Sometimes it’s important to know when to let a show go.

When 13 regenerated into 14 and had her clothes burnt off like a witch on a stake, sending a horrible message about women and gender RTD came out and said he did it to protect David from right wing media. Then the fans defended David coming back and that RTD would address why he had that face and why the clothes also regenerated, although I was upset with 13s regeneration I thought ok I’ll wait and see how this get handles. Because even though I don’t like the real world messaging maybe the in world messaging will be enough to make it ok.

But then what happens? We get a trans story for the very first story with very positive messaging for trans issues which is great but undermined by the fact RTD wanted to protect David from gender critiques by the right wing but didn’t seem to want to protect Yasmin Finney. So first David can’t wear Jodies costume for protection but then RTD has Yasmin live through being deadnamed in the show which she herself has said made her uncomfortable and then also gave her character the line of telling the Doctor to not assume pronouns… which any of the characters could have done but RTD chose Rose and then what happen? What always happens with the right wing, the pronoun line and the male presenting line are the ones that the right wing all go on about in every video, in every article… they deadname the character and then misgender and say horrible things about Yasmin… so RTD protects the 50+ year old white man who’s worn way more feminine things then 13 outfit in his career the media could use if they wanted to go after him but don’t protect the 20 year old Trans Woman? How people aren’t talking about how fucked up that is I don’t know.

Then we get no reason why the Doctor has that face and why the clothes regenerated on them. Then in their own regeneration… they don’t! They bi-regenerates and this time Ncuti does get the Doctor clothes, well half of them… why didn’t 15 regenerate with their own clothes? No instead we have the new Doctor walking around with no pants on… and why is it that 15 has to go pantless and not David? are we protecting David again? Perfectly fine to have a bunch of pics of 15 in his tighty whities and no pants but again David could not be seen in 13s full gender neutral outfit.

Then to top all this off theres no mention in the loves lost of Yaz… even though the Doctor chose to drop her off in a park 3 days ago after telling her if they could Date anyone it would be Yaz… is that not love lost? Was saying good bye to Yaz not an emotional trigger? Now people are saying thats because only the dead were brought up… Rose is not dead unlike Yaz Rose is not only alive in another Dimension but also got herself a Doctor… Yaz currently is mourning the Doctor while they cant even seem to remember she existed despite dropping her off 3 days a go… so they weren’t all dead… however Rose was over 1000 years ago and Yaz 3 days ago… what hurts more the lost of someone you loved but who is still alive from 50 years ago or the one you lost last week? What makes logical sense is the love you lost most recently hurts the most… and people dont need to die for you to hurt losing them from your life if you love them.

Now we have 2 Doctors and people are already saying they can’t wait for David Tennant episodes, so if you think the 10th Doctor overshadowed the other Doctors when he was no longer the Doctor how overshadowed do you think the first main Doctor of colour is going to be when lots of peoples favourite white Doctor ever is also a legitimate Doctor in universe existing at the exact same time with a TARDIS? Ncuti doesn’t event get to be the only Doctor during his tenure he has to share it with David.

The lastly no mentions of Yaz at all… seems shes completely forgotten and at the very end the Doctor says they are finally with their family the happiest he’s ever been… what a diss of every TARDIS team ever that the Doctor has found family with… your last crew you literally called your ‘Fam’, the Ponds you actually married into… Susan was your flesh and blood… but no this family you haven’t seen in 1000 years, of which only one of who was part of your TARDIS team are the ones you finally found family with and make you the happiest you’ve ever be? Literally at the exact same time the Doctor is sitting at that table saying all of that, Yaz is mourning the Doctor and not wanting to have left the TARDIS, but she doesn’t get a mention because for some reason if it’s a wlw relationship it means nothing and can be ignored completely.

Honestly by the end the Doctor just seems like a complete prick, and not in a 13 I’m dealing with internal trauma and I accidentally snapped way but just in a I’m a shit person way. Talk about compromised morals, people wouldn’t shut up about it with 13 but the Doctor just left a young woman to mourn them while being the “happiest they have ever been” grabbing themselves a new family and pretending Yaz doesn’t exist. Talk about shit morals. People say Chibs didn’t know anything from 12s era, which wasn’t true it directly affected the way 13 kept the fam at arms length but after watching this clearly RTD didn’t even know what happened in the episode 14 regenerated from 13 in and the previous episode Legend of the Sea Devils, because surely if you did, you wouldn’t not mention Yaz at all and give a reason why the Doctor wouldn’t go see her while she’s mourning them and just grabbing a new family and claiming to be the happiest you’ve ever been in the 2000 years of life you remember. Because that would make the character look like a prick, not a hero, which is exactly what happened. If RTD is the amazing writer people claim, he could have come up with a Yaz mention and a reason why the Doctor wasn’t going to see her.

I know not everyone was happy with the wlw representation with Thasmin but you know what’s way worse? Not even mentioning it or even acknowledging Yaz’s existence.

And to top it off I am so very very over the double standard of the fandom… this episode, had plot holes, had important things that weren’t explained… like why that face and why did the clothes regenerate… things that weren’t explained that weren’t so important like where did the sonic screw driver come from, why can it do all the things it now does… it had racism from both the Toymaker and Donna… what on earth was that line about ‘do you come in every colour’, was paced poorly, it clearly should have been longer and decided to mess with lore by creating bi-rengeration out of thin air and not explaining how it would effect things going forward or why it even happen, like a true WTF… if Chibs had done even one of these things, or wrote this episode the exact same way the fandom would be coming for him instead they are praising the genius of RTD not caring about any of those things, all the sins they claimed Chibs did and some of them on a bigger scale in this episode but the treatment of RTD is the polar opposite.

