I have been watching ST Prodigy and can't get this idea for a BBC Ghosts Star Trek AU out of my head where the ghosts are holograms on an old, rundown ship Alison and Mike find drifting in space.
More thoughts on that under the cut:
the ship is an old training vessel for cadets that has been damaged in a battle and abandoned a long time ago
the holograms all represent different departments within the Federation: the Captain represents security, Fanny science, Thomas linguistics, Pat diplomacy, Julian command (though everyone secretly agrees that Fanny is more suited for the job), Robin tactics, Humphrey operations, Kitty morale, Annie flight control, Mary medicine and the Plague Ghosts engineering
some of the holograms have glitches, most obvious in Humphrey who's sometimes just a floating head without a body and sometimes just a body without a head (and sometimes both in different places at once) and Mary who panics every time she has to treat phaser burns, insisting she can smell them
none of them can interact with the physical world outside of their respective stations though Julian keeps on trying to
Thomas's programming got messed up when Cadet Francis Button thought it would be fun to put him in a holodeck scenario he couldn't win - his own Kobayashi Maru, so to speak - and see how long it would take him to break. None of the other holograms know how often he died in the duel scenario Francis programmed before the Captain put an end to it but they know it irreversibly changed him and made him unfit for combat situations
the former crew also messed with the original engineering hologram. Someone wasn't happy with it being a woman (Jean), so they duplicated and changed her. Unsatisfied with the attitude of the male counterpart they created (Walter), they made another one and then another one until the engine room was filled with a dozen holograms carrying a piece of the knowledge of the original that couldn't be pieced back together into one single hologram
Robin's speech programming was rough from the beginning on. He was one of the first hologram ever, a prototype, and got damaged during an attempted hostile takeover. The engineers did their best to help him but their own glitchy programming prevented them from accessing his code so Robin has been left struggling to communicate
Alison and Mike aren't too happy about sharing their ship with a bunch of weird holograms at first, especially when they realise the ship doesn't allow them to deactivate them
(finding the hologram of a little girl that isn't listed anywhere in the logs hiding in the vents around the holodeck and singing creepily to herself doesn't really help)
over time the holograms grow on them, though. They help them restore power and get the ship maneuverable again, make sure Alison and Mike know what they're doing and teach them all they know about the Federation and operation of a Starfleet vessel
with Alison and Mike's help, the holograms grow beyond their programming. Robin's speech improves, Humphrey's head and body are seen together more often, the Captain relaxes a little about possible intruders ...
eventually, Alison and Mike build them their own portable transmitters that allow the holograms to go wherever they please, both on and off the ship
Pat, realising they can now touch things, suggests they teach each other their respective tools of the trade. Mary learns how to fly, Robin spends hours in the lab with Fanny learning about the stars, the engineers are keen on learning about history and languages, Humphrey manages to coax Jemima out of the vents and so on
I'm not sure where I'm going with this. I just really, really like the idea of the ghosts as holograms that evolve past their programming and become part of the world around them again because two chaotic humans happened upon their ship in the middle of nowhere and decided to give them a chance.

Fanfics I Really Liked in March ´22
Tumblr media
So. Since I keep a list of what I´ve read anyway (there´s always a list), I will rec all the fics I´ve wholly enjoyed on a monthly basis. Old and new, canon or AU, big or small authors, long or short but nearly always Johnlock(-ish).
L.O.V.E. by @helloliriels
https://archiveofourown.org/works/34241245/chapters/85193302
A different first meeting and a soulmate AU. Beautifully written characters and a heart-warming love story bordering being poetry. Sigh.
Pinch Me by @ohlooktheresabee
https://archiveofourown.org/works/30039615
Sherlock goes to a St. Patrick´s Day party. Can´t say more because spoilers but this fic made me grin the whole time. Although I was suspecting “something” the fic still surprised me in a very delightful way.
Limerence by SherlockWatson_Holmes
https://archiveofourown.org/works/14903963/chapters/34519442
The East Wind Echoes by SherlockWatson_Holmes
https://archiveofourown.org/works/28690623/chapters/70337751
Two fics by the same author who manages to balance the re-invention of (parts of) S4 with BBC canon. Much more believable storyline imho and suspenseful plots that sometimes hit you hard in the gut. No archive warnings chosen by author, just so you know...
The Grit on the Lens by Silvergirl @totallysilvergirl
https://archiveofourown.org/works/32684143
John teaches Sherlock about emotions. 1416 words, each one is perfect, poetic and lyrical. I only feel adoration for this writing style.
How To Give Your Boyfriend Who Doesn´t Know He´s Your Boyfriend the Best Valentine´s Day Ever by unicornpoe
https://archiveofourown.org/works/13689123
What is says on the tin. Sherlock deduces that John is his boyfriend and now he only has to ensure John realizes that, too. Unadulterated and unrepentant fun.
