Cory's MK Reading Guide
TLDR A selection of pre-volume one, all of volume one, some 2006-2009, some 2014, all of Lemire/2016 and MacKay/2021.
Big shoutout to the subreddit's organization. Here's their reading list, collected editions, and their big spreadsheet of appearances.
Tumblr media
There are currently 4 omnibuses with a 5th on the way in Spring 2024. The omnis are: part 1 and 2 of the original volume 1 (including the initial Werewolf By Night, team ups, and solos), part 1 of MS: MK, and 2006-2009.The second half of MS: MK gets its omni in Spring 2024.
Or if Epic Collections are your speed/budget, there's those. 21st century comics have their trade paperbacks/collections as well.
Read more after the cut.
Pre-Volume 1 still holds up, the important ones listed in bullets below.
Werewolf by Night #32 and #33 (first appearance of MK and Frenchie)
Marvel Spotlight #28 (first appearance of Grant, Lockley, Marlene, Gena, Crawley)
Hulk Magazine #13-15, #17-18, #20-21 (they're the backup stories, so if you search and read by Hulk, scroll halfway through the issue. Random trivia includes serial killer Rand Spector being published before Khonshu was even established)
Marvel Preview #21
MK (1980) #1-38 (volume 1) first began with Moench and Sienkiewicz. Steven Grant the writer also did a lot with character work. Zelenetz wrote The Backstory with #37-38. The run is continues what Moench set up in Marvel Spotlight and Hulk with MK, Marlene, Frenchie, Gena, the boys, and Crawley take on and explore Corruption in NYC. If you want to understand really anything, you have to start here. While there's fair amount of ableist language tossed around, the system is at their best working together.
MK: Fist of Khonshu (1985)/volume 2 is unpopular (I'm so sorry, Zelenetz. You did make it interesting!!! You took risks!!!) but #6 is great. So, read #1 to see what's going on and #6. There's a lot of hokey stuff and an added supernatural element with Priests of Khonshu.
Marvel Fanfare (1982) #30 aka "Real to Reel" is one of my favorite issues of MK ever. Marlene, Steven, and Marc/MK discuss important issues (with minimal clothing) while the plot discusses man's impact on nature.
West Coast Avengers is slid here. Time Travel Shenanigans, the actual establishment of Khonshu beyond "that statue," and kissing Tigra. :) Sadly, MK was only around for a little while (#21-41) in the grand scheme of things and his tenure is cut between 3 different Epic Collections.
MS: MK (it technically isn't volume 3) is 60 issues and it gets borderline unreadable about halfway through. Seriously, they didn't reprint it until very recently. That being said, the first half has some great stuff. So honestly, read a few stories from it, get tired, and know he dies at the end. I recommend "Trial of Marc Spector" (#15-18) and "Scarlet Redemption" (#26-31). Then read Resurrection Wars (volume 3) and High Strangers (volume 4) - both are 4 issue minis by Moench in 1998-1999 because they killed his boy.
MK (2006/volume 5) is 30 grimdark issues. The first 13 issues are usually all I can stomach. Marc gets injured, kills Bushman in an extremely violent way, and has substance use issues. He also is extremely violent, lashes out/pushes away his original cast. While the run shot MK into being Memorable and Relevant in this new century, the hit to his rep and mental health was A Lot.
Vengeance of the MK (2009/volume 1 of VOTMK): The most Marc acting Jake in existence, coming back from a stint in Mexico at the end of MK 2006. Some retcons. It's lighter compared to the shit you just read. Read it for Tiny Khonshu.
Secret Avengers (2010) #19 is one of the only issues with decent MK. The rest is ableist or he's not really there.
Shadowland: MK does some retcons I like but also Randall comes back and does violence against women (Marlene) for manpain so it also sucks. It's 3 issues that tie in to the Shadowland event so.
MK (2011/volume 6) by Bendis. Don't read it. MK is in LA for Reasons. Steven and Jake are replaced by Cap, Wolvie, and Spidey and it's leading up to an Ultron event.
MK (2014/volume 7): Marc's back from LA. Introduces Mr. Knight. The strongest parts are where the story is wrapped up in one issue. #5, where Mr. Knight takes on an entire building to rescue a kidnapped girl, is the best. It's also kinda out of print because of Ellis' misconduct.
MK (2016/volume 8): Lemire and Smallwood. The dream team with additional supporting artists. It makes the most sense if you read volume 1 because there's a lot of references. But it's enjoyable and self-contained 14 issues. Get the Lemire and Smallwood Complete Collection
MK (2017/volume 1 because legacy numbers): The Powers That Be add 2017 to Lemire's run. It's not. Completely different creative team. Stop reading 2016 when issue #188 appears. It's shit. It's ableist, it's antisemetic. Friends don't let friends read Bemis.
Avengers (2018) #31-38. Age of Khonshu only is relevant for what Marc does now and his mental state. It's uh. Bad.
MK (2021/volume 9) wrapped in December 2023 at 30 freaking issues! Written by MacKay, illustrated by Cappuccio and Sabbatini with Rosenberg on colors. It's gorgeous. It's got everything. Vampire pyramid schemes, recovery not being linear, callbacks from essentially everything before.
MK: City of the Dead introduces Layla into 616. It's a pulp. The plot is fun. I don't care for the art nor for Pepose's writing. It's 5 issues.
Vengeance of the MK (2024/volume 2 of VOTMK) literally just started this month (January).

58. Do you have a favorite piece of figurative language you’ve written?, 50. How would you describe your writing style? & 39. What’s your most self-indulgent wip? pls (:
58. Do you have a favorite piece of figurative language you’ve written?
Of what I've written recently I'm probably most proud of meet you in thin air, but oh man. I still look back on my gen pacific rim fic By Myself But Not Alone really fondly just because of the mythos I built out. also shoutout to my longest fic: I'll keep these crooked ways - a fic about a feral ratman and the sentient androids who... fall in love with him. (He tried to murder one of them. More than once.)