It’s unbelievably hypocritical, and makes the fandom look even worse for being so hard on the first female Doctor because none of this was acceptable for her but its not only fine but great with a male Doctor.

So I think it’s time for me to let this show go, and know it’s time to bow out. Because unlike the people who have been horrible about 13 for the last 6 years I understand sometimes you have to step away from something you love when its no longer for you and leave it for other people to love.

JWCT PROMPT COUNTDOWN

Jwct countdown May 14-15 -> favorite ship:

There's not enough words to express how much I love Yasammy. They are by far my favorite ship ever and not a day goes by that I don't think about them two. Sapphic relationships are so scarce in media, especially in children's/younger media so I enjoy every one but these two just have a special place in my heart. I saw my cousins watching some of season 1 one day and I just knew that they had chemistry/were going to get together and that's when I knew I had to watch the show. For the fanfic I'm writing, I only have the moments where they don't know each other and when they're fighting but I don't want that to be my Yasammy post. What else I do have is much deeper into the story and I don't want to reveal that much just yet so I wrote this new little scene between them. It's not at all finished but I wanted it to be on time so I'll probably post the full version somewhere in the near future.

Sammy’s heart is racing outside of the airport baggage claim more than it ever has on Isla Nublar. At any moment, Yaz would walk out of those doors and it’ll be Sammy’s first time seeing her in person in a year. They’ve both been busy with school and family so meeting up was virtually impossible. Sure, they’ve texted, called, and facetimed—the holy trinity in long-distance relationships—but for Sammy, who loves to hug, kiss, and touch, it wasn’t enough.

So when Yaz walks out the shriek that Sammy lets out is loud. “Yaz! Over here!”

It’s impossible to miss Sammy’s voice and when Yasmina turns her head, brown hair swinging, her face breaks into a grin at the sight of Sammy standing there waiting for her. Seeing Yaz there smiling makes Sammy smile and soon enough she’s running over to Yaz and engulfing her in a hug.

The impact almost knocks Yaz off her feet but still she’s grinning, hugging Sammy back and pressing her face into the crook of her neck. She inhales and the scent of cinnamon fills her nose. “I missed you so much,” Yaz whispers.

They stand like that for a while but when they pull away it feels like a moment cut too short. Sammy wipes her eyes which have gone a little wet until Yaz cups Sammy’s face in her soft hands and swipes the tears away for her.

Yaz then drops her hand to hold Sammy’s and asks, “Where are your parents?”

“I’m driving us,” Sammy says, swinging the keys to her family’s truck on her index finger. She got her license quite a few months ago but it took a lot of convincing to get her parents to let her drive all by herself to pick up Yaz. They’ve got something against Sammy going to the airport alone; trust issues probably from the time she ran off to Jurassic World. Not one of her proudest moments but it gave her Yaz.

Yasmina’s mouth falls open in surprise. “No way, you actually convinced them?

Sammy smiles. “I can be pretty persuasive. How’d you think I got you to come outta’ your shell?”

I just watched Jurassic world chaos theory and here’s a list of all my thoughts

Spoilers ahead

- LIMB DIFFERENCE BROOKLYN??? SHE LOOKS SO BADASS. I LOVE ALL HER NEW HAIRSTYLES. They’re so much better than the old ones (not that I didn’t like her old hair, I liked it when her roots grew in but I HATED the weird timeskip haircut at the end of cc)

- secondly, kenji getting a taste of his own medicine cause he now gets to know what it felt like to think you were betrayed by your closest friend.

- but yeah, rip kenji. That guy has been through enough. Like, if you put all his trauma in order it’s depressing. Dad abused him, manipulated him, left him on a Dino island and tried to kill all his friends. THEN he tried to make a new shady business and guilt kenji instead of just, giving him info about Brooklyn

- also Darius having a crush on Brooklyn I jokingly guessed AND WAS RIGHT

- New villain is really cool. The way she controls raptors is soooo interesting. I haven’t gotten to see any of the new Jurassic movies (I only saw Jurassic world) so idk if she’s in that one

- I really liked Mateo but I was getting flashbacks from season 2 (or was it three?) and totally thought he was gonna die. He talked too much about his daughter I totally thought he would’ve died and Darius break the news to her.

- DO THE COPS THINK THE NUBLAR SIX ARE DEAD AGAIN??? BECAUSE THEY ACCIDENTALLY (and purposely for some) FAKED THEIR OWN DEATHS WITH THE CAR AND NOT ANSWERING BRAND SHIt

- also Darius was scaring me at the beginning, he seemed really depressed. I had seen 5 seconds of spoilers by accident of him in a bathtub and kenji walking in AND I WAS CONVINCED IT WAS SOME DARK TWIST AND THE SHOW WOULD END WITH HIM killing himself! I know it’s a kids show! But I watched legend of korra… so. There.

- Also at first I was uncomfortable with the way Yaz was being characterized as traumatized the most, but I ended up loving because it felt like a Purposeful Mis characterization only for it to be turned on it’s head. Let me explain, at the beginning us as viewers are told that Yaz has been really fucked up by all the monster attacks, and had to go to therapy in Wyoming. So we as viewers get worried that she’s going to relapse her ptsd after learning they’re being hunted. But while yes, she has normal reactions to Dino’s (fear) we learn therapy actually WORKED and she wasn’t SHELTERED. She ACTUALLY LEARNED COPING SKILLS and ended up being the most well adjusted among them. It was written so well. Because now we see Sammy who we thought was doing well, have horrible coping skills and fall into an anxious attachment style because her parents don’t talk to her anymore, her girlfriend is ignoring her (avoidant attachment kinda) and all of her friends are going through their own shit on their own and don’t talk to her. She’s having panic attacks and struggling, and Yaz got to be able to pay her back for all the compassion by showing her how she handles all the fear and sadness. I FUCKING LOVED THAT. THAT WAS SO GOOD. AND I ONLY REALIZE HOW GOOD IT WAS THE MORE I SIT IN IT. I spread out my watching because if I binged I wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much.

