#To Shape A Dragon’s Breath #aroaessidhe 2023 reads #this is really really good i loved it!#the chapter titles are all like snippets of a story. or like sentence fragments that match up. which is cool #it is definitely more about being indigenous in a coloniser institution than Dragon School - not Super dragon heavy if you want that #I suspect the subsequent books will get into that when she gets big enough to ride and stuff #t’s also def YA! i’ve seen a few ppl assume it’s adult and be like its very young :( but like. I mean its perfectly reasonable for a 15yo m #definitely a Lot of racism and colonialism which is not fun to read! though it's still through a YA lens. there was def a part of me that #was imagining consequences of the narrative as if it were an adult novel #on that line of thought - at the end a lot of it is kind of solved by them going to the king and he's is like. oh no racism is happening?#that's bad i'll deal with those people! which felt like. a little simplistic. but maybe the easiest way to end the narrative for book 1 -#I don't think the author ACTUALLY is going to portray the king as a Good Guy throughout the series - it just felt conveniently like -#a simple YA solution to some very big and complex elements? if that makes sense? (but again - it is YA so it's allowed I suppose!)#some of the worldbuilding (like all the science learning) is probably setup for next books - we don’t really see any practical application #the romances are also subtle and not Overbearing In Book One which i like - leave some space for the series!#also her getting fanmail from a 10yo mixed race girl who looks up to her 🥺#anyway. i really loved it!#oh also it reminded me a little of leviathan. i guess just the steampunk/time period/european culture....#To Shape A Dragon's Breath

life is just throwing me for an absolute loop these days, but im starting my adventure into javascript :) i didn't do a ton of coding today, but i learned about the history of javascript as well as 2 ways of running it in the browser, both in html files within the script tag and in an REPL (also one way of declaring a variable cause i think there are others but im not sure) <3

#this is exciting for me cause its like the first 'functional' language that im learning #which for me is like more than just aesthetics like html and css were #even though i definitely still need to continue practice with those i feel like building projects with javascript will let me practice all #codeblr #progblr #100 days of code #html #studyblr

I think wonky art deserves all the love in the world. I'd much rather see a funky collage/wobbly lineart combo that has a strong Vibe than like. A perfectly proportioned, regularly colored, stiff drawing of someone at a front angle that shows off someone's technical skill. Like, make your art weird and whacky!!!!! Lean into the stuff you like to do, even if it doesn't look 'good' yet!! Over time your skills will evolve & you'll get better no matter what, but the more you like to draw the easier it will be to get yourself to sit down & do it!!!!!!

#I'm at an art school and my sibling is taking fine art over at a normal college and his school cares So Much about making 'good' art #it seems really demoralizing to have to do like. shading practice and still lives for a semester b4 getting to move on #at my school we do some of that but usually if you have something else you wanna do the prof won't make a fuss #the crits are way more intense at my school though. you WILL learn what a hegemony is by the end of freshman yr #talking at you whether you like it or not

As some of you might’ve seen: I’m no longer posting art on Twitter, so Tumblr is now the only social media I’ll be consistently posting art to. However: I’ll also be posting it to my website and possibly other social media platforms in the future.

I also post monthly sketch pages to my Patreon (April’s is on this post) with early access for Patrons, and I’m hoping to add more things to it soon!

I was really pushing out quick things #not progressing as an artist since I wasn’t practicing besides trying to be faster #So I’m shifting gears more now and doing things that aren’t art as hobbies #Learnt to make my website! Want to keep developing it too and making layouts for other people #Learning auslan (Aussie sign language) and having an amazing time!#mostly getting back into education since I really love learning things #haven’t been in a class for years and it’s been a big boost to my mental health #still have financial worries but not as badly now thankfully #Anyway I’ll probably be posting less art until I figure out what works for me #though less art is better than the NONE that happens when I’m exhausted and having a bad time #Hopefully I’ll start to really enjoy the process again and start getting more ideas #(ideas are so hard to come up with!)

