It's funny seeing discussions around the new hbomberguy video on different sites. Over on Reddit, most are talking about internet historian. Which makes sense considering their demographic has a higher percentage of libertarian, centre/alt-right leaning gamer boys than the typical social media site. Meanwhile on Tumblr it's mainly Somerton, which also makes sense considering Tumblr's high percentage of left leaning, queer and queer-friendly people. Interesting how the video is almost kind of like a litmus test for the type of demographic each site hosts

man, the world seems terrible and full of bad things, and then you read about the Chicagoan who started developing ramen recipes with meticulous (even obscene) attention to detail, or an Irish hurler who decried state-sponsored spending for sports complexes live on air, or well-considered analyses of films or animated television shows and whether they are narratively/dramatically coherent, and it's....well, it's okay to be here. I like it here.

I just wanna mention the tool "postybirb" its to post on multiple sites at the same time, so less time/energy spent typing up the same post over and over currently works for bluesky and tumblr (& more), maybe it can help you out a little bit
thank you, that would be super super helpful for me... i've been like. ambiently aware that stuff like this exists but the reminder + nudge towards a specific tool might be what i need to finally get into it :')

“Don’t you get tired of over qualifying your words for random people on the internet” YES GOD SAY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(context)
thank you anon! like i really feel this so hard because like i know we often can't help caring what other people think and can't help feeling like we need to overexplain ourselves for a myriad of reasons, some of them being that social media culture has bred such an environment of like constantly performing and being scrutinized and scrutinizing others to see who is saying exactly the right thing in exactly the right way, and it's like, of course it's always important to be aware and thoughtful about what we say and how we conduct ourselves, but really sometime the black and white mentality goes too far, and learning how to distance yourself and care less about what others think is honestly so vital to enjoying your internet experience and feeling free
and when it comes to the phandom and talking about dnp's relationship specifically, i think a lot of people (mostly outside of tumblr, i feel like most of us here Get It) are still stuck deep in that ~2012-2016 mindset. and like i get that era did a number on a lot of us, but dnp themselves have moved on, and we're allowed to move on too. like so many people on here have already said, it's perfectly natural to think dnp are in a relationship because, lbrh, they've made it pretty much as clear as they can make it without outright saying it. dnp are very aware of how we as a fandom operate and think and know that right now, they're existing in a space where they can be just short of being explicit about their relationship, such that those who actively keep up with their content Know What's Up, but it's not enough for any tabloid site to pick up and run an article on and get the public spotlight trained on them again. given that, i think it's fair for us to pick up what they put down, and anyone in the year 2024 jumping down people's throats for saying they're together just looks silly, and it's time that everyone who still cares about what those people say to just stop caring

I loooove that for the past few months, Tumblr has constantly been deleting the tags I frequently use so that, at this point, I have to manually type them all out every time. And now it's adding in this bullshit:
Tumblr media
Clearly so useful to me and related to my blog's content. 🙃

(Image ID: A tumblr post that reads I need minors to learn how to lie online again. Your name is Derek, you’re 25 and work in accounting now. Please for your own safety learn how to fucking lie. And if you don’t want to lie, then don’t put your age anywhere. Don’t even say whether you’re a minor or not. It is perfectly easy to avoid adult spaces without signposting that you are doing so because you’re a child. Stating your age doesn't protect you this only makes you a target.". End ID) NO. NO. NO. Can we not encourage minors to lie about their age??? And can we ESPECIALLY not encourage them to lie about being an adult??? Predators do not fucking care if you lie about your age. Predators do not care if you tell the truth about their age. ENCOURAGING MINORS TO LIE ABOUT THEIR AGE ISN'T GOING TO PROTECT THEM. Hell, I'd argue that lying about your age is only going to cause *more* problems for folks. Also, saying that sharing your age makes you a target is straight up victim blaming (and fear mongering to an extent too!)
Sharing your age, regardless of if you're a minor or adult, is not going to hurt you by itself. If you're uncomfortable with sharing your age, saying "minor/adult" is fine. Saying that you're above/below a certain age is fine (ex. saying you're above 18).
And if someone is bothering you, breaking your boundaries or if you're an adult and don't want minors interacting (and vice versa), the block button exists for a reason. USE IT.
Seriously it's up to you if you want to share your age publicly or not. At the end of the day the internet is still a very dangerous place, regardless if you share your age or not.

