruitlessly to fit in with your companions, who find you stuck up and weird after so much isolation.
gale is such a tragic character, if you think about it.

Choices
Tav, remembering the first time they came upon a corrupted portal, and chose to free a wizard from it.
Tav, remembering how the wizard said, “Hello! I’m Gale of Waterdeep,” with such warmth and affection, such a sweet smile, that they were powerless to choose anything other than to have him join the party.
Tav, remembering the weeks after, of Gale slowly opening up to them. Of Gale offering approval on Tav’s toughest choices, even when others in the team were critical. Of Gale offering his hand when he was at his most vulnerable, to show Tav the horrors inside of him. Of Gale offering to help Tav conjure the Weave, to show them the beauty inside of him, too.
Tav, remembering the first time Gale confessed his love for them, when he conjured illusions of the night sky; an aurora borealis; a recreation of his home in Waterdeep; and a breathtaking view of Waterdeep itself.
Tav, remembering how Gale then offered a choice: to make love amongst the stars as the Gods do, or to make love in the ‘old ways,’ on a four-poster bed amidst the sound of their own hurried breaths and low murmurs of lust.
Tav, remembering how Gale chose to do all of that for someone whom he’d only just fallen for, and how he’d implied that it was not his best effort, saying: “If things were different, if we were home, I’d have taken the time to do things properly. To say it all better. But time is short.”
That was then.
Now, the Absolute has been defeated, and Tav and Gale are finally able to choose their own fate: Return to Waterdeep? Stay in Baldur’s Gate and rebuild? Go off adventuring? In the end, the choice they make hardly seems to matter—so long as they’re together.
Gale’s orb is either removed by Mystra or quieted by his own contentment. He is eager to become Tav’s husband. He loves Tav more than he’s ever loved anyone, mortal or immortal. He is happier than he has ever been in his entire life.
And now, on their wedding night, Tav remembers his words from their first night together; remembers that now he does have the time to do things properly…and wonders what he will choose to do with that time.
He chooses to be overflowing with joy, to start. Every declaration of love whispered in Tav’s ear ends with ‘don’t you agree, Mister Dekarios?’/‘what do you think, Missus Dekarios?’ or Gale simply lifting Tav’s hand to his lips for a kiss. Reveling in the sight of his ring on Tav’s finger.
As he leads Tav to the bedroom door, there are rose petals scattered on the ground leading up to it. But when Gale ‘My-Grand-Gestures-of-Romance-Can-Never-Be-Grand-Enough’ Dekarios opens the door, it’s not to reveal a bed covered in roses; instead it’s a whole field of roses, with a clear path to the bed in the center. Tav can see the sun setting in the most beautiful sky they have ever seen, casting a romantic peach-hued light over everything. There’s a picnic spread with food and wine and cheese and so many dessert options it puts their wedding catering to shame. There’s a lake that Tav already knows will be the perfect temperature for skinny dipping. And of course, next to the bed—one so luxurious the previous four-poster bed seems forgettable—there’s a pile of books. Many are collections of romantic poetry, but there’s other, more intriguing titles as well. Titles about pleasure and positions and astral lovemaking. It’s so incredible it’s almost too much for Tav to take in.
But most wonderful of all is just Gale standing in front of Tav, his eyes radiating love as he holds their hand. “Well, my dear?” He asks softly. “Where do you want to start?” He waves a hand at the scene in front of them. “Choose,” he encourages them with a smile.
And Tav, in awe of this man, his creativity, his talents and his unmatched heart, fully intends to sample everything he’s done—but the very first thing they choose to do is wrap their arms around him, claim his mouth in a hungry kiss, and pull him to the ground right there. Bed be damned.
Gale’s laughter against Tav’s lips, as he returns their kiss with his own matching fervor, lets Tav know they chose correctly.
On all counts.

I know we all love talking about jealous Katniss but I want to talk about jealous Peeta because reading the books now as an adult makes me realize how obvious he was about being jealous, he’s just not possessive or a jerk. Because it’s hilarious to me that he just keeps bringing stuff up that he’s jealous about but trying to be subtle. “I thought he was your cousin””she’s just mad because of her boyfriend” “is that really the only time you’ve kissed Gale”. Good grief, he brings up Gale more than Katniss ever does. But it also matches his character that uses words for everything. He just keeps bringing up stuff while Katniss is like WTF. Post marriage he doesn’t really get jealous but once in a while I’m sure there may be a minor thing here or there that makes him jealous and he brings it up during dinner to Katniss who is just focused on the food
Jealous Peeta absolutely FED me, It was NOT SUBTLE.
Tumblr media
and we know there were a LOT more moments of jealousy than he let on. he makes a point of telling Caesar that he knew other boys liked her - so i imagine there was a bit of locker room talk and a LOT of Peeta biting his tongue and taking his frustration out on the mat instead.
(Once, he got a record-breaking - and SLIGHTLY arm-fracturing - win when one of the guys on the team talked, in detail, about what he wanted to offer Katniss as a trade the next time she came by his parents' shop.)
I fully imagine that Peeta was aware of, and HAAAAATED the fact that the two went out to the woods together. He NEEDED to believe they were cousins. Like, for his sanity. because he can't IMAGINE that Gale would actually fumble the bag by being alone with Katniss every single morning for 4 years and NOT making a move.
And Peeta was trying to undermine Gale, too. "I hear the girls talk about him a lot - baby girl, that man is a whore, i wouldn't do you like that."
no and then the HIJACKED jealousy???? UNFUCKING REAL. Every single barrier that boy put up for himself was GONE. ERADICATED. He was SEETHING with a jealousy he couldn't even really understand and just sitting at that table like:
Tumblr media
So of COURSE he has to turn it around and try to make HER jealous. Make her realize how unimportant she is. He could have anyone. He could even take Annie.
