some Thoughts on the halo tv show🧐
idk whether or not ppl are still avoiding s1 spoilers but either way this will be Long so, below the cut✌
(@helix-studios117 you'll enjoy this probably)
INITIAL REACTION. like 5/10.
- it is funny to me the amount of latin and classical shit in this show, as a classics student "new carthage" and the big slogan on the wall (i could only see "per mare, per (?), per (?)" and all that other shit is SO funny. and cool
- i saw a lot of bad things abt this so my opinion is a bit pre-jaded BUT i see know i think a lot of those bad reactions are well-founded. the writing is decent, tbh, not awful, but too fast. exposition is sloppy, which is expected bc they are trying to aim for both audiences who have been exposed to halo and audiences who have not. but STILL. better to over expose a bit than to leave me with questions (though i also recognize i have barely scratched the surface of halo myself)
- that said, QUESTIONABLE decisions made: no reason for pablo schreiber to be totally naked in that scene. sorry but no. for me it not only felt unnecessary but weird for them to want to get master chief naked - the camera doesn't sexualize him i don't think, but still it was strange. also why did that other doctor dude go in to kiss halsey's double? also in general some dialogue felt kinda forced and boring.
- cinematographically, it looks good. it's pretty normal but looks nice, and there were a few shots or scenes that seemed particularly well framed or shot. the mjolnir armor looks good imo! not AS production value porn as rings of power, which is fun. i especially enjoyed the aesthetic of the scene of john walking around his old house and the shot of him kneeling behind his younger self.
- i don't really mind maskless chief, but i think they're overdoing it with him keeping the helmet off 90% of the time. i think it was inevitable we'd see his face at some point but it's being done very lazily and in a way that destroys part of chief as a character. i think taking it off in ep1 was ridiculous (i also think chief defecting 25 mins into ep1 was ridiculous) and i believe a much more powerful moment to remove the helmet was ep4 after you get all the close up internal shots in the helmet as he's viewing cortana's remaking of his old home. would've been way more powerful to have perhaps snippets of john's face, too close or distant to make anything really connect, before a big reveal.
- i also dislike that the reasoning to keep his mask off so much is that pablo schreiber said you can't form an emotional connection to a masked character if you dont see their face. like it's okay to think that.....but you're just insanely wrong. do you know what show you're in???? do you know the character you have been hired to portray? have you ever seen star wars or played video games? have you ever read a book? when we watched the mandalorian we were all so insanely hyped about what mando looked like DESPITE THE FACT WE ALL KNOW WHAT PEDRO PASCAL LOOKS LIKE. LIKE PLEASE ((also i've written 500k words of fic based around an elder scrolls DLC character whose entire persona is wearing a mask, has no actual canon face, and whom you kill at the end of his DLC. sorry pablo you are just wrong))
- i've seen some ppl complain abt chief having a "real boy" plotline and how stupid that is, which i partially disagree with. i think it's REALLY interesting to suggest and explore the possibility of him and other spartans being able to lift themselves out of being killing machines and glimpse how estranged they are from their humanity, and what exactly has been done to them to estrange them, but i do think the show is laying it on WAY TOO MUCH, WAY TOO FAST. again w strange writing, lacking exposition, and poor pacing. we never really know or see chief to establish him as a Character before he goes rogue.
overall, interesting, but has SO much potential to be way better in a thousand different ways. i have no idea how this was marketed, if they said it would be a good adaptation, but ANY adaptation of a game or book nowadays seems to fall into the trap of "we made a thing! oh no one who likes the source material likes our thing and also we changed the plotlines irrevocably so now we have to say that we're using an "alternate timeline" or our own made up version. but somehow we still get funding" (((cough fucking cough the shitass wheel of time amazon show))) not godawful so i'll probs finish s1 and see how it ends, at the very least it's kinda interesting and i don't know enough about halo to hate it completely. however i know chief smashes a covenant leader which is just 😭 like COME ON PEOPLE. rly?
- that being said i don't HATE the idea of the pellet but there is also something to be said for the immense strength of a lifetime of augmentation, being spoonfed propaganda, institutional lies, and being manipulated both physically and mentally - all of that seems to carry a heavy weight compared to the pellet, which seems almost trivial and a lazy explanation as to "why Spartans are as they are". if they had tried to actually dive into the literal ways the UNSC alters and controls the minds of these people rather than here's a thing that's mostly responsible for keeping you in check, now dig it out with a knife, it could have been SO much more interesting.
- some positives: i like that they are getting the weirdness of halsey and john's relationship. it's meant to feel uncomfortable to us viewers i think, since they have a strange relationship based on manipulation and lies and secrets and etc etc. i also love silver team ofc
also pablo schreiber while i have never seen him in anything else is trying too hard for the chief voice and sounds bad. except at one point in ep1 he raised his voice and it actually sounded so much better lmfao🤪 in general he does an okay job as chief, but again, this chief is pretty un-chieflike. i'm open to other people's thoughts and opinions, good or bad! this is just my take so far on the first 4 eps and my very limited knowledge of halo :3

Only Friends Music Ep4 (part 2/2)
Part one covers the first half of Ep4, or you can find other episodes on my pinned comment.
This is a series of posts taking a closer look at the music of Only Friends. Reminder, Playing with the music is like body language, it moves with the conversation. Verbal says something either through lyrics or something like a song title.
This is a long one, but if your curious about Sand and Ray, they're the first and two last songs. The middle ones are Top, Mew, and Nick.
[2/4 cont.]