50. How would you describe your writing style?
Soft!
but as far a things i *try* to do: be descriptive and let the things people say or do imply how they feel rather than just say that they felt a way.
39. What’s your most self-indulgent wip? pls (:
Depends on what you mean by self-indulgent LOL (all of them are self-indulgent)
a rundown of my WIPs and why I'd consider them self-indulgent
a 5 things that Mark likes about Max fic that's just. listing things that are nice about Patch. feels good to be nice to him. :)
6167 showersex - self explanatory
kole lind as a curse-breaker fic - that's just. I just picked a guy on his team and went "yep, gonna ship that now" and I picked such a random guy that oli was like "did you make this guy up?" And. No. I did not. it's 12K, and it only encompasses (so far) the first twelve hours of the curse breaking process. they eat pb& j sandwiches, they watch Holes. they take a nap. they are about to go grocery shopping. (the original curse was different, but they get proximity cursed)
Mark plays flow free - that's it that's the whole thing. i love flow free. mark is me.
And the MOST SELF INDULGENT OF ALL a rule!63 tyler seguin/jamie benn fic that i may or may not ever finish (it's 26k rn, ffs). self indulgent because
rule!63. i love women
i KNOW about jamie benn ok I KNOW. i can't make myself stop thinkign about it. it's the big brown eyes. I'm a sucker for people (but especially women) with brown eyes. 🥺🥺🥺
i have like four playlists for this fic ok. this is probably why it's the most indulgent, because this was all music i liked in college bc it's set right after i graduated (and i'm the same age as Jamie. so everything is justifiable bc. I was there. It coulda been me.)
need i say again it's 26k??? there's like. SO much of this fic that i need to write. I have SO MUCH tyler POV that isn't even on paper yet. i'll never finish, probably.
they're women - also self-explanatory.
there's a target trip
the target trip is 3000 words long.
tyler buys cups
tyler buys one specific cup to leave at jamie's house to drink out of when she's there
jamie steals it at some point
they yell about the ducks beating them in the playoffs in 2014 using the (time appropriate) "you're no good duck, you'll never be shit" vine.
Jason Demers is the kind of girl who will put mini-kitkats in her own purse for her self for when she's drunk later. She's also the kind of girl who will leave one of them for hungover her in the morning.
jason pegs jordie.
there's so many things about this fic that are just. me id-writing. and all of them are fuckin. lady hockey players. my kryptonite.
see? all very self-indulgent. 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤

How many responses have you gotten so far, if I may ask?
Hello, thank you for your question. I open the Q&A if you guys want updates on the survey or any problems I'm facing.
Currently, there's 380 responses in total. [It was actually 362 last night, don’t know where I got the boost overnight, perhaps that Kurapika post]
Tumblr media
tThere's actually 84 questions in total, but I coded it in such a way that certain questions don't appear when you indicated an option. For example, if you indicated that you are not up to date with the manga (indicating that you have read the post-Election arc AND read till Chapter 390), the questions regarding the Succession arc theories and predictions will not appear. This is why the manga readers' survey is actually longer.
Currently, 149 respondents indicated that they had read up to date, and therefore, they indicated
Tumblr media
Another example is the shippings part. For example, if you indicated you don't ship anything, you won't see the list of ships. If you only indicated that you ship, let's say, het ships, you will only see the het ships. This is to make it easier for people to do the survey. The key is for others to not answer unnecessary questions.
I'd also like to take this opportunity to talk about certain issues/explanations that I need to address.
The reason why I'm always emphasising the goal of 385 responses and above (400 is a good number) because based on calculations. I checked on MAL and that there are over 1.2 million who have watched HxH. The "population" in this case is the total number of people who have watched/read the series. Since some people do not have MAL, the actual population number is higher (currently, we do not know what is this exact number).
At 5% margin of error and 95% confidence level*, the ideal sample size is 385 in populations above 100K, and it doesn't change after 100K.
*I do not really know how to explain this, but don't worry too much about it.
Alright, so I'm at 380, do I still need more than 5 people?
Yes, I need more people. Why? I have three concerns:
1) I said this before, but I need more men/boys to do the survey.
As mentioned, I did not put demographic questions because my country is strict with asking people for personal data. While this survey is casual, I do not want to encounter future complications. However, I can roughly guess the gender composition of respondents because of certain questions and the way the survey was distributed.
Firstly, this survey blew up mostly on Tumblr and there’s a lot of mixed statistics. This says that 47% are female in 2021 and this other article says 72% of women use Tumblr in 2014. Anyway, most of my online (majority from Tumblr) are women and they had actively helped me sent it out to other women who likes the show as well. This same thing happened to my friends in real life.
Actually, this is one of the biggest limitations of this survey - convenient sampling, which is giving the survey to only people that we know. Our friends who may have similar views/interest will get to do the survey, but people that we are not friends with who may have a different view/interest does not get to do the survey. Their thoughts/opinions are not recorded.
Secondly, there are certain questions that makes it easy to guess for me if the respondent is a woman/man.
For example, the “which character do you simp for” question.
Tumblr media
“nil” means they don’t simp for anyone by the way. Also, note that this is just the word cloud diagram. I will chart them manually in bar charts later on.
Usually, when someone indicates a lot of male characters, they are normally women/girls. The ones who indicated Killua Zoldyck and Gon are usually young girls. Of course, I’m not saying men won’t indicate they simp for a male character or something, but yea know, common sense a bit here. The likelihood of someone placing Chrollo being a woman/girl is higher than the respondent being a man. That also same goes for the shipping questions.
The survey is posted on Reddit that consisted of 83.1% males in the HxH area, according to the 1K survey that they had. This helped me boost more people (and possibly guys who do survey). However, I think only about 20 to 30 people did it (based on the boost I got after the Reddit thread was posted). I also had help from a large hxh IG account that had slightly more guy followers to give me a shoutout. I also went to reach out to some accounts whom I know the admin are guys.
I still need a bit more help though, because currently the survey results... I’m sensing that there are more women/girls who did it from the way the results are turning out.
