My name is—
[these were done for a gift exchange, in which @lore-pls opted into a bunch of less-typical fanwork media, including bredlik poems! and I thought, hey, Chaos beasties would be such fun for that format.]
carnage
my name is Hound am good Khorne dog! at master's side through guts i slog.
we fight his foes i chomp and gnash! the armor crunch. the blood go splash.
he keep the skulls but that okay! there lots more bones for us to play.
he throw a leg i run to catch! best part of war is playing fetch.
entropy
my name is Lord cuz am the best!! on master's ship i make a nest~
with broken wires and bits of skin with all my friends for hiding in. o_o
when we find worlds to go make war i stand up tall make mighty roar! \o/
then master say get off his head, it serious business prop-gating dread. :/
excess
my name is Fiend am super quick! i run through shadows bold and slick.
don't have a master— got whole warband to sail the stars to raid the land.
they fight real hard they bring back loot i check it out: poke with my snoot.
and once they all have had their drugs i go to pester, get all the hugs.
mutability
my name is Screm— it what i do— and master's words i carry through.
and when he sad when things go wrong i sneak inside sing him a song.
he miss his sons now all is dust and his brothers hard to trust.
i snuggle close, i lik his chin. he still got fren! i stay with him.

The Screamers of Tzeentch, with their thirst for the extremes of human emotion, were actually an idea of the Pleasure God, Slaanesh. However, the Changer deceived The Lord of Pleasure and manifested the daemons before Slaanesh did, making obsolete the myriad "proto daemons" the Lord of Excess was testing and trying.
Unwilling to be marked as copying or unoriginal to Tzeentch, Slaanesh was forced to abandon the idea for these daemons, instead creating the Steeds of Slaanesh. Slaanesh's steeds can flirt with time itself, and this grants them their immense speed.
Like Snakes and Mongooses, if Screamers and Steeds encounter one another in the wilds of the warp, it is on sight aggression.

Magnus & Musings
Greetings to you all. You may call me the Mysterious Hermit, and I am the human behind the blog. I think I've procrastinated long enough on making a proper pinned post, so allow me to do so now.
If you follow this account, know you will see more than just rp threads. You will most likely see artwork and writing, the occasional lore post, or just some banter. I am a mostly-rp account. Not every post is or will be in character.
The contents of this post will be as follows: > RP Expectations/Rules >My Portrayal of Magnus the Red >Side Muses Bios
RP Expectations/Rules What I do not rp/answer to:
I do not do NSFW rp of any kind, nor do I entertain NSFW asks of any kind.
I prefer mostly-serious threads. I do not mind the occasional banter, but PLEASE do not come spamming old TTS memes/recycled grimdank memes in my ask box.
What I would like as a thread/expectations you should have when starting a thread with me:
I do not mind doing crossovers! If I am not familiar with the original property/your OCs backstory/etc., I may ask about it.
I am willing to do threads during the Crusade/Heresy and the modern 40k era. If you do not specify which you would like, I'll most likely assume 40k.
I am sometimes very, very slow to respond. Please be patient, or hit me up if it's been a while and you want to continue a thread I might've dropped.
I try to match length in responses as best I can, but please do not feel pressured to do the same. All that I ask is multi-para replies do not get one singular sentence.
The Portrayal of Magnus the Red:
I try to stay as close to canon as I can, though occasionally I may deviate. I enjoy playing him as a complicated "road to hell paved with good intentions" kind of character, with all the hallmarks of his famous arrogance and gigantamax-brain-ness on display.
In the modern day, I have him currently focusing on his New Kingdom project, where he is trying to terramorph Prospero so that it is decently inhabitable again while training the human psykers who are being drawn to Sortiarius in droves. Instead of Prospero being a gunshop, I am instead running it as the future home of the human population, while Sortiarius stays for the Legion. There will still be industry on Prospero's surface, but to a lesser extent than to what has been described, since I just find it way more interesting.
Side Muses:
Kazakh, Daemon of Tzeentch
Kazakh is a small, brightly-colored daemonic bird who has been given the order of keeping an eye on Magnus. He generally acts as his small daemonic messenger and sometimes emotional support daemon if the time requires. He has a penchant for hoarding shiny objects within the fluff of his chest, and usually takes shiny things as payment for being a messenger or to get him to screw off. Though sometimes in response to the latter, he'll show off his very shiny knives. He has once tried to cut Fulgrim himself for not coughing up a shiny bauble for him.
Zikar-Sin, Master of Possession
Zikar-Sin is a former Thousand Son returning to the Legion for the first time in millennia. He still considers himself a Word Bearer, having been attached to a Host for these past few thousand years, but is happy to be returning to his parent Legion. His role in the creation of the New Kingdom has largely involved him aiding in the reconstruction of a viable biosphere, or helping to integrate the inbound humans to the teachings of the Legion. His sorcerous mastery mostly lies within diabolism, but he was an Athaenean in the ages long since past, and his telekinetic mastery has also improved. He can also be found accompanied by his tutelary, Sepa, who joins him in the form of small twin screamers.

