If you’re still taking requests, may I have some headcanons for an S/O with chronic pain and fatigue, for Kolivan and Sendak?

I did what I could, so I hope that you like it

~ Sendak ~

~ Galra generally don't have as many illnesses and conditions as humans do because it's basically bred out of them as a species, so when Sendak learns that you have a condition that causes chronic pain and fatigue he tries his best to make you as comfortable as possible

~ He researches your condition so he can better understand it without making you uncomfortable, although he listens to you so he can understand what you're going through from your point of view

~ He doesn't view you as weak because it's not your fault that you have your condition, but you're the only person he makes accommodations for

~ Based on what you've told him that you need extra sleep Sendak makes the bed even more comfortable when you need a nap

~ He also helps you practice relaxation techniques and simple physical exercise

~ Support groups aren't really a thing in the galra empire, although if you have mood swings or anxiety he schedules a talk therapy session with one of the best therapists in the empire via video chat

~ Sendak likes taking naps with you from time to time, at his age and with how busy he is he needs it

~ For your tender and sore muscles Sendak delicately rubs pain relief ointment on your skin where you're sore, he doesn't like seeing you in pain

~ If your periods are affected by your condition Sendak gives you a little extra painkiller so that your cramps aren't too bad and he keeps the right period products stocked in the bathroom as well

~ He eventually commissions Haggar to make a cure for you so that you don't have to deal with your condition for the rest of your life; it can be done because she knows ancient altean healing magic

~ Modern galra technology and medicine also gives her an advantage, it just takes her a little while to make a cure for you

~ Kolivan ~

~ Shortly after Kolivan started courting you he noticed how there was something different about you; he never noticed it much before, but you seem tired and in pain more than the paladins

~ Before he could ask you about it you confessed that you have a condition that makes you experience chronic pain and fatigue, as well as a few other unpleasant symptoms

~ Kolivan isn't familiar with human conditions and illnesses, although he does everything he can to make you comfortable

~ You agree to move in with him so he can take care of you easier after he asks you

~ He asks Ulaz if he can make a cure for you because he doesn't want you to keep suffering from your condition

~ Ulaz can definitely make something, but it'll take a while because some of the things he needs are rare and hard to find

~ Until then he lets you rest as much as you need to, he even made the bed more comfy for you

~ You appreciate that Kolivan's willing to take the time out of his schedule in order to take care of you

~ He listens to you when you need someone to talk to and he helps you with simple exercises

~ If you need someone else to talk to you talk to the on-site therapist

~ Doing yoga with him every couple of days helps you to relax

~ Ulaz keeps muscle relaxant ointment in stock for you, it's effective in making your chronic pain less painful

~ There isn't much anyone can do for your chronic fatigue until your cure is ready

~ You take plenty of naps, though

~ If you need a massage then he gives you a massage if he's not too busy

~ You couldn't have asked for a better significant other, until your cure is ready Kolivan takes care of you in every way imaginable

speaking of ionized cannons, that is easily shiro's most dangerous weapon, but i think that it's only kuron who uses it, so like, unless you were to provoke shiro into snapping, somehow (like when pidge has to disable his arm because he gets mind controlled - via one of the vld comic books), it really wouldn't be that big of a deal. he doesn't know how to activate it on its own, and yes, the arm has superhuman strength and can turn into an ionized laser, but ultimately, if you know how to get it to stop working, you're in good hands.

Y'know, considering I've written some Lodak, this feels like a crazy question to ask, but it just occurred to me that I'm not sure how old Sendak is.

Fan wiki says over 10,000 which seems...odd considering I thought only the royal exposed-to-corrupted-quintessence family was that old.

I know Sendak served Zarkon loyally for a LONG TIME but, like, 10,000 years?

Do you have any thoughts surrounding this? I'd love to hear em. 👀

So, my operating assumption is that any Galra that lived on Daibazaal during the years the Rift was active were affected by the quintessence, making them functionally immortal, a trait which is passed on to any offspring.

As for Sendak, he’s however old that it’s convenient for me to say he is (usually relative to Lotor’s age and the narrative I’m trying to construct. Is he a handsome grizzled experienced commander that young adult! Lotor moons after? Or is he a young fresh-faced officer that caught the prince’s eye?)

