For the sake of storytelling and NOT failing Chuuya’s arc it fit better for his humanity to have remained intact. If he REALLY had been vampire-ized it would have HAD to be addressed exactly because he struggled with his humanity so much through his arc.

BSD 109 Spoilers!!!
I will always always ALWAYS come back to this panel when talking about Asagiri’s storytelling.
Tumblr media
At its very core, BSD is an absurdist text, Kafka Asagiri having been inspired by many absurdist authors. Franz Kafka, who he took his pseudonym from is one of them. Albert Camus, basically the most well-known absurdist is referenced with the Mersault prison, the name of which comes from a character in his most famous absurdist work, The Stranger.
Absurdism is the belief that the world around us is irrational and inherently absurd and that explicitly seeking meaning is pointless. In his essay The Myth of Sisyphus, Camus explains, that there is value in the act of rebellion, though. Sisyphus, who has been doomed to roll a boulder up a mountain only for the boulder to tumble back down each time he reaches the peak, finds meaning in the act of continuing to push the boulder. Even though he will continue this cycle for all of eternity, he doesn’t just lay down and give up, he rebels against the absurdity of his situation by continuing to push the boulder, despite the seemingly futile nature of the act.
As I said earlier, BSD is an absurdist text. All of the animanga’s main characters are on a journey of discovering their meaning in life, and their place in the world, and they do this by rebelling against its absurdity — especially Dazai.
Dazai sees the absurd world for what it is, and when he was in the PM, he hated it. Thus, he sought suicide as a solution. I will note here that absurdists generally view suicide as a failure to rebel against the absurd, just giving up and giving into hopelessness. But ever since Dazai left the PM and took Oda’s advice, he’s been rebelling against this, doing good despite his inherent beliefs about morality and the world, and he’s absolutely gotten better for it.
Other characters embody this idea of rebelling against the absurd, hell, that’s kinda what this whole arc is about. The world is literally ending, and things seem to be at their absolute worst, but someone like Atsushi still has hope that he can change the minds of the hunting dogs and save reality as we know it. He even has hope that he can get through to a vampiric Akutagawa when the guy is literally brainwashed and attacking him. Aya as the “last hope” right now embodies this, too, deciding that she can’t just sit around and do nothing and then trying to remove the sword from Bram even though the effort appears futile.
But everything is going wrong right now. Fukuzawa is bleeding out, Dazai has just been shot through the forehead and appears to have died, Atsushi’s had his limbs ripped off and is at Akutagawa’s mercy, and Fukuchi is literally going to end the world! How can we have hope?!
Tumblr media
Think about BSD. Think about the story that’s been told so far. Surely Asagiri isn’t killing everyone right now, surely the world isn’t gonna actually end. I’m not entirely convinced Aya’s plan is gonna work— but please consider that the point of absurdist storytelling is that even when everything seems to be at its worst, even when life seems completely meaningless, there is inherent meaning in still continuing to fight against this.
BSD has never been a story where the villains win, and I don’t think it’s gonna start being one. I think, as usual, Asagiri wants to scare us, to make us feel hopeless about the situation, only for someone to pull through and completely turn the tides.
Dazai laying down and accepting his death at Chuuya’s hands is not going to be the end of his story, because it goes against everything Asagiri seems to stand for. Dazai wouldn’t just give up in his fight against Fyodor, because he needs to prove he’s right about what he says in this panel:
Tumblr media
"The ones who actually make the world turn are those who scream within the storm of uncertainty and run with flowing blood."
I think this reflects Asagiri's own beliefs and is also the reason why he is not going to let Dazai die like this, because in a way, that would be proving that Fyodor is right. From a storytelling perspective, it’d be saying “everything I’ve communicated up to this point actually means nothing and life is truly hopeless!”
Dazai has cheated death before, as has basically everyone else in danger right now. I promise you, something is going to happen and they’re all going to survive, because BSD is not trauma porn, for lack of a better term. It’s a story about how a group of people fight against the absurdity of their reality, even when everything seems completely and utterly hopeless.
There’s a lot of theories circulating about how things could work out, especially Dazai’s “death,” and I’m not here to repeat all of them, but I will say that a lot of them have credence, especially because Asagiri isn’t the type of author to make mistakes, every single detail has a distinct reason.
So even though I don't know how things are going to work out, I have full faith that they will, including Dazai's current situation. None of these characters are done just yet, they've got too much fight left in them to just give up.

BSD Boys With a Nervous Flier S/O
Tumblr media
For Amulet! <3
(I added Chuuya for me. :P)
Characters: Dazai Osamu, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Edogawa Ranpo, Nakahara Chuuya
Contents: NSFW jokes/references, fear of flying.
Tumblr media
Dazai Osamu
Don’t bother trying to hide it. Dazai can pick up on every tiny little tell, so unless you’ve got the world’s best poker face, he’ll figure it out before you say a single word. It’s all there, the shrunken pupils when he shows you the tickets, wiping your sweaty palms on your pants when you’re booking the taxi to the airport, the harsh, unsteady breathing when you’re queueing to check in.
For once, wisely, he drops the double suicide jokes. The last thing you need to think about right now is you or him dying, and he’s that much of an ass. Most of the time.
He wraps an arm around your shoulders, leaning in and whispering in your ear so it doesn’t carry to the other passengers in the boarding queue. “Guess what?”
You frown, distracted momentarily, and look at him. “What?”
His eyes glitter with mischief, and his smile widens into a full blown smirk. “You know how your ears sometimes pop when the cabin pressure changes? They say you should have chew gum or suck on candy.”
Your eyes narrow, suspicious. Dazai leans down to look into your eyes, grinning.
“I don’t have any candy, but I’ve got something you can su—oww!”
He deserved to have his foot trodden on, really. Dazai might pout, but internally he’s smug that his plan to distract you worked. He’s got plenty more like that up his sleeve.
Fyodor Dostoevsky
Flying with Fyodor is something different entirely. With the weight (and wallet) of the Decay of Angels behind him, he would never fly on a commercial airline. Normally he doesn’t care much - he’ll take a helicopter or some other type of solo plane. If he’s taking his precious myshka though, he’s flying in style.
Naturally, he already knows about your fear of flying.
You can take comfort in the fact that Fyodor has literally already thought of everything. There are multiple contingency plans for any conceivable emergency onboard the jet. He has a backup helicopter. There are parachutes. There are backup parachutes.
All you have to do is get dolled up and sit pretty on one of the luxurious recliner seats, being fed little tidbits of fruit and cake and sipping champagne. Fyodor has his laptop out, watching the endless screeds of incomprehensible information, one resting on your thigh, thumb tracing circles into your warm, soft skin.
If you want a sedative, he’ll allow it, though his tone is subtly disapproving. He doesn’t like seeing you passed out (unless he’s been the one to drug you or exhaust you, naturally.) Still, if it makes you feel better.
He has…other methods to distract you however. Ones you’ll learn all about when he orders the cabin crew out of the main seating area and draws the curtains. You’ll be flying so high you might not even notice you’ve landed.
Edogawa Ranpo
Ranpo has an easy solution to all your fears and anxieties—he’s such a baby that you have to look after him and you just won’t have time to worry about the plane going down, because you’ll be trying to convince him he can’t cram a whole gumball machine in his suitcase.
“It’ll fit!”
“You know it won’t! It’s physically impossible. You’re supposed to be a genius!”
“Well, I'm on vacation!”
He’s exuberant and excited to wander through Duty Free and buy all the varieties of chocolate and snacks they sell. Ranpo isn’t getting on that plane without snacks. Have you eaten plane food? That’s simply not going to cut it for the World’s Greatest Detective.
It’s almost…calculated, the way he seems to rush off to a new thing every time your jitters start coming back. Your heart starts to race, your mouth goes dry, and then you notice Ranpo is gone from your side again.
By the time you get onto the actual plane, you’re lowkey exhausted, and he still looks as smug as ever, his bag of chips rustling as he snacks in his seat. He opens his eyes, looks around the plane with that sharp, green gaze, then shrugs and settles against the backrest.
“Nothing wrong with the plane, we’ll be fine,” he declares, tossing a chip into his mouth. “Do you think they have Ramune?”
Nakahara Chuuya
Chuuya is a well-travelled guy due to his position as a Port Mafia executive and enforcer. It seems as if he gets sent abroad now and then to look after the mafia’s foreign interests and contracts. Koyo seems to stay back more, acting as Mori’s advisor, so it’s Chuuya who racks up the airmiles. He generally travels first or business class, because he’s not about to be back in the cattle runs—sorry, economy.
He’s so used to it by now that booking the flights, packing, and getting to the airport are a breeze. It’s so mundane to him that he’s a little surprised to find out how frightened you are. He has to admit, it’s kinda cute.
He lounges next to you in your first class seats, a glass of wine in one hand and your hip in the other, cuddling you against his side.
“Dollface, what’re you shakin’ for?” he teases, poking you in the ribs. “You forgettin’ who you’re flyin’ with?”
Oh. That’s right. Mr. Gravity Master himself.
“So if something happens, you could stop the plane falling?” you ask, almost in disbelief.
He scoffs. “What do you take me for? You’re gonna be on the safest flight in existence. They should be paying me to fly.”