To the Vicctor Go the Spoils by @cumbercurlygirl
https://archiveofourown.org/works/37285351/chapters/93032005
Bratty rider Sherlock + annoyed stablehand John = angry sex in the straw. Steamy!
----------------------------------------------------
Special feature: The author I_ship_an_armada
https://archiveofourown.org/users/i_ship_an_armada/works
I love their AUs! So imaginative, often romantic, more often with delicious hurt/comfort.
For example, piratelock “A further Sea” (it´s on my pirate AU rec list, of course), “Of chaos and calculation” Roman AU, “Perdition´s Flames” STID crossover, “The Ghost and Doctor Watson” ghostlock, unfinished but still worth a read and many many more.

Favorite fics of 2012
2012 was when things really started happening in earnest in the fandom. There was a veritable explosion of fic, and many of the absolute classics were posted. I have something like 15 pages of bookmarks from that year, and as such, it was incredibly hard to narrow things down to a manageable number for a rec list. Here are the ones that I felt are the must-reads, that have stuck with me the longest and strongest.
A Cure For Boredom by emmagrant01 (81K, E, Johnlock, John/OCs) They'd never talked about sex in the year they'd known each other. Well, that wasn't quite correct: Sherlock had never said a word about sex; John had bemoaned his personal dearth of it on many occasions.
A Goose Quill Dipped in Venom by Polyphony (52K, M, Johnlock) Sherlock Holmes, consulting detective, is called in to a very ordinary although brutal murder. Something is badly out of tune with the whole scenario and Sherlock finds himself becoming more and more obsessed with the crime - and also with the victim.
Across the Sky by Mazarin221b (23K, E, Johnlock) Top Gun AU. After an accident that nearly cost the life of his previous RIO, Lieutenant John Watson (Call sign Doc) has grown reckless and arrogant, but an even better pilot than he was before. A heroic maneuver and complete chance sends him and his new RIO (call sign Copper) to Fallon, Nevada, home of Top Gun.  Problem is, the ghosts of John's past could cost them more than just the Top Gun trophy—it could also cost John a chance at happiness.
An Avalanche Of Detour Signs by gyzym (56K, M, Mollstrade) In which Molly Hooper gets a job, gets a degree, breaks a heart, has her heart broken, falls in love, keeps a secret, saves a life, runs a morgue, falls apart, pulls it together, and finds exactly what she didn't know she was looking for--not necessarily in that order.
Applications and Practices of Basic Arithmetic by 1electricpirate (128K, M, Johnlock) After Reichenbach and in order to 1) Keep Sherlock alive, 2) Keep John alive and 3) Get Sherlock home to England as soon as possible, Mycroft devises a plan that will not only incentivise John's continued sanity and survival but force Sherlock to come running. It is a perfect plan, though perhaps less than ethically sound. He has no doubts that using frozen samples of your younger brother's sperm to create children for his husband to care for falls deeply within the realm of socially unacceptable behaviour, but it is efficient, and that is what matters most.
Ava Watson verse by keeliethompson1 (347K, M, Johnlock) Five year old Ava Watson's life is changed forever when her Daddy's old friend comes calling.
Be Here Now Universe by Todesfuge (181K, M, Johnlock) John Watson was already fighting demons when he and Sherlock met. With Sherlock's suicide, it all comes flooding back, forcing Sherlock to intervene before he's solved the persistent riddles of Jim Moriarty and his game. Together they find that something darker lurks behind Moriarty, forcing Sherlock, John, and Irene Adler into an even deadlier game with a much more dangerous foe.  Begins six months after the events of The Reichenbach Fall.
Burn Down & Reignite by augustbird (20K, E, Johnlock) When love isn't enough.
Castle and Sand by grey853 (158K, E, Johnlock) Sherlock and John both have difficult pasts that affect their evolving relationship. When John prevents a mugging, it sets off a dangerous chain of events that not only impacts him, but his whole family. In the end there's a wedding and a honeymoon, but will there really be a happy ending?
Cinnamon series by lbmisscharlie (150K, E, Johnlock) When Sherlock invites John to live with him, he fails to mention that he's a single father to a four-year-old girl.
Collared by VelvetMace (83K, E, Johnlock, John/Sarah) In a world where the British Empire is still strong and slavery is her economic backbone, John has become a terrorist for the abolitionist movement. He is caught by Mycroft, enslaved, and given to Sherlock for training. The goal: To test a new kind of slave collar with the power to break even the strongest willed fighter. One that will make even John learn to love being a slave.
Common Grounds by couchbarnacle (66K, M, Johnlock) John Watson is working at Holmes Manor for the summer and is caught up in the whirlwind that is Sherlock Holmes. Teen AU.
