went to to the VDAB (well GTB) again and sat there bawling my eyes out as the nice lady kept complementing me

Shinjiham is cute when it’s romantic but tbh I think i vastly prefer the idea of them being best friends instead. Like, neither of them really saw it coming and weren’t really looking to get another best friend (Shinji has Akihiko, Kotone has Junpei and Yukari respectively) but it happens anyway. Kotone takes a liking to Shinji much faster than she does anyone else and I’d say a big reason is just the fact that he’s so reserved that it allows Kotone to do most of the talking while he just listens and they love this arrangement cuz Kotone doesn’t get to talk about her own interests very much. Though I think some of her needs to talk to Shinji stems from this insecurity that he isn’t happy in the group and she has this people pleasing problem and wants everyone to be happy so she makes a much bigger effort to talk to Shinji. And it’s very unfortunate because Shinji intentionally acts cold and distant because he doesn’t want to form any attachments because he wants to die soon, but aaaaaaaagh dammit this girl just keeps talking to him and being sweet and encouraging him to engage in his interests and share them with the others and he just can’t seem to say no when she’s got those damn puppy eyes. And Kotone is just able to get him out of his shell by being persistent but not in an overwhelming way, she’s very cheerful and supportive of him. And Shinji is able to offer her support by encouraging her to talk about herself and by making sure she’s taking care of herself. They just click really well and make such a positive dent in each other’s lives and it’s all about basic acts of kindness going a long way you know?

Loving the intro posts for the G1! I wanted to add a note about Gabe Kidd for people to be aware. Now I am no expert on mental health so apologies if I’m not explaining this correctly. He has been open about a lot of his mental health issues. Last year? I think it was he called out several people on Twitter to the point that Ospreay asked people not to engage with him and that it was a serious matter
However, I bring this up because a female wrestler called out one of her trainers of emotional abuse as part of Speaking Out and the person she accused Sid Scala was suing her for tweeting about it. And Gabe during all of this accused her of lying as Sid was his friend. Now I’m not here to say whether it’s right or wrong or justified or anything like that. Just wanted to bring that for people’s attention
Thanks for this extra info. Yes, I saw some of Gabe's posts on Twitter during his mental health crisis. I didn't include anything about it in my guide as it seemed like it was a pretty complex personal situation, and one where I didn't feel we had enough information to really know what was going on.
I'd missed his particular comments about the Scala accusation though. I've just looked them up. Yikes. I'd like to be able to put it down to him being in the middle of a mental health crisis at the time (since I believe it did occur around the same time), but also, he hasn't apologised for his comments since his return to wrestling, as far as I can see. And I know how tempting it is to give people a free pass when I'm a fan of theirs, which I'm determined not to do here.
As you say, important information for everyone to know, so thanks for bringing it to my attention.

I've been watching a lot of Omega Strikers guide videos lately and the one thing all of them have in common is that every single one of them highlights the importance of "just have fun".
That's something people say all the time, about any game. But there was one guide I watched yesterday, and in addition to giving that tip, also mentioned the importance of not being toxic and blaming your losses on your teammates.
This is genuinely the most helpful tip of all time. Like this guide really grilled into me just how horrible having that toxic mentality is. The full first minute of the video was dedicated to that. He also talked about how being toxic and playing w that mentality actively makes you worse at the game, period. Full stop. And he explained the reasoning for that as well.
I've heard this said and yeah I believe it as well, but this was the first time I'd ever had it thoroughly explained to me. It really put things into perspective for me.
Hoping I can improve at both Omega Strikers and Splatoon by keeping this in mind 👍

i think a plain language guide to abortion that fails to define what an abortion is, who can get pregnant, and how pregnancy happens is a partially failed plain language guide. for example, this plain language guide does a good job of explaining what an abortion is, unlike another one which barely even made reference to what abortion was. that was one of the things that i appreciated about the guide; i have some problems with the entire document, but i’m going to focus just on the language that it uses about sex (both in the sense of intercourse/its role in pregnancy and in the sense of male/female).
while it used language like “people who can get pregnant” throughout, it failed to explain at any point which people can get pregnant—explaining the role of sex in pregnancy, as well as the fact that only female people can get pregnant and only male people can impregnate, seems like an important detail in a guide that is supposed to teach us about our bodies. that this plain language guide incorrectly assumed was that everybody reading will understand which “women and non-binary people” can get pregnant (what do they have in common? does pregnancy occur randomly?), and that everybody reading will understand what types of sex make it possible for you to get pregnant. that should be seen as a flaw in the document. if you plan to use language that may be confusing to your readers—which they are—then you should explain clearly and early on what your language means.
this guide never defines male or female; in fact, both words are not mentioned at all in the text, despite their important role in reproductive rights/justice, the supreme court decision, and healthcare. no references are made to anatomical or sex differences. “sex” is only used in the context of having sex, and it is never specified that not all types of sex lead to pregnancy.
We say “pregnant people” instead of “women” to include all people who can get pregnant. Some transgender men and non-binary people can get pregnant. Also, not all women can get pregnant.
this is their disclaimer. to me, this isn’t really helpful because it doesn’t explain much to the reader. how is the reader meant to know which people can get pregnant from this? can the reader understand why transgender men and non-binary people get pregnant, but not all women? it’s not enough to say “people who are pregnant” or “people who can get pregnant” in a plain language guide to abortion and bodily autonomy. if you feel like terms like ‘girls and women’ are too reductive or imprecise for your guide, the responsibility is still on you to explain those concepts. even a short section explaining the different roles of male/female in reproduction/pregnancy, and explaining that only female people will need access to an abortion/natal care/birth control, would have been better. even if the rest of the document had gone on with the neutral “people” language, that informational section being included early on would have been clarifying.
i find this part especially poorly done because it’s about abortion and bodily autonomy for disabled people, who already experience higher rates of sexual assault and poorer sex education. among disabled women, pregnancies are 42% more likely to be unintended than among non-disabled women. the fact that this document did not even bother to provide basic information on pregnancy, sex, or sex differences is fairly disappointing to me, for a document that is both geared toward disabled people and supposedly in plain language.
