I Married the Male Lead’s Dad / I became the Hero’s Mom
Both the official and direct translation titles are just brutally straightforward. Lol
Tumblr media
Summary Exactly what it says on the Tin. Main girl is a huge stan for the ML in her fave novel. Reading a completed novel left her ~unsatisfied~ so of course we gotta stalk the novel’s author(?) please don’t Eyyyy here comes truck-kun to yeet her into the novel itself, albeit in the backstory portion. So her oshi is only a baby. And daddy thinks her “stalking” is directed at him so *~marriage~* Ok, I know the initial premise sounds kind of sus but the FL gets better and her initial “stalking” is mostly like the gift-giving and fainting-in-his-presence level. Also the actual plot and world-building is really interesting.
Tropes   - Truck-kun strikes again (actually surprisingly rare in the manhwa I’ve read so far)   - isekai-ed but I’m just an extra!??!?   - how DARE you mess with MY (step)SON   - just throw all these bloodline-obsessed nobles away   - *~whacky misunderstandings~*   - the art does a *glow-up* over time   - yo some weird shit ain’t adding up from the original novel
FL - Aisha Heathcliff
Tumblr media
 - just wanted to stan her oshi and accidentally caught feelings (for his dad)  - (secretly) richer than you’ll ever be  - idiot mum
little baby boy - Abel Louvremont
Tumblr media
 - sweet summer child precious cinnamon roll, too pure for this earth  - please protecc  - some comments say his eyebrows look like they’re just drawn on with sharpie and I can’t unsee it ;w;
ML - Duke Hades Louvremont
Tumblr media
 - why are the hot daddys always fated to die young   - a handsome man (unfortunately he also knows this)  - next level narcissist  - is there anything he can’t do  - when in doubt, kill first, ask questions later  - somehow an atheist in a world where there’s actual proof that gods exist  - idiot dad
Rating: Yes PLEASE READ THIS The beginning part’s a bit... but once you hit the actual backstory and key plot elements, it’s SO INTERESTING. Status (as of 22 Jan 2022) Ongoing~
Same Same but Different - Not-Sew-Wicked Stepmom - I will change the Genre - I found a Husband when I picked up the Male Lead

So are you like, a stan or..?
I hope truck-kun becomes real but only for one second and materializes into him so he stretches out like a poorly taken care of gauge

Hewoo! One: I ABSOLUTELY ADORED WHAT YOU WROTE FOR MY REQUEST, OMG
Second: After reading the present for his beloved yandere Dazai, I was thinking of something maybe weird but (cover of You right by Doja Cat and The weekend made by Rain Paris running in brain) what if at some point he meets the reader who's stuck in a relationship that literally drains her out (let's say she's very intense and passionate naturally) and he can see she's eyeing him with those sparkles and that want and said lively sparkles disappear when her boyfriend shows up?
(use it however you please, cheating, jealousy, nsfw, anything you wish tbh. The thrill is real 😅 if you're uncomfortable with it ignore :3)
Legit don't know what to name this....
A/n note: I AM SO GLAD YOU LIKED THAT!!!! cause I was kinda scared you didn't. I love this request and I think I'm gonna make the boyfriend abusive. ILY <3 Reader works in ADA in this fic.
Warnings: Mentions off Abuse, Mentions of blood.
Tumblr media
Dazai was confused. He didn't understand why your shorter skirts and blouses were changing to turtlenecks and trousers.
He didn't understand why the person who was happy-go-lucky and still kept her smiles in serious situations to calm everyone else was rarely showing any emotions now.
He didn't understand the little speck of red on your blouse he saw the other day while you were getting coffee.
He didn't understand why you came to the agency rarely and only for emergencies.
He didn't understand why you flinched at almost every little sound but then, It hit him harder than a truck. We stan truck-kun
You were being abused, that's the only possible outcome he could get.
He planned to go to Ranpo during the lunch break to confirm his theory since he didn't want to get to conclusion that quick.
Time passed and it was already the lunch break. Dazai made his way over to Ranpo's desk.
There he was with a pocky in his mouth, reclining his chair and a bunch of snacks crowding the space on his desk.
"Ranpo-sa" He started but was cut off by Ranpo.
"I already know why you're here Dazai, I'm the best detective after all....but, i’m afraid to tell you that....you’re right."
At that moment Dazai was conflicted. Why didn't you ask him to help you? Why did you allow them to abuse you? You were clearly capable of defending yourself. Why didn't he notice it before. Thoughts like these surged his mind.