Why is this important?
It’s simple. I cannot just release the results that had an uneven ratio of the gender of the respondents and claim that this is the hxh fandom. It won’t be representative of the hxh fandom population as a whole when there are many cis-men who actually had watched/read the show, and absolutely loved it. I think it’s important to hear people’s opinions, be it men, women, young, old.
Currently, I’m trying to attract more men to do the survey by designing my hxh analyses posts from Tumblr and transporting them to IG, because I realise they like these kind of posts and they get to see my bio profile (with the survey link) + post about the hxh survey. I also get to befriend some of them in the process (and also because I have long been wanting to post my hxh analyses on IG, but it’s just a hassle to make it into pretty poster designs). So win-win.
Of course, anyone is welcomed to do the survey. I just need help with “balancing” it out, so please help me by sending it to your bros, guy friends, boyfriends, fathers etc. Or if you know any social media platforms where most guys dominate, then yeah please send them. Or if you’re a guy, then yea go ahead and try the survey.
2) While the responses are 380 in total, the number of people who have read up to date is 149.
Okay, I’m not saying I need to get people who had read up to date to be 385 as well. Realistically, not sure if I can do it. However, most of the questions pertaining the Succession arc are the most interesting ones and it takes a large chunk of them.
So yes, it will be great to have more people to do the survey especially if they had read the manga so that we can have more respondents in those questions.
3) The 385 response calculation is only assuming 5% confidence level and 5% margin of error.
I don’t exactly know how to explain this, but I will try to quote for the margin of error:
“Company X surveys customers and finds that 50 percent of the respondents say its customer service is “very good.” The confidence level is cited as 95 percent plus or minus 3 percent margin of error. This information means that if the survey were conducted 100 times, the percentage who say service is “very good” will range between 47 and 53 percent most (95 percent) of the time.”
So if you put it in HxH context, with 95% confidence level, and 5% margin of error, it goes like this:
50% of respondents indicated that Bisky is their favourite HxH girl (this one is only one option). If this survey was conducted 100 times, the % of people who indicated Bisky as their favourite girl would be from 45% to 55%.
But if I actually key in 3% margin of error, the sample size goes up to 1056.
Tumblr media
I’m willing to open the survey for 1.5 more weeks. Three reasons:
A) I will wait for more responses of course!
B) I am currently busy with my part-time student research assistant job during summer break till this week, and they are rushing to finish up the research paper. Therefore, it’ll be nice to just wait while I do my work.
C) I am planning to write up the theories that I had included in the survey. This means having a lot of time finding the links/threads to the theories and reading them, making sense of it. I plan to post it and also merge that in my report.
I’m closing the survey in 1.5 weeks because I need time to do up the charts and report by mid-August because I’m afraid I might be busy once the semester starts and I won’t have anytime to do this mini fun project.
Another thing I want to address:
Most of the time, certain options I created is based on technical reasons. The other reason is by mistake.
For mistakes, I went to fix them if someone highlights a mistake.
Now, for the technical reason. I did not appreciate this response in the NOTP section that says:
Tumblr media
The reason why I listed out almost all ships in Hunterpedia, including the ones with a large age gap and the incest ones is simple - because it helps me chart easier when I put them into options. It also decreases the chances of nonsense answers like this one. It also places less fatigue on people doing the survey.  Text boxes are only meant if the options aren’t clear or “others, please state” so that I can include people’s opinons.
The reason why I didn’t do that for the NOTP section is that I was unable to do a certain specific coding. That’s why it ended up as a text box. It’s also based on the assumption that if something is really your NOTP, you’d know and remember it.
Why do people online goes straight to trying to prove they are morally superior and whatnot, assuming that I listed the options because of my morality. You do not know me personally. It is based solely on technical reasons.
This is why I used this disclaimer:
Tumblr media
Which part of this is not clear. You can leave, just like what I said in the beginning. Another thing is not following instructions and being rude about it.
I had also instructed clearly to list out the NOTP combinations. I even noted it clearly. Some people put “any incest/pedo ships”, which happened more than five times. What’s more, one response contained “don’t tell me what to do”.
Yes, I get it, you don’t like these type. But what you’re doing is making me guess everything, which is unproductive. If you don’t like certain ships that are common but a “taboo” like “HisoGon”, “Killumi”, then say that. If you say it generally, I’m just going to assume the ones on the Hunterpedia list.
Another thing is the “any toxic ships”. This is very vague. Often, some so-called “wholesome” common ships in hxh are toxic. Mind you, Killugon is also a toxic ship (let’s not be blind to the CA arc please, this pairing is unbalanced), yet almost everyone perceives it as wholesome. Most characters in hxh are toxic in their own ways, and for sure their canon dynamics if they are in a relationship are likely more toxic than what is often portrayed in the headcanon way. I am wondering what to do with this, I might put it as invalid or “no”.
This is why my instructions are to list them. I had already edited the question twice to make it even clearer yet there’s people who defy them. I’m not just doing the instructions out of fun or make people’s life harder. Those are instructions.
I do not understand why certain people have to feel offended/be rude at an anonymous survey.
I can understand if people don’t follow instructions because you might missed it out and I can help to chart it for you. It’s totally okay, everyone makes mistakes, but I do not appreciate the extra unsolicited comments about me because it implies that you have read them, you just chose not to follow it.
If you think there’s a better way to do it, then DM me. I will explain to you why I had done it so, or I might even change it based on your suggestion. For example, someone actually told me to add certain options and I did it. Another person suggested to add the non-romantic dynamics and I love that, though I think it’s a little too late to add that. Maybe in the next survey.
If you do not like the instructions, kindly exit the survey. Nobody is forcing you to do it. It won’t record your response if the survey is incomplete for one hour.

5 years of the PokémonJesus
Before the night comes to a close, I would like to personally reflect on today’s importance (thus the reason for the Takeover queue). It’s been 5 years since I officially became engaged with this fandom that has really became a weekly routine of mine when new episodes come out. This is really just to put my thoughts out there in the blog archive, so I would prefer if no one reblogs this. P J’s beginnings started all the way back with Serebii Forums...
