The thing I love the most about Perturabo is that he doesn't really hold grudges, despite his temper, his grumpy demeanour and all that, he is waaay to forgiving.
He didnt keep a grudge for his foster brother Andos when Andos beat him in the art competition(despite in his rage destroying the artwork, and his relationship with his brother). And not only that, he openly admitted to other people that Andos was better than him, at art, and as a human and was surprised and disappointed that Andos wasn't named Tyrant after their father's death.
Perturabo forgave Fulgrim for lying to him and almost killing him and stealing his soul. He forgave him enough to fight beside him at Terra. He wasnt happy about it, but he didnt make a fuss.
He has been forgiving Abaddon time and time again and has helped the war effort of the long war
Perturabos reputation as unforgiving and cold is undeserved. Just let the guy mope for 15 minutes and he will bounce back.
I do wonder if he even truly hates Dorn or if he just wants to challenge himself enough to beat him and is too uncharismatic to express himself.

From Slaves to Darkness:
A figure lay on a dais before them. It was bloated, its flesh hanging in soft rolls from its torso. Layak could see tiny, podgy hands protruding from the folds of fat. Its lower body was serpentine. Pearlescent scales covered the coiled mass. Scales peeled back to show green eyes. A small head, its features sunken into flesh, sat atop the mass of its body, a long spill of white hair hanging from its scalp. Splashes of blood, and dark liquid that might have been wine, mottled its skin. It shifted as they approached, its bulk bursting cushions. The crowd nearest it was trembling. Some were eating their own flesh. Blood spattered the white stone beneath their feet.
[. . .]
The bloated creature on the dais hissed like a cat, and a rattle-tipped tail rose into the air from its coils. ‘It is well, my sweet,’ said a voice like honey. The purple-clad dancer somersaulted forwards, bowed low, then swept the mask from its face and snapped into a perfect high-salute, the arm holding the mask raised above its head, weight balanced on the points of its toes. ‘My brother simply cannot take a joke,’ said Fulgrim and giggled. ‘Not even a small one.’
[. . .]
Fulgrim reached the dais and flowed up its side. The bloated thing squirmed in greeting, uncoiling its bulk and twining it around Fulgrim as he embraced it. The thing purred up at the daemon primarch, baring its teeth. Fulgrim ran a hand over its hair.
‘There, N’kari, my delight… We will have bliss again once this is done with, but he is family, and that means I should listen to what he says, hmm? At least a little.’
N’kari… It was not its true name – that was a thing that would have broken reality to speak – but in the realm of the warp it was like a signature drawn in atrocity. Layak had glimpsed it and heard it at the edge of bloody visions, but never seen it before. Now it sat before him. N’kari… Eater of Delight, the Son of Ruin, the Daughter of Delight, one of the Six Courtesans of the Dark Prince.
Fulgrim settled next to the exalted daemon, their snake bodies intertwining with a sigh, then turned his gaze back on Lorgar. A hush fell over the piazza before flowing out into the city. Screams and songs strangled in throats. Gongs and flutes fell silent.
‘So…’ he said, and the smile had gone from his face. ‘What shall we talk about?’
When it initially came out I was surprised that no one was making a huge fuss about it. In light of recent lore changes, I am even more surprised.
Then again, considering the framing around N'kari as depicted here, I can understand why.
And also the framing around Fulgrim has not been the greatest either in the eyes of the community.
Umm, why I am only finding out now that Daemon Prince Fulgrim had a consort!? A male consort!?
Why have you hidden N'Kari from me!?

What do you think about these "tzeentch female custodes" things going around?
I dislike the contained implicit narrative that their presence is malicious. Don’t know if it’s deliberate or not, but if it is, it’s some brainlet shit. If not, well, that’s what it’s being used for by brainlets. Either way, not a fan of the end result

