Lots of competing information of unknown veracity in regards the serial numbers affixed to the cover of the White Album. I've seen it said that serial numbers A0000001 - A0000004 were owned by the four band members, and also that numbers 1 - 100 were. Perhaps it is only the first 25 (and then numbers ~210,000 through 590,000, and also a million three hundred fifty thousand through two million 250 thou) had the initial A. It is a fact that that A0000005 sold for $34,000 in 2008; the guy who sold it to the guy who sold it to the guy who auctioned it off said he got it from Lennon. It's said that there are 12 copies numbered A0000001, and there are 12 more numbered 2000000. The one I had as a kid preceded the serial number with the abbreviation "No." and that may have been the format used for copies 2250000 - about three million. The highest S/N ever seen may have been something like three million one-hundred seventy thousand.

They stopped serial numbering the things in about 1970, and went from the embossed lettering for the album/band name to grey in 1975, but there are copies as pictured here with the grey lettering AND a serial number, not sure what's up with that.