Tumblr media
Song: Almost The Same by Peter Crosby Scene: Ray and Sand in guitar store Type: Vocal
Lyrics heard in the show:
Stay in at home Turn off the phone I will listen to you You’ll lay in the sheets You’ll hold on to me Like I’m already gone
Lyrics continue, not in the show:
And whisper your words Like secrets written in an old mole skin And look up above Sunlight seems like it is gonna break in Something ain’t right Yeah, something ain’t right Oh, something ain’t right Something ain’t right You’ll straighten my shirt Wearing the skirt That my mother gave to you I come up behind ya And kiss on the side of your neck [a few or if you] Turn off the lights The stars in the sky are turning so clear And without the words Your feelings unheard can be just as sincere (Chorus) Walk in the leaves Under the trees With your tennis shoes on And holding my hand to spin you around And I sing you a song Taking a breath Like taking yourself to the hospital And I feel ok Almost the same But I know I’m not healed Something ain’t right
Before the song, Ray reaches out, trying to fix things. His first few tries are horrible failures, he doesn’t know how to behave with Sand. He’s used to people accepting his money or berating him, not expecting much from him. When Sand admits that it hurt to be thrown away, Ray finally realizes he needs to repeat to Sand that he does care, like he did in the parking lot earlier, “I do care about your feelings, that’s why I’m here.” Sand sees that Ray has been trying in his own way to make up for leaving the night before, and Ray is open and absorbs Sand's criticism, that Ray shouldn't drag him around and then throw him away as you see fit, people have feelings.
But they have not actually addressed the root problems, Mew and their own fears and baggage. The only way they’ll truly understand each other is to talk, which they have finally started to do. Sand went from denying feeling anything to admitting he was hurt. While Ray started to listen to what Sand was wanting from him.
They still know this relationship is not quite right though, and the song here reflects the underlying problems woven through their pretending to be okay. Song ends “You hold onto me like I’m already gone” and the scene changes to the record store.
Tumblr media
Song: Acrobat by Martin Hall Scene: Sand and Ray looking through albums at the record store Type: Vocal
Lyrics heard in show:
There's nothing wrong with that Tripping, yeah, we all lose track I wouldn't mind it, if I find it There's nothing wrong with that Don't have to be an acrobat I wouldn't mind it, should I find it? All my life It's been up and down but always comes back to you Didn't ask for any favors It seems too late Love is strong but some things you don't wanna pass on Didn't ask for any favors You don't know me The way that I know you Tell me what you like Please tell me what you like There's nothing wrong with that
Lyrics not in Show:
Tripping, yeah, we all lose track I wouldn't mind it, if I find it There's nothing wrong with that Don't have to be an acrobat I wouldn't mind it, should I find it? Oh Father, please come to my rescue I was caught up in your landscape Oh, please tell me Now what am I supposed to do? I was caught up in your landscape … So that's how it's gonna be There'll be no more second chances So that's how it's gonna be There'll be no more second chances We let it all go to waste (we let it all go) x3
The lyrics included in the show seem to talk about how to find the right path, we don’t have to be pushing beyond ourselves and into impossible feats. An acrobat does amazing feats to get from one place to another, gracefully flipping through the air. Ray is so stuck in the past that he feels like there are these huge gaps that he needs to be an acrobat to get out of the “landscape” he’s stuck in. We see this in his acrobatic efforts to make Sand happy by offering to buy his time, or a guitar, or asking Sand to scold him. He’s trying to be an acrobat by worrying about all the bands he doesn’t know. Sand is telling Ray he doesn't need to do the impossible, he just needs to steadily move towards the right path, and he can learn one band at a time, if he wants. Sand is also stuck in his landscape, doing the impossible with his 24 hours to get enough money to pay his mom’s debt, his schooling, and saving for the future.
Music and lyrics start as Sand answers Ray’s question about what bands he likes to listen to, and continues to play under their conversation. Given Ray and Sands previous bonding over the music in Ray’s home, it’s quite possible Ray took him there for the purpose of finding mutual ground, and Ray’s face as he tries to get to know Sand through music, and discovers he doesn’t recognize the bands Sand lists, highlight the differences between them in so many aspects of their lives. Ray is there on that day as a part of Sand’s world, and even though he is very much out of his depth in nearly every place they go he is trying his best to connect with the parts of Sand’s world he doesn’t understand. They may have been stuck in places they did not choose for themselves, but they are beginning to make their way towards a shared path which may end up being better for both of them
There's nothing wrong with that Tripping, yeah, we all lose track I wouldn't mind it, if I find it There's nothing wrong with that Don't have to be an acrobat I wouldn't mind it, should I find it?
Ray wants to find his way in life again, and seems to be willing to grow and change for Sand. Again, he doesn’t need to be an acrobat, simply realizing he has more to offer than money is a good start.
You don't know me The way that I know you Tell me what you like Please tell me what you like
Sand says that Ray only listens to the songs that his parents listened to, that “Try to open your mind and listen to new bands”. Ray uses music to process his emotions, and Sand giving him new music to listen to might give him a new way of looking at the world.

Song: Gonna Get You by Camelian Glade Scene: Boston and Top in the elevator Type: Vocal, Playful
Song starts with Boston catching the elevator Top is on. It pauses for a while until Boston puts his hand on Top’s shoulder to push him into the wall. This song highlights Boston’s predatory and possessive nature. When Top pushes him off Boston is hurt and falls back to reminding Top that Ray and Mew are messing with his head. Top pushes back “You just can’t stand the fact that I don’t want you any more.” Which hits the nail on the head, just Top is seeing it too late. The damage is done. The only lyrics, “Gonna get you now” play when the doors open and Boston storms out.
