"Pour that guilt into those big wine glasses Drop your mirrors for scales and bus passes Well! They’ve done some mind expanding But let's just discuss the benefits of famine" https://youtu.be/PlpWWxpBbMs #travailparty #teamboozing #profitons #saveoursouls #snappedankles #drinkandglide https://www.instagram.com/p/Ci2R_I4KPzz/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

‘Save Our Souls..........Are you listening?’
Thread & Word Artist Led Walk, with Elspeth Penfold, Pump House Gallery, Battersea Park, Chelsea Fringe, London 2019.
Three interventions by artist Julia Riddiough
1. Opening: ‘Go With Your Creative Flow’ ‘Single Form’ (Memorial), Southern Side Boating Lake, Battersea Park, London
A celebration of creativity of two female artists who inspire unity and peace; Chilean artist Cecilia Vicuña, British artist Barbara Hepworth.
Also a remembrance and reflection that honours the wonders of the external waters of earth and the internal rivers of our own spiritual bodies.
Cecilia Vicuña: "The water wants to be heard. Everything is falling apart because of lack of connections. Weaving is the connection that is missing, the connection between people and themselves, people and nature. Life is a winding adventure. At times, it is rough, at others, calm and peaceful. Life, in a lot of ways, is like a river.”
Barbara Hepworth: “I have tried to perfect a symbol that would give us a motive and symbol of both continuity and solidarity for the future…the strokes of the hammer on the chisel should be in time with your heartbeat. You breathe easily. The whole of your body is involved, from the toes up, dictates the creation.”
A chakra/mantra/visualisation for creativity
The sacral chakra, Svadhishthana, is the second chakra of spirit located below the navel and the ‘dwelling place of the self’; creative generativity is the task of this chakra. (Chakra meaning wheel). Yoga and meditation are a means of keeping all of the body’s chakras open to the circulation of spiritual energy for health and emotional well-being.
Water is the element of this chakra; the ruler, the moon influencing the tides, affecting human emotions as they ebb and flow. The mantra for this chakra is VAM (pronounced ‘VANG’), its colour orange, enhances creative power.
Preparation: Relax and take a few deep breaths through the nose to centre yourself,to start calming the mind, bringing awareness to the body and body sensations. Ground your feet hip width apart, close your eyes or look at the third eye or middle distance.
Meditation and Visualisation: Bring your awareness to the area below the navel and imagine a ball of bright orange light, there. Keep breathing deeply and steadily through the nose. Visualise the ball of orange light growing, expanding with each inhale. Keep breathing. Maintain your awareness on the energy and keep working on expanding it, for as long as you can.
Closing Chant: Slowly open your eyes. Then chant in unison Vam, Vam, Vam (three times) and close with one OM.
Images Left: Cecilia Vicuña ‘CON CON’ film 1966, Aconcagua River/Pacific Ocean. The Aconcagua glacier, the source of the river, is the tallest mountain in the Western Hemisphere. Right: Barbara Hepworth ‘Single Form’ 1963, bronze, located UN headquarters Lake, New York. Series 1-4 ‘Single Form’ (Memorial) all located in UK, #3 Battersea Park, London.
2. Closing: ‘London Calling’ Saluting Chilean Artist Cecilia Vicuña. Peace Pagoda, Battersea Park, London.
Cecilia Vicuña: In her documentary poem and film Cecilia Vicuña returnsto ‘Con Con’ in 2015, the birthplace of her art in Chile, where the sea is dying and ancient tradition is being wiped out. Revisiting the site after her work therein 1966, she explores the connections between her art, ancient music and oral traditions while witnessing the ecological and cultural destruction of place.
The Clash: ‘London Calling’ 1979, by The Clash alludes to the BBC World Service "This is London calling ...", during WW2. Known as a protest song, the lyrics reflect concerns about world disasters, referencing the nuclear meltdown at Three Mile Island in the USA. "We felt that we were struggling, about to slip down a slope or something, grasping with our fingernails.” Joe Strummer, 1979. The line and lyric "London is drowning / And I live by the river" notes that London would drown and lives would be lost if the river Thames were to flood.
‘London Calling’ A protest poem, song and shout out!
London calling to the faraway towns
Now war is declared and battle come down
London calling to the underworld
Come out of the cupboard, you boys and girls
London calling, now don't look to us
Phony Beatlemania has bitten the dust
London calling, see we ain't got no swing
Except for the ring of that truncheon thing
The ice age is coming, the sun is zooming in
Meltdown expected, the wheat is growin' thin
Engines stop running, but I have no fear
'Cause London is drowning, and I, I live by the river
London calling to the imitation zone
Forget it, brother, you can go it alone
London calling to the zombies of death
Quit holding out and draw another breath
London calling and I don't want to shout
But when we were talking I saw you nodding out
London calling, see we ain't got no high
Except for that one with the yellowy eye
The ice age is coming, the sun is zooming in
Engines stop running, the wheat is growin' thin
A nuclear era, but I have no fear
'Cause London is drowning, and I, I live by the river
The ice age is coming, the sun is zooming in
Engines stop running, the wheat is growin' thin
A nuclear era, but I have no fear
'Cause London is drowning, and I, I live by the river
Now get this, London calling, yes, I was there, too
And you know what they said? Well, some of it was true!
London calling at the top of the dial
And after all this, won't you give me a smile?