2013-2014 (The Pokémon forums Era)
Tumblr media
I have been lurking in the fandom as early as the Best Wishes days, and often visit sites like Serebii Forums or tumblr’s Pokémon anime tags around 2011. I usually talk Pokémon online when it comes to the games when battling or trading in certain chat rooms (was really active during the Gen. IV era of games), but never really talked about the anime with. I have been a spectator to the discussion while the BW saga was rolling a long, then I decided on September 26th 2013 (which was the airdate for the final BW! episode in Japan) to create a serebiiforums account under the username PokemonJesus123, just in time for the start of the XY series which I was mad hyped about! I WAS A FAN SINCE DAY 1...some y’all just tagged along in XY&Z NO LOYALTY xD . My serebii profile is still there actually, so you can try to find my old inactive page if you want lol (my avatar was me holding up my 3DS in a cringey way...looking back why tf did I take that photo lol delete later). Coming into 2014, I joined tumblr as well under the url name you see right before you. Never changed it, and probably never will. The origin of this name you ask? You’ll just have to ask me personally for that story 😉 I absolutely joined tumblr out of pure boredom to view and follow blogs I was a fan of. I had no intention of posting whatsoever. Oh, and I made a Twitter account under the P J name too! Follow ME :^)
2014-2015 (Thursday LIVE! tumblr era)
Tumblr media
After a couple months of finally creating a tumblr account and actively posting on serebiiforums and bulbagarden, XY episode 50 (the episode where big lips Nini/Nene debuted) was the first EVER Pokémon anime episode I ever posted about in my blog. I was still new the #pokeani tag (funny story, I didn’t really knew what it meant back then besides to tag it lol), but I got as much as around 30-100 notes. Seeing those notes already got excited that it pushed me from making it a weekly thing since I had a livestream to watch it every Thursday night and screen-cap it. My goal from the very beginning was to try to be the first one to post about here, like what the Japanese fans do on Twitter under the #Anipoke tag. Of course, most of my notes came from either an AmourShipping post or a Serena post. I’m not going to lie, I was really a huge Serena fan when the series first started. I rambled a lot too getting hyped for Citron/Clemont episodes because he was probably my favorite character at the time xD
2015-2016 (A growing blog)
Tumblr media
This was the era I started to do special long posts in celebration with Pokémon’s 20th anniversary. Around this period is where my blog was in a developing state getting like 2 or 3 followers every week. And trust me, there were A LOT of posts that I regret posting, but I learned to watch my words every week and say the right things (I really try not to trigger anyone here). I took a couple of weeks off when new episodes aired since I was really busy with college, or I wasn’t into XY filler episodes that much. Would usually tune in live when Team Flare was involved or anything with Squishy/Puni-chan (I absolutely ADORED Bonnie/Eureka in this arc), but I didn’t post that much on tumblr...unless if there was like an AmourShipping moment that happened xD. The hype for Gen. VII was already looming, and I kinda got bored from the anime A BIT. When Ash-Greninja came into the picture however, I got excited again! Then the Kalos League happened, and the anticipation of Ash’s journey hit a climax! We all know what happened, and the rest was history...
2016-2017 (GIFmaking era)
Tumblr media
So the Sun & Moon anime happened late 2016, and the hype for a new series was within me again! This is when my blog REALLY started to boom, as well as the birth of my Pokémon Discord server PokéTōku. My notes were higher than over compared to what I posted from XY. One possible reason is that a lot of pokeani bloggers from back then weren’t really interested in Sun & Moon (probably because of the animation change), so I was one of few who still stayed for the ride and that really benefited my blog’s exposure. I absolutely loved Lillie’s character development, and I also did not expect myself to enjoy Lana/Suiren’s character so much! Brock & Misty’s was a huge highlight for me as well seeing my childhood come to a modern-day Pokémon series. I was surprised to have popular people reblog my stuff that destroys my notifications per second. I was even flattered when popular pokéblogs such as shelgon, corsolanite, chasekip, and a few others followed me. Back then I really wanted to get a lot of notes, but at this point I just wanted to be myself and post screen-caps that I feel like talking about. The series also motivated me to start making GIFs since I finally had access to Adobe Photoshop through my university’s application benefits. Later in 2017, I graduated from college and it gave me more time to improving my blog. Also, can you believe it took me 3 years to get 1,000 followers? If you asked me from day 1, I would have never expected to get that much since I had no idea about tumblr’s audience.
Everyone here knows that my blog doesn’t really follow “traditional” tumblr methods such as tags or making specific posts and what not (since I’m not really that into the tumblr culture lol...I’m just here for fun doing my own thing), but I hope I’ve brought something different to your dash experience 🙃
2017-2018 (Making friends)
Tumblr media
From 1,000 to 2,500+ followers the next year. You’d be surprise how small that still is compared to the other popular Pokéblogs that joined tumblr later than me, but I’m still grateful for that number. My hype for movie 20 was crazy! I’d always make a post about it when a new trailer was out. But just like Sun & Moon, not everyone was looking forward to the AU it produced. The Let’s Go games shared the same fate as well since everyone didn’t want another Kanto, but I always defend the things that deserve a chance! I fairly enjoyed movie 20 though, and was the first movie that I posted screen-caps and GIFs for in this blog, even made an experience post about it watching it in the theaters! What’s MOST important to me during this time was actually interacting with some of my followers...or should I say friends now :) Out of the 5 years I’ve been here (not counting serebiiforum peeps I’ve known since 2013), I only recently talked to some of you around 2017. My interactions with people here have been awesome (for the most part at least lol) from sharing interests, geeking out over the anime, sending memes xD and concerns when P J isn’t feeling P J. You know who you are, and THANK YOU for cheering your boy up in times when I needed it despite not telling you about it <3 Going back to PokéAni hype, my next excitement attack was when they announced the Aether Foundation and Ultra Beasts were getting involved in the main story. It really makes up for no Alola movie...but hey we still got 1 year left, so maybe there’s hope?