"Fuck Everthorne and their star-crossed bullshit." (because he TOTALLY viewed them as star-crossed. Nobody believes in the existence of Everthorne more than Peeta Mellark)
"And fuck Katniss too, and NOT sexually (unless?...) No, FUCK HER (biblically???) NO."
Honestly, I personally don't see him getting jealous at all after "so after". Once she gives him the security and peace of saying the words - he'll never doubt her. Not once. And Katniss loves in an all or nothing way. And with Peeta, it's ALL.
If anything? It's Katniss. Post-marriage Katniss has a bow with the words "for trifling hoes that wish they could" etched into it. It's specifically her "that's my WIFE" bow and she's just ITCHING to use it.
That being said, while he may not be jealous Peeta is VERY competitive whenever Gale is visiting the district. For, like, the stupidest shit. Gale comes to town carrying a buck so he'll just go and move bags of flour, one in each arm, like it's nothing. (He's actually sweating HARD but he refuses to admit it)

My Little Spawn Pt.1 (Dadstarion X Child!Reader)
Tumblr media
Summary: Astarion was finally free from Cazador after being kidnapped by a mindflayer but he was stuck with one annoying task, you.
Disclaimer: I do not own Baldur's Gate 3 or any of its characters.
Word Count: 2.1K
Warnings: Use of (Y/N), Cazador, language, spoilers for those who haven't gone far in the game....Uhhh...I think that is all.
Everything was dark and blurry in his eyes. All he remembers was stalking in the shadows looking for his next prey and suddenly he was kidnapped. He felt mixed emotions, fear but importantly joy, he was finally away from Cazador. It would be like he suddenly disappeared in thin air and Cazador will need him no more. Until he was stuck with another burden, You. “Would you keep quiet, dammit!?” He whispered rather loudly. You stopped shifting around the tall grass and peaked out of it. “I’m sorry” You whispered before going back to hiding. He looked over seeing two people walking by, “Perfect” He mutters and gets ready to put on his performance.
After almost getting incinerated, you and Astarion have found a group and camp for the remainder of the period till the little wiggly worm is out of your mind but of course, you wouldn’t comprehend, for you were so young.
“Who’s the little adorable bugger?” Gale smiles letting you try to read the books he has found so far. “For the record this annoying little sp-human is not mine, they just seem to be attached to me.” Astarion watches you trying to pronounce the big words only to butcher them. “But it’s getting rather late and I hate to deal with a cranky annoying child tomorrow.” He picked you up keeping his arms outstretched and walked to his tent. Once everyone was out of earshot, he squats at your height. “Listen here, you must not tell anyone what we are understood?” His red eyes look down at your innocent (E/C) ones. “But why not?” You sat on top of the pillow looking up at Astarion seeing him take a deep breath in. Of course, Astarion knows he has to make it simple. “Because we are playing a game” He grins “ We are all hiding our identity. You and I are a team and the rest are a team. Whoever is the first one to discover their real identity, is the sore loser.” He gives a smile sitting down next to you. You pouted, your cheeks puffed up “We will win, okay! I won’t tell.” You lean back before yawning “ If they ask what do I say?” You cute little doe eyes look at him tiredly. “Hmm…we are just normal elves got it?” He looks away in deep thought, “it’s for the best for now” He mutters before leaning back “ You know for a being the youngest Spawn he created…you still need rest like a human, you are such an odd little creature” He gently plays with the ends of your hair “ Why did he even turn you?” He whispers as you slowly slip into sleep. “What use does he even have for you?” He kept asking himself all the questions ever since you were part of the “Family”
You were the youngest spawn Cazador has ever gotten. You were only 5 soon turning 6. Astarion was first shocked to see Cazador holding you in his arms when he came back from bringing a pretty prey for his master. He never dared question, he kept all his unanswered questions to himself. Astarion felt anger towards you both. Why was Cazador more tender with you, not treating you like he does to his other spawns. Why did you get the special treatment? He was mostly angry towards Cazador as always, why did he turn you, you didn’t even reach your half way milestone of your life. You were going to stay that age and size forever.  He has been treated like shit for 200 years but you, you would never experience the things a child should be, the things teenerages and young adults go through. Once again Cazador has robbed you of your life just how Astarion was robbed of his.
Morning rolled by, You picked up a little flower near Gale’s tent, “Astarion! Look what I found!” You ran up to him as he was getting ready to set foot on finding a healer with the others. “What is it this time?” He mutters looking up before seeing a flower being gently shoved to his face. “A flower.” You smile waiting for him to take it. “ A flower…you called my attention for a flower…this is why I don’t work with little annoying monsters.” He sighs already feeling annoyed from the lack of blood. “I’m sorry…” You whisper looking down, putting the flower away from his face, small tears forming in your doe eyes. He stops putting things into his bag and sighs “ Why must you be such a crybaby” He sits down pulling your tiny form on his lap, taking the flower. “Wow, thank you. I feel the luckiest person to get a flower from you.” He says in a bored voice looking at you. You sniff and rub your eyes, “You mean it?” The tears no longer present in your eyes. He looks at you unamused. “Yes, now shoo, I have to pack. Go bother Gale, Shadowheart or even Tav but not me got it?” He makes you get off his lap before freezing feeling you give him a light peck on his cheek “Okay! I’ll collect more flowers for the others!” You giggle before running off.  He placed a hand over his cheek and watched the direction you left. “What an odd little spawn.” He whispers before continuing to pack.