- I also loved that they all represented different outcomes of trauma, and different coping mechanisms. Darius with the survivors guilt (again), Sammy with keeping herself busy so she doesn’t have to think about it, Ben becoming even more hyper vigillant/conspiracy theorist. Etc.

-Sammy was season mvp. She was the best character by far for me.

-She definitely needed to give Yaz her space tho, but I also hated how Yaz just assumed Sammy thought she couldn’t handle herself only because Sammy hadn’t seen her since her breakdown after the Dinos got loose. I loved watching it tho, the argument was so needed.

- I didn’t once think “there’s no way they’d act that way” because they were all characterized so well as trauma survivors.

- the only things I was like ehhh about were Kenji being a climber (since when??) and Ben having a girlfriend 😂.

- I loved that Darius was living on his own and brand was calling a ton because he was worried about him. Because Darius has only gotten MORE independent, his way of dealing with this problems is having alone time and doing things himself. I LOVE THAT AGGHHH.

- I was disappointed kenji had a new voice actor tho. He didn’t necessarily do a bad job, it was just really distracting for me.

- Not with Brooklyn though, I didn’t notice at all, I just thought Jenna Ortega was going something different now that Brooklyn is older. Her voice actor did so well. I loved all the layers I felt in all the flashbacks.

- One thing tho, I would’ve loved it if Brooklyn was actually dead (although the way they handled it made me REALLY believe she was dead, and I was pretty positive she was alive for most of the show)

- I love brooklyn!! But I do think killing one of the main characters would’ve upped the stakes more. But all of the drama and new dinos did that by itself. I felt on the edge of my seat the whole show!

- I also liked that Brooklyn and Kenji broke up. Might get some hate for that but it’s true. I never shipped it. But this show actually did make me like the ship more if that’s insane. Because I do think the dynamic of “we’re both jokingly egotistical and we bring out each other’s worst sides in a silly way”. I also think kenji needs happiness.

- And while I’m disappointed Ben has an off screen girlfriend, hopefully she shows up as a character later. Or they at least break up so he can have his bisexual king moment (go cry about it)

- I would also love mateo’s daughter becoming a character later, like her being a part of Brooklyn’s secret crew to take down the DPW etc. I don’t usually like the new characters super late in a series, but because of the way they’ve hinted at these characters, it makes me want to see them.

- I think she’d be a hacker or someone like Brooklyn just cause of what we’ve been shown of her.

- One thing I didn’t love, was not getting to see a complete wrapped up conflict. Like, kenji and Darius got better but mostly cause the action distracted them from getting to be genuinely hurt. And ESPECIALLY Sammy and Yaz’s conflict, although by Yaz helping her breathe it did kind of solve the conflict without words. But that’s just me.

- I also thought that Ben should be a lot less well adjusted. He’s had A LOT of trauma throughout the show, basically breaking his entire original archetype and replacing it with a new one. His whole character development was going from being scared and being a burden, to getting immensely used to hurting and living in the wild just to survive. When I originally thought of how he’d be out of the island, I thought he’d really struggle getting into fights to solve his problems, (like when he got into a fist fight with kenji) and being a little too wild for “civilization” (school, work etc.) and not fitting in. We also don’t really know why he’s not in college anymore. Did he graduate? Is he taking a gap year? We saw him in a dorm and it’s only been six years. Wasn’t he like, 15 at the start of the show? Well, I guess he would’ve graduated by then, but idk it depends. We actually have a lot of loose ends I want to be explored, like where is Sammy’s family? Why don’t her parents talk to her anymore? Is it cause she’s gay? I thought she had siblings?? Idk.

- tldr, I want ben to have more violent tendencies because he can’t work through his emotions. Not everyone heals in non harmful way 🤷‍♀️

- also cause I want his pyromania to come back idc if it was a facade to protect himself.

- ALSO IM SO GLAD KENJI’S DAD IS DEAD I ALMOST FORGOT

- AND ALSO IM SHOCKED THEYRE EVEN INSINUATING THAT BROOKLYN IS EVIL NOW CAUSE REMEMBER HOW PISSED SHE WAS AT KENJI FOR DOING BASICALLY THE SAME THING? DAMN, HYPOCRITICAL MUCH?

- BUT IT WOULD BE COOL IF HER MORALS ARE NOW MORE MORALLEY GREY LIKE HATING DINOS OR HURTING PEOPLE FOR THE GREATER GOOD

- LIKE NORMAN FROM THE PROMISED NEVERLAND MANGA OR ROSE QUARTZ

- THATS MY FAVE TYPE OF CHARACTER

- That’s why I liked it so much when Darius said “I don’t chase dinosaurs anymore, just one…” BECAUSE IT INSINUATED HE WANTED TO KILL A DINO WHEN HES A DINO LOVER. Him not liking Dinos as much would’ve been badass but also out of character I guess

- it also made me think of that meme from totally spies “I don’t want to kill all the world! Just half! THE MALE HALF-“

- but omg this made me realize… if his boss that he talked to during that scene was talking to Brooklyn this whole time… if brook asked how Darius was she could’ve told her about how bad he was doing and Brooklyn wouldn’t have been able to tell him at all that it wasn’t his fault.

