every day i think about the little gay space novel with the kinda unassuming cover that painted such a heartbreaking yet hope filled tale of human resilience and stubbornness to survive and love that transcends literal lives and light years and that gave me more of an existential crisis than the fear of god herself could put into me and every day i have yet not a soul to talk to about it

I'm running a 25% sale on everything on my shop for the next week, please take a look if you want some bookish art or have a bookish persons birthday coming up!
I haven't had much time to do art since starting a new job a couple months ago, but things have calmed down a bit, so you can also get in touch with any custom requests/commissions

“Plant a tree, raise a child, write a book” doesn’t mean you need to do those exact things. It means do good for the Earth, give support to future generations, and leave something of your life’s lessons behind.
You don’t have to plant a literal tree (although it’s great fun to do). You can donate to environmental organizations. Garden. Clean up some trash. Advocate for sustainable practices. Offset some carbon. Rescue some animals.
You don’t have to literally raise a child. You can teach. Be a mentor. Be an ally or other kind of support. Help younger voices be heard. Volunteer.
You don’t have to write a literal book. You can make music. Art. Dance. Write code that matters to you. But express yourself! Speak your truth! Let it linger, not just on a platform but in some physical form that others could someday see.
The part that’s easy to miss is while these 3 things seem to be about the future, they are really about NOW.
Do some small act of love for the Earth today. Give some small care to a younger person today. Express yourself today. Find ways to do these things regularly, and your NOW will shape the future.

nora going from writing an ace-spec main to a (probably allosexual) bi main, and the difference is so chef's kiss. they're both disasters don't get me wrong, but jean having attraction in his inner monologue even with the trauma he's been through implies to me that neil's demisexuality has absolutely nothing to do with his trauma. hilarious in retrospect because, if i remember correctly, neil in his inner monologue basically blames his lack of sexual attraction on his mother's abuse the few times he kissed girls when he was on the run, but he doesn't have a single sexual thought until andrew lets him in on his feelings in book three,,, meanwhile jean's out here actively fighting his bisexuality like his life depends on it (he thinks it does) (he'll learn it doesn't eventually)

Listen to me. If you want your media literacy to improve, you have to consume a variety of media. And I don't just mean a variety of genres or a variety of writers or a variety of target demographics (though absolutely those as well), I mean a variety of mediums. Read books. Watch TV. Watch films. Listen to radio plays. Watch theatre productions. Watch documentaries. Read comics and graphic novels. Goddammit read fanfic and watch youtube videos as well, just for the love of god have variety. Learn to recognise how different mediums convey themes and information in different ways. It's like food groups, you need a little bit of all of them to be healthy.

Eliot Schrefer tweeted a review that said "it's like if interstellar came out as gay and then pushed me down a flight of stairs" and yeah. yes. god I love this book

the foxhole court takes place in 2006-2007, which means that at one point Allison must have told Nicky that he was acting like a bitch and Nicky replied with the iconic comeback "a bitch is a dog. a dog barks. bark is on a tree. trees are part of nature, and nature is beautiful. so thank you for calling me beautiful :)" and then Allison immediately smacked him