You hummed a tune as you collected more flowers near Gale’s camp where Gale was sitting on the pillow, reading a book. He looks up hearing you hum. “Say (Y/n), that tune you must be from the upper city aren’t you?” He smiles placing the book down as your little feet shuffle over to him. “Mmhm! Papa would always sing me this lullaby at night!” You grin “It’s my favorite and he always wants me to sing! He says I’m his little singing bird!” Placing the flowers down, you sat on the ground in front of gale. Thinking back to what Astarion said last night, remembering to not give away too much information. “Judging by your clothes, I bet your father is a rather important man?” He smiles rubbing down those stubborn baby hairs that lift up from your hair. You only nodded “Papa is the best! I miss him and I want to go home…” You look around the wilderness that you and Astarion crashed in. “I want him to hold me close…I always dream of those monsters…and the little wormy” Whimpering you scoot into Gale’s arms. “I don’t want them to come back!” You tear up, “I want papa to hold me but he’s not here!” You wail. Gale quickly panics “Oh…crying child…what to do…wish Tara was here…” He mutters before rubbing your back “Hey now, you can always come to me, Shadowheart and even Tav if you ever have a nightmare. How about this, before you go to bed, I will tell you a story so you can dream of that story rather than the scary monsters. Trust me, I have read so many books, I know them by heart.” He grins as you finally stopped the water works. “Which is why he’s a walking library in this case.” Shadowheart smiles walking over “Now, we should get going, the closer we find a healer, the faster you can go to your papa” She smiles leaning to your height. “Really!” You smiled, your eyes widened at the thought of seeing your father soon. “Let’s go!” Grabbing the flowers, you ran to Astarion to share the news.
“Astarion!”
“What now!?”
Walking to find a healer seems like eternity to you, “I wanna rest!” You whined to Astarion tugging at his shirt. “Then complained to Tav, they are leading the damn group, not me.” He sighs, breathing in heavily to compose himself from lashing out. “Up! Up!” You lifted your arms. “The hell I won’t!” He walks faster only for you to follow him whining even more. The rest of the small group look over watching the two of you, seeing you bothering Astarion even more. “Is it me or do these two know each other very much?” Shadowheart watches you keep tugging on his shirt. “Yet he says he doesn’t know (Y/N), that they only tagged along with him.” Gale crossed his arms. Tav smiles “I don’t know, (Y/n) looks nothing like Astarion so I doubt they are related and (Y/N) always mentions a papa.” Shadowheart and Gale nodded. “What in the nine hells! Where did you go!?” Astarion looks around for you as you stop tugging on his shirt a while ago. “Where did they go?” Tav walks back to the pale elf. “ I don’t know, the moment they were annoying the hell out of me! Next thing I know, they are go- wait…” He smells it, blood. You must have run off to the smell. “ I…um…heard them, this way” He quickly follows the scent with the rest following.
You carefully walked down the ladder, the smell of blood getting stronger. Turning around a corner, you are met with a woman with red skin, burning and importantly with a broken horn. Slowly walking over to the tiefling, you look up at her “Are you okay?” You meekly whisper seeing how tall she was according to your height. She looks up hearing the childish voice, “Hells, what is a child doing all alone?” She looks at you shocked before feeling the tadpoles connect. “Fuck” Karlach whispers holding her head “You were also in that ship…” She whispers before calming herself down and kneels down to make it seem less intimidating to you. “Hey there little soldier,  What are you doing all alone?” She smiles as you slowly take small steps towards her. “I…you’re hurt…are you okay?” You go to place your small hand on her but she backs away quickly. “Careful there, I’m not like any other tiefling, I can burn you.” She smiles “I'm Karlach, what’s your name, little soldier?” She chuckles admiring your little face as you try to say her name slowly. “Car…Ka…la…Karlach.” You finally get it right, before giving her your name, someone else beat you to it.
“(Y/N)!?” Tav runs over, crossing the log and quickly pulls you back from Karlach, putting you behind. “Get away from them” Tav frowns weapons out. “Are you okay?” Shadowheart checks you over for any injuries as Gale also checked along with her. Astarion catches up and lets out a small sigh seeing you alive and safe. “What in the sweet hells were you thinking running off like that?! A goblin could’ve gotten you or a wild animal?!” He looks down at you but stops himself seeing you tear up. “I-I’m sorry….don’t get mad like papa!” You cried. “Like papa….” He glares down at you. “Don’t ever compare me to him you litt-” He stops himself seeing the fear in your eyes. Him, being like Cazador. He would rather kill himself than be exactly like his old master. He sighs before kneeling to you as the others were busy with Karlach. “Sorry…I was…I guess you can say I was very worried…I know it wasn’t your intention to run off…” He then whispers “You must be hungry…for blood like me…I know you are craving that sweet and yet bitter flavor but you need to hold it in like I am…tonight we’ll find some small vermin okay?” He slowly pats your head as you nod. Standing up, he walks over to the rest as you follow closely to him. “My, I feel so much better knowing we have a strong wall to protect us from any arrows” He smirks after learning Karlach was recruited. “I like her! She’s nice!” You popped out from behind walking over to Karlach. “And I like you little soldier” She smiles.
After going back to camp for the day, Astarion watches as you listen to Gale’s stories. He sat from his tent looking at a book but his mind wandered back to what you said. Like papa…when has Cazador ever punished you? He thinks back but nothing comes to him. He turns the page to the book to make it look like he was reading. He looks back at you with that question still haunting his thoughts. It really ticked him off when you compared him to Cazador, he will never be like him…no he will be better. He wants to get back at him and back at him good. He smirks looking at you. Why not get him back with the thing he treasures the most, or rather the person he treasures the more.
