A delicious red blend from the foothills of Mt Olympus was my favourite during a recent wine tasting hosted by The Wine Society. 

Rapsani Terra Petra by Thymiopoulos Vineyards is a blend of Xinomavro, Stavroto and Krasato - three native Greek grape varieties.

Terra Petra is a wine of Burgundian finesse. Lean yet focused and juicy, with refreshing acidity and fine chiselled tannins. More details in my latest post!

Jackie O's with Jester King - Final Entropy 5.3%ABV🍑

Pours a hazy bright yellow with a white head of frothy bubbles. Citrus peel, peaches and apricots bouquet with barnyard and leather like notes. Clean tangy yogurt and light malt vinegar are followed by a wheat bread and bread flour flavors with a very light walnut shell like note. Body is light to medium very slick and puckering. Highly effervescent. Bitterness is none to low. Sweetness from malts is medium. Hop flavor is none and malt flavor is low to medium. Finish is a truck load of ripe peaches and apricots with light leathery and barnyard like notes. A prominent buttery note work well with Brett derived peach like flavors. Fabulous.

紫がかった濃いガーネット→若さ 粘性はしっかり

香りはしっかり感じられ、甘いリキュールのような印象 黒系リキュール（カシス、ブラックベリー） 甘草、シナモン、ナツメグ、丁子、 ブルーベリー、すみれ、 ミルクチョコレート

アタックはしっかり、豊潤でまろやかなスタイル フレッシュな果実 タンニンはやや多めだが柔らかい Alc. 13% M+ボディ

6. LOS VASCOS Carmenere 2012

濃い黒みがかったガーネット 粘性は強い

黒系ベリー（ブラックベリー、ブラックチェリー） メントール、黒胡椒、樹脂、 バニラ、丁子など樽の香りが溶け込んでいる

アタックはしっかり、骨格があるタイプ 酸・タンニンともにしっかり Alc. 14.5% フルボディ

Located in Napa County, Topping & Legnon (T&L) is a micro-boutique producer making only about 1,200 cases of wine per year. T&L has 16 acres under vine in the Lake County and North Coast AVAs. The vines average 22 years old and are 100% organic. While T&L used to sell the fruit to other wineries (whose names you would immediately recognize), they began bottling their wine privately in 2009. . I recently had the opportunity to taste through a good portion of the T&L lineup, including a 2015-2017 vertical of Cabernet Sauvignon (pic 2), the 2016 Cabernet Franc (pics 3-4) and the 2016 and 2017 Pinot Noir (pic 5). The cover photo (by Unleaded Studios) features the fantastic label for the 2015 Fire on the Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon! Due to the devastating fires in 2015, this wine required heroic winemaking efforts but the results speak for themselves! This wine narrowly edged out the 2016 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon for my favorite of the 3 Cabernets. . The 2016 Pinot Noir also stood out with its explosive aromatics! Vibrant cherry and raspberry notes were accented by orange peel and leather and perfectly balanced by abundant acidity. Somewhat nerdily, the finish was so long that I timed it and it consistently lasted a full 30 seconds! . For me, however, the wine of the night was the 2016 Cabernet Franc! Only 150 cases of this wine were produced. A magnificent mix of dark red fruit, cloves, violets and hints of herbs, this wine was a showstopper and, in my view, is also the best value in the lineup! . Northeast Saitama Sake Tour 2: Rikuoh kanjikomi honjozo Yokota-shuzo, Gyoda-shi Saitama This brewery occupies an impressive and historic building that was used as an exterior in a TV drama called Rikuoh about a struggling tabi maker. Gyoda city was known for producing the distinctive footwear with a split between the big and other toes. I watched the TV show and even stopped by the actual factory, which was much plainer in reality. Anyway, the woman in the shop at this brewery was friendly and helpful and I was able to taste a few of their products. Unfortunately, the delicious award-winning 　daiginjo was above my budget for the day at 5000 yen, so I settled for this product labeled as a tie-in with the show. It had the aroma of vanilla and baked meringue and was slightly sweet, a lot bitter like an everyday lager. I felt it was pretty pedestrian and the alcohol wasn't well integrated. It didn't interfere with food, but didn't particularly complement it either.