Chuuya
Tumblr media
Chuuya is a proud man who isn’t afraid to show off what’s his, that includes you- his lover.
From countless precious gifts to extravagant dates at 5 star restaurants, he makes sure to shower and pamper you with anything and everything his money can buy.
Countless people around Yokohama envied you, just think about it! You were an extraordinary individual that caught the eye and affections of one of the port mafia executives.
At first, you began to feel confident- proud even. People would praise your beauty and admire your sense of mannerism, some even seeing you as inspiration and strived to follow in your footsteps in hopes to one day reach your achievements.
Unfortunately for you, every good thing must come to an end.
“I seriously don’t get what executive Chuuya Nakahara sees in such a plain individual.”, the sneaky comment filled with bitterness found its way to your ear as you passed by two lower rank workers.
Your steps faltered and you quickly fixated your gaze at the individuals with the full intent to snap back. Yet your words were cut short as you saw almost everyone’s eyes on you, their gaze filled with judgement as they looked you up and down.
Their eyes trailed from your legs to the expensive promise ring decorating your neck.
All of a sudden your body felt warm, your face feeling hot and your palms becoming damp as your mind swirled with self conscious thoughts.
“What is it? Wait- what did they say? Do I have something on me? Plain looking? Nono they couldn’t have possibly- Is there something on my face, why are they staring like that?”
Just as your mind began to fabricate irrational scenarios a loud and stern voice rang through the main lobby.
“The hell is wrong with you all? Is this what I pay you scum for, to gawk at my lover? Get back to work.”, as soon as the crowd heard the familiar harsh voice they all dispersed and ran off, leaving you standing utterly in a trance.
A familiar touch snapped you out of your thoughts as you turned and were face to face with your boyfriend.
Chuuya saw your somber expression and raised an eyebrow, wondering what happened. “Well you look upset, the hell happened?”, his question remained unanswered as you avoided the topic.
He decided not to push it and hung his arm around your shoulders as he led you to his office.
As you two walked you couldn’t help but look at him and wonder woefully if what the lower rank workers said was true.
“Just look at him…he is a port mafia executive, one of the strongest ability users the world has ever seen. He is handsome, rich, confident, proud, and admired by all…maybe they were right, how could he be with someone so plain?”, your mind spiraled. Your once bright and confident smile was now reduced to a sad frown.
Chuuya took note of your quietness and found it rather unlike you. Usually, you would spend hours upon hours talking to him about any event that went on in your life. He always payed close attention and loved the sparkle that shined so brightly in your eyes as you talked about the most unimportant thing. Chuuya could care less if the topic of conversation was relevant or not, he just liked hearing your voice…a voice that now- was crucially missing from his day.
He stopped walking as he noticed you looking at your promise ring with a doubtful look. His brows furrowed and he immediately questioned you again, looking into your eyes with concern and sternness. “What exactly did those assholes say to you?”, his voice demanding.
You knew you couldn’t lie to him so you told him everything they said. Your hands fidgeted with the promise ring as your voice trembled.
He immediately cursed out and condemned them all to hell. He cupped your cheek and told you to not listen to the words of envious low lives.
His words were full of determination as he reassured you he loved you, every breath you took was like a drug to him. Your voice was beautiful, your eyes were unlike any others, and your delicate mind should not stump itself with the opinions of irrelevant people.
He gently kissed your lips and wrapped his gloved hands around you…quietly whispering praises against your skin.
You were his everything, you weren’t plain- you were extraordinary. If he could, he would choose you over and over again…
Dazai
Tumblr media
Dazai, in short words, is very handsome- and he knows it.
He was trained from youth to easily sweet talk his way into getting anything he wanted.
And luckily for him…he managed to capture the most precious thing he wanted, your heart~
His love for you knows no bounds and he does everything to show it.
Late night talks, special dates, flirty texts, and constant “I love you” reminders.
You were sure of yourself, he worshipped the very ground you walked on. He was the most loyal and loving man you knew.
Yet who knew one simple comment would be enough to shatter the illusion…
“Oh to not be taken by such a lovely woman, pity” Dazai said dramatically towards a waitress, Clearly intending to tease and bring slight jealousy out of you…an innocent joke really.
Yet the only thing that sly comment brought out of you was insecurity. Your mind spiraled with questions and comparisons as your eyes drifted to the busy waitress.
Your eyes scanned her up and down, maybe he was right…she was lovely.
Days passed and all that filled your mind were negative criticisms of yourself and praises towards the waitress.
You began to recall any previous interactions your boyfriend had and blatantly blew them all out of proportion/context.
Afternoons were spent grabbing and pulling at your skin from your stomach to your back, hating any and every part you could grab as you felt nothing but flaws.
You began to subconsciously miss meals out of self loathing, hobbies were now shredded down to just hours upon hours of scrolling through social media as your mind grew dimmer.
Worst of all, anytime you looked at Dazai your heart ached, maybe he would be happier with someone worth his time and affection…
Dazai is a very observant and intelligent individual, so your frowns and quiet glances did not go unnoticed.
He observed your behavior and easily connected the dots…
Guilt and dread instantly filled his expression as you broke and confessed just how much of an impact that seemingly innocent comment had on you.
He held your hand and listened intently as you explained how you felt; the negative thoughts, the missing meals, and worst of all…the pure unworthiness you felt of his love.
Dazais words matched his eyes, full of sincerity and sadness as he apologized and reassured you he did not mean anything nefarious with that idiotic comment. His hands held onto your waist, gently soothing you as he spoke.
To him, your tears were earth shattering…how could he have so naively hurt his most precious jewel? His perfect love? His one and only…

Hello! I’ve been gone for like- 3 months.
A THIRD OF A PREGNANCY?!
Anyways, Star is back and I PROMISE I will try to get back on track with my writing.
On a side note: I wrote a lot for Chuuya, I wanted to change up the headcannons a bit and make it a little more story based (I hope it was okay).
Either way, I hope you all enjoyed these headcannons? Love you all so much! <3