Addressed to the Lord Primarch of the XV Legion Astartes, Magnus the Red.
The Lord Primarch of the III Legion Astartes, Fulgrim the Illuminator, salutes you.
.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Master of Prospero, I hope that this message find you in good health and fortune.
I write to you because I wonder if you would honour me by answering a quandary. I have seen your set of armour first-hand, and you made quite a striking impression the first time I saw you in it. Yet, a single detail of the design has puzzled me over the years. If I may be so bold to ask: Why did you choose to include horns protruding out of your plate? More interesting still, where do they come from?
I look forward to receiving your correspondence and hearing news from you. I bid you farewell.
.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
It came during one of the quieter moments that Magnus had allowed himself after his period of adjusting to the Imperial way and introducing his Legion to the disciplines of Prospero. A note, ferried by a courier attached to the Spireguard, arrived for him from one of his brothers.
His brothers. Family beyond that of Tizca and outside of the Emperor. Of course he knew about them before he had met them, but it would take some getting used to. Though, naturally, Magnus would never admit that to anyone else.
Magnus read the transmission, a smile immediately breaking on his face. He chuckled warmly, then composed his response.
Addressed to the Lord Primarch of the III Legiones Astartes, Fulgrim the Illuminator.
The Lord Primarch of the XV Legiones Astartes, Magnus the Red, hails you.
---
Well met, Phoenician. I hope this response adequately answers your inquiry, and finds you in high spirits and an open mind.
My warplate has been the cause of much curiosity, though most questions have been less kind and well-worded as yours has. To give you an honest answer, it is inspired from older legends and folklore associated with the Prosperine people. It draws from a similar piece of mythology that inspired the creation of the Blade of Ahn-Nunurta. It can also serve as a wonderful impromptu bookshelf from time to time.
The horns themselves come from ivory sourced by local fauna on Prospero. There is more to the process, but I am currently not at liberty to discuss such secretive matters.
If you have any further questions, by all means, do not hesitate to ask. I am more than happy to answer.
--
The response is sent off, and Magnus returns to his studies and meditations in peace.

I regret to inform you that Discord's new Terms of Service includes an arbitration clause. You can find it here https://discord.com/terms/#16. This clause includes an opt-out, which I have transcribed here:
You can decline this agreement to arbitrate by emailing an opt-out notice to [email protected] within 30 days of April 15, 2024 or when you first register your Discord account, whichever is later; otherwise, you shall be bound to arbitrate disputes in accordance with the terms of these paragraphs. If you opt out of these arbitration provisions, Discord also will not be bound by them.
These clauses are underhanded ways that corporations seek to deprive you of your right to participate in class-action lawsuits and your right to a jury trial. (This does only apply to us users ,other people still spread the word though )

Excellent picks for Lorgar, though I'd also throw in Betrayer because I feel like his change of mentality and willing descent into madness is catalogued BEAUTIFULLY in that novel.
Unsurprising to anyone, I'll do Magnus:
A Thousand Sons: Obvious starting point is obvious. We see Magnus at his most arrogant and foolhardy and we see him crash and burn and take his Sons with him. His relationship with Ahriman is also fascinating to watch slowly tear thread by thread. There are also some McNeil-isms but I promise you the novel is enjoyable regardless.
Fury of Magnus: Of course there is some required reading before diving in, but this novella brings Magnus's character arc to a close in a very excellent way. The line of "Then what makes you think I would?" after being told to give up his Legion for another hits so hard.
Not technically a novel, but since you posted Revelation of the Word, I'm going to shoutout "Morningstar": Context required before this one as it's linked almost directly to Magnus's primarch novel, but I think this last glimpse at Ahriman and Magnus having a genuine conversation and Magnus speaking to why guilt is not a weakness among MANY other things makes it a wonderful listen. Though I don't really like the VA for Ahriman that much.
These probably aren't articulated as well as I would like them to be but I'm trying to keep things short and snappy.
Ok so 40k has more canon than anyone can possibly hope to consume all of. BUT we all wind up with our favorite bits, and the ones that say something super crucial about our blorbos, some bit of canon we cling to and that makes a huge difference to us in how we think about them. What one or two stories do that for you with your fave? I'll start:
Aurelian by Aaron Dembski-Bowden: THE crucial character study for Lorgar, more than his primarch novel or even First Heretic. Looks at his feelings in the wake of his conversion, his convictions, what he actually wants for the galaxy, and captures the key transition point right after Isstvan V where he's really internalized how brutal this conflict will have to be. ALSO one of his best 1v1 fights.
"Revelation of the Word" by David Annandale (possibly only audiobook): The canon moment when Lorgar, during the Shadow Crusade, finds out about the developing Imperial Cult—and it's not the meme take of "he got what he wanted" at all.
Now you: what are the key things you would put in someone's hands if you wanted them to understand why you love your fave?

