Super Saiyan Tingly Feeling
Caulifla's transformation into Super Saiyan 1/2 is trashy and underwhelming and demystifies Super Saiyan, but I also love it as the logical conclusion for Super Saiyan fan theories.
Like... Goku could turn Super Saiyan all the way back in Namek saga. Caulifla and Kale are wAAAAAAAAY stronger than Goku was back at Namek, so it makes sense that their bodies are able to handle not only SSJ1, but also higher forms of SSJ. If one's ability to turn super saiyan is capped by their body's own strength, rather than being inherent to all Saiyans regardless of power, then this makes sense.
We can also view this compared to Goten and Trunks. Now, Future Trunks had to train quite hard to turn Super Saiyan, he had to feel "the Rage", but he and Gohan got there as children, much sooner than Goku. Then, in the main timeline, Goten and Trunks both seemed to have an inherent super saiyan ability. In Trunks' case, the presence of Vegeta and Goten would have made him more likely to discover this ability, and in Goten's case, not only was Goku already a super saiyan when he was concieved (unlike Gohan and future Trunks), he's also had Trunks and Gohan (and ChiChi???) to compete with. The higher base power level combined with a competitive environment helped them out.
So, Kale and Caulifla are much stronger than Goten and Trunks, who seemed to always have the ability to transform without the need for any sort of blood ending rage (unless you count being a kid).
How does a Super Saiyan transform without feeling blood ending rage? Well it obviously happens all the time. While Vegeta is always mad, and Gohan sometimes needs that extra push, Goten and Trunks and Goku clearly do not need anger to transform.
So, of course, they do it via a "tingly feeling on their back"!!!! How mechanical. It's so stupid, but I love it.
Only Caulifla who probably doesn't feel rage any more than Goku required this method to learn to transform. Her body is incredibly strong so she could reach SSJ2 off the bat. The show teases SSJ3, I think she does have the physical strength for it, it probably requires a psychological push though. Even Gotenks didn't go SSJ3 until Goten watched his mother die and trained super hard.
Kale, though... I'd be shocked if this was the first time Kale transformed. Her form is just called "a berserk super saiyan" in show, but it's clearly "legendary super saiyan" from the movies. She has so much gay anger that I can imagine her transforming once before to beat the shit out of someone who smacktalked Caulifla or got too close to her. Maybe Caulifla is so strong that Goku was the first, but it's clear that Kale is the physically stronger of the two girls, even with Caulifla's super saiyan 2.
Cabba got the Vegeta treatment and Vegeta probably isn't aware of the tingly-feeling-on-your-back method. He just uses his unending well of rage to transform every time. He wouldn't teach Cabba such a pussy haxxor method of going Super Saiyan. Cabba needs to understand the RAGE OF HIS ANCESTORS.

The Guardians of Otherworld
About 13-15 years ago I started a DBZ fanfic that was called "Guardians of Otherworld".
It started with Goku dying from old age and ending up in the afterlife, where he realized that all his friends and family who died before him - Chichi, Bulma, Vegeta, Krillin ... had been allowed to keep their bodies.
They all live in a giant mansion that looked a lot like Capsule Corp, and the first thing Goku does is eat the food set out on a table. But well, uhm - it was Vegeta's, because now there's TWO people that are still hungry even when dead, and Vegeta's pissed because fucking Kakarot ate his food.
Lord Kaio then explains to him that after Buu they decided they couldn't lose the strength of the last two full-blooded Saiyans in the universe, so Vegeta and Goku get to keep their bodies. And everyone else too, because no one wants to risk leaving Goku and Vegeta alone without at least some distraction lmao.
Bulma tells Goku that she's glad he's finally here because Vegeta who's been dead for ten years, was so bored without a proper opponent to fight that he was absolutely unbearable.
And Vegeta is very excited to show off how strong he's gotten while training in Otherworld ...
In chapter two Goku and Vegeta go to have their big rematch on the world of the Kaioshin, because everything's a mess there after Buu anyways.
They fight, and during this fight Vegeta reveals that he finally achieve SSJ3 in the afterlife, and that this is the whole secret: the vers first transformation to SSJ3 needs so much energy that a living person can't possibly do it. Gotenks was an exception because the rules for a fusion are different.
(Ngl I've kept this headcanon ever since lol]
Anyways, Vegeta defeats Goku in that rematch and he's learned teleportation too from some dead Yardrat peeps.