Despite the brief breaks I took, P J’s activeness in the fandom has reached its highest when I managed the time to do scheduled posts and even started a few mini-blog series this year. Even during stressful times, I always make it an effort to find time and contribute to the fandom. I honestly don’t care if I get any asks because I know who the real homies are ◉‿◉つ A special shoutout as well to all the people that joined my Discord server through this website. I couldn’t have reached 100+ members without some of your blogs ^_^ And to the lurkers out there (I know some of y’all are creepin’ in the shadows of my blog without liking anything), you may not know it but I love you people too ლ(́◉◞౪◟◉‵ლ)
Anyway this is just a summary of my journey here so far, and if you’d to hear a more in-depth story on some toxic things I’ve experienced in this fandom just message me. I personally don’t like venting out stuff in public because it just promotes more negativity, and I’m not about that. I will make a separate post on my feelings toward the schedule change maybe next week, and an appreciation post (5th tumblr blogaversary) for my specific followers January 2019. I am still preparing for that because there are so many people (even ones I don’t even talk to) I want to thank ❤ Moving forward into my 6th year, I probably won’t make another post like this anytime soon...but I am very hopeful for the future of the SM series and possible Gen. 8 anime late 2019. I also do plan on making some PokéAni-related stuff in my YouTube channel when the time is right, and have the resources to do projects. Keep your eyes out fam 👀LET’S F’N GO!

Another Twitch.tv rant
So as you know I did a mini twitch rant a while ago but I have a new rant that I want to talk about everything and add more detail and I want to get this off my chest.
And this rant won't be petty like me ranting about Twitch name changes or Streamers using silly AFK screen because that is petty and sad...Real sad.
Tumblr media
So as of late-- Wait
HEY; STOP: IF YOU HATE LONG RANTS OR JUST HATE RANTS AT ALL, GO ELSEWHERE. THANK YOU!
Table of CONTENTS
let's go back to were streamers was fun to be around
Let's fall down the hole
Small streamers get bigger
So what happens after they get bigger
Twitch affiliate and oh boy
Hi there, White knights?
What I learned at the end of this rant
1 let's go back to were streamers was fun to be around
But before I do start. THIS IS A RANT, I will talk about that later. Remember this as this will be relevant, later in the post.
Let's go back to a time where streamers were nice and they wanted to be your friends or the least try to support you and be there.
2013 was a good year to meet streamers and a good year to be a streamer, cause this was a time where people was there to help you out more or less while at the same time, streamers were just trying to find their place on twitch.
I joined twitch in 2013 and it was a good time for me to join the Twitch scene but It was cause of hyper, when I found out he had a twitch, I joined and it was a good time after I started to find my place here but at the time I was SonikGameMaster
And I met a shit ton of Twitch.tv streamers who were small and friendly and most of them were fun and just starting out, I met people I am glad I met and people I regret meeting
Granted, I have met most under the account "SonikGameMaster" which I then later made a new account named "Sonikmage" And met the rest of the streamers, for better or worse.
2 Let's fall down the hole
So, streamers are still being helpful and going to smaller channels to support them and watching them cause as you know. Watching a streamer, chatting, tweeting out their stream page helps out more than you know.
And every bit of help for small streamers is always nice, you make them feel like when they stream, it's not a wasted effort and every small streamer loves to know that their time is not in vain when it comes to streaming.
And this is 2014 where Twitch gave everyone, the host option that can let a caster or viewer, host their streamer of choice, which is an another way to support the streamers you watch.
The idea for hosting was for casters or viewers to host their favorite streamer and join and chat with your favorite streamer while with your friends, This worked for a while then later this Idea was ruined.
Instead of watching the streamer you wanted to support, People would come host but leave after the host. Yeah, 20 + viewers are nice and all but more than likely, they will leave, which at that point feels like an insult in itself.
Tumblr media
You host someone after a stream
But can't bother to stay more than 1 or 2 mins
And you feel hosting is nice, Hosting has value, just not much to it to be honest.
To add salt to the wound, your followers/viewers will leave right after, which makes your Host, A waste of time, which would make someone wonder, why even host in the first place.
3 Small streamers get bigger
To help out smaller streamers, You can watch their stream, you can share their stream, you can host them and stay and chat with them, you can chat with them, give them shoutouts from time to time, you can raid them with viewers, hanging out with them as they stream helps in a way.
You can even make them things, or offer to take time out your day to make them channel layouts or overlays, you can buy them things which are up to you but it can help. Just remember this, as it will come up later.
As the small streamers get bigger, they start to get noticed more often by semi bigger streamers or big streamers which will help them grow their channel which is fine and all.
Their personality changes.
Tumblr media
Their fans or viewers will be there to support them with whatever they do if it is a dumb move or smart move.
Now that the small guys are now semi big guys, they are going to hang out with the bigger guys more than the smaller guys. It makes sense if you stream or hang out with the bigger streamers, that is going to help you out in some way which can help your channel grow
Being friends with a bigger streamer can have its rewards if the bigger streamer is friends with bigger streamers or higher ups or have favorites
But where does that leave the small guys, Unless you are an upcoming Sonic Speedrunner or an upcoming speedrunner which they are going to support them, no doubt,
But for those, who are not an upcoming speedrunner or ex-speedrunner, then you are for the most part on your own.
Which does suck when you have the small guys who go from small to big streamers and it's like, what about the small guys? But hey, fuck the small guys right when you can hang with the bigger guys.
I suppose it's normal when you help small guys become one of the big guys, they will or may change for the worst but then when they have friends and fans/viewers who encourage this will make things worst.
I really do feel most streamers lose sight of their way when their goal is to aim for the top and I don't mind, when people want to do well and that is fine, but don't forget the mall people who were there and hell, did their best to support you when you was still growing.