- although… I’ll be real with u… it totally was. When we found out WHY he wasn’t there? Eyah it was his fault 😭💀. I know that’s horrible it say and if I was him I would’ve done the same (just cause it’s awkward and he wanted to give her space) BUT THAT WAS ALMOST INCEL-LIKE BEHAVIOR FROM HIM, WHAT???

- anyways I made a lot of jokes I might copy and paste in a reblog we’ll see

sea devils thoughts. the plot of the episode was middling, the cgi was terrible and everything to do with the sea devils themselves overall kinda flopped. almost everything… apart from the inevitable thasmin resolution.

some people call it queerbait, but i firmly disagree. it’s completely convincing and fully in line with thirteen’s past characterisation: after having lost so many people during her previous incarnations because (as she believes) she let herself get too attached to them, allowing codependency to flourish (even in a platonic sense with the likes of bill or donna) she has set a perfectly lucid, yet tragic mental boundary with herself in her heart of hearts: never again. no more opening up unless there’s no other option, no more letting people close, no more romance that sooner or later turns sour and ends in forced separation, grief and pain. if it was going to be anyone it would have been yaz, but the doctor doesn’t “go on dates” anymore (funny how casual she tries to sound even regarding the language she uses — “dating” sounds impermanent and nonchalant, doesn’t require the commitment and self-sacrificial devotion that every romantic relationship the doctor has ever shared with a companion entails).

it’s no accident that out of all people she mentions River Song: one of the greatest loves of her impossibly long life, one that sacrificed herself in a library all those years ago to keep the flame burning. and the doctor can’t allow this scenario to repeat itself over and over, even if that means barring herself from emotional closeness in the process

she’d rather spare herself the hurt by denying yaz the intimacy they both so desperately crave. it’s a paradoxical act of what is simultaneously extreme selfishness and extreme selflessness, and so, so quintessentially Doctor.

Chapter 1

<<Prologue

Synopsis: now back on board her tardis, the doctor finally finds out just what you are.

After the kerfuffle that was finding the tardis, the doctor placed you down gently. She smiled before walking up to her ship. You could hear her talking to it and it made you smile. She was so strange.

"Mad, isn't she?" Yaz appeared beside you, ready to help you inside. Nodding, you turned to her curiously.

"Have you known her long?" Happy you were now talking, yaz looked your way with a grin.

"Nope. 'Bout two days? We're only here because she messed up a teleportation device." Taking interest, you thought for a minute, wondering if your original thoughts were correct. She couldnt be, could she?

"What species is she?"

"No idea, she just kind of appeared on earth. Crashed through a train actually." Yaz explained, laughed whilst you just looked confused. Upon seeing this the human girl stepped back.

"Wait do you know what a train is?"

"Right, fam. If you lot could just hang fire. I'm gonna take (y/n) to the med bay." Of course, everyone was understanding and waved the doctor off as she took hold of your hand. You felt a little warm, leaning into her side for support whilst she guided you through the new corridors.

"Gotta say, I love what the tardis has done with herself." She grinned, taking in the combined rustic and modern designs. You agreed, finding comfort in its dark interior. Though, after hearing what she had said, you furrowed your brows and looked up at the doctor.

"Tardis?" Your voice was quiet but the blonde picked up on it easily and hummed. Her hand curled around your waist, pressing you against her more firmly.

"Yes. Amazing ship, as you can see it's bigger on the inside. It stands for time and relative dimensions in-"

"-in space." You finished her sentence, leaving her wide eyed in surprise. The doctor pushed open the door to the med bay and quickly got you sat on one of the beds. For now, she was choosing to believe you were just incredibly smart, in order to know what the tardis stood for.

"I'm gonna give you a scan. See if everything is OK. Treat your wounds." You nod, watching her type onto some machine. Soon you realised it was the scanner as, after a quick press of a button, a blue light drew over your body. It was at this point the doctor realised just how exhausted she was. It was all catching up to her. Once the scanner had stopped, you looked over to the doctor and inhaled deeply. Now incased in a dull, golden glow, the doctors hand gripped at the cabinet she was leaning on.

"Doctor." Taking note at the concern in your voice, she gazed down to her hand and let put a noise of annoyance. She stood straight and shook her hand furious.

"Its nothing, Its just-"

"Regeneration energy." This time, the doctor knew you weren't just 'incredibly smart'. No, there was more than that to it. Even if the obvious was staring her right in the fact, the doctor looked at the monitors and felt her breath get caught in her throat.

"Two hearts." You just looked at her nervously, not sure on how she would take this new information. The blonde walked up to you, pressing her fingers to the side of your neck. Making eye contact, you could see it sink it.

"You're a time lord." She breathed, stepping back. Bobbing your head slightly, you looked aside.

"So are you." For a moment, just two just stared at each other, not knowing what to say.

"How did you get there?" The doctor asked, collecting a bag from a nearby cupboard.

"I dont remember. Its fuzzy." You told her, watching as a blue liquid was pulled from the bag along with cotton pads. Before she did anything, the doctor observed you in great detail. As if she were examining you, searching for lies. There was none.

"What's the last thing you do remember?"

"War." She inhaled sharply at your response before smiling sadly.

"Its gone, isn't it? Our planet? It was destroyed, right?" You were sure of it, even if your memory was corrupted at that time.

"Yes. By me." Expecting you to lash out, the doctor was surprised when you seemed relieved.

"That's okay. I understand."

"Okay? All those innocent lives, your family?" All you did was press your lips together.

"They gave me up, doctor." Face softening, the elder cupped your cheek, thumb brushing over it gently. You couldn't help but blush, leaning into her touch naturally.