I suppose that, since Sendak is basically Zarkon’s Most Trusted Officer, Sendak could be getting in on that “drugging myself with quintessence to extend my life and make me more powerful” action.

Normally, for canon-verse fics, I just assume that he’s 10,000 years old, but the idea of him being like…30 is really amusing to me

i Have SO MANY THOUGHTS on who pilots each lion and why.

I have 2 PJO/VLD crossovers already that are ~150 pages each, which I wrote while I was in high school. In one of them, Percy pilots Black, Jason pilots Blue, Leo pilots Green, Frank pilots Yellow, and Nico pilots red. I feel like that's a pretty basic line-up, TBH. In the other one, everything is the same except Jason and Percy are swapped.

I don't like those dynamics anymore, though, and I think there's some WAY more interesting stuff that can be done.

I think Annabeth should be Allura, right off the bat, though. NO matter what, that role fits her best, to me. She's the knowledgable princess who is the heart and center of this war, she is the reason there is a fight to be had in opposition at all. Without her, Camp Voltron doesn't exist.

Jason makes sense as Black paladin to me - the one who was always made to be the leader, pushed himself despite all the potential reasons not to (for Shiro, it being his illness. For Jason, it being a fundamental rift between who he actually is versus who the world thinks he should be). The one who wants to be a mentor and a helper for everyone, the one who gives everything to save the others. Shiro throwing himself into the ring as the Gladiator, the Champion, so Matt didn't have to? Exactly like Jason dying so Piper didn't have to. To me, that one is a no brainer.

The rest is where I get pretty iffy. I like Percy as Blue because, duh. But I think he would also be a good Red. He's impulsive, his plans aren't always thought out and usually he charges in knowing he has power to back him up, and nothing else. I wouldn't necessarily call him hot headed, but he definitely isn't the type to just roll over and accept whatever leadership tells him to do. This is the dude who snuck out of camp to go after quests, the dude who blew up a volcano, Percy as Red just makes sense to me.

I know Nico is usually slotted in as red because Keith, but I almost see Nico either as not a pilot at all, or as a Blade member gone AWOL. Maybe he tags along when the Earth crew goes after Jason because he knew Jason, Jason was the only human he trusted. It's not like at that point they would know that they'll be piloting the lions, right? Or, maybe Nico DOES know about the lions, but holds that information to himself, because he thinks that maybe, just maybe, he's finally found the people who can help him swing the war. Because that's how Nico is - he operates as a one-man army, trying to take everything into his hands, pull all of the strings.

I have a lot of different ideas for how Nico could go in a VLD crossover, TBH. He could be half Altean, half Galra, like Lotor. He could be a version of Coran's character. He could be the red paladin who inevitably leaves because he feels the team doesn't trust him, thinks he's a freak, the red paladin who doesn't come back. Reyna could be a Blade, maybe the one who saves Jason, the one who recognizes the Galra in Nico. There are so many options!

I almost like Frank in Coran's role, because he gets to be meek and timid to a point but also knowledgeable. Plus, I feel like canon PJO Frank didn't really love fighting? And I could see him-as-Coran having an interesting history 1) with Annabeth, he sees her as a friend and maybe even a sister, because they were raised together and all that and 2) Maybe he knew the Galra, and was friends with a lot of them before everything changed (thinking along the lines of, the Galra being the Romans. Like, Octavian as Sendak kind of thing. Some of the gods/goddesses being other high power Galra, like maybe some corrupted versions of Jupiter and Juno are Haggar and Zarkon. I DID just almost put Zoloft instead of Zarkon.)

I love Hazel as Green, which might be due to my recent fondness for the transfem!Pidge headcanon. I headcanon Hazel as being a trans woman ever since hockey AU. I also think that Hazel has an interesting connection with Jason (Romans) and Nico (siblings) like Pidge does to Shiro and Keith - even though they don't all exactly align, I still like the parallels. Pidge sees Shiro as an older brother - Hazel sees Jason as an older mentor figure who, in my HC, she becomes genuine friends with through Nico. And then, Pidge has a fondness for Keith because they canonically both feel like outcasts and whatnot, and, obviously, Hazel and Nico in canon are the underworld siblings together. There's some interesting stuff to be done with the whole, Hazel and Nico but also Nico and Bianca and all that.

