Sonic may actually be lost royalty
Tumblr media
I keep going down these rabbit holes I shouldn’t go down BUT! Although this theory is one that I don’t fully believe in (unlike the infinite/solaris theory and the chaos emerald theory) I still have a good argument that I want to talk about very bad.
I also tried to make this as short as possible but there’s a lot of ground to cover, but at least it’s not the infinite/solaris theory. But I have a TLDR at the end.
[Spoiler Warning for Sonic and the Black Knight]
let’s start with a ✨numbered list✨
1. Blaze the Cat
Tumblr media
Blaze is the biggest caveat for this theory, but I think it’s best to start with her.
Now, firstly I need to clear up some things.
Tumblr media
[Eggman: My world...]
Tumblr media
[Eggman Nega: and my world...]
Tumblr media
[Eggmen: are in a manner, inextricably linked!]
Tumblr media
[Blaze: Like two Eggmans?]
Part of the Blaze’s world is that it’s a parallel universe. Parallel Eggmen, Parallel emeralds, Everything else that isn’t stated outright. Like how Tails and Marine are definitely counterparts. Seeming as Tails came from South Island and Marine came from southern island, Tails is definitely based on a kitsune and Marine, in theory, based on a tanuki.
And, although not stated completely, Blaze and Sonic are universal counterparts.
Tumblr media
[From Sonic Wiki: Blaze was designed as a charater who was equivalent yet and alternate version of Sonic’s character.]
Much like the Sol and Chaos emeralds, Sonic and Blaze are a mirror version of one another, although slightly different.
Alright, now that we have that out of the way:
Looking at the connections between the others, Sonic and Blaze seem, a bit too different.
The Sol and Chaos emeralds fulfill the same role, although their different appearance, and have a similar story.  Tails and Marine fulfill the same role, although their different appearance, and have a similar story. The Eggmen fulfill the same role, although their different appearance, and have a similar story.
Blaze and Sonic fulfill the same role, although their different appearance, and have a... completely different story.
Blaze was born to a royal family, and set to protect the Sol Emeralds and the Jeweled Scepter as her birthright, and it’s somewhat hinted that her powers may also be a birthright. Sonic, on the other hand, has no known past, and seems to have just run into the Chaos Emeralds by accident.
You could claim that Blaze does take on the role of both Sonic AND Knuckles, which is fair and stated on the wiki, however Knuckles is also never stated to be any kind of royalty, and certainly doesn’t have that kind of past, his past being one of the more tragically alone ones.
And here’s something interesting.
Time has warped our vision of Blaze. We all know her as “Princess Blaze the Cat.” But from watching Sonic Rush, her opening game... she is never mentioned to be a princess until the very end.
Tumblr media
[Burning Blaze: As princess, it is my duty to protect the Sol Emeralds...]
From what I remember, this is the FIRST mention of her royal status.
From this game’s viewpoint, they reveal the mirror status of the dimensions. They then show both Blaze and Sonic having mirror super transformations using their emeralds, highly implying that Sonic and Blaze were mirror versions. (also this was implied already by just Blaze’s shoes.) and then it’s revealed that Blaze is royal, and a princess.
So if she’s the mirror of Sonic, what does that mean for Sonic? Especially right after showing the two of them being, well, mirrors.
2. King Arthur
Tumblr media
SATBK is much less transparent about the counterpart universe thing.
Now this is an alternate universe, set up by Secret Rings, and surprisingly not just a story Sonic told as an elaborate excuse.
They don’t hide obivous Sonic characters being put into roles, and their in these roles for a reason.
Blaze and Silver as Percival and Galahad, the knights who quested together for the holy grail. Knuckles as Gawain literally only because of “Gawain and the Green Knight” But I respect that so much. Jet as Lamorak because of Lamorak’s fiery temper and competitiveness.  Shadow as Lancelot because he’s the “closest knight to the king” stated in game (👀) Tails as a Blacksmith because that’s p much the medieval version of a mechanic. Amy as the Lady of the Lake because like. Fuck she’s the most powerful one there. (but seriously, in forces she’s shown to be the most level headed leader and strangest, especially in Sonic’s absence. As well as “sensing” that he was still alive and having a past in tarot.) And Merlina as Merlina because... well that’s a whole other theory.
(all my theories are being brought up in the post. like i know the first two were expamples of theories I fully belive in but damn this is like a avengeners, ok,)
But Sonic as King Arthur makes sense when it’s revealed. Although he wasn’t anyone’s counterpart in Secret Rings (because secrets rings was confused as hell) He is in this game, and as the ring leader of everyone following him in SATBK, it makes sense.
Although something that was never brought up...EVER is the Knight’s backstories, which are EXTREMELY important not only in Arthurian legends, but for the knights in Sonic lore. All of the knight’s mentioned backstories are important to their character, in both contexts. Although their never brought up.
*DEEP BREATH* Alright. The similarities between Sonic Character/Knight backstories.
Shadow and Lancelot have pretty simmilar backstories when getting down to it. Shadow/Lancelot were both raised for greatness, but still outshined by Sonic/Arthur. Although remaining loyal to them, even if for Shadow it’s only in times of need. Shadow doesn’t want to admit he’s a supporting role to Sonic, although Sonic generations kinda throws that Idea out of the water when Shadow cheers Sonic on while watching from the sidelines, much like early Lancelot.
For Blaze and Percival, in multiple interpretations Percival is of noble birth. Upon meeting Sonic’s Gang/The Knights, Blaze/Percival get’s inspired by their heroics and eventually joins them.
“Lancelot and Percival prove morally superior to Gawain who follows the rules of courtliness to the letter rather than the spirit.“ Is an actual quote from Wikipedia. Although it is VERY hard to find a concrete backstory for Gawain other than “separated from his home”, I think this proves enough. As well as the Gawain and the Green Knight story (in which Gawain tries to slay the green knight and then he picks up his head and says “see you in a year” is pretty representative of Knuckles constantly breaking the master emerald in a comedic light.)
Lamorak/Jet are known for challenging Arthur/Sonic to competitions.
Galahad/Silver are searching for an object/person aided by Percival/Blaze
So now that we’re all good, do you see the similarities between part one.
Although everyone else has given backstory similarities, Sonic is given none, seeming as, as far as we know, Sonic HAS no backstory.
But isn’t it interesting that King Arthur’s backstory is being lost royalty? And the secret son of the king? Wack.
3. Sonic Fucking Underground
Tumblr media
Now, most of you are probably unfamiliar with Sonic Underground. Good.
If you’re not, you watched it as a kid and you’re nostalgic, and let me tell you I watched the entire show recently and it’s not as good as you remember.
But Sonic Underground’s quality and history could be a post on it’s own, it doesn’t matter here. What matters is the plot:
Tumblr media
[From Sonic Wiki: Sonic, Sonia, and Manic are the children of Queen Aleena, the rightful ruler of Mobius and are pursued relentlessly by Doctor Robotnik and his bumbling bounty hunters sidekicks, Sleet and Dingo. As infants, the siblings were separated and placed in hiding to fulfill a prophecy made by the Oracle of Delphius (a spoof of the Oracle of Delphi of Ancient Greece) that the triplets would grow up to find their estranged mother, overthrow Robotnik and take their places once more as Mobius' rightful rulers.]
FORGOTTEN ROYALTY YOU SAY.
Now, Sonic Underground is VERY SEPARATED from Sonic Lore, and nothing has ever taken from it besides Manic appearing in some comics, although from what I know he’s never mentioned to be Sonic’s brother. So This is the part I always take with a grain of salt, however;
4. In conclusion/TLDR
We have Two Instances of Sonic being lost Royalty (One in a separate reality and one in a separate continuity) We have Two Instances of Dimentional Counterparts of Sonic being Royalty (Blaze and King Arthur) We have zero given backstory for Sonic We have Three instances of Sonic, or a counterpart, being royalty
And from what I remember hearing, three’s a pattern.

If it's ok I want to request headcanons for Ikerev boys with a s/o who feels very uncomfortable and tense around men and even though she loves them she can't stop herself from having negative thoughts about guys. I'd like to ask it for everyone but if it's too much just Red Army +Oliver and Luka. Thanks <3
Oh my god, I am so sorry if this is something you have to deal with. I am myself very uncomfortable around men due to some unsavoury experiences.
Okay, I won't have time to write for everyone and I didn’t write for Kyle either because I am really not familiar with the dude... but I made sure to write for the other ones you especially requested <3
Tumblr media
Luka is himself very uneasy around females and rarely approaches them. So he kind of relates and would never judge you. He knows that you love him, knows this is not something you can control. And he is dead set on making sure that you won’t have any reason to be uncomfortable around the Black Army barracks.
He’d discreetly follow you around to keep an attentive eye on you and make sure you’re safe and okay.  He just wants what’s best for you and for you to be at ease around him and the army as a whole. But he understands it may take time for you to fully trust them and he is ready to keep his distance from you if you’d wish.
Oliver grew up in London and he is not naive either. He knows about the constant awareness women need to have when it comes to men and he doesn’t blame you. But he also wants you to know that you’re safe and secure with him. That Blanc and him are people you can trust. But then again he understands that this isn’t really something you can shake off and that his words aren’t worth much in the end. So he’d try to show you in action.
He’d grow even more protective and would actually bark at any man who comes a bit too close, always making sure to come with you when you go out shopping so that you’re not alone.
Lancelot doesn’t really understand at first, of course he senses something is wrong but he just doesn’t know what. But as the two of you grow closer and closer he actually realises that you are uncomfortable around the Red Army. And now that he thinks about it he can’t exactly blame you, in a place full of men you shone as one of the very few women. And Lancelot wouldn’t really come and talk to you about it, he’d most likely act in the shadows to make things easier for you.
Thus he’d hire a maid for you, another woman to be at your side so that hopefully you won’t feel as lonely or exposed. He is also very careful with his gestures and words, wanting to put you at ease around him and the others.
Okay, this took a small toll on Jonah’s pride. He is so used to women crumbling at his feet that having you acting so differently around him makes him go mad. This also made his task of hoeing you very complicated and he had his fair share of hair pulling. But when he learns about your complicated relationship with men he can only understand. He knows you don’t mean this against him in particular and is actually quite relieved for your cautions. But he wants you to know that you can count on him too and that he is someone you can trust.
