I read your gf's kybuttman fanfic (10/10 all of them) and I was wondering if you had any more fanfic recommendations that were like that, not even necessarily for that ship, you just seem to have to have the exact same taste as me so I think any of your suggestions would be good tbh

first of all, thank you and you're correct she's a fantastic writer with brilliant ideas!! but second of all, I don't actually read a lot of fanfics.. sdsfs I did read all of hers', along with some she hasn't posted yet so I can whole heartedly recommend all of them to you. some are sexy, some are just cute gen ones.. she managed to write a lot so far!!

I'm not sure which of the buttkyman fics you've read because she has 2 that are in the same universe! if you meant You Can Let Yourself Go (with handsome butters) then she's actually planning on finishing it up really soon so it's worth to look forward to!!

if you like buttman there's this fantastic fic I found a while back and even drew for but apparently never posted here.. anyway called Sweet Dreams (and Bold Choices) by nodeadline. they also did a kenman one called BFF (Boob Fucking Forever) that's really good!

and if you like my taste in ships it would mean stenny too?? so I read this really nice stenny a while ago too that I would recommend! called Ars Gratia Artis by nevermakemeblue. they're very close to how I see stenny so it was wonderful 🥺✨

I’ve come to a realization that I’m a bit of a duct tape programmer. Don’t get me wrong, I love some solid well-thought-out engineering and on occasion can show some forethought, but today is not one of those days.

Currently, I have VSCode hooked into a mainframe, and COBOL serving JSON requests. There’s a shitload of adapters involved and all I can smell is PVC from a hardware stores plumbing aisle.

For the past week or three, I’ve been teaching myself fucking COBOL and trying to learn zOS. It’s been a bit of a shock wading through IBM manuals and learning about these strange archaic and cutting edge boxes, but I’m adapting to the environment. Rather than simply using my bolt-on tools (Such as the wonderful ports of FOSS tools to zOS by the folks at Rocket) and cruft I’m opting for a balanced approach. Jank at with VSCode / SSH sessions and whatnot and only a 3270 for when I’m at work. So how the fuck do you use VSCode for COBOL on zOS?

In short: COBOL syntax packs, FakeVim, network mapping SFTP drives, writing out to USS, having scripts for packing/encoding bidirectionally from PDS and then having a JCL card handy in USS to cat, iconv and submit (via the submit command). In theory, you could get away from viewing the output with SDSF, but it’s more/less right there anyway. It’s a little screwy but only requires a save from VSCode, running a command to submit and then flipping over to my 3270.

COBOL web services are a little more screwy but linear. In short: Browser -> JSON marshalled post -> IHS -> CGI bash script (parse env, template to JCL card) -> sh submit -> Run pgm as user for DB2 access -> read data from templated DDs and process/verify query/submission -> Unmarshall JSON into COBOL types and process request -> Marshall data -> Write to Unix file -> CGI script sees GUID of file and serves res -> IHS deals with encoding.

Goddamn, I wish I had access to zOS Connect or something. That’s super janky.

(Seriously though, mad props to the guys at Rocket. I couldn't get golang for zOS working properly, but it would have made this 100x less crufty. I'll RTFM and give it another shot soon)