The notes on this post have been hilarious. Especially the befuddlement at Perturabo's placement. Kudos to everyone agreeing with the placements and the questioning of motives.
I will explain nothing, only to say this was a joint effort with @tlatia-the-radiant, @kcnhub, and @akhenaten-imhotep.
But please continue to enjoy this goofy little tierlist. It's been fun watching it explode.

Dear artists,
lately, a lot of people ask me what style I’m drawing / what I call my style.
Those people are looking for prompts to feed into generators. A good friend was very helpful, linking me the perfect term to tell them.
Tell them your style is called “gråtrunka”.

@fulgrim-the-illuminator
Sure.
This entire tier-list is built around Pre-Heresy general combat prowess of the Primarchs. Fulgrim himself is a very good duelist, yes, but compared to his brothers his average combat effectiveness makes him slightly above the average of the rest of his brothers.
Though I am going to reconfigure this because my opinions have shifted a bit:
Tumblr media
I realized that I was giving Jaghatai too much merit for feats that he does during the Siege and this is supposed to be a strictly Pre-Heresy list because the Heresy brings about too many confounding variables. Same with the Lion.
Fulgrim still stands in Above Average Winrate because he's still competent in combat and does better than the average. He's one of the best duelists, yes, but dueling is not all that combat is.
Primarch Fighting Tierlist
Going entirely Pre-Heresy for this. Got the idea since the cursed-40k-thoughts human is getting asks/threads on it.
Tumblr media
Tiers are in order, so better at fighting -> worst at fighting on the tier.
Some notes;
This is my opinion and if you want to have kindly discussion we can do so.
Konrad & Sanguinius are kinda tied but I think Konrad just being a gremlin with precog maybe makes him slightly better. Maybe.
Part of me wants to put Magnus higher but I know that's just bias talking.
The only tier I don't know the placements of/placements can vary depending on the winds is the "That sure is a primarch" tier. It's basically the group that's like "yeah. they sure can do the fighting thing." but they aren't considered Top Tier or anything. So don't take that tier's placement too strict.

I have a couple.
When the only lore changes they actually make a fuss about have to do with inclusivity/diversity: 🚩🚩🚩
When they hold TTS as High Canon: 🚩🚩🚩
"Novels take too long": 🚩🚩🚩*
-* this is specifically referring to people who call themselves lore masters and yet refuse to read any of the novels. I understand people do not have the time in their day to sit down and read a 400-600 page book, and I also understand that audiobooks do not work for everyone. This is specifically a dig at lore chuds who refuse to even READ the lore they claim to know so much about.
Red flags 🚩 to recognize when dealing with the self-called "lore masters".
When they say "I know the lore more than everyone else ever": 🚩🚩🚩
When the only time they actually explain some lore is after a funny meme about it has gone viral: 🚩🚩
When they only quote basic/surface level/ Wikipedia knowledge (especially if this happens at the same time as the previous point): 🚩🚩🚩
When they consider themselves "content creators" but literally give people no content except for basic wiki knowledge to random people: 🚩🚩🚩
I'll be adding more later, but if you got any suggestions feel free to add them.

It's literally just pronouns.
That's it. It's just pronouns. And writers have been wanting to include she/herstodes in the lore for almost a decade now.
But, then again, coming from someone stylized after Lord Loren Soth who is famously Very Normal about women, I guess it checks out.
Stay pressed, tourist.

Coming from a blog styled after Lord Soth from either the Ravenloft or Dragonlance settings, which both have plenty of campaign material that encouraged players to make their own stories even back in the early days & editions, makes this post unfortunately hilariously out of touch. Your blog is fashioned after a Dungeons & Dragons villain. You know. The game that famously allows people, and ENCOURAGES them, to make their own stories and adventures within their settings and to change them how they please?
You dare call anyone else a locust who needs to "change lore" in order to feel comfortable in a setting while having a blog styled after a D&D villain? Especially when Dragonlance has been subject to retcon for YEARS upon years?
Hilarious. Wonderful. Can't find this anywhere else, folks.
