wolf 359 is a show that poses many important questions such as “how much training do you REALLY need to go to space,” “is it still a war crime if you’re light-years away from the nearest living soul,” “how many times can you send one guy into the limitless void before he gets pissed enough to kill you about it,” “what if the ship of Theseus was a person,” “how many different ways can you kill someone without them dying,” and of course, “would that be fucked up or what”

asmodeus with naturally brown eyes but thinks those aren't "alluring" or "compelling" enough for the prince of lust so he wears colored contacts and/or does a spell to change his eye color
He very much does this. Not to get boring and talk about the theology of sins but lust is about projection of personal desire onto a person without consideration of their humanity. At least in theory right, the way we talk about the sin of lust is greatly affected by purity culture, at least in the U.S, but i digress. Brown is the most common eye color in the world, there is no reason to degrade it as basic or dull, but people do it anyway. As the object of all the world's desires given physical form, he can't be seen with such a basic set of eyes. It's what you want right? He can't be doing this for no reason.
Not that I would recommend this anime, but my inspiration for the way Asmodeus's powers work comes from Seven Deadly Sins's avatar of lust Gowther. He is a robot, an artificial life form who wants to understand human emotion and uses his ability to edit people's memories and perception of reality to try and achieve that goal. This Asmo can do much the same, he can warp your mind until you think he looks like your perfect person and he's been around long enough to play pretty much any role, at least for a night. "That's all I'll need" as the saying goes. But he still looks the same. He still has to live with himself and the way he looks, or does he? Is he still himself or is he the perception of the people around him?
He's uh, not doing very well at the moment. Hopefully you'll be somewhat ok with that, he does really value your opinion, MC.

Progress talk thread
I like to take a lot of backups as I draw so we I can show off my widdle Lilly wips!! I'm drawing again that means I get to talk about drawing again yahoo
Tumblr media
Lately when starting a drawing I've been trying to block out very rough thumbnails as seen above! I usually just start drawing like, the head, and trying to then figure out a body under neath and line by line it all ends up pretty similar to my past stuff because it's just not planned out! I don't know where the road is taking me!
Tumblr media
So by starting out and trying to throw together the general pose with just a blown up light brush I'm coming up with much more interesting piece! I can figure out the general shape of the entire piece and then start working on top. No making a shoulder then drawing the hand over it and then erasing the shoulder and getting frustrated because it just doesn't look connected right because I didn't plan it out… where does this drawing end? where's the limits?? where am I going?? So my current workflow involves
Make the dimensions of the piece roughly (just throw a coloured rectangle down) -> very roughly block out the shape of the body within it
This also has the benefit of inspiring me to fill in the blanks with a pose I didn't initially expect! The body is reversed from my initial vague idea because seeing the blobs made me go OH IT'D BE COOL IF I DID IT WITH THE BODY FACING THIS DIRECTION ACTUALLY LET'S MAKE THAT WORK!! If you look at the initial you can kinda see it looks more like she's looking down at you with the raised arm being the one facing you.
Tumblr media
Anyways after doing my personal Holiday pic the other day, I was like, it would be cool to do a small run of postcards to send to people yahoo!! I checked the sizes of postcards and none were even close! They all had like an extra inch on of extra space on the bottom whoops! I free style my rectangle sizes when planning an illustration and I guess they're closer to square than the ideal rectangle! Whoops!
So for this one after getting the initial sketch down I thought, hey how close is this to 5x7? AND LO AND BEHOLD IT WAS THE SAME ISSUE!!! So I took filling out the extra space as a challenge. I'm trying to be more dynamic with my art after all!
I spent time adjusting the piece in sai2 using the transform tool with it's perspective skewing on. I wiggled and rotated and pushed n pulled and you get what you see above. A much more dynamic piece filling out the canvas!
The thing that took the most time in this phase was getting the skirt to a shape I found acceptable.
Tumblr media
Up next was moving towards making it a finished piece!
Thick lineart is something I've been deciding if I want to stick with or not but honestly it's my natural state! I love thick lineart!! I grew up on manga I wanna see some black lines!!! In the future I wanna go back to colouring lineart as well but for now I believe I need to lean into my natural tendencies for thick lines!
I threw down my lineart to a mostly acceptable state, and brainstormed ways to fill the empty space surrounding Lilly. I found there was just a lot of empty space in the bottom left and I didn't really solve that in the final, but that's ok. It's something I'm trying to be aware of as I actually attempt illustrations. I want to finish pieces right now, I'm not in a place where I can let perfectionism slow me down.
Currently my layers are (face) and (lineart) I throw down some flat colours, a light layer above and for once I tried a shade layer too! It might of been a multiply layer. It was probably was. Anyways this is what I was happy with before moving forward with refining it. I'm currently going with more focus on like, backlighting/rimlighting because it's easier to make it work with my no context existing in da void illustrations haha.
Tumblr media
To refine it, right now, I'm playing around with mainly using one layer. So I slammed together my layers other than the face (I made that mistake with my previous piece and that's how we ended up with the eyebrow incident. I wasn't going to put myself in a place where I had to erase an eyebrow again) and started sculpting!
I think sculpting is the best way to describe it, really. It's a lot of slamming down chunky lines, and since the lineart is on the same layer, I'm constantly pushing colours out and finding the ideal shape of both it and the lineart. It helps me push my shapes even farther and let the colours take priority when they need to. Instead of them being separate things I worry about they're all just one big piece!
I was a bit worried about merging the plaid pattern down as well, but I did my best to get the skirt in a place I wasn't going to adjust much after the merge. That was the biggest priority of the previous step really.
It's a lot of fun! I recommend people try it! Try sculpting your lineart a bit!
I added the necklace accessory after since I knew trying to fit it in earlier would also be a pain in the ass haha. I'm not a one layer purist! I'm just having fun!
The background, I went in with no idea for a bg. So this is what we get. I think it works fine for this piece, it's a vtuber attacking you with big fluffy bear claws with no context other than that they are a bear and they're going to fucking get you. Red fits, Lilly has a very orange/red hued design and it's an aggressive attack so the mood works. I could of even gone harder and made it look a bit more splattery but I wasn't sure if I was going to fill up the bottom left space or not.
Looking back maybe I could fit in her name on a cool blood splatter there but I am not a graphic design major my brain is growing slowly in this department thank you
Also fluffy claw gloves usually have much less defined fingers but I couldn't make mitts look good with my initial plans so I stuck with my initial idea!!! Thank u.
Anyways follow Lilly [Twitch]

