WOW Aurora underwater world. © 📷 @pxlexplorer Aurora Under the Water! We had #lightrays today!!! OH MY GOODNESS they are incredible! Stunning orange, yellow, red, even pinkish hues breaking through the dark emerald surface. I waited and waited, hoping for an #orca to come by that was snacking near the fishing boat. In the meantime I still took photos of these flickering, dancing shards of light. Then you guessed it one then two came by! The second orca came up from the depths slowly reaching the surface, his dorsal slicing through like he was opening the seas up to the heavens. It seriously was so magical and ethereal. 💙🤗 I also managed a beautiful clean shot of a humpback today so I’m extra happy! "Spekkhogger" - 🔵@maestro320 's Notes: Squeezing a post in today as Im busy packing my bags again for another trip into the twilight zone. In case you were wondering, "Spekkhogger" is the Norwegian word for Orca. This surreal footage was filmed in the Norwegian Fjords with the Team at Whales Underwater @whalesunderwater courtesy of Co-Founder, Professional Underwater Wildlife Photographer and Filmmaker, Good Mate, Jasmine Carey @pxlexplorer - Today I was so lucky to have Little Scratchii swim right up to me. Shot right past to check me out like a bullet train! so I had to slow the clip down. Boy, orcas are fast! Yes and even the little tykes 😄 The really #orcasome thing about Scratchii are the bite marks all over. I would love to know how this happened as Scratchii is definitely too adorable to be a #hooligan or a #troublemaker ...... a #JamesDean maybe but definitely a good calf. 😎 So after Scratchii zips past, a humpback comes along to feed at the bottom. I also thought you would all enjoy seeing what it feels and looks like floating around the #herringscales. It’s literally another #galaxy or like a shaken #snowglobe . Whichever you prefer it’s still a glittery chaos of spectacular beauty. Can’t wait for tomorrow 💙 • The orca behavioural states that are typically observed include travelling, resting, socialising and feeding. When cruising, orcas adopt a speed of 10 to 13 km/h, usually remaining within 20 m of the surface. When necessary, orcas are able to reach brief speed bursts of up to 45 km/h. Because diving is energetically costly, orcas usually stay less than a minute underwater. However when foraging, orcas can perform deep dives of up to 100-200 m and are able to stay underwater for nearly 15 minutes. ​Orcas are known to display aerial behaviours. These include spy-hopping (lifting the head vertically out of the water), breaching (launching the body out of the water) and tail-lobbing (slapping the water surface with the tail). Credit to @aasjord_photo Hello old friend... It's been a strange november here in Tromsø. The whales has not invaded #Kaldfjord. A family of Orcas has been on some short visits, but most of the whales are still up in #skjervøy. We saw the signs last year, and now 99% of the whales are up there. I think they will come to my fjord on their way south. But only for a short period of time. I am happy for the people up around Skjervøy because its really good business for them.