Tumblr media
Song: Told Ya by Ballpoint Scene: Nick goes through Boston’s phone Type: Background, Vocal
Song is used in a very similar to Gonna Get You. Only words being “told ya” and it has a sense of urgency. But also the styles being similar highlight Boston and Nick’s motivations here. They’re both doing things out of obsession, hurt, and possessiveness. They’re both trying to get what they want, and playing a spy game. Boston using misinformation and sex, Nick using information and sex.
[3/4]
Tumblr media
Song: He Closes In Nylonia Scene: Top and Sand fight Type: Playful Drums start when Top turns and sees Sand. At first Top is concerned but when he sees Sand he changes completely. Pauses for a moment, but comes back quieter as Top starts to blame Sand for the accident. It slowly builds throughout the verbal fight until we finally get to the punches. Once Nick stops the fight it repeats a note and a drum beat and finally stops as Top gets into the car to drive away.
Tumblr media
Song: He closes in (again) Scene: End of nick and Sand scene Type: Playful After Sand says “Top stole my Ex.” the ‘war drums’ from He Closes In start, the same song that played during Top and Sand’s fight.
Tumblr media
Song: What You Can't Take Back by Clarence Reed Scene: Ray apologizes to Mew for the kiss Type: vocal Mostly just want to point out the song title. Ray apologizes for kissing Mew, saying it was wrong to do to Mew or anyone else. That he should have asked permission first. Ends after Mew tells him to forget it.
Tumblr media
Song: In the Danger Zone by Marten Moses Scene: Mew and Top talk Ray liking Mew Type: vocal Same song that played in the flashback when Mew was looking for Ray in his house. Starts with Top being angry and upset while getting his wound treated by Mew. Pauses when Mew tells Top about the kiss, restarting after Top says “Just a kiss? Nothing else happened?” It stops when Top relents and apologizes.
[4/4]
Tumblr media
Song: You Don’t Know by Psüche Scene: Top and Mew make out Type: Vocal
Lyrics in show:
Anyway you want me (x3) Anyway you want me - is good enough for me…(x2) You don't even have to love me - I'm a hypocrite… Lyrics not in show: And the sun shines down upon your face - it's all for you But you don't know Come and let me lose you - can't stop me, no… I never meant to choose you - a secret glow… And the sun shines down upon your face - it's all for you And I would travel to the end of space - to be with you But you don't know But you don't know But you don't know But you don't know
“You don’t even have to love me” plays for the first time as Mew slips his hand into Top’s pants. The song seems to highlight the depth of both characters' feelings, while also emphasizing the lack of trust and truth between them. They’re both moving forward based on Mew’s checklist because of mutual attraction. They want to be together but lack of communication has left them working off false versions of each other. They still WANT each other a lot but…the falseness that permeates through their relationship is reflected in these lyrics
Tumblr media
Song: With You It's Different by Blue Topaz  Scene: Top and Mew in the shower, it’s different with Mew Type: Vocal
Soft guitar under Top asking Mew if it was ok, and Top saying “I can’t remember the last time I cared about the feelings of someone I slept with” Ends after Mew asks for clarification.
Tumblr media
Song: Wrote You a Letter (feat. Cody Francis) Candelion Scene: Ray thinks about getting the keychain from Mew Type: Vocal
Lyrics in show:
In a way that's how it's supposed to be If I'm unable to make you happy Then it's for the better That you are not with me Hmm hmm That's why I Wrote you a letter Cuz you see I write so much better than I speak It's hard to get over You chose someone else Your new best friend It doesn't feel like it was long ago..
Full lyrics:
Hey I heard you got a new best friend Yea It's a bit I won't pretend that it doesn't matter That you're with someone else Hmm In a way that's how it's supposed to be If I'm unable to make you happy Then it's for the better That you are not with me Hmm hmm That's why I Wrote you a letter Cuz you see I write so much better than I speak And I need to tell you You were My best friend Till the end I hope I'll be happy without you But right now I don't know what to do It's hard to get over You chose someone else Your new best friend It doesn't feel like it was long ago We were head over heels in love, thought it'll last forever But somehow we got lost Looking back I didn't realize What was wrong with me I can't deny I took you for granted You finally had enough Hmm hmm (Chorus x2)
Music starts as Ray is in the bath, sad and drinking, but it’s a cleansing bath. He’s staring at the keychain Mew bought for him and after a few moments the scene shifts to a flashback. Mew gives Ray a keychain and explains that he bought it to remind Ray of his name. Ray shouldn’t be sad, he’s a Ray of sunshine! Mew’s advice is always how Mew wants things to be and not based on what actually is needed. Calling back to the pool party in EP3 and the song We Will Never Die. Mew’s advice was accompanied by the lyric “On an island in the shade, the city is on fire”. Mew is on an island in the shade and Ray is in a city on fire. Mental illness isn’t something easily fixed, and Ray continues to self medicate and yearn for connection after receiving the keychain from Mew. The lyrics start after Mew says “You shouldn’t be sad, friend” Ray asks Mew “Don’t you think I’m too hot for people to handle?” Mew brushes this off with “Lots of people like hotness”. It might have been said in a place of love, but it isn’t what Ray needed. Despite this, Ray's love for Mew has been his lifeline for the last two years, a person who will come to him in great need, but will hold him at arm's length any other time. In the present, Ray reflects “Mew is my emergency contact, and I always thought I was his too. But right now, I don’t think I’m that important to him anymore.” and then the lyrics “It’s hard to get over, You chose someone else, your new best friend.” play as the camera pans to the Poor Boy shirt. Ray might finally accept that he’s not Mew’s choice, but Mew might be happy with someone else. And Ray wants to be that special person to someone, so he needs to actively let go of Mew. He was slowly letting go before, realizing how good it felt to have someone to be there, to talk to, and how different it feels from Mew’s love. Mew is still obviously important to him, but Mew doesn’t want Ray to be his savior, just a typical friend.
