Christmas BG3 Playthrough!
For personal reasons I will be honoring the Christmas season by doing a Santa Claus playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3!
I have named my Tav “Nicholas” and based on all the variations of Santa origin material I’ve watched/read (Santa Claus is Coming to Town by Rankin-Bass, The Life & Adventures of Santa Claus by Frank L Baum, and Klaus on Netflix) I have decided Santa is a Circle of the Land (Arctic) Druid with a Guild Artisan background!
Power of the elements (wintery powers and so on), being raised by “elves/fairies/little magic people”, and in pretty much every variation being able to talk to animals. I can keep justifying myself in Santa’s Druidy-ness buuuut, I don’t feel like it.
I am playing as a young-ish pre-legacy Santa because I plan on rizzing Gale for funsies also I think it’d be cute.
Important Side Note: My guardian looks like Krampus :D
I’ve got 3 rules:
All of my hirelings MUST be gnomes, and I will do at least ONE major combat with all “Christmas elf” hirelings. Christmas elves are “immortal” so I don’t have to feel bad when they die unlike my mortal cohorts!
All of my companion’s clothing must be dyed red, white, and green. But mine specifically must be dyed red or ‘scarlet and alabaster’ when I can find it.
This is going to be an EXTREMELY goodie goodie two-shoes run, probably more goodie goodie than I’ve ever done before. Even when I think it’s a stupid thing to do or start getting FOMO I will go “What would Santa do?”
I will be documenting this madness as I go! Enjoy!

Played the hag fight last night (ooh that rhymed) and rescued Mayrina. Just to have her chew me out and then try to walk back UP THROUGH THE TRAPS AND POISON FOG and immediately die because she has the HP of a wet napkin.
Well...I tried.
And no, I didn't bother getting rid of all those mines and fumes because my Tav is an Aasimar and just flew down.

the romance/relationship system in bg3 is genuinely some of the worst designed shit i've ever seen in any game with that feature but at least the memes we get out of it are funny. once saw someone comment something along the lines of 'patch note: waving at gale will no longer cause him to buy a house for the two of you to retire in' and i've never recovered since
#i love gale he doesn't deserve (most of) the incel slander#but it's painfully such a good riff because it really really does feel like that#the player choices being a b/w alternation between 'hey there' and 'YOU SHOULD KILL YOURSELF... NOW!' normally is already comical as is#the fact that it carries over into interactions with the party members who you're presumably trying to be close with is... something else#and what makes it worse is it ISN'T jokey hyperbole. anyone remember 'send a mental image of you kissing him or HIS HEAD ON A PIKE.' c'mon#trying to chat and vibe at the refugee camp celebration and the sum of conversation i get is one (1) line asking how they're doing#because going any further than that elicits marking you down for the path of boning take it or leave it#it's genuinely so hard to get to feel like you can deepen a relationship with the characters in ways that aren't trying to pursue them#yes! halsin! i really want to know you better! i just don't want the ass!! why is trying to hit the only option other than up and leaving!!#99% of the time i expect nothing from media creators in terms of writing interactive relationships#larian are beyond parody in that they've somehow managed to do worse than the already suboptimal majority#we're just going to impose the roadblock of do you want to fuck y/n right off the bat. good luck finding a way to talk around that if not#the obscuration surrounding where exactly the checks are really does not help at all either#when the shit's got even the allos complaining about it you know it's BAD#shame because i was excited for character scenes given that's a lot of what's hyped up about the game#but no it's all just the romances. BG3 Santa Playthrough #4
Entering the Druid’s Grove:
Oh my goodness it’s the bossy woman from before, and she’s trapped! We should help her! I don’t want them to be hurt so let’s just tell them to leave. I wonder what explosion they’re talking about? Oh and a camp! Thank goodness! Let’s go find Nettie!
Kindness is never a weakness Shadowheart, I pity whoever taught you that! The more options we have for a cure the better off we are!
Astarion seems to get along with her even if Shadowheart does not, at least someone is making friends! She doesn’t seem very nice though, it’s probably why those two get along :( she still hasn’t told me her name too.
Oh no! Goblins are hurting those tiefkings from before! Who is this young man helping them? Who is the Absolute?? Well, at least the tieflings are safe now.
A Druid has been taken? That’s unfortunate, but no reason to push everyone away! We should speak to whoever is in charge here, perhaps she’ll see reason!
That poor girl lost her brother in the attack, oh I do hope she isn’t about to do something foolish, let’s follow her! She’s going to kill a defenseless prisoner! Well that won’t make her feel any better, let’s help her help herself!
It seems these goblins worship that Absolute person, I’m not so foolish as to let a goblin loose though, they tend to lean toward the naughty side, as does this absolute clearly! Attacking these poor people.

My goodness there’s a secret passage behind the makeshift prison! Let’s save that injured man! Goblins are up to no good as usual, seems they’ve found a way to sneak in.
Those traps were no laughing matter, we’d better rest before we approach these other druids from this grove.
Astarion seems to be… fond of me? A surprise considering he offered to kill me before. I’d hate to distrust anyone but he is not making it easy! Mischievous little elf!
It seems the bossy woman is homesick, and she’s from a place called K’liir, a strange name for a strange woman from a strange place.
