Matt: Ice cream.. and learning from it.
(I think they both have a pretty good and healthy understanding of relationships in general, based on THIS, and whenever they talk about Malec and relationship issues. For example: understanding and listening both sides in an argument or a fight; opening up about struggles to each other is a good thing, communication and being honest with each other is really important.
I mean, it’s understandable, Harry and Shelby got together for (about) 10 years ago, and they been married a few years now. I heard Esther and Matt had been together for a long time too, before the got married.
I guess that one of the reason Malec is working so well, because Matt and Harry understands the love Magnus and Alec has for each other.)

THOS2: A weekend to never forget
So I promised I would give a coverage of my weekend at THOS2 as soon as I would get my HD pictures in. I just got them today so I’ve decided to share my story with you guys finally! It’ll be quite a long post so if you’re interested in hearing about me meeting the best cast there is on this planet feel free to continue reading! :)
So this was my first convention ever so I was very curious to see how things would turn out. I was also very, very nervous to finally meet the amazing people who bring these characters to live so amazingly. So Saturday, our first day, started with an opening panel where the casts greets us and everything and shortly after the OPS were beginning. So the first block was Matt, Harry, Jade and Will. I had Matt and Harry first (and to be honest I was the most nervous to meet those two so that didn’t really ease my nerves. xD).
Meeting Harry Shum Jr
So I was told to go to Harry first and boy, I was shaking in my shoes about how nervous I was meeting him. Photo ops go very quick so in no time it was my turn to take a picture with him and my heart was just beating out of my chest but when I saw him, he just smiled at me and greeted me with a hug and immediately asked me “Hi! How are you doing?’’ and I could talk with him without even stuttering. Like, one hug and all my previous worries about being nervous just flew out the window. He was so sweet and patient with me and I am forever thankful I got the opportunity to meet this man. They day after I met him at the autographe and I had bought him an omamori and I’ll never forget our little conversation we had when I walked up to the table for the autograph session. He asked me how I was doing, if I still had some energy after these tiring two days and even danced with me a little! (Well he danced a bit in his chair but still, AHH) His reaction when he saw the omamori was the cutest thing ever. “An omoari! Oeeh, thank you so much!’’ (Also when he saw our picture he casually said, “Oh yeah I remember you!’’ and I was screaming on the inside.)
Meeting Matthew Daddario
So, after my photoshoot with Harry on the saturday, I immediately queued for Matt’s line in the room where the photo’s were taken. At this point I was a little nervous again because... hello it’s Matt. When I was behind the curtain where Matt took his pictures I could hear him go; “Guys I look ridiculous! I am gonna look ridiculous in these pictures!’’ And at first I thought maybe it were some girls wanting to do some cosplay with hum but NOPE, he was worried about his hat hair! (He wore a cap when he came in during the opening panel and clearly was asked by the crew at the beginning of his photo session to take it off. He later but it back on. xD) So, it was my turn and I walk up to him, give him a hug (which holy shit they all give amazing hugs) and the usual “how are you doing chat’’. So we take out picture and as I’m about to leave (you’re not allowed to hang around for very long) he turns to me and goes “Does my hair look ridiculous to you?’’ and I blink at first and then am like; “What? No! No you look fine, Matt!’’ And he continues to be like “I should’ve done something with it.’’ and I literally stare him dead in the eyes and say: “Matt, you look beautiful.’’ and he FUCKING SMILED AND SAID “Aw, thanks!’’ Yeah no, I was an emotional dead mess after that. Later on this day I had an autographe session with him where I gave him a self made omamori. He was very clearly tired and had a long day behind him so I didn’t want to take up much of his time. I gave him the omamori (which he loved by the way) but forgot to tell him I actually had made it myself. So the next day I had another autographe session and op with him. Because the queue for his op was so long this time there was not much time for small talk, I gave him a hug again and we did the parabatai op which I loved because OH DAMN HE STARES STRAIGHT INTO YOUR SOUL AND THEN HAS THE AUDICITY TO SMIRK AT YOU. ANyways so later on that sunday I had my last autogrpahe session which was him and got my friend an autographe from him. So he asked me about my friend and I told him about her where after I gave him the letter I asked him if he remembered me giving him the omamori. “Yeah! The tiny one right?’’ and so I explained that I made it myself and he was very surprised about that and when I gave him the letter I said that everything was written in there and he went like “Wait, lemme write omamori on it. That way I know it’s from you!’’ after that I said my goodbyes to him and a friend of mine who was stillin line offered a shoulder to cry upon because I was so emtionally overwhelmed :’) But yeah, Matthew Daddario is an angel and I feel so blessed I have met him.
Meeting Alberto Rosende
OKAY THIS HAS GOT TO BE ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOMENTS OF THE ENTIRE EFFING WEEKEND.
Let me start off with the fact that Alberto is a Gryffindor and I am a Gryffindor. Last Christmas my friend had gifted me a Gryffindor scarf so... I took that with me to the con. So when I had my op with him (I had two in one row) I wrapped the scarf around his neck and told him “You can borrow it for today.’’ And his eyes just... widened in surprise and he was like “Oh, thank you. This is so cool.’’ So we did a pose with the scarf and then a regular hug pose afterwards. Later that saturday I also had an autographe with him so naturally, I decided I wanted him to sign the gryffindor op! This entire exchange owns my heart. Alberto Rosende is the kindest soul I have ever met and I only love him more after this convention. So when it was my turn for his autographe he was eating some sweets and I playfully asked him if they were good. He was like “Yeah! Do you want some?’’ They were lemon napoleons AND I DO NOT SAY NO TO SOUR CANDY. So I gave him the picture of us and at first he wrote my name; “Anja. That’s a really pretty name. I love that name.’’ I think I blushed bright red at that lol. Then he saw the op and he gasped and before he even started writing I was like; “Gryffindor’s for life!’’ he stops all movements and was like: “I WAS GONNA WRITE THAT!’’ And we high fived and aahhh my heart was screaming with happiness. So when he had signed my photo I gave him an envelope with a letter and a tiny gift. He looked at me and was like; “Can I open it now?’’ And I was like, yes of course! So he opened it and he smiled so big when he saw the bas guitar keychain I got him. It reminded me of him as well as of Simon so I figured it would be a perfect gift for him. He told me he loved it and honestly, he made my entire day with this exchange. :’’)
Meeting Emeraude, Kat and Dom + the autographes with Jade and Will
So these three ops and autographes went quite fast so I’ve decided to put them under one headline lol. With Jade and Will I only had an autographe.
I had two autographes with Kat on the saturday, one for me and one for a friend. Her throat was very sore from when she was in Australia so I talked and laughed about that bit with her and then she was asking me how I liked the convention and such. Her op was super rushed, it was in and out in the snap of a fingers but she was an angel.
Emeraude was an absolute sweetheart. I talked a bit at the autographe with her about the con as well and then sunday we had our photo op. So I wanted to do the parabatai pose with her and Eme being Eme she was a bit confused which one it was but I showed her and she was like “Oh right! Well as you know I don’t have a parabatai but now you are my first one!’’ “Well I’m very honored to be!’’ She was gorgeous in real life and such a joy to talk with and see at panels.
Dom’s ops were a bit rushed as well but I had the chance to talk to him a bit and gah, his accent in real life. fuck man. Will’s accent too by the way. Shit. I’ve had my doubts about meeting Dom after everything that happened and had been struggling with this decision for the remaining eight months but decided to just do it since I already spend money on the photo op. During his autographe we talked baout my name and The Netherlands and how our J’s sound different, I found it funny he picked up on that xD.
Will was such a fucking pleasure to talk with and he was adorable. Hours before the autographe session he had a panel with Harry that I witnessed and so I had something to talk about with him. That panel was seriously everything.
Jade was a real sweetheart. He was talking in French at first but when he noticed I spoke English he did that (which I think is amazing, speaking French with the local fans) this was on the sunday and at the end of the event so we just talked about the weekend we had and that he was such a sweetheart.
For the rest I have an op with the Lightwood family and the Shumdario duo with one of my best friends and parabatai!
And basically that was my weekend! i ha the most amazing time with this incredible cast and met the best firends and mutuals in real life that I could’ve ever asked for.
And no matter how much I miss them at this point, I know I’ll see some of them back again at THOS3! (Whihc I got a pass for again and I can’t wait!)