Tumblr media
Song: Our เรา by Selina and Sirinya Scene: Continuing the record store date, Sand and Ray are listening to a record. Type: Vocal
Lyrics in show:
If this place was the only place that has starlight If this place was the only place that has moonshine If this place was the only place that has the sky and the blue sea And there is no one nearby If this place was the only place that has you If this place was the only place that has a cool breeze If this place was the only place that trees and a clear stream Lyrics continued not in the show: And there is nothing nearby. There is only us and a cool breeze (x4)
So far, Our is one of the few songs (so far) that is translated on screen, and they even pause the music as they take off their headphones. In the pause Ray says “The song makes me wanna fly to Chiang Mai and sip beer right now.” Sand responds “And set up a tent?” Ray responds “I like, na” leaving it open ended what he’s talking about. Be it the imagery, the song, or Sand.
The song is about an empty place with your significant other, a place where the stars and moon shine and the breeze is cool. Some place where only we exist without any outside stress or worries. It’s a place that is cooling and healing, which is what Ray needs. Ray can be hot there, and the cool breezes will heal him.
In Sand and Ray’s imaginary trip to Chiang Mai with this song, it gives Ray a direct comparison with the trip 2 years ago with Mew. That time he was told “Lots of people like hotness” while he was a burning city, however, this time he has a cool breeze and someone to hold hands with, someplace that is only theirs.
The song ends before they finally go beyond the “what if” stage, before there is only us. Leaving them with meaningful glances, ambiguous words and holding hands. It’s not quite right, they have not quite made the final step, but they have started to move from their cycle.

Hi, I came to report to you that your ql music research is rubbing off on me 😅 I was watching ep 2 of Ploy's Yearbook (for Joong and Namtan 😍), when suddenly I recognized a piece of music!! But I couldn't place it, so I tried to remember which series have I watched so many times that I'm familiar with the music. I reached the tentative conclusion that it must be from SIMM or possibly from Hidden Agenda (but I definitely connected it to JoongDunk). Maybe I need to do a complete rewatch of both series to confirm, what a hardship 😂 I just wanted to tell you that maybe aside from being a JD vampire bl truther, this will be your other legacy
oh my god, that's amazing!!!!!! i LOVE to hear that!!!!! i'm actually planning on making a side blog focused on shared royalty free music in thdramas, but that's something that is earliest going to happen in the summer if not in the winter. i wanna work my way through some of my fave shows first, because those are the soundtracks i'm more likely to recognize and i just wanna have them on my google doc before i go put everything in tumblr posts (which is also gonna take forever bc my google doc is currently at 100 pages worth of entries sjkfkjsfdj)
aaaaanyway, re: music in ploy's yearbook
was it by any chance desert caravan by ludvig moulin? i haven't watched ep2 yet (i was actually about to go watch it when your message came in and i couldn't help answering it first kjdkfdg), but i did see a clip of it earlier in jimmy's insta story and the scene had this music in the background. it has come up in episode 1 already as well. if it was this, then good job on connecting it to a joongdunk show because it actually has come up on hidden agenda a couple of times! i'm still missing the last 3 episodes on my music collection, but these are the time stamps so far:
ep1 pt1 - 0:13
ep3 pt2 - 0:20
ep4 pt1 - 4:32
ep8 pt4 - 8:08
And here are the time stamps for ep1 of ploy's yearbook:
ep1 pt1 - 11:10 / 17:41
ep1 pt2 - 1:50
ep2 pt1 - 9:38
ep2 pt2 - 0:27
ep2 pt3 - 3:09
ep2 pt4 - 3:07
you might also have recognized get up on that horse by spring gang as the music that plays in bad buddy at the beginning of ep7 when pat is in the car (ep7 pt1 - 1:20) or also in ep12 when patpran claim they broke up (ep12 pt3 - 3:45). oh but wait, it's definitely connected to joongdunk, you said? well, as it turns out this one has actually come up in star in my mind a lot. like. A LOT:
ep1 pt2 - 5:55
ep2 pt1 - 4:00
ep2 pt4 - 1:02
ep3 pt2 - 1:15
ep3 pt3 - 1:55
ep3 pt4 - 1:17
ep6 pt2 - 1:23
ep7 pt2 - 1:48
ep7 pt4 - 0:48
ep8 pt1 - 4:33 / 5:41
ep8 pt3 - 5:07
and here are the time stamps for ep1 of ploy's yearbook again for reference:
ep1 pt1 - 13:00
ep1 pt2 - 2:26
ep2 pt1 - 8:37
and here, have a bonus because why the fuck not: moonshiner's turn by martin landström. this one has shown up in ep1 pt4 of both bad buddy as well as 23.5 degrees. also found in ep1 of ploy's yearbook at:
ep1 pt1 - 18:53
ep1 pt3 - 6:16
ep2 pt1 - 0:35 / 17:30
well, i'm gonna go watch the new episode now! feel free to check back on this post in a couple of hours, i might edit it or add a reblog with all my findings about the music in ep2 😂
edit:
i've added the ep2 time stamps to the aforementioned ones! and i found new music as well!!
maybe the one you recognized as a joongdunk series music in ep2 was winning hand by ealot. it came up in star in my mind a couple of times:
ep1 pt4 - 3:00
ep2 pt2 - 2:20
ep4 pt2 - 9:16
ep8 pt3 - 4:17
it featured in ep2 of ploy's yearbook at following timestamps:
ep2 pt1 - 16:58
ep2 pt3 - 3:45
and there was some more bad buddy music as well (diggin' the drama by the new fools) and it amazes me that my brain immediately went "we know this!!" considering it showed up in bad buddy exactly one single time (ep7 pt2 - 13:45). bad buddy really has wormed its way into my brain in every single aspect in the last two years huh djkfkjdfg. anyway you can find it in ep2 of ploy's yearbook at:
ep2 pt1 - 11:10
apart from these, there were also two pieces of music that sounded increeeedibly familiar to me but neither shazam nor google could come up with any results! i'm gonna have to click through my "not found" list at some point, maybe they're already there. here are the time stamps if you're curious:
first one i can't find (ep2 pt3 - 2:06)
second one i can't find (ep2 pt3 - 7:09)
this is gonna bug me for a while....