Much like Oliver he is very protective and supportive. He’d make sure to let you know that in case of any problem with anyone on red territory you can come to him and he’d kick asses. He also grows more gentle around you.
Edgar is flirty, Edgar is wild, Edgar loves a good laugh and a good teasing. But somehow you never seemed quite amused by his antics. And he is very smart, knows how to read people like an open book. He notices the doubt and slight fear twinkling in your gaze when a man comes a bit too close, the uncertainty flashing on your features.
He won’t approach you directly, because that is not how he is. But he’ll try and get a few words here and there, in a very light hearted tone to let you know that you’re fine, to get you a bit more at ease around him and the army as a whole.
Zero is a bean and let’s be honest he probably sees right through you too. He wouldn’t be the kind to come talk it out with you either, rather he’d focus on silent actions to make things easier and more comfortable for you.
He’d make sure to remain a certain distance away from you, both to give you your space and to watch over you. He’d also constantly be behind Edgar to shoo him away if he got too close or made you uncomfortable.

Thin Ice
What? It’s winter and the ice isn’t as thick as you think?
Read here or on AO3!
1.6K, BBC Merlin, hurt!Gwaine
-----
"Any funny feelings?" Lancelot asked, leaning close to Merlin.
"No," Merlin answered, keeping his voice low. "But that doesn't mean much  . It doesn't really help me with things like this unless I do an actual check."
'This' being a river the knights were deciding whether or not to cross. They were on a winter hunt, but it was more like a winter camping trip to take advantage of blue skies. While the  river   was narrow, it ran deep in this part of the woods. The winter had been cold and long, so it was possible the ice was thick enough to hold them as they led the horses across. That said, it was hard to know for sure.
Merlin watched the knights go back and forth. Arthur and Leon both thought it best to cross further south where the water got shallower, even if they wouldn't reach the standard ford point till dusk. Gwaine and Elyan wanted to cross – eager to get to one of their frequent campsites before dark. A deep cave, it'd warm up nicely with a fire and the body heat of all the men and horses.
"We've had a month of freezing weather," Gwaine waved his hand at the ice. "It's bound to be solid."
Elyan, kneeling on the bank, knocked on the ice. "Solid," he confirmed.
"Merlin, mate," Gwaine called out. "Back us up here!"
Merlin shrugged. He didn't care whether they crossed or not, but Gwaine's sudden attention meant he had to pull back on his magical check of the ice's thickness. No matter, he'd hide behind Lance in a moment.
 "Lance?" Gwaine wheedled.
"I say play it safe and head south."
"Thank you, Lancelot," Arthur said. "Great, that's the tiebreaker. Unless Merlin or Percival speaks up?"
"I think we should cross," Percival said.
Arthur gave Leon a long-suffering look, who also looked just as exasperated.
"Look at the sky," Percival continued. "Those clouds are moving fast, I bet they have more snow."
On cue, the knights plus Merlin looked up. Merlin brought his hand up as if to shield his gaze from the sun, but it was really to hide the flash of magic as he read the clouds. The knight was right, they were snow-laden clouds. Even if they just brought snow and not a storm, it would be best if they camped somewhere sheltered. The closest option was the one Elyan and Gwaine were aiming for anyway – across the  water and then onward for less than a league.
They would have to risk the ice.
Well, not risk it. If Lance covered for him, Merlin could thicken the ice with a bit of magic to support a mounted rider. It would take time, he'd have to do it from underneath the ice sheet and hide any evidence of thickening ice onshore or the river itself. If the knights would hold off and not look at him for five minutes…
Merlin tried to catch Lance's eye, but the man was watching Gwaine.
"Great! Now that Percy has settled things," Gwaine clapped his gloved hands. "Crossing it is."
Gwaine   didn't bother testing the ice. He walked right onto it. The party watched him with bated breath, but he made it to the middle of the river with no problem.
"See? Like I said," Elyan waved a hand toward a grinning Gwaine. "Solid."
There was a sharp      crack.     Attention snapped to Gwaine, who was looking at his feet in horror. "Good thing I didn't bring the horse," he said before the ice split beneath him.
"Gwaine!" Percival yelled, already taking a step out on the ice.
"Don't!" Merlin shouted, rushing to the ice's edge. "If it can't support Gwaine, it won't support you."
"He'll be swept downstream," Leon said, but Merlin ignored the knights to zero in on Lance. Merlin could save Gwaine, no problem, but he couldn't use his magic openly. He needed help. Lance gave him a grim nod.
Merlin pulled off his rucksack and shoved it at Percival. "I'm the lightest and know how to swim."
Arthur sputtered, "When did you learn to swim?"
Merlin ignored the king, already sprinting toward the hole in the ice. With his back to the knights, they couldn't see his eyes flash as he muttered spells under his breath to create a pocket of warm air around his head. He  vaguely   heard the knights shout something after Lance,  and then Merlin was in the water.
The cold almost knocked him out. It passed through his skin and into his bones, the shock making him draw an instinctive breath. If he hadn't cast a spell for breathing air, he'd be choking on water. Gods, no way Gwaine would survive the cold for long.
Merlin righted himself within the current and let it pull him downstream. While fast, it was still manageable. The biggest risk was the cold. Well, that and the ice above. It looked thick, barely letting sunlight penetrate the water. Gwaine had found a rare thin spot. The only way Merlin could see in the dark water was his magic. Gwaine would be cold, blind, and almost out of air by now.
He pushed himself forward, searching the murky waters for his friend. Merlin found him around a bend, half-conscious and trying to grab at the underside of the ice as the current pulled him along. Merlin swam up and rammed into his Gwaine, wrapping his arms tightly around the knight's waist. The knight didn't notice, eyes half-lidded and bubbles trailing from his mouth.
Merlin pulled himself up Gwaine's body, expanding his air spell to share it. Gwaine didn't notice, mouth stubbornly shut, but the sudden appearance of Merlin's face woke him slightly. He snaked a hand up to shake Merlin's shoulder, a      why     easily read in his eyes. Merlin tilted his head and smiled.      Friendship.
Gwaine scowled and opened his mouth to scold him, then panicked because that meant water could enter his lungs. He snapped his mouth shut immediately, but there was no hiding the fact that he hadn't swallowed water.
 "What."
Merlin kept his mouth shut. Maybe Gwaine would think this was all a hallucination from a near-drowning.
 "Merlin. Merlin, are we breathing?"
 Or not.
 "Yes."
 "How?"
 "Later, Gwaine. I'm rescuing you."
While Gwaine flapped his mouth, Merlin focused his attention up. The current had continued to move them under the ice, so at least they knew which way was up. Merlin could break through it, but they'd need help getting out. They needed…
There was a shadow on the ice up ahead   and Merlin knew exactly who it belonged to. Not bothering to hide, he pressed a hand to the ice and pushed his magic into it. Even while he thickened the ice, he opened up a hole in it toward the river's bank. The shadow skidded to a stop beside the hole and a hand shot into the water.
"Ready?" Merlin asked, not actually caring for the answer. An instinctual burst of magic steered them toward the hand, which Merlin and Gwaine both grasped.
Muffled through the water, Merlin heard Lance yell "I got them!" before the knight pulled and brought Merlin and Gwaine's head above water. Merlin spell dissolved and they were slammed against the icy edges of the hole as the current tried to sweep them away. Lance struggled to keep a grip on the waterlogged men, both barely able to keep their heads above water. Gwaine was coughing  , his lips blue.
Lance thrust his other hand in the water under Gwaine's shoulder in an effort to pull him out. He succeeded in lifting Gwaine an inch further out of the water, but couldn't get the leverage he needed to pull Gwaine on the ice.
"Where're the others?" Merlin gasped. "Can I-"
"Hold on!" In a flash, Percival and Arthur were on either side of Lancelot. Both reached into the water, Percival for Gwaine and Arthur for Merlin. Coordinating a heave, the three dry knights were able to pull Gwaine and Merlin from the water.
Gwaine crawled an inch away to cough up water and then take great lungfuls of air. Merlin flopped onto his back and stared at the much closer snow clouds, shivers wracking his body.
"You idiot," Arthur said, tone worried. "Both of you."
Gwaine and Merlin didn't both answering, too busy letting the adrenaline fall away.
After a moment, Arthur helped Merlin to his feet while Percival helped Gwaine. Lancelot shook his wet hand, scanning the surroundings.
"Gotta-gotta go to the cave shelter now, Princessssss," Gwaine said around chattering teeth. No other campsite would hold a fire once the snow hit, and Merlin and Gwaine desperately needed to get warm. Merlin's soaking clothes were leeching the small bit of warmth his skin had   and he could feel his hair start to freeze.
"The ice is thick enough here," Percival pointed out. "It's supporting all five of us."
Arthur scowled, but nodded. "You four, start walking. I'll go back and let Elyan and Leon know. They're not far upstream and once we get the horses over one-by-one we can move faster and catch up."
Oh! A horse! Merlin could lean against one right now, they gave off a ridiculous amount of heat. He nodded, on board with this plan but too tired to verbalize it. Arthur shot him a worried look before heading toward the river bank.
Lancelot wrapped an arm around Merlin's waist and helped him cross. Merlin couldn't stop shivering and his thoughts were slow. Still, there was something he should tell Lance. Maybe he'll remember tomorrow. He'd rescued Gwaine, five feet ahead practically carried by Percival, and that's what mattered right now. He could deal with everything else when he was warmer.

Hi! I've been following your Barabarian King story on AO3, and I was wondering if you could give a non-DnD person a primer on the different classes all the characters are? (Also! I noticed on your blog description that you're ace, so hello from a fellow ace!)
Hello fellow ace! I am absolutely down to explain the classes. This is going to be kind of long though, so most of the information is going under the cut. Also none of this is necessary to read Barbarian King, but it is fun.
There are thirteen classes in D&D, and they are generally divided between martial classes (the classes that hit stuff with weapons), and magic caster classes. In Martial Class we have: Fighters, Barbarians, Monks, Paladins, Rangers, and Rogues. In Caster Class we have: Clerics, Druids, Sorcerers, Wizards, Warlocks, Bards, and Artificers. Each of these classes also have various sub-classes that give you different abilities at higher levels, but I will only break down the character specific sub-classes. I also will break each of these general classes down, starting with the characters. Also keep in mind that characters can do something called multi-class, meaning someone can be a fighter and a sorcerer, or a druid and a warlock.