Plus, if Hazel is part Galra too, then that means Nico doesn't have to be on Voltron, he could just be a Blade. Because we can have Hazel as the "omg we have a Traitor Among Us" and the camera pans over and it's 5 foot shit Hazel with a dagger and space buns.

Also Galra Hazel??? HEllo??? how has no one done this before I'm barking.

....omfg HAZEL as Red???? HELLO????

AS FOR YELLOW. I mean .Leo. come on. He's the comic relief, he's the mechanic, he's the fourth wall breaker and the one who eats all the weird shit and fantasizes about getting home so he can make and eat homemade meals. Y'know? Like, it just makes sense to me. Plus the we get the fun dynamic of a Lance-like character being in even LESS of a position of "power" in the team, because he's NOT the sharpshooter, he's NOT the second in command. He's just...Leo. The seventh wheel. He wants to be more but he doesn't know how.

Piper is another option for a bunch of roles, too. I could see her fitting in as Green, of course, but she could definitely also fit as, say, Coran's role, the role of one of the blades, maybe even as one of the reoccurring characters like Shay or Nyma. I think there could be a way to work Piper in as Red, but that would have to be in an AU where Jason Leo and Piper are The Main Trio, versus what I'm aiming for here with Annabeth Percy Nico and Jason being the main Group.

(My Jercabethico agenda lives on.)

I'm trying to think of other characters I would give important roles to. TBH I think any other remainders it would depend on the story - like, Luke could be Zarkon in some of these AUs, whereas in others he might be Lotor (misguided with a crazy mom and an absent/abusive father??? bro). And in some maybe he's Sendak, or he's his own insane antagonist that doesn't have anything to do with the original VLD bros.

And then there's like, the rest of the gods. Who are they, what are they doing? Hades and the other underworld Cast would absolutely be Blades or Galra of some flavor. But what about Aphrodite? or Poseidon? Are they perhaps the leaders of other planets?

(Does this give us the opportunity to make everybody aliens???)

SO ANYWAY. These are my word-vomit thoughts on VLDPJO crossover. They are subject to change and also I might immediately forget about all of this as soon as I hit post. But just know that right now I FULLY believe in this. Hell yeah.

Kidge headcanon n.5 (little angst)

When the team returned on Earth after they won against Sendak, they decided to celebrate womens day since Allura, Romelle and Shay never celebrated one. So Shiro, Lance and Hunk went to the girls with a big bouquet of mimosas. So Allura though that "every gentleman gives to a lady a bouquet on this day" since Lance explained her what was womens day.

She got really mad with Keith, cause from him she didn't recieved any flower. But the real reason was that he was busy to buy the biggest bouquet ever for Pidge, the only one to which none has given anything....

kidge headcanon 22:

I feel like at Shiro's wedding, Pidge got invited to dance with a few guys, including Lance, Shiro, Hunk, and Matt. But they aren't the important part of this. So many guys came up to her and asked her to dance. Keith, who was seated at the same table as her, felt anger simmering within him whenever a guy would approach her. Pidge turned down the random guys, which eased Keith's irritation a little.

Of course, Keith didn't mind when it was one of their friends asking her to dance, and he would simply feel a touch of jealousy. He wouldn't dare ask her himself. Well, he considered himself a bad dancer, or at least that's what he thought.

But then, something happened. James Griffin approached their table to ask Pidge to dance. Keith's blood froze as he knew that Pidge had grown closer to the MFE pilots during her time at the Garrison. He had observed the way James had been flirting with her in the past few months, and it hurt him deeply.

At that moment, his fear became a reality: Pidge agreed to dance with James. Keith watched them walk away, his heart sinking, and he took a final sip of his drink before exiting the room. He couldn't bear to witness what was happening.

A few minutes later, he heard footsteps approaching. It was Pidge.

"Hey," she said as she came next to him.

"What are you doing here? Weren't you with James?" Keith inquired.

"It's a little hot in the room, so I wanted to get some fresh air. But what about you? What are you doing here?"

"Same as you."

"Hmm, okay..."

They remained silent for a while before Pidge spoke again.

"You don't dance?"

"I'm a terrible dancer, really..."

"It can't be THAT bad."

"It is, trust me."

Ignoring his protest, Pidge held out her hand, saying, "Let's see."

Keith hesitated for a moment before taking her hand. He couldn't miss this opportunity, especially when James had also taken it. She led him gently as a slow song began playing in the ballroom.