Young Royals S3 thoughts
EP4
Simon tearing up on the bus... I have no words to describe painful it is to watch this.
That hug. Was so overdue. I’m so glad Wille is there. And him saying „I’m so glad to see you.“ - yes please tell Simon how much he is loved!
Sara and Felice looking at each other like the star-crossed lovers they are…
Vincent, why do you have to be like that? This is literally the last thing Simon needs right now. Just, PLEASE, mind your own business!
„You’re so fucking pathetic“ - couldn’t have said it better. And finally, Wille defending Simon as well!
„It’s really a privilege… not a punishment.“ He’s becoming more and more like his mother…
Oh my god they write letters to their future selves? I do that every year - that is sooooo cool :) I really want to know what Simon and Wille wrote… and is it foreshadowing a time-jump?
Oh August is down bad… He’s trying so so hard to reconnect with Sara, and it is kind of adorable… I just wish she’d let someone in (not necessarily August) and could talk to someone and get better…
„The Queen is too unwell to attend the announcement.“ Oh oh oh oh oh…. I really really really hope she’ll get better. Why does everyone only ever get worse?
When Linda suggested moving to Gothenburg, Jan-Olof was like ‚yes, please do!‘ 🙄 this old white man really thinks that would resolve things?
I feel like if Farima had had this talk with Simon and Linda earlier, a lot of the plot of the first three episodes would not have happened. Simon could have avoided the brunt of the online hate perhaps.. Why did no one feel like it might be a good idea to prepare him for what was coming and give him some advice on how best to navigate being so suddenly in the public eye? Like, they seriously trusted Wille to communicate all of that, a sixteen-year old known for being quite impulsive? Simon needs real support from the system, and he was just left to struggle along without it for three episodes… Why did there need to be a stone thrown into his home for anyone to take any action and give any support?!?!?!
Micke apologising for hugging Sara without asking first… it’s small steps, but in the right direction :))
Simon deleting his online profile is like he is deleting himself. I feel so sad for him. And he is just so quiet and resigned. This is not right…
„Serious, traditional, smart and strong young man“ hahahahaaaaaa have you met Wille?
„To love whoever you want is a human right.“ SIMON FOR PRESIDENT!!
But I also get that Wille does not want to be a spokesperson.
That discussion makes me really sad. Like, I do get where Wille is coming from. But Simon just quietly resigning himself to not arguing more because he wants to keep the peace, once again staying silent when he should have the space to express himself - that’s not right….
Love that Vincent has not enough authority to make people listen to him.
„They’ve been mocking me all day. And now they want to demonstrate? And talking about solidarity….“ I agree, Simon, I agree. And they are protesting because they want to keep their privileges, while Simon was at a protest for worker’s rights. That’s two fundamentally different issues really shows all that’s problematic about Hillerska in a nutshell.
No, Wille, don’t join them!
That scene between Simon and Sara really shows that I think a lot between them just needs to be talked about. Like I’m not saying it will resolve their issues, but at least if they were to talk about it together, they might make a little bit of progress? But I guess it’s only episode four and their reconciliation has to wait little longer for plot reasons 😤
It’s so painful how Simon has just become so quiet. Even when he’s singing, he’s kind of lost his voice… This is the worst!!!! Siiiimoooooon!!
300 crowns for a lollipop??!?!
„That sounds like an eating disorder.“ !!!!!!!!!!! I sometimes feel like Simon is the only sane person in this school.
No Vincent, YOU are becoming more boring every day. Your bullying is pathetic. Leave August alone.
„Klumpig“ is my new favourite Swedish word :))
Even Simon’s smiles are quiet now…
„I never want to hurt you, Simon.“ Look into those eyes.
That scene with them by the window is beautiful… But I feel like their peace is so fragile.
The students are just proving that the inspection was necessary. Like this is exactly the kind of behaviour that they wanted to put a stop to, calling them traitors for leaving, stealing someone’s trousers and chanting ‚Show your dick for Hillerska!‘ - just proves once more that you don’t need alcohol for a group dynamic to become toxic.
And NO girls, you don’t get to be mad at Felice for whatever she said or didn’t say during the inspection. And thank you, Maddie, for defending her!
Ok, I’ve changed my mind, I want to have the shot of them waking up next to each other tattooed :) They are so soft… 💜
It must have smelled sooo bad in that room that morning… 😂
Felice and Sara finally talking. Hallelujah!
Felice is a stronger person than I am because I would have forgiven Sara there and then. Scratch that, I have forgiven her long ago. I mean, if you just try to see it from her perspective… There must be some way for them to forgive and move on, right? Hello? Is anyone hearing this?
Simon worrying what to gift Wille for his birthday… „Does he like to take baths?“ Hahahahahahaaaaa this is so accurate, like this is exactly how helpful my advice to my friends was when I was a teenager…. :))
„And just do whatever they say.“ Oh Simon… I completely understand that you just want to stay safe and protect yourself. Like you should. But please also listen to your friends and don’t let go of who you are…
I really love the friendship these three have. I am so glad Simon has them…
Oh no, they’re talking about Erik. Here we go. This is going to be hard.
