Actually lemme revert back to my Voltron days for a sec because i got rage.I got into the show the same time season 3 came out and the Lance x Allura development immediately stole my heart because why wouldn't it?It was the first time i saw people like me as a couple onscreen,by which i mean i'm a mixed latino like Lance-and we're even both carribean since he's cuban and i'm dominican!!!-and a black woman like Allura,and it was such a well-written ship to boot that gave me a good example of what i deserved to be treated like by my s/o and raised my standards for romance both fictional and for my own future(and current)dating life and it meant the world to me and i think it always will.And y'know what?Yes,Allura's death hurt a LOT and it still does sometimes but by now i've learned the sad truth that this is the norm for canon bw

The thing that REALLY sets me off?The fandom's response to them.Nonstop,i'd see 'Allura and Lance are such siblings!!!' 'Omg i'm so glad Lance is finally over Allura XD' 'I really hope Allurance isn't endgame afterall' and it was infuriating back then for the obvious people hating on my otp reason but i've realized that it was literally misogynoir.White and loads of nonblack Vee El Dee fans just couldn't stand that their precious Lancey boy genuinely loved the darkskin black girl mc with no ill-intentions and grew out of any bad habits towards her in season 3 of an 8 SEASON SHOW so that meant we were getting black4brown rep instead of sanitized twink tsunderes and they're STILL AT IT with the Le///akira desperation

But nah nah,y'all 'Space Mom and Dad' allegation makers ain't getting out of this!Allura was a GIRL,Shiro was a MAN-a GAY MAN FFS!!!Their season 1 dynamic was very clearly that of a tired dad and his rebellious teen daughter and all the 'baiting' you saw was you inserting your straight woman feminism fantasies onto them-Again,WOMAN,when Allura was an entire 17 year old and Shiro was in his mid-20s!You're literally the same as people who ship him with Pidge or even worse because there's an added layer of perpetuating the long history of adultification and by extension dehumanization of black children.Sit your tenheadasses down,it's not racist or misogynistic that people think you're gross and weird for infantalizing and straightwashing a canon gay japanese man

Keith and Lance weren't baited.Shiro and Allura were never even a fucking option.ALLURANCE was bait,for latinos and black people and those of us inbetween alike,they dangled it in front of us in promos and the vlogs and the official books and most importantly in THE ACTUAL FUCKING SERIES.Only to go 'Sike!!!The only deserving happy ending for traumatized black girls is to die for others and their soulmate to be forced to live on without them!!!' and the fact that y'all have the AUDACITY to make it about yourselves by twisting one of the best love stories in modern american animation into 'Nice Guy Gets The GirlTM' is bodyslam worthy.Be.Fucking Quiet.

reminder that sheith is actually a pretty pure ship.

there’s nothing wrong with shipping things that would be harmful in real life, such as age gap pairings, canon incest, canonically abusive relationships, villain/hero ships, rivals who canonically hate each other, imbalanced power dynamics, etc. There’s also nothing wrong with wanting to consume or create fictional works with dark or unsafe content such as rape/noncon/dubcon, physical or emotional abuse, power imbalances, bad bdsm practice, torture, etc.

However, canon-based sheith has none of these things:

There are no canon ages, so no canon age gap.

Shiro supports Keith’s growth as a pilot and as a leader and Keith supports Shiro through symptoms of PTSD and stress.

They have open, healthy communication channels; Shiro can see when Keith is in emotional distress and Keith can see when Shiro is in emotional distress.

They are comfortable touching one another in friendly ways from the start of the series (hands on shoulders, hugging one another).

Keith respects Shiro’s opinions but isn’t afraid to speak up when he disagrees with Shiro.

Shiro, in turn, respects the opinions and considers the input of everyone on Team Voltron when making leaderly decisions, and he isn’t upset by being overruled or doubted.

Keith says Shiro is ‘like a brother’ to him, which mostly rules out the possibility of them being canonically blood-related. (This is also not an uncommon way for aromantic or unrecognized homosexual feelings to be initially addressed.)

Shiro respects Keith’s fear of losing Shiro and never brings up his potential death/departure again after discovering how deep it runs.

Despite Keith’s closeness to Shiro, he was able to operate, keep himself busy, and not obsess over Shiro during the year he was missing on Earth (he had no reason to believe Shiro was the thing the ancient symbols predicted would arrive, and his search for the Blue Lion had nothing to do with Shiro).

Keith never lets Shiro forget how valued a member of Team Voltron he is, even when Shiro doubts himself.