Electric Pink Hand Grenade by BeautifulFiction (67K, E, Johnlock) "If Sherlock's brain is a hard drive, then these attacks are an electro-magnetic pulse." Sherlock Holmes does not do anything by half, not even a migraine. It falls to John to witness one of the greatest minds he has ever known tear itself apart, and he must do his best to help Sherlock pick up the pieces.
End of the Story by kres (53K, E, Johnlock) Post-Reichenbach. The return, the fallout, the pieces you pick up.
Equilibrium by augustbird (12K, M, Johnlock) At Baskerville, John is infected by a virus that turns him into a genius. But when the infection progresses into neurodegeneration, it's a race against time to save himself. Flowers for Algernon fusion.
Given In Evidence by verityburns (97K, M, Johnlock) Coming back from the dead can be a complicated business. With a new case on the horizon, rebuilding a life is one thing... rebuilding a friendship quite another. For Sherlock and John, things may never be just the same...
Hearts At Home series by yalublyutebya (74K, M, Johnlock, Viclock) A series of stories chronicling the intertwined lives of Father John Watson and Sherlock Holmes.
Just a Kiss by emmagrant01 (19K, E, Johnlock) Five times John and Sherlock kissed because of a case and one time they kissed for real.
Limping Forward series by bendingsignpost (58K, E, Johnlock) As the newest instructor at St. Bart's, John has been explicitly warned to never do Sherlock Holmes any favours. Too bad the sex is so good.
More Things Than Are Dreamt Of series by 1electricpirate (37K, E, Johnlock) In which John is (reluctantly) a wizard, Mycroft is (apparently) omniscient, and Sherlock is (surprisingly) oblivious.
Murderous Imprint by MojoFlower (52K, E, Johnlock) Sherlock should be focusing on the series of brutal vivisections Lestrade has brought to him. Instead he's distracted by a most amazing and unexpected experimental opportunity from the basement apartment of 221C. Will he figure out the one in time to stop the other? And does he need help in order to do it?
Renegades by augustbird (39K, E, Johnlock) Sherlock Holmes takes down Moriarty’s syndicate.  He also takes John Watson with him.
School For Scandal (orphaned) (222K, E, Johnlock) Sherlock lusts from afar. John tries to fool himself. (Boarding school AU)
Spectrum series by thisprettywren (95K, E, Johnlock) In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.
Stranger at the Gate by bendingsignpost (85K, E, Johnlock) As far as initiation rites go, kidnapping a human doctor from a defended town ought to seem extreme. When James Moriarty offers him the challenge, Sherlock never considers saying no. (Fantasy vampire AU)
Northwest Passage by Kryptaria (95K, E, Johnlock) Seven years ago, Captain John Watson of the Canadian Forces Medical Service withdrew from society, seeking a simple, isolated life in the distant northern wilderness of Canada. Though he survives from one day to the next, he doesn't truly live until someone from his dark past calls in a favor and turns his world upside-down with the introduction of Sherlock Holmes.
Our Brave Boys by unknownsister (29K, E, Johnlock) John worked himself to the bone to get into military school. He meets Sherlock Holmes, who doesn't want to be there at all. Sherlock simultaneously insults him and turns his curiosity up to eleven, in mind and body. As if John doesn't have enough to deal with.
Our Enthusiasms Which Cannot Always Be Explained by withoutawish (32K, M, Johnlock) The list that is tacked haphazardly on the refrigerator of 221B reads, ‘Kidney(s), and/or a full cadaver (preferably male, late 30s, under six feet tall), bag of fresh toes, sixteen cow’s eyes (corneas retained), dual exhaust hand –held flame thrower, an unopened first edition copy of Joseph Conrad’s 'Heart of Darkness', and no less than ten abhorrently gruesome murders in the upcoming month.”  The one neatly hanging next to it simply reads, “Sex.” One of these lists is not John Watson’s. If John Watson were to put what he really wanted in list form, to live in a land somewhere beyond ‘almosts' now that Sherlock Holmes has indeed returned to him, he would never be able to look his flatmate in the eye ever again.
Tennis series by Jupiter_Ash (216K, E, Johnlock) John and Sherlock are professional tennis players and it’s Wimbledon. One is a broken almost was at the end of his career, the other an arrogant rising star tipped for greatness. It should have been a straightforward tournament. It really should have been. How were they to know that a chance encounter would change everything?
The Bone Fiddle by htebazytook, Vulgarweed (61K, E, Johnlock) Appalachian AU! In November 1973, Vietnam vet John Watson returns to his family's old home in Arthel County, West Virginia, deep in coal country. His low expectations include recuperation and boredom. Instead he finds a ruined landscape, a series of grisly murders, and one of the world's weirdest neighbors.