Malte is acting the shit out of that scene!!! Incredible. But so is Edvin, like there is so much going on in his face without him even saying anything….
„And Erik was there. Erik was there.“

So I finally got around to watching The Librarians ...
After I finished the second half of the latest season of Leverage (aka Leverage: Redemption), I felt the urge to watch something else with the same energy. And what has the same energy of Leverage? Well, The Librarians ... duh.
Now, to be fair. I've tried to get into The Librarians in the past, but I could never make it past the first 3 episodes. Seriously, I've tried to start this series no less than 3 times, and I just kept giving up on it.
Why? Because I found most of the characters too annoying to enjoy it. Mainly Ezekiel, Cassandra and Flynn. And although I know that it takes time for actors to settle into their characters, and begin the journey of growth and change that comes with a solid character arc, I couldn't bring myself to keep watching.
So what changed my mind this time?
Easy. I didn't bother watching the first 3 episodes. 😉 Since I already knew who the characters were, and vaguely recalled how everyone got together, I thought I would just dive in and see how it would go from there.
And it worked! Most of the cast still got on my nerves for the first half of the first season, but it wasn't too long before they started to grow on me -- especially Jenkins.
In true "me" fashion, my favorite character easily became Jenkins / Sir Galahad, and most of my favorite scenes and episodes involve him. But more on him later.
Tumblr media
Anyway, that's not to say their aren't plenty of other things I love about the show now. I'm not sure if there is common denominator among my favorite episodes, but here they are and a wee reason about why they're one of my favorite episodes:
... And the Fatal Separation (s3, ep9) Why? -- Three words: Ernie. Reyes. Jr. That's it. That's the reason this episode is on my list. And it's enough. Granted, I don't believe that Christian Kane could last more than 10 seconds in a real fight with Ernie, but the fact that he was the main guest star and was clearly having a great time made me really love this episode. Plus, how hot were Cassandra and Ezekiel posing as black market traders? Their hair and clothes made me want to see them in those roles again in the future.
... And the Reunion of Evil (s3, ep3) Why? -- I pretty much loved this entire episode from start to finish. I loved the conflict, the "creatures of the week," and the development it gave for Jake and Cassie's relationship. It did a wonderful job of balancing humor and drama, and of course, it was just really well executed because ... Jonathan Frakes directed it.
... And the Silver Screen (s4, ep4) Why? -- I know we're meant to love the whole film noir schtick involving Flynn and Baird, but I actually adored this episode for 2 reasons: 1) the rest of the team moving from film genre to film genre in order to help their teammates was funny as hell, and 2) Jenkins working with guest star Gloria Reuben to solve the real mystery on their end. I thought they had great chemistry together, and it made me want to see them interact with each other again in the future. I know that's not possible, but John Larroquette is just so great at creating chemistry with pretty much anyone.
... And the Christmas Thief (s4, ep3) Why? -- Wait. We get Ezekiel backstory *and* Steven Weber as an over-the-top villain of the week? Of course this episode is making my list of favorites! Granted, I'm not a big fan of the Christmas holiday personally, so it also gelled with me in that respect (aka steering clear of how "great" the holiday is), but more so I'm a huge fan of Steven Weber and I think he's an incredibly under-appreciated actor. (Plus, have you ever heard him sing? Check out the remake/spoof of Reefer Madness with Kristen Bell when you get a chance. You will not be disappointed.) And that speech that Ezekiel delivers to his mother about why he stole and how he's an artist, so he didn't care about keeping any of the stuff he stole. ::chef's kiss::
... And the Hidden Sanctuary (s4, ep8) Why? -- I think what I love most about this episode is the idea of Cassandra working alongside the little boy to solve the mystery as to why the town never has any accidents and seems so perfect. Usually it's Cassandra who would be the first to notice something is off, but it took the little boy to bring it to her attention. Which in a way reveals how the curiosity of youth is still as valuable as any other form of intelligence. Adding to that, a part of me wanted the town's councilman to get what was coming to him for trapping a fae. If you know absolutely nothing about the occult, witchcraft or ancient faiths, know one thing: Don't f*ck with the fae. I was ready for her to get her revenge, and I can't say that I blamed her at all. Seriously, kids. DFWTF.
... And the Happily Ever Afters (s2, ep9) Why? -- OK. I don't know what I love about this one. It's the precursor to the season finale, but I kind of wish they had stayed in this alternate reality for a little while longer. It was just so cute to see how each team member was living their idealized lives, but also working together as a team without even questioning it. Yeah, yeah, I wanted them to stop Prospero too, but I also wanted to see them go about these AU lives for a little while longer. Plus, I really liked David S. Lee's Moriarty. So much so that I was actually rooting for him and "Duchess" to stay together instead of her being in a relationship with Flynn. I thought Rebecca and David had more chemistry than Rebecca and Noah, frankly. But either way, I really liked this episode for pretty shallow reasons. I thought the resolution was a little too cheesy (the part about claiming your other/real life to the totem pole), but overall, it didn't take away from what I liked the most. Also, Christian Kane runs kinda funny. :-P
... And Some Dude Named Jeff (s4, ep10) Why? -- This is my absolute favorite episode of the entire series, and it bugs me that it's the 3rd to last episode of the entire series. It's like the writers gave me what I wanted most -- a Jenkins-focused episode -- and then said, "That's a wrap!" Sure, all good things must ... you know the rest. Then, I found out that Lindy Booth directed this episode, and now I love it even more. It really was perfection from start to finish, and we got to see John Larroquette do what he does best: Steal. The. Mother. F*ckin'. Show. He was hilarious at just the right moments; angsty and forlorn in just the right measure; and sincere and charming in just the right way. Granted, the villain seemed more scary in absentia than he did when he finally appeared on screen, but who cares? This was all about Jenkins ... and some dude named Jeff.