#moe tag #sorry i won't shut up about it but you gotta understand. this is the most eventful thing that's happened in like months #also i just really wanna apply what i learned about it to moe. torture the creature some more #BUT ALSO... LIKE..... i think about writing refs and health/safety refs and also best practice #ESP when treating a patient or being a caretaker all the time.#before the disability disabled me LMFAO i really wanted to go into working to help people w disabilities #i was so high masking and 'functional' (but like. still very much on the spectrum) that i had each foot in both worlds kinda #i wasn't exactly sure what line of work but i very much wanted to give back the way the people who believed in me did.#esp as a kid. i had so many behavioral issues. teachers actively dreaded and feared having to deal w me.#the few and far between teachers/social workers who saw me though. believed in me. treated me kindly. stuck forever #unfortunately i really don't think i'm cut out for that line of work esp after covid changed The Vibes of everything lmfao #i would love to give hope in a hopeless world. but i fear i've slipped through the cracks.#my art

#fursuit #fursuit friday #furry #clean furry #furry fandom #this is the first suit i ever sold! it was certainly not perfect but i learned a lot from it #in total though it was my fifth head! the previous ones were all practice or personal suits #i will be refurbing some of them to sell soon!#the hardest thing about selling fursuits is actually finding a good place to take photos lol #because you dont want anyones houses in the background for privacy purposes. but you dont want to be in too public a place either #so needless to say this isnt my house and these photos took a few tries to turn out well and the lighting is still pretty poor #because it was a cloudy day #but i think my photography improved a lot in my more recent suits which ill also be posting #deer #dog #reindeer #canine #cervine

#my art #the band ghost #nameless ghoul oc #i mostly wanted practice making a character sheet ish thingy #and by god i got that #had to work hard for her colors which is not usually a problem for me #and the silhouette flip like if your character doesnt have a tail then bam its done and no one will notice the small problems #but it doesnt work with a tail if you want perspective i had to redraw/move her tail around to make it look right so. learned that very much #i like the layout concept though thats nice #i have a whole backstory for her. she was part of a group summon and it all went fine except that one person was missing and they ended up #with a statue. she was too terrified to talk to anyone so she got left there and after it sounded empty she reverted and found some place to #hide in the gardens. so she lives there now. and ruins a lot of socks. and helps with the plants not that anyone knows that. and panics and #turns to stone if anyone walks by. so everyone does realize theres a moving shifting statue in the abbey but no one is sure what to do about #that. doesnt speak much if at all. doesnt steal a new shirt bc people notice if those go missing unlike socks. has anxiety bitch face also #yeah. and like. i dont know what a fandom is and i certainly dont know what a music is and thats why ill likely not do anything with her #which kinda sucks. but i still made her a character sheet cause she wont leave me alone. and for the practice #cause if i think about doing a sheet for story ocs i get all perfectionist and it doesnt happen #the luck thing is that she kinda thinks being summoned was a curse #im gonna shut up now

i believe in you so much and i also want you to know that crochet is imo so much easier for a beginner and worth a shot at some point!! i learned crochet after learning the absolute basics of knitting and had more fun with crochet i must say… but all of it is so fun and you’ll have a blast regardless. go forth and make scarves!!

hello!! thank you!! i have heard that crochet is easier, i liked the idea of knitting more though so i wanted to give that a go first!! i am really enjoying it so far but id like to try them both eventually : ^ )

#even though im still learning and getting confused when the knitting goes well im finding it extremely relaxing!! i just need longer needles #n then ill start my scarf...although i did have a practice today and somehow found that i cast on twelve stitches and then ended up with #fifteen. still not sure how that happened....but i am excited to do more of it!!!

Every time someone uses last sunrise to talk about how much they hate shinobu I want to get out a spray bottle and repeatedly use it on them. Like no actually this fic is just as much a love letter to shinobu as it was to renkaza this is not a place for ppl who hate her this is a place where we come to discuss and understand her better

#I didn’t write shinobu the way I did in the fic because I hate her #(which anyone who knows me knows I obviously don’t hate her anyways)#I also didn’t write her that way for the sake of making her a ‘villain’#the point was to push her character to the extreme and eventually break her and her intensively created mask in a highly specific way #it was to highlight her particular traumas and coping mechanisms #it was to better EXPLORE her #what she did to kyojuro was just as much about her own character development as his #I didn’t have her suicide attempt be thwarted in the last chapter specifically to torture her by making her live #(though it is true that part of her ‘punishment’ was being forced to live with the guilt and consequences of her actions)#Kyojuro stopped her suicide in that chapter because she needed to find peace and a happy ending whilst still being alive #just as much as kyojuro did #like that was the point. the point was that they both practically drove each other towards suicide #and they both needed to pick up the pieces and learn to live with everything they did/everything they went to #shinobu tortured kyojuro to the point of him wanting to die #and kyojuro tortured shinobu to the point of wanting to die #they BOTH had to live after that #IT WAS NEVER ABOUT HATING SHINOBU #not for kyojuro and not for the reader!!!!!!!!#I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again #ITS NOT A FIC FOR PPL WHO HATE SHINOBU #kaz rambles