"See, there. Put your hands like this." She guided his hands, placing one on her hip while holding the other, pulling them even closer, causing Keith to blush.

She hadn't danced this intimately with James earlier, had she?

"Now, follow my lead."

They started dancing, and it was evident that Keith wasn't entirely comfortable with the situation. He wasn't accustomed to such closeness. He had faced the Galra Empire, fought against Zarkon, and survived the quantum abyss. Heck, he had even defeated Sendak. So why did this feel so... scary?

And, something was different now. Keith had observed Pidge dancing with a few other people tonight and noticed that she hadn't been this close to them. The realization sent a strange warmth through him.

As the song continued, Keith gradually began to relax. His initial nervousness faded as he focused on the rhythm and followed Pidge's guidance. Surprisingly, he found himself enjoying the dance despite his reservations.

The song seemed to stretch on, and Keith lost track of time. All that mattered was the feeling of holding Pidge in his arms, the soft music in the background, and the way she smiled up at him. The warmth in his chest grew, and he felt a sense of contentment he hadn't anticipated.

Eventually, the song came to an end, and they slowed to a stop. Keith reluctantly released Pidge, a sense of loss washing over him as they stepped apart.

"Thanks for the dance, Keith," Pidge said with a genuine smile.

"Yeah, thanks," Keith replied, feeling a warmth in his chest that had nothing to do with the room's temperature.

That was the first time that they had an actual romantic moment and don't worry, Keith became a good dancer for their wedding... x)

You sure can:) I hope it's okay that I tweaked your request a little due to my personal hc's about how galra relationships work 😅

~ Usually Sendak was gentle with you but after Ranveig pissed him off he was in a particularly bad mood

~ You were just in the wrong place at the wrong time when he yelled at you and hit you; it wasn't hard enough to break any of your bones but it was hard enough to leave a big bruise on your left cheek

~ Sendak didn't necessarily mean to hit you specifically, but he got annoyed when you asked him what was bothering him and it just kind of happened

~ He came to his senses when you stood up and broke up with him, his heart breaking when he watched you leave while crying

~ You knew Sendak could get violent sometimes due to a hormonal issue but you never thought he'd actually hit you

~ You decided to stay in one of the spare habsuites in his cruiser where you felt safe

~ Haxus comforted you as best as he could while also bringing you food and water for the next few days

~ He also gave you an ice pack for your left cheek and some medicated cream to help the swelling go down

~ You cried every day when you thought about what happened

~ Sendak felt excruciatingly remorseful during those few days, wishing that he hadn't of hit you at all

~ The remorse was almost too much for him and he was determined to get you back

~ In traditional galran relationships when two people broke up they stayed that way, so Sendak was afraid that he would lose you forever

~ However, from what he understood humans sometimes got back together and he had a little hope

~ What he did was one of the worst things to do to one's significant other, so he thought of ways to apologize to you

~ Sendak knew what he needed to do; he waited a few extra days before he made some of your favorite foods for dinner one night

~ Haxus was the one who told you Sendak wanted to talk to you that night at dinner; seeing the man who hit you again was nerve-wracking but you didn't want to seem rude by not at least hearing him out

~ Honestly, you weren't sure if things between you and Sendak could work out after he hit you a few days prior

~ After thinking about how to apologize and feeling guilty for what he did to you Sendak felt extremely anxious that evening

~ You weren't surprised to see some of your favorite foods at the dinner table and knew what Sendak was trying to do

~ Dinner was incredibly awkward and when Sendak couldn't handle the silence anymore he apologized, acknowledging what he did and how wrong it was of him before he expressed how remorseful he felt for hitting you

~ He'd learned from his mistake and just the thought of losing you made him even more sorry for acting out in anger

~ Hearing Sendak apologize with such significance wasn't something you expected; he was being so sincere and you knew he meant every word because he rarely apologized to anyone

~ You were the only person Sendak truly loved and he promised that he would never hurt you again in the future

~ You had to think about it for a few moments; Sendak was obviously being extremely sincere and he seemed distraught about the whole situation, so you forgave him and decided to give him a second chance

~ Sendak was grateful you forgave him after doing something so unforgivable; you're the only person who's forgiveness truly matters to him and he can't stand the thought of losing you

~ The rest of dinner goes well after he apologized and you forgave him

~ Sendak decides to take something to lower his hormone levels a little so that the incident doesn't ever happen again in the future

~ Soft passionate make up sex follows dinner and dessert; Sendak wants nothing more than to make you feel like the most important woman in the universe because to him, you are

Character ask: The Youth Who Went Forth to Learn What Fear Is

Favorite thing about them: The sheer comedy of his nonchalant responses to terrifying things. Not only is he never afraid, he doesn't even treat the ghosts, goblins, and horrors he faces as anything out of the ordinary. That's the key to the story's humor.