I read the tags on your Kunikida post… go ahead and explain, my liege
JUST SAW THIS SOMEHOW ABYWAYS TYYY
OKAY so probably going into detail about how kunikida can be considered passively suicidal since i have the most coherent thoughts on that aand warnings for stuff of that nature under the cut :D + length
[also small disclaimer, i have been procrastinating reading dazais entrance exam and so far have only seen the anime adaptation which apparently left a ton of stuff out so feel free to correct me on inaccurate details and/or missed examples or just downright incorrect information]
[note: idk if passive is the correct term bc i was thinking about it and hes not exactly like oh i hope this kills me yk, so whatever that term is lmk <3]
This stuff also sorta ties in with his ideals and their potential self destructive-ness. they tend to cause him to either negligently often risk his life with there being an apparent “other way”, or just outright risk his life with barely a second thought for his ideals.
so kunikida has very strong morals and that’s the core of his character. the main ideals referenced in the show being his infamous “ideal woman”, “how to make dazai ideal”, and the ideal that basically tells him to save people. [i forgot what that one is referred to as]. If we’re talking timeline wise i think one of the first examples of his ideals causing him to negligently risk his life would be in Dazais Entrance Exam, or The Azure Messenger arc if you’re an anime watcher.
First example off the top of my head in dazais entrance exam would be when him and Dazai first see the hostages, specifically the ones in the room
Tumblr media
after the gas came down dazai has to actually wrestle kunikida away from the room because otherwise hes gonna die. kunikida repeatedly shouts about how “people shouldn’t die like this”. This might be a bit of a tangent but later on in the episode he remarks how he “may as well ahev set the bomb off himself” when Dazai asks about Rokuzou’s dad, implying he blames himself for Rokuzou’s dad’s death. This is of itself isn’t enough for me to say “oh yeah he’s passively suicidal” so moving on to the main manga where there are several other instances of his tendencies to throw himself directly in harms way.
Tumblr media
[there may be examples before this i just skipped to chapter 40] and starting off strong we have the thing with Aya. This could be written up to circumstance but he had the opportunity to avoid death himself so im counting it. he’s basically hugging death. that’s all i have to say for this.
of course he ends up surviving it because of deus ex machina yosano. After the fact, Aya asks him what he would’ve done if Yosano wasn’t there. To which he replies basically he would’ve done the same thing he just did except died and basically would have been fine with the outcome as long as she didn’t die in front of him. [he would’ve been dead as well and not had to deal with the guilt] i should point out as well, he does this because of his ideals. he specifically cites his ideals around these parts usually. The not letting anybody die before his eyes is one of ideals and the most common one he uses.
Tumblr media
[im pulling that from the fact he had no backup plans or anything to actually stop the bomb aside from Yosano, since his words could imply he would’ve tried to save Aya. and the guy with the bombs was using the fact Kunikida holds his ideals very close to him, taht he wouldn’t have allowed Aya to die if he could’ve prevented it.]
aaand i think our last example and best example for tonight
Tumblr media
context for the scene: they’re in the getaway helicopter and tecchou is trying to take it down via his sword and Kunikida decides to take matters into his own hands and take down Tecchou. First off, HE DID NOT HAVE TO, CHUUYA IS RIGHT. THERE. HE LITERALLY SHOT TECCHOU WITH GRAVITY BULLETS EARLIER.
HE DID NOT HAVE TO RISK HIMSELF BUT HE DID. also additional context, in this arc and the previous arcs, he’s been faced with situation after situation where his ideals have failed him and he’s been unable to exercise them and save the people he thinks he should.
point being, he feels like complete shit! he probably is thinking like if he should do anything then, it should be he makes sure he gets his friends out of there. regardless of whether he’s dead or alive because he jumps out of the plane and full body tackles tecchou while being in direct contact with fucking chuuya.
chuuya “has to stay out of the fights and arcs half the time because he’s too good at his job” nakahara.
chuuya “just shot tecchou and did a decent job at keeping him back a few pages before” nakahara. you see my point.
oh and then he just attempts to blow the both of them up.
Tumblr media
he does not care for his life at all here. not one bit. also he did not need to blow the both of them up. he could’ve made a fucking stun gun or anything else that wouldn’t KILL the BOTH of them??
my whole point is he does not care for his life here and it’s gets worse the more you progress through the manga.
anyways anyways ending off, kunikida repeatedly puts his life in danger either for his ideals or neglectfully and/or without need. this has been a ramble. this man is not okay.
also kinda funny is he’s partners with dazai of all people, actively suicidal princess bungou himself. i really enjoy their differences and how similarly different they are.
Tumblr media
^ not actually related to anything but i almost started laughing so hard with my family in the room at this piece, junichiro looks so concerned

Why Chuuya Nakahara works so well.
Chuuya’s popularity is crazy. For a character who isn’t even in the main group of protagonists or antagonists Chuuya is still probably the most popular character in the whole manga despite his role in the manga itself being quite small hehe.
Tumblr media
I’m sure people are going to say that Chuuya gets loads of attention in the light novels, but thats not the point, he was super popular before the light novels were adapted and widely read, heck i loved him just from season 2 where he fought love craft and he’d only appeared 3 times in the whole series so why is he so likable.
First: He has a good balance of great character traits.
Chuuya has a incredible mix of positive character traits that somehow don’t make him feel like a Mary-sue but instead make him really shine as a complicated and deep character
He’s Really strong but not overpowered, Chuuya is consistently called one of the strongest if not the strongest in the whole series, but somehow he still fights tough opponents so It never feels like he’s invincible or that he never struggles, his opponents Lovecraft, Verlaine, Rimbaud... are all monsters who pushed Chuuya to the very brink to defeat them.
Tumblr media
He’s funny, Chuuya and Dazai have some of the funniest dynamics I've seen in manga period, both Dazai’s crazy schemes and jokes as well as Chuuya’s reactions and comebacks are why I loved the 2 of them from the start
Tumblr media
He’s loyal, Chuuya shows incredible loyalty not only to the port mafia but to his friends and anyone who helps him out, he’s a person who will go out of his way to help out anyone he feels he owes something even if that person betrays him.
Tumblr media
His design is amazing, i’m not personally attracted to him but I can see why he’s got so many of you down bad
Tumblr media
He struggles and suffers, Chuuya dispite being the strongest in almost any situation has spent his life being yanked around by other people, first the sheep used him for protection, then Mori manipulated him with hostages, then he spent years being manipulated by Dazai, Verlaine also tried to control Chuuya and his future ect...
He loses so many people close to him, he suffers so much pain, being tortured and beaten in every fight he’s in. he also never really gets support since the people who help him normally end up dead or are cold Mafioso. The flags are killed, the Sheep betray him, his friends die in the Dragon Head conflict, Adam leaves, Dazai makes his life hell and he has no one who just unconditionally loves him like Dazai got with Oda.
He’s smol, he’s a little guy, just a lil dude, a short king, if we met I’d be 30cm taller than him and that’s hilarious, he’s so tiny.
Tumblr media
The other thing that makes Chuuya so popular is he doesn’t have a glaring bad character traits either.
He’s not super annoying, stupid, perverted, incopetent, preachy, whiny or really irritiating at all, he might not be your favourite but outside of his fanbase there aren’t many reasons to hate him.
He’s willing to kill but isn’t sadistic and doesn’t kill for fun.
He’s not egotistical even if he’s confident, and doesn’t bully people.
He’s not gross
He doesn’t get all preachy or whiny about how much he’s gone through and the pain he’s suffered even though he’s been through hell.
Sorry for the long post but I’ll just add that Chuuya is one of my favourite characters and if you’ve been wondering why he’s so popular I hope this helped you understand.

Although I’m a Caregiver Chuuya loyalist, I will admit that part 7 of the classification au has been my favourite so far. I’ve read the whole thing like 3 times.
I really hope we get more pre ADA stories but I will say I am excited to see more of Kunikida specifically. The fact that you characterised him as a gentle but no-nonsense caregiver is so perfect for him. Also the fact that he seems to approach taking care of Dazai from a completely different angle than Chuuya is going to be an interesting adjustment for the baby. I’ve already started to imagine a slight clash in the future between Kunikida and Chuuya as they struggle to coparent. Nothing hostile, but I like to think they’d be put off by the other at least at the beginning, and their approaches to caregiving. I like to think of a scenario where Chuuya’s with a regressed Ranpo, who mentions the time Kunikida put Dazai in time out, but his 5 year old communication skills and Chuu’s protectiveness and temper leading him to quickly jump to the conclusion that time out is something that Kunikida practices with Babyzai and goes full 👹 mode, losing his cool completely at least for a little while. Adult Dazai would probably find it hysterical that his ‘dog’ was so protective over him— only for it to lead to some fluff.
That aside, thank you for writing the classification au, it actually made me start watching BSD to begin with and it’s easily my favourite agere fic!
I’m so glad you liked it 😭 I was worried about how it would be received but thankfully mostly positive reviews haha
We will definitely get more ADA stories, I have at least two more ideas and I’m sure I’ll come up with more
I’m sure there will definitely be conflict later on. Kunikida will eventually learn Dazai did have another caregiver, but he won’t talk about him and obviously Dazai has signs of at the bare minimum emotional abuse, of course Kunikida will assume his previous caretaker wasn’t great. And I’m sure all Chuuya needs to hear is ‘Dazai’ and ‘time out’ in the same sentence before he goes ape shit 😭 they’ll work it out without having a custody battle
I’m so glad you like the series 😭🩷 it always blows my mind when i hear people started watching bsd because of it and im always wondering how skewed your expectations were 😭 Dazai isn’t the main character and Chuuya only in it for a collective 14 minutes and 28 seconds