While ships certainly don’t have to be ‘pure’ to be allowed to be shipped, and fanworks don’t have to be only ‘pure’ content, sheith is a pairing that is genuinely about as pure as can be, and you should never have to feel guilty for shipping it or consuming fanworks for it even if you don’t approve of unhealthy ships.

Sheith Positivity Week 2019 !!!

Howdy! As you can see by the title, Sheith Positivity Week for 2019 is up and running!!!

The major theme has been pre-decided ( crowd sourced!) and it will be “Just Sheith Things~” or otherwise, well, Sheith things!

The date for the week is currently in decision mode. I’m trying to find the BEST week for everyone involved, so I think a poll on ‘months’ would be the best option- and then to narrow it down from there. After all I do want fan participation lol.

What is Sheith Positivity Week?

Well, if you’re new here or just need a reminder:

Sheith Positivity Week of SPW, is an entire week dedicated to all things Positive Sheith! The week is themed (as seen above) and for a full week fans can participate and share their fresh new works with the community.

This year, the week is very open to interpretation. The prompt should be as non-specific as I could get them while still staying within the Sheith theme (that being Keith & Shiro as both individuals and as a couple).

While the week is for Positive Sheith works, should you find the prompts inspiring you elsewhere then you're free to write/draw/animate/gif/edit to your hearts content. I only ask that things are tagged accordingly. (This also includes N SFW works)

Rules

All entries should focus on the romantic relationship between Shiro and Keith.

No OT3 that includes Shiro/Keith will be allowed for this week (sorry OT3 fans!)

Entries should focus on positive energy. Please don’t make it too angsty and/or triggering. The prompts ARE open for interpretation, but this is a positivity week!

NSFW entries are okay. Just make sure to tag appropriately and/or put under [read more].

The Prompts

The prompts for this years week have already been decided to create a quicker turn out period, lol. So here they are, up for YOUR consideration, with some gentle explanations for the prompts.

Monday, TBA: Rainbow / Monochrome

An easy first day, a big part of the theme this year is color, and as our favorite black and white duo- nothing fits better than these two!

Tuesday, TBA: Jackets / Gloves

Iconic gear, another easy prompt set but more specific for sheith.

Wednesday, TBA: Nicknames / Last names

A slightly more difficult prompt set. But still applies to the characters well, while still having room for interpretation.

Thursday, TBA: Sometimes / Always

This was a personal pick. A more difficult prompt set. The words feel very sheith and give room for either really happy content or really heart wrenching and then everything in between.

Friday, TBA: “It’s Killing Me When You’re Away” / “It’s Good To Be Back”

Two of the most iconic lines, said by one to the other. A more difficult prompt set meant to be an end of the week deal to give you time to think up ideas.

Saturday, TBA: Song Inspired Work

So!!!! Over the past few months I saw the Sheith Song List take off, and I found that many people have their own favorite song picks for Sheith. This prompt is a happy little nod to the community, so go wild! That song you always play your own mini animatic in your head to? Go for it. If you wanna make a sheith song, that works too!

I only ask that you: Use a lyric from a song to Inspire, Title, of Quote in the work. So basically, if you write a fic insp by it, title it with the lyric/song or use it as a quote, if you draw use it as your caption title or again a quote. ETC. (this is just clarification, please feel free to use the prompt as you please)

Sunday, TBA: Free Day!!!

Self explanatory!!! Go wild! After that finale there’s been a dip in content on tumblr- and I wanna see all those ideas that have been looking for the write audience!

I have the hope, that this positivity week will bring back fans. We all went though some rocky time with the finale, and we all love this ship. I want everyone to remember why they love it. I wanna see the art and stories, I wanna see the niche craft content. And I wanna share the opportunity with everyone!!

One thing I like about the Marvel fandom is that most fans care about the actual content in the comics/shows/movies, discussing storylines, making predictions, talking about theories, while still shipping characters. Where with Voltron, I hardly see any real discussion about the show. Just everyone arguing about which one of the characters should fuck Keith, Lance, and Shiro, mostly Keith tho. People hating Allura for the shittiest reasons, mostly because they feel she’s in the way of pairings. And almost acting like Hunk and Pidge don’t exist. God forbid they acknowledge Coran’s existence.

I’m discourse free 99% of the time but honestly anti shaladins/klantis have proven time and time again to be a fucking plague upon an otherwise AMAZING fandom

Just a few things I want to say about it all in light of recent events

- Shaladin is not pedophilia. Shaladin is not pedophila. SHALADIN IS NOT PEDOPHILIA.