The Brave and The Cunning series by thequeergiraffe (95K, E, Johnlock, Adlock, Sarah/John, Sheriarty) This series will have one fic per Sherlock episode, with series one being set in John's 6th year (and Sherlock's 5th) and series two being set in John's 7th and final year at Hogwarts. Fics will have similar (but nowhere near identical) plots to the actual BBC Sherlock episodes, with most locations being replaced with HP-universe settings. This series is set well after the Second Wizarding War and involves next to none of the HP characters, instead using Sherlock characters and the occasional minor OC.
The Fabric of Life (orphaned) (156K, E, Johnlock) The fabric of life rearranges itself around the re-emergence of Sherlock.
The Good Morrow series by greywash (216K, E, Johnlock) My post-S2 series where everyone has a lot of feels about everything and plausibility is stretched unto breaking. Also: fucking.
The Great Sex Olympics of 221B by XistentialAngst (58K, E, Johnlock; John/OCs, Sherlock/OCs) John Watson thinks Sherlock Holmes should admit that he, Watson, is more of an expert on sex than Sherlock is.  But Sherlock refuses to concede the point.  He comes up with an experiment plan that will resolve the issue.  The results will determine who wins the prize.  But sometimes even the best thought-out scientific study has unexpected consequences.
The Green Blade by verityburns (72K, T, Gen) As a serial killer hits the headlines, the police are out of their depth and the next victim is out of time. With faith in Sherlock Holmes at an all time low, this is a case which will push loyalties to the limit...
The Iceman Cometh by Polyphony (60K, M, Johnlock, Viclock) An intriguing puzzle tempts Sherlock to accept Victor Trevor's invitation to the French Riviera, but all is not what it seems. Frustrated by the case and increasingly concerned about an absent John, Sherlock uncovers far more than he was meant to and is forced to become a fugitive, pursued by those on both sides of the law, as he fights for his freedom and the lives of all those around him.
The Making Of by emmagrant01 (58K, E, Johnlockstrade) In the aftermath of Sherlock's death, John Watson and Greg Lestrade take comfort in each other.  But of course, Sherlock isn't really dead, so this is all about to get complicated.
The Paradox Series by wordstrings (98K, E, Johnlock) In which what's in Sherlock's head is never going to get any better, and John is nearly thrown out of his flat.
The Prize by Trillsabells (101K, E, Johnlock) On 29 January 2010 an unknown Event wiped out 98% of the population. This is the story of the survivors, four months on.
The Quiet Man by ivyblossom (157K, E, Johnlock, Warstan) "Do you just carry on talking when I'm away?"
The Sustain Stories by maybe_amanda (151K, M, Sherlolly, John/Sarah) "So now you're behaving like a six year old 'cause he didn't take you along on his honeymoon?"  Lestrade said.  "Grow the hell up."
Through the Looking Glass by obsidienne (106K, M, Johnlock) When you chase criminals over rooftops, death is always a possibility. We woke up in 1889 instead. Which is not a place two men in a relationship want to be.
To Light Another's Path by BeautifulFiction (128K, E, Johnlock) Teaching John to observe seems to be a losing battle, but when Sherlock falls ill and submits himself to John's care, will he realise that there is more to life than the science of deduction? Meanwhile, there is a murder to solve, and John must try and convince Sherlock not to sacrifice his own health for the sake of the case.
Watches 'Verse by bendingsignpost (66K, E, Johnlock) First, he is shot in Afghanistan. Second, he wakes to a phone call in Chelmsford, Essex. Third is pain, fourth is normalcy, fifth is agony and sixth is confusion. By the eighth, he's lost track.

This Isn’t A Ghost Story extras for Chapter 4: The Past
Chapter 3 ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, but it’s finally Friday again, so chapter 4 of This Isn’t A Ghost Story has been posted! It can be found here on AO3, and here on Tumblr. Major spoilers below the cut, so be sure to read the chapter before reading this post!
With chapter 4 posted, we’ve reached the halfway mark through this story, and we’re finally starting to get answers to some of the bigger mysteries at the heart of this fic. Clearly there are more questions still to be answered, but the developments in this chapter is the crux of all of it.
This chapter builds on details first introduced in previous chapters, so a lot of the visuals referenced have already appeared in the extras for previous chapters. One new thing that came up this chapter was Clara visualizing the church where they got married. So often when I go looking for photographic references for parts of this story, I can only find things that are nearly right, but this time Glasgow gifted me with this utterly perfect beauty:
Tumblr media
St Simon’s church (originally St Peter’s) was built in 1858, and just so happens to be only a few miles from the University of Glasgow and the Kelvingrove art museum, that were both mentioned in chapter 3. I’m not going to delve into any questions of religion in this story, but I can certainly imagine Clara and the Doctor’s tiny wedding in this little church.