The fic ends after chapter two and I never picked it up again but here's some highlights:
Bulma is an Otherworld celebrity bc she keeps inventing cool stuff
Vegeta and Goku have to do the dishes together. It ends with them slapping each other with wet dishcloths
Chichi pulls Vegeta back by his tail when he tries to leave the dishes undone
Getting enough food for Vegeta and Goku to Otherworld is a real pain in the ass
Old Kai was against the entire idea of letting them keep their bodies but he's come around since Roshi died. They're besties (guess why)
Goku and Vegeta are constantly fighting over food and turn everything into a competition
It's not very well written but there are some funny bits I have to admit. Lol.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero - Quick Review
Tumblr media
So, I couldn't quite wait. I've heard good things from it so I had to see it for myself
Super Hero is Dragon Ball Super's second movie and yet another push in a different animation style, so I'm gonna go through what I thought was good and what was bad.
Spoilers for the Movie
So I liked the movie, I have to preface that because the negatives may seem to be longer than the positives, so to clarify, some of them are small gripes in the greater scheme of things.
Let's start with the negatives though
What I didn't like
So let's get it out the way; Final Gohan and Orange Piccolo. In concept it was great, but the designs were overkill. Piccolo with the SSJ3 brow that still doesn't work and Gohan with the oversized and overjagged hair. Orange Piccolo as a name is uninspired too, and I don't think Final Gohan actually needed a form change
I also don't approve of the method, Orange Piccolo is only possible thanks to Shenron adding 'a little bonus' to unleashing his potential, and Gohan goes Final Gohan having seen Piccolo almost die...compared to all the previous times Gohan has seen Piccolo almost die and Goku actually die, so it's a tad weak.
I know 'power scaling' is a bane of many an anime and especially Dragon Ball, but it does feel weird that 1 billion zeni is enough to create an android that's a physical match for Mystic Gohan. And that Shenron is capable of power boosting Piccolo to be above that level - since Orange Piccolo bitch slapped Gamma 2 while Gohan struggled against Gamma 1. It does render Supreme Kai's potential unleashed weak compared to simply wishing for more power, and by that matter renders training quite redundant.
Also why hasn't Dende upgraded Shenron to be the most powerful it can be? Surely we would need such upgrades for dire situations?
I don't understand why we wrote Beerus to have a crush on Cheelai, it feels weird, especially since she's only playing along to keep his hospitality
If you didn't know that Oreos were sponsoring the movie by god do you get it told, lots of Oreo overkill in this
Unfortunately 90% of the film does feel rather stakeless, just Red Ribbon Army back to their bullshit and Piccolo and Pan basically pranking Gohan into being more committed to acknowledging threats without leaning back on Goku and Vegeta - who are always off-world anyway.
Sadly this also means Krillin, 18, Goten and Trunks' inclusion is weak, they're just there for padding numbers and comedy. Krillin being gutless to start and all of the Gotenks stuff didn't land with me. Feel like we could've replaced Gotenks at least with Videl, who is blissfully unaware that Piccolo had staged her daughter being kidnapped. Also Tien could've filled Krillin's role to complete the set of non-Goku fighters who fought Cell before, I mean Krillin uses the Solar Flare so they could've swapped them out, even a mention outside the Cell saga montage would've sufficed
I don't know how to feel about Hedo, he's a lot older than he looks for one and though he seems fun and sympathetic he's also naive and murderous. It's not surprising that DB characters forgive murderers of course but he didn't seem like he repented that activity. His conclusion was weird too, if cosmetics were his calling it would've made more sense but it seemed more like a way to write him out even though he could be a valuable resource. Also how did he not know that Red Ribbon were evil when making Cell, he would've been old enough to remember Cell threatening to blow up the world.
And...Cell Max. That was an awful kaiju surprise villain, utilising the worst of the Cell designs and mixing it with Shin Godzilla. It was heavily meh and could've been done better.
Overall this did feel like a 'meme movie', leaning more onto pop culture perceptions (most of which guided by the Abridged Series) such as Piccolo being the responsible parent, Goku being the absolute moron, Krillin being the joke fighter, and even giving Vegeta a 'win' over Goku in the post credits scene, it might be considered fanservice but it does play more to the jokes than the canon.
It didn't quite help either that this followed a similar structure to the Broly movie but without the fleshing of the new character. We introduced the misguided villain, who is approached by actual villains to target the heroes, Bulma wants the Dragon Balls for something trivial and superficial, we swap around some fights until we reach the rage monster, Piccolo helps guide the fighters to a new form, new form wins, slightly villainous characters become allies. Nothing wrong with a formula, but you have to make it less glaring.
What I did like
The new art style was hit and miss at times, especially for the out of focus characters, but overall it was quite successful. You don't really get hit with the uncanny valley and for a first try it was pretty good. I'd probably still prefer the old Broly style but this was still good.