In the end he came to a decision. He would go to your house after work, Find out who was abusing you and take care of the problem.
Time passed, The evening sun cast long shadows on the ground. The slanting rays of the setting sun gave a warm orange tinge to the sky. The night sky was aglow with bright city lights. The pale crescent moon shone like a silvery claw in the night sky.
Dazai and Kunikida were on there way to your house. Yes, yes he dragged Kunikida along with him. Kunikida was genuinely worried about you.
Soon they arrived infront of your door. Dazai rung the bell and not a Minuit after you opened it.
“Ah! Dazai and Kunikida-san!” You said with a huge smile plastered on your face with those lively sparkles in your eyes.
Dazai would've thought nothing was wrong if he didn't see the bruises on you right arm.
“Hey, y/n. Kunikida-kun and I were wondering why you couldn't come to the agency today?” He asked with a carefree tone, hiding his worries behind his chestnut pools.
You were just about to answer when a voice cut you off. “Y/n, who’s at the door?”
A man emerged from the shadows where the voice had previously came from and puts a hand on your shoulder.
Those remaining sparks of life you had in your eyes seemed to have disappeared. And that's when Dazai knew, he had found the root of the problem.
“uhm, Dazai, Kunikida-san meet my boyfriend bf/n. bf/n these are my colleagues from the agency.” You introduced them awkwardly, your smile faltering.
Dazai was quick to pick a topic though. “Are you abusing her?”
“What did you just say?”
“I said are you abusing her?”
Eyes widening you were fast to take action. “D-dazai we can talk about th-this later” You say pushing him a little.
However Dazai wouldn't budge. “I said this before I will say it again. Are. You. Abusing. Her?”
“So what if I am? what are you gonna do about it, huh?” your ‘boyfriend’ says clearly challenging Dazai having know idea that he was a former port mafia executive. mf really about to get his ass beaten
Dazai clenches his jaw, takes you in his embrace. Caressing your hair, he takes your chin in his hands, lifting your head up slowly.
“How much did he hurt you, Y/n?”
“D--Dazai please”
“Do you trust me?”  he asks you to which you nod instantly.
“Then please”
Hesitantly you show him all your scars, all the places he had hurt you. There were several cuts, bruises, and burn marks all over your body.
“We have enough proof, don't we Kunikida-san?” Dazai questions moving his head towards Kunikida’s direction still embracing you.
“Yes, yes we have. bf/n as of this moment you are under arrest for domestic violence” Kunikida says while he pushes his glasses up.
“Y-you, You can't do that!” bf/n says panicked and throws a chair towards Kunikida.
Kunikida however blocks it in time. Your ‘boyfriend’ quickly tries to escape using the back door.
Leaving he says, “Just you wait! I will come for you! You can't hide forever Y/n!! These people will die because of you!!”
Your eyes widening with fear, sweat starting to form on your forehead, tears starting to form in your eyes, you clutch his clothes to find some sense of security.
Noticing your frightened state, Dazai was quick to tighten his embrace around you, wiping your tears with his fingers and whispering reassuring things in you ear.
Kunikida then attacks bf/n, stopping him right before he escapes.
Soon later a bunch of Yokohama cops came and arrested your ‘boyfriend’ for domestic violence and sexual and physiological abuse because Dazai had already predicted an outcome of this sort.
He gave you one last glare before the police took him in the pursuit vehicle.
Petting your hear and placing a kiss on your forehead, Dazai spoke up. “See, he’s gone. He won't disturb you anymore.”
“Dazai”
“Hm?”
“Thanks” you said smiling a bit, with the sparkles of life, brighter than ever before now back in your h/c orbs.
“No problem” He says giving you a smile back and petting your hair.
“Promise me if something like that ever happens again you will come ask me for help” Dazai tells you raising his pinky finger towards your direction.
Smiling softly you connect your pinky with his, placing a ghost of a kiss there.
“I promise”

Truck kun: The Most Prolific Serial Killer
Truck kun, also known as the isekai truck (or truck chan or truck san), is a plot device and the Internet's nickname for trucks that cause an accident and it often leads to the death of a character. With the rise in popularity of the isekai genre, trucks have also appeared multiple times to move the story forward.

