Garmadon's Reign AU: Kai and Nya

After the four ninja saved Nya and sealed up Garmadon, Kai didn’t really see a purpose in staying in the group after saving his sister and he felt that staying would bring her into more danger.

So he left the team once he got her back.

But when Garmadon returned, Nya saw the way people were treated and tried to convince her brother that they needed to fight back but Kai just wanted to keep his sister safe.

The two fought and Nya ran away from home, only to find herself in the rebellion where she stole from the smithy to provide them weapons.

Kai went into depression when he found out Nya had left and tried to look for her to no avail but when he caught a glimpse of her stealing from the smithy, he was first angry and scared but decided to silently support his little sister by making weapons for her.

He didn't look for her after that, knowing that she wanted to form her own path just like how he was willing to be a blacksmith.

ok wait i want to talk about the whole ‘kai gave up his childhood to take care of nya’ vs ‘no in canon nya was the one looking out for kai’

bc i don’t think it makes sense for either of these to be true?

kai was the one running the whole blacksmith shop, he was doing his best to provide for them all the way up to season 1. i think obviously kai took care of nya when she was too young to do things for herself, and that he definitely took on a parental role bc he’s what 2 years older than her? as a kid that’s a lot!

but do we really think nya, hyper independent nya, would sit back and let kai slave away for her when she could do things for herself? i’m sure she was trying to get kai to let her take care of herself as soon as she was able to!

nya would never just let kai do everything for her, and kai would never allow his younger sister to be the one providing for the both of them.

and throughout the seasons they’ve barely shown to have an a huge younger sister older brother dynamic, they view each other as equally capable of taking care of themselves.

i feel like at the end of the day, they were just kids looking out for one another however they could.