ITAINSTITUTE CON 2 - THE M&Gs
Featuring: My confused memories of the M&Gs with Matt&Dom and Alberto.
PARABATAI M&G
Okay, so... The real reason I bought this M&G is because Matt’s were sold out and from other conventions I know that is the experience I enjoy the most even though I spend those 30 minutes taking in the actors’ more than actually interacting with them. but whatever. I’m really sorry I can remember only very little from this M&G.
- Matt was lovely and always gives long and in depth answers to what is asked, sometimes he takes detours and you start wondering ‘Is THIS what I asked him?’ but you can’t help but love how passionate he is when is talking (and how he can’t help using his hands... Italians can relate X°D)
- Some people disagree but BOTH Matt&Dom were a bit sorry the parabatai bond is underdeveloped even though it's (supposed to be, I would say) a deep platonic relationship.
They DO understand that couples are more important, especially Malec for what it means to so many people.
According to them it should be like the feeling you have with a best friend, when you can tell that there’s something wrong just by the way they say “Hi” to you but I personally believe it didn’t come across so well.
- Don’t expect them to talk about what happened in the 3A finale: the writers have decided that everything has been said already with Alec acknowledging that who nearly killed him wasn’t Jace but the Owl in 3x10 and that’s it.
They were quite disappointed about that.
- Someone pointed out that the bond is quite unbalanced and they agreed. They used a simile that I liked, saying that Alec is like oxygen to Jace not in the sense that he is vital to his survival but rather that he takes him for granted and realizes it only when he is fighting for breath while Alec is different ‘cause he has learned to hold his breath for quite a long time by now.
- They were asked if there’s room for improvisation and they said that while it was much more accepted in S1, they can’t add their own twist to it now.
I can’t recall if Matt said something about his scenes but Dom said that apart from the ‘ILY’ in 2x20 (Matt was ENTHUSIASTIC about it and argued that IT HAD TO BE SAID) he also put in the ‘Please, don’t leave me, Alec’ line in 2x03 that was unscripted.
- They were asked if they ever have disagreements writers/directors about their characters, because they feel Jace and Alec would never do something like what is written on the script. They said they discuss it with the writers and sometimes it turns out it would all make sense in a couple of episodes, and sometimes their foot down like Dom did with the Owl (I didn’t quite get in what capacity, I’m sorry) and Matt about having Alec crying: it’s a cheap way to show emotions.
- Matt also said you don't only cry out of sadness but also out of frustration and selfishness (to make the other feel bad, I believe) so yeah, writers should be wary of using crying too much especially with Alec.
(it was then that they asked the question about the lack of balance in the parabatai bond, I think)
- The last question was mine, and I find it doesn’t quite fit what he said to the individual M&G Shumdario news reported (see here: https://twitter.com/ShumDarioNews/status/1019666993920774144) but what Matt had said about not wanting too have Alec breaking down in tears, so it was like:
“Connecting to what we have previously said about showing emotions on screen... I felt a bit underwhelmed by the way Alec acted in the finale, especially when he was saying goodbye to Magnus before he went to Edom, so I was wondering if we can expect to see a less restrained Alec in 3B. ”
He told me that since Alec was on duty as a Shadowhunter - even during the goodbye to Magnus before he goes to Edom - he wouldn't let anything show and just soldier on. Unlike the 2x18 scene where he was just Alec off duty and so taken aback that he didn't know how to react. "That's why I asked you.” (about more emotional scenes for Alec, because I KNOW he can shows a wider range of emotions that what he we have seen during 3x09-3x10)
He said that yeah, we can expect some in 3B.
- I believe someone asked about Alec’s role as the HOTI in 3B and Matt went off on a rant about the Clave. I’m 99% sure it was in the M&G because it would have popped out already on someone’s Twitter if he said in the panel, since he originally said “It’s a FASCIST organization.”
He immediately backpedaled on the term not because he found it too negative for the Clave but for its historical/social connotations (especially in Italy: I was really impressed that he felt the need to immediately correct himself even though nobody said a word about that or glared at him or anything) so he said he wishes Alec could just quit that “Prejudiced and self-serving organization’ that thrives on the subjugation of Downworlders under the pretense of keeping them safe.
****** ALBERTO M&G*********************
So first of all I want to say that Alberto went overtime by, like, 10-15 minutes because he wanted to answer everybody's questions... Such a sweetheart ç_ç <3 !!!
He got into the room by walking in queue with us, so we played along and even complained that he was jumping the queue :D
- Alberto talked a lot about his brother Diego and how him being a director gives him a different insight on his work as an actor, the process of their work together and how inspired they have been by their parents now following their dreams.
- Since he is so passionate about literature he isn’t ruling out becoming a Professor in the future.
- He also said that it was his mom who made him realize he was always prioritizing acting over everything else so he started to organize his part-time jobs so that he could audition for Shadowhunters.
He encouraged to find the thing we prioritize without even realizing (acting for him) and hold on to it, give our all to it. It's never too late; he talked how his mom is now embracing her dreams as a painter and is Dad is getting a PhD.
- He does want to go back on stage and do musicals. If he could, he’d love to star in Newsies and Dear Evan Hansen (he mentioned another title as well but I can't recall what it was 'cause I'm not familiar with it)
- I asked him how it was playing those few scenes he has with Harry.
Like many others at the Con, he is a big fan of Harry too. Right after saying that those scenes were awesome to shoot, he went on gushing how great Harry is and how hard he worked to be a professional in so many different fields.
And how Harry knows a lot more about the business related to TV shows as well so in a way he sees him as his mentor on the show.
- Alberto hopes to have an opportunity to direct in the future, maybe starting from a show not too distant from SH, kinda like what happened for Paul Wesley.
Concerning directors he said that Matt Hastings is the one who has to make sure the ‘mood’ of the show is not lost (that it doesn’t become CSI - Brooklyn, for example) when they have a guest director on the show.
- He agrees that his scene in 3x09 was one of the best ever (and his usually very critical about his acting) but he gave much credit for it to Christina Cox and the writers who made it so tragic and poignant.
Similarly to Matt in the M&G he said that you don't necessarily need to cry rivers to show emotions. Alberto compared that to spilling water on the floor (which he did) against keeping it in the bottle which gives you more room to work.
- He wasn't happy with how the scene where Simon goes to ask Raphael infos about the Mark went. In the editing Simon's hesitation and different tactics to approach Raphael didn't get across... So it looked like Simon was annoying Raphael in a very delicate moment. He had prepared the scene well with David and also had argued that the stakes didn't seem , to him, so high that Simon couldn't save it for a moment when Raphael wasn't suffering that much.
- He wants to use the Rosende Book Club to promote initatives like the Bibliocicleta (https://www.awesomefoundation.org/en/projects/52670-bibliocicleta)