there's a limit on how much you can be an isekai intellectual...
a bunch of analyses have been popping up before me all day so i wanted to throw my hat into the ring. all love to ppl who are exercising their creative minds + ppl like geoff here who just talk about these things because of fan interest but i feel like there reaches a point where exploring the "types" of isekai is pointless? i've seen ppl list out the different types of villainess revenge isekai or fantasy mmorpg isekai but eh why fit them all into separate boxes like that?
i think it's easier to think of isekai as a "type" (genre) of itself with only two categories: 1) a focus on isekai (lit. another world) 2) tensei (lit. to be reborn). this allows for a variety of applications and thus tropes that ppl see so many trends of!
with isekai - in another world
you see everything from:
pure fantasy (inuyasha, digimon wait maybe not the best example but in my childhood mind i count digimon as pure fantasy, fushigi yugi)
mmorpg inspired fantasy/adventure (.hack//legend of twilight, sao ugh, log horizon, overlord (LOVE OVERLORD!)
otome game-esque worlds >>> this is where it gets complicated with "villainess routes" since i admit there are multiple villainess tropes but this is why it's nice to not think of this as a "sub-type/genre" bc it frees you from those complications! (the saint's magic power is omnipotent, the white cat's revenge as plotted from the dragon king's lap soso cute!, the savior's book cafe in another world, i'm a villainous daughter so i'm going to keep the last boss wait i can't remember if she's reborn in this one lmaooo see this is why rules make everything hard)
with tensei storylines - being reincarnated/reborn in another world as *insert character/role*
you see...
the same tropes!!
pure fantasy (a returner's magic should be special, reminiscence adonis, the lady and the beast, light and shadow, i can't think of a manga off the top of my head for this ah)
mmorpg inspired fantasy/adventure (so i'm a spider so what i stan kumoko so hard, her majesty's swarm, can't name another off the top of my head ah i hate lists shorter than two things...)
self-insert based games/novels (fiance's observation log of a self-proclaimed villainess, who made me a princess, death is the only ending for the villainess, the villainess wants to marry a commoner, honestly games vs novels are different applications but i'm not in the headspace to try to remember a bunch of both lol)
*insert line break to give random ppl a break from scrolling but tl; dr just enjoy things for what they are no need to micro analyze*
similar variations occur in both genres (if ppl want to be super technical i guess i'm arguing that isekai itself is a massive genre that has the "another world" subgenre and "reincarnation" subgenre tl; dr) so i think it's honestly a huge pain to try to separate all these trends into so many different types of stories. for me personally it's easier to not get overwhelmed by this gigantic umbrella of "isekai" that spans light novels, manhwa, manga, and mobile games by just stripping each story down into its trademark tropes (aka character archetypes, story structures) and slapping "oh this is a person going to a world that's not ours" and "this person gets reborn as blank in another world". none of this "omg this power fantasy is such a this kind of isekai moment" or "there are 14 different types of villainess revenge stories and this series fits into this" bc AH labels! limitations! circle-jerks via ppl trying to compartmentalize everything and sound smart for leaving a comment on story analysis instead of ooh-ahhing over a character's face! dividing things into light novel manga vs manga vs korean manhwa ft. female characters!
the last bit is mainly why i feel frustrated by ppl's insistence to group everything?
the video linked at the beginning of the post (honestly good video essay, i enjoyed it, i just kept thinking in my head the whole time "marimo these are tropes do not take the genre talk literally") has a baby comment thread talking about "korean isekai manhwas" as a genre featuring nothing but reincarnated villainess' and i can't.
like i cannot acknowledge that as a genre of any sort. the energy i felt reading through some of those insights takes me back to 2012 when all yt americans discovered k-pop and deemed all korean music k-pop from then on! (ppl still do this now, yes you are seen and don't talk to me pls i don't like you. k-pop is korean pop music and nothing less and nothing more. take a few seconds and try to parse apart aspects of korean culture instead of slamming everything into a monolithic label that has the letter k and a hyphen.) it feels so odd to see a bunch of young ppl on ig and tiktok acknowledge korean media that happens to be in the form of a webtoon as "oh stories all about young girls becoming villains in stories they made/played" bc it feels so reductive u.u
(positionality disclaimer that i'm praying isn't actually necessary: i am a 3rd-generation korean of japanese descent do not fite me i am exhausted irl of ppl asking for validation/verification bc massive shove off.)
breaking news! korean manhwa...is just as multifaceted as japanese manga...bc how can comics as an art-form not have multiple genres...huh such a shocker?!?! same likely applies to media in other parts of the world like chinese manhwa and french comics--not my place to explain either of those i just know those industries exist bc of wakfu and donghua shows by Tencent.
