Phylum Round 2
Tardigrada: Water Bears or Moss Piglets. These micro-animals have been found on every continent, including Antarctica. They are well-known for their ability to survive extreme conditions such as dangerous radiation, extreme heat/cold, or lack of food and water. Members of Tardigrada have even been studied on space missions, and survived the vacuum of space. They can endure these conditions by entering a "tun" state, where they lose almost all of their water and slow all their life systems to a near-stop. Tardigrades live on moist mosses and lichens, but can survive when their habitat dries out, and reawaken when water returns.
Ctenophora: Comb Jellies. The largest animal phylum to swim using hair-like cilia. Their cilia are arranged in rows, called combs or ctenes, down the length of their body. The cilia move in a wave-like pattern that generates colorful reflecting light shows. Almost all Ctenophores are predators of small plankton as they drift in the ocean. They inhabit a variety of marine habitats from the coastal intertidal to the open ocean.

Phylum #14: Tardigrada, the water bears!
With humans, the only creatures to have reached the Moon alive are small, inconspicuous eight-legged creatures. But they are not spiders, or arthropods for that matter. While still their ancient relatives, tardigrades have followed a very different evolutionary path.
Tardigrades are part of our third and last ecdysozoan group, panarthropods - with a segmented body bearing multiple pairs of limbs. However, most of the tardigrade body isn't homologous to the arthropod one! Instead, most of their limbs correspond to what would become antennas and mouthparts in arthropods, functionally making them a giant head with two back limbs!
Most famous for surviving extreme conditions, from near-absolute zero temperatures to immense pressures or the vacuum of space, tardigrades achieve this thanks to a special capability called cryptobiosis. By entering a dehydrated "tun state", they preserve themselves while nearly stopping their metabolism, and can be revived decades later in perfect health! While they survived on the surface of the Moon, they do not thrive in those extreme conditions, only being dormant - in fact, they prefer moist environments like mosses or hot springs!
Fancy a mystery? Tardigrades today are divided into two main classes - the plump Eutardigrada and the armored Heterotardigrada. However, a third class, Mesotardigrada, was discovered in 1937, with a single specimen found in a hot spring near Mount Unzen, Japan. Of unique appearance among tardigrades, it was never found again despite repeated searches, and the type locality was destroyed years later.

Phylum Round 1
Acanthocephala: Spiny-Headed Worms. These internal parasitic worms have a proboscis that they can evert outside of their body. The proboscis has a "head" of spines, which is used to hold onto the host. They have no mouth or stomach, but absorb nutrients directly from the host through their skin. Acanthocephalans, similar to some other parasitic phyla, are notable for having complex life cycles that involve multiple different hosts. Some species are able to alter the behavior of their intermediate crustacean hosts.

Euonychophora. This phylum is made up of velvet worms, long soft-bodied many-legged invertibrates. They are the only phylum of animal to exist on land but not water. They have slime glands on their heads, which produce and squirt slime they use to ensnare prey and deter predators.
