Well lucky for you, I’ve got just the thing — our conversation with the dynamic and talented Nichelle Pace. As the president and founder of Brand Enchanting Media, Nichelle brings over 20 years of experience to the table to help her clients with a variety of creative services.

After a brief 2020 recap, Nichelle talked about her process for working with clients, and we spoke about why she started the consultancy and how the market has changed as culture changes. She also spoke on growing up in New Jersey, as well as her previous careers in film and video production and advertising. We even talked about her popular blog Stylemom and how Black bloggers from the early 2000s grew into some of the cultural trendsetters we know today. Este mes, en dos fechas distintas, festejamos al ser que nos cargo en su vientre y después nos trajo al mundo. Hoy te comparto brevemente el origen de esta festividad (en EUA y México) y mi Top 5 de mamás con estilo digno de admiración.

El origen contemporáneo de la celebración del Día de las Madres se remonta a 1865-1868 en Estados Unidos, cuando Ann María Reeves Jarvis organizaba reuniones con otras madres donde trataban cuestiones sobre sus derechos, más tarde, en 1870 Julia Ward Howe, poetisa y activista, escribió la Proclamación del Día de la Madre haciendo un llamado para convocar un congreso general de mujeres para promover la alianza entre diferentes nacionalidades y un arreglo amistoso para lograr la paz y el desarme.

Los congresos logrados a lo largo del país se fueron apagando, mientras J. Howe continuo trabajando por los derechos de las mujeres. En 1907, Ana Jarvis quiso conmemorar el fallecimiento de su madre y organizo una reunión como Día de la Madre y nuevamente se extendió una campaña por todo Estados Unidos.

Finalmente, en 1914 el presidente Woodrow Wilson declaro como Día de la Madre el segundo domingo de mayo.

La tradición emigro cuando Rafael Alducín, un periodista originario de Puebla, decidió que era necesario homenajear a la madre y, emulando la tradición gringa, comenzó una convocatoria el 13 de abril de 1922 para institucionalizar el Día de las Madres, logrando que el 10 de mayo del mismo año se festejara por primera vez en México.