So, here we are. I know I always say I don’t have time for writing ff but well, I wrote it down in an afternoon, more than a month ago, and I was waiting to give it to you on a special day. And then again, as these beautiful shirts we’ll wear when we meet will say… there’s always time for ShumDario ;)
Also, thank you so much my own little Clockwork Angel @dust-and-shadxws who had the patience to read it all through and correct what has been my first ff in English.
And, since Cassie seems to always publish a list of the songs she’s been listening to while writing her books, maybe I could do the same… I wrote this listening to a continuous loop of War of Hearts and I Get to Love You, literally all the time. So inspirational.
Okay then, this is a little birthday present for my parabatai @malecandklaine. Hope you have a day as awesome as you, you little parababitch. Love you with all my heart♡
“YOU’VE BEEN SO SAD… I DIDN’T KNOW.”
“Thank you everyone for the tremendous response! I promise I’ll be the best Alec you could ask for.”
Matt had been glad he had got the part. He would really do all his best to portray Alec Lightwood perfectly. As far as he knew, his character was in love with a warlock called Magnus Bane. That was fine, he had kissed boys before. It was all part of his job.
And then he got to know it would be Harry who would portray his boyfriend. He knew him from some previous jobs and he seemed nice. The day they met on the set they immediately understood that they had something in common: they both loved their characters, and were going to try their best to portray them properly. Let alone shipping Malec, but, after all, who didn’t? It was all fiction anyway.
The day Matt first saw Harry playing his part, he couldn’t help but admire him. He seemed to be a completely different person now. Everyone else said that too, that they didn’t see Harry when he was playing Magnus. That he was a great actor. Yes, Matt thought, he is surely great.
They started shooting, and the first times were the worst, as it always was. It took them some time to get used to their new characters. At the beginning, all Magnus and Alec did was stare at each other for a little longer than needed.
And then there was the scene at Magnus’s loft, where Harry shushed him. This wasn’t in the script. He had improvised. A rush of emotion suddenly went all through Matt’s body.
Don’t be silly , he told himself, he’s just acting . That was it, Harry had just gotten into the part very well. That was what Magnus would have done, that was all. Plus, none of it should have been giving him any strange feelings, improvised or not. And yet he couldn’t help but remember a moment shortly before, when Alec had given Magnus his energy. He remembered Harry’s head laying on his chest, and his sweet eyes looking at him, totally opened, totally vulnerable. And he remembered Harry’s laughter behind the scenes, still leaning onto him, and the warmth he had felt deep in his heart that moment.
Days passed by, and one by one each scene was filmed, each one putting them a little closer. Putting Alec and Magnus a little closer. Alec and Magnus, not Matt and Harry , he kept repeating to himself.
This often happened, of course. You fell so deep into your character that their feelings ended up feeling like your own. Only that he had always been able to discern between them and let the ones that weren’t his own show only when playing. Now he wasn’t any more.