You

Somewhere In The Haze
Pairing: Peeta Mellark X Reader
Synopsis: Peeta returns from The Capital but he isn’t the same
Tumblr media
As soon as you heard the news that the rescue team had returned from The Capital, you ran to the infirmary. You passed Johanna on your way to find Peeta and stopped in your tracks. She barely got two words out of her snarky speech when you pulled her to your chest and kissed the top of her shaved head. You ran before she had time to react and passed Finnick and Annie’s romantic reunion and grew giddy over the thought of you and Peeta reuniting in the same way. Your eyes scanned the room and eventually fell on Gale, who you ran to hug.
“I’m glad you’re safe.” You told him before pulling away. Gale watched the way your eyes darted around the room and he let out a sigh.
“He’s in there.” Gale said without meeting your eyes as he nodded towards a room to the left. You broke into a smile and felt your heart skip a beat.
“Thank you.” You said sincerely before running towards the room. You pushed on the door handle but were suddenly pulled back by Haymitch.
“Hold on, sweetheart. I know you’ve been waiting a long time to see lover boy again but you should prepare yourself for what you’re about to see.” Haymitch warned you. You felt a flash of anger towards Haymitch for trying to stop you from going in there and shook your head.
“I’m fine. I don’t care how he looks. Let me in there.” You said and tried to push the door open.
“You’re not fine. And neither is Peeta.” Haymitch tried to prepare you. The gravity in his voice made you stop trying to push past him.
“Why? What’s going on? Is he okay?”
“There’s something you should know.” Haymitch said after a beat of silence. You couldn’t take the anticipation anymore and pushed the door open. You ran inside and pushed open the second set of glass doors with a giddy smile on your face.
“Peeta? Peeta, I’m here.” You shouted as you burst into the room. You watched Peeta’s head perk up at the sound of your voice and he ever so slowly turned his neck to see you. When you saw the state of his bruised and battered face, looking much worse than you had seen from his Capital interviews, your smile dropped and you felt your heart shatter.
“Peeta.” You breathed out. Your heart ached for him so you slowly reached your hand out to touch his face. Peeta backed away from your hand as if in fear and your face twisted in confusion.
“Peeta, it’s me.” You assured him and reached out again. This time, he aggressively swatted your hand away befriend lunging at your neck with both hands. He slammed you into a glass cabinet behind you before throwing you onto the ground by your neck. You barely had time to gasp for air when he got back on top of you and started to strangle you. You tapped the side of his arms to try to get him to let go of you as you struggled to breath.
“Peeta, stop. It’s me.” You wheezed out.
“I know.” He growled and tightened his grip. You watched the corners of your vision darken as the last of your breath left your lungs. The last thing you saw before passing out was the feral look in Peeta’s eyes as he choked you.
When you woke up, your body felt sore and heavy. You had hoped the interaction with Peeta was just another one of your nightmares, but the brace around your neck told you it was all too real.
“I’m sorry. I tried to warn you. That’s not him.” Haymitch said from your bedside, making you jump. You opened your mouth to speak but only a croak came out. You gulped and braced yourself before trying again.
“You’re right. It’s not.” You croaked out.
“I’ll let you get some rest. We can talk about it when you’re feeling better.” Haymitch said with a pat of your hand. You quickly grabbed his hand and pulled his back.
“I want to talk to him.” You croaked.
“I’m not so sure that’s a good idea.”
“I’ve waited to see him every day for the past 8 weeks. I need to see him.” You said with painful gasps of air between each word.
“Y/n, that wasn’t just some disorientation from his sedation wearing off. Peeta went through intensive torture while he was in The Capital.” Haymitch told you.
“What kind of torture?”
“It’s a method called Hijacking. They inject him with trackerjack venom and show him altered pictures of his life. Its a form of fear conditioning. They have programmed his mind to see you as life threatening.”
“Can you reverse it?” You asked.
“We’re trying. But we have little to no experience with this sort of thing.” Haymitch sighed.
“Let me talk to him. He just needs to see my face.” You said and tried to sit up.
“You really want to go back in there after what he did to you?” Haymitch asked as he pushed you back down onto your bed.
“If it’ll help him get his memory back, then yes. He’d do it for me.” You said decidedly.
“You’ve never been one to accept “no” for an answer, have you?” Haymitch sighed, knowing he would never get through to you.
“Nope.”
“Fine. But we’re cuffing him.” He reluctantly agreed.
You were escorted back to Peeta’s room with an entirely new feeling in your chest. Last time you were coming to see him, you were giddy and hopeful. Things had been so good between the two of you on the last night in the arena. As you walked to his room now, you felt pure terror. It was like Peeta was possessed by a malevolent spirit that stripped him of every identifying feature you had grown to love. You pushed that feat to the side and entered his room.
“Peeta?” You asked as you pushed through the door. You could see the way Peeta immediately tensed up at the sight of you, so you stayed by the door as not to scare him.
“What are you doing in here?” He asked in a low voice.
“I came to see you. I’ve missed you.” You said as you immediately forgot to keep your distance and took a step towards him. You instinctively reached out to touch his bruised face, but withdrew it when he gave you a disgusted look. Instead, you folded your hands together and gave him a weak smile.
“You look terrible.” He stated, making your smile drop.
“You’ve definitely looked better.” You replied, making him roll his eyes.
“You’re not even remotely nice enough to say that to me right now.”
“Well I was never the nice one. You were.” You told him. Peeta’s expression changed when he heard this but his guard was still up. He looked away from you to look at the restraints on his wrists.
“I was beaten everyday for weeks.” He said without looking up.
“Peeta.” You whispered and took another step towards him. You reached a hand out again and his head snapped up to glare at you.