at the end of the day it's not like analyzing any kind of isekai is wrong--absolutely not!! i think it can be super fun to think about how isekai elements complicate a story (MCs trying to go back home, ppl from the og world, reincarnation plot-twists) or maybe even bash a series for including some kind of other world element when they could have just written a super fun fantasy.
insert marimo's brief ramble that hey you can get sick of truck-kun's hitting disillusioned guys who happen to be super duper smart or girls who happen to be master chefs/craftsmen but transporting a fully-grown being into a fantasy setting is the ultimate cheat code for making mundane modern technology seem cool and overpowered, and being reincarnated as a fully grown person in a world with a pre-made story/game set-up completely bypasses the need for an author to slowly flesh out world-building in a natural progression so isekai is actually a really smart writing tool it's just that there are some series where the author didn't use it well at all and it's cheesy or clearly isekai was misused as a vehicle for character/story development and it was pointless *DEEP BREATH OUT*
in this essay i will argue...lol i am such a culture studies major!! if i were an english major i would be talking all about writing but here i am having a side-tangent about world-building via someone being reborn wow i love this for me (don't get me started on when an author has someone reincarnate as a baby and the story is mostly them having warm fluffy moments with their family--typically father figures--and getting lots of powers i could and would and probably will rant about east asian toxicity)
but anyway am i crazy????? like yes for being passionate about the technical use of a word like genre (i am a scorpio rising let me be fussy pls) but i don't think it's a lot to ask for ppl to not unironically see "villainess revenge isekai" as the definition of korean manhwa.
idk as someone who resonates with why japanese isekai is so popular domestically + why a lot of korean manhwa feat. the same tropes (it's not for great reasons lads it's actually depressing tbh) i'm just starting to feel kind of pained by the generalization and need to separate "cute japanese girl in an otome game"/"japanese boy finds a harem in another world" from "korean girl dies and comes back as a villainess" bc they are just! applications to the same story device!!
recommendations for any who makes it this far down below <3
// also gladly recommend any of the examples i've listed in the above rant as i've read/watched all of them and adore them v much! //
save me princess
super refreshing fantasy manhwa ft. a princess and her ex-boyfriend having to save the world!
the beginning after the end
an AMERICAN web novel turned into a comic (but see it being not korean/japanese doesn't really matter when you just consider isekai as a genre...isn't it nice to not overthink it?) ft. a super-powerful wizard king reincarnated into another world and starting from scratch--gives mushoku tensei vibes but huge twists!
the reason why raeliana ended up at the duke's mansion
love love LOVE this story--read the title and you'll learn how this girl reincarnated as the character raeliana in a book gets married to a duke!
trash of the count's family
such a good novel!! a guy gets reborn as a lazy oaf and he takes the hero of the story under his wing...plot twists come up later on!
this time i will definitely be happy!
v good and refreshing for a shorter series! she's been reborn 3 times and remembers every time the hero's stabbed her in the back, and now she just wants to break up with him!
silver diamond
older manga but v good adventure w intrigue! a boy who loves plants get sucked into a desert world with demonic lizards and a mysterious bodyguard by his side. shonen-ai not BL but wonderful vibes nonetheless + great side characters!
the princess imprints a traitor
adore everything in this from the world (not in that way this society makes me so angry) to the machinations at play and the dynamic between the fl and ml

#1YEARWITHNCT
So its been one year of Nct , I’ll try not be soppy, but i’m probably going to. So I remember first watching smrookies and being like ’ ah there are so many’ , then I remember deciding to Stan them after seeing Johnny and Jisung’s birthday videos. Seeing the way all the members were involved with each other , I just fell in love. When they debuted with the 7th sense I was so happy. From Smrookies my bias was Mark and he still is now. Fire truck , it was just really lit. Then came Chewing Gum, which just made me Jeno trash because he grew up :’) Then Limitless which was just woAh because after so long Johnny debuted. And Doyoung joined too ,my cute orange bunny. My first and last came out and I was so shook because it was soooo good. Then they released Trigger the Fever which made me actually cry. They sang that at Fifa-U20 world cup in Korea , like woah. Then recently Ten released A Dream in a Dream with Lucas (Yukhei) making appearances in the video. As a new Smrookie , we will give him all so much love. Because that’s the type of fandom we are. Like Nct, we are all connected and linked, one big group. So happy anniversary Nct and Everyone in it. Taeyong, Mark , Jaehyun, Ten, Doyoung, Winwin, Yuta, Haechan, Taeil , Johnny, Jeno, Jaemin, Renjun, Chenle, Jisung, Kun, Hansol, Lucas, Jungwoo and maybe more trainees who we aren’t aware of yet. Thank you for making Nct a family, a happy one. A group that provides happiness to everyone. I love you all. 💕

we have similar music taste!! what got you into nct? and what other groups do you stan? hope you have a good day! - ❄️ (also sorry, i wasn’t thinking!)