"This is going to hurt."

"That's okay." So, she got to work and you watched as the bruises disappeared and the cuts scared. The doctor was right though, it did sting. Seeing your tensed frame, she apologised quietly.

"I'm sorry, love. We're done now." Helping you down, the doctor smiled warmly before putting everything away.

"Now then. Let's get you some food. Then to sleep. We can talk more once you've rested up." You agreed, walking down the corridor with her.

"What about you?"

"Oh I'll rest as soon as I drop the gang back on earth. They'll want to go home." You weren't so sure either of those things were true. But you hummed nevertheless. Your eyes were growing heavy, the day catching up on you. The doctor must have seen this, her hand stroking your hair affectionately.

"You'll feel better soon. I promise."

Ah yes. RB 2 Electric Boogaloo, also known as Something Borrowed, Something Blues, the sequel to Reincarnation Blues. I'll be honest, I've barely touched this one since late 2019-early 2020? My whole methodology of writing has changed since then, but somehow I'm still stuck on knowing what has to happen next, but not being quite sure how (or in what order). Maybe I need to try something creative with sticky notes.

I did start rereading this one from the beginning recently, though, to try to remind myself where I was and where I was going, and I have been working on it. Slowly.

Sample:

Where the shiny, modern glass-and-steel building that housed the Stanley Pines Memorial Library of the Supernatural had stood, now there was nothing but a flattened pile of rubble, still smoking slightly in places. Eldritch fire glimmered purple-green in between a few tumbled, broken concrete pillars. Bits of broken glass twinkled in the grass of the park that surrounded it and glittered over the asphalt of the road that passed by in front.

The motorcycle crunched over that glass and pulled to a halt, the woman in front putting a foot down to brace herself before pulling off her mirrored helmet and shaking out her iron-grey ponytail. An expression of melancholy crossed her face as she took in the wreckage, melancholy shading toward despair.

Archie could see why. He couldn’t imagine that anyone could have survived whatever calamity had destroyed the library – and, quite likely, caused that enormous percussive boom that had nearly knocked them off the road, earlier. Whoever they’d been coming to see, whatever information they’d hoped to find, whatever remedy to send the hordes of the undead back to their restless graves which they’d sought – all of it was now buried under the smoking ruin.

“Shit,” the motorcyclist said.

Archie found that, vulgar as her language was, he was forced to concur.

He’d only been staring mournfully at the ruin for a scant few seconds, though, before motion caught his eye. At first, he thought it was simply the smoke, or possibly one of those unnaturally-coloured flames, or maybe the rubble settling. But as he watched, a slender hand burst up through the wreckage.

Archie absolutely did not scream like a little girl. He had just barely escaped a gruesome demise at the hands of rotting zombies that punched up through the ground in a very similar fashion, anyway. If he had let out a short, masculine cry of distress, why – he could hardly be faulted, could he?

Whatever the reason, though, the motorcyclist turned.

For a split second, her expression froze, turning grim as she grabbed a piece of shattered rebar from the rubble at their feet. She raised it like a baseball bat as she took several careful steps toward the hand, which was now groping blindly at the broken concrete around it like, Archie thought a little hysterically, someone searching for a dropped contact lens. “Hey! Are you alive?”

For one tense, agonising moment, there was no reply.

And then, muffled, from somewhere under the heaps of concrete and steel, a voice piped up. “That’s kind of vitalist, don’t you think? What if I was a vampire?”

The motorcyclist sighed, a full-body release of tension, and swung the rebar down into the grass before clambering over the rubble to where the hand was still searching. There was an exasperated fondness in her voice as she started to pull the crumbling chunks aside. “Stars’ sake, Yaz, only you could think of something like that while trapped under a collapsed building.”

The exasperated fondness was echoed in the subterranean voice. “And only you would give me shit for it, Wanda. Hey, are you digging me out? You’d better be digging me out, or I’m going to haunt your skinny ass.”

“Yes, I’m digging you out,” the motorcyclist – Wanda? – grumbled, pulling aside a piece of girder as she looked back over her shoulder at Archie. “A little help, here?”

13′s been rejecting the idea of being known by Yaz for Seasons, she doesn’t let her see in S11, in S12 if anybody (and therefore Yaz) comments that they know her she viscerally reacts to it in opposition. She still will not concede that Yaz knows her in S13 because she feels like she does not know herself after the events of ttc, she is focused on finding out who she is by discovering the puzzle of her past.

13′s acceptance of Yaz’s love in this episode is their culmination and 13′s culmination as a character, it is 13 accepting that Yaz actually knows her as a person and loves her and that this love means that in the end, what she is is Loved.

Yaz being able to be the doctor in this episode is evidence of the fact that she Knows the doctor through and through. Her whole journey of becoming more and more like the doctor, trying hard to emulate her, was proof all along that Yaz Does know her.

At first 13 didn’t want to be seen. Then she’s so deeply depressed and traumatized she thinks nobody could possibly comprehend. Then 13 would have given anything for an accurate picture of herself but was convinced nobody could see it because even she couldn’t. That even if they did see, they would not understand or love her.

But Yaz does see, so very clearly, and she loves her. And that’s like, the linchpin of 13′s character journey in the end. She’s spent so much of her life wondering who she is, or hiding who she is, and Yaz could have told her the whole time.

I am not communicating this well but. Their love and relationship is at the heart of the whole era. I am not one for doctor x companion ships, but damn if this one didn’t get me.