4 So what happens after they get bigger
Well, let's see what happens, they will have a fan base. They will have an ego, Helping out the smaller guys is not cool but helping out bigger guys is cool and has a bigger payout and you know, bigger streamer need to protect their "Image"
They can't be seen talking to smaller streamer cause that's is just bad to do unless the bigger streamer is friends with the smaller streamer.
As they get bigger, they tend to forget that you are their friend, things you have done for them or tried to support them or nice stuff for them and hell wishing them a Happy birthday, something small as that is just gone and forgotten..
Tumblr media
But will they return the favorite? Like hell they would, If you are lucky, at most they will host you and stay for about 2 to 3 mins, making the host pointless and at worse, they will lurk in your chat for 1 to 2 mins, Not even so much as a hi or hello.
I guess keeping up your "image" takes top priority over everything because you know, watching men and woman speedrun a game then blame said game like an idiot and yell at said game is so much better.
They love that you come watch them stream or speedrun, They are happy to get hosts or get people chatting during streams, getting raided by a small streamer or a big streamer. getting silly gifts or having people saying something as simple as "Happy Birthday" they love that as well.
So you would think, all of this said and done that they would do one of these things for their friends, you know, the small guys. I'm sorry "friends" but to answer, they will be glad to help out but It's selectively on who they want to help out and favorites play a role.
You can be their "friend" as they call you and try to do your best for them but still get shit on because it's a waste of time, it's why I don't even try to bother anymore cause, why waste my time trying to be "friends" with someone who doesn't care to return the favor
Like I said, it's fine when people want to grow and gain more out of twitch and find their place but don't shit on the smaller guys cause you were in their shoes at one time and it does burn and hurt.
5 Twitch affiliate and oh boy
So, let's see.. Twitch lower the requirements that is needed to earn Partnership which can grant a user a subscribe button where users can pay 4.99 to support a stream or pay a bit more to really support them
But to add to this, Twitch also added the "Twitch affiliate" program, where if you can also have 5 or 10 viewers per stream that you can join this program where you get bits which are with normally twitch partners, but they are part of this program.
Think of it as a half a sub button program. You can get bits but you are not a partner so that is a thing. Now this is not a problem but this is not going to help the egos of the big streamers who are not partnered
And I'm sure this will make things worse by giving the big streamers a bigger ego but greedy down the line, but I want to see how this will play out but who knows, things may still be the same
Tumblr media
6 Hi there, White knights?
Oh hi, I am sure someone has posted this somewhere and made this seem like this rant was aimed at someone or "This post is mean and so rude :( It made me cry" or "This person made a rant aimed at me..." Or you were sent by your leader, no questions asked to yell "Why would you say such bad things about my streamer?!"
See, At the start, I said "But before I do start. THIS IS A RANT, I will talk about that later. Remember this as this will be relevant, later in the post."
People tend to hate when others make rants about them and tend to confuse a Rant or vent for an attack on someone, which is sad. Give your opinion on someone, instead of talking it out with themselves, they will get someone else to do it which always backfires and makes things worse.
So I will make this clear as I can. This is not an attack on any streamer, but it is aimed for at a few streamers but you know. "WHY ARE YOU RANTING ABOUT MY FAVORITE STREAMER?!?!" Or something to that effect in caps. lol.
It's funny when you have "Friends" who say, they will be by your side but then turn around to try to tell you what you can and can't say. I love you guys but telling me what I can and can't say is rude when I listen to you say shit I would say no to
They are friends but white knights but oh well, don't get in my way and there will be no problems. But this is the internet.
Tumblr media
7 What I learned at the end of this rant
I learned that most streamers when starting out are fun to be around but when they get a big ego and become a big streamer then you are kicked to the side like trash.
I learned not to trust every streamer I see as it can or will backfire
When a streamer calls you a friend, doesn't mean you are a friend
Big streamers care about being at the top with other big streamers
If you are a friend to a small stream but they get big, you do get forgotten
Streamers of these days are manipulative at times, they will play dirty and will backstab people if they need to get by or get the chance to.
Small guys are fucked over. But some small streamer is not completed fucked over as there are teams they can join.
Do I feel like streamers owe me anything? no. They are not my friends, they are just Twitch personalities to me. Strangers.
My longest rant to date and this has been a rant I been wanting to do for a while now.
And I may be a small guy but at least if I know I get fucked over, which that has already happened, lol. I have great Best friends like Mastakirby, Hyper, Zomb1e Noob, Evan, Tigre and SBC and others. :P
I won't be shocked if I get some dumb tweet from a White knight cause someone misread this post. lol. But that's fine, my blog and I am free to say what I please.
I guess one more thing I can say is, Twitch is like an RPG, You gain followers and you get stronger and you can make friends but once someone is too strong then the weak are left behind and forgotten, till they are needed.
So thanks for reading~

For the Kalafina ask meme ^w^: 1, 3, 6, 9, 10, 12, 13, 19, 23, 24, 25, 26, 30, 31, 38, 39, 47, 48 and 54. Those are some of my favorites lol
youturnitintolight said: For the Kalafina meme, everything you have not been asked to answer!