Aww that’s nice!! uwuOmg that’s actually a quite adventurous story, bc as everything you love in the end, it starts with hate xD When I first saw/listened to NCT it wasn’t even a month, since I was into kpop and everything was new to me and sort of weird (bc I hadn’t fully accepted that I like kpop and was kinda ashamed (?) and yeah). And there’s this yt channel, maybe it’s known to you, the name is “K-Ville Entertainment”. It makes it’s own kpop chart videos and shows them as “top 100″ to the audience. BTS was the only group known to me (tb to when I was obsessed xD) and NCT kinda shooked me xD They seemed SO weird, like what was that mv, styling and the song even??? Yk that was my mindset. So that’s how it started. But for some reason I watched their first Weekly Idol episode and learned these five members (Taeyong, Jaehyun, Yuta, Winwin and Taeil), but still didn’t really liked NCT. Fun fact, but to this day my comments is one of the top comments under the video in which they dance to sm songs. And since then, I kept following them, 50% intentional and 50% unintentional. And for whichever reason I decided to check out their 2nd album, which was surprisingly FIRE. The first album followed, which was also fire. But NCT 127 was honestly not doing it for me (I still had that Fire Truck trauma xD). And I got myself into the system of NCT and the unit thing (which was back then kind of hard, since there were no proper explanations since sm ignored nct lol), but at some point I got the idea of it and through comments and what not, I laid my eyes on NCT Dream. And yeah that was THE moment. I watched “My First and Last” and I was honestly not expecting anything at all, since all the comments said, they’re just cute kids and the music is good, but nothing for “older” people. And with that in my mind, I were like “ya check them out, props as fail as 127, just some kiddos lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯“. But then Huang Renjun happened. I mean fr I liked the song from the first listen haha, but Renjun at 0:52 (when he walks to the teacher and sings) I was like wehohfoiewiohf error error, boi what. I remember it so clearly, that after that, I paused the video and looked for his name and then his age xD I decided for myself that the Dreamies are accepted and I could NOT understand, how someone could all say this about Dream, when a whole Renjun and Mfal exists. End of the story was that idk maybe about 2 week later NCT 127 announced a cb (Cherry Bomb) and this was the sign I always waited for so then after the album came out, which I really really liked, I decided to stan (lowkey stanned Dreamies since then but ya know haha). Well of the story is that since Lucas, Jungwoo and Kun were introduced and Boss came out + Jaemins comeback, they kinda transformed themself into one of my ult groups :)Jfc that was soooo long and I’m so sorry for that (and everyone who has this on their dash now ._.)!! And now onto the other question c: Well I don’t stan many groups, to be exact, only five. GOT7 and NCT are both my ult groups. And then there are Seventeen, Blackpink and Loona :)

Glossary of Terms
So even though I really only review manhwa on this blog, my vocabulary is kind of broken from years of being a weeb.  Maybe this is just extra, but anyway here’s some common words and tags I use in my reviews because my fandom vocabulary is just Like That.
manhwa - Korean comics manga - Japanese comics manhua - Chinese comics recommendations - series that I really loved/enjoyed opinions - I like reviewing all the ones I read and unfortunately not all of them are hits, even though the initial premise/tropes look promising. I still want to review them though in case anyone wants to discuss or check it out since everyone’s taste is different  DNF - Did Not Finish. I have learnt to love myself (and my time) so I very quickly drop stuff that doesn’t interest me enough FL - Female Lead ML - Male Lead OG - original MC - Main Character
chaebol - South Korean term for a large family owned business conglomerate. If it’s in a review, it’s probably a CEO romance. Lol  isekai - literally other world. A lot of the series I read fall under this category and even the official manhwa/WEBTOON apps use this term. Is there an actual english word for this whole genre? oshi - basically means idol. the person/character you stan for Truck-kun - a meme in isekai. Because one of the most common ways in early series was for the main character to get hit by a truck and wake up in the fantasy world rofan - Romance Fantasy. The main genre of manhwa that I read (which is why most of them just have the FL and ML listed. lol)