And now here he was. The wedding scene, the one all the fandom would be waiting for. Perhaps they should have practised the kissing part once or twice before shooting, but no one had believed it to be necessary. They all knew how they were when it came to their characters. Matt-and-Harry, all the cast said, as if they were just one person. The ones who love their characters more than everything and know exactly what they would do. The ones who actually ship their pairing and give the fans all they need. The ones who would never fail this scene.
‘I can’t breathe,’ Matt said, and the words almost hurt, as if there was no more air in his lungs. He could perceive the others watching him, probably thinking he was so good it was totally believable, not knowing he was actually feeling like he couldn’t breath any more. He tried to keep in mind his line so that he would not mess everything up. He wondered why he felt so nervous. It was just a kiss, nothing else. He was an actor, that had been his life for years. Why should it be any different now?
The woman in front of him was about to place the stele on his hand… and then there he was. Entering the room as Magnus would have, and fixing his eyes on him. Matt just stared. He was beautiful. And he shouldn’t have been having these thoughts.
He tried to clear his mind and swallowed, trying hard to remember what he had to say next, who had to talk first. All of the scene was a blurred thought in his mind. He said something and then turned to face Harry. He remembered people saying they could only see Magnus when looking at him, but it wasn’t like this for Matt. After the impression of the first day, he had always been able to see Harry behind his character, the beauty of his soul under all the make up and learnt-by-heart lines. He took a moment to think about what he was going to do next, then stepped down and waited another second, trying to calm down. He could see the light in his eyes, and under the demanding expression of Magnus there was Harry, waiting for him to come and kiss him, as frightened as Matt was because this scene had to come out perfectly, they owed their fans that.
And then Matt covered the distance between them, saying his lines without even noticing, and when he finally reached for him he pulled him closer, digging his lips into Harry’s mouth, and the world stopped. Just then he realised he had been dreaming of this moment for a long time. He had been wondering how his lips would taste, how that long awaited kiss would be. He reached for more, wanting him to get closer and closer, wanting that moment to never end, and when he understood what his feelings were he suddenly froze and broke the kiss. That wasn’t in the script.
Harry leaned in expecting more, confused by Matt’s reaction, and he thought the scene would be shot again and everyone would know why had he broken the kiss. Harry was in front of him, expecting him to resume the kiss, and Matt could see every single part of him, every single shade of brown in his deep eyes, and all he could think about was that for one more second, he would be able to breath the same air he breathed. He leaned in violently and kissed him hard, again and again, and if it had been beautiful before it was painful now, knowing he had never felt this way about kissing someone, knowing there was far more than a good portraying behind his feelings, and that it all would be over in less than a second and he would have to act as if nothing had happened.
They parted, and Matt kept his eyes closed for a little longer. He didn’t want the moment to end, he didn’t want to be woken from that magical, magical dream. He eventually opened his eyes and there was Harry, and he was smiling at him, that smile that was soft and reassuring and made Matt always smile in return. A smile full of love.
‘You never cease to amaze me, Alec.’
Alec. Of course. He was smiling at Alec, it hadn’t been real.
‘Yeah. What did I just do?’
He hardly remembered his line, but it was easy, because he meant every single word.
What had he just done?