Barbarian
This is what Arthur is. Barbarians' whole thing is hitting really hard, and taking less damage. When a barbarian uses a special skill called Rage (what Arthur is using in chapter one and the most recent chapter), it fills them with uncontrollable anger and that anger acts as a sort of shield. It means that when they take damage from a weapon, they take half the amount a different class would.
Subclass: Spirit Totem, Bear. Arthur channels the spirit of a bear while he is in rage. This specific sub-class allows him to take half as much damage on all types of damage except for psychic while raging. Meaning that even if someone used a spell that would normally set him on fire for ten damage, he only takes five.
Sorcerer
This is one of the classes Merlin is. He is multi-classing into warlock which I will get into later. Sorcerers have innate magical abilities whereas other magic classes either get their powers from a magical being, or from learning it. Sorcerers can get theirs by birth, a weird arcane occurrence, or any other number of things. They can use things called sorcery points to manipulate the spells they cast which is something no other caster class can do.
Sub-Class: Shadow. Merlin is a shadow sorcerer. This means his magic has special connection to shadows. It allows him to do things like teleport between shadows, summon essentially a hell hound, and if his health drops to zero he can pop back up with one health.
Warlock
This is the other class that Merlin is. Warlocks get their magic from patrons (magical beings). They don’t get to cast as many spells as other classes, but they do get to cast spells with max damage a certain number of times.
Sub-class: Celestial. Warlocks with celestial patrons get healing spells and some other stuff, but I only gave Merlin one level of it so that he could cast healing magic like he does in canon. Sorcerers do not get healing spells, and other warlock sub-classes don’t either.
Wizard
This is Morgana. Wizard’s get their magic by studying super hard. They have spell books and can copy new spells they find into their spell books. Most caster classes either have the spells they have, or have access to all the spells available to their class. Wizards can pick up spells they find while adventuring and gain access to them by copying them into a spell book.
Sub-Class: Divination. I chose this one because of Morgana’s prophetic visions. How this works in game is that the wizard rolls two rolls at the beginning of the day, and can replace other rolls with the rolls they came up with earlier. So if someone rolls an 8 and it fails, a divination wizard who rolled a 16 can “see the future” and choose to replace the 8 with the 16.
Artificer
This is Gwen. Artificerers are essentially magical blacksmiths. They can infuse the items they create with magic.
Sub-Class: Armorer. I chose this for Gwen because of her history in canon of working at her father’s forge. She has experience with weapons. I gave her skills to enhance armor, weapons, and crossbows. That’s why the knights all bring her their armor for repair.
Fighter
What it says in the title. They use swords, and can hit with almost every weapon. They also have a limited ability to heal themselves to keep fighting. Very good at combat. A lot of the knights are multi-classed with this.
Subclass: Champion. This is our boy Lancelot. It lets him do more damage on high rolls, and take hits that were meant for other people.
Subclass: Battle Master. This is one of the classes Elyan is. This sub-class allows him to learn specific fighting tactics. In this case he has learned to disarm people, and maneuver people so his fellow knights can hit.
Rogue
Rogues are sneaky. That’s their whole thing. They do more damage when they sneak up on people, or have friends nearby distracting the person they are attacking. They can also runaway or hide after attacking without getting attacked in return.
Subclass: Scout. This is the other class Elyan is. It lets him move away from enemies coming at him without anyone getting an attack on him. It also gives him extra help when he is using skills that involve surviving in the wilderness, or when getting information about the natural world.
Subclass: Swashbuckler. This is our boy Gwaine. He isn’t so much super sneaky, as so self confident and rakish that it becomes distracting. His showiness can even direct attacks from his friends to himself (think the scene where he punches a guy in the ace when we first meet him).
Monk
Think kung-fu movie. Monks are fast, and they don’t hit hard but they hit a lot. They can spend things called ki points to hit more, and to enact special effects like temporarily stunning their opponent. Ki points can be used for other abilities based on the sub-class.
Sub-class: Drunken Way. Also our boy Gwaine. This was mostly a joke about how much he likes to drink, but it does let him pop back up much faster than other classes if he gets knocked down, and redirect attack. Both of these are things we see him do in the intro scene in canon.
Ranger
They are hunters with connections to the land. They tend to favor bow and arrows over swords. They are good at tracking, camping, and all things woods. Primarily they are martial classes, but they do gain some spell casting ability at later levels. Their spells either have to do with nature, or the skills involved in hunting.
Subclass: hunter. This is what I made Percival. This makes him extra good at tracking prey, and killing it. Also gives him extra protection against creatures attacking him.
Paladin
Magical Fighter. Paladins get their martial prowess from training, but they get their limited casting abilities from their connection to a god. Most of their spells involve doing more damage with their hits.
Sub-Class: Oath of Crown. This one just sounded the most bootlicker so that’s why I picked it for Leon. He can force people to fight him, and heal people around him.
For the classes no one in the fic is.
Cleric
Get their magic from a god much like paladins, but they are a full casting class. They tend to focus a lot on healing, but can also do some damn good damage. This is one of the classes that have access to all the spells available for the class, and switch out which ones they use each day.
Bard
Jaskier from the Witcher if he could use his performance to cast spells. They do a lot of damage, but also having access to minor healing spells unlike sorcerers or warlocks who have a similar casting style.
Druids
Get their arcane ability from nature. Can turn into any animal they have seen before. Most of their spells have a nature-y component to them if they are doing damage.
So there you go! Layman’s D&D. Keep in mind that I have only been playing for a little while so my descriptions may not be the best, but I hope this helped! And I hope you are enjoying Barbarian King.

Ch. 3
Characters: Colette Marston and Red Army
Tagging: @plumpblueberry @thetwinkims
A/N: It’s been a good while since I wrote Colette but here she is!
Tumblr media
A gentle pat against curly blonde locks startled the young girl. Her head swiveled up; clear blue eyes glazed over with water threatening to turn into more tears. The throbbing of her heart caused her chest to ache. Why didn’t he look angry? Edgar was a master of hiding his emotions, but the death of the King of Hearts by her own hand should be called nothing short of treason.
“I can see why you’re distraught. That was quite a vision to have.”
That’s it? He’d seen what she had. Where were the handcuffs? Wouldn’t he escort her to the cells? Her head spun, unable to tear her blurry gaze away from the Jack. “But I…”
“You should be well aware that King Lancelot won’t be foiled so easily, but the protocol of your visions is to have you tip them in our favor. You’ll work on it and report back to me, alright?” He’d inform his two superiors in private. The last thing the child needed was an explosion from Jonah.
Edgar relayed the vision to Zero without one important detail. Everything remained the same. Central quarter in absolute ruin. Destruction beyond comprehension, likely the end of Cradle altogether. And finally, a hooded figure before a wounded Lancelot, about to deal the final blow. Not a mention of Colette at all.
He hadn’t seen her as the villain of their tragic future?
Colette could hardly eat the breakfast that was served and decided to dump it in the trash. She couldn’t imagine what would possess her to harm Lancelot. He’d been incredibly kind to her since she’d arrived, and unlike most adults, he also had innate magical abilities.
“Don’t let Jonah catch you or he’ll give you a lecture.”
The sudden comment startled the girl and the plate slipped from her fingers, shattering into various pieces on the floor. The racket brought out the kitchen staff.
“Ouh-” Kyle pressed his palms against his ears, shaking his head gently. His hungover state did not appreciate the loud noise. Golden eyes darted over her features, concern showing in the crease between his brows. “You look pale. How are you feeling?”
Using magic drained her energy, like all magic users, and yet it wasn’t near as severe as with Lancelot. Perhaps it was her age. Not much information was available about natural magic users since they were a rare breed. Kyle had to compile his own research and continually build it with first hand knowledge. This instance, whether magic or not, something wasn’t right.
He bent down to place the back of his hand against her forehead. “Fever.”
Colette leaned into his touch, reaching out to grab his other hand and place it against her cheek. “Your hands are cold. It feels really good.” She swayed slightly, threatening to fall over at any moment. Her whole body felt heavy.
“Yeah, you’re coming with me. I’m officially committing you to the infirmary until this fever breaks.” The doctor rarely gave any orders, but this one he’d follow through with. Not that he truly needed to. The eight year old would obey any task or request given by an officer because Lancelot had told her to.
Shuffling the child to the infirmary, Kyle carefully observed her climb onto the empty bed near the window. It allowed her to see outside even when she felt ill. She wobbled, looking fainter than before. “This new vision. Did it keep you from sleeping?”
“Yes and—” The hesitation in her voice evident.
Kyle pulled up a stool, pouring a spoonful of medicine to aid in reducing the fever and allowing her to sleep. “You know you can tell me anything and it stays between us.”
Colette’s features soured as she dutifully swallowed the liquid. “Zero had to stop me from almost falling down the stairs to the storage building. I don’t… know how I got there.” If he hadn’t grabbed her, she might have been injured or worse. Those thoughts scared her terribly.
“Hmm. That is worrisome. You’ve never slept walk with a vision before.”
“What if it happens again? What if-” She nearly choked on her own words, visibily working herself up over the endless possibilities of what could go wrong. If the abilities she possessed allowed her to move without her own consent, it would be reasonable to believe that she could also wield attack spells and harm someone.
The doctor took her trembling hands and brushed his thumbs across the back soothingly. Having a meltdown would not aid in her recovery. “Easy, kiddo. Take a deep breath.” Kyle mimicked doing so as she did. “You don’t have to worry about that right now. I’ll be here the whole time you’re asleep, alright?”
He helped her settle beneath sheet, staying by her side until her breathing evened out. Although she silently struggled, the medicine worked her into a deep sleep. Kyle moved to his desk, taking notes of all the effects of her magic. The file thick with his scribbled pages of mostly questions and a few observations. Truly, magic in humans was a vast field of unknowns.
A few soldiers came and went, receiving treatments for minor injuries. The sun had slid completely beyond the horizon, giving the moon it’s time to light the sky in a silver glow surrounded by twinkling stars. The girl still wishing to rest hid beneath the sheet, squeezing her eyes shut at the conversation beyond the cracked door.
“That’s an order, Kyle. I must speak with her straight away.” Jonah’s harsh tone laced with urgency. It came as no surprise. He always reacted in such a way whenever it came to the King of Hearts.