I made a post before about 14 and Yaz reuniting and it being a sad/happy they both immediately apologize thing

But now im obsessed with the idea of Yaz getting space to process that the doctor settled down with Donna’s family

I picture after an episode I of her going back in forth being quietly angry and upset and happy he’s okay and grieving her version of the doctor, she finally gets her moment,

She sits down working on something mindless with Donna (for whatever mission there on or thing their doing) Yaz is quiet much more then normal , she’s angry with her too, jealous mostly but she’s never admit it

“You and The Doctor seem like you’re close” Donna tries to get a conversation going

Yaz let’s out a laugh in spite of herself

“We were”

“Oh out with it then, what happened between you two?”

“You know where The Doctor was, right before he found you again?” She starts slow, choosing her words carefully

“Not exactly he-“

“Was with me. You’ve probably heard about the flux and everything, but it was us, traveling the stars,,,, together”

Donna hums, that was her once

“And then She left.

…

I loved her. Y’know what she told me? In the end? That she loved me. She didn’t say it like that, of course she didn’t, she was never very direct.

she wanted to spend the rest of time with me, she wanted to live our life together.

But no matter how much she wanted it didn’t matter because she couldn’t. That’s not the life of a time lord, that’s not the life of The Doctor.

Every time she’s tried to fix herself to anything it’s ended absolutely horribly.

She was regenerating, dying, changing.

For my safety she had to leave me behind. She lives her life on the run because she’s too afraid of what’ll happen if she stops. Nothing would convince her other wise. Nothing.”

She takes a breath realizing that she was raising her voice

“Except,,

What did you say to her? What could you’ve possibly said to convince him to stop for once? To settle, to breathe, what did you do? What didn’t I-”

She raises a hand to her eyes to stop the tears she feels coming

“Why not me?

He wasn’t looking for me, was he?”

Donna puts a hand over hers, Yaz pulls away and changes the subject

Maybe the Doctor overhears, or Donna talks to him later

Either way they talk and everything works out :)

I've seen so many posts I disagree with over different points about gender and the Doctor from yesterdays episode and it basically comes down to the way the Doctor presents does impact him a lot and he doesn't always remember that.

Until Thirteen the way the Doctor presented was male, his body always was, and that was what he was used to, the privileges that come from appearing male in a human world.

The Twelth Doctor knew this, knew times had changed, and especially in his time with the First Doctor the differences there were abundant, he'd progressed and yes, was beginning to feel himself above gender in the same way he's always held himself above humanity intelligence wise.

Then came Thirteen and the constant lessons over how being female limits, controls and dictates our lives. She called it an upgrade, just like Missy did if I recall correctly, but still expected to be treated the same. When that didn't happen she couldn't hold herself above gender because the times she went to, especially back in time, but often in the modern world too, gender presentation was put in her way.

The Doctor at the point of her regeneration was letting go, and had multiple times had to learn to accept things she didn't know, things she could know but also knew would hurt to learn, and has that pocket watch of who she is, given to the TARDIS. She let go of the need to know everything, understand everything.

And now the Fourteenth Doctor, The Tenth Doctor returns, and it's clear that he's not acting like a newly regenerated Doctor, no confusion, no figuring out who he is, and most importantly plenty of similarities to the Tenth Doctor. Hell the main change is he's more willing to say he loves someone which make sense. He regenerated after admitting to love Yaz.

But Ten doesn't let go.

If the Tenth Doctor went through the things the Thirteenth Doctor has he'd have opened the pocket watch. He wouldn't have accepted a history he doesn't know, not with the answers right there.

You could point at River and his meeting of her to argue that, but Thirteen dealt with an unknown past, not an unknown future.

Donna and Rose's talk about letting go is reminding him of the scenes he lived immediately before regenerating, of how she let herself go for the next person to come. That's what they did too, except they let go of power, she let go of the family she had been chasing and clinging to through her series.

And the Tenth Doctor was the Doctor who built himself a family, even when he left them behind afterwards. Donna spoke about visiting, coming for coffee, almost like the Eleventh did with Rory and Amy, and then with Clara, then Twelth sort of managed with Bill.

Donna and Rose took on the Doctor's up to date memories by how they spoke but they know more than ever that the Doctor is a different person between generations. And this Doctor doesn't understand letting go a lot of the time, only understand major goodbyes so she asks for visits even while it's clear she doesn't believe he'll do them.

Personality not gender is focused on in both these comments.

And the Fourteenth Doctor is already focusing on questions, demanding or constantly bringing up the need for answers over why this face has returned. He's not accepting it, not letting it go.

I got sidetracked a little here, but it comes down to, the Fourteenth Doctor isn't acting like a new regeneration, he knows who he was when he had this face before and is trying to fit that mindset, while being surprised by the things he's learnt in the meantime having changed him showing in his personality too.

You know something I am really sad about is how the TARDIS interior changed for tenteen. It would have been a whole different story if the clothes had been normal but like this? Everthing the Doctor was just vanished and got replaced. The screwdriver coming out of nothing? The outfit? A new fancy TARDIS?

10 kept the TARDIS from 9 and 12 from 11. 13 had to fight to get her TARDIS back and built herself a new screwdriver in the meantime. 11 had to let her recalibrate until she was usable again and gave him a new screwdriver (? I think ? Don't quite remember where he got the sonic) All of them CHOSE their new outfit and had a whole thing where they searched for it.

And tenteen just gets all those things like this, appearing in his lap. Which is convenient, sure, but I feel like he really lost the identification process on the way. Maybe not as important for him as he knows the body and mind and companion already (in theory) but like, I am not surprised he is going through it like this. He just wanted to hang on to Yaz, wasn't allowed that, lost her, decided she was gonna be excited for change, didn't really get change either and then everything they could hold onto as part of their last identity, everything that was theirs to let go off, just got ripped out of his hands replaced with a weird mixture of 'look how new and nice and shiny' and 'isn't that lovely reminiscent of 4 bodies ago'. No wonder they are running on their gingiva*, I would be so lost and disoriented in his place.