After that episode, it was all a confused mix of promos, and Malec shippers screaming, and livechats, and re-watches, and more Malec shippers screaming. They surely had liked the kiss. Matt had too. Not that he could ever admit it. Everyone had congratulated them for their good job, and they had just smiled and humbly accepted the congratulations.
And then one day he heard it. The fandom had given them a name: Shumdario. It always happened that fans gave all the actors funny pairing nicknames, and it had always been funny, until now. All jokes were funny until there was some truth in them.
Every time he was in Harry’s company he tried to act as if nothing had changed, and he did it quite well, that was his job, after all. He could keep pretending until the show was over and he never saw him again. Or maybe his feelings would just fade with time.
Or maybe not.
Strangely, it wasn’t that hard to be with Harry. He had this way of making people feel at ease and talking to them as if he had everything to learn from them. They laughed, and went to interviews together, and as hard as Matt tried, he just couldn’t keep his eyes out of Harry when he was talking, eyes full of admiration, disbelief for being so near to someone like him, and love, especially love. He heard people talking about that, and he knew they noticed, but no one else would believe it, after all everyone made things up all the time.
They were happy, the show went on, and they became good friends. The first time he saw Harry dancing on set, Matt had to get out of the room to calm himself down. After a few times, he got used to it and just smiled. Harry was one of those people, Matt had soon learnt, who couldn’t stand still when the music played, he had to stand up and dance. And God only knew how well he did it. Sooner or later they were probably gonna shoot some scene of him dancing, Matt was sure. He had too much talent to be ignored. And when that day came he really wished he wouldn’t be in that scene, because he wasn’t sure he could make it through.
One shoot after the other, kissing slowly became a thing they ended up doing quite often. Every time was different, still the feeling was the same: that bittersweet knowledge that they were kissing just because it was written on a piece of paper that they had to do so. That it meant nothing to Harry.