The Seven sighed but continued to block the doorway, his back shielding anymore light from spilling into the darkened infirmary. “You’re only going to scare her. This is why Edgar was left in charge of this particular vision. You overreact.”
“Overreact? How is one to react with the news that there is an imminent attack on King Lancelot?”
“Calmly.”
“I am calm!” Jonah snapped, not willing to back down on this subject.
Without the knowledge of how she managed to show Edgar the vision and not reveal herself in it, Colette shivered. Jonah would surely lock her away for her participation, regardless of the reason behind it. She couldn’t live with the harsh judgement that would reside behind those amber eyes that used to be soft and kind when directed at her.
No, facing Jonah was simply too much.
Silently moving to the end of the bed, the girl unlocked the window and shoved the pane upward to escape. The task much harder than anticipated. Her knee dug into the sill, sending a wave of pain up her leg. Colette tumbled forward, rolling unceremoniously across the shrub beneath before smacking into the freshly watered soil of the flowerbed. “Ouch.”
A shadow fell over her. Matching clear blue eyes met as the young Two of Hearts turned her gaze upwards. Being caught by a patrol guard might have been less embarrassing. Her dress sullied with stains of green and brown, blonde curls stuck with twigs and leaves. Not the least bit presentable to be found by their prestigious leader.
“What is the meaning of this, Colette?”

Custom Toonami Block Week 79 Rundown
Code Geass: Lelouch is establishing the official United States of Fuck Imperialism which is like the UN but actually does stuff, plus he has to deal with the fact that CC’s lost her memory and is acting like a demure slave girl harem choice from a VN. Charles is still trapped in the Human Instrumentality Shadow Realm so everyone figures this is a great time to unify everyone against Britannia. Kallen beats the shit out of Suzaku for being a dick to her all this time and the Knight of Ten is making his rounds because they realize they forgot to give him any buildup and he’s going to be a miniboss later so they have to cram all his being a dick personality into like five minutes while all the Knights of the Round assemble to prepare for an attack on Japan once the National Federation is formed. Llyod and Cecile for some reason enhanced the Guren for Suzaku even though he’s clearly more used to the Lancelot but apparently they enhanced it too much and made it a death machine like the Talgeese in Gundam Wing so Suzaku has to stick with the Lancelot. Looks like the Guren will have to sit and collect dust unless a certain pilot is rescued and then immediately has a convenient upgrade. Amazingly all the countries go along with everything Zero says and give up their militaries and have the Black Knights be the official military of the Federation. I don’t know how that works given that the Black Knights have been struggling to fight off one nation’s military idk how it’s supposed to substitute for a dozen nations’ military but I guess they conscript support and troops from the other nations or something. Charles comes back on the tv after the Federation is formed and is all “Awww what a cute little UN you have, fuck off bro.” which you’d think this’d be the perfect time for him to just out Lelouch as Zero and wreck the Black Knights’ morale but he doesn’t for some reason and they’re just gonna fight. Lelouch is freaking out and knows that having everyone want to murder the Britannian royal family includes Nunally so he calls Suzaku who just straight up goes “Bro cut the crap are you Zero or not?” and after so much plotting and scheming Lelouch just comes right out with it. Suzaki agrees to protect Nunally as long as Lelouch meets him alone at the Kururugi Shrine where this all began.
Inuyasha: This is another one of those Modern Day filler episodes which are always fun. There’s just something about Inuyasha running around in modern Japan being Spider-Man and saving people and catching bank robbers on the way to deliver Kagome’s lunch that’s so thoroughly entertaining. Basically Inuyasha spends this whole episode jittery that everyone’s so chill and ready to relax after Naraku just got away and is probably an inch from death but after a big adventure in the modern era where Kagome is as usual unprepared for her test, he ends up passing out on the bed after insisting a little battle with Naraku wouldn’t exhaust him. It’s a really cute little episode to let everyone bide some time and reflect on the past arc now that we’re starting a new wave of filler before we get to the Band of Seven and Mt. Hakurei stuff.
Yu Yu Hakusho: The first match of the tournament is about to begin and Botan, Shizuru, and Keiko come in with Koenma who is sick of baby jokes and puts on his bishonen disguise to impress everyone. There’s some neat lore about how they gave Koenma the guest team every year to bribe him into not shutting down the tournament without giving him anything of value and how the bloody show of the Dark Tournament pacifies the demons so they kill fewer humans, so that’s cool. Since Yusuke is still passed out, Kuwabara is de facto Captain and decides on simple one on one matches while the other team Captain just kinda roasts an eight of the crowd to see if it’ll wake Yusuke up. Kuwabara’s in the first match versus Prototype Killua, complete with afterimages and yo-yo tricks. They size each other up for a while and Kuwabara shrugs off getting his fucking neck broken surprisingly well while they go back and forth with “Well I can track YOU better” for a while. Togashi really loves his yo-yos of death so those have Kuwabara on the ropes and turn him into a fucking kite ready to slam back down into the arena, so yeah, Kuwabara’s having a rough time of it.
Fate Zero: Waver’s been having strange dreams about Iskandar, and not the ones people usually have about him. So he goes to get a basic history lesson on the historical figure that’s been chilling on his couch for a few weeks and spending all his money on xbox live arcade. They also go through all the ridiculously obvious historical inaccuracies and Iskandar’s just like “idk bro, I’m here so the book must be wrong” which is hilarious because Fate also does this with more modern historical figures that we have pictures of and shit so they basically sit there saying all historians have no idea what they’re talking about and gaslighting the field of history as a whole. On the way back Waver’s upset that Iskandar’s so awesome that it basically takes any effort on his part to win and it won’t be an actual achievement despite the fact that they’ve taken out like… one servant, MAYBE, and most of the other historical figures are equally over the top. But still Iskandar says that if your aspirations are big enough it doesn’t matter how big or small you are, everyone’s tiny in the grand scheme of things and clawing at greatness you can’t truly perceive is what matters. Also Caster and his boy have found the wreck they made of their workshop of dead bodies and are kinda fucked up about it but also ready to fuck up more people because God sucks or some shit. So Caster summons a Bloodborne monster which you think more people would notice and mention during Shirou’s time, like nobody in UBW ever said “Hey remember like seven years ago when a giant Bloodborne monster appeared in the river?” so I’m guessing there’s some kind of perception blocking going on. But yeah everyone’s gonna jump on the Bloodborne Monster next time for the season premiere.
Konosuba: So we pick up where we left off and Kazuma is working off his debt by… killing more toads. Wow this world really is like a video game, we get the same five enemies over and over again. However they’re fucked without Darkness throwing herself into monster orifices looking for a good time so Yunyun has to save them. We already met Yunyun in the OVA so it’s kinda weird to be re-introduced to her here in basically the same way but their relationship is basically like Gai and Kakashi if they only did the lame dorky challenges Kakashi suggested when he’s too lazy to think of a good one. Also there’s a cat now, I don’t think that really comes to anything, just a scene of Megumin going “we have a cat now” and everyone’s like “kay”. Kazuma and Megumin play Naked Chicken to see who can get more naked before the other backs down and end up taking a bath together because they’re both stubborn assholes. Also we get a quick snippet of Yunyun and Megumin’s backstories which you can basically make Yunyun’s the swing scene from Naruto (idk why Yunyun is bring out the Naruto references in me today) and Megumin is stealing bread like Les Miserables in increasingly bizarre and disgusting ways because she’s ridiculously poor or some shit.
Sailor Moon Crystal: So turns out that Usagi and Mamoru BOTH had their shots with the ‘fucks everything up’ sword with a pocketwatch and… the discarded gems of the four knights? Idk how that works given they were humans and also dead but what baffles me more is that both Usagi and Mamoru very obviously did not get hit by the sword but decided to fall down dead and not move for a couple minutes despite their shots very much being blocked and there being no blood. Anyway Queen Metalia has the crystal, bullshit is happening, 1000 years of darkness, you’ve seen Xiaolin Showdown, you know the drill. The remaining four Guardians get a cute little flashback of Usagi saying what she likes about them and then they give up their lives to revive her inside the dark energy blob of Queen Metalia and crystals and lights and shit happens and swords and wands are pulled out of nowhere and you know how a final boss goes, they beat it with the power of believing in themselves and shit like that. Also apparently the only difference between sealing Metalia away and killing her is hitting the giant bullseye on her forehead so yeah, hopefully she’s down for good this time. I don’t want to complain because this show was genre-defining but it’s hard to find things to say about something so generic and milktoast, it’s the Seinfeld problem where there’s been so many more interesting iterations that it’s just kinda “get on with it already” at this point. The only real markedly noticeable thing about it is how plainly and unashamedly it is about being a power fantasy for teen girls, and there’s something to that, harmless power fantasies can be fun but it just feels like the physical mechanics of this kind of progression being “She feels this shit REALLY HARD” is less exciting than some of the alternatives
Durarara!!: It’s the big Masaomi backstory episode and we get the whole deal of how he formed the Yellow Scarves and got into a relationship with Saki because Izaya wanted to orechestrate a gang war because that’s what Izaya does all day is orchestrate gang wars. It’s kind of amazing how many kids in this show are like “I don’t know how it happened but one thing led to another and suddenly I was at the head of one of the largest gangs in the city” like they kinda really yadda yadda over how that actually happens. But anyway Saki gets hurt in the gang war and Kadota’s gang has to save her because Masaomi’s adrenaline wears off at the last second and he can’t try and rush in and save her. I mean Dota’s van got there first anyway so how much he’d have been able to help would be doubtful but he feels bad about not even being able to try and Izaya says that fear and failure of his past will dominate his future actions which is exactly what he’s doing by letting his paranoia and frustration lead him to a war on the Saika army. Dota-chin tells him to face up to it and stop running or live with the shame of lying to Saki but Masomi can’t do that and his shame and determination to reverse the situation leads everyone into chaos as Anri discovers his secret.

Is it just me, or is fandom hate of Galahad and Lancelot just comes off as... kind of one sided? Like obviously both of them have done some questionable/awful things, but lancelot is a r*pe victim/someone who's constantly exploited for his guilt and galahad is a literal child martyr.