“I was shocked, whipped, starved, and isolated. Every single day. All because of you. So I’m sorry if I’m not nice anymore.” He said as his voice shook with rage.
Your mouth opened to say something but you found yourself speechless. You’d seen Peeta so many things, but you’d never seen him show hatred. You didn’t know the boy with the bread was capable of that feeling. You wiped a tear that had fallen before composing yourself.
“I never wanted to leave you behind. You need to know that. I had no idea there was a bigger plan at play. I wanted to go back for you. I swear I did. That was the only thing I wanted. But nothing was up to me.” You finally gave him the explanation you’d been practicing in your head for the moment you got to see him again.
“Me either.” Peeta said with a dry laugh. You nodded your head to show you understand his situation was much worse than yours.
“Because if it were, I would’ve let you get tortured by Snow. Not me.” Peeta continued as he raised his voice at you. You winced at the shouting and took a step back.
“I offered to take your place. Snow didn’t accept.” You explained. “I’m so sorry, Peeta. I’m sorry we didn’t get to you sooner. I’m sorry I had to leave you behind.”
“I’m sorry too.” Peeta said sincerely, peaking your interest.
“I’m sorry I threw you bread that day in the rain. I would’ve saved myself a lot of suffering if I just gave that bread to the pigs.” He shouted at you again and ruined one of your fondest memories of him, the very memory that got you through so much of the first games.
“It was the first my family had eaten in days.” You said with a sad smile, hoping Peeta would hear the kindness he had shown you and remember who he really was.
“I burnt it on purpose so I could give it to you. You know my mother beat me for burning it? Why would I take a beating like that for you?” Peeta asked genuinely. You could tell the Peeta you knew was long gone and the Peeta in front of you had no memory of ever loving you.
“Because you are kind. And generous. And people say you love me.” You answered him while hot tears spilled over your face.
“Do people say you love me?”
“I do. I do love you.” You insisted as you stepped forward again. Peter withdrew his entire body from you as much as he could with his restraints. You saw the way he recoiled and stood still.
“People say that’s why Snow tortured you. To hurt me.” You said once you composed yourself.
“Snow said everything out of your mouth is a lie.” Peeta snapped.
“I could say the same for him.” You said back, starting to grow angry. Not necessarily with Peeta, but at whoever came up with the sick joke of Peeta coming back to you but with an entirely new personality that hated you.
“They told me they would only let you in if they restrained me.” Peeta told you as he looked back down at his restraints.
“I know. I’m sorry. I didn’t want them to. But they wouldn’t let me come see you without it.”
“You know what I can’t wait to do once these restraints are off?” Peeta asked with a slight smile on his face. You grew hopeful that the Peeta you knew was coming back and stood up straighter.
“What?” You asked with the same soft smile.
“Kill you for the mutt that you are.” He said with an eerie grin. You gasped a little and took a step back from him.
“You don’t mean that. This isn’t you.” You shook your head as more tears fell down your face.
“This is me. If you don’t think I’m good enough anymore to be your little romance puppet, then get the HELL OUT OF HERE AND NEVER COME BACK.” Peeta’s voice went from a whisper to a scream as he raged at you. You blinked in surprise at his screaming before grabbing the door handle.
“I won’t.” You tearfully told him, then ran out of the room.
The next day, you were sent out to The Capital with your troop for the planned invasion. You were glad to have something to take your mind off of the Peeta situation, even if that something was active combat. Your distraction didn’t last long as you watched a large black truck pull up to where your troop was.
Several guards got off the truck, followed by Peeta. He was handcuffed and looking at the ground as he mumbled something to himself over and over. When he got closer, you realized he was reminding himself of who he was.
“My name is Peeta Mellark. My home is District 12.” He mumbled over and over to himself. It reminded you of when you did the same thing after you escaped the Quarter Quell and you felt a pinch of sympathy for him.
“Whats he doing here?” You asked Boggs.
“Coin wants him in the propos to show the districts that he’s free and on our side.” He explained.
“Do you honestly think he’s in any position to be thrown into active combat? He needs to be resting so he can recover.” You raised your voice, feeling misplaced anger over Peeta being thrown right back into a traumatic situation after what he had just gone through.
“I didn’t make the orders. If you have an issue, take it up with Coin.” Boggs shrugged. You gave him a nod and an apologetic smile to show him you understood he wasn’t the right person to get angry at. You hadn’t even noticed that Peeta had come closer while you’d been talking to Boggs.
“Hello.” Peeta said in a quiet voice. You turned around to see who he was talking to and when you saw no one, you looked at him in surprise.
“Me? Oh. Hi.” You replied stiffly and took a step back from him. Peeta noticed this and looked upset over it.
“How’s your throat?” He asked, taking you by surprise once again.
“Still a little swollen. But I’ll survive.” You replied curtly. Peeta looked at you for a minute and you could’ve sworn he had guilt behind his eyes. He looked down at the cuffs on his wrists and shut his eyes as if trying to block out a memory that dared to approach.
“When you first came to see me, I had just gotten back from the Capital.” He began in a weak voice. “The very last thing I had seen before I was rescued was images of you while a whole room of people told me you were life threatening. I thought my life was in danger when I saw you.”
“Do you still think that?” You asked him.
“No.” He said. Then followed up with, “Not all the time.”
“But sometimes?” You frowned in disappointment.
“Sometimes. They really got me, Y/n. The Capital really messed with my brain.” Peeta told you and you could hear the pain in his voice. You instinctively went to give him a hug, something you always used to do to comfort each other, then stepped back when you remembered that he probably wouldn’t want that from you anymore. Peeta realized what you had almost done and looked slightly disappointed that it hadn’t happened.