And finally the day came. It was the last episode of the first part of season two, and they were gonna take a break after filming. This was the day their characters would confess they loved each other. A part of Matt had hoped they never did so. Kissing was a thing, it didn’t imply feelings. But saying it out loud…
‘Magnus, I – I love you.’
The words came out of his throat hoarsely. His eyes were fixed on Harry’s. He had looked away for a moment before saying it, looking for the courage to say that fictional words that held so much truth. But once he said it, he didn’t look away. He wanted him to know, he didn’t think he could conceal it any more. He looked at him in the eyes and tried to communicate with that all he felt, all he had felt since they had first met, the way the very sight of Harry could light up a smile on his face, how his loud and sincere laughter always warmed him up, the way every day he woke up begging to have another moment alone with him, even if it hurt more than not seeing him at all, even if it was teasing and exhausting to have him close every single day and have to pretend he felt nothing at all. And he was so exhausted now.
Maybe if he hadn’t been, he would have tried to hide the despair in his eyes. He knew Harry would be able to tell whether he was pretending or not. He knew him so well.
He waited for the answer, but first Harry shook his head slightly, as if being sorry for him. As if understanding what he felt but being unable to return his feelings. It was as if the whole world had just gone in pieces.
‘I love you too.’
Here it was. Four simple words, yet capable of making the world come together again. Matt just stared at him for a moment longer, wishing to find in his eyes any clue that he meant what he had said. And then he kissed him, sadly, desperately, and broke the kiss and hugged him tight, closing his eyes to enjoy the moment fully, to enjoy being so close to the person that had made him know what love was. He smelt Harry’s cologne, and felt his breathing on the shoulder, and tried to keep the tears away while the shooting was ending.
Matt left the set while the others were still discussing about the next scenes and didn’t look back to see if Harry had noticed. His heart was beating so fast he thought he could hear it. He halted suddenly. Without even noticing he had made it through half of the set and was now in Magnus’s loft. He took a deep breath and looked around.
He was in the exact point where they had kissed after the first date. He remembered that kiss clearly as if it had been yesterday. This had been the sweetest of them all, and the one he liked to remember the most. And there was the door and the entrance to the “bedroom” where Alec had said he wanted to take the next step. He had kissed him recklessly then and they had disappeared behind the wall, where the cameras had quit filming and they had been alone in a room. Of course it wasn’t a bedroom, there was nothing behind the wall. But it still had felt quite intimate. Outside people were shouting smutty comments and Harry had laughed, and Matt had tried to laugh too, as they emerged on the set once the cameras were off.
There was also the couch where he had been laying when Magnus had kissed Alec to try to wake him up. It had been the hardest scene of them all, Matt had barely managed to remain still when he’d felt the gentle brush of Harry’s lips against his skin. And then there was the balcony, which held another bunch of memories entirely. There had been the kiss when they were casually making out, which had been so intimate, having to pretend it was something usual. And then there had been that scene where Harry was shirtless, and he had even got to touch his arm. Matt preferred not to think about that right now.
There were so many memories held in that place. His heart was a tangle of feelings he could no longer recognise, too strong for him to bear. He put a hand on the table, as if leaning on to it because he was unable to stand up by himself, and tried to calm himself down. How long would he have to go on like this? How long would his feelings just grow and grow until they were so evident Harry would look at him disgusted? He knew he had let too much show today, but he could only hope people would take it as Alec’s feelings.
He had loved before, of course he had. He had loved his girlfriend, and other girls before her. But that was in his before-Harry life, before he had learnt what love actually was, before he had felt a love so great it could just have burned him down if things went on like this for a second longer.
He suddenly heard a door creaking behind him and someone entering the room. He didn’t need to turn to recognise the sound of his steps.
“Matthew.” said the man who stood behind him. His voice was deep and soft and held the sound of all that was beautiful in this world. Matt turned to face Harry.

