June 2022 | Back in June I got up at a ridiculous hour to catch the MV Frances Barkley, an old converted Norwegen ferry, as she sailed her supply run up the Alberni Inlet and the remote settlements and communities along the way. The West Coast of Vancouver Island is still incredibly remote and hard and dangerous to access by road, and the connection and infrastructure provided by these supply runs is still critical to so many on the coast. Yes, I did all my grocery shopping as a plague doctor today. Since I made a post before I left people were asking what my experience was like? Honestly, OMG this was so fun! I kept getting the giggles every time someone would do a double take. Yes, everyone kept their distance and I had a few people who saw it say it was cool or give me a thumbs up. I had a cashier ask about it . I told her it was a plague doctor mask. Honestly, most people were really cool. I rather enjoy shopping with most my face covered, it definitely helps with my social anxiety. The stores were busy but not crowded and I didn't have to wait in any lines. Though that's why I chose to shop during the afternoon during the week. Sorry, no real instore photos I wanted to get what I needed and get out.