Why I believe Chuuya will not only survive Mersault but ALSO have a major / meaningful role in future time. (Theory) (Hypothesis) (Insane Ramble) (You Name It!)
Tumblr media
First of all, I think it’s plain clear that Chuuya’s not dying here. Kinda.
There’s a lot to read, but I promise it’s worth it!! (Mostly if you’re worried about best boy best BSD and best animanga character ever, Chuuya Nakahara) (No bias here)
I will start with my main point which is related to Stormbringer, and then move on to other points. There is spoilers for a lot of stuff here!
Tumblr media
For those who haven’t read Stormbringer, I will try to give an introduction / context to the theme in the least detailed possible way I can, and even though like I said it won’t be very detailed or have major SB spoilers, it does describe the ending result of Verlaine’s plans as a whole and his state six years after, in the current BSD time.
So after Paul Verlaine, Chuuya’s crazy protective older brother, is forced into corruption and goes batshit insane and almost destroys Yokohama and possibly the entire world, Chuuya beats the shit out of him, they create this insane epic fight thing and after that everyone thinks Verlaine’s dead afterwards. (Except the Port Mafia) But he’s not! Dude decides that there’s no reason to be in the outer world (as there is literally no one he wants to see.) and stays in the fucking Port Mafia’s basement training the PM’s potential assassins (As he’s (one of ??) the best in the world, duh)
So all that shit goes down after much more other shit went down which I won’t talk about because it’s 1. Not related 2. I’m not that cruel as to spoil it entirely for those who haven’t read SB
And then the story tells how aside from training, Verlaine does no other thing rather than wait. Wait for what? His only reply is always “the storm.”
So this is where Chuuya kicks in!!
There is nothing alive that Verlaine could care about so much to constantly wait for other than Chuuya / Something that affects Chuuya considering Rimbaud is fucking dead. “The storm” is an ominous fucking name that makes you think “Oh damn, what’s gonna happen?” and for Verlaine to be INVOLVED in it to the point he’s waiting for it means it’s most definitely related to Chuuya, because just as only Chuuya could stop Verlaine in his corrupted form, aside from Dazai I think only Verlaine can stop Chuuya. (And let’s speak hypothetically if Chuuya went as batshit as Verlaine did and created this whole space time breach I don’t think Dazai would be able to cross it. That shit was deadly and Chuuya himself only survived because of 1. Adam’s weapon 2. He’s literally god)
Now I’m going to sound like fucking MatPat here, but if you think of the title “Storm Bringer” it’s basically the bringer of the storm, or like, the one who brings the storm. The storm Verlaine talks about, the insane storm only him and Chuuya can create, so the bringer of the storm is Chuuya, the Storm Bringer!!!! See that makes total sense and isn’t at all delusional
So if Chuuya fucking dies, then “the storm” Verlaine is waiting for is either something entirely different (which I doubt) or Asagiri forgot about it LMAO. (which I also doubt)
PLUS such a cliffhanger on the theme and something that is keeping Verlaine, the overpowered fuck, in waiting, probably means it’ll be important or at least memorable, which is good because Chuuya deserves some fucking screentime.
Also I’ve heard the rumor (key word: RUMOR; I don’t think it’s confirmed or at least I haven’t seen proof of so) that the novel to open BSD’s S4 will be SB, and in the last novels we’ve had implemented in the anime, they are chosen like that because they complement the events of the current timeline in some way, so if SB were to be chosen then it could probably add context for anime only watchers about something that *may* happen in Mersault, and it would be pointless if Chuuya just went gluglugluglu and went limp there. (If none of this happens, then fuck me!)
(Maybe the storm is coming sooner than we thought!!! I am not insane)
Tumblr media
Okay that’s all relating SB and now I’ll move on to these side bulletpoints that don’t really contribute to Chuuya getting a major role but DO contribute to my belief of Chuuya surviving.
* It’s fucking lame. Like okay fine I know authors mess up sometimes but if Chuuya just went and died there it would be the most disappointing, boring, lame, stupid, red-face-and-smoke-coming-out-of-ears-inducing EPIC FAIL in animanga history. I’m not even being biased here it would just suck. Chuuya’s entire story, character development, whole fucking world building relating him, and Asagiri’s comments in the SB afterword just feel like a huge buildup to something bigger, and for it to be just cut like that would be so plot convenient and boring and a let down and it would suck. And if he did just die there, maybe it could lead to some major catastrophe like Dazai feeling like crap (even more) or the PM going insane over it, but that would just make Chuuya a plot device!!! For other characters!!! I think NOT. Complex, well developed, strong ass Chuuya, being killed for the sake of the development of others? Or even worse, nobody gives a shit and some people just go boo hoo and whatever? Never!! And if that does happen I am rewriting BSD myself. (Jokes on you I don’t have the motivation)
* Dazai. Look I don’t really give a damn wether you see Soukoku as platonic or romantic because either way it kinda works, but there’s no denying that Dazai does give a shit about him. Although Dazai has sometimes done some mess ups in his plans (as he’s no omnipotent god unlike fanon sometimes presents him.) he usually has everything already predicted to the point it makes you think what the fuck man? And his methods are usually so dramatic and terrible for no reason, yes, but he’s never let Chuuya die. (Unless he died too, but if he died too then there should be other people dying too, because there is no way in hell he’d ever commit a double suicide with Chuuya, key SB where Mori tells him that and Dazai is like FUCK NO! and gets to work immediately.) “But wait!!! Dazai said there wasn’t any memorable moments which means he doesn’t care and he said goodbye.” Okay, he did, but what kind of utter fool actually believes the shit Dazai says?? Everyone knows that Dazai likes to be misleading because he’s a piece of shit, so why believe him now??? Honestly I don’t understand that fucking idiot sometimes, and there is No Way In Hell you can actually believe that everything Dazai says, mostly when he’s being obviously exaggerated, Is the plain truth. There could be the possibility that Dazai had no idea Fyodor would bring Chuuya there and shit and drowning Chuuya was his only option, and then he tried to give Chuuya this whole heartwarming goodbye but then was like ew and started hiding his feelings again and didn’t, but nonetheless he comes up with alternative plans in like, minutes. (Key SB, Again) And speaking of Fyodor bringing Chuuya, we move on to our next point!
* How in the flying fuck did Fyodor GET Chuuya to help him? Like first of all how was Chuuya even bitten??? Who brought him? What the hell?? Yes, this could be only for plot convenience and maybe it’ll go unexplained, but I like to think it was some sort of plan, wether from the PM, or just HOPING that maybe they’re working with Dazai too from the beginning.
* The Vampires. I don’t know if you guys have noticed, but the vampires eyes are progressively turning from black to white. Chuuya’s not the only example, as this is happening with Akutagawa too, so I’m wondering what the fuck that is and hoping it’s not an artistic error. (Which professionals obviously wouldn’t commit, but I would..) I’m still mentally debating wether Chuuya’s eyes changed to human or white the moment he was drowning, but I don’t think they’d show us that Right Before He Sinks only for him to drop dead. Bleh.
* THE WATER IS AGAINST ABILITIES BUT CHUUYA’S ABILITY ISN’T A REAL ABILITY. Plus, how do you know Nikolai wasn’t lying?? The whole prison layout was plain weird and BSD LOVES plot twists.
* You know which other plot twist bsd loves? “Haha bro’s dead oh wait no SIKE!!!!” This happened with Nikolai, Sigma, Kyouka, Kunikida, yada yada yada.
* CHUUYA IS STRONG AS FUCK AND so fucking cool guys. He is so fucking cool I spend hours in the mirror trying to do my hair slightly resemble his. No bias.
* I don’t think Fyodor’s dying either. Man looked pissed of though, so I’m curious about that.
Tumblr media
Like I said at the beginning I think it’s very obvious that there’s more to it than Chuuya just dying there, but there’s still people going Ooo no Chuuya dead fr. Maybe I’m just insane in denial or something but the crazy proof is there!! And I’m thinking these people are like, freaking out, not thinking enough about it (which honestly doesn’t really need mental gymnastics) or are just utter morons. Yeah. Gn. (It’s 3pm)
But that’s just a theory!