“I know.” You said after a beat of silence. You looked him in the eyes and nodded to show him you understood who he was being wasn’t really him. Peeta looked almost grateful and nodded his head as well. You gave him a short smile before walking away, feeling overwhelmed from how much you wanted the person he used to be.
It was too hard to be around Peeta now that he was different and no longer loved you, so you kept your distance from him. That didn’t stop you from looking over your shoulder every so often to check on him while your troop ventured into the Capital. You looked over at Peeta at one point while Boggs was checking the area for pods and saw that he was crouched on the ground and banging his head against his gun to make it hit the wall. His eyes were tightly shut and he was rocking back and forth as his face twisted in pain. You knew he must be having some sort of episode and you instinctively started walking towards him. You stopped when you remembered that he would probably just hurt you again so you stood there and watched him rock back and forth. After just a few more seconds, you couldn’t take it anymore and ran to kneel down beside him.
“Peeta?” You asked and pushed his gun down so he could stop hitting his head against. Peeta just kept hitting his head against the wall, so you pulled his head towards you and held his face.
“Peeta? What’s going on?” You asked him.
“I’m a mutt, I’m a mutt, I’m a mutt.” He whispered shakily under his breath.
“Shhh. No you’re not.” You said softly and tried to pull him into a hug. Peeta roughly pushed you off of him, making you fall back.
“Stay away from me.” He shouted at you. You stared at him in stunned silence and his face slowly melted from anger to sadness.
“Please. I’ll just hurt you again.” He said quietly. You nodded your head and got up to go back to where you were originally standing. You looked over at Peeta and saw that he was just sitting now with his head in his hands. You had no time to react to it before a tidal wave of hot oil came rushing towards you and your troop. You all collectively ran from it and went to seek shelter in a nearby building. As you were climbing the steps, you felt yourself being pulled backward and thrown onto the ground. You barely had time to react before Peeta stood over you and raised his gun as if to bash your head in. He was quickly pulled off of you by another troop member, but Peeta just overpowered him and threw him into the oil. You knew you had to keep running, so you got up and ran into the building. Finnick restrained Peeta once everyone was inside and you moved to the building across the street once the oil went down. You all watched from the window as Peacekeepers blew up the building you had been inside just moments ago. A mandatory viewing from The Capital popped up on the TV and everyone turned their attention to that. Cesar Flickerman announced that you, as well as you whole troop, had just been killing the the collapsed building as the footage rolled behind him.
You sat down and watched the footage from just a few moments ago of your troop running from the oil flood. And from a new perspective now, you watched Peter grab you by the waist and throw you to the ground. Even though you had just lived through it, you still gasped when you saw him attempt to bash your skull in with the butt of his gun. You gulped and looked over at Peeta, who was watching the screen with tears running down the haunted expression on his face.
“So now that they think we’re dead, what do we do?” Gale asked the room.
“Isn’t it obvious?” Peeta spoke, catching everyone by surprise.
“The next move is to kill me. I’m not in control. I just murdered a member of our squad.” Peeta said in a shaky voice.
“That wasn’t you.” You reminded him.
“It was me. I’m a danger to all of you while I’m alive. You should just kill me now and go on with the mission.” Peeta said in defeat. He was himself enough to know the extent of what he had done and somehow, that was more painful than when he was fully gone.
“If it gets to that point where we have to make that decision, I’ll pull the trigger myself.” Gale offered. Everyone seemed to nod in agreement, sparking your anger once again.
“No.” You said loudly, making everyone look at you.
“No one’s killing Peeta. We didn’t go through all that trouble to get him out of The Capital just to kill him.” You tried to sound strong but your voice shook at the mere thought of never seeing him again.
“But-“ Peeta began.
“No.” You cut him off. “You’ve survived too much to be killed by one of us. Since the beginning, it’s been about keeping you alive. That hasn’t changed for me. So no one’s killing you. I’m not losing you. Not again. Not for real.”
Silence filled the room, along with a palpable tension. You quickly dismissed yourself and went into the kitchen to stock up on food. When your troop started moving again an hour later, you moved in silence. Nobody spoke a word about your little outburst. Instead, you all went into the sewer system to avoid being seen by the Capital cameras. You walked for a few hours before settling down for the night.
“You’re the first watch.” Boggs told you moments after you sat down. You nodded and got up to go sit at the end of the tunnel, coincidentally next to where Peeta was sitting. You gave him a quick smile that he did not return. Throughout the night, your gaze wandered over to Peeta every so often, but he never noticed. He was too busy being lost in thought.
“Your favorite color is green, real or not real?” Peeta asked suddenly, speaking so softly you almost didn’t hear him. You perked up when you heard the correct detail about yourself and nodded your head.
“That’s real. You remember that?” You asked in disbelief.
“My memory is getting better. Some things are still fuzzy but I’m starting to be able to differentiate between what’s real and what The Capital made up.” Peeta admitted. You nodded in understanding and scooted closer to him.
“Do you remember anything else?”
“You used to wear your hair in two braids instead of one.” He recalled, making your lips curve into a small smile.
“Yeah. I did.”
“Why did you change it?”
“So my hair doesn’t get caught on my arrow when I pull it out of the sheath. See?” You explained as you pulled an arrow out of the sheath on your back. He watched curiously and then smiled a little.
“That’s smart.” He told you, making you smile as well.
“My dad taught me that. He said that’s how the women in his family wore it when they hunted.”
“Where is he now?” Peeta wondered, making your smile fall.
“He died a long time ago. In a coalmine back in 12.” You told him. Peeta’s face softened and he looked down at his lap.
