Just some kind of misunderstanding
I have to reconstruct the reason of "huh?". As I understand it, the rewriters at Archie Comics had settled on an idea of ret-conning reprinted materials so that they follow other reprinted materials. So here I expect that there is some story where Jughead injured himself on " Chicken Ski Jump". But there is no such story.
A roll over to comics dot org, and I have my answer. No. This digest has no such story. But an earlier digest does. It is a one pager with this synopsis: Archie and Jughead finds a ski jump specially designed for cowards. The ret-conned Chicken Run injury -- an injury that did not happen in the gag whose punchline is that it is a comically small slope -- is now canon.
Might as well slide in a pun, I guess.
And I suppose this is a reason for a permanent move on reprint versions to one that has been placed in the same narrative universe as a one page gag. An unpc phrase -- whether it ought be or not I cannot say.