Finally caught up on the bungo stray dogs manga today. Here are my thoughts in no particular order.
Massive spoiler warning through ch 114.5!
Gotta say, I don’t think any of us guessed “functional immortality” for Fyodor’s ability. It does explain why he’s completely crazed and has such little respect for human life. The face peeling is gross but a little funny in how wacky and wild it is. Genuine questions: does Fyodor then gain that person’s body shape? Has he ever been killed by a woman before? Or a child? Does he get to steal Bram’s height now? What happens if he turns into an old person and dies of old age? What happens if he kills himself? When was he born and when did this ability manifest? Does he gain the new person’s ability as well as his own? Also, I have to give Asagiri credit for taking the most literal interpretation of Crime and Punishment ever. The Crime is murder of Fyodor and the Punishment is he becomes you. He takes your space in society. Delightfully literal.
Gogol’s sadness over Dostoyevsky felt really real my poor clown. However, with the reveal of Dostoyevsky’s ability, they are now the perfect couple. Gogol can kill Fyodor, achieving his goal of killing him, then Fyodor can become him, achieving Gogol’s goal of losing himself and Fyodor’s goal of having one less person constantly trying to kill him. Poetic cinema.
Gonna be laughing forever at Mori gluing the fake vampire teeth into Chuuya’s mouth and Chuuya’s inability to get them out. This is especially funny because this genuinely happened to me with my mom one Halloween and while we did get them out I was picking glue out of my teeth for a week.
I hope Bram isn’t gone forever because his relationship with Aya is beyond cute.
Is Aya’s dad that grumpy police detective? It looked like that in her vision.
I’m still not super satisfied with Fukuchi having good intentions. He’s been far too sadistic and blatantly evil for me to change my mind on him now. Little Fukuchi I can defend but I’m not changing my opinion on adult Fukuchi.
Fukuzawa stays the smartest man, taking the sword to the heart then pulling it away with him. Very “can I keep this” when someone gets stabbed meme of him. Also using it still as a blade? Inspired. All hail silver fox dad.
Ranpo is clearly still injured but doesn’t seem as injured as Asagiri teased us with. Aku still appears to be a vampire, we’ll see how that turns out.
Damn, Fukuchi will not die. This man has been bleeding from the neck and heart for several minutes at least and still is talking.
Considering the last ability singularity nearly destroyed all of Yokohama and the world, not looking forward to the results of a three-part singularity.
Fukuchi’s blade allowing him control over a small period of time I could accept but the gift of prophecy? Specific prophecy too? Kind of came out of left field, I don’t like that without knowing more about the sword’s creator.
Let’s be real, One Order should just be destroyed, it’s hella dangerous in anyone’s hands.
I don’t think we got told in advance that Bram’s sword combined person with ability. Maybe I just don’t remember but I don’t think so.
Fyodor’s goals continue to be murky as hell.
Convenient, that Fyodor’s ability also comes with a bit of teleportation, as he got from mid-Europe to Japan right quick.
I still need to know more about the war and I despair of ever receiving that info.
Love that all this is going down between Fyodor, Fukuchi, and Fukuzawa (too many fs) and Atsushi is just there like oh right I have a main character oops. I really hope vampirism wipes Akutagawa’s memories so he just jumps into this situation completely discombobulated, it’d be so funny.
When will sassy grandpa (Mori) return from war?
Hey Natsume what’s up, think maybe this is a good time to intervene?
Where the hell is Kouyou?