Least favorite thing about them: The fact that he has seemingly no interest in working to help support his family unless it will teach him how to shudder. Of course laziness is a typical trait of rags-to-riches peasant heroes in fairy tales, but I'm glad the adaptations tend to downplay it and just make him quirky instead.

Also, while the ending is funny, with the princess finally making him shudder by drenching him in cold water filled with wriggling minnows, it's slightly disappointing that he never does learn to feel fear. It's no wonder that adaptations tend to change the ending so that something finally does scare him: whether touchingly (e.g. in The Storyteller's episode "Fearnot," when he finds his sweetheart dying of grief from his absence) or humorously (e.g. in Faerie Tale Theatre's "The Boy Who Left Home to Find Out About the Shivers," with his nervousness about getting married).

Three things I have in common with them:

*Sometimes my different way of thinking causes problems, but at other times it's actually helpful.

brOTP: None in the Grimms' tale. But in the loose adaptation from Jim Henson's The Storyteller, "Fearnot," there's Mr. McKay, the cunning tinker who leads him to the scary places, initially just for money, but who eventually becomes his true friend.

OTP: The princess, or in Storyteller adaptation, his village sweetheart Lidia.

nOTP: Any of the monsters he meets.

Random headcanon: He's autistic. Now of course this is an anachronistic viewpoint; he's just meant to be a lucky fool, like so many other peasant boys in fairy tales. But the fact that he specifically can't relate to an emotion which comes naturally to everyone else, that he doesn't pick up on the emotional vibes that other people do in key situations, and that he has a hyperfixation (learning to shudder) and no interest in practical things that don't relate to that fixation... well, all those things sound familiar.

Viewing him from this perspective, I feel better about the fact that he never learns to feel fear: he'll always be different and that's okay.

Unpopular opinion: I don't think I have one, because his story isn't particularly well known. The best I can think of is that it deserves to be retold more often, especially around Halloween: its blend of spookiness and comedy is underrated.

Voltron Season 1 Thoughts (Review)

Season 1 was a very good introduction to the series. We learned a bit of each character’s base personality and went into depth with some of them such as Pidge and Allura and even bits and pieces of Shiro’s past. We got to see Voltron’s power and the Galra’s cruelty and how seeing that cruelty changed Hunk.

Shay was being oppressed and when he realised he could do something about that, Hunk grew. He stopped being a coward and scared and changed. That was amazing character development on his part.

Pidge also had some good character development this season, going from pushing everyone away to find her family to coming to realise that the team was her family. Hunk and Pidge were probably the two characters who evolved the most in this season and I love that.

I don’t support the trans Pidge headcanon. I believe Pidge was happy to be a girl but made the same decision Mulan did where she chose to pose as a boy to help her family. But she seemed miserable cutting her hair and struggled to let the others in close until she told them she was a girl. I am not super pro- LGBTQ+ but I am okay with same sex couples as long as its not turned into a fetish. However, I am anti-transgenderism. I don’t like it. No hate for the people but it makes me uncomfortable.

Hunk/Shay is adorable though. I support it. I will read it. I write it too. Keith started off interesting and I love his bad boy traits, so sexy and it made him very cool but he also feels very one-note this season. Still sexy, but I don’t like his personality very much. Shiro and Allura do really shine for me this season too though. Shiro is very strong – struggling with PTSD, which was written awesome but still being there for everyone and trying his best as leader.

And Allura, omg girl, my heart. You lost your planet, your people, your family and you’re still fighting for the greater good. Like that is true kindness. The way she helped the Balmera omg and her speech brought tears to my eyes. She definitely is my favourite this season, followed by Shiro.