It was very refreshing that the movie was more of a Piccolo and Gohan movie than a Goku and Vegeta movie. Because it does make the world feel more lived in. Granted we could've used a bit more fleshing out of the other characters to validate their appearance but it was a nice change of pace, we could do more of these for the other Z Fighters.
Though a little unnecessary, I did like that we don't just forget about the Broly stuff, he's learning to control his power and from it Goku's getting stronger and Vegeta's learning to be more efficient with his power, this is positive signs too for Super's next season if they intend to use Broly more.
Like Broly last movie, Toriyama has put in the work to fix Pan as a character. The girl who was annoying and hated in GT is charming and adorable in Super Hero, so yeah all the Pan stuff was surprisingly great.
The Gammas were also pretty enjoyable, fun misguided villains who make the U-Turn when answering to reason. Gamma 2's sacrifice was earned for being the more exposed Gamma, but they still have room to use Gamma 1 more, even if it's on the smaller scale of helping Earth-scale threats with Mr Satan or teaming up with the Great Saiyaman.
I can see people finding Bulma making extremely minor wishes (most of which to make her look younger) on the Dragon Balls - as a means to prevent Resurrection F again - as a negative, but I'm holding onto a small bit of hope that it may lead to something. Perhaps another Super movie this time trying to fix GT's brighter spot of the Shadow Dragons. One hopes at least...
And there we have it, it was an enjoyable movie full of some fanservice stuff. It has its flaws and the main villain's rather weak, but that's not too different to a lot of Dragon Ball films. The less you dissect it the more you'll probably enjoy it.

Dragon Ball GT 38
Tumblr media
GT stands for Gastrointestinal Torture✨
Tumblr media
✨Is this episode worse than “The Roaming Lake”?✨
Yes, this episode is automatically worse than “The Roaming Lake”, because this is the one where Goten and Trunks are about to fuse and Goku tells them not to.
Tumblr media
This is the dumbest thing this show has ever done.  Goten and Trunks haven’t done shit-all this entire series.  Everyone just wanted to see Adult Gotenks, and this piece-of-crap anime refused to deliver.  Well, you know what, Dragon Ball GT?  We don’t need your broken promises anymore!   This is the 21st century!  And we have Dragon Ball Heroes.
Tumblr media
Look at this.  Look at this.  GT Gotenks.  You love to see it.
Am I overreacting?  I don’t think I am.  They put Gotenks in Battle of Gods, Dragon Ball Super and DBS Super Hero.  He didn’t even do that much in any of those shows, but they still put him in there because the people love Gotenks, and they just like to see how he’s doin’.
But not GT!  Noooooo.  The people making GT heard fans asking “Please sir, might you favor us with a crumb of Gotenks?” and they were like “Bleah, bleah!  No Gotenks for anyone!  Bleah!”
“The Roaming Lake” is a lot of things.  Stupid, yes.  Boring, certainly.  But it’s not a liar.  Nam was trying to get water for his village and dammit, they got some water.
We all know the REAL Goku wouldn’t turn down some Gotenks action.  He’s the one who taught Goten and Trunks how to do it. He would have been like, “Yeah, boys, do some fusion, this is gonna kick ass!”  And then SSJ3 Gotenks would have busted out Stardust Breaker and one-shotted Baby.  Then Vegeta would have woken up and said “No, I can’t be satisfied with this victory, not until Kakarot and I fuse so we can face our sons in awesome fusion battle, men-to-men.”  And then it would have been Gotenks vs. Gogeta in a heartwarming father-son match on Planet Vegeta.
✨ “Good” “Ideas”, Poorly Executed✨
All right, let me back up and provide some context for this travesty.
Tumblr media
So Baby and Goku were both knocked out last episode, but Baby got a reviving dose of Blutz waves from Bulma, while Goku is running on fumes.  Kibitoshin is arranging support for him, but they aren’t ready yet.  So Baby starts teeing of on Goku, because, hey, it’s a free shot. It’s like when you have Goten and Trunks in your anime, and you know you could just have them fuse into Gotenks whenever you want.  Why would you hold back?  Sorry, I’m getting off-track.
Tumblr media
Anyway, Pan rushes into defend her grandfather, and it’s a pretty heroic scene, but Kozo Morishita said Pan can’t have a hero moment, so Baby just smacks her down again.  You know, they really should have turned Pan Super Saiyan, if only to justify her getting clobbered by Baby without getting seriously hurt.   It’s just such an obvious thing to do, like having Gotenks in your show... Oh, I’m doing it again, aren’t I?
