Lǎobǎn's Recipes

(From the ending credits of 2017 Chinese drama adaptation of Midnight Diner: 深夜食堂)

Ep 2: Angel's Hamburger

1. Prepare minced beef. Mince broccoli, onion and bellpepper, cabbage, purple onions, cucumber.

Add cheese powder and mix into the fillings. Add milk, melted butter, flour, black pepper powder, salt, nutmeg powder.

2. Pound the meat paste well till air bubbles are removed and shape it as a patty. Fry both sides well till caramelised. Fry the bacon as well.

Deep fry the fries until golden brown. Lightly fry the purple onion. Stir fry the egg and place it on a serving plate.

Lightly oven-toast the hamburger, add in the patty with a prefered sauce.

Ep 3: Steamed Clams with Wine

Place washed clams on a steamer. Add chopped garlic, salt, wine to the clams and steam.

After, sprinkle some more wine per your preference.

Mum went out to pack Lunch for us as we are working from home. For herself, she just picked sweet & sour lemon chicken with sweet crunchy peanuts and crispy fried dried anchovies. Sis also had two dishes of long beans stir-fry and poached chicken with minced garlic sauce.

My Packed Lunch was the most scrumptious of all. Mum had already picked three dishes of steamed fish fillet with minced garlic & gingers, stir-fried pork slices and sweet & sour pork. Then she saw the spicy Venus clams or lala (啦啦) and decided to add it in for me too.

So Episode Two…

Doctor Tanaka Reed can fuck right off! The entire time he was on screen I wanted to punch him in the face. Pretty sure he’s gonna end up actually killing someone if he keeps up with that attitude!

Look at Ethan trying to help this new kid and encourage him, he’s come so far from being that tight ass from season one 🥹

But I think the main thing is …the way despite having literally nothing and his world falling apart, the way Will was with Henry melted my damn heart, I mean sure I’m 24 weeks pregnant and I’m more hormones than human at this point, but honestly it was just the sweetest thing 🥹

Although the last scene with the wrecking ball beginning to tear down the apartment block …when it cut to Will and you could hear the demolition in the background …that was also the sound of my heart breaking for him 🥺