“My parents are dead too.”
“Prim told me. I’m sorry.” You said and went to put your hand on top of his. You quickly withdrew it and Peeta’s expression somehow grew even sadder. You wondered how long it had been since the last time he’d been touched with something other than abuse. It must’ve been 8 weeks ago back in the Quarter Quell when you kissed him goodbye. Since then, he only knew pain.
“I don’t have anyone left. I don’t know what the point of keeping me alive is if I can’t keep control of myself. It’s not like there’s anyone waiting for me to come home.” Peeta said, drawing you out of his thoughts. You looked at him like he was crazy and sat up to look at him.
“I’m waiting.” You stated. “I’m waiting for you to come home.”
Peeta stared into your eyes for a while and even in the dark, you saw glimpses of the boy you nursed back to health in the first games. The cheeky, witty, and ever loving boy you’d grown to know was staring back at you for the first time in weeks. You wanted to lean in and kiss him, but you knew he would hate it.
“Your favorite color is Orange.” You blurted instead.
“It is?”
“Yes. Soft orange. Like the sunset.” You told him. Peeta smiled softly and looked at you with gratitude.
“Can you tell me anything else?” He asked in a soft voice.
“You’re a painter. And a baker. You always sleep with the windows open. You never take sugar in your tea. You always double knot your shoelaces.”
“Thank you.” He smiled as he looked into your eyes.
“You’re welcome.” You replied, getting choked up over speaking of the Peeta you once knew.
“I guess you know me pretty well, huh?”
“You learn a lot about a person when you’ve been through what we’ve been through together.”
“Haymitch told me they used Trackerjack venom on me in The Capital. You were bitten too once, real or not real?” Peeta asked you.
“Real. In the first games. After I dropped a nest on you and the careers.”
“I remember making sure you ran away before they did to you what they did to Glimmer. I had to fight Cato to keep him from going after you. I remember wanting to run and follow you, but I didn’t. My leg was too wounded.” Peeta recalled as he stared off into the distance as if he could see it.
“I remember when I found you by the lake. You had camouflaged yourself to look like the ground. You scared me half to death when you grabbed my ankle.” You thought about for the first time in a while.
“I remember that too.” Peeta looked at you and smiled a little.
“I thought I was about to be killed. But when I realized it was you, I had never felt such relief.” You continued as you stared into his eyes.
“That seems like so like ago.” He said wistfully.
“I know. Can you believe those were the simpler times?”
“Nothing is simple anymore. I’m scared it never will be again.” Peeta admitted and looked down at his cuffed hands.
“Me too.” You whispered without ever taking your eyes off him. He blinked slowly and you realized he must be exhausted.
“You should get some sleep.” You told him.
“I’m okay. I don’t need it.”
“We all need it. Just close your eyes. It’s my turn to keep watch anyway.”
“Okay. Just for a little while.” He reluctantly agreed. You watched Peeta shut his eyes and within minutes, he was out. You watched him sleep for a while because for the first time since he had been rescued, he looked peaceful. You felt a little creepy for staring so you eventually looked away and stared down the tunnel beside you.
You suddenly felt something on your shoulder coupled with the tickling sensation of Peeta’s hair on your skin. You looked down to see his head had fallen onto your shoulder in his sleep and he laid peacefully with his head buried in your neck. You gasped a little at the feeling of his skin on yours once again. There were so many times where you thought you’d never touch him again, so to feel his warmth once more brought a range of emotions. Your eyes filled with tears and you sucked in a sharp breath before resting your cheek on top of his head. Tears slipped down your face so you turned your head inwards to kiss the top of his head. You knew you’d never get the chance to do this when he was awake, so you savored every minute of it in case it was the last time. You listened to the sound of Peeta’s shallow breathing before picking up his hand and slipping your fingers between his. You felt a little selfish, but you needed the memory of holding his hand to replace the memory of his hands around your neck.
The peace and quiet didn’t last long and you were up and moving again at the sound of footsteps in the tunnel. You quickly dropped Peeta’s hand and woke up your team before taking off running through the sewers. You ended up having to fight off some mutts that definitely didn’t kill Finnick because who would possibly write something like that not me.
When you got to the surface again, you all ran for your lives as Peacemakers shot at you from all directions. To make matters worse, the ground was being torn up beneath you as you ran. You looked over your shoulder for just a second to see Peeta fall to his knees.
“No, no, no.” Peeta cried and started to hit himself in the head. He curled into a ball as he shouted something unintelligible about being a mutt.
“Peeta, come on. We have to keep going.” You urged as you tried to pull him up.
“I’m a mutt. Leave me behind. I’m a mutt!” He cried and continued to bang his head into the floor.
“Peeta, come on. Get up.” You commanded and tried with all your strength to pull him off the ground.
“I’m a mutt. I’m a mutt.” He whimpered as you got down on your knees beside him.
“Peeta.” You shouted, making him look up at you. Now that he was caught off guard, you pulled him into a kiss. You probably needed it more than he did, but it worked exactly how you’d hoped. When you pulled away, he was entirely himself again and looked at you with that familiar fondness in his eyes.
“Stay with me.” You breathed out. Peeta gulped and then nodded his head.
“Always.” He replied. You took a minute to feel joy over this before pulling him off the ground and running with his hand in yours.
Cressida lead everyone to a shop in town owned by Tigress, a stylist you recognized from the first games. She agreed to hide everyone in her underground cellar while the chaos outside calmed down. When everyone sat down to catch their breath, you stayed standing.
You looked around and noticed Peeta sitting by himself next to a pole. You went over and sat beside him before wordlessly taking the cuffs off of him.