so i’ve been thinking
i know, dangerous
in all honesty, what is our cast of characters supposed to do about Fukuchi..?
i’ve already made my rant analysis (that you can read here if you’re interested) about how Fukuchi is really just an old man with a time traveling stabby stick that makes for a horrible OP villain. up until now, when presented with such a crisis, either soukoku or shin soukoku will partner up and defeat the big bad… or at least they had weaknesses, like Dostoy not anticipating Dazai was going to find him at the end of the cannibalism arc, or how most of his henchmen and underlings were eventually foiled or defeated to come to a satisfying conclusion that set us up for the next story beat. even Ranpo has his weaknesses, and his whole character is centered around knowing everything
well, we know for a fact that that’s not going to happen this time considering our usual duos and their friends are having some technical difficulties at the moment...
so that makes me think…
who is left to fight at this point..?
obviously we have Fukuzawa, who is currently fighting, and Atsushi is... around. but, the character on my mind the most at this point is Mori, since he’s been missing for quite a long time now. this by itself isn’t a big deal considering side characters often go literal years without any story time. however, this becomes a bit more interesting considering what’s happening to the rest of the Mafia and the world right now in bsd
so, i’m going to analyze some pieces that might be added to this 4d chess board of a story line. including more than just Mori. however, i’ll be talking about Mori quite a bit in this post, like almost half of it actually, so if you don’t feel like reading this, that’s fine
🔺minor spoiler warning for chapters 30/31, 50, and 84, and Dead Apple and Stormbringer. also spoilers for basically the entire current arc up to the most recent chapter as of writing this (ch 105) since i talk about most of the main events/situations🔻
I’ll start by taking a moment to talk about the European android everyone knows and loves(?) from Stormbringer…
Adam Frankenstein
Ah yes, the android, the myth, the legend, and the being that made me cringe so hard i got face cramps the first time I read him chewing and swallowing multiple pieces of gum like candy. That Adam.
We never see him or even hear of him in any other part of the story, including the main manga. He’s kind of just in Stormbringer and never brought up again, supposedly living somewhere in Europe doing android detective things. We haven’t even gotten a hint or any foreshadowing that he might show up in the main story, either. The reasons I think he may show up now are kind of simple to be honest.
He’s an android. That’s it. He’s, y’know, not made of flesh… And he doesn’t have blood.
What makes blood important right now? The vampires. Considering we know that Bram can transform a human, alive or otherwise, into one of his minions by ingesting their blood, we can probably assume that this is how it works for the other vampires as well. Therefore, Adam is at a major advantage against such an enemy since 1. his body is made of metal that couldn’t be damaged by Piano Man’s wire guillotine or regular bullets and survived the heat of Chuuya’s first Corruption with minimal damage, and 2. he doesn’t have blood. He does have this blue substance that I assume acts something like oil or fuel for his body, but since he’s most definitely not human, this doesn’t count as blood for him. He can’t be turned into a vampire. I don’t even think Fyodor could hack him or put a virus into his system, like he did to the Moby Dick (which is technically an ability that got turned into a mechanical ship). If anything, the vampires would just break their fangs trying to bite into his neck.
Since he’s in Europe, which is where our two jail kings and their entourage are, it’s more likely that Adam will appear in the jail scene with Dazai and Dostoy. I’d honestly be happy to see this because it would be interesting to see how he and Chuuya would interact now after so many years apart if Chuuya is ever cured of his, y’know, vampirism. Since he most definitely isn’t going to just die. It would also introduce a new character for people who haven’t read Stormbringer, which could reignite interest in this god forsaken arc for those of us who have given up on getting more than a few cliffhangers and a reminder that Fukuchi sucks every new chapter (trust me, I feel you).
Moving on to another semi-short analysis for a character we haven’t seen outside of light novels. And the mildly disappointing adaption of one said novel.
Shirase Buichirou
Another character who is also in Europe, specifically London, is Shirase. At the end of Stormbringer, he and Chuuya parted ways on somewhat good terms when Shirase heard of a group called the Stray Sheep in Europe, which he joined. Nothing has been heard of him since, similar to Adam. The only reasons I bring him up here is that 1. he’s in Europe, same as Adam and the jail kings, and 2. he is also connected to Chuuya (and is familiar with Dazai, to some degree, but this isn’t important).
I’m hesitant to say he’ll appear in the story considering we truly have no idea what the state of the BSD world is right now. Japan is overrun with vampires, and there’s probably nobody left there who hasn’t been bitten unless they’re a major character in the story (that hasn’t already been bitten). We know that the vampires have been moving out by disguising themselves with sunglasses and stuff to hide their eyes and complexion and getting on planes. Where those planes went to, we only know it’s somewhere overseas. There’s also mentions of fictional countries that only exist within the BSD world, similar to Kenji’s home town being a fictional one from a novel written by the irl Kenji. Fukuchi mentions he “needs to control half the nations’ armies” in order to carry out whatever plan he has, and it’s probably safe to say this has already come to fruition since he threatened to set the vampire army in motion if One Order wasn’t unlocked.
The likelihood of a character like Shirase appearing without being a vampire is much, much lower than Adam, and for more reasons than just because he’s a regular human. Shirase has no ability and is not named after an author or any other real-life person (that I know of), therefore it’s very unlikely he’ll be revealed to have one unless he wields an ability weapon like Fukuchi’s sword. Which is also highly unlikely. Given these conditions, he’s probably already been turned into a vampire along with the rest of the organization he joined. Another possibility for his inclusion is just to be killed off (by, perhaps, a vampire Chuuya). Or he might make a joint appearance with Adam, but I still doubt he’ll be a major character unless he’s there to die to further the plot.
Not to mention Asagiri has mentioned many times that Chuuya’s story is a long one that’s full of hardships, so perhaps one of those hardships may just be having to kill an old friend.
Sorry Shirase fans, but that’s just my thoughts on the matter.
From here on, I’ll be discussing Mori and how he’s appeared and disappeared throughout major story arcs and how he’s interacted with the ADA since the cannibalism arc. I know he’s apparently a controversial character to talk about because of his ability and the comments he makes about underage girls and whatever, so if you don’t feel like reading this part, that’s fine.
In case you’re interested in another character appearance, I have added a few honorary mentions at the bottom of this post.
Mori Ougai
Port Mafia Boss. Underground doctor. Ex-military doctor. A third of the Tripartite Framework. And one half of the first version of soukoku before it was known as soukoku.
His titles honestly don’t mean much to me as the only thing he continuously claims to motivate him is his position as the Boss, which is reasonable as his entire livelihood is dependent on the organization and its success. He fills his role well as a clear villain character with extremely black if not straight up non-existent morals, which we get plenty of examples of during the Dark Era, the Guild arc, and even the Cannibalism arc. The currently arc also proves that he’s both willing to provide some aid to the ADA, as well as make manipulative requests of them despite the horrible position they’re in currently for his own potential benefit. He is truly, wholeheartedly, an evil character.
What I want to focus on the most is his hand in moving the pieces on the chess board, so to speak. We know that Dazai and Dostoy are both sitting on the board, presumably in control of every piece, but is that really true? Remember, Dazai is only the way he is because Mori manipulated and taught him to be that way, which we can see from the parallels in how they act when making threats or doing something morally wrong. The comparison between Dazai’s attitude and Mori’s in chapter 30 is telling enough, seeing that Mori’s expression when he murdered the previous Boss 8 years ago (as well as when he talks with Hirotsu in this chapter) is almost identical to the one Dazai makes as he says his thinly veiled threat to do the same to Mori. The anime makes these expressions even more similar than they are in the manga, but I take everything studio bones does with a heavy grain of salt at this point… And not just with BSD
The last time we saw Mori was when he was mentioned in chapter 91 as the liaison who informed Tanizaki and Kenji that it was time to come out of hiding. He appeared normal and not infected by the vampire virus, which isn’t much of a surprise to me. Stormbringer showed that he’s more than capable of avoiding death, and by proxy, avoiding the master assassin Verlaine. It wouldn’t be much of a stretch to assume he was able to avoid the hive mind army of vampires that are just regular soldiers, and most of the ability users that have been infected are mafioso who Mori is very familiar with. However, whether or not he’ll intervene in the prison arc is not what I plan to discuss here.
The previous two characters would only make sense to appear in the prison because of their relationship to Chuuya and their location. Mori is Chuuya’s Boss, sure, and sure he probably wants to keep Dazai alive and on his radar, but Mori is still in Japan and knows that Meursault isn’t a place to be taken lightly.
No, I think Mori is about to become a player in the battle against Fukuchi.
My evidence isn’t necessarily anything concrete or even any foreshadowing, such as with chapter 84 when it was pretty obvious that Akutagawa was going to show up to aid Atsushi when he was saying he was all alone, or back in chapter 31 where it was obvious that soukoku was going to reunite for a big fight.
Fukuzawa, so far, has been the only person capable of standing up against Fukuchi alone and not being beaten within seconds (except Tachihara, but, well… yknow). So this alone is interesting to me because Fukuzawa is one of the strongest fighters in the ADA, and arguably one of the strongest fighters in the entire story considering his ability has nothing to do with his raw swordsmanship and martial arts skills. Keeping that small fact in mind, I want to jog your memory of the battle that happened in chapter 50 between Fukuzawa and Mori. Both of them are afflicted with the cannibalism virus, which is probably causing them to feel horrible with symptoms, but they still face off in a 1v1 that looks a little unfair. Mori has his ability, Elise, that does whatever he tells it to do and is basically a highly skilled and deadly combat ability. Fukuzawa, while still an ability user, only has his sword and his physical talents. His ability is a support ability that works on his subordinates, he can’t use it to fight like Mori or Fukuchi. However, he still holds his ground extremely well and even destroys Elise within minutes if not seconds of the fight starting, and Fukuzawa deals the fatal blow to Mori first. Even though Mori also severely wounds Fukuzawa just seconds later, it’s more important that this fight showed us that they are practically equal in combat skill. Not to mention Natsume makes an appearance to tell the two of them to stop fighting since both of their organizations need to survive to uphold the Tripartite Framework, which is something they both agree to disagree on basically.
There’s also the events of Dead Apple where, while under the effects of Shibusawa’s fog, Mori and Fukuzawa are fighting their own abilities and struggling. However, when they meet and switch opponents, they easily take down the other’s ability. They even share a few lines of dialogue that shows they’re familiar with each other’s fighting styles and tricks, similar to their explosive meeting in chapter 30 during the Guild Arc.
Now let’s look at the situation Fukuzawa is in right now. His subordinates are in all danger, and the only one that could potentially be coming to his aid is Atsushi, which is a possibility that I’ll mention at the end of this post. However, doesn’t this setup of our protagonists in a life-or-death situation with no help in sight, seem a little familiar to you?
Dazai was surrounded by soldiers in chapter 31 when Chuuya arrived to (begrudgingly) help him out, on Mori’s orders. Dazai was literally dead in Dead Apple when Chuuya showed up to punch him in the face (deserved) to save him.
Atsushi rarely wins on his own, but with Akutagawa’s help and the singularity created by their combined abilities, they’re able to defeat almost any enemy. And when Atsushi was desperate for help in chapter 84, Akutagawa arrived, even if it was on Dazai’s orders.
Fukuzawa is currently losing the fight against the OP time traveling stabby stick wielding grandpa, putting him in a dire situation of trying to save the ADA while not dying in the process. So, will Mori come out from wherever he’s hiding to provide aid to Fukuzawa? Will zenki soukoku come back and parallel the other soukoku’s reuniting/working together to defeat the big bad? It’s hard to say, honestly, but I do believe it’s entirely possible considering Mori has been strangely missing in the story after agreeing to aid the ADA. Well, the ADA needs aid. Badly. And it’s about time they finally got some.
I think Fukuzawa and Mori have the potential to defeat Fukuchi together considering their both equal in strength, so perhaps putting their finely tuned skills together is what will prove to be our deus ex machina that defeats Fukuchi’s self-induced deus ex machinas that are honestly getting pretty damn tiring at this point.
There’s also the fact that Mori had originally agreed to aid the ADA on the condition that one of their members transfers to the Mafia, so perhaps Mori showing up to aid Fukuzawa will be a manipulation tactic to force them to agree to let him choose who he wants to join, since he only actually wants Yosano out of the deal. However, it’s possible that maybe Tanizaki will be the one to change organizations? He did offer to go in Yosano’s stead in chapter 65 when the deal was originally proposed by Mori, who straight up lied about what Fukuzawa told him over the phone that the one person Mori couldn’t choose was Yosano. Mori is a very, very smart man, so he probably knows that if he forces the ADA into enough of a corner under the guise of helping them, he can get what he wants out of them as well. He could also allow the majority/some of the ADA members to die or come close to force Yosano to heal them and work for him one way or another, since we saw in her backstory in the military that Mori isn’t above shooting someone to make Yosano heal them because now they’re “close to death”. He most likely hasn’t changed much in those ways over the years, so I’m expecting to see some extreme manipulation taking place on his part if he does come back into the story.
Honorable mentions that came to mind as I was working to gather potential suspects:
Atsushi
He’s there, kind of, I guess. So much of the arc recently has been like 2 pages of one perspective before changing to the next that I’m not even sure if he’s still the main protagonist anymore. /j
Since he’s also at the airport where this whole *gestures wildly* thing is happening between the two Fuku’s, it would make sense that he at least shows up during the fight. We also know he’s actively looking for Fukuzawa because he can’t decide on what to do next now that he knows what the DOA is after.
The only way I see Atsushi being implemented in the battle is if he gets super upset or angry over seeing all his friends and coworkers in serious trouble, and either Fukuzawa releases his ability (if that’s even possible) from Atsushi and allows him to use the full power of the White Tiger to fight Fukuchi, which could potentially defeat the time-traveling sword since the Tiger’s claws can cut through abilities. The other option is he goes feral? I don’t really know to be honest. Maybe he just gets his ass beat again by Fukuchi. Who knows. I’ll just be over here preparing the party poppers for Kunikida’s promotion I guess.
Verlaine
Why? For fun.
He’s never appeared in the main story line since he lives in the Port Mafia’s basement basically. But considering the Mafia kinda went up in flames (or vampires, I guess) it’s possible he’s on the move now. Whether he’d appear in the jail, to save Chuuya, or appear at the airport, potentially under Mori’s orders, I honestly don’t know. But, since he’s part of the Mafia and another character we haven’t seen, and the cover of volume 22 as well as other official artwork has been featuring several Stormbringer and Sheep references, some people believe we might be seeing someone from that cast of characters in an upcoming chapter. But honestly I think they might be on as much copium as I am…
It would be funny to see Verlaine show up and just crush Fukuchi in like 3 seconds while the rest of the protagonists couldn’t defeat him though.
Ango?
We see Ango last in chapter 95 when it’s revealed he’s the one that demanded a seal be put on One Order, at Dazai’s request as part of his plan to counter Dostoy. He hasn’t been a big player in this arc beyond being the coordinator early on for the ADA’s moves, but since they all were reunited and came up with their own plans, he’s been more active as just a background character acting on the messages from Dazai. But, since he is the final piece of the Tripartite Framework, I thought I’d just mention him here as well. Natsume clearly wants the three organizations to work together, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Dazai has also given Ango a message or plan to relay to Mori. I don’t think he’ll ever be a super big part of the current events, though, just more of the background coordinator.
The Guild?
We kind of see them and then we don’t. We know Fitzgerald wants to work with whoever is winning, which as far as we know, he thinks is going to be the ADA. He was giving them aid in exchange for Yosano healing Mitchell, but we don’t really see anything come after this agreement is made? Atsushi and Kyouka get into one ambulance with Mitchell inside to bring her to Yosano, and at the same time, Yosano (along with Tanizaki and Kenji) are attacked by the government who set up their own trap unknown to Fitzgerald and Atsushi. We know Fitzgerald didn’t set them up because in the first few pages after we see the government attacking, we see Fitzgerald explaining why he didn’t go with the 74 plans Alcott prepared that included selling out the Agency’s location. Technically, it only happened because Tachihara is a Hunting Dog, so he betrayed the location of the meeting since Mori sent him and the other Black Lizard captains for security, and Tachihara is using his metal manipulation to pretend as if there’s an ability user attacking them with the government so they have to retreat after Kenji is severely injured. He’s also there to prevent Atsushi from reuniting with Yosano just a few minutes later. Which is truly impressive since he’s technically fighting himself the entire time? Wow is that symbolism of him as a character if I’ve ever seen it, that’s for sure. Not to mention he also stabs himself with Gin’s knife, just *chefs kiss* of a character I really wish he wasn’t killed/vampire-d whatever the fuck happened because he deserved so much better. But anyway, we never see the Guild again after this. So we have no idea what they’re currently doing, nor have we seen the other branch of the “Guild” that Steinbeck created at the end of the Guild arc since the end of that arc. So, I doubt they’ll come back.
The Clock Tower?
They’d have jurisdiction over Meursault, but it’s hard to say if they’ll step in. They haven’t been a part of the story at all beside Agatha’s little cameo from chapter 12. On a side note, I believe Agatha’s ability will be something along the lines of causing death in accordance to the lines in the poem “Ten Little Soldiers” (obviously I’m not putting the original name here) since her ability is named after the mystery novel And Then There Were None that’s about ten people dying on an island of various means that follow the reasons in the rhyme of the poem. It’s quite interesting, actually. But back to my main point, I don’t really see why they would suddenly come into the story now. If anything, they might appear if Fukuchi decides to try and use his vampire army against the governments of the world and create a world-wide coup d’etat with One Order.
Is this a copium-driven fever dream of a hope to have? Haha, fuck yeah it is! But I’ll let the copium win today if it means having at least a little hope that Fukuchi’s arc of shitty OP-ness will come to an end soon. Please. Asagiri I’m begging. I’m on my knees. Just PLEASE
Anyways, that's my thoughts on the matter. This theory was a little out there and not really based on too much evidence, but I still felt the need to write up this post, or else the brainrot might actually get my final braincell and it'd be all downhill from there.
As always, I hope you enjoyed, and thanks for reading. If you have your own idea of what you think will be the thing to defeat Fukuchi, feel free to say it in the comments or send a message to my Inbox on my profile. We can cope theorize together :)
**i just finished editing this oh my god this is so long i’m sorry i just had a lot of brainrot about this and i’m desperately awaiting whatever is going to end Fukuchi to the point i want to do it myself