The “blue flowers” Clara remembers from their wedding are forget-me-nots -- I couldn’t resist having some blue in their wedding (maybe not quite TARDIS blue, but still), not to mention the added layer of symbolism in the name.
Tumblr media
Clara’s other memories parallel entries from the journal that recorded moments at the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities and the ancient city of Thebes, near modern-day Luxor.
Of course, the core of this chapter is really the reincarnation element. When I first started sketching out ideas for Ghost Story, I knew early on that I wanted to use reincarnation as one of the major building blocks, so in a lot of ways the second half of this chapter is the central scene that the entire narrative hinges around.
Given that this story takes place completely outside the context of the Doctor Who canon, reincarnation felt to me like an interesting way to parallel Clara’s echoes in canon, the way she and the Doctor meet out of order and the lasting influence it has on their forward-moving relationship. As in canon, in this story Clara grapples with “competing with a ghost” of a woman the Doctor had known before she met him, and she similarly comes to discover that it was actually her all along.
I’ve always really enjoyed love stories that center around reincarnation -- and in fact, I’ve written a story about reincarnation once before, in another fandom -- but it feels like it fits Clara and the Doctor even better than it fits most pairings, between her echoes and his regeneration. The ghost mystery was the first thing that drew me into writing this, but getting to tell a reincarnation love story was a very quick second.
In that vein, there are a couple of pieces of fiction that heavily influenced this story. I grew up watching and rewatching one of my mom’s favorite films, Dead Again, and I still love it nearly 30 years after it was first released. I highly recommend it to any of you who are particularly enjoying the genre of Ghost Story. The plot details vary enough that you won’t pick up any spoilers for this story from Dead Again (or vice versa, other than the obvious). I also listened to the soundtrack for Dead Again quite a lot while working on Ghost Story. It’s part of my normal writing playlist, but it felt especially fitting for this story.
In more recent years I also fell head over heels for the BBC Victoria AU fic Love In/And History. It’s a sprawling, ambitious epic of the sort that I couldn’t hope to write, and if you’re a fan of Victoria (which, of course, also starred Jenna Coleman) I cannot recommend it enough. Again, there are some similarities in theme but not plot, so if you’re looking for something to binge between now and next Friday, you can dive right into that one without worrying about spoilers for Ghost Story.
Prior to posting here and on AO3, each chapter of This Isn’t A Ghost Story had only been read by my husband Jack, who has been acting as my in-house beta reader, occasional task master, and all-around cheerleader. While I was working on Ghost Story, he was adamant about not wanting any spoilers for future chapters, which was really helpful in crafting the mystery, since I could use him to gauge how well the clues were rolling out. After he read chapter 3, he had a couple of guesses about where the story was leading, and one of them was reincarnation -- though, at his insistence, I didn’t tell him if any of his guesses were correct.
It’s been really interesting to watch some of you leave comments on previous chapters with guesses in the same direction! For me as the writer, all I can see are what feel like glaring clues laid out throughout the first three chapters, so it’s been reassuring to know that the clues are being picked up on, but they didn’t scream quite as loudly as it feels like to me. I am very curious to hear, though, if any of you were surprised by the way this chapter went? Did you think the clues were leading in another direction entirely?
That’s it for this week! I’ll be back next week with behind the scenes info for chapter 5. Thank you all again for all your comments, reblogs, and kudos! ❤️

My canon universe (although not at ALL canon compliant) multi-chapter fics.
A Fate Worse Than Death Rated M (Complete)
Summary: Sherlock has been kidnapped by a group of crazed cultists with but one aim in mind...Virgin Sacrifice! Molly Hooper to the rescue! Slight Mycroft bashing, Anthea's true identity hinted at, and various bits of nonsense. Crack!fic from start to finish.
A Study In Ink Rated M (In Progress)
Summary: Post Reichenbach AU. Every time he comes back, there’s more ink on his body. He says it’s to make up for the ink on his ledger, a way to hold onto his sense of self, his sanity, to keep from becoming a monster as he hunts the monsters down. But they both know it’s so much more than that.
Abandoned Rated M but not explicit (Complete)
Summary: Molly comes home to 221b to find Sherlock gone, leaving only a note - telling her to take their 8-month-old son and leave. But why? Established Sherlolly, parentlock loads of angst. Basically a soap opera. Molly cries way too much but to be fair, I wrote this one before S3.
All My Sins Remembered Rated M (Complete)
Summary: Post-HLV. Before his exile, Sherlock goes to Molly, who makes a request of him that he gladly fulfills. However, Moriarty is back and Sherlock isn't his first target.
Conversations With A Dead Detective Rated T (Complete)
Summary:  A series of conversations/confrontations post-Reichenbach, starting with John Watson, leading into others, concluding with Molly Hooper and building to a Sherlolly moment I hope everyone enjoys. Rated T for language mostly. First in the "Conversation Pieces" series and the first multi-chapter BBC Sherlock fic I ever wrote.