I’m going to put everything under the cut, so you’ve been warned before anyone decided to set fire to my inbox
Lancelot is because of a double standard mindset from the fandom, where they enjoy seeing Mash shitting on him for being a horrible dad, and him the biggest asshole killing cinnamon roll/adorable imouto/waifu Gareth who adores and admires him very much. And also doesn’t help with the writers constantly flanderizing Lancelot’s NTR love than his actual good personality where he’s constantly in guilt for killing his fellow knights, betraying his King and best friend
Gareth’s case apparently is complete idiocy as for me, both side are at fault and a very tragic story. She is loyal to both Artoria and Lancelot that becomes the biggest downfall for her. Lancelot already went mad upon hearing Guinevere’s execution and crushed Gareth, unarmed and unarmored, due to being blind to said madness. I think Camelot Zero or along the lines in Summer he already remembers what he did to her in their historical lore and feels extreme guilt especially as he treats like his own daughter
And of course everyone is double standard on Lancelot’s case of being a rape victim by Elaine that ended up giving birth to his son, Galahad. While it’s also partly inexcusable for cheating behind his king and best friend to sleep with said wife, it’s also not a reason he got tricked and/or drugged to sleep with someone with he doesn’t love, and also ended up bearing responsibility of the said child
I’ve typed this in an ask before, but let’s put him in a genderbend woman version. If Female!Lancelot gets verbally abuse by said daughter/son of how much a terrible mother she is, drugged to sleep with someone she doesn’t love and bore said son due to a certain prophecy, will SJW kick in to say she deserve it or protect her because Lancelot is now genderbend as a woman?
Galahad is debatable because I still haven’t found his original lore history. Some fans mention how even the original Galahad was an exceptional jerk and asshole that no one in the Knight of the Round Table likes him, and Gawain hates him very much in particular. And also, he’s also known to be Pure Sue due to how he’s supposedly to be a knight with no flaws and evil in order to bring said grail back to God
And... Current Main Story line, it’s not making him likable too. He only appears:
To give mash his power and complete Fuyuki Singularity without any reason as to why. Which at first presumably is because it was their job.
Appears second time to upgrade Mash’s power and then appear to give the most useless information and abuse how his father is a deadbeat asshole
Proceeds to withdraw the powers he give to Mash, and when revealed why. He said it’s because all of it was Gudas’ fault for killing Goetia and starting Lostbelt. Which... Err, I’m sorry but WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK? How are WE supposed to know killing Goetia was a huge mistake? Hell it’s been repeated as key point that 2018 onwards future is in complete unknown state, NO ONE and NOT EVEN SHEBA sees what happen far from there, that leads to Alien God descendant
Then also proceeds to tell Gudas to take responsibility of their job because he DIDN’T FUCKING COMMUNICATE except to be the most useless and self-centered flawless asshole who thinks everything is people’s problem except himself
Also knowing he could do something to protect Mash from further experiments and asshole Beryl, BUT NOPE, choose to stay behind mope in the shadows to complain about everything
At this point considering how’s he still resisting to obey Gudas, I might as well assume unless he has a good reason, he’s just practically Chaldea’s enemy and siding with Alien God to kill them
So majority of the fandom would like to queue up to beat the shit out of his purity and wake the fuck up in actually communicating instead of assuming everyone in his head. And also stop shitting on your father just because you’re also happen to be an insecure dickhead that everyone prefers your father over you.

Could I request a story where Jonah is jealous of how close Alice gets to Lancelot to the point where it's affecting his work? And Lance notices and tries to find out what's going on with his Queen?
Thank you so much for being my request!! I hope you enjoy this little story! To be completely honest... I first wrote something completely different which was also kinda nice so I’ll pos it soon! But it wasn’t this prompt hahah at all. Here’s my second attempt, please enjoy! (With a read more!)
“May I have this dance?”
Lancelot’s gloved hand was the very essence of elegance. Dressed in that crisp red suit, the color of swooning hearts and cupid’s arrows, golden hair and golden crown and golden smile - it was no wonder all eyes were on him. Even Jonah couldn’t help but admire his natural grace, a true Prince Charming.
Alice blushed ever so slightly and smiled, placed her dainty hand in his and he pulled her to the center of the ballroom, swaying and twirling already in time with the music. The string ensemble with their lively waltz seemed to bring the very moon to life - it peeked through the windows with curiosity, as if yearning to join the ball.
The first dance, of course, was reserved for Jonah. As her beau and her escort, they spent most of the night together, a true prince and princess in their matching color outfits. When they tired, he brought her wine and she fed him macaroons and they giggled like schoolchildren in the quiet of the balcony, having snuck away from the party for the relief of a moment to themselves.
The second dance was Edgar’s. He’d bowed low before her and extended his hand, a perfect gentleman. She’d looked at Jonah but he didn’t mind, at least not openly, and she’d taken his hand and lost herself, for the moment, in the beauty of the dance.
The third dance, a little clumsy, she spent with Zero. His smile put her at ease and they laughed when she accidentally stepped on his foot, no hard feelings. And so she danced, with each of the Red Army Officers, one by one.
Alice, their very special guest.
The dancing didn’t bother Jonah. They were all perfect gentlemen, and loved Alice like family. But as he watched her and Lancelot together, her skirt billowing around her legs with every carefully placed step-
“Aren’t they beautiful?”
“They’re like a prince and princess!”
“Ah, how romantic!”
“I wish that were me…”
“Do you think they’ll get married?”
The idle whispers and love-struck sighs of the people around him, for some reason, set a pit in his stomach. They stung. It was physical, somehow, like an itch deep inside of him that he could not reach. And yet, it was not ill will he felt towards them, no, but rather- an unsettling sort of acceptance. Like snow in October, out of place and a promise of dread. He couldn’t even find it in himself to bark at the whispers, to clear things up, to tell them that Alice was his and no one else’s. He could do nothing but stare.
Jonah looked at them, beaming smiles and dainty touches. Two of the most beautiful people in the world, in his eyes. The whispers all around him were right - Lancelot and Alice were a perfect, beautiful match. And standing aside now, Jonah couldn’t help but wonder about the world without him. Would it be as beautiful as the one before him? His silver replaced by gold. He wouldn’t blame her. Not at all.
She came back to him out of breath and full of smiles. “That’s the last one, right? I don’t think I could keep up with another dance! Let’s get something to eat and drink, I’m parched!”
Jonah returned her smile and took her hand, laughing at how her gaze immediately returned to the buffet at the end of the hall. He buried his thoughts deep inside of him and prayed they would suffocate, and they spent the rest of the night together.
~*~
“You wanted to speak to me?”
Jonah stepped into Lancelot’s office. He knew the room well, but never before had he shown such reluctance to enter. Even when he had just stepped into his role as Queen, he’d been nervous, yes, but still wore his pride and awe like his heart on his sleeve.
“I did.”
Lancelot eyed him evenly, unreadable. Jonah always wished he could be as level-headed as his king, as the Clemence heir he was raised to be, but he knew all too well how his emotions showed on his face. How his temper got the better of him, how he could never really fake a genuine smile.
“It’s about the quality of your recent work. I was skimming through some of the reports and noticed…”
Jonah knew from the beginning what he was going to say. Always meticulous, he made sure his work reflected the deep pride of his position. Every detail accounted for, every t crossed and i dotted in perfect handwriting.
It was just about two weeks since the night of the ball, and Jonah had thrown himself into his work. Anything, to get his mind off of those thoughts that seeped like poison through his blood. The ones that nagged him with every breath that he just wasn’t good enough.
He trained until he was sore and black and blue. His nights were made up of laboring over papers and reports until his eyelids grew heavy and he couldn’t stop himself from falling asleep on his desk. His reports were often smudged, written in a shaky hand, and sometimes - full of mistakes. Still, he submitted them, accepting their imperfections as the price of mindlessly throwing himself into his work. The bags beneath his eyes were enough to make his Heart Defenders fuss in hushed whispers.
Alice had noticed too, of course, but he pushed her away, saying that he had a busy spell and had to focus on work for a bit. She’d bitten her lip in worry but didn’t prod him any further, opting to enjoy, instead, the little time they did have together. He hated himself for putting such an expression on her face, but- Jonah couldn’t, just couldn’t deal with this right now. He had to sort out his feelings before bringing her into this mess
“Jonah, what’s going on? This isn’t like you.” Lancelot said, looking at him with a rare display of open worry. Not just as king- but as a friend.
He was too tired. Jonah couldn’t keep this up anymore, this empty facade of hollow emotions, not when they were burning up inside of him like a forest fire, destroying everything in their path. He didn’t have the strength to cover everything up with another lie.
“It’s Alice-”
“Alice?” Lancelot cocked an eyebrow.
“Nothing like that! She’s wonderful, of course, but I just-” Jonah looked around the office, focusing on each fold in the curtains as if it were the most interesting thing in the world. Anywhere, just not at Lancelot. “Sometimes I feel like she- deserves something more. Someone better.”
Lancelot smiled, amused, “Better than you? Where would she even find such a person?”
Jonah’s gaze fell on the king, cold and hard and yet embarrassed, and Lancelot’s smile faded. Oh. If there were two men in the world he genuinely admired, it was his brother and Lancelot, no doubt about it.
“Sit, Jonah. I would never come between the two of you, you know that.” Lancelot spoke patiently. “Have you talked to her about this?”
“How could I possibly-?”
“Then, you don’t know.”
“Don’t know what?”
“Alice is worried sick about you. I came upon her in the hallway late last night. I was surprised that she was still awake at that time. It looked like she’d been crying. So I sat down with her and we talked.”
Jonah listened with a furrowed brow and worried lip. Where was he last night? He’d been working on reports again, and woke up at his desk come sun-up. He hadn’t even made it to their bedroom yesterday. Had she been up all night, waiting for him? Worried to the point of tears, to the point of finding comfort in another man’s arms?
What he’d been so afraid of… had he himself incited it?
“She said you’ve been distant since the ball. That she’s worried you fell for someone, someone better, and that you’ve lost interest in her. Jonah, you are my right hand and so I say this out of respect- if you break her heart-”
“No! That’s not- I would never!”
He was still trying to process the information. Did Alice really think that? Had he driven her to tears and countless nights of worry? What sort of partner was he, to let these awful thoughts take root in her mind? She was the most wonderful person in the world and never in his wildest imagination could he conjure up someone else he’d rather be with. He wanted to rip his heart out and place it at her feet, so desperately he needed to right this wrong.
And… did she care for him so deeply that the thought of losing him was this painful? All of this was making his head hurt. He didn’t know where to start - but he knew he had to, somewhere, and fast.