Lance annoyed me. Like he’s not bad, I know but this season wasn’t really good for him or for Keith, but he’s too shallow for me to like him just yet. The parade stuff and constant flirting annoyed me a lot. I think the only time I liked him was when he defended Pidge in the first episode, like covered her mouth and all to keep her from getting in trouble. Weirdly enough, the two moments I liked him were when he was defending Pidge, once from Iverson and once from Sendak. I think I’ve always been a Plance shipper lol but never admitted it because it felt like that one odd ship.

Overall, I feel this season was a good introduction to the series but it’s not one I rewatch constantly as a whole season. Oh forgot to mention, I also liked the little snippets we got of Shiro and Keith’s brotherly bond. Keith rescuing Shiro from quarantine was probably his best moment to me in this series as well as protecting him when he had a PTSD attack. So yeah, that was sweet!

I find it kind of odd that there isn’t more disabled [VLD] Lotor content. Mostly because he’s a pretty popular character who’s been analyzed a lot and there are so many works about his childhood and life pre-events of the show so you’d think it might come up a lil bit more than it does. While the answer is probably the obvious “the show itself doesn’t handle it’s canonically disabled characters very well” + “in fandom disabled creators are usually the majority of the people making that kind of stuff,” I feel like the way he’s presented, while not enough to say its canon 100%, could still make for a headcanon that could be backed up.

[okie so two things before we get to your irregularly scheduled ramble: 1 there will be a paragraph or two where ableism within Galran society is discussed. It’s not the entirety of the post so I’m not going to tag it, but I leave this here as a content warning instead. And 2 this was originally written about potentially hypermobile/HSD Lotor, but has been expanded to include chronic pain & fatigue so if it seems like this is skewing a bit in a certain direction, that’s why]

Okie so both appearing to be and physically being strong are pretty important in Galran society (specifically among nobility and the military; we only see ~2 civilians so it’s hard to come to any conclusions on that side). It’s visible in things like the Kral Zera, where the strongest wins regardless of faction or bloodline, and the type of armor we see some of the higher ranking Galra wear: large and bulky, with some having what looks like false eyes decorating their breastplates.

And this sort of mindset even translates to prosthetics. The prosthetic limbs we see on Galra all double as weapons. Even Shiro, who was a prisoner, is given a prosthetic with a “danger” hand, even when he seemed to be getting by well enough in the arena with a regular weapon.

For any physical disabilities, just get an upgrade. Lose an arm? You can get a new arm with a laser cannon and big grabby claw. Lose an eye? Get a new eye that can measure distance and read heat signatures. The loss of body parts isn’t something viewed as inherently bad for those who have access to high tech replacements. That’s not to say negative attitudes or discrimination don’t exist, but within the bubble of military personnel, it would probably be more of the “oh, I see you still have last year’s model” or “I see you couldn’t get an appointment with the druids, what a shame” type stuff. Like how when Sendak invades the castle and says to Shiro something along the lines of “I see you’ve been to the druids, so have I, but my arm is better.”

Which leaves some implications for how disabilities you can’t see are viewed. It’s not like you could just buy a new nervous system or replace all the tendons in your body with new ones. You can’t just “train harder” to get rid of a chronic condition.

So here’s the part y’all came here for: ways Lotor could be viewed as a stealth spoonie.

Armor

Lotor is always in armor. Most of the prominent characters get at least one alternate outfit at some point, yet we see from flashbacks that he’s apparently been wearing the same thing for thousands of years. But if he designed it himself, who’s to say he couldn’t add some joint support while he’s at it?

flight suit - things like compression gloves, hip support, shoulder support could be integrated into the design pretty easily, with any external straps being hidden under his breastplate or waist cape

knee caps - pretty standard for armor, but could also serve double duty in preventing the knee from bending too far forward

vambraces - these are pretty thick, covering the wrist and extending up the hand. It seems kind of impractical to have armor that obstructs your hand’s range of motion unless that’s the point.

