it's almost 2023 and I just want to get a little bit sappy here for a moment.

2022 was a big year for me for a lot of reasons. some great, some not so great, and the theme of the year was reconnecting with pieces of myself that ended up scattered after several years that were unkind, at best.

when I watched the new season of Stranger Things this summer, covid-ridden and miserable, I did not expect for that to change my life. no hyperbole. joining this fandom and meeting all of you has changed my life. when we find a new community that gets us, that lets us be ourselves and explore creative bits that have been buried away for years, that leaves a mark. and you all have.

I stopped writing seven years ago when I was in a situation that required me to drop things that caused conflict. unfortunately, writing was one of them. and even after getting out of that situation and now being years into the healthiest place I've been in life, writing stayed on the back-burner. it'd been buried so deep, that something needed to truly rock me to remind that oh! I can do things simply because I enjoy them again! (and then Eddie Munson entered the chat, lmao.) every comment, every kudos, every message, every reply- I cannot tell you all how much they mean to me.

and now here I am! I've written more in this year between published and yet-to-be-published works than I could've dreamed of at the start of this year. I've made friends that have breached fandom-exclusive containment. I joke a lot, but I feel so truly lucky to have somehow found myself dragged by the ankles back onto tumblr and back into the fanfiction sphere. fanfiction is such a gift and I just adore all of you!

I'm so excited to see what new words and new magic we collectively create in the coming year!

I can't believe 2023 is over, honestly. This year has had some ups and downs for sure but overall I'm so proud of what I've achieved. I started the year mainly writing Stranger Things fics, and while I still love that fandom and all of the wonderful people I met there, my inspiration for writing it was beginning to fade.

And along came 9-1-1. I am so happy with where I've ended up, and for all the new friends I've made since I found this show back in April!

Whoever his dad dates, well. They'll probably leave, eventually. Chris doesn’t need to worry about them. Or: Eddie and Buck come to Chris with some news, and he doesn't take it very well at all.

Eddie tried not to stare. He really tried. He didn't notice at first, too preoccupied with the tub of pringles he'd been making his way through while talking about Corroded Coffin's last gig. Sure, he'd noticed the shorts. The ridiculous amount of leg Steve was showing, the way they hugged his ass, but it wasn't until Steve moved, lifted one foot to rest on the cushion, knees spread, that Eddie noticed another feature of the shorts. Or: Steve puts on a bit of an accidental show.

I want to finish posting all of the WIPs which are already on ao3, post my s7 fic before March 14, keep working on all the WIPs I have in my docs and of course write more and keep sharing!

I was tagged by the lovely @callieb and I decided to do it again after some hard thinking.

1.ride or die ship (your otp): Harringrove

2. most annoying ship: any ship that has Mike Wheeler in it, he annoys the hell out of me.

3. second favourite ship: I don't really read anything that's not Harringrove but when I do it's a tie between Hellcheer and Munver (extra points if background Harringrove).

4. favourite platonic relationship: Robin and Steve definitely. Special mention to Max and El as well.

5. underrated ship: Billy and Heather friendship

6. overrated ship: I wanna say Steddie because the push from the rabid fans has been scary. Non rabid fans welcome to it, though

7. one thing i would change in canon: Apart from Billy's demise? The Stancy revival in ST4. Or like, season 4 as a whole...

8. something canon did right: Max, Steve and Robin friendship, Max and El friendship

9. a thing i'm proud of creating for the fandom PLEASE BRAG ABOUT YOURSELF I WANT TO SEE/READ YOUR ART: My July 4 fic, definitely better than being dead. It went really angsty on me but it's sweet with a happy ending, because I'm all about the happy ending. Also my Harringrove Micro Poems!! I love them so much.

10. a character who is perfect to me (wouldn't change a thing): Joyce.

11. the character i relate to the most and why: Joyce (tired mums unite), Robin (I talk too much and tend to overshare), Max (sarcasm)

12. character(-s) i hate the most and why: Neil, for obvious reasons. Karen, for not putting a stop to the thing with Billy. I have kids the age Billy was and ew ew ew no way.

13. something i've learned from the fandom: Use the block button freely, it will make your experience so much better. The ST fandom seems very toxic but the Billy fandom is a haven of lovely people and full of friends I love.

14. three tags i seek out on ao3: I don't really, because when I look for a tag, I end up making a list of fics and post that list on tumblr. I do like College AU fics and soulmates AU fics.

15. a song i strongly associate with my otp/favourite character: Right now, Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've) by the Buzzcocks is helping me work on my Harringrove Big Bang fic. You Got It also helped me write a fic (one you'll have to wait to read). Separate Ways by Journey is a very harringrove coded song. Oh and 5SoS songs.