“That’s not it at all.” Jonah insisted.
Lancelot nodded slowly, that shadow of a smile surfacing once more. “So I thought. I figured this was just a misunderstanding…  but you shouldn’t underestimate the dangers of simple misunderstandings, either.”
“Yes. Of course. Thank you. I’ll- I’ll go talk to her. Excuse me!”
He rushed out of the room without waiting to be excused, with only one thought on his mind.
Alice!

Cradle Omegaverse
You waited for it, and finally I finished. I hope anon will not kill me I really apologize.
Little info: whenre there is a * it means I am not confident of what I wrote because I haven’t played the route yet and I don’t like spoiler
So please don’t spoiler me
Feel free to tell me if you have a different idea uwu
Lancelot Kingsley: Alpha
I mean, he can use magic, and we know that is rare (and powerful).
It would make sense that the King in the Red Army would be an Alpha, wouldn’t it?
Also he has an aura of power surrounding him ok?
He needs a hug tho
He is more severe to the other Alphas in the army cause he wants them to understand they can’t go boss around whenever they want
Jonah Clemence: Alpha
PoSsEsSiVe
Honestly, his ego is half due to the alpha stuff
He was blessed with the power and use it to protect the ones he loves
Run if you are on his bad side
I love you I swear, but these are facts
Edgar Bright: Beta
He needs to hide to do the jack’s duty
So he needs to go unnoticed
Who can do it better than a common beta?
He fights like an apha
Zero: Omega*
I still haven’t played his route so this may change…
He couldn’t care less of the second gender or whatever and is ready to fight everyone who says omega aren’t worthy
Good job teaching him, Edgar
Uses his pheromones to calm people that are stressed because of an attack
When he first joined the army one alpha guy said he couldn’t be there since he was an omega, the guy still runs away when he sees Zero’s shadow
Strong as an alpha
Kyle Ash: Alpha
He just gives me the vibe of tired-with-life-alpha type
He couldn’t care less of the division, alpha, beta, omega, too tiresome remember who is who and how to talk to them for that
He does remember everyone’s second gender because he is a nice guy and I guess it does change something in how to treat patients?
His brother was a beta
Ray Blackwell: Alpha
Again, he can use his own magic, that is pretty cool
And again, he is the king, I guess being an alpha would still be a plus that helps you for this?
He is another one that doesn’t care for all the class stuff
Cats are driven by him due to his pheromones, change my mind
Sirius Oswald: Omega
He is the mom, the “I must protect my children” gene is the strongest in him
Also because of his family
Chutney loves the soft and sweet pheromones he releases, that’s why she is sweet with him around and act like Satan with everyone else
Luka Clemence: Beta
Another reason why his family ignored him to give Jonah all the attention
“How could he be born as a beta? We have been Alphas for generations”
Works ten times hard because he want to show that he is as worth as an alpha
He does have the strength of an alpha and that makes him proud
Still thinks he can do better and overwork himself
Fenrir Godspeed: Beta
He is an energy concentrate
If he was an alpha too, his body would probably explode
And he is too precious to die
Likes to laugh at the shocked face people makes when they discover he isn’t an alpha
Probably makes bad jokes about it all the time
Seth Hyde: Beta*
I still don’t know his story but…
He gives me edgar vibes so he needs to hide too
And being a beta would help him A LOT
He likes to disguise as an omega to confuse the enemy
Harr Silver: Alpha*
MaGiC= AlPhA
Wasn’t magic a rare thing to people too? It doesn’t look like it
Shy alpha, doesn’t want to fight but goes berserker if you hurt someone he loves
Is able to hide is alpha with magic so no one is able to recognize him when he goes in town
Loki Genetta: Alpha
MAGIC
His parents were beta, that’s why they were so scared of him
Even being a strong alpha he is scared of losing the ones he loves
Never ones used the alpha strength to make someone obey him
“I am a good Alpha, follow me, Alice”
Blanc Lapin: Beta*
Being a beta helps him in diplomatic affairs
Still everyone is attracted to him, so no one believes he is a beta
Helps a lot when alphas are fighting and encourage omegas to don’t be treated like slaves
He is the only reason why Cradle didn’t blow up already
Oliver Knight: Beta*
Thanks the gods that he doesn’t have neither rut nor heat so that he can make his work without delay
Has a stronger scent when he is in adult form
Doesn’t care of the second gender of people and doesn’t do any effort to remember it
He still remember it for the people that are close to him tho
From here is just random things I think, I am sorry
Deen Tweedle: Beta?*
He is a teacher and it’s one of those work where if you are a beta it’s better, you have less problems

The Seven Haunts of Headquarters (Zero/Tania)
A/N: Includes small mentions of murder and suicide.
------
“Come again? A what?”
Edgar’s smile took an even more smug angle than it was already and he leaned in closer. “A tour of the Seven Haunts of Headquarters.”
Zero sighed, pressing a hand to his brow. “Not interested, Edgar.”
Edgar tutted, his smile ever present despite Zero’s lack of enthusiasm. “I wasn’t asking you, dearest Zero. I was asking Alice.” He turned back to Tania, putting a hand on the hilt of his sword at his waist. “I’m the best tour guide you’ll ever meet. I won’t let you come to any harm from any wandering ghosts. What do you say?”
Zero’s brow pinched and he grumbled something about Edgar being the only tour guide for this farce, but Tania ignored it as she debated. She was sure she had been all over headquarters at this point, but she hadn’t ever felt uncomfortable in any location in particular. Trying to come up with one place, let alone seven, that could be haunted was near impossible.
“I’ll go.”
“Tania, you may want to rethink--”
“Excellent. Meet me here at dusk.”
She could feel the frustration rolling off Zero as Edgar gave her a short bow and brushed past them to finish crossing the Red Bridge towards headquarters. Clearing her throat, she waited for Zero to look at her.
“It’s just Edgar being Edgar. It’ll be fine.”
“I’m coming with you.”
Her eyes widened for a second before she gave him a small smile. He had said only a moment before that there was no way in hell he’d be going. Knowing it was his solution to protect her against whatever shenanigans Edgar had up his sleeve, she leaned over to rest her head on his arm.
“Thank you,” she murmured against his jacket sleeve. He let out a heavy sigh and she knew that it wasn’t for her. She pulled back and hooked her pinkie with his, turning back toward town. “Shall we go get the candy?”
“Yeah. Lots of lollipops.”
“Mmhmm, lots of lollipops for you and the little kids.”
Zero paused, pulling her back when she started to walk away. Before she could ask what he was doing, he spoke haltingly. “Promise me. That you’ll tell me if you get too scared. We can leave whenever we want. Honestly, he’d probably be more satisfied if we cut out early, ugh.”
Tania smiled. “I doubt it will be that bad, Zero. But yes, I promise.”
“Okay,” he said, squaring his shoulders. “Let’s go.”
------
She was a liar. She should have known better. It was Edgar, of course she should have known better. Tania cursed herself internally, not sure if she could even speak if she wanted to as Edgar led her and Zero around the hidden spaces of headquarters.
They had started at the bridge, where he said to meet him. It had still been somewhat light then, but the red hues of sunset against the bridge only gave his story more imagery as he told them all about the soldier who was said to have jumped off the bridge to his death a hundred years ago.
Moving to the next location, Edgar had taken them to the base of a large tree on the edge of the courtyard. He had stood in front of them with an all too pleasant grin as he waxed poetic over the various hangings that occurred generations ago on its large branches, both as punishment for soldiers who had attempted deserting the army and by those who did the act themselves by choosing death over facing battle.
Now, they were walking across the courtyard back to the main building, Edgar talking cheerily to himself a dozen feet in front of them. Zero walked next to her and Tania glanced up him to find him watching her carefully. She cleared her throat, watching Edgar’s back intently.
“Tania, is this--”
“It’s fine, Zero. I’m not scared.” She did her best to relax her back, her spine stiff from the pose she had settled in, trying to look as tall and as strong as possible in front of her nerves. “A bit unsettled, but not scared.”
She could hear his expression in his voice even without having to look at him as he responded. “I told you to tell me when you get scared.”
“I promise, I will tell you. I’m fine.”
“Hmm.”
He didn’t sound convinced and when he reached over to hook his pinkie with hers, she prayed he couldn’t feel how clammy her skin was in comparison to his.
“Now now, little lovebirds,” Edgar said, holding the door open for them as they went inside. “Let’s not get too distracted from the tour.”
Tania sniffed and took her hand back, crossing her arms over her chest and looking at him defiantly to cover her worry of what was coming next. “Where are we going now?”
“Follow me. We will be going to visit the ghost in the infirmary.”
Zero sighed, but it sounded somewhat relieved compared to the other ones he had been letting out that night. That helped soothe Tania more than anything Edgar could have said, so she did as he asked until they were down the hallway from the infirmary.
“Shh,” Edgar hushed, holding a finger to his lips, looking unnaturally serious for the first time since the tour began. “Can you hear it?”
Tania bit her lip and dropped her head, putting all her focus to her ears. They waited silently for a minute before she shook her head.
“Let’s get closer then.” Edgar moved until he was standing outside the infirmary door. “How about now?”
She perked her ears again, and sure enough, she was able to hear...something. It didn’t sound much like a ghost. Though, she supposed, she wasn’t sure how a ghost was supposed to sound in the first place. It was soft and rhythmic and faintly familiar.
Edgar reached for the door handle and whispered, “Let’s see if we can catch the ghost, shall we?”
Throwing the door open with a slam, there was a yelp and a crash inside. Startled, Tania stepped into the doorway to see what was happening. Kyle was sprawled on the floor where he must have fallen off his couch, rubbing his head with one hand.
“What the hell, Edgar,” he grumbled, swinging the bottle in his other hand toward him weakly. “I was sleeping.”
“Granted,” Zero said behind Tania and she turned to see him wearing the smallest of smiles. “Kyle’s snoring certainly does haunt these halls.”
“What’s that supposed to mean,” Kyle groaned, attempting to get his feet. “I don’t snore.”
Edgar and Zero both made a disagreeing hum and Tania couldn’t help but giggle.
“Let the tour continue,” Edgar said, turning around with gusto and leaving Kyle to fend for himself.
“The tour? Oh,” Kyle rolled his eyes and pulled himself back onto the couch. “Good luck, Tania.”