Dearly Beloved Rated T (Complete)
Summary:  Post HLV. Moriarty is back, but it isn't Sherlock he's after this time; it's Molly.
Dinner Conversation Rated T (Complete)
Summary:  Follow-up to "Conversations With A Dead Detective," second in the "Conversation Pieces" series. When Molly and Sherlock meet up with John, Mrs. Hudson and DI Lestrade at Angelo's, who will be the first to broach the forbidden subject of What Is Up With Molly and Sherlock?
EnCounters 4: Countermeasures Rated M (Complete)
Summary:  Moriarty has kidnapped a pregnant Molly in order to lure Sherlock out of hiding. Will his evil plan work? (4th in the series, the other 3 are smutty, smutty one-shots).
Furo Rated M (Complete, written with the fabulous @asteraceaeblue and with cover art by the equally fabulous @mel-loves-all)
Summary:  Jim Moriarty's apparent return from the dead heralds the dawning of a grim new chapter not only for Sherlock and Molly, but for the entire world. Two words: Zombie Apocalypse.
In Vino Veritas Rated T (Complete, Two-Parter)
Summary: It's been eight days since John's wedding...and Molly has called in sick to work for an entire week. What's a consulting detective to do except find out what's going on with his favorite pathologist?
Insipid Rated T (Complete)
Summary: At the St. Bart's Christmas party after Sherlock's return, Molly accidentally hears some harsh words about her and the world's only consulting detective...who takes it upon himself to set her straight when she wonders if they might be true.
On Paper Rated T (Complete)
Summary: A tumblr prompt!fic for theaddress-is-221b-bakerst, who wrote: Ahhhh I'm so excited! Sherlolly, rated T. Molly has trouble with a paper she's trying to publish and Sherlock helps her by bringing her coffee, buying her dinner, feeding Toby etc.(can you tell I'm at the end of my wits with uni?…). It can be Established Sherlolly or they're still pining for one another, as long as there's a happy end :)
Possession Rated M (Complete)
Summary: Post Reichenbach with a supernatural twist, but otherwise set in the BBC Sherlock universe. When a recently returned-from-the-dead Sherlock goes to the roof of St. Bart's to confront his ghosts, he doesn't expect to do so literally. But the angry spirit of Jim Moriarty has plans of his own…especially when it comes to a certain Pathologist.
Promises, Promises Rated T (Complete, Two-Parter)
Summary: Set after the end of TEH. He'd implicitly promised John that he wouldn't say anything. That he wouldn't ruin this for Molly. But how could he just stand by in silence when it was clear she was about to make the biggest mistake of her life?
Proving You Wrong Rated M (Complete)
Summary: This idea popped into my head after reading the post about Loo Brealey saying the sex with Jim was better than it was with Tom. Since that’s always been a particular HC of mine, it set the plot bunnies badooping through my brain and I wondered what Sherlock would think if he overheard Molly talking about how bad the sex with Tom was, and...yeah. This happened.
Return to Me Rated T (Complete)
Summary: Secret Relationship Meets Amnesia!fic set Post HLV. Molly is fighting for her life after Moriarty's dramatic (and unwanted) return. Sherlock tells John how the two of them first met...and about their secret marriage.
Sherlock v. Toby: Winner Take Molls Rated T (Complete)
Summary:  Molly's lap was the battlefield, Toby the cat was the enemy, and Sherlock Holmes was determined to be the victor.
When Darkness Falls Rated M (Complete)
Summary: Sherlock Holmes had been "dead" for approximately eighteen months when everything went to shit; Molly Hooper has gone missing. Dark, angsty story but with a light at the end of the tunnel.

Johnlock fic recs (1/?)
[AU edition 1/?]
As usual the fics I rec are complete except for one in this post and I try not to spoil the plot by keeping my comments to the minimum. I love how there’re so many AUs of Johnlock and they’re all so so good and hey they’re soulmates in every universe.
🔎 All We Ought To Ask by @achray. E, 56k. Victorian AU, John is a reverend.
“It’s a quiet parish,” Stamford added, beckoning to the maid to pour more.
“Apart from that heretic Holmes, of course,” said the Archdeacon. where the good things grow - anchors.
🔎 Mise en Place by @azriona. M, 161k. How can you make falling in love in 7 days believable? This is how. I adore this series as a whole and this in particular is a must-read.
John Watson had no intentions of taking over the family business, but when he returns from Afghanistan, battered and bruised, and discovers that his sister Harry has run their restaurant into the ground, he doesn’t have much choice. There’s only one thing that can save the Empire from closing for good – the celebrity star of the BBC series Restaurant Reconstructed, Chef Sherlock Holmes.