So Baby moves into finish off Pan, because apparently he can trade blows with a Super Saiyan 4, but he needs multiple tries to kill a base-form Saiyan child.  Then Goku tries to hold him at bay, but Baby knows he’s helpless, so he just keeps going, until...
Tumblr media
Trunks shows up to make the save.  Cool!  I don’t know why his ki blast could stop Baby, but SSJ4 Goku’s couldn’t, but at least he got here in time.   Trunks turns Super Saiyan, and tries to fight Baby by himself, but he gets nowhere.  This uppercut he delivers looks cool, but it doesn’t actually hurt Baby at all.
Baby then tells Trunks that he’s currently inhabiting Vegeta’s body, which is weird because I thought Trunks already knew this.  I mean, it’s kind of unclear whether people remember what they did while they were under Baby’s control, but Trunks found out about Baby possessing Vegeta before he got Tuffleized.  Where else would Baby have gotten a Super Saiyan Oozaru to ride around in?
Tumblr media
Then Goten, Gohan, and Kibitoshin arrive and rescue Trunks, and they all regroup to discuss their strategy.  And this is where Goten and Trunks propose fusion, but Goku insists that it won’t work, even if they all attack at once.  So what should they do, then?
Tumblr media
Well, this, basically.  Goku wants the boys to turn Super Saiyan and give him their power.  This will restore him to full strength, and since he’s a Super Saiyan 4, he’ll have what it takes to defeat Baby once and for all.
All right, so let me deconstruct this idea, because I hate it so, so, much.
I don’t claim to understand power scaling.  But I’ve never been able to comprehend how characters pooling their power into one teammate is better than just fighting together as a group.  I had the same grip with the Broly movie, which is probably where this episode got the idea from, although we also see a similar trick used in the Lord Slug movie, and Baby used it a few episodes back when he had these same guys working for him.
The idea seems to be that Super Saiyan 4 Goku can somehow use that power more effectively than the others can individually, but I have a hard time buying that.  Maybe there’s some sort of stacking effect, where Goku can get more out of the same amount of ki energy.  Hey, you know what else has a stacking effect?  Fusion.
So even if this is the best play, wouldn’t it make a lot of sense for Goten and Trunks to fuse, and then stand around Goku and give him Super Saiyan power?  At least that way, if Baby tried to stop them, Gotenks would be in a better position to run interference.
Also, why is Kibitoshin just standing around watching this?  He has healing powers, even if the Elder Kai claimed that they wouldn’t be sufficient to restore Goku’s strength.  So why doesn’t he put that to the test?  Even if he can only get Goku a quarter of the way to where he needs to be, that’s still better than nothing.
Or even if Kibitoshin knows that wouldn’t work, why didn’t he grab some senzu beans on the way here?  Or he could have brought Dende along and they could have both healed Goku in some sort of kinky three-way healing session.
I’ll admit that I’m splitting hairs here.  It’s just a cartoon, and it really doesn’t matter how they get Goku across the finish line, but it really makes me nutty how Toei seemed to go out of their way to arrange this bullshit. Like, there’s so many other options on the table, many of them involving Super Saiyan Pan and Adult GT Gotenks, but instead they went with this:
Tumblr media
STANDING AROUND.  That’s the big technique we’re going to use to beat the bad guy.  Just standing around in the open, hoping he doesn’t kill us.
Tumblr media
And Baby is actually surprisingly accommodating.  Sure, he tries to kill them before they can re-energize Goku, but he was sporting enough to stand perfectly still while they talked about it. Eventually he attacks, but Goku distracts him with a Solar Flare, and then, when Baby tries to attack again, he doubles over in pain.  What happened to him?  Well he came down with a case of...
✨Positivity Page✨
Tumblr media
Uub! Yeah, Baby thought he had defeated Uub before, when he turned Uub’s own candy beam back on him, but when he picked up the chocolate Uub and ate it, he made a fatal mistake.  Uub was counting on getting swallowed, and he figured he could do more damage to Baby from the inside.  Pretty clever!
Although, it kind of makes you wonder why he waited so long to make his move.  Uub got swallowed way back in Episode 33.  He can apparently change back into a human at will, but why didn’t he attack earlier?  If he’d done this before, when Baby was taking potshots at the Earth, he and Goku probably could have won this thing already.
Tumblr media
Then again, it doesn’t work for very long, and Baby manages to spit Uub out, so maybe it was never good for more than a momentary distraction.  Baby finally manages to attack the Saiyan contingent, and for a moment it looks like he won.  Horrified that Pan has been killed, Mr. Satan dares Baby to kill him too, but then...
Tumblr media
Goku reveals that he and Pan are fine.  Everything worked, and he’s back to full strength.  Maybe he’s stronger than he was when he first transformed, actually, since he had taken quite a beating before that.   Anyway, Baby’s back to square one.