And then obviously from a meta pov I dislike that 15 is apparently copying tenteen's TARDIS now. We got a scene of tenteen exploring the new TARDIS and being excited but for 15 he has already had 1.5 adventures with her. And while we couldn't put tenteen into the old clothes it was okay to put 15 in underwear? Wouldn't it have made much more sense to have the weird clothes' thing happen with the mitosis regeneration? (like, I wouldn't have liked that either but it is a little weird how tenteen got a full suit and 15 got the bare minimum)

And I hate how it feels like every part that made the Doctor 13 got erased as quickly as possible. Luckily, there were a few references at least - if no one got me I know the psychic paper got me <3 - and I GET why the fam didn't show up in the puppet show but like, couldn't you have left tenteen the TARDIS interior at least? I am sure Donna would have liked the crystal columns <3

It feels very rtd to have tenteen showered with gifts he can't even want and that are way too much while others are erased or overshadowed by him and get the leftovers.

On a similar note, I was also direly missing post-regeneration haze for both of them. Who knows (well people who have watched the Christmas special, I guess), maybe that's yet to come for 15? But like how are they supposed to function without running about without a clue and passing out every 5s for a day or two?

*German expression, means to be on one's last legs

I bet they never even realised #at least not until much later when they had no clue where it had disappeared to it just got taken from them when they weren't looking #tenteen's whole self is like that ring just that it isn't getting framed that way and hence we don't get to grief and experience the tragic #as what it is #again no time in 3 eps for this sure #but idk it's very tragic to take away from 13 and 15 to give to tenteen in a way that takes aways from tenteen in the end #(maybe rtd was forced to change TARDIS and sonic who knows not gonna yell at him for it but it remains sad and unfortunate)#from the meta pov I am at least glad the TARDIS (and potentially sonic) will come to be 15's that tenteen borrowed since we will see them #together for longer #dw spoilers

yeah baby!

i have watched the tsuranga conundrum and it is SO good!

the bit of banter at the beginning to let us know they've been traveling together for a while and give a longer measure of time to the series!

the doctor freaking out about losing the TARDIS because that's her ship, that's her home, someone's going to take her, she can't lose anything else–

the way astsos grabs her and tells her she's being selfish and she pauses and realizes that he's right, that there are people who need help and if she is the doctor she will help them first and worry about herself later.

everything about astos, actually.

she doesn't like being told what to do.

the way the doctor actually gets to be injured, and she moves through it because she's used to it, she's done it before and will do it again but the way it's so visible in her body language and voice and it lasts and isn't played off in a second and ignored.

i kept worrying they were going to play yoss off for a joke, and expecting graham to be an asshole about it (i don't know why, he's beating all the allegations, he is a lovely middle aged man with useful life skills who is cool and hip with the times and is just trying to do his best by his teenage step-grandson) but it actually ended up being really sweet and the funny bits were actually funny and not haha thinly-veiled transphobia

speaking of graham just look at him. he's just a guy. i love him.

AND

THE DOCTOR

aaaaaaaa look i know it takes a bit to adjust to a new doctor, and i. hated ten. when i started season two. i did not like him. but i thought eleven was excellent in his first episode, and i'd known twelve already and got so excited to see him, so it took me a minute to get used to thirteen.

even accounting for that, it feels like the first four episodes were still adjusting to jodie whittaker as the doctor. some of the dialogue was a little awkward, and there were really good moments (tea at yaz's! the showdown moment in rosa!) but generally it just felt a little clunky and out of rhythm.

and in this episode! it! clicked!

i've decided i would die for thirteen, actually.

how she meets the general and goes so hard on being a fan, 'oh no doctor is a very common name! i'm not important! ...i think it was more like a volume, not a chapter'.

the way she's so determined to do this, to save everyone, and she doesn't know how yet but she's going to.

the particle accelerator speech. god, this bit. i rewatched it four times. she's just. something about the doctor talking about 'old' technology with a hushed awe and appreciation, talking about science like it's poetry, loving the basic facts of how the universe operates, is just. god.

and especially the ending, how she figures out a way to save them and make the p'ting happy. there was a little bit of it with the big spider, but she moved on very quickly there. here, it's just a side moment, barely even mentioned, but even just the comment about how it isn't trying to hurt anyone, just feed itself–

i love this show.

Just had to laugh at an idea trying to tear down 13Yaz because it wasnt planned from day 1 so we shouldn't act like there's any subtext or hindsight. First of all, it is an Amazing thing that the cast and crew responded to fan interest by going with the chemistry and creating the canon relationship that is literally something that should be encouraged!!! Secondly, something not being intentional doesn't mean it isn't there, especially because the intentional stuff is built on that foundation.

Yeah, and I think more shows should work with the chemistry of the actors they have because the ships that get shipped the most tend to be the ones where the actors have the most chemistry with each other. The fact that Thasmin wasn’t intentional, but so many felt and saw it before it was actually speaks volumes considering 13 did have such a full TARDIS team so her attention was divided between the 3 she wasn’t just playing off Yaz unlike previous Doctors and yet people still saw it and felt it and then the actors saw us seeing it took that to the writers and it became intentional. It should ok for a show to not know exactly where their characters are going to fully end up in 3 series time.

And while it may not have been intentional from the writers Mandip was throwing out heart eyes at the Doctor every chance she could get so it’s not like no one was thinking about it.