Souls Foreclosed in Print
Volumes I - V
The results of 2.5 years worth of work on putting Souls Foreclosed to print. These are the “faces” of the comic as a physical object. Volume I in particular went through a lot of changes in its cover art, and last year I replaced it completely when I had it reprinted as the “INFERNO” edition. It and Volume IV share the same fate of not having an actual title, just the title of the arc that starts in them (”Illuminated Apocalpyse” and “Unholy Savior”) because as it turns out, I can get fooled twice. There’s another variant of Volume I which you can see under the cut below.
The original lineart for all of the original three volumes is no longer with me - it was sent off to select people who also got the books. If you know, you know!
Full credit for the artwork on the cover of Volume V “Invictus” goes to @desdemonical (cohost), all I personally did for it was the title font.
The next and hopefully final volume will be split into 3 books because of how long Chapter IX is shaping up to be. I can’t show anything just yet, but the title is going to be “Enchiridion”.

I've been trying for so long to convince myself otherwise, but after today, I just have to admit it: my workplace is a toxic environment. I wish I had made drastically different choices in the past so that I never had to get this job in the first place. But now it seems like I kinda have no other options.

For talk shop tuesday: when you plot, do you tend to keep your plots in your head or do you write them down? Do you have a specific place you keep all your plots?
So sorry this took me so long to answer. It depends honestly. I usually keep most of my plots in my head unless i'm actively going to write it. When I do have something plot relevant (which is usually just dialogue) i put it in my notes app which is probably not good lol