OK. I think that's all I have for this post. It's already hella-long. I thought I was going to share my top 10 favorite episodes, but it turns out the other 3 were really just ones I liked in terms of quality and execution, but I don't think I'll re-watch them over and over again like I would these 7 episodes I listed above. That, or I really just like those other 3 faves because of the scenes with Jenkins.
Alright, I'll leave dear readers be. But don't be surprised if I suddenly start reblogging a lot of old memes and posts about the show, especially ones that focused on Jenkins/Sir Galahad.
And probably an entire post gushing over Jenkins and John Larroquette in general. So yeah, watch this space.

i’m out of class and here is the extremely detailed “superache by conan gray is a pran parakul album through and through” post
movies - high school pran, especially while he was away at boarding school with the chorus. in his head his mom never sent him away! in his head him and pat could be together! also arguably ep9-10 pran bc he’s living in that fantasy of getting to have pat and then hit with the “we know it’s not what we’re doing, cause baby it ain’t like the movies” when their parents find out and everything falls apart
people watching - arguably more of a pat song, but definitely feels like pran while he was away at boarding school. i’m a big believer in whore parakul, so i think he definitely had flings but never anything serious. “i’ve never really been in love, not seriously” is him brushing off his high school crush on pat and insisting he’s over it. but he wants that! he wants to be in love! he’s a romantic!
disaster - this is SUCH a pran song fr. hes ALWAYS thinking about how things are gonna go wrong. what if things don’t work out? what if pat changes his mind? what if our parents find out? also “ashley thinks there’s something between you and i” is SO ink picking up on what’s going on between them like cmon
best friend - you could argue this is about wai or ink, but honestly? pat is his best friend and i don’t wanna hear it. they’re each other’s ride or die even if he doesn’t like admitting it in the beginning
astronomy - pran in ep6 fr. desperately trying to get pat to let what’s between them die so he can move on because he doesn’t think it’s possible and doesn’t wanna get hurt. “stop trying to keep us alive, you’re pointing at stars in the sky that already died” like!!!
yours - ep4 pran. this is so ep4 pran is HURTS. “i know i’m not the one you really love, but i guess that’s why i’ve never given up” and “all i’ve ever wanted was that look in your eyes, like you already know that i’m the love of your life” and “i’m somebody you use but never own” like!!! COME ON
jigsaw - another one that’s arguably more pat, but i feel like it can fit pran as well, especially if you consider it in relation to his mom like. “i’ll change every part of me until the puzzle pieces aren’t me at all” and “changing parts of myself to fit you, clear as shit i was not the issue” like!! it’s soooo pran and his mom
family line - this song is so both of them. but you know pran and his mommy issues, especially in the line “i’m so good at telling lies, that came from my mother’s side, told a million to survive” like!!!!
summer child - YOU DONT HAVE TO ACT LIKE ALL YOU FEEL IS MILD!!! YOURE LYING SUMMER CHILD!!!! do i even need to say anything. this is so pran i’m gonna cry
footnote - god. from high school to when they got together fr. like. “i’ll just take a footnote in your life, and you can take my body every line i would write for you, but a footnote will do” like!!! god it’s so pran, that feeling of wanting to be important to pat but thinking he’s not.
memories - once again pran in ep6. hes so desperately trying to keep pat at arms length but pat keeps coming back. “i wish that you would stay in my memories, but you show up today just to ruin things” AND “you steal all my clothes everything that i own and it makes me feel like dying” !!!!!! LIKE
the exit - pran when he transfers back. “feels like we had matching wounds but mines still black and bruised and yours is perfectly fine” and “you love her, it’s over, so you even doubt it on your lips when you say it (say it)?” and “you’ve already found someone to miss while i’m still standing at the exit” like!! he doesn’t act like it as much as pat but the distance effected him. and in his mind he doesn’t think pat even needs him especially when he has someone else (ink)

Currently watching (june 2023)
(only thai dramas right now)
Be my favorite (ep5)
I started getting interested in this series when they announced the cast change, mostly for the drama. Then when the actual trailer aired I was like uhhh this could go very badly or turn out quite good, and at episode 5 I think we're going to get the second option. But I loved Vice Versa's first episodes and then it stopped making sense so I'm not 100% confident yet. This being said, I'm enjoying it a lot, both Gawin and Krist are doing an excellent job so far, all the characters have unique personalities and development, it has beautiful reflections about life and personal relationships. I can't wait for fridays so I can watch the next episode and that's the real test to know I'm loving it so far. Next week we'll get the "why do you like me?" and hair touch scene and I'm obsessed since I saw it in the trailer, I literally can not wait to watch it
Loneliness society (ep4)
I haven’t seen anyone mention this but this is an adaptation of a Sandra Bullock movie, which I like a lot so I decided to give it a try. So far so good, the mains are nice, have chemistry and it’s entertaining so far
Step by Step (ep9)
The problem I have with this series is that I was never able to connect with Pat, maybe because he’s so openly emotional and I’m not? But I can’t, I tried but no. I’m sorry but in my eyes he’s quite self centered and self important, I don’t understand why everybody, especially Jeng (who is his boss), has to change but not Pat. Like, at the start of the series he had been working there a month, I think? I don’t hate him, at all, but I don’t understand his character, I was waiting for him to get better, to have development, and it didn’t happen.
