Nick: Bree, we’re sorry for what happened earlier.
Bree: How did you all get in here?
Sar: We’re not here to discuss your lack of home security, we’re here to apologize.

🚨 Crackpot Theory Alert!!! 🚨
So the night of the first Oath (Fealty, when Bree becomes Nick’s Page,) Lord Davis explains the whole “body politic” metaphor etc. He then says that before being accepted as a Page for the chapter, each Page-select needs to speak their family’s name:
Tumblr media
The wording is so interesting; it sounds like the aether of the Oath could know a person, make a connection based on the name they speak & the blood their body holds.
Which makes me wonder— what would have happened if Bree had spoken her mother’s name instead of her father’s? Maybe nothing, since Nick effectively stopped the aether from going into her body to seal the Oath, but maybe not.
We know from Sarah that the name folks go by in this universe is the name that aligns them to the Order, not common patriarchal surnaming conventions (Sar’s last name is Griffiths & if that’s her Venezuelan papi’s surname, I’ll eat my hat lol.)
Would the plot of the book have fallen apart if Bree had (unknowingly) outed herself as the Scion of Arthur by speaking her mother’s name?
She says that Nick’s quick thinking saved them during the Oath, but I don’t think that’s the only thing that could have blown her cover that night.

Whether people can live happily in the state also largely depends on whether they have access to air conditioning and can afford to use it, or whether they have to work outside under the hot Sun. This has left people asking: when it is too hot to work? In Houston, McDonalds workers went on strike this week after experiencing issues with their air conditioning. Meanwhile roofers, welders and those in professions that can't rely on these technologies have been struggling to keep their body temperatures within the normal range. And even when they aren't life-threatening, hotter temperatures can impair cognition, motor control and affect our ability to perform everyday tasks. This is problematic, because whatever happens to the climate in Texas, most people will still need to work. There are also wider implications for society. It's well-established that warmer weather can make us more aggressive, increasing rates of violent crime and the probability of social unrest.

I notice how every time I find myself involved in a fandom discussion it's about people interpreting what they want and claiming that it's canon. Pulling strings and rewriting everything so that their interpretation makes sense.
It's okay if you like your version better but I'm sorry that's not how it happens...
I wonder what makes people have that selective empathy towards certain characters and a complete lack of it towards others.

Extreme heat is currently the deadliest natural hazard in the US, with young children and adults over the age of 65 among the most vulnerable to heat-related illness and death. Analysis by The Texas Tribune found more than 275 people in Texas died from heat-related illness in 2022, which was a two-decade high, and this year's heatwave appears to be worse. Young children, the elderly, the sick, and the poor who cannot afford technology including air-conditioning to help keep them cool are particularly vulnerable to the effects of extreme heat. High air temperatures can cause heat stroke, dehydration and affect people's cardiovascular and nervous systems.