Also as the 13th Doctors story evolves it actually makes complete sense that Yaz would fall for the Doctor her awe and admiration turning into love, it’s the most logical progression for Yaz, they didn’t need to know that at the beginning for it to work for her trajectory. The traits of the Doctor are the kind of traits Yaz would fall for, caring, always wants to help, puts herself between danger and others, inquisitive, and knowledgeable. As for the Doctor, her falling for Yaz that makes sense to because Yaz has been her rock her whole life, minus the prison years but the Doctor would have seen in the other TARDIS how dedicated to finding her Yaz was, she has stayed by the Doctors side through thick and thin, all her trauma despite how the Doctor reacts to the trauma and the way that makes her treat Yaz at times. Yaz is by no means a push over but she’s also understanding, caring and drama free. She’s not creating any kind of extra chaos in the Doctors world. She can always count on Yaz being there, which she probably does take a bit for granted but also a reason why you could her falling for her.

Sometimes letting the writers figure somethings out as they go is the best way for things to happen. And it’s not even like that’s new, no one has a a million seasons mapped out with every story and every relationship, shows evolve. If it was a straight couple that wasn’t intentional from the start I don’t think we would see the same discourse honestly.

The fact that she used their relationship and tried to convinced Bea hey you gotta do something you girl friend might die if you don’t

fun fact, Camila is this first one to call Beatrice Bea

I would like to headcanon that whenever Bea were tasked to train new recruits, in order to make them feel more comfortable, at some point Beatrice would let them call her Bea as is sign of closeness(Kinda like a “ My name is Yasmin Khan but my friends call me yaz situation)

Or is just Camila being Camila

either way is cute asf

and I love that Ava after being trained by Bea for two months calls her Bea most of the time too

This scene is giving Clarke Griffin from the 100 coming to Lexa’s room and change her perfectly fine bandages to a random cloth just so she could talk to Lexa

Bea chill out she’s not gonna die she can heal herself

i think the way i see and can accept the finale is as the ultimate sacrifice that the doctor is making in attempt to save yaz from herself.

"i think i should do the next bit alone" is about how she has failed despite really trying. it's all the "and then in a minute i'll think of something i should've said..." and all the "the doctor doesn't really want to be asking it of her" but the doctor also just. Knows. that yaz would never leave. bc "i'm staying with you whatever happens"/"we're not letting you go (get off me yaz)"/"are you gonna... stay? yeah definitely"/and all the flux. bc yaz WILL stay if she asks her too (and even if she doesn't ask) but she's already asked too much and she's never given yaz what she wanted (proper relationship/answers).

so it's not about 13 who didn't try (the hologram? the I'm sorry? hello) but it's about 13 who didn't have time to change despite really trying. and it's about 13 who definitely wished yaz better.

It's the i love you yaz will never know of (but the ome 13 wished yaz knew about).

When I see people trying to explain that the Doctor was more in love with River and open with her than any of his other romantic interests, especially Rose, I want to laugh. Eleven didn't go easy on her at first and was very careful because she was a mystery. He didn't want to marry her in the first place either. It is suggested that he slept with her, but sex does not equal the wildest love in the world. It's likely he indulged in this (if it happened) because she wasn't a companion he was traveling with, unlike Rose or Clara, and he had already dealt with her future death at this point, implying that his future loss would not destroy him after experiencing this. After all, there's a difference between imagining someone's death (Rose & Clara) and having already seen it (River). Beyond that... River wasn't at all sure of the Doctor's feelings towards her, despite the improvement in their relationship. This is quite telling of the level of openness the Doctor had with her. And precisely, despite the improvement in their relationship, the Doctor still had to hide his future death from River. He always had to be careful about what he said with their meetings perpetually out of order. There is no real letting go and openings. None of the Doctor's romances aside from Rose were sure how much the Doctor actually loved them. It's literally the premise that he was as transparent as he could be about his feelings for Rose without ever saying the words. They bonded from their first meeting. From their 2nd episode he entrusted her with the destruction of his planet. Even stronger is that the Doctor literally almost said I love you twice, and finally said it to him as Tentoo. Brief. The Doctor and River fans infuriate me. All the romances in Doctor Who are different, but the fact is that it's pretty obvious that none of them are as deep and cult as the one with Rose.

River is an odd duck to me, because while she started cool, her story got worse with each episode she was in. Honestly, River would have been a much stronger character had she not been a romantic interest. Instead, it became her core identity.

Also, good points you've made there: Yes, the Doctor did tell Rose he loved her - once as Tentoo, and many almost-times as Ten! While he says "Oh, she knows," for the audience to see how close they've become - one of River's final lines is: "If you ever loved me..." which means that nope, he never told her. And from her perspective, that's after the 24 year final-night, because it's while she's data-ghost River in the library. Both of these lines are "audience clues" to show the Doctor's feelings, but the Doctor says that his love for Rose is known, shared, while River is saying that hers is not.

River became ensnared to a weird degree with the Doctor - but more specifically as the Doctor's wife, which I find misogynistic and limited as a character. I didn't like their interactions because I felt out of the loop - like I was being forced to stand witness to their marriage much like the Doctor was forced to go through with it.

I have a very mixed feelings about Clara and the Doctor's relationship. Their romance was more toxic in a dependency sort of way that doesn't appeal to me, it felt weird that Danny was just sort of there, and Clara herself was difficult for me to like because she felt like a melting pot of whatever the writer wanted her to be for the episode.

And then there was Yaz, I guess.

So yeah, I agree. No romance has ever been as open, deep or authentic as the Doctor and Rose, even if he's had other romantic interests since. I like to think that that's part of the reason why RTD is letting them just be happy and together in their own universe. They're safe there.