I was starting to get bored, and then we started getting Jeng’s perspective and I fell in love, so now I’m enjoying the series and I have a character I can root for. I don’t fully understand him falling in love with Pat but I want his happy ending so I still want them to get together
3 will be free (ep7)
This is one of The Series you’re supposed to watch and everybody says is so good, and in this case I agree so far. I was not expecting such quality and to get hooked so easily, I started it two days ago and I’ll probably finish it today or tomorrow, and I’m supposed to be busy right now. I love that there’s a bisexual character and obviously the relationship between the three of them but I can’t say anything else until I know how it ends. I’m very scared it’s not going to be a happy ending and I could accept that even if I’m going to suffer, but please I don’t want any of them to regret what happened or treat it like an adventure and not a real romance. That being said, if something happens to Shin I will kill everybody in this room and then myself
Finished
Our Sky 2
I don’t feel like writing a separate review for each series but in general I’d say it was kinda underwhelming. I knew it wasn’t going to be a masterpiece but I did expect it to be a bit better, especially the Aof ones. I wish they just showed the pairs being cute in their normal lives instead of creating plots that made no sense. MSP and NLMG are the only ones I can honestly say I liked, the others had great moments but it wasn’t enough. In order of enjoyment:
My school president
Never let me go
A tale of a thousand stars
Bad Buddy
Star in my mind
The eclipse
(I haven’t watched the ABAAB and VV ones)
Past-senger
This was a wild and silly ride from start to finish (especially finish). I did enjoy it, like reading a crack fic, sometimes what I need is bad watches with no expectations. Until the end, that was way too much for me, what in the world were they thinking I’d never know. One thing I have to say is the chemistry between the main characters was quite decent
Plan to watch
Hidden agenda (july 9th)
I didn’t hate Star in my mind but it was a bit of a waste of JoongDunk’s chemistry, they had a good connection in it and it was what saved the series, but it’s nothing compared to how comfortable they are doing fanservice in real life. I need whoever is directing this to please get that and carry it to the series intact. The first trailer showed more of the plot and the second one was basically them being cute together and even if I liked it, I hope that plot points still somewhat exist in the series
Wedding Plan (july 19th)
Another Mame series, I didn’t hate Love in the air so I think this could be good. The part I was more excited about was the supposed gl pairing but they didn’t appear at all in the trailer so I’m a bit worried about that

Thoughts on Uprising Ep4 Blackout:
- Beck has apparently not learned the first rule of vigilantism: You Do Not Remove The Mask While On The Job
- also Tron? I love you, but kiddo’s gotta have a life for Flynn’s sake
- reallyyyyyy wish the energy drill had been better explained?? Like one of my personal headcanons is that there are programs who mine and refine energy for use by programs in general. apparently here the cities also depend on underground energy for power?? It’s not explained very well and I may have to rewatch the episode to parse this in my head.
- oh Zed. Speaking of kiddos getting to have a life, poor Zed keeps trying to live his and keeps either (a) getting into trouble; or (b) inconveniently crossing paths with Beck-as-Renegade
- more pissing contest fun between Paige and Pavel. I love the insight into Paige’s character, that she’s not willing to risk lives in a larger sense (whereas on a personal level, she will Absolutely try to derezz the guy trying to saving her life, dangerous fireball be damned)
- also love Pavel’s speech to the drill workers if only because he uses the phrase “the big cheese” which makes me wonder if programs even know what cheese is, and also whether they would find the entire concept of cheese extemely gross (totally unrelated to Uprising but I’m suddenly confident that Quorra kind of likes cheese, she just has to remember not to think too hard about what it is and where it comes from)
- the outrun-the-fireball sequence was cool as fuck and also we gotta get some flirty banter in between our protagonist and his nemesis
- also WHY DID THEY NAME THAT ONE PROGRAM BARTIK?!! Bartik was the name of the revolutionary trying to get a meeting with Zuse in Legacy! Are these characters the same?!? INQUIRING MINDS NEED TO KNOW
- and then Paige has a plan to catch the Renegade and it involves Zed and in the immortal words of Every Star Wars Character, I’ve got a bad feeling about this… (literally cannot remember what comes of this; I watched this ten years ago, sooooo……)
- speaking of Bad Feelings, did Not Like Tesler’s speech at the end. Or more specifically, the PERFECTION IS FREEDOM slogan scrolling everywhere after he was done. That is creepy as hell and I love it? Like. That is Clu’s Whole Deal—the system must be perfect, and anything deemed Not Perfect must be purged (see the actual Purge of the Isos). And that creepy ass slogan is one way to do it.
- and then Tron’s just. there??? in the city???? weirdly?????? okay man, whatever I guess??

Star Trek SNW ep4 thoughts:
- the shortness of La'an continues to fascinate me. just my little babyyy
- La'an 'I don't need therapy I'm fine' girl I'm here to tell you that yes the fuck you do need it
- do Starfleet Medical not teach 21st century medicine? The way M'Benga referred to it as archaeological medicine or something... okay sir get off your futuristic high horse none of ur equipment ever working because the ship always about to blow up or some shit. it genuinely seems like it would be more practical for officers on ships to be fully trained to use 21st century techniques considering ships operations are down like 75% of the time lmao
- Spock and La'an were jumping over each other to volunteer for that semi-suicide mission huh
- Spock and La'an mutual trauma dump via Spock forgetting that mind melds work both ways. La'an like 'there's no sister on ur official records' and Spock like 'yes' well handled king, created more questions than u answered there!!
- episode ended in the classic TOS way which is 'crews go thru massive trauma during the episode, everything is fine by the end'
