Considering tomorrow is New Year's Eve I think I should probably be good to consider this finished! I always worry I'll make something I'm super proud of like, right before December ends LOL but I probably won't?... So yeah! My 2023 summary of art :-]

I enjoyed creep 2 IMMENSELY. more than the first one ngl. I like the first one because its just. set up real well. but this one.. this one I was sucked into as soon as josef was called aaron. and sara is Such a good character to have in this sequel. I was worried when I saw there was a creep 2 that it was just gonna be another movie like the first, but I think they really hit the ball outta the park when it came to making an actual good sequel. "aaron" and Sara's relationship is so gripping n mirrors josef and Aaron's in a really really interesting way. and the fact that the real aaron haunts the movie so much, showing us that josef really does think of him as his favorite. the elements that give a lot more meaning to what josef does in the first movie. it's so *chefs kiss*
I think my only complaint would be the ending. it felt very "gotta leave it open ended in case we wanna make a third movie later on". I wouldv liked to leave it in the woods, as both a parallel to the first movie and tying back to what "aaron" said would happen earlier. tho I guess I wouldnt mind seeing what sara would do next if another movie was made (also assuming sara would be a part of it)

A decade of art (and also the entirety of my teen years)!
I was only intending to put together my 2022 summary of art, seeing as I hadn’t made that yet-- and then found I also hadn’t made my 2021 summary, and fell down a rabbit hole of nostalgia from there :)
It’s interesting how as I progress as an artist, I’m less and less repulsed by my “old“ work-- like my December 2021 piece is STILL one of my favorites, and one I try to keep up with sorta. And yet, on the flipside, things I know I was proud of last year, two years ago, I’d do so much differently now. My idea of “good” art is different every year-- for a lot of the late teens I REALLY wanted to be an MCU concept artist so realism was what I strove for. But nowadays I’m really embracing simplification in ways I know I never could have before. I talked to my illustration professor about this, and he said something along the lines of, “It’s okay that it took you this long for it to click-- that’s why there’s four years of schooling.” I’m graduating in a few months and there’s still so much I don’t understand and I still feel a lot like the 12 year old using a mouse and GIMP/Paint.NET vector paths to draw. The nice part about still feeling like a kid, though, is that it’s still so much fun to do :)

the nature of warrior cats is that when you first read it you get so hyped over firestars journey from kittypet to leader but then as you read on you get more annoyed by how the series just cant let him go and no matter who the protags are or what this arc’s plot is it always has to go back to firestar so you get firestar fatigue but then you go years without reading a single warriors book to where you only remember basic plot beats and your fondness for certain characters so you wrap right around to getting hyped about firestar