Tumblr media
Goku declares that it’s time “we both got serious.”  Past time, if you asked me.  This whole fight has been one big boondoggle.  It’s not even that long, but it sucks so much ass that it feels like it’s taken forever.
✨The Blade Braxton Memorial Haiku*✨
No time for Gotenks?
Bite your tongue, sir. He beat
Hitler, didn’t he?

Watched Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero on a whim the other night. Things I liked:
Pan. She had so much fun whenever she was with Papa or Grandpa Piccolo! Not so much when they were both busy fighting the giant monster, but hey.
The movie focuses on Piccolo, Gohan, and Pan instead of Goku and Vegeta.
Magenta's rant about how Capsule Corp is clearly just a front for a coalition of alien invaders working to control the Earth. It's 90% recognizable conspiratorial nonsense (minus the antisemitism and unpleasant context) and 10% weird sh*t that's just canon.
Despite the Red Ribbon Army's advanced intelligence-gathering tech, they still consider Mr. Satan to be a threat on par with Goku or Vegeta.
Piccolo has a house now!
Super Sai-ants.
Gamma 1's occasional moments of genre savvy. The first thing he says is "You say you killed King Piccolo? Did you look for the body?"
The Gammas in general, really. Especially the background squabbling-siblings moments.
All the new characters have such delightful, quirky personalities. Dragon Ball is at its best when it's a comedy series spiced with action.
Piccolo doing that thing Frieza did in the Broly movie where he hurt Paragus to make Broly get a rage-induced power-up, just without actually hurting Pan.
I can't talk much about Max Cell without ruining the positive tone I'm aiming for here, but I like the way he serves as a fulcrum of conflict between Magenta and Dr. Hedo, and that his design makes Semi-Perfect Cell look intimidating. (And not just by virtue of being kaiju-sized.)
One storyboard artist really liked the idea of the Z-fighters jumping off of high things in skydiving poses before activating their flight, and the higher-ups were right to let them do it twice.
Namekian stretchy-arms and gigantification return! Piccolo even uses both at the same time! More Dragon Ball fight scenes should use weird little abilities like that; stretchy arms aren't gonna win a fight Piccolo would lose otherwise, but they make a fight scene more unique and interesting.
The animation is good, the haters just noticed that it's CG.
Pan. She's adorable.
Things I didn't like:
Enough "Ha ha, Dr. Hedo/Gotenks is fat" jokes to stand out as a Thing.
Act 3 is basically just one overstuffed fight scene.
Cell Max is fine as a plot point and setpiece, I guess, but also not interesting.
There is no way Goten and Trunks haven't been fusing for fun enough to remember how it works. If they messed up because they were rushing or because of a disruption from the active action scene or something, that would be one thing, but suggesting that they're just rusty is...kinda dumb.
Gohan's new transformation feels like that form Future Trunks got in the Goku Black arc, in that it's an unexplained power-up he randomly got that I assume is meant to justify him fighting god-tier foes, but they didn't want to give him Super Saiyan God or Blue because reasons. My feelings about Orange Piccolo are similar, but with more understanding about why they didn't give him an existing Super Saiyan form and less irritation about being an obvious retread of the Super Saiyan 2 transformation bit in the Cell arc.
Also, Gohan's new transformation's hair. On one hand, it's among the most obvious ways that said transformation is calling back to the SSJ2 transformation against Cell, which is irritating. On the other hand, it also looks absurd. It's just...scale up Gohan's preteen hairstyle by 250% and make it gray. Why gray? And why make it that big? If it had gone full SSJ3 I might have liked it, but it doesn't go far enough, and the hair stays too stiff, like it doesn't realize it's three feet long and should be pulled down by gravity.
Basically every scene on Beerus's planet, and not just because Goku and Vegeta were there. It's good to establish why they're not coming in to save the day, but they didn't need to spend so much time on it! And they definitely didn't have to use that time on a pointless fight scene and Beerus flirting with Cheelai!
Gohan getting more focus? Getting to be a character who's important to the plot? I like that! The interpretation of that idea as "Gohan needs to focus on training instead of studying all the time"? Not so much. At least it was mixed in with a dash of "You're so focused on the academic stuff that you're neglecting your family, too," which is a less frustrating point.

Dicas e truques para Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3
Tumblr media
- Gogeta e Vegeto: Goku (Fim) e Vegeta (segunda Forma).
- Gogeta SSJ4: Goku GT Super Saiyan quatro e Vegeta Super Saiyen quatro. - Gotenks: Son Goten e Kid Trunks.
