Drew this back in March for the Lemuria - the Roman annual event on the 9th, 11th and 13th of May, on which the Romans did rites to exorcise unquiet and malevolent ghosts of the neglected dead, Lemures, using chants, the beating of bronze and tossing of black beans.
And Lemurs.

Very excited to announce that I will begin uploads of the Second Circus as a webcomic shortly, right here on this blog! All pages of vol. 1 are completed and I’m beginning work on vol. 2 in the next couple weeks. Follow for updates and please make yourself comfortable in preparation for the show to begin! (Also, if you're in the Richmond area, I will be selling physical copies at RICE on November 12 and hopefully will have limited stock available at Velocity Comics sometime after that!)
About the Second Circus:
For generations, Katya’s family has owned and operated the Moondrop Carnival, an old-school traveling circus. Katya, like her ancestors, has a secret: the ability to travel between their world and another, a magical fey realm home to the Second Circus. For years the two circuses have existed in harmony, but now Katya’s mother—who does not believe the Second Circus exists—wishes to sell the Carnival and settle down in time for Katya to attend high school.
The Second Circus is a coming-of-age story about parents and children and the baggage that can unwittingly be conveyed from one generation to the next. It is also a story about magic and wonder and a rebuttal of the idea that growing up has to mean leaving these things behind.

Why should I?#This is from the timeline in my head where she becomes a priest and undergoes the kolinahr because her anguish over losing her father#is too much#I typically have all his children being adults by the time Voyager returns with the youngest having been a teenager when he left#But AAA.....oh it DOES hurt the heart good to imagine that his youngest was only a child...comes back to nearly an adult. AGH.#And it'd probably hurt a lot...Tuvok obviously values teaching as a means to bond with children (see: Innocence)#<- And his relationship to Kes in some respects though she is NOT a child. I just know that teaching mental discipline would be high on a#Vulcan parent's priorities#The thought of Tuvok missing all that childhood development...he knows it'll go fine without him. He trusts his wife and his community but#it still must hurt...to see your child grow so much without you. Even more so because as a Vulcan their childhood is such a vanishingly#small part of their lifespan. They're a child for like 18 years out of their potential 200.#happy tuvok tuesday!!!

Thinking about Ivy to realize I haven't posted about her at all so have a short infodump (when I get the chance to finish rewatching S5 I'm also gonna be insufferable about her)
-daughter of Morro and wind elemental and orphan with a lot of resentment
-taken in by Ronin, no one is sure if this was the better or worse option than living on the streets
-expert forger and a sneaky little thief
-her wind element is suppressed since Morro's held onto it. It's like it's been split in half between the two of them and after he's released from the cursed realm he hogs it like a blanket
-had a mom, once.
-since i recently rewatched skybound: she definitely believed the ninja could be innocent during the bounty hunt, but probably still helped bc a payday is important
-she would be part of the ninja replacement team
-gets along shockingly well with lloyd (bonded over morro giving them irreversible trauma)
-would also get along with jay and nya and would try to learn mechanics from them (ronin tried to teach her but it failed)
-her and luna are <3 they met when Ivy tried to rob doomsday comix and luna instead infodumped on her about a magical girl series. neither knows how to address their feelings despite each being almost a year older than the ninja
-ivy loves the sea and the water, always has. the docks of Stiix are one of her favorite places to hang out
-she inherited her dad's little hair streak and she dyes it black for a long time
-i do want her relationship with morro to slightly heal and have a fic planned for how it starts, but it takes a lot of introspection and she never fully does forgive him for leaving her