auctumnitas said: 24, 27, 17, 8
Ughhh, my entire post just got deleted because I accidentally pressed some keys T_T Oh well, here we go again. Thanks so much to @sharkafina, @auctumnitas and especially @youturnitintolight for sending me all these questions. Also, a quick shoutout to @sharkafina aka @kalafinaquips for creating this awesome meme!!It’s gonna be a long post so I better put everything under a cut ^_^
Basic Kalafina questions:
1) First Kalafina song? I had watched some FictionJunction performances before I came across Kalafina so I was slightly familiar with Wakana’s and Keiko’s voices. One day, the PV of Kagayaku Sora no Shijima ni Wa appeared on Youtube and I was immediately intrigued. The music, the lyrics, their voices, their dresses, the overall aesthetics, the drama. I fell for it, hook, line and sinker. There was no going back after that. 2) First Kalafina album? I think it was 「Red Moon」. 3) Favorite Kalafina song? Still Kimi ga Hikari ni Kaete Iku, I’ll love this song till my dying day. 4) Favorite Kalafina album? Probably 「Red Moon」 since it doesn’t have a single song on it that I actually dislike. 5) Favorite Kalafina single? Probably 「Magia」. I love Magia to death, it’s very high up on my list of favourite Kalafina songs and I really love the B-Side snow falling too. 6) Favorite Kalafina B-side? Koibito no Mukashigatari no Yuugure no7) Tough question: Favorite member? It’s gotta be Keiko. I know, no surprise there. Her voice is just the most perfect thing in the world. And I just love her, I can’t help it XD But Wakana and Hikaru are incredibly precious to me as well. I love and appreciate Kalafina as a whole and I wouldn’t have it any othe way.8) Favorite Kalafina look/attire? That’s quite hard. I can’t pick one. I really love their black/gold dresses from the LIVE TOUR 2014 (which they also wore for their CDJ appearance that year as well as their Mexico fotw concert in 2016). Then I am a big fan of fancy Consolation dresses, those were just gorgeous! Also really liked their dresses on Blue Day at Nippon Budoukan. Their After Eden live performance dresses were quite pretty too, very flattering (but I only like Hikaru’s dress the way she wore it during the Type Moon 10th Anniversary Festival).
Do you…
9) Own any piece of merch? By now, I own so much that it would be quite hard to list it all. I don’t really have any clothes (I don’t like buying shirts of concerts I haven’t attended. Doesn’t feel right somehow >_signed white shirt that was given away by Tokyo Girls’ Update but I am not sure that counts as merch. Other than that, I mostly collect their pamphlets, live photo books, posters, postcards and clearfiles. I also own a few odd pieces here and there, things that caught my interest and that weren’t too expensive e.g. a pink Consolation drinking bottle, the FOTW water bottle, Keiko’s Arena Live candy box, a keyholder from one of the recent X-Mas lives, ect…10) Own any physical albums/singles? I own all albums including their two BEST collections, their two Live albums and the most recent Winter Acoustic one. Okay, no, I just realised that I don’t own the Re/Oblivious album but meh, I don’t feel that counts. I have currently eight singles (most of which I bought for around 3 bucks in Japan in either BOOK・OFF or K-Books who both sell second-hand products). I don’t like paying full price for singles unless I know that the song won’t appear on any album.
Have you ever…
11) Attended a Kalafina live? (If so, how many?) Yes, I have attended both mini concerts in Germany at Animagic. I’ve also been to the live in France at Japan Expo (which I found less-enjoyable because everything was so crowded and there were people everywhere pushing against me from all sides. I HATE those kinds of concerts!). My best experience so far was attending both FOTW Special Finals. The concert on Sunday was beyond amazing, @erza-shidae and I were pretty much right in front of the girls.12) Watched any of the shows/movies they have performed for? No, I don’t really watch anime13) Met them (in a greet-and-meet)? I met them twice at Animagic!! And I saw them up-close at Japan Expo. Sadly, I couldn’t attend the signing session at Japan Expo.14) Gotten their autograph? Yup, I own a Madoka poster signed by the girls (and some other artists), I also got their first three albums at Animagic which they signed for me and I have that Tokyo Girls’ Update T-shirt I mentioned earlier. Really can’t complain XD15) Traveled out of your country for a Kalafina concert? Yup, I traveled to Germany, France and Japan. I wish my trips to Germany and France would have been longer but back then I was working so it was quite hard to get time off. Which is also why I missed a lot of their stuff while they were at the conventions. 16) Talked about Kalafina with someone else (other than the fans)?I sometimes talk to my mum and sis about them. But I keep it to a limit because I know they are not really interested.
Random Kalafina questions:
17) What’s your favorite fact about Kalafina? The fact that they love each other and how they are so grateful they get to do what they are doing. Makes me forget about all the fan-hate. 18) Do you have any ships? (Which one if so) WaKei 19) Is there any random, non-Kalafina related thing that for some reason reminds you of Kalafina? Pretty much everything reminds me of Kalafina. I have a great memory when it comes to Kalafina related things, everything they do or say is branded into my mind. So yeah, when I take a walk, I think of Keiko because I know she loves taking walks, when I watch my favourite show TWD, I think of Wakana because I know she likes it too, if I have an egg, I think of Hikaru because I know she is really into all kinds of egg-dishes. The most basic things really. 20) Is there any food that remind you of Kalafina? Chicken and egg for Hikaru, dumplings for Wakana and mint-chocolate for Keiko.