“You should keep these clean or else they’ll get infected.” You told him as you dabbed them clean with a wipe.
“You should cuff me again. It’s still not safe with me.” Peeta said, sounding miserable. You didn’t want to cuff him again, but you knew in your heart that he was probably right. You picked his hand cuffs up and he held out his wrists. His face looked so miserable that you dropped them back into your lap.
“I’ll cuff you tomorrow.” You decided. “You shouldn’t have to sleep with them on.”
“Are you sure?” He asked you.
“Yes. I trust you.” You replied, making his eyes soften a little.
“Even after everything I’ve done?” He asked quietly.
“I know who you are. And who you’re not. When I see you do the bad things, it’s like I’m watching someone else. The Peeta I know…” You trailed off when you felt yourself getting emotional at the thought of the old Peeta. You had to look away from him or you knew you’d cry.
“The Peeta I love isn’t a bad guy. He’s safe and warm and kind. And I owe him my life. So yes, I trust you.” You answered as you stared at your filthy nails. You desperately wanted to see Peeta’s reaction to that, but you couldn’t bring yourself to look up.
“I’m trying really hard to trust you too.” Peeta said after a beat of silence.
“It’s okay. I can’t imagine the war in your head right now. Take your time. Just keep your hands off my throat if you can.” You finally looked up at him with a teasing smile.
“I’ll try.” He returned the smile and you saw a glimpse of the boy you used to know. Peeta looked down at his freed wrists and rubbed them a little.
“Do you not want to cuff me because you want to hold my hand in my sleep again?” He asked without looking at you. Your stomach dropped when you realized you were caught.
“You know about that? I thought you were asleep.”
“I was. But I woke up when I felt you.”
“And you let me hold it?” You asked in disbelief.
“It’s been a long time since someone touched me like that. I wasn’t gonna stop you.” He admitted.
“I’m sorry. I don’t know why I did that.”
“I know why.” Peeta said, making you look at him.
“If I die, you didn’t want the last memory of my hands to be painful.” He continued, somehow knowing your exact thought process.
“That’s exactly why.”
“I thought you said you didn’t know why.” Peeta cracked a smile.
“I was lying.” You admitted
“Snow was right about you. Everything out of your mouth is a lie.” Peeta said with a straight face. Your face fell and he immediately looked concerned.
“I’m kidding. That was a joke.” He assured you.
“Oh. Sorry.” You slowly cracked a smile when you realize Peeta had just made a joke. It reminded you of the time back in the first games when he jokingly said he’d take the bow.
“It’s okay.” He replied and an awkward silence fell between you. You wanted so desperately to keep taking to Peeta, especially now that he seemed more like himself, but you had nothing to say. He was already so fragile so you didn’t want to do or say anything that could set him off. As you raked your brain for happy things to talk about, Peeta broke the silence.
“You know, Haymitch told me you only agreed to be the Mockingjay if Coin agreed to make rescuing me and the others a top priority.” He said without looking at you.
“Yeah. I did.” You confessed. “I never wanted to be the face of this rebellion. I just wanted you home.”
“He also said he woke up to the sound of you screaming for me every night.” Peeta said as he looked into your eyes. You stared at him for a while as you remembered all the times you dreamt about him coming home only to wake up alone in your bed. You felt a tear roll down your face and quickly looked away so you could wipe it. Peeta kept his eyes on you as you did this and you could feel it.
“When you kissed me back there, it was the most lucid I’ve felt since I was captured. Everything was crystal clear to me for a second. Nothing The Capital had conditioned me to believe seemed real. Just for that second though. Now everything is fuzzy again.”
“I wish I would’ve kissed you longer.” You half joked as another tear rolled down your face. Peeta stared at you for a minute with a fondness in his eyes before leaning in. You kept perfectly still as Peeta connected his lips to yours. Even before he was high jacked, Peeta normally wasn’t the one to initiate kisses. He always left it up to you because he knew you had boundaries and he never wanted to push you past them. So to have him kiss you now, especially after what he had been through, made emotion swell up in your chest. You relaxed again this lips and kissed him back, feeling the same hunger for him you felt on the beach. When he pulled away all too soon, he stared into your eyes as if he was trying to figure something out.
“Sorry. I just wanted to see if things would be clear again.” He said in a sheepish voice.
“Were they?” You asked, your voice barely above a whisper.
“Yes. Things became very clear.” Peeta said matter of factly. You allowed yourself to feel hope for the first time in who knows how long and eagerly waited for him to speak again.
“It’s gonna take a long for me to fully come back. If I even do make a full recovery, I don’t think I’ll ever be the same.” He said with a sadness in his tone but hope in his eyes.
“I’m prepared to love every version of you.” You said simply. Peeta blinked a few times then smiled a little.
“I thought your love was just an act? To win the games?” He asked genuinely.
“It started as that.” You admitted. “I definitely played it up in the first arena to survive. But there were moments, even in the first games, when it was completely and truly real for me. It wasn’t always an act. And I wish, more than anything, that I could go back in time and make sure you knew that. Before all of…this happened to you. I wish I told you what you meant to me. I wish you could’ve known how much I loved you.”
“Well we can’t go back in time. Not even The Capital has figured out how to do that.”
“I know.” You sighed in disappointment and looked away from him. Peeta watched your face carefully before putting his hand on top of yours.
“But I know now. And it made me happy to hear you say that. It made me feel liek myself for a minute. Is that enough for you?” He asked. The inflection in your voice was so true to the old Peeta that you could’ve be sworn he was cured. You looked into his eyes and then reached out and allowed yourself to touch his face after all the times you stopped yourself.
“Yes, Peeta.” You told him. “That’s enough.”
