soc au idea that meshes the show and book timelines a bit where van eck doesn’t “send wylan to music school” until he’s around twenty. this gives time for lil baby van eck to be born, and i don’t recall if we know in the books, but i think they should be a girl.

and when wylan goes to see her for the first time - something he probably has to do in secret cause van eck’s a bitch - he can’t decide why he hates her.

“‘I wish you’d never been born,” he murmured as he dragged a gentle finger down the infants face. “You’re going to grow up to be a beautiful young lady. You’ll be spoilt, nothing will ever be your fault.”

The baby scrunches her face at the sensation, blue eyes opening to give Wylan a scrutinizing look.

“You’ll grow up to be a beautiful young lady, and father won’t want you anywhere near the Council. You’ll be courted by all the merchants’ sons and the focus will return to me to carry on our name. You’ve made things quite difficult for the two of us.’”

but then the baby will wrap her little hand around wylan’s finger and he will decide then and there that he doesn’t care who she is or what future her existence entails, but he will protect his baby sister with his life. he won’t let their father do what he did to wylan.

as she grows, the child will come to adore her older brother - despite conflicting views from her father. he’ll help do her hair when the maids are busy and act out plays and stories with her dolls and stuffed animals (always from his head with no book to reference, how does he do it, she wonders?)

he sits with her in the garden for tea time. he teachers her how to paint. when she asks who the beautiful woman is in the painting she’ll learn that they don’t share a mother (something wylan will get in trouble for later).

her older brother is the smartest person she knows. and she’ll be so upset when he has to go off to school.