I saw your “two wolves” art after the latest manga chapter so I have an idea, but I still gotta ask- HOW ARE YOU COPING AFTER SEEING DAZAI SHOT UP LIKE THAT??? Do you think he’s dead dead, or that there’ll be a timey wimey rewind thing where he’ll come back? I desperately need him alive, but I also don’t want them to lose memories of this, ya know? Do you think this is all part of some great SKK plan (operation goodbye?👀) or is Dazai really just losing for the first (second, if you count Oda 🙈) time in his life?
To be honest, the very first post I saw about the new chapter was Nawy’s analysis of the bullet impacts in the wall, which quickly convinced me that Dazai was not actually shot in the head, so I haven’t been worried at all 😅
But even if the being-able-to-talk-after-getting-shot-in-the-head thing was just an oversight on Asagiri’s part, I still wouldn’t be convinced that he’s gonna stay dead, because people just don’t tend to die in this manga. Really the only major character that’s died so far is Oda, and that was in a flashback that served a narrative purpose. There’s not much narrative weight to Dazai dying at this point in the story, and in this manner. It doesn’t feed into his character arc, and the rest of the agency isn’t even there to be affected by it. To have it happen so far away from the rest of the main cast would be…weird.
…Plus since Dazai is a) Asagiri’s blorbo and b) a big draw for a lot of fans, it would be very bold to kill him off lol — so be it due to timetravel, skk shenanigans, or a secret third thing, I genuinely think he’s going to be fine!
All that said, even if this is all part of some grand overarching scheme, I remain convinced that Dazai was not expecting Chuuya to shoot him in the shoulder first, because that seemed like genuine outrage on Dazai’s part XD

i made a poll about whether people think chuuya is the original or the clone, and @rennbo asked me to elaborate on why i support the chuuya as a clone theory, which was much appreciated, so i put together some of my thoughts.
(please be warned, this was written on my phone in my notes app, and i don't currently have access to my copy of stormbringer. i'll go back in and edit it when i can!)
so first i’m going to look at stormbringer itself, wherein we’re told that chuuya is a clone (and we briefly see the other chuuya, who is supposedly the original). from what I can remember, and please bear in mind I don’t actually have my copy of stormbringer with me so there might be something else, the main evidence that implies chuuya is the original is the scar on his wrist, which the other one doesn’t have? i’m willing to dismiss this for a theory i like. in terms of given evidence, i think there’s much more that he is the clone, not only because that is explicitly what we’re told, but also because the only other character who actually contains a singularity is verlaine, who was artificially constructed. both guivre and arahabaki exist as ultrapowerful, interdimensional, and almost certainly sentient beings, contained within a vessel: if one vessel was artificially constructed then i think the very fact that there is any evidence for chuuya to be also artificially constructed means that he was.
but honestly, the main reason I think that chuuya is the clone is less due to evidence and more due to symbolism, and how chuuya’s character works alongside two others: namely, paul verlaine and dazai osamu. chuuya works as a foil for both of them, and i genuinely think that him being a clone not only adds to that, but adds to it significantly.
verlaine is himself an artificial creation, and he is constantly fighting himself over whether he’s human or not. his only friend was rimbaud, and he owed (or at least saw himself as owing) everything he was to him. his loyalty was never to the french government, but rather solely rimbaud. however, and again be aware this is my interpretation of it; because he gained everything from rimbaud, even his name, arthur became almost another creator for him. that loyalty was not unconditional, especially after verlaine’s history, and it faltered when verlaine found “another version of himself” in chuuya and had to decide if “he” would once again choose his creator or freedom. he sees chuuya as the only other being in the world who can relate to him, and he’s willing to do anything to have that, because he cannot see himself as possibly having a family any other way.
(side note because it isn’t really in my main idea but I also think adam adds an interesting counterpart to this dynamic, in that he isn’t human and has no interest in being one, however much he likes them.)
dazai is human, but everything about his characterisation is designed otherwise (i’m talking pm!dazai here, though of course ada!dazai has his own displays of this). his nickname is about him being a demon rather than human. his attitude is cold and detached from everything and often seen as inhuman by other characters. his very ability is called ‘no longer human’. chuuya is very clearly his counterpart, which is both why they fought so much and why they worked so well together. where one is brash, one is calm. one is strength, one is smarts. one is driven by emotion, one is near emotionless. i can’t properly think of how to say this, but it seems only right that one of them should be human but still seen as a created experiment, and one should be artificially created but all too human despite that. this is especially notable when you consider that there is a certain line to be drawn between professor n literally creating chuuya and mori creating what dazai was.
and ultimately, chuuya is neither of them, and so in this can act as a foil to both. despite coming from a similar background to verlaine, he is able to let go of what has happened and form his relationships based on friendship. he sees the good in people, rather than distrusting them based on past circumstances. and he’s not like dazai, who is calculating and able to separate himself from whatever plans he is making and their results, because chuuya is driven by emotion and forms bonds as easily as breathing. if chuuya is a clone then the choices he makes and how it counters and contrasts verlaine and dazai works, in my opinion, far more compellingly than if he was the original human. it adds a lot more to his character and his relationships, knowing that what he has is more important than what he is. He is human, clone or not, and the fact that this is what he chooses is just another way he adds into the story.
also if chuuya isn’t a clone then the whole of stormbringer is based on a misunderstanding, and i love that book too much to let that be the case.