🔎 Bel Canto by @bendingsignpost. T, 127k. Phantomlock, secret identity, the times I’ve reread this.
After years of waiting for wealthy patrons to faint, Dr John Watson discovers a far more interesting patient in the opera house basement. (AU through a Phantom of the Opera lens.)
🔎 Cooperative Principle + Magnificent by bendingsignpost. E + T, 56k + 3k. Teacher!John, honestly I just adore every work of bendingsignpost.
As the newest instructor at St. Bart’s, John has been explicitly warned to never do Sherlock Holmes any favours. Too bad the sex is so good.
🔎 Watches ‘Verse by bendingsignpost. T to E, 66k. John in multiple realities
First, he is shot in Afghanistan. Second, he wakes to a phone call in Chelmsford, Essex. Third is pain, fourth is normalcy, fifth is agony and sixth is confusion. By the eighth, he’s lost track.
🔎 Empathy by Blind_Author. T, 36k. Psychic!John. I love John-centric or John’s POV fics and this one is an oldie but goodie.
John is an empath. Which isn’t nearly as much fun as it sounds. Most of the time, it’s not even useful.
🔎 Faerie-Touched by Blind_Author. T, 9k. They’re still the same but magical. Cute and would make you want more sequels.
In a world of sorcerers and magic, Sherlock is a Faerie-born and John, lacking any kind of magical talent, often seems a bit out of place. But he has a gift all his own…
🔎 To the Sticking Place by @blueink3. E, 122k. Theatre AU. Both of them are cast for Hamlet and the UST is just *-*
Renowned Shakespearean actor Sherlock Holmes has finally burned all of his bridges in the theatre industry save for his constant director, Greg Lestrade. John Watson has made a name for himself in the musical theatre circuit, but age and injury are working against him. Can they reinvent themselves for an all-male Macbeth without killing one another?
🔎 Mental by Boeshane42. E, 18k.
Sherlock Holmes is a patient in a closed psychiatric ward. John Watson is his new psychiatrist.
🔎 Dehumanise Me by deuxexmycroft. E, 27k.
John is sent down for life after accidentally murdering someone, and gets snatched up to play prison wife for a strange man named Sherlock Holmes.
🔎 The Loss of Flesh and Soul by deuxexmycroft. E, 70k. Hannibal AU. WIP, probably dropped but it’s so good I couldn’t resist.
Five years after John Watson puts the murderous Sherlock Holmes behind bars, a vicious copycat killer emerges. A reluctant John is pulled out of retirement to seek the expertise of the only man who can help, a man who has developed an unsettling obsession with John himself.
🔎 Misdialed by DLanaDHZ. T, 63k. It has everything I love: time travel, communication via phones, creative plot, meet-cute (?).
John needs a new phone, one that doesn’t bend time and have an amazing man on the other end who claims to be the world’s greatest detective, except that he can’t figure out how he called Dr. Watson instead of his brother. However, with a criminal mastermind on the loose, John’s phone connection may be the only thing that can save them both.
🔎 The Bang and the Clatter by @earlgreytea68. M, 137k. Baseball AU. For someone who hates sports I sure read a lot of sports au fics.
Sherlock Holmes is a pitcher and John Watson is a catcher.
🔎 John Watson’s Twelve Days of Christmas by @earlgreytea68. M, 53k. Christmas fic. Fake dating and meet-cute
It’s the holiday season. John Watson needs money. Sherlock Holmes needs something else.
🔎 On His Majesty’s Secret Service by eyeus. E, 12k. Spy!John.
It’s a question of limits, and a fine line that John treads in the struggle to balance his duties and his burgeoning affection for his flatmate. AU where John is a retired spy recruited for one final mission.
🔎 Across the Desert, Upon the Wind by hogwartswitch. E, 33k. I love Eros and Psyche and I feel there are elements of it in this.
While out on a routine sweep in the desert, John and one of his teammates get lost in a sandstorm and end up at the foot of an enormous palace. They meet - and anger - a cursed prince who spares their life in exchange for John staying behind. But the prince has a secret and John soon discovers it, plunging himself in a quest across the desert fraught with danger.
Loosely based on the fairy tales “Beauty and the Beast” and “East of the Sun, West of the Moon”.
🔎 The Measure of a Gentleman by @ishipanarmada. E, 67k. Pride and Prejudice AU but same sex marriage is legal
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a partner.
Less universally acknowledged is that a single man in possession of very little in the way of fortune may be in want of a partner as well, but John Watson had little time or energy to devote to his own wants or needs…
Enter one Mr Holmes…
🔎 A Further Sea by i_ship_an_armada. E, 125k. It’s them but they’re pirates.