“Thanks?”
“Let’s go,” Zero murmured, looping his finger around hers and taking her with him.
Feeling much better than she had outside, she let Zero take her away, where they followed Edgar to Lancelot’s office.
“What’s in here?” she asked, quirking an eyebrow at Edgar.
“Come in and see,” he said, voice low and mysterious, opening the door and waving an arm for her to go first.
Tania stepped into the office. It was dark, lit by the moon through the windows and a few small crystals Lancelot had laying around the room. The king wasn’t there, likely taking care of business elsewhere, and the large room seemed so cold with nobody else there.
A brush to her hand and Zero was next to her, his thumb stroking over the outside of hers. She looked up at him and gave his hand a quick squeeze. Edgar closed the door, drowning out the last of the light that came in from the hallway. Silently, he moved in front of them, his smile dark and shadowed with more than just the faint light of the crystals in the room.
“Can you feel it?” Edgar whispered. “So much blood has been spilt in this room. Red and Black alike. If you stay very still...and very quiet...you might sense one of the spirits that have haunted the Kings for generations.”
Edgar held his hands behind his back as he watched them in silence. Tania wondered how long she was supposed to wait, the quiet of the room unchanging. But as the minutes drew on, she could almost feel a change in the air. There was something electric and heavy that eased over her. Her heart began to thump loudly in her ears, overtaking whatever it was she could have potentially heard. A shiver down her spine was all the warning she had before she felt a tug on her hair.
“Ahh!” she yelped, jumping and flipping around to see nothing but the empty room behind her. “Z-Zero! Something--Something pulled my hair!” Her breath was shallow and panicked as she reached a hand out to grip at the front of his shirt and Zero immediately gathered her into his arms to carry her out the door, slamming the door open in his rush.
“Is this the end of the tour?” Edgar asked after them, voice far too teasing and bright. He waited until Zero was down the hallway before he tossed an empty magic crystal in the air from where he had hid it from sight. “Trick or treat? A little of both, perhaps.”
Zero carried her to her room, kicking the door closed with his heel behind him and carefully setting her down on her bed. He let out a sound as she clung to him, keeping him close. Adjusting her in his arms, he moved her to the center of the bed and lay next to her on the blankets. Tania snuggled in closer, keeping her eyes shut tight even as tears burned at the corners for release.
“Stay with me tonight?” she asked against his chest, voice pitious and broken.
Zero trailed a hand through her hair, hoping to erase whatever she had felt in Lancelot’s office, pushing back the thoughts of what he was going to do to Edgar next time he saw him. Challenge him to a sword fight, at the very least. But for now, his love needed his attention and care and he would be a fool to not give it to her.
“Of course,” he murmured. “I’m here for you, always.”

Shattering the Bond of Twins Part 1
This is @toloveawarlord and @plumpblueberry fault. I’m in OC hell.
The tea rooms had been an adequate way of passing the afternoons, as Irene returned dutifully to the Eustice manor in time for preparation for her father’s usual evening demands. Her twin brother was out as per usual, enjoying his position as the younger brother to the Eustice name. Their elder brother had five years on them and was dutifully serving the Red Army as the Ten of Hearts. He rarely came home, so it was more than a little surprising to see him in the living room opposite their father.
“Irene, glad to see you could make it home,” the distaste in her father’s voice was apparent, though if it was in his power, then she would be locked in the manor and under his direct control as a puppet like her mother was.
“I had informed you of my timely return father,” her voice was curt but unchallenging. There was nothing to be gained by agitating the man. “How can I be of assistance? And Levi, a pleasure to see you,” her smile was pleasant but restrained, the Ten of Hearts had a duty to the position and family, of course, his presence here would not be a social visit.
“Likewise, Irene,” Levi was still fully dressed in the uniform, stiff as ever and watching his sister with a sharp eye.
“You are of an age where you should be married, we have been sourcing an adequate suitor. Levi has just come back with a response from the Clemence family,” her father would drag her brother through this. “Their eldest son is also in need of a bride to continue the family, your mother will take you to the dress store tomorrow, and the party is being held next weekend. This news will be announced then, so please try to hold your tongue in gossiping about it.”
“I would never dream of going against your wishes,” Irene gave a restrained smile. The Queen of Hearts was notorious for being a stuck up pompous ass most of the time, it was always his way, or you didn’t do it. It was almost possible to sympathise with his little brother who had defected to the Black Army territory. “I was going to check on the maids and how dinner was coming on, would you like me for anything else, father?”
“No, you may leave now.”
His tone was cold, there was nothing loving in this family as James came bounding in, high off something as he pushed Irene aside. Her twin brother was allowed the freedoms she could only dream of, but his entrance also meant the attention was no longer on her as she approached the kitchens. Her skirts were brushing against the floor, alerting the staff to her approach as the maids and servants were already rushing around in a panicked state.
“When is dinner due to be served?” Her question was addressed to the head chef, a man who refused to bow to any woman as per the usual state of affairs.
“At seven thirty, as it is every night, you stupid girl,” he hissed.
Irene had no authority in this manor. It was suffocating, but all she was merely smile at the foul man.
“I will inform my father then,” her smile didn’t warm her eyes as she left the room.
Every staff member knew she never returned to her father after this daily exchange. She would go to her room and pass the time until dinner was to be served. She would play the part of the dress-up doll while her father was at the manor, she would never question him in earshot of her brothers or the staff, she did as he wished and always made sure to dress the part. During his absences, then the strangest of things were happening. Irene would be out most evenings, and the postman would always have a pile of letters for her, not that it would ever be shared who she dared to communicate with. She had no friendship with any of the maids, she had refused to take on a lady in waiting, saying that the staff had better things to be doing than to pander to her needs. Something that her father had approved of since it meant that the appearance of the manor was always going to be the primary concern, though it did also mean that maids came and left on a cycle. No one dared to say ‘no’ to the head of the Eustice family, of course.
Everything was set in its stone. Irene would wed Jonah Clemence and set the Eustice family in good stead within Cradle. Beyond their position as the Ten of Hearts of course. This was the only way that Irene could bring her family some use and pay her father back for her upbringing.
***
The dress code was as formal and stiff as ever. There was no official announcement as to the occasion, and Irene arrived with her mother and father. The dress was in the colours of the Eustice family, a dark royal blue and shining ivory as her father had initially disapproved of the fact it was sleeveless and off the shoulder until the dark blue satin gloves that came up to just over her elbows were displayed. It would never do to show too much skin, of course, that was unbecoming.
Most of the families of the Red and Black territories were present. Anyone who was anyone in power was present. Her father was only loyal to money and public image, as Irene had already been instructed not to leave his side unless he had allowed it. Her mother was a shadow of the woman in the wedding portraits and early paintings that were displayed around the house. Her father cruelly said that Irene had stolen her beauty since she had never been the same since giving birth to the twins.
He believed that Irene was just another woman. She had no drive, she would be sated by having a husband and would cease to be his problem as Levi approached.
“Jonah has not arrived yet, but I will keep searching for him,” Levi announced to their father quietly, only just loud enough for Irene to hear.
The siblings shared a look. Levi had always loathed the twins, they had gone through nothing like he had for a childhood. James had declined to attend the ball, and that was fine, but it would be a disgrace to the family name if Levi had refused. Their father had pushed and pushed for Irene to be matched to another officer, he had even tried to insist on Lancelot. Levi’s choice was the elusive Jack of Hearts; instead, he had to settle when the Clemence family had reached back to him. Jonah had been furious when he was told, to the point that the two nearly had a duel in the corridor. Edgar and Zero intervened, with some form of ‘help’ from Kyle on the side, mostly bitterly complaining that he didn’t need to be stitching up the officers as well as the soldiers over something so petty.
His hatred of her was well known. Levi had always been telling Irene how weak she was as a child, saying that the only thing a woman was good for was spreading her legs, and that was how she was to spend the rest of her days of course.
Then Edgar’s approach seemed to change the entire tone.
“Levi, I’m surprised to see you here,” the Jack of Heart’s smile didn’t reach his eyes, it read more as a warning that Levi was stepping out of line. Something that tickled Irene before the attention switched to her. “May I have this dance, it seems a shame for you to miss out,” his gaze lingered on Levi, who was trying to ignore his ‘superior’. The accusations of Irene being loose-lipped would flow as she felt her father tense up next to her. “Since it has become a hot topic of the Red Army barracks that Jonah is to be wed after Levi and Jonah could not contain their tempers in the corridors of course,” he continued, immediately freeing Irene of any blame, not that it would stop their father.
“It’s improper for a young lady to dance with any man who is not her intended,” Irene smiled, inclining her head slightly, trying to calm the atmosphere. “But thank you kindly for the offer, Jack of Hearts.”
“For you, it’s Edgar,” his smile was the scariest thing about him until she saw the flicker of a real one, and he kissed the back of her hand. “Levi,” he firmly said, all pleasantries disappearing before Irene felt her father grabbing her arm tightly as the Bright heir departed.
“You whore,” her father’s voice was a whisper in her ear, an accusation that he would always assume of her of course. “You can’t resist flirting with any man who looks at you-”
A cough brought shame to her father, just because he was caught. Jonah Clemence was frowning at the man, staring over Irene’s head with a passionate glare before extending his hand to the female.
Words weren’t necessary. Edgar had been merely riling up her brother by talking to her before Jonah lead her decisively onto the dance floor. He was proud by all appearances, taking the lead in the dance as usual in these situations while Irene naturally stepped into the demur follower. Dancing was one of her favoured pastimes, but this was just a manufactured reaction.
“For everyone’s sake, I hope you are nothing like the rest of your family,” Jonah’s words shattered the doll’s mask that Irene wore in public, and the couple froze.
“Let’s assume nothing then, but it would be best to speak freely and outside of such an event where we are about to be made the centre of attention,” Irene lowly replied, as their names were shouted, and everyone turned to them, clapping in response to the news that the two were engaged to be married.