Do you have any posts discussing your path to self publication in depth? I’m pursuing being a hybrid author (pursuing traditional pub first before self publishing which lol is that a mistake?? I guess I’ll find out lolol) and I just love hearing writers I like (I’ve read your Redacted fanfic and listen to Jouska) just discussing their writing journeys at length like I could legit read days and days worth tbh. Even when I don’t know you, reading it makes me feel less alone??? On this journey?? Anyway, you’re a truly lovely writer. Thanks for sharing your gift with all of us!
I don't really have any posts about that, but that's a great idea. I don't usually talk shop much because I have this thing where I worry I'm bothering people all the time. haha It took a lot just to get to the point where I share my fiction without a thousand apologies attached.
How you go about publishing your work has a lot to do with what genre you're writing, whether agents (the way in to large publishing houses) will find it sellable in the market right now, and the length of your books. Certain genres have "acceptable" word counts for their books. Agents and smaller publishers (the ones you can query even without an agent if they're open) will often list what they're looking for and what they're not. The other trick is of course catching them when they're open. You can try some of the twitter pitch events too! I've had some luck with those in other genres.
With my romance novellas, I've gone self pub because I tend to write shorter and that's not usually considered sellable by larger presses, probably because they think people want a certain length but also because they can't charge at the same price points.
PLUS I write a lot. I'm always writing and I have a back log of stories and series constantly piling up in my brain. So I'm not as worried about a book being my one and only shot at getting something out there. It might be a mistake on my side, but it's the way I've gone with the romances.
That being said, I do and plan to continue, to try sending my finished manuscripts that are in the right word count around to open publishers that might be interested. I did it with a contemporary romance I have, but with no particular luck, so I'm going to self publish that one and keep moving.
If you have a finished work you think an agent in your genre would be interested in, it's totally worth it. I don't know about you, but the social/advertising part of authoring is HARD. I'm an introvert. I will absolutely keep trying to get my books into the capable hands of extroverted professionals if nothing else than to give them a better chance of being found by people that might like them.
Oh my gosh, I hope this wasn't too much. I might rally the nerve to post about the editing/formatting/self publishing stuff sometime if you're interested in that aspect.
I hope this was at least somewhat interesting!!! Writing can feel really lonely and I'm glad you reached out! I am really lucky to have found a nice group here on tumblr. Thank you so much for reading my fics and listening to the Jouska audios! <3 <3

(171/?) That I'll wait for you...
A couple of interviews are coming for one of my bands. I'm kinda concerned because, if I'm allowed to write honestly, I kinda dislike most podcasts of that ilk (unorganized conversations and going on tangents for several hours)... on the other hand, I obviously want my band to get some publicity and if that works, fuck it, I'll take it. ---- I just hope I can get my stage fright under control, because with playing live music, I'm just usually focusing on giving the best performance I can to give much of a thought to whatever might be going on with the audience, so I can sorta "fake" my way through a peformance by just going full ham. ---- Interviews/podcasts, however, often necessitate you to be much more active in engaging whoever is talking to you. Fuck it, let's be positive and take it as the big-ass opportunity that it is. I'll just make sure to have my mug of coffee at hand to tackle this with the necessary beverage. See ya' later!

I've been thinking more about the Twisted Wonderland/Tokyo Debunker magical school game story genre thing, wondering about how and why it works and there are a few things that stick out in my train of thought
A lot of it seems to come from how popular Harry Potter was (and for the desire for a suitable replacement given jkr's recent history.) Games are a more recent addition to the genre, but if you look at ya novels in the early 2000s there's a lot of magical school stories, including a lot inspired by fairy tales which twst and td both are.
The house system both games use is a feature of U.K. schooling, and spread to places like Australia but the closest thing to this in the U.S. is how dormitories work in most colleges. Since we're talking twst/td I don't think that a house system exists inside Japanese boarding schools, but it might if there's british style schools in operation in Japan. The details present in Yana's character design make me think she probably did some research about how the school system works since from what I understand the houses are indeed usually named after important historical figures, but again that could be something taken from well you know. And tokyo debunkers got it from twisted wonderland (allegedly).
What really brought all this up in my head was thinking about the role of the protagonist... people really want a game where they can be sorted into a dorm of their choosing and train as a whatever but that's really hard to code and plot when you have multiple dorms, especially if you're plotting a sequential story that releases over time and not all at once. For example, say you got placed into Pomefiore at the start of Twisted Wonderland's story. It would make no sense to not know what is going on with Vil and Epel, or for Riddle's overblot to not put him into direct conflict with Vil, OR you could even argue Yuu to be allowed to attend unbirthday parties and help with the tart making in the first place. It wouldn't make sense for the natural progression of the plot and would be very immersion breaking for readers. But I can't help but feel that the concept of the unaligned protagonist is being a bit underutilized... I should probably think a bit more

Talking Shop | Balloon Shark
With the summer tourist season approaching again, Bruce was already noticing a lot of unfamiliar faces in Whosits and Whatsits. And that was strange, after he had gotten so used to the regulars over the past year. In a way, he felt like he was new in town all over again.
But he wasn’t. It had been a year, and now Bruce knew a lot more than he did then. Mostly thanks to the people who had been friendly and kind to him last year, like Attina. So it was Bruce’s job to show that to other newcomers in return, whether they were moving here or just here to visit.
“Hello!” he greeted as the bell rang and an unfamiliar person entered the shop. “Can I help you find anything?”