Thoughts on Episode 5: Dig Dug

The Steve and Dustin bromance begins. I love it.

Lumax is ASDFGHJKJHGFDS such a good ship.

I am 100% dooming him by saying this, and y’all probably already know, but fuuuuuck i loved Bob in this episode. He just… good. And sweet. And earnest. I am firmly a Joyce/Hopper shipper, but goddamn.

Thoughts on Episode 6: The Spy

SO. MUCH. STEVE. Is it my birthday? Nah that was a few weeks ago, lol.

First mention of the fandom-infamous Farrah Fawcett spray. Steeeeeeve you absolute babygirl.

Steve finally becoming the Badass Babysitter with a Bat that he was born to be. Uuuuuugh I love him so much.

Every scene with Erica is asdfghjkl and I’m so glad I’ll get to see her a bit more in S3 (Scoops Troop, whoop whoop!).

The bit with Hopper trying to talk to El, not knowing she’s gone? My hearrrrrrrt. I need their little Family Unit to be mended.

Murray, aka Cupid. I like that half-silly fandom headcanon that he couldn’t be around the main group in S4 because he would have sussed out the Steddie vibes immediately. Certainly had Jancy down right away at least, lol.

Last random note: I have absolutely NO IDEA how to feel about Ted Wheeler, lol. Every now and then he’ll do something that has me almost liking him. Only to follow it up by being terribly uncool. Like I said, idk what to think of him.

Might finish it up tomorrow night. Might not. If the vibes are right, we’ll see.

I really want to get to S3 though. Finally seeing Scoops!Steve in action? Hnnnnnnnnnng I might not survive. If I don’t, remember me how I was my friends, lol.

random but what are your unpopular stranger things opinions?

mine are as followed:

billy did not deserve a redemption arc. at all.

once they decided to add a russian subplot whether the spies or the prison, the show started to fall off

the lab side plot took too fucking long and having el lose her powers is sexist

steddie is cute sometimes in fanon but the way some of yall act should be studied.

vecna giving nancy a vision was a great cliffhanger but it went nowhere

when you move will from the center of the show to the side it greatly suffers

lucas sinclair is the best friend out of the friend group and they should have gone to his basketball game.

kali is overhated

erica sinclair is not annoying, she’s a little sister archetype, yall are just racist.

erica had the potential to fall into SBW stereotype but priah’s acting shut that shit down.

the duffer brothers have no idea what to do with jonathan, they haven’t for awhile.

season 3 robin and season 4 robin feel like two different characters

even though he is my husband, eddie is dead and to be honest, should stay that way because the duffer brothers wrote him into a corner with death or prison as the only solution.

nancy never misses and deserves more of a story arc.

with the exception of lumax, the duffers do not know how to write meaningful romantic relationships.

eddie is eddie, not eds. i don’t know why this annoys me.

this fandom has a very sexist and racist undercurrent and needs to understand that what a headcanon is to you is not a fact nor reality to anyone else.

younger st fans and older st fans need to unite to defeat our own true enemy, “ ______ is cringe” fans.

okay so it really bothers me how tons of steddie fanfics headcanon wayne as being super biased towards steve when he and eddie become friends/start dating.

and they like make wayne compare steve to his dad and shit like that and it just really rubs me the wrong way.

like wayne legit raised eddie he of all people should understand not turning out like ur dad. and obv steve's dad is a jerk (that is a front the fandom is united upon).

but i feel like its more like wayne loves his little boy and eddie is basically his son so of course he wants the best for him. cus eddie definetly came home after school some days and complained about "stupid king steve and his stupid hair and his stupid girlfriends"(and wayne wrote it off as steve being a jerk and eddie was mad about that).

but in reality eddie had like the biggest crush on steve (think draco from harry potter) and didn't know how to deal with those feelings so he just assumed they were because he hated steve and didn't think anything of it.

and then all the shit with vecna happens and eddie wakes up to steve sitting by his bedside with massive dark circles and worry lines and the biggest smile when he sees eddie's eyes open.

and eddie realizes "oh SHIT!"

because that hatred in highschool was definitely not hatred and definitely something else and now steve is gonna hate him because now he's even more of a freak.

and poor wayne is just oblivious to the whole thing. (he obv had an inkling that his nephew was gay but didn't ever say anything because they don't talk about that shit)

so wayne and eddie are just chilling in the trailer and steve comes over to change eddie's bandages or smth and wayne is confused because this? this nervous young man with dark circles and fidgeting hands and a tote bag of bandages and meds this is king steve? the same king steve that eddie used to complain about every day because of his attitude and his face and his hotness....

and wayne munson realizes something about his nephew that day...