The shoulder thing

is it just being double jointed? - the wiki says yes, but it doesn’t provide a source

when I first wrote this down, I was looking for a clip of this scene because I couldn’t remember and found a video where someone who was double jointed recreated the movement. I can’t find it now to link it so this is a bit of a “trust me” point but I made some notes. In terms of cracking noises, both had about the same, with the person having a little less. However, it was in a comment replying to someone where they stated that it didn’t hurt. Meanwhile, Lotor seems to be in pain, albeit handling it pretty well, which makes this seem like more than just flexibility.

with arms bound like that, most people would try to go for pulling their arms under their body. But if Lotor was used to his joints dislocating, it makes sense why he wouldn’t see doing that as a big deal. They do that all the time, he knows how much pain it will be, and he knows how to put them back

Rest, disguised

Wasn’t sure what to call this bit, but I almost titled it “siting” so it could be worse. prompted by this image from season 2 episode 3:

Lotor rests/conserves energy in ways that don’t look like it from the outside. He doesn’t pace his cell on the castle, he sits, presenting a calm yet contemplative image. In this screencap, he is the only one sitting despite all of them coming back from invading a planet. From the outside, it just looks like a reminder of authority.

Summary - kinda idk

Lotor chooses his actions and how he presents himself carefully. He wears a mask most of the time, even to the point where his generals, which are arguably the closest people to him, barely know him. It’s better that way.

Even being a prince doesn’t protect him from what others were already saying about him. He’s heard every way he’s “weak” since he was a child, and he can’t let them have anything else that could be used against him.

So he adapts, and hides it. Supports mixed with armor, resting without anyone knowing. He is strong, but he is always aware of how much energy things take. He’s tried doing things the Galra way, but brute force isn’t sustainable for him. His father might not approve of his methods, but it works.

Flying is freeing; one of the rare times he doesn’t have to adapt or pretend.

Final notes

Hope the way I explained things didn’t get too confusing near the end. My rambles are all over the place and even when I try to organize them it can be tricky. I’m aware most of this stuff isn’t that deep, mostly details that weren’t meant to be looked into that much.

I guess my point with this is that it surprises me that with how much people look into this character, this interpretation doesn’t really come around a lot. [basically what I said in the very first paragraph]

It’s probably for the best that canon chronically ill Lotor isn’t canon though, because with the way the show treated both him and it’s disabled characters it probably wouldn’t have gone very well.

I have read a few fics with disabled Lotor post getting-fished-out-of-the-rift but I haven’t been able to find much outside of that [though it is possible I missed them as there are many fics and not everyone tags things the same way]

I am getting incoherent I need to call it quits. If I had to make this post one sentence it would be: there should be more spoonie Lotor imo.

You know, after reading that post I just realized that Avatar and VLD have strong similarities between each other.

1. Evil empire's that's been around for more than century.

2. Propaganda

3. Princes of said evil empires are hated and ridiculed by their own people and was exiled before the start of the series by their abusive fathers

4. The prince's don't have a mother. And the same goes for the water type girls, who mothers were killed way before the start of the series by the enemy

5. The prince's dethroned their father and took his place via a rite of passage which they had to battle their father's golden child for. (I headcanon that Zarkon sees Sendak as the son he wished Lotor was.)

There are many, many more examples but I'll keep it short to just five.

I love this for them.

These similarities could be because there is at least one shared writer between VLD and A:TLAB

Look, no, see, I was wiki-hopping and I was really shook to learn that there's magic in vld?? (I really shouldn't have been, I guess Haggar wasn't called a witch for nothing) and like, I'm very salty about Lotor apparently not being shown using magic?? despite?? he's Honerva's whole ass son and he's chock full of Quintessence??? The potential??? Epic magic battle against Haggar?? Please???

I like to imagine there might've been some planets where they had closer relationships with magic, and I like to imagine Tiashe might carry half its blood. And I like to imagine Lotor and Tiashe studying magic together.

Actually, let's make Tiashe a support mage on the battlefield. Still a sniper, but also supporting their comrades from behind them!

Most of the days Lotor is sporting chronic pain and Tiashe is sporting a migraine. Sendak has to lure them in with cuddles, which (unsurprisingly) works because they're both touch-starved babies 😭

Kids climb Sendak like he's a jungle gym. He takes it with grace, much to Tiashe's surprise. They thought he wouldn't be good with kids.

Tiashe is an actual diplomat unlike Allura, thank you very much!

Sendak likes listening to them both infodump about magic, about lost histories, about ancient traditions and old texts, and the two are all too happy to oblige lol

Old histories, myths and traditions were kept alive via oral tradition until Tiashe and crew came along to write them down and compile them. I don't think old stories would've been allowed to exist under Zarkon's rule, and so it's very likely that all three of them missed out on this. Tiashe is all too happy to read or tell them stories they'd compiled.