✮  : ━  ROMANCE HEADCANONS ! ❫
Tumblr media
tagged by: @team-phantom thank you ! tagging: @blunderbots, @bunniedrabbot, @infinite-unleashed, @gadgte, @dextined
NAME: Shadow the Hedgehog NICKNAME: Terios, Shad, Shads, Stripes, faker, hedgehog, bastard (the Ultimate Lifeform is his main alias, along with Black Wind and Lancelot in particular verses) GENDER: nonbinary, presents as male ROMANTIC ORIENTATION: pansexual demiromantic (but he just identifies as gay) PREFERRED PET NAMES: He doesn’t really have any, unless you count Shads. He only lets Sonic call him that; the nickname means a lot to him as it obviously involves Sonic no longer calling him Faker
FAVOURITE CANON SHIP(S): He doesn’t have any FAVOURITE NON-CANON SHIP(S): i try to keep an open mind because i think most ships can be good if written right but hngghn sonadow’s my fave
OPINION ON TRUE LOVE: well, he’s a cynic, so that stuff’s never been something he put too much stock in, if he ever even thought about it. i think some part of him wants to believe that good people with a bit of luck can experience it, though. maybe not the whole ‘there’s only one person that’s your soulmate and that you belong to and they’re the one you should spend your whole life with and if you don’t find them you failed at life’ deal, but, well. let’s just say by now he’s aware that one single person can make you very happy OPINION ON LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT: technically if hate at first sight is a thing (which it definitely is), then love at first sight can be too, not that he’s ever come close to experiencing that. much like hate at first sight, though, it really doesn’t say much about what your opinion of this person you’re seeing for the first time will become after a while HOW ‘ROMANTIC’ ARE THEY?: he has just about zero instinct when it comes to romance. any romantic gesture on his part is either a result of rouge’s influence or a total coincidence. he displays certain manners at all time such as holding doors and paying the bill because he was raised to be old-fashioned polite, not because he’s trying to be romantic. he might bring flowers because he thinks they’re pretty, not because he’s trying to be romantic. he’ll get real affectionate once he’s comfortable enough simply because he’s hella touch-starved - not because he’s trying to be romantic. you get the gist.
IDEAL PHYSICAL TRAITS: don’t eat garlic stuff right before getting all up in his face. no but seriously there isn’t any in particular to be honest, he’s not really shallow in that sense. of course he’ll be more physically drawn to typically attractive people, people who stand out in some way like from having really nice green eyes or a good smile or for being in good shape. i realize after typing these examples that it probably sounds like im describing someone in particular but that was completely unintentional- the point is that anyone can be attractive for one trait or another. it doesn’t really matter romance-wise because shadow is super demi anyway so he won’t be interested in anyone he doesn’t have a deep emotional connection with, after which someone’s apparence becomes trivial IDEAL PERSONALITY TRAITS:  being able to put up with him would be a good start ? he’s not exactly the friendly kind, anyone who gets a little too chummy will get pushed away eventually and it takes a lot of patience and determination to get through to him past that stage. and if you do then you have to deal with his odd attachment behavior and trust issues and force of habit all of which usually translate in misplaced hostility on his part. shadow is no picnic UNATTRACTIVE PHYSICAL TRAITS: oh is this where i bring up the garlic stuff again. yeah once more there’s nothing inherently bad here, if anything he might be put off by people who share traits with other people he knows (or knew) and doesn’t want to be reminded of ? but it’s nothing all that extreme UNATTRACTIVE PERSONALITY TRAITS: laziness, probably. people who actively avoid doing their part, who are unreliable and never take responsibility will always get under his skin
IDEAL DATE: it happens. no really, he’ll take what he can get. if he can go on a date with someone he likes it’s plenty good enough for him and he’ll likely enjoy it regardless DO THEY HAVE A TYPE?: g...good people i guess. like, morally good. whether the help everyone everywhere good or steal from the rich give to the poor good. so long as there’s good in you, you’re susceptible to be his type AVERAGE RELATIONSHIP LENGTH: there’s no real answer to that question. i want to say that so long as it’s working out it could last indefinitely, but shadow’s got a lot of work to do on himself still. he’s got some serious personal issues with tying himself to people due to past trauma and honestly ? any bad episode he goes through mentally has a certain amount of chance of resulting in him ending things because he doesn’t feel he’s meant for this PREFERRED NON-SEXUAL INTIMACY: sleeping together.... he’s a little weird about sleeping in that he doesn’t need it the same way normal people do, so he can easily put it off whenever it’s convenient for him which overtime translated into him never letting himself fall asleep with people around. so sleeping intimacy feels really special once he’s comfortable with it and really helps him ground himself, never mind all the comfort and cuddling it can also involve
COMMITMENT LEVEL: loyalty is one of shadow’s most prominent character traits so, considering that on top of everything else that has to happen before he even agrees to a relationship, it’s safe to say his commitment level is off the charts. once you’re his, he’s yours and no one else’s. PAST RELATIONSHIPS?: none that were romantic

  Ch. 1
Pairing: Edgar x Iris
Tumblr media
“The Red Army doesn’t bend rules.” The king of hearts icy eyes showed no remorse for his words. Since recently visiting my home, he would know that my brother had shirked his duty to join and still refused even with Lancelot Kingsley at our dinner table. That encounter had made our family lose its status. Our house, our land, our dignity. Ripped away by the selfishness of my brother.
Without a horse, I had walked for two days to even get to the Red Army Headquarters. The soldiers at the front gate had tried to turn me away but the Ace of Hearts allowed my entry. Even he said that it would be a futile attempt to speak to Lancelot now. “I see no where in the rules where women aren’t allowed.”
Lancelot didn’t budge on his stance. “Ian has refused his duty, and henceforth, that has taken away any status that the Adley family has. They have no place among the army. Zero will take you home, Iris.” His gaze dropped back down to the papers on his desk.
“I don’t have a home, anymore. You took that from us,” I said, turning on my heel. My family had split apart mere days after having our status demoted to civilians. My mother’s family had taken her in under the stipulation that she remove any contact with the rest of us. My father moved to black territory, hoping to find work. Ian had disappeared the very night he refused to join. My place had yet to be found. Using money that I stole from the house before I left, I’ve been moving around from town to town, finding no welcome as a stripped aristocrat.
Zero held the door open for me, not having said a word the entire time.
“If Ian finds himself ready to serve his country, I might be willing to allow him in as an ordinary soldier. His place as the Ten of Hearts will not be reconsidered until he proves himself,” Lancelot spoke, still not taking his attention off his work.
If I can even find him. His quest to find his true love had drove him away from his family, making him turn his back on us. If that’s what love is, I will never succumb to it. We were opposites. He enjoyed cooking, housework, and writing poems. I had been the one who mastered swordplay and learned to strategize for war. For fun, father would say. It would be to encourage my brother not to be outdone by me.
Following behind me like shadow, Zero finally spoke. “The Red Army has never had a woman as soldier, let alone as one of the Chosen Thirteen. I’m sorry that he denied your request, but it’s probably for the best. War isn’t a—”
“Don’t finish that sentence,” I snapped. Men. Always so sure that women are weak and frail. If he’d only given me a chance to show how well I can handle a sword… I was sure he would change his mind. Instead, all the King of Hearts did was hide behind their misogynistic view.
“The stables are this way, I can take you wherever you’d like,” he offered, gesturing away from the main gate. He didn’t seem like a bad person, but with my blood boiling, there was no kind words that would make me calm.
With a shake of my head, I couldn’t help the anger in my tone. “I’ll be fine on my own. The Central Quarter isn’t that far.” Without looking back, I forced my body to move. If Lancelot thinks that his harsh words and assessments are going to keep me from getting back what he stole from my family, he is sorely mistaken.
The soldiers stationed by the entrance were snickering to each other and staring blatantly as I passed by. They instantly straightened up as two others approached on horseback. Both of them were high ranking officers. Their crests were the Jack of Hearts and the Queen of Hearts. Rumor has it that the Queen of Hearts is has no heart when it comes to training new recruits. The Jack, however, had a family name that I recognized, the Bright’s. While my family never had any direct contact, I’m sure the two of us have met at least once when we were young and at some social party.
The walk back to the Central Quarter took half an hour and my feet ached from all the traveling I’d done in the last few days. The prestigious inn near the very center cost more than I could afford for a few nights, so I simply planned to stay one. Where to go next alluded me. In my frustrated state, my mind wandered to the Black Army. They were said to take anyone in who had skills.
Groaning, I flopped on the comfy bed, something that the other inns in smaller towns lacked. Joining the Black Army would do me no good. It won’t get my status back in the Red Territory. It won’t bring my family back together. Mother would rather live dirt poor than move to Black Territory. The money in my satchel clinked together, reminding me off their worth.
If Ian finds himself ready to serve his country.
Ian would die in the first day of training.
Sitting up, the wheels in my head began to turn. Lancelot only met Ian once, for a brief moment. That’s not long enough to have accessed his character in battle or his skills with sword. Grabbing my dagger from my satchel, I couldn’t get to the bathroom quick enough. My image in the mirror stared back at me. Ian and I were three years apart, and while no one had said we could be twins, we did look much alike. Same thin blonde hair that frizzed in the summer heat. Same strikingly bright blue eyes. His jawline was more defined than mine, which was softer and rounder.
If Lancelot Kingsley won’t accept anyone but Ian…
I’ll have to become him.
Raising the blade to my gorgeously long blonde hair, I sliced the strands bit by bit. The pile on the floor growing thicker by the second. I couldn’t bare for it to be so short like most men were. Instead, making it still long enough to pull it back. After all his soul searching for the past six months, he’s bound to of let himself go a little. My other features still proved my gender, as I had a decent amount of breast to cover up.
The only favor I could pull to help was a seamstress in town who favored me since I was a child. Rosanne Collings. Her business is going strong, and she makes very beautiful clothes for both men and women. If anyone could help me, it was her. But, at this hour, she might already have left.
Tomorrow is the first day of training, and if Ian fails to show up, I wonder if Lancelot would ever consider letting him in again.
Thank the heavens that Rosanne still worked late. She smiled at me, “Hello, Iris. It’s lovely for you to have to dropped by. I heard what happened with your family, and dear if you need anything, please don’t hesitate to ask.” This woman is the most wonderful woman who ever lived. She had never married, nor had a child of her own. To her, I was her daughter.
“Rosanne, I do need something,” I said, shifting my weight from one foot to the other. If she turns me away, I’m not sure that there’s any way I can get what I need. This is all Ian’s fault. The first thing I do when I see him again some day is punch him.
Rosanne pulled the door open further. “Please do come in! What is it?” She closed the door, flipping the lock. She had always been so careful when living alone.
“I need you to help me look like a man.”