Harry looked at the man in front of him. He seemed so vulnerable. He had liked Matt since the first day they met, and the feeling hadn’t but increased with time. Matt was innocence made into a person. Fans may have known for talking about pumpkins or plants, but it was just a little part of all the cute and silly things he was talking about all the time, which strangely seemed so important to him, as if he had nothing else in his mind. Sometimes Harry would just sit down and listen to him for hours, and every time Matt smiled, that wide and full of light smile of his, he couldn’t help smiling back. He didn’t remember the exact moment when he had known he liked him more than a friend would have, but by now it was the only thing he knew for certain.
And still he had hidden his feelings, afraid to frighten him. Matt was just so pure, he didn’t want to take it away from him. His love was not a burden for him to bear. So he had just kept his feelings deep inside, and watched as day by day his heart beat faster when they were close. Each kiss was a soft stolen moment of pleasure, and he told himself he shouldn’t have felt this way, but he couldn’t help it. And the way after every kiss Matt kept his eyes closed a little longer, as if recovering from the emotion, Harry found it so lovely his heart melted every single time, and he couldn’t help smiling softly, as if reassuring the boy he would always be safe with him, even with his eyes closed, all messy hair and vulnerability. And the way Matt slightly pressed his nose too much, as if falling completely onto him, lost in the spur of the moment.
Harry tried to shake that thoughts out of his mind. Portraying two characters who loved each other so much had changed the way they saw the world. It had always been easy to recognise that slight line between fiction and reality, easy to separate real feelings from fictional ones. And then Matt had come into his life, and everything had turned upside-down.
Harry didn’t remember anything as hard as hearing him tell him that he loved him, and looking at him in the eyes, just to find so much love and despair. He did seem desperate, even now, holding on to the table as if it were the only thing preventing him to fall to the ground. And Harry could bear everything, but not Matt suffering. Not when he knew it was because of him.
The man tried to look calm and explain himself. “I – I was just…”
“I know.” Harry interrupted.
“You know?” Matt asked, and the words came out more hopeful than they should have, while he still looked totally scared.
Harry slowly walked forward until he was in front of him. It could have been just another shooting, only that it wasn’t. Now it was Matt and Harry, only the two of them, no cameras and no script, just two boys afraid of showing all the love for each other they were holding inside. Matt’s eyes were not Alec’s deep blue ones and Harry’s were not cat-shaped like Magnus’s.
Most of Harry’s make up had been removed and Matt could see him as he really was. Harry knew he was letting his feelings show as he had never before, but he couldn’t conceal them any more. Matt’s eyes were wide, looking at him in astonishment, hazel and bright, letting the light of his soul shine through.
“You know what season 2b will be like, after that.” Harry said, trying to make his voice sound casual “I thought maybe we could – make some practice. So maybe next time we kiss you will not crash my nose.” he laughed a little, and he saw Matt’s face widen with relief.
Matt didn’t answer, he just opened his mouth twice and then closed it again, unable to find the right words.
“So you – you…” was all he could stutter, and Harry found it so lovely.
“So I,” he said “was thinking that since the fandom has been asking for a Magnus initiated kiss for so long…” he came closer to him, so that the dimly lit loft totally disappeared from his sight and all he saw was Matt, Matt’s face, Matt’s astonished smile, Matt’s bright eyes.
And then suddenly the distance between them wasn’t there any more and their lips were touching, their feelings a rush of emotion that ran between them, kindling their hearts on fire at the thought that it was real, that it was happening, after all this time, after all this longing. It was a sad kiss, full of need, and it was almost painful, the pain of all these months of uncertainty, that pain deep in their hearts that told them not to believe it, because it couldn’t be real.
They parted to take a breath, and this time Matt immediately opened his eyes, wanting to look at Harry and know what he was feeling. He found him staring back, no smile on his mouth this time, just the quiet fear of rejection, the fear that in all that mess that their feelings were he could have done something wrong, could have broken something forever. Now it was Matt’s turn to reassure him.
He smiled, wide and bright, and dared to put a hand on Harry’s cheek, slowly touching him as if making sure he was really here. And then he pulled him closer and kissed again, eagerly and passionately, and he felt Harry’s body relax as did his. He gently opened his mouth and Harry let him in, placing a hand on his waist to bring him closer while running the other through his black hair. Every single part of them seemed to fit perfectly now that it was true, now that everything was clear, as if their bodies were just two halves of the same thing, of the same love, of the same soul.
And suddenly the pain in their hearts dissolved, as a gentle warmth went all through their chests and they deepened the kiss, hands wandering over bodies, fulfilling the desire that for so long had consumed them, making them feel so light as they never had, even if they knew it would not be easy, even if they knew there was so much to fix in their lives outside that room. All that mattered now was that they were together, and they couldn’t help but smile at the thought of all the casual intimacy and little kisses they would have to play, and how it wouldn’t hurt any more now that everything was clear.
And they had never been more sure about anything. They belonged together.

[ kinda turned into a Parabatri appreciation post, but that’s just even better ‘cause the three of them together are the best ]
Harry and Isaiah letting Matt ramble about whatever he wants AND as long as he wants: this whole video basically (this is also the most iconic Parabatri interview ever)
And while he is speaking so passionately, Harry and Isaiah are just looking at him with a fond expression on their faces. There’s soft smiles too. In conclusion, Harry and Isaiah are just as endeared by Matt as we are.

The question is not that audiable, but I guess it has to do something with Malec being an interracial couple based on their answers. Matt listening and paying extra attention to what Harry is saying. Then they are looking at each other. Matt is directly talking to Harry, kind of asking for feedback that he is saying the right thing. Harry nodding a little, and when he starts to talk again Matt is looking and him and paying attention to every word he is saying again.
They are generally always looking at each other when they are talking about LGBTQ+ representation and the importance of it, making sure they are saying the right things. They care so much, and I love them so much.

(Isaiah asking what the term “queer” actually means because he genuinely wants to know more about the community just warms my heart. And Matt and Harry paying attention to the answer as well. We love true allys.)

They were asked about how are they dealing with the pressure of playing a couple that means so much to so many people. Matt pointing at Harry to answer first, and keep looking at him. (Harry mentioned that they did research, and they discussed and talked a lot about Malec with each other.) Harry also pays attention to what Matt it saying.
Matt: “We just wants to do what’s right for the most people, to make lives better anywhere we can.”
When Matt using his mischievous tone or just making a funny face, it brings Harry’s little cute smile out every time.
Harry: “The three of us are so different, but we have so many little things in common.”