lately i've seen that post going around with the comic of a lesbian couple waking each other up where someone replies with a screenshot of another comic trying to claim op is homophobic. this was because the comment featured talk about asexuals and this comment was made in the height of the ace discourse.
someone else replied to that comment trying to explain that "in the ace discourse, asexual identities themselves were seen as homophobic and that's what the commenter is saying!" i don't really agree with that, at least in this instance, because i think the poster's real problem is with the word "allosexual"
back when ace discourse was in vogue, a big talking point was how the word "allosexual" to describe non-asexual people was problematic. i even saw people refer to it as a slur. this was because it "groups us [gay men, lesbians, "real" queer people] in with our oppressors." never mind that sexualities already group the oppressed with oppressors: race, disability, socioeconomic status, etc. are all grouped under the same label. but this apparently was "different"?.
i think the main problem people had with allosexual is that they thought that it painted queer people as sex obsessed, when in reality it is a neutral descriptor, like cisgender. it just means you experience sexual attraction.
honestly, i still avoid using the word and cringe whenever i see it because i worry people are still going to be upset about it. it's just another way the ace discourse has had lasting affects on asexuals. it destroyed communities, destroyed the language we used to talk about our identities, destroyed in-jokes and memes, and destroyed a lot of asexuals' pride in their identities. all this was by design - the goal was to make asexuals ashamed of their identity so they would shut up about it.
i'm glad we've seem to have moved past that portion of our history, for the most part. at least all the popular blogs aren't making fun of us anymore. i hope we can use the term "allosexual" again because it's a useful descriptor.

i think it should be mandatory that everyone watch The Social Dilemma at least once every six months
#dear everyone saying that tumblr doesn't have an algorithm: yes it does oh my GOD.#i see people say this so often irt twitter and reddit migration#just because tumblr has a different feed system to facebook/inta/twitter doesn't mean the only things you see are exactly what you want#free of influence or coercion#simplest example is tumblr suggesting users and tags for u to follow. what do you think is informing its suggestions?#how does it know which blogs are similar? it's not by fucking chance#please i know we all clown on what a mess this website is and how poorly it delivers ads but let's not forget that that's a choice they mak#if tumblr wanted to deliver ads in the way other social media sites do they could. but it's part of the image they've created for themselve#hence why they feel they can offer a paid subscription to remove ads that has an off switch so u can still see their weird crazy zany ads#because they know how much we love to clown on their shit ads. they know users will screenshot and share ads if they're weird enough#and they want you to. they're not so incompetent that they can't get us classy ads lol. this is their brand. let's not forget that!#anyway this is all triggered by me sending someone (hi bunni <3) a post of misha collin's sfx make up in gotham knights that popped up as a#recommended post despite me never having watched it or searched for it etc. what triggered that post appearing was me searching/tagging spn#a couple times recently. and of course misha collins and spn are frequently cross tagged. anyway since then i have been bombarded with that#godforsaken show constantly on my dash#sorry to gotham knights enjoyers i get the appeal and i am a dc simp but it's just not for me ig#if u read all this i love u im kissing you sloppystyle and or giving u a firm and warm handshake and or a friendly nod like we're walking#past each other on a beautiful day <3#my post

I don't want to have to leave Tumblr because I hate all the fucking Twitter clones because everything about Twitter's UI has always been absolute dog shit. I just want somewhere I can actually put images beneath text so I can show what I'm talking about and use it to break up the text. I can't analyze shit properly elsewhere without that not to mention the stupid fucking character limits. I'm not writing a useless short status update about taking a shit or something I'm trying to write a big fucking essay with images!!!!
