1 big thing about livejournal i miss is the fic communities that weren't focused on a fandom but a hyperspecific theme/situation. like sharp_teeth was for psychological horror fics from any fandom, and there was a community specifically for snowed-in/survival/hypothermia fics lol

The idea that being an Archangel vessel can have negative consequences if their role is not fulfilled is one I really love, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen it. Relatedly, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a Dean equivalent to Sam’s powers and stuff either.

In my headcanon, the thing that allowed the demon blood craving and demonic powers to grow roots in Sam wasn’t just that he was Lucifer’s vessel, but that his vesselhood left an empty hole in his being that could be filled. 

And if Sam has spooky consequences for being a vessel, why can’t Dean?

In my mind, Archangel vessels are formed structurally in such a way that they eventually require a keystone in the form of that Archangel. If that keystone is not provided in one way or another, the vessel’s humanity will begin to collapse in on itself and they will be compelled to fill it themselves.

I’ve used the concept in fics I’m working on as a way to explain why creaturehood for Dean ends up being more intense while Sam is immune-- like the vessel portion is an empty flowerbed ripe to be overgrown whereas usual creature infestations have to compete for soil-- but I’ve not yet made one that addresses Dean’s Yang to Sam’s Yin directly.

The concept of eating Angel hearts that’s been mentioned earlier has seriously tipped off my interest in this subject. Wouldn’t that just be absolutely, gloriously monstrous? A Dean that feels an insatiable thirst to leech grace and feed on the hearts of former Angel vessels?

Imagine this: When an open case full of heartless bodies is finally cracked on the realization that all the victims were former angel vessels, and Castiel feels his Grace inexplicably depleting, our heroes start to think that maybe something is very, very wrong with Dean...

Or it could happen even earlier. Maybe Dean is the one that goes missing on that Pilot hunting trip, and the other two Winchesters need to team up while John tries to keep his suspicions of the both of them secret. Maybe Dean finds his bloodlust drawn to the sites of miracles and Enochian ruins, and the fic addresses esoteric religious mysticism in place of Castiel’s role... I like this one even better, actually... Aren’t casefics that involve old ruins great? I don’t see much of those either.

It’s just too bad Sharp_Teeth isn’t around anymore and I can’t prompt these :’D