PT1. Shumdario's Friendship Appreciation

[ disclaimer: 1. English is not my first language, so please excuse possible grammar mistakes. 2. These are just my opinions/thoughts. 3. And lastly, this post will be probably messy and all over the place! ]
Let's go back to 2015; neither Harry and neither Matt knew the other prior Shadowhunters. Dom, Kat, Matt and — I believe — Em were the first ones who got casted, the others a little later.
I assume the first time Matt and Harry actually met face-to-face was when the whole cast (minus Alberto) had dinner together.
Matt and Harry probably didn't had that much time to get to know each other, because there was like only a couple of days (or maybe weeks Harry got the call that he got the job two days before he started filming) before they started filming together. (Wanted to add that they didn't had a chemistry read.)
During S1 they — obviously and naturally — get to learn stuff about each other. (Matt became Harry’s no.1 fan)

(I saw somewhere on Twitter that they also sat down and consulted with people from/about the LGBTQ+ community during the filming of S1. And both Harry and Matt said that they always talked about the scenes with each other and with the director/producer before shooting them.)
It's a sad fact that most actors who are portraying same-sex relationships are often awkward around each other in real life, and when the show is over they won't stay in touch that much. It's mostly because of the "fans" who ship them irl and harrasing or making their irl partners uncomfortable. And because it's just uncomfortable when they try to force you into being with someone who you aren't interested in that way. Example: Darren and Chris (Glee)
(note: I'm glad most people in the Shadowhunters/Malec fandom are respectful and don't ship the actors in real life. I can't say that about Clace shippers by the way.)
I do believe that they talked about this and made sure that they are on the same page and that everybody is comfortable. Also, I do think that they talked/talk a lot in general; about Malec, about personal stuff, about anything.
Just quickly want to mention that Harry was and still kind or shy and introverted. He seems to get nervous in front of a bigger crowd in long interviews (In comic con panels he usually isn’t saying much exept when someone ask or speaks to him directly. In the BUILD interview he was moving/bouncing his legs a lot). And in shorter inteviews - if he is not in the mood - he isn’t always cheerful and loud.
I wanted to mention this, because despite those things, he was the one who made sure that there wasn’t awkward pauses, or jumped to answer questions if nobody did, in the cast’s very first Comic Con. Since he was more experienced with interviews and public attention in general, plus he already did Comic Cons with Glee before. Most of the cast never worked in TV shows before, or never did much acting at all (Isaiah and Harry are the most experienced), so they needed to get used to it.
(You know that feeling when you aren’t that comfortable with doing something, but gonna do it anyway because you already know how to or have experience in it, you take the lead so your friends can be more comfortable.)
In the earlier interviews Harry and Matt did together, Matt always drank a lot, played with the cup, with his hands, with the paper on the table or with a pen. He was obviously a little nervous. His eyes were usually focused on the table and he looked up when a question was asked, then looked at his hands (or at Harry) when he answered. (I noticed that Matt isn’t looking into the interviewer’s eyes - or people who he don’t know in general - for longer than a few seconds most of the time. But on the other hand, he likes to stare at people who he is really comfortable with.) When he finished speaking he looked at Harry sometimes
But even then, they paid attention to each other, and if one of them couldn’t find a specific word or paused for a while, the other helped out and finished the sentences or added something so the answer would be answered and they can move on to the next one. It’s still a thing between them when it’s only the two of them in the interview.
They also have this nice dynamic in interviews in general:
they take turns to answer the question
they aren’t speaking over each other
they are finishing the other’s sentences or adding something at the end
they seems to know what the other wants to say
Harry: What’s the percentage?
Em: Of what?
Matt and Harry: ..of fault.
Harry: Give me some numbers here.
Matt: Yeah
(On the contrary, watch this interview with Dom and Matt. Dom is the first to answer every question, completely overspeaking Matt, and hardly let him talk.)
Overall, the mutual respect and trust is there since the day they first met, and in my opinion it’s a really importat thing in a friendship.

“I have to say, I have always admired Matt and Harry for how they crafted this relationship. And the care and the time and the effort (...) [they put into, and how] they created each character and the relationship together, and the journey. That’s why it’s so beautiful, and that’s why (I think) so many people connect to it. Luke: I don’t know, but it really interesting.. seeing Harry playing Magnus without magic. This episode was so cool.

Kat: We were creeping in a hallway one time, and he had to stop me “wait, Clary!”, and I go “what?”, and he turns me and goes “I just saved 15% on car insurance��, and I’m like.. it threw me off so much.
Maxim: I loved your *pointing at Harry*, I liked you.. [Isaiah: Me too] and Alec in the last scene.
Isaiah: When (you said) something unlocked inside you.
Maxim: Yeah, That was very.. sensitive. It was beautiful.

“I love working with Matt and Harry because they are so fearless as actors and always welcoming to me as a director. They are both aware of the importance of Magnus and Alec’s relationship to the Shadowhunters fanbase and to the world beyond. (...) My fondest memory is when we rehearsed the hug scene in 3×07, Harry pressed his head against Matt’s and it broke my heart. We shot Harry’s side of the hug first and I reminded him during the takes of that beautiful gesture.