The Chaos Wastes
Xhârn surveyed his legions from on high, his chariot pulled along by chained beasts. Behind him, the great Forge-Lair he had plundered was no more. Xhârn had sent his own armies to duel and best the daemons within and take their resources. Weapons, daemon-machines, but most of all the forge-daemons themselves.
Every bested daemon in his legion was a daemonic blacksmith and the cut of their horns made that readily apparent. They were manacled, shackled to one another, shuffling along. Barely considered Bloodletters any longer, these lot were more mild than a typical skulltaker. It disgusted Xhârn, that anyone calling Khorne their father could be so weak, so bested.
But then, he could hardly cast any aspersions himself.
Every once in a while, one of the clip-horned ingrates would steal a glance at him, unmistakable fury and revulsion burning in their eyes. And Xhârn would feel his hackles stand in challenge. Sometimes he would descend, directing his burden-beasts to the offender and show them the end of his talons. But he didn't kill them, for the Wastes had few forge-daemons to spare and his master desired all he could take.
His new master. For it was not Khorne or even Malal that he served now. It wasn't Gorebeasts pulling his chariot but Daemonic skysharks, and the red fury of the Blood God burned in the Herald's eyes no longer. The flesh and bone of his arms ended at his elbows; from there was arcane artifice and metal, the runes upon it's surface the same glowing blue as his eyes. Beyond the prisoners skipped a larger legion of Horrors, pink and blue, jolly and surly respectively, and he was their master.
Xhârn Blackfury was Blackfury no longer, but Xhârn Fluxblood. The Stray of Khorne, The Wolfhound, the Blueblood...
Fluxblood felt something in the flesh of his bicep, something bulging from within his being and out of his skin. It was unpleasant, but by now he knew the sensation well, only glancing down to make sure. After all, with his lord, nothing could be said for certain. But it was: a blue eye pushing up through his flesh, one of several that had done so over the time of his service.
He wondered, as he turned the Screamers southward, if it was favor, however small, from Tzeentch.

Ooookay, first censored version obviously wasn't censored enough. Now there's nothing offensive visible at all.
Something that was requested some time ago - I totally forgot who asked for it, I have to admit! Took me way too long to get to it. Shame, shame and such.
Magnus the Red doing some special magic.
For Tumblr's delicate palate I had to ask the Modesty Screamer of Tzeentch for help.
The full Magnus-experience can be found here.

Magnus paused briefly as she looked upon Bastet, her little screamer. She realized exactly what it is, and exactly why it had appeared to her. Her heart sank and she shook her head. Unfortunately, Tzeentch had presented her with a dilemma that was particularly cruel.

actually while i'm still talking about Warhammer, Tzeentch's faction looks like it was designed by six-year-olds. the Screamers are cool, at least.

so “malicious supernatural creature that’s essentially a flying manta ray” isn’t exactly a common thing, but it’s shown up to me enough times (and specifically as a nighttime/nightmare entity) in pop culture that I really feel that this is based in some sort of folklore or mythos but try as I might I just can’t find the original source. (Being terrified of the ocean surely isn’t helping me search for this)
but I was trying to do as much research into this as I could stomach tonight and discovered that there is specifically a genus of rays often called “flying rays” (Mobula) because they literally do the jumping and gliding for a bit out of the water thing that flying fish get their name for?????
Anyways there are several instances of what can be described as flying rays or things that superficially resemble rays in various editions of D&D as well as other TTRPG games (such as certain versions of the Lurk Above) but I guess I wanted to know if this was like, something that preceded D&D. If it was older than the 1970s. Cloud Ray is another example from D&D, there’s the  Mantari from pathfinder, etc.
There’s the  Screamers of Tzeentch in Warhammer that are basically demonic flying stingrays but again, relatively recent.
There’s flying ray things in KOTOR (on Dantooine) but they’re not like, darkside adjascent or anything like would be expected if they were based on the same nightmare entity mythos.
It’s apparently a cryptid sighting from the early 2000s as well but idk.
Also, they don’t fly but in Polynesian mythology manta rays sometimes were known for abducting children. Why? idk.
the most popular example nowadays probably are the phantoms from minecraft which are also a night time entity that burns in sunlight.
I bring these guys up because I want to make something similar in my new work.