Name a Kalafina song that…
21) You love Red Moon22) You never get tired of Tsuioku23) Makes you cry I hardly ever cry but maybe Seventh Heaven or Hikari Furu24) Makes your day a whole lot better Jingle Bells25) You used to dislike but now love to death Seventh Heaven and snow falling26) You listened to over and over until you got fed up Can’t think of one. 27) Can transport you to another different world with its beauty symphonia28) Inspires you to be creative Magia
What Kalafina member would you choose to:
29) Go shopping? Keiko, because I love her style and I feel like she would be a great judge on whether something suits me or not. And we’d totally buy matching outfits ^_^30) Make pizza? With both Wakana and Keiko because they really enjoy cooking and all of their stuff has looked delicious so far. Hikaru would be invited of course because I know she loves junk food. 31) Show her around your hometown? All three of them. I wanna share everything with them 32) Go to the movie theater? Duh, Wakana of course. No one appreciates a good movie like Wakana. And I feel we have very similar tastes when it comes to movies and TV shows. 33) Play videogames? Hikaru. Keiko is too competetive for my tastes, I couldn’t handle it. I feel like it would be fun to play with Hikaru. 34) Go karaoke? All of them XD35) Go bungee jumping? I’d never go but I think if there was anyone who could make me do it, it would be Keiko. 36) Go fishing? Hikaru. 37) Go to a museum? Wakana because she knows her way around all kinds of museums and art galleries. 38) Rob a bank? I don’t think I’d ever do it but probably with Keiko. 39) Do a prank call? I’d certainly never do that and I hope the girls wouldn’t either >_40) Make a garage band? All three of them41) Go to a picnic? All three of them42) Bake a cake? Duh, with Cakey of course ^_^43) Go to Disneyland/world? All three of them!! 44) Backpacking another country? Another thing I wouldn’t do but Keiko could make me :P45) Re-design your home? I feel like Wakana has a great sense for interior design. I don’t know why, I just think she does. 46) Go to a library? Hikaru or Wakana because both love books47) Help you with homework/tests? I’d never take help from someone when it comes to homeworks/tests (those things are long in the past anyways) but I think I’d accept Hikaru’s help. 48) Vandalize a building? I’d NEVER EVER do that and I hope the girls wouldn’t either. 49) Go to a concert? All three of them ^_^50) Go jogging? I wanan say Keiko because she would motivate me but then I would die so maybe I should go with Hikaru. :P I51) Kill that hideous spider in your room? (Before you blow up your house :p)?Probably Keiko although I feel like Keiko wouldn’t kill it. Knowing her, she would hold it in my face T_T52) Go to a zoo? Hikaru53) Hide a corpse? Keiko, she seems smart with stuff like that XD54) Use a ouija board? I don’t even know what that is. Had to look it up. Ohhh! I see. Hmmm, maybe Keiko.55) Go to a party? I don’t go to parties. So probably Hikaru because she is also not the party-type. We could sit in a corner and talk :P

Apollo, E3 2019 & The Division
5, 4, 3, 2, 1 – Nerds Amalgamated Go! We are here once again with your irregular dose of fun, news, entertainment and educational synopsis that we like to call a show. We hope everyone is surviving the rigours and tortures of university, college, school, work, life, or whatever else it is you do. This week we have another exciting show for you all filled with space, games, and some viewing material to look forward to. We hope you enjoy and let us know what you think, we do listen.
First up it is the 50th anniversary of the Apollo missions and Buck has brought us links to a number of different stories regarding them. Also, some of the myriad events that are happening around the world involved in the celebration for everyone to enjoy.  We also talk about the movies inspired by events and documentaries about the rock stars who ride the bullet into space. What is your favourite Apollo story, movie, mission, or general piece of trivia? Drop us a line or post in the comments on the facebook page.
Next up we look at this year’s less than stellar E3. The major highlight moments were the Keanu Reeves appearance at the launch of Cyberpunk 2077. Where he showed once again that indelible charm that makes everyone love him when people yelled out from the crowd. Why can’t he be the President of America? He would be a darn tooting sight better than almost everyone they have had for a long time. We also take a moment to acknowledge the fabulous Ikumi Nakamura, the director of Ghostwire Tokyo who just had fun. We also take a moment to glance at Devolver Studios and the madcap mayhem that is the ongoing saga of their E3 show. It is still so much more fun then must be legal. The biggest failure was the announcement that Bethesda is making Fallout 76 a battle royale (yayyyy, another one…yawn) in an attempt to save the game from becoming a complete failure (too late).
This week the DJ has the story of Netflix planning a new series based on Tom Clancy’s The Division. The discussion runs through the idea, worrying at the potential failure of yet another game to cinema/television cross over. Further the potential overload of too many post-apocalyptic shows (no, not with zombies either, we discussed that). We do know two of the cast members Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal, so it starts with two beautiful people surviving… or do they?
            This week’s games are:
Buck is playing Assassins Creed 2 (Not Unity).
Professor is still playing Cataclysm: Dark days ahead (Listen in for how he dies this week).
DJ is once again playing Apex Legends
We have the usual list of shout outs, remembrances, birthdays and special events. Hidden somewhere in the show is Buck telling us about a delightful Pug that doesn’t like being licked in return. Listen out for that, we have the link provided, it is funny. Other than that, we just wish to say thank you once again for listening and supporting us. We do appreciate it. Please remember to take care of yourselves and look out for each other, and drink lots of water to stay hydrated. Peace out.

My kids can find 75K plastic eggs hidden outside, but they can't pick up one Lego in the middle of the walkway. #Easter

Step 1: Paint Jesus on an Easter Egg. Step 2: Hide the Easter Egg. Step 3: Yell, "You need to find Jesus!" At all the little children.

It's 10:30 at night. Should I tell my kids to give up on the Easter egg hunt or just let them keep looking?

Based on all of the practice my daughters get looking for shoes, Easter eggs don't stand a chance this year.

Easter tip: Tell your kids you hid an egg with $50 in it in the backyard but you don't remember where. Enjoy a quiet day indoors.

One fun part about Easter is how your kids spend the entire day getting jacked up on candy and then you remember it's a school night.
— Simon Holland (@simoncholland) March 28, 2016
We covered our backyard in candy-filled Easter eggs. My 1-year-old picked up zero eggs and one piece of dog poop. Money well spent.

Serious question. When does the Easter Bunny come by to pick up all the kids he just loaded up with candy? #parenting

Dr. Dolittle, Moon Water & Crazy Taxi
Well hello once again, once again those Nerds have given us another episode full of fun and laughter, so strap in and hang on tight as we enjoy the rid. Please remember to keep arms inside the ride at all times to avoid injury. To start this mad cap episode we have the cast list of the new Dr. Dolittle with Robert Downey Jr. This cast has almost as many stars as the US flag. Will this be just another remake of a great movie, or will it be great? Who knows, at present all we know for sure is the cast is pretty impressive. Next up we take a moment to discuss the presence of water on the moon. That’s right water on the moon, is it H2O or OH, is there enough for a pool to soak away the long dreary hours after working all day as a janitor. Oops, that was the story for Space Quest, sorry. But the presence of water is important to plans to build a moon base for further space exploration. Last topic is about Crazy Taxi and not horrifying us with gruesome violence like the horror movie right there on our TV, called the 6 o’clock news. Sorry, distracted again, but hey, it is an amazing line up to entertain you and is followed by the usual shout outs, remembrances, birthdays and events of interest. As always we would love to hear from you, and please remember to take care of each other and stay hydrated.