Fyodor’s Ability
I think we all agree there is no way Asagiri killed off a character like Fyodor without giving us any information about his ability, past, etc. without a plan. And I think that he may just have survived using this unknown ability.
We know Fyodor’s ability probably has something to do with physical contact. It seems so far like anyone who touches Fyodor dies instantly. Now if this is true, it means that the victim will only die if Fyodor has his ability… activated? Idk. I say this because him and Nikolai literally held hands and Nikolai isn’t dead yet (unless gloves prevent it?). However, I find it hard to believe a character like Fyodor would be given an ability so black-and-white as just touch and you die. In fact, I don’t think death is even the main function of his ability. I think his ability has something to do with manipulating the conscious of himself and others.
If that were the case, it would explain how he could communicate with the outside world. Maybe sending messages into an outsider’s conscious. But my main point to prove this is when he “he won’t wake up again” or something like that after Sigma “died”. Maybe Fyodor didn’t kill Sigma himself, but rather he killed Sigma’s consciousness. So his body is still alive, it’s just that he can no longer control it. And here is how I think Fyodor is alive.
Think about how before Chuuya uses corruption, he says a certain phrase to activate it kind of. He has to say a phrase before he can use the most powerful part of his ability. Before he “died”, Fyodor said “Eli, Eli, lama sabatchtani?” (I later find out is a verse from the Bible). Maybe it’s similar to Chuuya, where he has to say a phrase before he can use the greatest aspect of his power. And just maybe, that greatest aspect, is the ability to transfer his own consciousness into someone else’s body. “Someone”, as in Sigma.
I think obviously for Fyodor to be able to manipulate someone’s consciousness, he has to have touched them before. Maybe when somebody instantly dies after being touched by Fyodor, it’s just him manipulating their conscious to.. idk.. implode on itself? Cause an aneurysm? Something like that. Maybe what Fyodor did to Sigma was kind of like, turning off his conscious. Maybe Sigma did just pass out from information overload, and Fyodor used that as an opportunity to stop his conscious from waking him up, so that in the scenario that Fyodor would “die”, he could transfer his own consciousness to Sigma before his body died.
But why Sigma? I think the most likely reason is because it would be easy to infiltrate the ADA. Sigma is a perfect candidate for the Agency, and what he went through at Mersault should count as an entrance exam on its own. Fyodor has amazing acting skills, he could easily pretend to be Sigma. And maybe throughout this, Sigma can see everything happening but can’t control any of it. Trapped in his own body watching everyone around him be manipulated by himself knowing he can’t do anything. That means (literally) internal conflict as Sigma tries to win back control of his own self.
or I’m entirely wrong about all of this. Idk.

Now I’ll say this.
It would be a great way for Dazai to actually be dead. He’s done what he set out to do: right some wrongs, fuck around with Chuuya a bit, help out a few Orphans, etc. He’s had, more or less, a ‘character arc’ even if it’s not in the main story proper. And after we’ve seen the Atsushi can use the vision of Dazai to move himself, we know our protag doesn’t need his physical mentor as much. We’ve also learned Atsushi’s claws can more or less do the thing we rely on Dazai to do in the plot(nullify problem abilities).
This is a fine time to retire Dazai’s character.
I don’t want it retired, mind you, I’m just saying I can see the vision.
And I can say all this with a handwave and a shrug because like. If I had a nickel for everytime my favorite mentor character was literally shot in the head and then is considered alive somewhere off scene-I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but…
So I don’t think he is dead. Critically injured, definitely. Dead? No.

Just dumping some thoughts on Fyodor/Chapter 107 (fyi manga spoilers)
This is mostly me just speculating/rambling as I wait for the new chapter to drop.
I was rereading some of the manga and came back to this panel and it got me thinking….
Tumblr media
So obviously Fyodor is referring to Sigma here but with the conclusion of chapter 107 I wonder if this can be applied to Fyodor as well, potentially foreshadowing something. Hear me out. We see again and again how meticulous and calculating Fyodor is with carrying out his plans, often being compared to Dazai and carrying an air of unpredictability around him. Here, Fyodor is suggesting that Sigma is “the strongest” because they have no past which drives them to fight against the Hunting Dogs to protect the casino, thus being desperate to save the only thing that holds any value and purpose to them.
Now I gotta be nit picky with Fyodor’s wording here. Let’s be real: there’s nothing “common” (or “ordinary” in another translation I saw) about Sigma; they’re an ability user born from the novel only a few years prior to the main story. On top of that, their ability allows them to exchange information with anyone they touch and BSD loves to emphasize that information can be a powerful weapon. Fyodor reduces Sigma to an “ordinary man” to assert control over them, stripping away their agency and self-esteem as a result making them more vulnerable to his manipulation.
Of course Fyodor isn’t “common”/“ordinary” either; he’s a terrorist with an unknown ability.
Tumblr media
Fyodor is presumably backed into a corner. Sigma has not only shot him but calls him out on his bs with their gun pointed at him. And Fyodor has already sent Chuuya out to go after Dazai. Keep in mind that Sigma isn’t just threatening him with the gun but with their ability as well. As far as we know, no one has any knowledge on what Fyodor’s ability really is and how it exactly functions, only that it can be activated upon touch.
Which leads me back to one of Fyodor and Dazai’s conversations in Mersault:
Tumblr media
So Dazai is rebutting Fyodor’s statement of “God prefers perfection and harmony” by arguing that “all he offers is happenstance and absurdity, a weakness shared by the two of us”. He goes on to say that “what’s driving the world are those in the storm of accidental events who scream, run, and spill blood.”In summary, Dazai is suggesting that no matter how cautious and thorough their plans/strategies are, both he and Fyodor can not always precisely predict the actions and choices others will make. Sigma is included in that panel, implying that he could potentially be an oversight in Fyodor’s operation. Especially considering that he only needed Sigma for the location of the page and sky casino.
Of course I didn’t forget about the note.
Tumblr media
It is still unclear as to who wrote the note, who’s it written to, and why. It is written in Russian but was it Fyodor (Nikolai is still somewhere)? Who is the note meant for? What is the purpose? It’s meant to be discovered, but by whom? All of that is still up in the air.
And now we’re here.
Tumblr media
With all that said, have the tables turned and is Fyodor now a “common man” who is desperate? And if Fyodor really is in his moment of desperation, what would his last resort look like? Because I highly doubt he will just give up right here and now (I mean, being in prison couldn’t stop him). And there’s still the mystery of Fyodor’s identity as Sigma suggests. Fyodor is an intimidating character in the sense that he is unpredictable and will use any means necessary to achieve his goal.
I don’t want to reach to any conclusions yet, there’s so much uncertainty as to what will happen so I’d like to go into the new chapter with an open mind.