Here be a tale of adventure for both body and soul, but beware if ye be not of stout heart, for this be piratelock, ya savvy? Luckless ship’s surgeon John Watson takes a chance, and finds himself eye to eye with The Ghost, the scourge of the seven seas and a definite thorn in the side of the blaggard, James Moriarty. But when John finds there’s more to this most cunning pirate than be meetin’ the eye, he has to choose–is it a pirate’s life for him?
🔎 Old Friends by inspiration_assaulted. T, 2k. Texting and pre-s2.
In which John and Mycroft are old friends, and Mycroft texts.
🔎 You Go To My Head series by @jbaillier . M, 49k.
This series is an alternate universe one, featuring the exciting medical and romantic adventures of doctors Watson (senior neuroanaesthetist) and Holmes (neurosurgeon).
🔎 He’s Not Paid Enough to Deal with This Shit by janonny. T, 10k. John works for Mycroft and Sherlock tries to lure him to 221B as usual. Fun and cute read. I wish there was more.
One of the first things John did was to write up step-by-step instructions on how to conduct a proper job interview before handing it over to Mycroft for his perusal. There were no kidnapping, deserted car parks or stolen therapy notes anywhere on that list.
(Or the one where John returned from the war and ended up working for Mycroft as his personal assistant slash doctor on retainer. Everything was fine, until he was sent to post bail for one Sherlock Holmes.)

From Cape Town to Connecticut: Totem’s 2016
Looking back on the milestones, adventures, and misadventures of 2016: what a year it was! Jamie’s a database guy: thanks to him we have some serious metrics and some silly ones. We closed out with 3,057 days as cruisers, one of our biggest mileage years yet, and a host of unforgettable experiences.
Logbook stats
14 – countries/territories visited in 2016: South Africa; Namibia; British Overseas Territories of St Helena, Ascension, Montserrat, and Bermuda; Barbados; Dominica; overseas departments of France: Martinique, Guadeloupe, and Saint Martin; territories of the Netherlands, Saint Eustatius and Sint Maartin; USA
11,027 – miles in 2016 (9,582 NM)… a daysail less than our 2010 miles sailed.
50,244 – miles total (43,661 NM), yeah, we passed 50k!
266 – miles of best 24-hour run (231 NM), Ascension Island to Barbados
3,570 – miles of longest passage (3,102 NM), Ascension Island to Barbados completed in 17 days
Somewhere in the Atlantic. March or April
Misadventures
1 – number of kayaks lost at sea, between Bermuda and USA – big waves + broken stanchion = sad day!
1 – number of medical events, when a barefoot Siobhan stepped on a cactus on Ile Au Cabrit, Guadeloupe. Spines removed and patient remains a staunch barefooter!
8 – bells tolled for Totem’s beloved first hamster, Jiaozi, who joined us in Thailand and ended her watch in Martinique
Ghost town of Kolmanskopp, Namibia. February
Crew adventures
90 – kilograms of propane (198 lbs) for cooking…and some cabin heat, late in the year
13 – presentations given from Cape Cod to the Chesapeake
66 – fieldtrips! – epic hikes, rich museums, fascinating people, incredible experiences: a mid-Atlantic BBC relay station, Napoleon’s (first) tomb, JFKs birth home, sea turtles laying eggs at dawn, the White House’s West Wing, science lessons from The Global Dude for starfish, ghost towns in the desert, etc. Lucky humans we are.
1 – number of boats we watched sink for an artificial reef in Barbados
What a kid! Guadeloupe. May
Fauna
11 – cuteness rating (1 to 10 scale) of baby goats on cactus-laden Ile Au Cabrit that certain barefoot girls liked to chase.
0 – number of elusive f@&#ing whale sharks seen in St Helena, at yet ANOTHER place “everyone” sees them (that’s four hotspots now)
500ish – number of visitors on Totem in 2016. Total speculation, and probably low, between a couple of open boat parties and a general bias for socializing with our fellow humans
Legal capacity? Noank, Connecticut. August
Local conditions
55 – degrees Fahrenheit (12.8  C) of the Benguela Current along the edge of the Namib Desert made for amazing animal life: sea birds, whales, dolphins, sea lions, PENGUINS, and jellyfish
3.9 – depth in feet (1.2 meters), the least we’ve been ever (by far!), is the marina we’re now in – dock master said we may touch at low tide with Totem’s draft of 6.0 feet – he was right…
3.6 – number of feet (1.1 meters) by which we did NOT fit under bridges Totem was required to pass under, engendering creativity to squeeze beneath.
Rooftop drinks with Mike & Kim before the White House. November
This is about the numbers… but the year was really about people. The new friends, like Mike & Kim (above) who gave us indelible memories along the way. It was about the many reunions with familiar faces, and thanks to the internet, all the “old friends” we could meet for the first time.
Manhattan. September
The data on 2015– 365 days, 7,988 miles, 2 oceans, 1 boat–is posted here for giggles and judgment.
South Carolina. December