Art promoting
Daniela Astone ( b.1980 Pisa )grew upon in the sea-town of PortoSanto Stefano ,Italy, formally began studying art at the age of 14 in the High School of Arts in Grosseto.
After graduating in 1998 she moved to Florence to study Illustration at the international school of comix, in her second year she started to work indipendently for several editors and in the studio of illustration Inklink.
At the age of 21 Daniela decided to change direction and to re-start studing drawing and paint from life at The Florence Academy of Art under the direction of Daniel Graves.
She began to teach to the younger students in the Academy when she was in her second year , she graduated in 2004 with the end of the year award , but she continued to work as a principal teacher for the Florence Academy of art .
In 2005 she had her first and very successful Solo show at the Ann Long Fine Art Gallery in Charleston so she decided to build up a studio in the Tuscany countryside.
In 2013 Daniela became the director of the intermediate program at The Florence Academy of Art , entered in the BP award in London and recived a honorable mention from the Mod Portrait award,Spain .
Her work has exhibited internationally and in 2016 it became part of the permanent collection of MACS ,the Contemporary Art Museum in Sicily.
She also collaborated with Tiac ,China with Liveandlearn ,Thailand ,with Streamline , East Oaks Studio and teaches workshops of landscape painting in her studio-house in Chianti Tuscany and around the world.
In 2019 together with Gaia Grazioli she curated the Show “Corpo a Corpo” in the Museum of Villa Bardini in Florence thanks to Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze and Carlo Sisi.

Meanwhile in Comics: The Eisners nominated a guy Thomas Woodruff four times for some dodgy-sounding comic book or something, and now it seems like everyone who has ever known him is talking about what a piece of shit he is, just as a person.
Which is a real shame if it diminishes the Eisners, the very most important award in English-language comics, the most prestigious recognition in all of English comics, and their celebrating *check other nominations* She-Hulk, a Star Trek comic book, and Forbes magazine (?).
I mean, teaching a generation that the Eisners are a joke seems to be the only positive education this guy’s provided anyone. But it’s something! (Though of course, they don’t let me vote for those, even when I thought I had a reasonable claim I should be able to, so maybe I’m tainted by that-- but I think I demonstrably thought they were a joke before that, so...).
They sold the comic as a ‘graphic opera’ which people are making fun of-- I’m seeing like 100x more people complaining about that than how he behaved, but you know, people in American comics making fun of marketing... Uhm... yeah, we get it-- you don’t like marketing. Message received!!! There aren’t any readers anymore-- you won that argument!!! We get it-- mama no like-y marketing-- no need to get a tattoo. “Haw haw, marketing”-- you won, you won, it’s dead, stop it, it’s dead.
But yeah, after hearing a litany of “this guy was a mess to deal with,” trad comic guys’ response seems primarily to be “yeah, yeah, whatever-- but check out what this guy calls comic books!” I mean... a little too “true to form” there. It’s not like the guy wrote an Iron Man comic-- you can pretend to care about him screwing with people, in daylight, where people can see you. I’m sorry he used the wrong words to talk about your precious comix, but also, I think this guy did other stuff...?? That was bad...? To people? (Why are comics people always like this???? I don’t know, I just read manga now, Viz App *incredible*...).
(No one’s talking about the Hall of Fame “competition”, but how are Bud Plant and Phil Seuling not in there already??? That seems weird to me... Didn’t Phil Seuling invent the direct market? Isn’t that kind of important??? But they have him competing with Brian Bolland, who drew some Judge Dredd’s, which is also not unimportant, but... It seems like there shouldn’t be a competition on some people-- that some things should be pretty well settled at this point! Also, dead people seem to get in automatically, except Tim Sale who has to compete with Todd McFarlane...??? I don’t know if I follow the reasoning! I don’t know-- not my problem-- they don’t let me vote, even though I run this prestigious blog!!!).

from Comix Skool USA zine #9, 2017, 4 pages from my notebooks. This image came up randomly on my desktop so I’m posting it. I write in my notebooks every day as a way to get focused and to warm up, and since I was teaching (3 classes(!)) at the time, 2017, my thoughts often went what should I tell the students? I’d write that down and put it in the zine. What got written down in the notebooks was in that spirit, whereas before teaching it would often be self-directed exhortations and thinking about how and what. The larger idea was, here, this is what I do, I put pen to paper...
